When I first heard this song, I couldn't help but think it suits the Byakuya x Tomoyo couple extremely well, so I had to make a video featuring them. ^^

we're all made of glitter and nightmares (and baby, we thrive)
Tsubasa Chronicle Month 2023
- Day 10: KuroFai
~
"Hah," Kurogane laughs, incredulous amusement filling his chest (alongside a sense of curiosity that he pushes down and away because there’s just no way). "As if those skinny twigs you call arms could actually lift me up, mage. They’d snap in two if you even so much as tried."
Fai lifts an eyebrow at that. Takes a pointed sip from his saké cup. (Tomoyo muffles her giggles against her sleeve on his other side, though Kurogane ignores her.)
"Is that so?" he says, too flat to be an actual question. Something in the back of Kurogane’s mind starts screeching loudly, something like a warning alarm, but he ignores that, too.
Yes, the mage is strong, in more ways than Kurogane can count.
But Kurogane has a full head in height over him, and more muscle weighing him down than Fai's nimble, wiry figure, so there’s no way he’s able to comfortably lift him without use of his vampiric strength (and that’s gone as far as they know) (unless the mage is keeping things from him again, though Kurogane doubts it. They're past that now). "Absolutely."
Fai looks at him, eyebrow still raised. "Alright," he says, and the smile on his face takes on a sharp edge. (The alarm in the back of Kurogane's head grows louder, more urgent). "If I can princess-carry you out of this room, Kurorin has to do as I say without complaint for an entire week. Sounds fair?"
Kurogane snorts, still confident in his assessment.
From the side, Tomoyo pipes up with a delicate, if pointed clearing of her throat. "And if Fai-san cannot? A bet should go both ways, afterall."
Fai shrugs, smile going a touch softer as his eyes turn to her. "Then I do what Kurorin says without complaint for a week."
Tomoyo nods. "Fair enough."
"Since that's settled," Kurogane says with a roll of his eyes. Trust the damn mage and the damn princess to discuss this like some sort of treaty, instead of the random, pointless bet of the month it is.
Before he can say anything more, Fai moves.
And Kurogane's world tilts sharply.
Because they haven't even stood up.
No, Fai just. Shifted his weight, reached over and dead-lifted Kurogane like he weighs absolutely nothing. Kurogane's hands reach for the lapels of Fai's kimono before Kurogane can even process what's happening, in an unconscious bid not to fall over.
But Fai's arms are steady around him, Fai's legs are steady under them as he stands bearing Kurogane's full weight and taking a step forward, and then another. And then continues to walk straight for the door. (He did day he would carry Kurogane out of the room. He seems like he'll carry him all the way across Shirasagi Castle to their rooms, fuck, okay.)
Tomoyo muffles a giggled "oh, my,", and Kurogane knows that the entire royal court will know this by morning. Fuck.
(And if his body reacts to the display of strength on the mage's part, and if his mind starts supplying all sorts of… scenarios in which to make use of this strength…
Well, Kurogane's not going to volunteer that information.)

Prompt: Tsubasa, bamboo : loyalty, strength, steadfastness
A/N: I had written this for a CCS/Tsubasa zine that sadly got cancelled. ☹ I’ve always loved Tomoyo’s/Kurogane’s relationship, the utter steadfastness of Kurogane’s loyalty and her confidence in him.
Sake cup in hand, Tomoyo stepped out onto her bamboo-lined balcony and took a deep breath of the cool, sweet air. It was a pleasant night for a moon-viewing and she leaned against her balcony rail to watch the party below. Bright, colourful lanterns shone in defiance to the night’s gloom, lighting up the palace’s courtyard. Below, she could make out a drunk Syaoran energetically fighting the ancient sakura tree while Fai and Mokona cheered him on.
It was cute. They’d no doubt forgotten just what they were here for. Her attendants and sister were seated a short distance away, their half of the party a more dignified one. The only ones missing were Sakura and Kurogane: a princess who could no longer afford the cost of travel and the latter which was standing behind her right now.
“I thought you would prefer drinking with them,” she said, glancing over her shoulder.
Dressed in a black and red kimono, Kurogane regaled her with surprise, his eyes widening slightly before he shook his head. “I thought you didn’t have the sight anymore,” he asked as he stepped out of the shadows.
“I do not need that or even your senses to know where you are.” Tomoyo smirked, moving slightly so he could stand next to her. A bamboo leaf brushed her shoulder. “You are very predictable.”
“Am I?” he questioned, taking a sip from his own cup. There was nothing graceful about the way he drank and even in this he couldn’t hide his brash nature.
“Very much so.” Tomoyo chuckled, cupping her cheek with hand. “You’re like a little puppy.”
“Puppy?” he repeated, aghast.
“A cute, little puppy,” she confirmed, mischievously. She glanced at Fai and Syaoran once more. Classical music drifted through the air. “And with that group, it is very helpful, I imagine.”
“It’s very annoying,” he grumbled, giving Fai and Mokona a flat glare. Despite his words, there was no bite in his tone, and she wondered if he could see how much he had softened over the years. Even his profile wasn’t as hard as it used to be, his sternness of a gentler type now.
“Your inflexibility can be,” she agreed innocently, ignoring how his glare now swung to her. “You could just enjoy the party with them, you know.”
“I did.” Kurogane smiled faintly, the limit of his honesty. “And now I’m here. To renew my vow.”
Tomoyo regarded him for a moment. “We do not have to do this every time, you know.”
“We do,” he disagreed, finishing the last of his sake before resting the cup on the railing. “Until my mission is over, until I can stay here, I want to.”
“What is the point if you aren’t here?” Tomoyo winced. That sounded harsher than she intended. Rephrasing, she added, “It is not that I doubt your loyalty. I can see it in the lengths you go to find that other Sakura and Syaoran.”
He didn’t say anything, just regarded her with dark eyes as he waited for her to finish. And that much hadn’t changed over the years either, how he knew when she had more to say.
Tomoyo glanced up at the moon, so much brighter than the light reflected in her sake. After taking another sip, she quietly set aside her own cup. “This vow is not meant to chain you, not if you no longer need it. You may return here as much as you like, but…”
When I sent you away, I understood that you might never return.
Tomoyo couldn’t voice those last words. Cowardly, she looked away. The tall stalks of bamboo on her right glowed faintly in the moonlight and she took solace in their rigidity. There was a price to pay for every wish, and hers was his company.
It was an insignificant thing in comparison to his life.
“I remember your laughter when this started,” Kurogane said. She glanced at him, but he wasn’t looking at her anymore. Instead, his gaze was locked on his companions.
“Your expression was funny,” she murmured.
He didn’t frown or even growl at that; he’d grown up in ways she hadn’t expected. “Yours will be funnier when I finally return home.”
Home? She stared at him, surprised.
“Yeah, just like that.” He grinned, all teeth, as he kneeled before her. “Like I said, I want to do this. After I find those two, I’m done with travelling.”
“What if that day never comes?” she asked, trying not to hope.
“It will come.” There was no doubt in his voice. Then again, he’d never been a dreamer, had he? Kurogane always took action with the uttermost confidence.
Tomoyo studied him for a moment. She couldn’t see the future anymore, couldn’t know if he was right, if it would take decades before he was right, but it was hard not to believe him. He’d stopped the universe from unravelling, travelled through time, and fought fate itself, after all. What was finding two people compared to that?
Giving in, she raised her hand. “Very well then, Yoo.”
Only the cold moon and steadfast bamboo witnessed her blessing.
Hopefully, the next time they did this would also be the last.

Some time prior to Kurogane’s awakening. Tomoyo must have asked Fai to wait outside at some point, right?
Posed in XPS, using the models I put together. (After almost 20 years I can finally make something for Tsubasa!)

12052022 - Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle
just how far we'd travel (both you and I know)
Tsubasa Chronicle Month - Day 12 - Homecoming
~
The swirls of bright, colourful magic fade, and for the first time in a long time, Kurogane breathes in the familiar air of his home world.
At last, he’s home. At last, he will stay home.
It feels like a dream.
"Do you think they'll be okay?" Fai asks from his side, biting his lip as his brave mask slips at last. "Syaoran-kun and Sakura-chan, I mean."
Kurogane looks up at the star studded sky, quiet for a second. Will the kids be alright? he wonders. After so long, after so much time spent apart, after everything that's happened. Will they be alright? Will Kurogane and Fai? "Yeah," he says at last, and looks Fai in his blue, blue eyes. "They'll be just fine."
"And us?" Because the mage still needs reassurance, apparently, even when Kurogane has done his best to get it through his thick skull that this - the end of their journeys, the start of their life together - is something he wants as much as Fai himself does. Kurogane will fight anyone who’ll try to keep them from their well-earned happiness.
Including Fai himself, if he has to.
“Don’t be an idiot,” he says, flicking Fai’s forehead lightly. Fai still looks unconvinced, though, and it’s… Honestly, Kurogane doesn’t know where the sudden insecurity is coming from. “Mage-”
“I’m sorry, Kuro-sama,” Fai cuts him off, turning away and looking up at the sky, like Kurogane himself had done just minutes before. “I don’t know what’s gotten into me. I just…” He takes a breath so deep, Kurogane thinks his lungs must hurt with it. “I don’t know. I had a weird dream last night.”
“What was it about?” Because it had to be bad, for Fai to lose his previous enthusiasm so quickly.
“If it was something about being unwelcome in Kurogane’s home, or at our court, Master Fai, you needn't worry,” comes Tomoyo’s voice, sudden and startling in the silence of the courtyard the two of them had landed in. Fai and Kurogane turn towards her as one, eyes wide.
“Princess,” they both greet, Kurogane with a nod, Fai with a slight bow.
Tomoyo smiles at them, and it’s the warm thing Kurogane remembers from the night she saved him from himself. “Welcome home,” she says, and hearing her say it, somehow, is what finally makes it sink in. For Fai, too, he thinks.
It’s real.
They’re home.
