Reading tweets from the menswear guy on Twitter is fun when he’s pointing out everything wrong with some jerk’s wardrobe, but it’s also a bit disheartening when he does an aside about how well-made suits are constructed with layers to create a particular silhouette that is not dependent upon the wearer’s body, and then also tailoring is getting rarer these days. He continually exhorts people to think about shape and silhouette and fabric, which is good advice for anyone putting on clothes, not just men and not just suit-wearers.

Once upon a time people created a fashionable silhouette with their clothing, and their corporeal forms remained mysterious to most. No doubt everyone harbored the same insecurities we do today (except for any related to social media) but by golly, their blood wasn’t full of microplastics and their clothing wasn’t just straight-up plastic. They actually had fabric to work with, instead of going to a department store and finding out that corners are being cut again and they have to layer seven shirts to keep warm.

Anyway, fashion isn’t real. The clothing people sell these days is poor quality polyester junk. I should make more internet pirate shirts and add them to my wardrobe. My silhouette will be Poofy. My vibe will be Romance Novel Heroine (In A Man’s Shirt For Some Reason, Also Where Is The Other Heroine). I will eventually be able to reliably sew straight lines and one day move on to different lines. Perhaps one day I’ll knit my own socks. Maybe I’ll get sheep and farm-to-table the wool (I am not going to do this)

i think Voidball would be flattered, considering most of their characterization is inspired by Megamind (and Nimona, to some extent) who would consider something like this a compliment

as a Rebecca enjoyer I would really like to see some options in book 4 digging into how little has changed if your detective is seeking or ambivalent to reconciliation, or the absence of apologies. As well as detectives who aren’t seeking/rejecting reconciliation but Rebecca cannot let go of anyways. Especially since we’ve now had one of the few times, according to the detective’s memory, Rebecca explicitly expressing regret for her actions.

#I kind of disagree w most people that the narrative is pushing you into forgiving her #kind of.#I think wayhaven’s writing style is intentionally pretty transparent to the reader on character motivations #even when they/the detective aren’t explicitly aware #there’s enough context clues to get an idea of what’s sitting underneath the surface #so I think the emphasis on Rebecca’s grief around her kid is more about telling the audience that her feelings on these matters ARE sincere #in nature. at least to how Rebecca interprets then #but what id enjoy seeing some more of in book 4 is the choice to pull open the conflicts happening here #Rebecca runs away AND engages w the detective irrespective of their wishes because she simultaneously cannot accept this relationship as #broken beyond repair AND is unable to acknowledge to herself the core issue to their relationship #the job was an obstacle yeah but the true conflict to their relationship is Rebecca’s avoidance w dealing w grief #and it results in what we see in either relationship state #I can’t let you go/I can’t believe it’s broken beyond repair <- can’t acknowledge what I chose to do #I can’t break down these walls/won’t spend time with you <- won’t acknowledge I ran away from you out of grief #and I think the next step narrative wise now that the tone to their relationship has gone through the big revalation arcs #is to start unpacking the WHYS #allow the detective to have those hard conversations and deal w whether Rebecca runs away from those or not #tunes talks wayhaven

#this is a joke #i told them that other people are intimidated the way mortals are intimidated to angels as a hyperbole #they knew it was a hyperbole but it did make for some funny jokes #they also said that its weird that a student is doing a theraphy thing #that usually when its a theraphy they get into this own world of theirs and the therapist feels like this sub human person #you pour your heart into #but not really a friend #or even a person #they used the world subhuman and above society type of people and i feel thats interesting #and i know that thats a feeling a lot of my other friends have to their therapist #that half the job is trying to get them to listen to you like youre a person #and theyre more of an obstacle they try and over come for support rather then a person they feel comforted and secure with #and i do acknowledge that good therapist probably treat their clients like people and not traumatized characters #but i can see how after like 4 people in a row you start seeing them as just sadness oozing blobs you need to help somehow #its an interesting thing about theraphy that i didnt think about till now tho so im glad they pointed out how this was weird for them #because i was weirded out when my teacher came to me and ripped out my worries and it was funny to me because he was right #and now i kinda see why #because a therapist isnt a person to the clients either sometimes #they help you with your problems that you sometimes forget theyre human and have issues too #interesting interesting #will keep this in mind when i get into my profession #definitely will avoid therapist

Making Space

What to say. Today's quiet thought is about making space for myself in my own life.

Life was all about wife #1 & kiddo, so when that ended, I was appropriately wounded beyond belief. Sad as fuck, so lost.

Life was all about wife #2, even though I was pushing for a 50%/50% relationship. I wanted us both to hustle, cook, clean & make decisions. She wanted someone to think they were making all the decisions when in reality, she was making all the decisions and basically forcing certain choices and remaining in victimhood.

Cut to now. Yes, life is about caring for mom's end of life. But I am also trying really hard to figure out my shit- finances, health, education: A future to build on.

I do have a girlfriend. But I try to respect space and she respects mine. We are not intertwined like my other 2 relationships were.

I need to keep making space for myself in my life. It cannot be about what someone else wants. It has to be about what I want.

It is incredibly hard to learn boundaries and make space for yourself when you have spent a whole life people pleasing. It started young, I was the emotional caretaker of my parents, alcoholics.

What I learned later in life is- alcohol fucks with your emotions, not only during the time your are actually drinking. It messes with the way you perceive things and how you react. Stepping away from alcohol was a great move.

I am appropriately cautious of getting caught up in cross addiction. No sense in stopping eating like an addict if you only cross to alcohol, gambling, or other vices. No matter what, you will always be with you. Part of the process is really dealing with what you feel & how you behave.

So now- my goal is to keep working on my healthy life in my healthy body. Keep setting boundaries & working toward the life *I* want, and everyone else can get fucked.

It is weird to think that someday soon I will be in a normalish sized body.

I may soon consider myself pretty.

I may soon feel confident in myself and have joy in finding cute outfits.

There is nothing wrong with that. I deserve to find joy every day. For me. It's my life.

I need to worry only about what makes me happy. Other people are responsible for their own happiness.

oh also it's been decided (by mice and i) that in a hypothetical gameplay setting, if cassidy or nicole dealt damage to the player, they would both do two hit points of damage each hit as compared to the other characters who only do one hit point of damage each hit. (save for empress because she destroys you in one direct hit. and i guess vanessa too? considering if you get caught by her you die instantly)

to balance this there would be special heart pons (which would be able to restore two health pons and MAYBE offer temporary invincibility. lore wise i want to say these were developed by my other ahit oc, rin, because she's a doctor and was looking for quick healing methods) these would be found in a level where you would fight them to be collected. environmental things in the level such as hazards would still do one hit point of damage though.

there is one buffer for cassidy that if you wear barbara, who is his black widow spider pet and acts like a "badge" on your main hat, he would only deal one hit point of damage to you if he managed to strike you.

i would like to think that cassidy and nicole both don't play around in the situation where they want someone dead and are significantly more ruthless than the elder bird directors.

11. Would you like to try any new fanfic genres or tropes this year?

Oh, yes!! I really really want to try horror! I'm not quite sure why, I think it's because I've never been able to partake in it in the past because of my anxiety disorder, but now that I'm doing better with that, I'm able to handle more than I used to. And I like trying to evoke emotional responses with the things I write, so unease/fear is just another one I don't think I've delved into! I don't know how successful I'll be at it, but it will be fun to try

17. Do you typically answer all comments/reviews individually? Do you plan to change the way you interact with your readers this year?

I absoLUTELY read and appreciate every single comment, ask, and tag that people put--sometimes even in the bookmark sections on Ao3, I'm there like 👁👁. Sometimes, when I'm having a bad brain day, I'll just go back and read through them and feel happy.

I got behind on responding a while ago and then did that thing where I felt overwhelmed and then really guilty that it's taken me this long to respond, so I just...didn't. Which is not very helpful.

I'm hoping to catch up on the past comments, but also get rid of that 'all-or-nothing' mentality which says since I haven't answered the ones in the past, that means I shouldn't reply to the more recent ones yet.

“The Other Side” (Touchstarved OC Rewrite)

So I made a parody of "The Other Side" from The Greatest Showman with my Touchstarved Hound OC, Alon. Here, she's trying to partner up with Mhin to — as thieves are wont to do — pull off a Senobium caper, but it takes a bit of back and forth with someone who's so used to being on their own.

Alon: Right here, right now, I put the offer out. I don't wanna chase you down but I know you see it. We form a team and we will find the key To all the answers we both know we’re seekin'. So trade that tragical for somethin' magical (Mhin: Tragical’s not a word.) And if it's crazy, live a little crazy! You can try the same old schtick and hope that something finally clicks. Or change the game and schtick with me…

Alon: Don't you wanna get away From this Lowtown part you gotta play? Then I got what you need, so come with me, we’ll pull a heist! It’ll take you to the other side! 'Cause you can do like you do or you can run with me. Stay in the dark or you finally take a leap. Oh, damn! Suddenly you're free to fly! We’ll get us to the other side!

Mhin: Okay, my friend, you want to count me in. Well, I hate to tell you but it just won't happen. So thanks, but no. I think I'm good to go. ‘Cause I quite like the dark you say I'm trapped in. Mhin: …Fine, you’ve intrigued me, but my services are costly. So how much actual coin would you be offering? Alon: Fair enough, you want insurance for the action. Seven gold, come on, let’s shake and make it happen! Mhin: I wasn't born this morning, eighteen would be just fine. Alon: Ack! Why not just ditch the heist and try to bribe your way inside? Mhin: Fifteen. Alon: I'd do eight! Mhin: Twelve. Alon: Maybe nine. Mhin: Ten.

this is going to sound arrogant but i have yet to hear about a fancy office job that doesn't make me go "oh wow i could do that" and yet when i read an ad for something like junior assistance assistant that pays minimum wage and makes access to indoor plumbing sound like a perk im like "god im so underqualified"
