speaking of dr, there's something that really annoys me about how shallow the ship discourse around kr4lsei is. I'm not sure I'm 100% behind this for the same reasons i doubt toby will go full in with noelle's mom being abusive, ie "those are very delicate and complex topics to handle, does he have the time and space to deal with them in deltarune's story?" so take this with a grain of salt.

(warning for brief mention of incest, so I'm putting this under a readmore)

i think the discourse being framed as "thinking ralsei is presented as a romantic interest" vs "thinking ralsei is compared to kris' brother or like a family member" is incredibly stupid because those are... both true at the same time. yes, there's an unskippable "tunnel of love" scene, and it looks like ralsei could have somewhat of a crush on kris. but ralsei still 1) looks just like a dreemurr, 2) clearly plays, as a character, on our feelings and memories of asriel from playing undertale, as evident by their designs and their names being anagrams 3) i am 99% sure Noelle was going to say "that kinda looks like asriel" while looking at him eating cotton candy with Susie, and Susie herself suggests telling toriel he's "a long lost cousin". either way, if ralsei is meant to play on our feelings towards asriel, then as asriel's sibling, kris is likely gonna feel similarly.

are you uncomfortable? good! you should be. that's the point.

it's not random that the snowgrave route was framed and portrayed with the imagery of a wedding. first the freezering, then the thorn ring are explicitly compared to wedding rings. "we're just friends"/"we're something else". "YOU'VE BEEN MAKING [hyperlink blocked (...LoVE?)], HAVEN'T YOU?" noelle with whom kris had a strained relationship, whose feelings (platonic? romantic? we don't know) we brute force in what is the most chilling, manipulative, cruel iteration of chapter 2's story we could take... it's almost as if deltarune uses kris being forced into romantically coded situations they're deeply uncomfortable with as a way to showcase their lack of agency in the story.

and being pushed into romcom-like situations with a guy who looks like their brother works pretty darn well to follow that pattern, if you ask me.

now, if a forced romance with noelle represents their lack of agency in regards to the player, then... a forced romance with ralsei could represent their lack of agency towards Fate. The Plot/Story. unskippable cutscene, remember? not to mention ralsei's whole purposepilled shtick he clearly has a complex about.

this does raise a couple of questions about susie though, as the third option in the "who would you take to the fair with you" question, the one option kris seems to agree with, as well as being a character who is actively resisting the narrative.

because there's people who are very much FOR krusie, just as there are people against it, i doubt their getting or not getting together would work to represent kris gaining their agency back. and i believe i speak for everyone when i say that susie is going to play a huge part in that arc. either way, i'm curious to see how this develops.

idk! like i said, I'm not sure just how much toby is gonna go into this because it IS a very delicate subject. but it's an example of what i mean when i say "there's more to fandom than shipping" and "fixating so hard on Shipping Good Things" can be detrimental to analysis. I'm not cancelling anyone with this post, go on doing your thing whether it's kr4lsei or r4lsusie or krus1e. but if your first thought going into this was "I'm gonna ignore the part where the game compares ralsei to asriel because that would make my ship incest and that is Bad and uncomfortable" then... that's a very cheap way to interact with media? lol. sometimes being uncomfortable IS the point. god knows utdr makes you uncomfortable on purpose sometimes. ok rant over :P

I'd love if they put more homoerotic tension between them, I am just fascinated by their relationship XD from subordinate who trusted his captain and looked up to him and captain who called him his best man and saying that he's proud of him to archnemesis

Hello, thank you for the question and for taking the time for my theories!

I expect the re5 remake to have reimagined locations, normal lvl design. I like the levels in re5, but often they are not very convenient or aesthetic, I'm sure that in the remake it will be fixed and make a good map of the area, as they did in re4r, where they fixed all the shortcomings of the locations. And...

From my personal wishes for the remake of re5 I would emphasize Wesker's emotions. The thing is that in re5 he has a very large set of various funny emotions, which are very cool. But in re4r he doesn't look like an emotional person, his face doesn't look like something that can compete with the original. I'd really like to see Wesker's new face adapted to emote. I don't like the idea of a complete reimagining of the character where he loses all the silly and fun things that make him himself.

I'd also like to see the volcano battle completely changed, or removed altogether. I never liked it, even though that battle is a lot of fun. But the undressed Wesker is too much, that scene made me question more than laugh. For example, why did he take his clothes off? Did he do it during the fall? It's a silly moment.

I also wish they had conveyed the atmosphere of the grueling African heat, showed that the enemy is not the only thing that threatens the lives of the heroes. I also miss the puzzles in this part, maybe adding more puzzles would be cool. After all the remakes, the developers have gained enough experience to make a decent reimagining of this game. Taking all the good things that were in re5 and multiplying it, as well as getting rid of the controversial moments and faulty decisions.

I know the game has issues with racism, there have been a lot of scandals with that. I'm sure they'll get rid of that too by fixing the controversial stuff. For example, in re4r they took away Luis' lewd joke, deepening his character and making his personality much more interesting.

I appreciate the modes in re5, Mercenaries is my love. I would love to see the updated characters in this mode. Speaking of which, I'd like to see the ability to fight in close quarters added to the game like in re6, getting rid of the annoying qte. That way we'd get Chris, who does a lot of damage up close, and Wesker, who is able to quickly shorten his distance and move around the entire location in a few seconds. Oh yeah, I already want to play as them.

About the relationship… I really wish they paid attention to the relationship between Chrisker, because they have a whole 10 years of history, betrayals and thwarted plans behind them. In re5 their relationship doesn't get the attention it deserves, so I hope for a remake. We as players have to believe in Wesker's hatred if it's present. Or is it now a deep interest in Chris as the perfect person? Lots of options. I'm not sure if the developers will make their relationship more homoerotic, since RE has almost no focus on romantic relationships…

Thanks for reading all the way to the end! Honestly, no matter how the re5 remake comes out, I'll love it any way I can, as it's my all time favorite RE game. We'll definitely get something high level, as Capcom will never make the mistake of re3r again.

You already know about Kasai, so I'm not gonna bother explaining her personality.

I've got 2 ideas that I can't pick from, so you can do whichever one you like more. Either Malleus doesn't know Kasai is Aroace and gets rejected (so a bit of 🧡 with kasai giving comfort) Or He gets told by someone and has to try and push his feelings away and it only ends up hurting him and their friendship in the end.

(If you do decide to have him get rejected then Kasai wouldn't be mean about it because she's used to getting confessed to)

A/N: I love me some angst and have the perfect idea. Tysm Doodle-loo ♡♡♡ Also! Trying a new writing style as I normally write in past-tense, but consider your request a test run to see if I like present-tense <3 Also sorry it's a bit short–

Contains (TW): Heartbreak? (rip get Malleus an angst rain check)

Admittedly, Malleus is quite fond of Kasai. He values her friendship more so than most of the other people he knows. He doesn't quite know what this feeling is, only that it's different from the fatherly feeling he feels from Lilia, or the brotherly feeling from Silver.

He knows of love and has heard it described by many, but it felt different to him than how he'd heard it. He doesn't know how to describe it, even now that he's experiencing it.

He realizes now that the feeling is love. He's surprised to discover that he feels that kind of attraction toward someone, not platonic, but romantic. Pleasantly surprised, though, but with this pleasant feeling came one of nervousness, which is a new thing for him to feel in this way.

What if she does not feel the same toward me? He asks himself, then decides to do as he always does when he cannot figure something out: ask Lilia for advice.

He leaves his room and travels down the long, winding corridors of Diasomnia until he reaches Lilia's door. He knocks, and upon hearing a "Hm? Come in!", he stoops to avoid hitting his horns on the doorframe and enters.

Lilia looks surprised yet amused by Malleus' presence. "Oh, Mal Mal! What do you need?" He asks with a grin. Malleus sits on the desk chair, casting a quick, curious glance at the computer before turning to face Lilia.

"Lilia. I come to you in need of assistance." Malleus replies with a somber expression. Lilia gives a giggle. "Fufufufu! What do you need?"

Malleus hesitates for a moment. "I would like to confess my feelings for Kasai." He says, waiting for Lilia's teasing response and eventual agreement. However, he is confused by Lilia's almost comedic wince.

"Ooo, um... about that, Mal Mal." Lilia says with a pained expression on his face. "Kasai is not interested in being with anyone that way."

Malleus is caught off guard and confused. "What do you mean?"

"I mean she's aroace." Lilia says, causing Malleus to become even more confused. "Arrow... what?" He asks with a quizzical look to the smaller fae.

He's heartbroken. Lilia had spent a good thirty minutes explaining what aroace was to the fae prince and answering his questions. Malleus has a crestfallen look on his face as Lilia hovers by his side and gives him a pat on the shoulder.

"Don't worry, Malleus. You'll get over it eventually." Lilia says comfortingly. "You're still young. You'll find another love one day."

Perhaps not the most comforting of words, but they seemed to some effect, for the prince lifted his head, a slight pout still etched upon his lips.

Malleus teleports away from the corridor he was in, appearing in an empty one. He had seen Kasai meandering down it, chatting with someone else. His heart still hurts too much to be able to compose himself in front of her.

As Lilia had told him, he has hopes that soon his feelings will begin to fade. He misses his fellow dragon's company, but is unwilling to face her, despite knowing that she would not act any different because she does not know what he feels for her.

Until the day comes that his heart does not sink every time he sees her, he will keep himself at a distance.

heyy if someone already asked you this my bad, but wdyt would happen if mallerollo have their roles reversed? like rollo is a fae and malleus is a human (or maybe a lizard beastman if it exists), it’ll probably open up to a bunch of things in their relationship since a human/half human is dominating a fae

No one's asked me this before, no worries! This is interesting. I'm trying to explore this role reversal in the vampire AU (with vampire!Rollo and human!Malleus). I've never really given fae!Rollo and human/beastman!Malleus much though to be honest. This concept leads to a lot of questions and I feel like a story with this premise might push so far into AU that it wouldn't fundamentally be a story about Malleus and Rollo anymore. Or, at least, Rollo would be a completely different guy.

If Rollo was fae, right, would he just be a peasant living in Briar Valley? Would he take Malleus' role as the prince and with the same circumstances, like being raised by Lilia? I feel like the latter would change who he is at such a basic level that he wouldn't be Rollo anymore. Plus, if magic is essential to who he is as a fae, then his brother would be fine, right? I think Rollo would be an entirely different person as a fae: his brother would be alive, he would use magic for mundane things as that's just what fae do, and he might not end up in any magical school at all. What would be the purpose of him going, say, to NRC if he's just some rando fae? I doubt he'd be interested in humanity, the same way he doesn't have a particular interest in fae as a human. In canon, he doesn't dislike Malleus because he's fae, he dislikes that he is essentially a representative of magic. And what would reason would he have to leave whatever hometown he's in? Maybe instead of Fleur City, he loves his fae village.

If we try to maintain the backbone of Rollo's character and ensure fae Jehan dies, the question is how. It doesn't seem like it's easy and we only really hear of fae dying due to age or because someone (humans) killed them. If humans went out of their way to slay Jehan, Rollo would not be as quick to forgive as someone like Lilia or Malleus. It's not the same as magic killing someone due to their own inexperience--that's a tragedy. Magic is a tool and essentially his death is like (though not the exact same as) a kid playing with a weapon. Humans going out of their way to kill a little fae boy who is just some kid? That's... I think someone could feel like eradicating humans was justified (but I'm not saying it would be justified.) A fae Rollo dedicated to human genocide would be terrifying. Removing magic from the world is a peaceful option in comparison.

As for human Malleus, that's easier since we can have some version of his loneliness and isolation present in a human backstory. That part of his character is very human in that real people can have similar issues. He could still be a royal, his parents could still have died tragically/vanished (at war with another kingdom maybe or even due to some kind of disease). Lilia can still raise him and his impending death can still agonize Malleus. Maybe, due to being raised by a presumed old man like Lilia, Malleus has trouble connecting with peers his age and instead prefers the company of his elders.

Now, I don't mean that the idea doesn't hold hold any interest for me. While I don't think fae Rollo and human Malleus would necessarily work (though I'm sure others might have better ideas to make it happen), the role reversal thing is definitely something I'm curious about. That's why I went with Rollo being the vampire (and thus being centuries old, way stronger than humie Malleus, and having a lot more sexual and romantic experience). Vampire Rollo, who naturally had to be human once, can have had a similar experience with Jehan, which I think is the thing that makes Rollo who he is. Though I am altering the Jehan stuff a little bit... I don't want to give too much away about the vampire AU, but I think it'll be interesting to see the difference in their interactions when Rollo is the one who can impose his will onto Malleus via power, vampire hypnosis etc, while Malleus has to rely on more human things like persistence.

Anyway. I hope this doesn't come off as, like, harsh, since that's not my intention at all. I just have a lot of feelings as it turns out. I would love for it to be able to work, I simply don't know how it would.

Oh, boy! Your post was so good for this that I'm feeling a bit worried mine will be a letdown. -rolls up sleeves- I'll see what I can do! This answer is also for @tendollarshoes who messaged me asking about the Saachi route. :D Thank you both! I'm going to write this as though this is an actual game... SAACHI

Pros:

-Romantic -Genuine and honest -Compassionate and caring -Will battle the gods themselves to protect you if she loves you -Is very easily impressed and touched by romantic gestures -Will reciprocate with cute, romantic gestures herself -When she is uncertain about something, she is very willing to listen to and take advice -It will be obvious when you have chosen the wrong answer. -RP adventure side-quests: On certain dates you could be presented with scenarios where there is a conflict that requires heroic intervention. These events will allow you to solve them in different, unique ways depending on what your high stats are. Cons: -Suffers from some pretty significant bouts of insecurity and indecision seemingly out of nowhere -Throws herself into danger over and over; not the option you want if you don't want to worry about the safety of your partner -Her compassion is not boundless; it can waver into frustrated, snarky sarcasm when she feels pushed too far. -Stubborn. When she's uncertain she listens and takes advice. When she's made up her mind, there's absolutely no chance of changing it. -The more wrong answers you choose on dates with her, the more unimpressed and surly she becomes on future dates.

Path: Regular difficulty Saachi isn't terribly difficult to romance assuming you are the heroic, active, big-hearted type who respects that she is the same. Taking actions in the game that keep up your activity level and your heroism meter will impress her. She develops crushes fairly easily, but it will take work to move her from just fantasizing about dating you to actually giving it a chance. Saachi values creativity, compassion, and heroism above all else, so it is important to keep the Creativity, Heroism, and Empathy meters above average. At a certain point in the game, Saachi will ask you to tell her a story. Choose the most dynamic, outlandish, fun responses during the story-telling segment and end with a heroic, happy ending. Wowing her with the Storytelling game will give you a major boost on her path. Choosing the short sentences with little to no description, having the 'hero' in the story act out of character, or ending the story poorly could undermine prior progress you made. She responds well to compliments and thoughtful gestures. Insulting her, lying to her, or showing a general lack of empathy for others will potentially make her path entertaining if you want to see her get angry, but will ultimately remove her as an option for end-game romance. MALIKA

Pros:

-Confident -Up for almost anything -Especially if it's illegal (your mileage on if this is a pro or a con may vary...) -Witty -Dates with Malika are unique; she will take you to places in the game that you would not be able to access by pursuing other paths (because you will be trespassing) -Disinterest in traditionalism means she does not care that she is in a dating sim; you can kiss her before you reach the ending -Prankster/trickster -No need to worry too much about getting your stats just right. Malika only watches the Luck stat. Cons: -Obsessed with fate/Gambling mini-game: When Malika appears in the game it will be at a random point after you have increased your Luck stat. She will suggest you gamble with her. If you say no she will not appear for the rest of the game, effectively disappearing as an option. If you say yes but lose, there is a 50/50 chance that she will not appear for the rest of the game. Winning the gamble is the only guaranteed way to start her path. -Unreliable -Lies for fun -Difficult to read -Will steal from your character. If your character has key items or presents in their inventory, there is a random chance that she will steal it and replace it with something different. Sometimes this could be a significantly better item that increases stats. Unfortunately, there is a chance it could also be a completely useless item.

Path: Deceptively difficult and frustrating Going on dates with Malika is extremely easy. Simply prove that you are the type who will take risks and you will not have trouble spending time with this chaotic thief. The problem is getting her to stay... While other characters are likely to give hints that your responses or actions displeased them, Malika is a con-artist and may seem entirely unbothered through the duration of the date, but after the date will disappear from the game forever. She actively makes the game more difficult and frustrating for the player as it may be difficult to tell when she is being honest about things she likes or when she is just fucking with you. Characters should not -ever- sympathize with the wealthy or attempt to convince her to not harass or steal from the wealthy. Taking any option that tells her "You should" or "You shouldn't" will remove her as an end-game option, as will taking the option to confess your feelings to her before end-game.

ADELAIDE

Pros:

-Ishgardian intrigue sub-plot -Slow burn path that simmers with intensity as the path progresses - A subtle, dry humor -A healthy disdain for nobility despite being part of the nobility herself -Ability to laugh at herself -Fun dueling mini-game -You will receive hand-written letters from Adelaide -She gives thoughtful, expensive gifts. This is a pro because these gifts include major stat boosts that would otherwise be difficult to come by in game. -The Azmerien Garden date location is one of the most beautiful locations in the game and only accessible in her path. Cons: -Despite it simmering with intensity as the path progresses, it is still VERY slow burn -Despite openly mocking nobility, she will be hesitant to break from tradition. It will take time for her to even hold your ungloved hand. -She pays very close attention to stats: they must all be well above average for her to appear at end-game -The Ishgardian intrigue sub-plot will make the game more actively more difficult; Adelaide's corrupt family will attempt to get in your way Path: Openly difficult Adelaide has very particular tastes and takes time to warm up to the player. She will be turned off by active, aggressive pursuing of her too early in the path. Any confessions early on will reset progress with her though, unlike Malika, it will not bar you from future dates with her. All stats need to be above average to win Adelaide, but Athleticism needs to be the highest. Winning fencing duels with Adelaide will increase your Athleticism score and will give you the same bonus as giving her a gift would. The duels become increasingly more difficult each time you select this option, but the bonus also increases to match. Adelaide's family will attempt to interfere. Random events in the game will include attempts at draining your money and spreading rumors that could negatively affect your stats if you do not deal with them quickly or could raise the prices at stores where you want to buy gifts.

6. Do they have any secrets that can be revealed? What are the prerequisites for this secret coming to light?

not exactly secrets. emrys is intense and a little cagey by nature. you can start prodding at her ideas almost right off the bat, but depending on how you go about it you find out more about her past and how she's come to these conclusions or she'll shutter up and double down on what she thinks she knows best on.

9. Does your Tav have any escalating conflicts with one of the other companions, like Lae’zel and Shadowheart’s knife-fight?

oh I imagine she can have an escalating conflict with about. um. half the cast, depending on how it pans out -- not anything like an off the bat rivalry though. her conflicts are the bone-deep, betrayal sort, and how she's influenced by the player impacts her reactions too. but baseline: ascended astarion? escalated conflict. sharran shadowheart? escalating conflict. minthara? escalating conflict AND it's homosexual. the player too low on approval? she'll probably try and fight them at least once (defended in fair combat and chosen to spare her, she'd be taken aback and have to grapple with all of that--potential for a rivalryromance in there).

11. What do they say if the PC tries to force them to go up on stage with Dribbles the Clown?

(my friend Emrys here is a bundle of laughs) "If y' think it's so fuckin' funny, you go on up there, yeah?" -> (up you go, emrys.) "Tyr preserve me..."

17. If romanced, how do they react to the Dark Urge trying to kill them in Act 2?

she would take the dark urge warnings seriously, right off the bat. after the dark urge is tied up and such, from there, there would be an option with the saving throw to ask her to strike you down right then and there, and she would level her knife at the dark urge for a moment, hesitating, before her face crumbles and she pulls away, reaffirming that when morning comes, there will be time for that yet, in a soft sort of sad tone. reserved, resilient, visibly pained but stalwart, swearing on her life to see them through etc etc. -- there's a lot of fun dichotomies in there.

Is your Tav a romanceable character? Are there any specific requirements to romancing them?

2. Does your Tav need to be flirted with to start the romance, or will they approach the PC themselves if approval is high enough?

Ideally, you wouldn't really need to flirt either -- for a while her scenes and romance progression would be the kind where the platonic&romantic blur together fairly seamlessly. she's a slowburn, and so long as the other is getting closer (or chafing against her in a particular way that makes her doubt & question her beliefs, which is another way of getting close). she wouldn't approach about a romance, but there would eventually be a point where a sort of. insight check Oh You Can Tell She Has Feelings moment would happen, OR she would have a Character Moment in late act 2 that would trigger her finally confessing her long-held feelings. either way, lots of buildup, lots of almost-touches and glimpses of warmth. would NOT really jive with casual fucking around although I could potentially see her being a "we're all hot-blooded after the goblin camp and I'm not immune" depending, and by depending she actually WOULD NOT agree if her approval was too high, too much feeling involved, but -- then its back to platonic glancing either way.

11. What are Tav’s plans for the future? Do they propose to the PC, or is marriage not something they’re interested in?

not necessarily interested in marriage at present, but she would probably have a. I swear to be by your side if you'll have me. type moment, one that is very vow-like. ideally, she'd want to do something where she's still useful, on another adventure or staying to rebuild baldur's gate, but would ultimately be content so long as she's by their side etc etc. BIG fucking sap underneath the 185k word slowburn longing glances and stoicism.

Riddle: I feel like wonderland/queendom of roses has very specific and weird proposal traditions that he would follow to a tea, including riding in on horseback and presenting his s/o with a whole bush of red-painted roses, and I feel like he'd be the type to want a lot of kids

Cater: Pulls proposal ideas from Pinterest and sets up like three cameras to film the whole thing to post on Magicam, I'm assuming he is not fond of kids at all and would rather babysit bc then he can give them back instead of taking care of them 24/7

Trey: Does the thing where he hides the ring in a baked good he made, definitely would like to have 2 or 3 kids, he would make a really good dad I think

Leona: Really lazy with it, probably just brings it up in casual conversation like 'hey let's get married', canonically hates kids so no children for him

Jack: Goes just a little over the top, just a bit. But definitely proposes in a private secluded area and spares no expense for his s/o. He's a wolf so ofc I think he'd want pups

Ruggie: Can't afford a fancy ring and doesn't do something spectacular for a proposal, but it's meaningful enough, and his s/o knows he really means it. Probably would make an amazing dad but is slightly afraid of the costs of a child

Azul: His proposal is basically him listing off the pros and cons of being married to him, the tweels help him pull together the setting (Monstro Lounge) and he 100% serenades his s/o. Thinks kids are a waste of money.

Jade: Very simple and elegant proposal, probably in the mountains. Not really a kids person I don't think.

Floyd: Depending on his mood he would either go all out on a proposal or just pull a basic one, or maybe he plans to have a big ceremony and his mood changes at the last minute and he just says it like he's asking them on another date. Probably is like 'omg wait if it's like math then we would have triplets next, right? :o'

Kalim: Pulls together the biggest and most extravagant dowry ever with all kinds of treasures and tries to do the Whole New World kinda thing to propose. Wants MANY kids

Jamil: Something simple suffices, probably a night in with all of his s/o's favourites cooked before he pops the question. Absolutely does not want kids

Vil: I don't actually see him as the type to want to get married at all, not wanting to tie himself down like that and potentially cause drama for him in the industry, which means no kids either

Epel: A whole Texas-style proposal in the apple orchard and everything, he got matching cowboy hats for the very occasion. Country boy probably wants a lot of kids either biologically or adopted he doesn't really care

Rook: Shoots an arrow at his beloved with a ring around it and a note that reads 'Veux-Tu M'épouser'. Claims that his children with his s/o will be 'nothing short of absolutely beautiful!'

Idia: Proposes and gets married to his s/o via Minecraft and deems it legally binding. I really don't think he'd be able to handle kids especially little babies but again a late adopted is an option

Malleus: Pulls some cool magic shit in order to flood his s/o's bedroom with roses, greets them in absolutely gorgeous attire, and takes them out onto the balcony to ask them to marry him. Understands that as a Prince he needs an heir but also doesn't want to deal with a child

Silver: When I tell you I know absolutely nothing about this man that means I have absolutely no idea how he would propose

Sebek: Idk how he would do it but he would do it loudly and excitedly. He wants like one kid max and would guard that child with his life

Lilia: Probably has already been married a couple times and doesn't want to bother again, and he's already got kids ^-^

Don't come at me but I think many people think Mike's main problem is internalized homophobia rather than his obliviousness so that's why they are so worried or think there is not enough time to address (made-up) stuff about Mike's character in the next season so there's not enough time to come to byler point. 😬 Ofc if you think Mike has been hiding his feelings for 2-3 seasons straight and lied in his monologue and is deeply crippled with IH and closeted to the point he dug himself under the ground... then yeah it makes sense that you'd also think Byler wouldn't make sense as endgame point.

But if you see the narrative as it is presented then it is easier to come to Byler conclusion. Bc the end of the day, it's a very common romance and love triangle situation and the fact is that the narrative mostly points out that Mike is oblivious and he has to realize his feelings for Will and that's how his character will progress. The show already broke down Milvn by making Mike insecure in the Melvin relationship, which was to address their incompatibility. They made Will be the one who encouraged Mike's monologue instead of it being only a Mlvn thing, which was to insert Will as a more plausible romantic option and Byler as a better outcome compared to Mlvn. What is needed now is El breaking up with Mike, and the Mike realizing his real feelings for Will. It's literally the most followed romance trope to ever exist.

That's probably why but it just feels weird being asked questions like that like all of the theories are already 100% confirmed and I am just not making sense only because I read the show in a different way... like it makes it feel like I'm getting disingenuous questions in a way? because I'm talking about very simple concepts and tropes that we even had in the show itself previously so I don't understand why it's so difficult to contemplate that or regard it as a possibility

imo the narrative has been pretty linear for now and they put all the elements in the show for Mike to have his realization next season with the painting lie and El being weird with him and El and Nancy being paralleled because they both lose their best friend when they are experiencing something important in their life with the boy they like and then break up after because they don't love those boys and want to focus on their best friend having justice etc etc

It's so easy to write byler endgame at this point and it's super linear and just makes sense, even with Mike and El dating now, the writers decided to shoot at their relationship pretty heavily in s4 and they are not salvageable, they wrote themselves in a corner with Will's story unless Mike x Will is endgame

if Mike and El end up being endgame it will still be sad for Will's point of view and him getting a random boyfriend would not be satisfying

also Mike and El end up just regressing as people instead of growing and the writers would have written their story so badly that most of the viewers started thinking they should not be together 💀

It's just absurd to me that they would do this to 3 of the main characters

"Yeah the nurse isn't here right now," A student sitting on a bench near the nurse's table says. "In fact, they haven't been back for a while now. Said Leighton called for them or sum'. Anyways, what's up with you?"

Species: Human

Angel is a possible love interest that can be encountered either in the school infirmary or the orphanage. If you do not enter the infirmary at least twice within the first three weeks, you'll automatically trigger the second meeting, where you bump into her either in the morning before school, or any time after school. Their dialogue remains mostly the same regardless of when you bump into them: he apologizes before saying they recognize you from somewhere, then she snaps their fingers before recollecting that you have an english class together. They also say you should hang out sometime, just for fun. If you encounter them after twelve am, she'll add that you both should probably get to bed soon.

The infirmary encounter is more interesting, though. It'll happen any random time you step into the infirmary except for the first time. When you walk in, your character notes the nurse isn't present, but there is a student sitting on a bench near their desk. This encounter gives more content, because you get to interact with Angel more. They tell you the nurse has gone to have a talk with Leighton, and ask if he can help you. Then your character notices that she has a bruised lip and a bleeding nose. You have options to either:

Ask for painkillers: -Pain

Say you want to use a bed: -Fatigue

Ask for their name

Choosing either of the first two options has Angel either gesturing towards where the pills are kept or based off of how high your fatigue is: tell you that you do look a bit tired/tell you that you don't look that tired, but they don't give a shit.

If you ask for their name, she introduces himself as 'The great Angel, always at your service. Unless you're a jackass. You can pay me for spending time with my glorious self anytime, but I don't mind hanging out for free, either.' Then they recognize you to be from the orphanage, and invite you to hang out with her sometime.

After taking the pills/taking a nap, you're forced to ask for his name. So you can't exactly go without knowing the mf lmao

After the first encounter you have the option to look for Angel's room in the orphanage, which permanently unlocks that location for you(unlike with Mickey. ..I wanna pay them a visit so bad tf). You can read comics together, go out to the arcade/cafe together(which I won't elaborate much about bc it would become...too long) and vent to her about your day/recent events.

When going into the flower bed it gives you an option to mess with Angel's plants for some godforsaken reason. --Love

Like with Sydney and Robin(and Kylar.. and Whitney. ..) there's almost always an option to flirt with him, but unlike the others, it raises Angel's Amusement, instead. The more this special trait is raised, the easier it is to raise Angel's love and lust for you. Lust is raised only with provocative poses and expressions.

When Angel's love and amusement is high, she approaches you during lunch at school and asks you out mid meal. If you accept, they ask if they can give you a kiss and give you a little peck on the lips. If you reject them, they look disappointed, but shake it off and say they don't really mind you not liking her romantically, but he hopes you don't feel too weirded out to remain friends, because he enjoys your friendship a lot.

After a rejection things pretty much go back to how they were. After accepting, they're more affectionate than usual, almost always wrapping an arm around your waist or holding your hand. There is always an option to tell them to give you some space, and their love is never lowered because of it.

Brynn the Model:

"Oh... so Niki asked you to model for him/her too? ...Nice. I'm Brynn. You're really cute..."

Species: Human

Personality: Quiet, Aloof

Occupation: Student, Model

Role: People of interest

Relationship: Determinant

Interests: Scrapbooking, Listening to music

Brynn is an NPC that can only be encountered at the Photography Studio, and only if you ran into Niki by random in town after gaining a significant amount of fame.

After you're greeted by Niki, Brynn walks by your character and is described as looking 'angelic', because of his snow white hair and ice blue eyes. He catches your eye and asks if you were asked to model for Niki too, after which he remarks you look pretty cute.

You can not encounter Brynn at the orphanage or the school, only at the Photography Studio, and even that is only once a week. His route would be annoying ngl. The second time you walk in for a photoshoot, Niki asks if you'd be open to doing one along with Brynn, saying they'll pay you more for it, an extra £50.

Accepting will raise both Brynn's Curiosity and his lust. There is no love trait for him. Rejecting will have no affect.

During the photoshoot, Niki will ask if you'd be willing to do few topless shots, then some in your underwear and then some nude. No matter what you choose Brynn is always down for all of them. You could go as far as nude shots, after which you get options to get frisky with Brynn🗿.

Finish shoot

Stroke Brynn's thigh: +Brynn's Lust

Choosing the latter will have Brynn flushing ever so slightly and wow would you look at that. Encounter.🗿 And Niki keeps taking shots throughout, dw they pay extra extra.

After the first lewd photo shoot, Brynn always asks you if you'd want to do another one every time you walk into the studio. If you reject, he doesn't say anything and only watches Niki take photos of you for the entire three hours and then sorta. Corners you and asks you if he's done anything wrong. But they don't really do much, only just like. stare at you with big eyes. If you explain you don't wanna fuck he'll leave you be. Either that or you can say you just didn't want to have another lewd photo shoot. The latter starts another encounter, in which Brynn starts by asking if you'd be down for fuckin' without the camera pointed at y'all's naked asses. You can ask him to stop and that'll instantly end the encounter or you can go with it.

If you accept then it's basically the first lewd photoshoot all over again, you stroke his inner thigh, he flushes and leans into you and sex.

It's important to note, during these encounters with Brynn he's always submissive.

It's also important to note that your relationship is more fuck-buddy than anything, you cannot increase Brynn's love for you.

Caelan the Bartender:

"Ha...you're not supposed to be here, are you? Hm. Neither am I. I suppose we can keep eachother's secrets?" The bartender chuckles.

Personality: Calm, Respectful

Occupation: Student, Bartender

Role: People of interest

Relationship: Determinant

Interests: Reading

You can encounter Caelan after buying a fake ID from Briar and getting a job at the Strip Club. After meeting Darryl, you make eye contact with Caelan, who looks surprised for a second before making their way over to you with a knowing smile on their face.

Once near you, they remark that they've seen you around the orphanage, and then talking about how you're not supposed to be here. But neither are they, they joke.

Caelan's interactions are somewhat similar to Alex's. You go through work together, take a break to chat maybe. If you get into an encounter and choose to scream, Caelan gets there to help before security does. Their presence scares off the creep, but Caelan calls the security on their ass. They then proceed to keep a close eye on you throughout the rest of your shift.

During your break, you can choose to either-

Gossip

Ask Caelan about themself: +Caelan's respect

Choosing to gossip has Caelan listening to you talk about stuff you've heard the people at both school and the club say, mostly funny sex related stories. Your most common topic will be the students at the library. They are are freaky. Asking Caelan about themself will not reveal much, they simply state that they're an orphan themself and that they'd been working as a bartender at the club for four months now. It's not much, but you could note that they don't ever invite you to hangout in their room. This is only because they don't spend much time in there anyways, don't worry.

Caelan doesn't have a love or lust trait, instead they have the Caelan's Respect trait. Their respect is raised just by being a decent person and fairly nice, while ignoring Darryl being groped by a random person at the club or fucking someone while you're bartending(they don't give a shit if you're getting freaky while you're doing anything else, they just want you to do your part bro they're tired)

The lower their respect is, the lesser they say when you ask them about themself.

Outside of the strip club, you can sometimes see them taking a walk in the park or bump into them in the school hallways. These interactions are always short however, just a quick wave or hello.

They're the only one out of the three that has a christmas event. If you go to work at the club during christmas, they put a large sized santa hat on you before chuckling and handing you some cash. They admit that they don't know you well enough to know what you'd appreciate as a gift so they decided to let you choose for yourself instead of a shitty mug or something.

Hello, it's me again, I don't know what happened, but you probably missed my question, so I decided to write again, I hope I don't look intrusive. In the lead question, I was wondering if Freckle would then be a love interest in the devil moon in the future, or would he not show up at all? And yet, I'm interested in the reaction of Lakadaisy's characters to the fact that the MC is disabled/wears a brace, who will sympathize, help, and who will not react to this in any way?

I'll answer these one at a time, and a cut because I'm rambly.

Yes I recall that ask, I thought I answered it privately? Though I sent another private ask to someone and it didn't go through, so who knows. Calvin isn't going to be present or a love interest because it's 1925, so he's currently in high school. The same goes for Ivy.

I'd rather write out the "reaction" in the story than say anything definitively here, but I'm also not sure what to say to this? Marius and Jack are familiar with a disabled MC and will assist them if asked. It's the same with other characters; they'll help if the MC specifically asks for it. There will be dialogue where the disability is discussed (not just the prosthetic & brace, but also burns, facial scarring, etc) but I've yet to even draft that. I don't want to say "[X] happen for sure" because I'm not there yet, if that makes sense. Including the brace, prosthetic, chronic pain, partial deafness etc is based off my own experiences and the experiences of disabled people in my life, so the conversations around it are going to reflect what I've experienced personally and what they tell me, plus the lens of the 1920's over that. Additionally, these are all options for a character, so they aren't going to get their own massive scenes and long conversations. Occupation, Deal and Romantic/Platonic interest get the lion's share of scene variation.

That said, I've already added some extra flavor text and variations for the prosthetic/brace, as well as partial deafness and visible scars in the 1.1 Update.

I don't think a tortoiseshell pattern would bother him much haha. It's a very common coat pattern, he would see it all the time. Besides, any MC can potentially be asymmetrical - missing an eye or ear, having burn scars, heterochromia, being bi colored (bc the exact pattern isn't specified unless you pick tuxedo), being calico, etc.

As someone who never quite got to finish Persona 4, what exactly is it about Naoto's handling that is so questionable/problematic? I fully believe there's been a lot of mishandling, I've partially took a break from the game because of how Kanji was treated, but the fandom had me believe it was just a fairly standard Mulan-esque crossdressing storyline. I don't mind spoilers

Ok, here we go....[Full spoilers to follow obviously]

Kanji and Naoto are, in a vacuum, both incredibly well written and non-problematic characters. However, Persona 4 is unfortunately very much not a story that exists in a vacuum. The director of the game, Hashino, is a subhuman piece of shit incel who is openly homophobic and transphobic. My favorite go to is how in an interview when asked why in Persona 3 you were forced into romantic relationships with every female character which no option for platonic relationships, he responded it was because "I believe a non-romantic relationship between a man and a woman can never be genuine". He also stole credit from others to get his position and actually contributed almost nothing to the success of the series. I'm not a fan of the site it's on, but this thread does a good job of summarizing all the things he's done.

So how does this tie back into Persona 4? Well, it cast a very undermining shadow over the aforementioned well written characters, who deal with themes of sexuality and gender identity respectively but have a very pro-status quo resolution to both their stories that becomes much less nuanced with the knowledge that a raging bigot was in charge. The localization handled Kanji and Naoto much better than the japanese version did, and IMO effectively salvaged two phobic premises (the ideas of homosexuality being "confusion" and transgenderism being "a lie") by handling the characters with much more tact in their portrayal. I'd go so far as to argue Kanji is written to be pansexual instead, and as a bisexual I don't see the version of the game I played through as even remotely problematic, especially with how he's never written as if he "got over" his sexuality but rather simply stops worrying about gender entirely, which Naoto reinforces heavily due to his attraction to them not even wavering throughout the story's progression (and showing similar attraction to Yu at times). To be clear though my talk of localization is not me throwing shade at the japanese team, rather I'm saying likely because of the localization process giving Hashino less oversight, the localization team were able to portray it much better. The existence of things in both versions like Yosuke's romance route (that reportedly was going to be included until at the last second Hashino mandated it be cut entirely, retroactively turning Yosuke from a repressed gay into an outright homophobe due to never getting resolution that explains his wariness) shows that there was a clearly positive intent even in the japanese development side.

Naoto is the real can of worms though, not Kanji. Naoto's character arc revolves around the extremely patriarchal system of Japan, particularly Japanese law enforcement. They want to be a detective, but due to both their age and gender fear that they will never be accepted in such a role. The conclusion they reached was that if they can't change their age, they can still at least change their gender, and so began presenting as male. The crux of their arc revolves around their acceptance of who they are and not feeling a need to lie about who they are to please other people, presenting as female later on (though their actual appearance remains the exact same outside of a select few instances).

This is where it gets messy. In both Naoto's instance and real life, there ARE people who feel pressured into presenting as something besides what they are comfortable with for reasons such as insecurity, societal standards, or simple lack of understanding on such things. In a vacuum Persona 4 could be argued as simply telling a story of one such case very well. In context, however, this is disturbingly in line with Hashino's statements on transgenderism and him claiming it's equivalent to mental illness. No matter how well done it is in context, to the point I genuinely believe the people actually writing it did so with completely earnest and well-meaning intentions, those malicious intentions from the one in charge still undermine it completely and utterly.

This is where it gets even messier. As I said, the point of Naoto's character arc is self-acceptance and the understanding they do not need to label themselves to live up to the standards of others looking down on them. Understandably, many choose to claim Naoto is a trans character and treat them as such. On the other hand, one can also rightfully see it as flying in the face of the lesson of Naoto's character of how you should not conform to labels and the assumptions of others, especially since Naoto's story very clearly conveys that Naoto has no actual issue with their gender, but due to bullying over their stereotypically masculine interests and fears of the patriarchal society they live in, feel they have no choice but to live as a man. These are very real issues that many can empathize with, and it's understandable why those who particularly empathize with Naoto might find certain circles explicitly treating them as FTM something that rubs them the wrong way, especially when some of said circles are extremely vocal about this.

And so the end result is any actual discourse is basically FUBAR. While there are unquestionably transphobes who would use Naoto as a "gotcha", many have a genuine reason for not wanting to treat the character as trans. Similarly, there are many people who rightfully see the treatment of Naoto as female being a form of trans-denial and among those people are those who push back particularly vehemently. Hey so I found your blog from a fic you wrote on Ao3 and I am (still) addicted to KOTOR 2. I just started playing SWTOR because I saw you post about it, and I was wondering if you have any tips on which companions are the best or romance options for NPCs?

First off, thank you for reading my fic and I hope you enjoyed it. <3

Idk if I can truly say who the best companions are bc I'm massively biased toward a few of them, but I can share my faves, both in terms of romance and just the general character personality and how well they mesh with my play style for different classes.

Hands down favorite as a character and comp for how I play the tech classes is Aric Jorgan(first comp for the Trooper). I like to play tech classes as damage/short range and set my companion to heal, he has an excellent AI for balancing when to heal vs when to contribute to the damage. Personality wise, he's a grump and a bit abrasive, so he might not be for everyone but I love him. He's also my second favorite romance, but we'll get to that.

Corso Riggs(first Smuggler comp), Vette(first Sith Warrior comp), Elara Dorne(second Trooper comp), and Talos Drellik(fourth Sith Inquisitor comp) are also all good matches for the way I like to play. My favorite Force user class is Shadow, which was originally a Jedi Consular option, but now that anyone can use it that's what all my Jedi/Sith wind up xD. It has a discipline that's tank-y(Kinetic Combat) so I can continue my center of the action with a healer companion ways, lol. Personality and just liking them as a character wise, you can add Nadia Grell(Consular comp), Mako(Hunter comp) and Vector Hyllus(Agent comp) to the list.

Theron Shan(expacs, male or female romanceable)

I do need to clarify I haven't done all the romances yet, lol. Still haven't check out either of the m!Agents options, or Mako as a romance beyond act 1(she didn't mesh with that Hunter romantically), or the dark side version of Jaesa.

Some of my favorite NPC romances are Jonas Balkar(Trooper story on Nar Shaddaa, f!Trooper can flirt), Numen Brock(Smuggler story on Balmorra, f!Smugg can flirt), Beryl Thorne(Smuggler story on Taris, m!Smugg can flirt), Sanju Pyne(Agent story on Balmorra, f!Agent can flirt), Watcher Two(Agent story throughout the game, m!Agent can flirt), and Ranna Tao-Ven(Jedi Knight story on Tython, m!Knight can flirt)

OH. Important to note, any companion can be great if you get their influence level up. You can do that through dialogue choice and giving them gifts. I think you get companion gifts as part of the reward for completing weekly conquest, but you can also buy them of the trade network(hubs on the Fleet, Coruscant/Dromund Kaas, and Nar Shaddaa). And if you go into your Legacy(Y key) there's a page for character perks, you can buy a buff that increases how much influence you gain from dialogue/gifts so it goes faster, which is especially handy for comps you don't get til late-game. So if there's one you really like, just shower them with presents, lol. There's a bunch of other QoL things on that Legacy page, too.

Hi, friend!! Thank you so much for the ask <3 I'm sure you know by now that I'm going to ramble but buckle in for the ride anyway, haha.

1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)

Hands-down 'Other people's secrets.' It's the first creative thing I've written in over a decade. I dare say it will probably remain my magnum opus, unless of course I rewrite it into something original one day, haha. I get that it's really long though, so the answer might change if I manage to finish any of the shorter ideas I've got!

5. What do you wish someone would ask you about [Other people’s secrets]? Answer it now!

My readers asked the most amazing questions about OPS, so I can't think of one I haven't answered yet, but here's one a more recent reader did ask that really got me thinking: Did I ever consider keeping Henry and Walter's relationship completely platonic, and why did I decide against it?

The answer is yes, I did. I firmly believe boys should be allowed to be affectionate without people thinking they're 'gay for each other.' That's why I took so long to establish their platonic bond first, and they would have stayed that way if I decided I wasn't brave enough to write about asexuality for the first time after all. (My Henry was ace whether I spelled it out or not, and I didn't want people to read sexual attraction into it.)

I had two sets of reasons for writing a romance. Firstly, it was more compelling from a storytelling perspective: I could sort of contrast them with Wilmon (two very different but equally valid and loving dynamics), and it also gave me a chance to explore Henry's character further in the post-canon part instead of him just being there for Wille and Simon (he was the protagonist, after all).

Secondly, I wanted and needed to write the kind of comforting aspec story I could have used more of, once upon a time. That was why I wrote Henry as a romantic ace instead of aroace (although he’s very different from me in many other respects), and giving him a love interest was the most satisfying way of letting him discover that he was capable of romantic attraction. My version of him needed to feel extremely safe and accepted to allow himself to grow such feelings, so his best friend was really the only plausible option.

50. Answer any question of your choice, or talk about anything you want to talk about!

Oh wow, you really went for the tough ones! Hmm - here's a random one: how do I write good kissing scenes, because those used to be really difficult once upon a time.

So basically what I do is, I avoid the verb 'kiss' or the phrase 'they kissed' if at all possible. I just write everything else, i.e. what is actually happening (the sensory and emotional side). I never have an issue with the word in others' work, but for some reason, my own scenes just work so much better and feel more 'present' without it. Maybe it's a style thing, I don't know. I also have no idea if my readers have ever noticed this but now you know!
