y/n had just finished decorating the cake she baked for liz's birthday, coated in pink frosting and red hearts, her apron covered in cooking ingredients and cake batter. she put the cover on the dessert just as her younger brother welcomed himself into her home. "you know there's this thing called knocking, ever heard of it?" she mused, cleaning up the mess she made in the kitchen. riki shrugged his broad shoulders and took his shoes off. "i live here."

"this is why liz thinks you're homeless," she snorted, before nodding her head in the direction of her room to give them privacy. y/n wasn't very open with her internal struggles to the majority of their group. sunghoon, fuma and chaewon were the only one's aware of her stance on her family trauma and where her relationship lies with her parents. the last thing she wanted was for one of her housemates to overhear what riki was about to tell her and start to pity her.

"okay. let it on me." she sighed, throwing herself on her bed, grunting with her brother did the same thing on top of her. she pushed him off making him chuckle before his face dropped, his expression swarming with a mix of confusion, anger and what she would call bitterness. "what did dad want, ki?" she sat up, noticing his change in demeanor instantly. he looked at her with teary eyes, breaking his sister's heart. she hated it when he was sad, and she hated it even more when he cried. "oh babe." she frowned, wrapping her arm around his shoulder and guiding his head to hers. "mom's sick… like really sick." he mumbled under his breath, almost as if he said it out loud, it made everything that much more real. "oh…" she responded meekly, resting her head upon his.

she wasn't exactly sure how to feel. her relationship with her parents is damaged, damaged beyond repair. she's sworn since she was little she hated them, the same way they did with her. however, she would never wish ill will upon them. they were still her parents after all. her inner child still had a small sliver of hope somewhere inside her dim heart, that maybe one day they would acknowledge everything they did to her and her brother as children. how they traumatized the siblings, and how hard they had to work to heal and move on with their lives, alone. was she so wrong that in the back of her head, lingered a thought of 'karma'?

"is that all?" she bottled up her mix of emotions, shoving them way down in the pits of her heart as she recognized riki was taking this news much harder than she was. he always had a closer relationship with their mom than she did. her mom had a soft spot for the boy whereas she had nothing but fiery hatred for his sister, one to which neither of them could understand where it came from.

"she needs money for treatment. dad demanded we fork over 5 grand to cover it. i kept telling him you work at a coffee shop and i'm a full-time student, we don't have 5 grand and even if we did, we wouldn't give it to them. that must've struck a nerve because after that he just started spewing nonsense. that were both ungrateful brats, and that both of them wish they never even had us, how we're dead to them-" he choked up, as he relived his father's harsh words. y/n rubbed a hand up and down his back in a feeble attempt to comfort him. "after so long i just had to hang up on him, i couldn't listen anymore."

y/n nodded, "and you shouldn't have to, ki. nothing he said was true," she grabbed his face by his chin, making him look at her through watery lashes as he sniffed, "who cares how he feels about you, or even how mom feels. you're MY kid. i raised you. and i love you. that's all that matters. they're nobodies and they made this abundantly clear throughout many points in our childhood. we've accepted it and we've moved on. he wouldn't have even called you if it weren't for the fact that he needed money, otherwise, he would've just let mom die without even giving us a heads-up. he called you because he thinks you're easier to manipulate, he knew better than to call me. you are so much more than what they make you out to be, so fuck them." her brother sent her a tight-lipped smile as she dried his tears, kissing the top of his head. "i love you, y/nie." he sighed, wrapping his arms around her torso making her squeeze him warmly. "i love you too, kiddo. now go, i think i just heard the boys get here. i'll meet you out there, yeah?" with a nod, he squeezed her shoulder before making his way out of her room.

then and only then, did she allow herself to break down silently. this breakdown was different, however. it wasn't out of sadness. no that wasn't what she was feeling. this was anger. full-blown rage and resentment swarming in her chest. how dare he try to manipulate her brother and play on his emotions? how dare he ask anything of either of them after everything he's done? the abuse, the toxicity, everything he has done has impacted her in ways he would never be able to imagine. she often wonders if she stayed with yudai through everything because she believed that was the love she deserved based on the way her parents treated her growing up. she cried into her hands, profusely wiping her tears only for more to take their spot on her cheeks. a knock on her door sent her into panic as she quickly dried her face and straightened her posture, "come in" she tried to sound as normal as possible. that was until the last face she wanted to see at that moment revealed himself from behind the door.

"i was sent to come get you." he eyed her cautiously, seeing her red eyes. once again his ability to read her like a book haunted him. he could tell something happened, that something was bothering her deeply. part of him wanted to ask, he always hated when she cried when they were friends. he felt like he had to fix whatever was wrong. a splinter? put a band-aid on it and kiss it better. someone hurt her feelings? press them in the hallways and force them to apologize. a nightmare? hold her until she goes back to sleep. "you're crying." i don't like it. "do i ask?" how do i fix it? y/n shook her head with a roll of her eyes. "is it that obvious?" he shrugged his shoulders. "not really." it is to me.

he watched closely as the girl stood in front of her mirror and wiped her red eyes. he didn't like that her pain still hurt him so much. maybe he just wasn't ready to admit that a tiny part of him still cared about her, if you looked past all the bitterness and resentment. but that was only a small part of him. "well pull it together and come out. everyone's waiting on their drinks." he spoke coldly, quickly turning on his heels and shutting the door behind him. he paused for a second, taking a deep breath to collect himself. faintly, he could hear a sniffle from behind her door, and even fainter, he could feel a pang in his chest.

y/n took a deep breath, ignoring sunghoon's usual annoying behavior. after a few minutes, she entered the living room holding a few bags of drinks her friends asked for. "there she is!" jake cheered from his spot on the floor, making her send him a small smile as she tossed him the few tall boys he asked for. silently she handed out everyone's drinks before taking her seat on the couch. chaewon leaning her back on y/n's legs.

the night went on as planned, the group laughing and conversing. but all sunghoon could focus on was the fake smile y/n kept sending everyone. he REALLY wanted to not care, to find satisfaction in her misery. but he couldn't lie. he pitied the look on her face. so when the girl got up from her spot on the couch and made her way to the kitchen, he ignored the confused glances his friends sent him as he followed her. "what's going on?" he questioned in a monotone, leaning his arms on the counter. he watched her glide around the kitchen, clearly trying to busy her body. "nothing, and even if there was, you would be the last person i'd come to." she sent a glare in his direction as she pulled out the cake from the fridge, and started looking through their cabinets for candles. when she found the cabinet they were hiding in, she stretched on her tippy toes to reach them, only to find them too high up for her to grab. she sighed, running a hand through her hair in frustration, before she felt a presence behind her, with a musk of faint cologne and a touch of aftershave. this was the closest in proximity they had been in over 4 years, and she hated the fact that she didn't despise it like she imagined she would. he reached over her and grabbed the candles with ease, before grabbing her hand, placing the pack in her palm, and closing her fingers around it. he watched her expression, "i'm not as big of a dick as you conjured me up in your head to be. if something's bothering you, who better to tell than someone who's seen you at your worst?" he whispered. y/n's heart was beating so fast, she swore she could hear it in her ears. she turned her head to look at him over her shoulder, eyes tracing from his dark hair to his mesmerizing eyes, to the moles on his nose. "but either way, your mood is bringing mine down, so do something about it." he muttered, letting go of her hand and placing his lighter down on the counter for her to use before exiting out of the kitchen. the girl scoffed at his bipolar behavior, her brows furrowed in confusion. between him defending her from yudai, and this situation if she wasn't confused before- she most definitely fucking is now.

he's utterly mortified at his actions, to say the least. he has no idea what came over him, why he decided to follow her, why he got that close to her, why he showed any kind of sympathy. all that he knows is that he felt warmth spread in his chest at their proximity, and he would be damned if he ever let it happen again.

A/N: now me personally i think ME!hoon is very lovesick by laufey coded he just don’t realize it yet give him time yall he a lil behind🤗no but honestly i listened to this song on repeat the entire time i was writing. DO YALL FEEL THAT TENSION BTWN THEM 🤭🤭🤭 park sunghoon rizz agenda
