I don’t think allo people understand: you get everyone else. Almost every single fictional character is allo. Every character that exists is allo until proven aro/ace/aroace. So on that rare occasion when we actually get representation, and when it’s genuinely good representation, please just let us have it. Many allo people are respectful, and I thank them for that, but it’s impossible to ignore the massive problem in fandom culture of downplaying the importance of, or even downright erasing, an aro/ace/aroace characters’ identities. Aro characters are shipped all the time, which is fine if you understand the nuances of the identity and see that it is a complex thing to be aromantic, but I see a lot of people who don’t, and think that they can say ‘oh but aro people can date’ as an excuse to ship a character. This happens with ace characters too, they are sexualised in fandom all the time (I’m not talking about any characters specifically, but I’ll tag a few who come to mind). Again, this is understandable if you understand, but if you are sexualising an asexual character just because you find them hot or just for the sake of it, surely you understand why we are upset. This is not me trying to pick a fight, I’m just an aroace who is frustrated.
You guys get everyone else. Just let us have the few who we see ourselves in.

Both Snake and his snakes came from over the hills and far away
Right then, in regards to chapter 208, I'll be now focusing on my theory of Snake being originally a snake and originating in a facility owned by some sort of Dr Moreau type figure.
The flashback starts with Snake saying that since he could "remember" he was in a cage. Now I feel I should mention that from fan's translations it often came up as "when I woke up, I was in a cage." It would be great if someone who understands Japanese could be so kind as to clarify if there can be any double meaning to the word used in the original. Its meaning could change things a little bit. Regardless, he then says he didn't know why he was there nor did he know anything about the outside world.
Tumblr media
So, from this I gather that he was born in a cage. In other words, captive bred. Forgive the reptile keeper term. It sounds dehumanizing, because it is. Unless we're talking about a snake. If he was born a snake, in a facility, it makes sense that all he remembers was being in a cage since he remembers.
Regarding the human mother and python father: I don't deem it necessary to waist time on taking what that repulsive charlatan said into consideration, as he's lying through his teeth to sell Snake's image as a product. If Snake says "It's all a lie." then it is so.
Now, another question I have in my mind about the translation is when he follows with "I have no father." because the translation I got, admittedly not through proper means of a human translator, but through google, is that he said "It's all a lie. There is no father." "I have no father." can mean his father died, but "There is no father." can mean that there's no such thing as a father there, meaning it's not specifically that rock python in the cage the charlatan lied about. Regardless, what these two phrases can hypothetically both mean, literally, is that there is no father, end of story.
Tumblr media
As a small side note, @abybweisse mentioned that the snake in the image above looked like it could be Wilde. Indeed, this snake is a royal python and Wilde is portrayed as a (albeit impossibly huge) royal in the anime and the in the musicals. If we follow the concept of there being no father, he could have been created in a test tube, properly referred to as in vitro fertilization: taking a mature egg and fertilizing it with a sperm cell in a lab. It is possible to artificially inseminate a female snake too, thus having no father (that one would know of).
But allow me to stretch my ideas a little and ramble on about snakes for a bit. There's a certain phenomenon that very rarely occurs with snakes called parthenogenesis, or virgin birth for those of you more poetically inclined. This means the animal reproduced asexually, without copulating with another of the opposite sex. I won't go too much into the offspring, for the sake of time. Suffice to say that they're usually not as strong or as well developed as the ones produced by two animals of different sexes. There is one species of snake that is an obligatory parthenogenesis breeder though, the Brahminy Blind Snake. But only females are born. They're all girls, always! No boys allowed in their club.
Then there is a more common possibility. This is the retention of sperm during copulation with a male by the female, for later use. So, you go out and acquire a beautiful rainbow boa that had been a breeding female in the past and has retired, you come home with her, set her up nicely, give her a few kisses (don't do this, you'll get salmonella)… and a few months later you open her vivarium and are greeted not only by your baby, but by her, still slimy, 15 brand new wriggling babies! No father (in sight)! Sometimes a female could even have babies from an already deceased father by having stored his sperm for he was oh so worthy. The lovely joys of Nature…
All silliness aside, if Snake was a snake to begin with, there's these three possibilities to explain the lack of a father. The mother could even have been captured from the wild while pregnant for instance. Whichever the case, it's important to note that snakes rarely stay around to care for their young. A few do stick around to protect them but that's the extent of maternal care they provide.
Then he adds "These snakes and I were all brought here from somewhere far away" He ends it with "We have no family." In chapter 202, page 9, Dan says "Snake and us are family", which leads me to assume he's talking about humans this time around, especially since he then says that that's what he thought until he met the circus troupe.
This made me feel hopeful in a way and sad in another. Hopeful because he definitely came from somewhere along with all the snakes as I'd suspected. Sad because I feel as though that's the only information we'll ever get, since now we're already at the circus part of the backstory. I reckon there's no chance of bringing up a flashback about a past older than the freak show. Wherever they came from, it wasn't the wild. He has a wide array of different species with him, and a green anaconda and a black mamba are from completely different types of ecosystems and different continents. These snakes weren't found in the wild all together with him, it's impossible. They all had to have come from a collection, a facility, somewhere that could provide the necessary husbandry to at least keep them alive. So I believe he wasn't in the wild with all the snakes and then they got captured and brought to England. I think they must have either been sold or something happened to the facility they were being held in (as it did with Finnian). The people that got in brought what they found back to England and sold them to a freak show. But then there's the issue of the orphanage… I don't know what to think about that. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. I've run into a wall here because I can't fathom someone placing a snake hybrid with loads of venomous snakes into an orphanage. Not only that but Snake said he'd been inside cages since he remembers and knows nothing of the outside world. Did someone tell him something about an orphanage while at the Noah's Arc? Does it concern one of the troupe members and not him directly?
Since this post is getting too long, I'll briefly mention the other points of interest about Snake: He had no name at all until the circus and Joker named him. The snakes had no names either and Jumbo named them.
So I should scratch what I've written about the names of the snakes in my master post as Jumbo made the kind contribution of dispelling what I'd been contemplating as an explanation for their names. By the way, Wuthering Heights is an absolute favourite of mine as well. Just remembering certain passages sets my heart aflutter. Seems I have found something in common with Jumbo. Never thought he'd read those sorts of gothic works… he struck me as having a more Zen philosophy mind and Wuthering Heights is quite intense.
As always, thank you for reading and forgive my rambling style of writing…

I just wanna ramble a bit as an introject if that's alright.
I'm a factive of a youtuber/streamer who is also a programmer, and I REALLY want to learn programming to.... be more like him, I guess? I feel like it would feel validating.
Collectively, we've wanted to become a Roblox dev for a while, even having a few game ideas under our belt for when we inevitably pull the plug and sit down to teach ourselves how to code.
The youtuber I'm an introject of is currently learning Godot, a completely different game engine, but it's still serving as a large inspiration.
The only reason I'm so hesitant is because of The Amnesia™️. It's so hard sometimes to even remember basic things like how to cook or draw that I worry about being able to retain anything at all. If it weren't for this stupid piece of shit disorder, I'd be UNSTOPPABLE.
-☣️(🗞️)
For what we did, even with Python or anything mocking python coding, write it down.
Do we use it anymore? No, gave us too much of a headache even looking at the notes and Seb (Sebastian to anyone wondering or wanting to reference him in asks, nicknames are close only) was… very annoyed with seeing it which furthered our desire to get rid of it entirely.
So if you make notes on what means what or what goes where, or have a code for something functional, save it. Always save it.
Having back ups and notes is a good thing, especially to help with amnesia and as a reference point.
And if something goes wrong and the code gets something put in on accident, you have a backup file of it as a just in case.
Programming can be super fun but also super challenging. If it gives you too much of a headache, take a break. It is okay to take breaks even if you are in the middle of something.
(Also, if something is too hard for you to learn, try finding a different programming language to better help you. If Python is too hard, try something different. There is a few different things for beginners as well if I remember correctly.)

So, I was in a Greymoore-family mood today, and my thoughts flew to Joseph. I'd like to think that he is quite opposite of his father when he was at Ominis' age. Due to Ominis' upbringing, it was natural for him to be on guard, cautious, and very wary of his surroundings. We get the fact that he can be very careful and easily anxious of the situations he is in. But with Joseph, I'd like to think he takes after Isabel. He is very carefree, and doesn't let his blindness stop him from being adventurous, jolly, trusting, very playful, and laidback.
I've also been meaning to ask you of how Sebastian is in your headcanoned universe. If he's close with the Greymoore children, I can see Joseph being very close with Sebastian, and tagging along little journeys to the cities or town centers with him. (Speaking of Seb, is he married? 👀 Any family of his own?)
I don't know if this is your headcanon for them. But I'd like to think that since Joseph was raised in a very secure, loving, and calm household, the boy wouldn't have any problem "free falling" into the guidance of his parents and guardians, and enjoy exploring the world regardless of his blindness. 🤍
Thank you for the ask, witchy!! I love getting to ramble about the Greymoores lol
Yes, as a child Joseph is much more daring and adventurous than Ominis was at his age! He is still sometimes a bit hesitant, though; he’s self conscious of his blindness sometimes, even as an adult. But he also has the advantage of Ominis teaching him how to navigate with his wand and read at the same age as his siblings (whereas I HC Ominis and Noctua worked together to develop the strategies/spells Ominis uses and he didn’t learn how to read until just a few years before Hogwarts) As he gets older, he definitely grows into his intense Slytherin personality though, and tends to enjoy the finer things in life. He is the one who eventually takes over the family business, and it takes a ton of work and chutzpah to do that. I haven’t delved too much into his own family when he’s an adult, but I like to think he married a cute Hufflepuff girl. He fell in love easily and is good about being consistent in his affection since he was raised by Isabel and Ominis.
If I’m understanding your last paragraph correctly, yeah—he definitely embraces his disability and abilities much quicker than Ominis did. He’s also much more outgoing. Joseph doesn’t have as much of an issue with parseltongue as Ominis does; he thinks it’s really cool and just knows how to be judicious with who is around when he speaks it. He and Ominis definitely talk to each other in parseltongue just to drive Isabel crazy lmaoo. He is also very close with the family’s python since they can speak to each other too. I have a little paragraph here from when he was a toddler about his personality. This is from a thing that I use as a warmup, idk if it’s anything worth posting in full since it’s just rambling lol
Tumblr media
I HC that Sebastian is an academic writer in my canon :) I don’t have him married to anybody, but that doesn’t mean that won’t change at some point if I ever happen to find an MC that I think meshes well with this version of him lol. Being an academic writer, though, he travels the world and is frequently on another continent. So he tries to visit as much as possible, but it’s usually only a few times a year. I’m sure all the kids are amazed by Sebastian’s job, and I think Joseph would definitely be enamored by it the most out of all three of them. In a way, I think it helps shape and inspire Joseph to not let his disability dictate his interests or aspirations.

Hello....I'm Kiki (he/it), 30 years old, did you know there's pokemon the normal person doesn't even know exist? I am a self proclaimed 'missing number' and 'glitch' pokemon expert, having officialy and properly studied these creatures since my late teens, though ive been encountering them since i was younger. I will not be revealing where I currently live, what I have done to obtain these pokemon, nor the names of anyone i know in real life. Though I am originally from Cinnabar Island, where I first encountered a 'missing number'
Tumblr media
I assume I should tell you about my team now.
Javascript the Charmander, lvl 85 - yes she is a Charmander, no I will not be revealing why she looks like a bulbasaur, yes she is still a fire type, no she cannot evolve.
HTML the Nidoking, lvl 100 - yes he is really level 100. He is also incredibly shy, please do not send mail with the intent to scare him. It's a shame I even have to ask that
C the Gengar, lvl 285 - he is lvl 285, why is that so hard to believe? I don't really see him often as he likes to watch from the shadows.
Mewthree the Mew, lvl 1 - I am not entirely sure this is a mew, despite what the pokedex tells me. Sounds like a zapdos and only knows transform. Rather sweet which is surprising.
Perl the ???, lvl unknown - a 'missing number' taking the form of a ghost, I don't know it's specific classification nor its level, it is not registered to me yet follows me around very closely.
BAD EGG the egg, no lvl - this was once a breloom named Python, I am unsure what happened to cause Python to revert back to her egg state, nor why she is registered as 'bad egg' but I hope to rehatch her soon.
Pokemon NOT in my battle team ;
Lola the Zubat, lvl 5 - a jolly natured zubat with a lack of teeth, shes new around the house but seems to really like to sit on my head..
Milo the Zubat, lvl 5 - a calm natured zubat, like Lola he's new, he seems to really like napping and likes to ride around on HTML to nap..

The sequel we didn't know we needed until I woke up randomly and wrote it!
It's the one where Mikey gets his son a pet
But part two ohoo
Part one is in the masterlist
Tumblr media
Mikey was exhausted as he walked into the penthouse, bones cracking as he wandered to his son's room and watched his son try and read a story to the nanny and Spork, the ball python sitting content in the terrified nannies hands.
Guess she didn't like snakes.
"And they lived happily ever after!" (Name) said happily as he closed the picture book Mikey would read to him before bed, it was also the same book Shinchiro read to him.
Mikey wonders what it would have been like if Shinchiro could meet his nephew.
Mikey cleared his throat, alerting the two and (name) smiled as he took Spork back from the poor nanny, holding him gently as he put him in his tank and once his hands were free.
He ran straight into his dad's arms!
Spork didn't like being ran with and (name) made sure everyone followed that after Mikey told him it makes snakes dizzy.
But honestly he just didn't want (name) bit.
"Papa! You're back!" (Name) said giggly as the nanny made her exit to go wash her hands, didn't need Salmonella poisoning after all.
"I am, you good today?" Mikey asked carrying him to the connected bathroom as if he didn't have cameras everywhere to make sure (name) never got hurt or anything.
"Yeah! Mrs. Aiko and I we-we made cookies! And she taught me how to write my name!" (Name) said happily as they washed their hands in the child friendly soap that smelt like cotton candy, Mikey heart warming as he kissed his son's forehead "did you leave any for daddy? And you're gonna have to show me later bud"
"Mrs. Aiko said sharing is caring! We made choco!"
Mikey mentally snorted at he whole sharing is caring concept but said nothing as the two dried their hands on the expensive towels , Mikey carrying the kid into the dining area where the nanny was making dinner.
She was newer, nervous about being near Mikey.
Probably because he had the last nanny killed for flirting with him and infront of his kid no less!
So he obviously had to make an example.
Once dinner was made the nanny departed, (name) hugging her legs and offering her a parting cookie and with the cold stare from the father she took it to avoid upsetting the child infront of her, though from what Mikey gathered she actually enjoyed the company of (name) even if it came with hanging out with a snake.
The Sano duo ate peacefully while (name) rambled about his day and after eating, Mikey let him watch his pre-bedtime cartoon (show).
Mikey heard somewhere that you dream what see prior to sleep so he tried to make sure (name) only saw good things before bed.
He didn't want his kid having sleepless nights like him.
Or the dreams he had.
God no.
"Alright bud, time for bed" Mikey said as the credits rolled, changing his son into his pajamas and reading him a bed time story "alright night bud, love you" Mikey said to the sleepy child who pointed to the snake tank "and spork?"
Mikey sighed before looking at the lounging snake in a stick "goodnight spork, I love you" he said done, as he closed the door gently and walked to his own room and promptly passed out.

Went directly to your inbox with this, hope you don't mind because I love arguing about irrelevant shit for fun
; are certainly better than whitespace because you can actually see them! When I add additional whitespace and my code doesn't work how will I find it huh? It's literally invisible /j
Also your compiler will tell you "expecting ; at line 4" or something like that most of the time
Ps. I actually think both phyton and c languages are pretty solid I just think c# is better if you want to start learning coding.
There are plenty awful programing languages out there that are much worse than both of them. Like the one I have to use at work 😭
ok i think ur right re the ; being atleast visible but the thing is, python doesnt need an end of line indicator! it only needs indentation! and that is pretty easy to do with even the standard python ide. with the ; languages, thats not the case. i put ; a the end of the line but even then its so difficult to see what code ive written and where it needs to be and i have to indent stuff anyway to be able to make anything out. altho that is a good point re the 'compiler will tell expecting ; at line 4' but so does python! it does tell you 'expecting indent at line 4' so i think that evens out
also i have never touched c# actually. so far my experience with those has been only c and c++ the first of which was required in my syllabus and the second bcoz everyone i talked to insisted that c is trash and that i should do c++ to actually understand the data structures stuff they were teaching us. i ended up getting pretty annoyed with c and then i started focusing on ml which is pretty much a python thing so i didnt do much of c++ too so yeah im mostly just focusing on that rn. wiat i just started rambling um anyway

Words: 942
Chapters: 1/1
Summary:
Donna tries to get the Doctor to sleep, to mixed success. --- The Doctor doesn’t respond, so Donna continues. “You just run all the time, spaceman.” “Keeps things interesting,” the Doctor says. “Keeps you from thinking.” There’s a pause, before the Doctor says, “Yeah.” --- Written for Whumptober 2023, day 12. Prompt used is insomnia.
“You look tired,” Donna says.
It’s right after Pompeii and they’re curled up in one of the TARDIS’s rooms, half watching a movie — she thinks it’s a Monty Python thing, but she’s never seen it before, not that she’s paying much attention. It’s just something to have in the background so they don’t have to talk — about what happened in Pompeii, about what the Doctor told her about its people.
“Just a long day,” the Doctor answers.
“Doesn’t mean you’re not tired.”
The Doctor glances over to her, face unreadable, and shrugs.
The subject is dropped, like most subjects are that day.
---
“How does the telepathy work?” asks Donna.
They’re sitting on the floor of the main room, the Doctor fixing something and Donna handing him tools.
“What do you mean?” the Doctor asks. “Hand me the, um—“ it makes a grabbing motion with his hands, and Donna hands him the pliers.
“You said you have telepathy, and the Oods are also telepathic. Do you sing like them?”
The Doctor shakes his head. “No, when I’m not touching someone, my telepathy’s usually… more low level.”
“Yeah?”
“Constant empathetic telepathy. I feel what people are feeling. Works best with other telepathic creatures.”
“And when you’re touching someone?”
“I could make you hear the Ood,”
“And that’s it?”
The Doctor leans back from what he’s working on and takes its glasses off. “No, I can do more. Time Lords have quite powerful telepathy, actually. Oods are just a bit more… versatile, I suppose.”
“Are they going to be okay?”
The Doctor turns to look at Donna, then shrugs. “If the humans don’t try anything, they should be alright.”
“And if they do?”
“Oods have no defences. No natural predators. They’re like… dodos, or penguins. On Earth.”
“The dodos are all dead.”
“But the penguins aren’t,” the Doctor counters. “We can go back sometime, see if they’re still alright.”
“I’d like that,” Donna says, holding back a yawn. “Long day. I’m going to go to bed. You coming, spaceman?”
“Going to work on this a bit more. You think about where we’re going.”
“I don’t even know what options there are.”
The Doctor grins up at her. “Fine, we’ll put her on random again. Whole universe to explore!”
“Is that why you never sleep?”
The Doctor waves her off. “I sleep plenty.”
---
“Do you want to just take a break? Get some sleep, have a day to just… process it all?”
The Doctor looks up from the guidebook of the city they’re in — Donna still hasn’t been able to understand what any of the Doctor’s rambling explanations actually mean, but she’s fairly sure they’re underneath an ocean, an ocean that may be about to flood the place — but continues walking in front of her. Martian and its long legs.
“This is a break,” he answers.
“Yeah, so why are we speed-walking to the city council building?”
“Bit too urgent to take a stroll.”
“So, not a break, then.”
The Doctor stops, turns around, takes off his glasses. “There’s a whole universe to see, there’s a whole universe to save, people who need our help.”
“And you have a time machine.”
The Doctor doesn’t respond, so Donna continues. “You just run all the time, spaceman.”
“Keeps things interesting,” the Doctor says.
“Keeps you from thinking.”
There’s a pause, before the Doctor says, “Yeah.”
---
“You look exhausted.”
“I am,” the Doctor answers, and Donna knows it’s bad when he doesn’t try to deny it.
“I should have been there,” Donna says and the Doctor shrugs.
“I don’t think it would’ve changed anything.”
“I would’ve stopped them.”
The Doctor shrugs again, then is quiet, before Donna stands up.
“Come on, let’s go.”
She walks with the Doctor to the TARDIS. It’s quiet, unbearably quiet. Things just aren’t quiet with the Doctor, things aren’t still, and yet the alien next to her is both.
“Go to sleep,” she says. “You’ll feel better in the morning.”
It looks at her, and she hates it when his face is blank like that, because she knows him well enough now to know what it means.
“I don’t want to just lie there,” it says, and that’s wrong too, because it’s not part of their little song and dance. Donna says he needs to sleep, the Doctor says it doesn’t want to sleep because there’s a whole universe out there, Donna infers it’s because he doesn’t want to be without a distraction. It’s not supposed to say it himself. It’s not supposed to look so bloody defeated.
“Would it help if I was there?”
The Doctor pauses, then nods.
---
“Glad I finally got you to actually sleep,” Donna says.
It’s been… well, time is difficult, but it’s been a little while since Donna first suggested they sleep in the same bed. They’re like kids at a sleepover, one’s feet by the other’s head, chattering away until they both fall asleep. It’s actually working, as far as Donna can tell. At least he’s a bit more willing to actually go to sleep when it doesn’t entail lying in a dark room for however long it actually takes to nod off.
“Glad I finally got you to stop bringing it up all the time,” the Doctor responds.
It gets nightmares sometimes, Donna thinks, but she’s a heavy sleeper, always has been, and mostly only notices when she wakes up and it’s not there.
“Yeah, well, now you don’t look like you could get knocked over by a strong breeze.”
The Doctor scoffs. “I can take worse than a strong breeze,”
“I said looks, didn’t I?”
The Doctor climbs under the covers. “Goodnight, Donna.”
“Night, spaceman.”

Re: Axolotls (I'm a different anon), could you elaborate on why those are things that should discourage axolotl keeping?
I'm confused because originally I assumed you meant highly specialized as in their captive care was complex, but that doesn't seem to be true. I think you meant highly specialized as in they're not generalists and have a very specific wild habitat? But I don't see how captive axolotls impact that.
I'm also not sure how them being an endangered species is relevant? I'd get it if they were being taken from the wild, but I can't find anything that suggests that they are, and I don't see a reason they would be given that they're so easy to breed in captivity and so rare in the wild.
Everything I can find suggests they do well in captivity (when given proper care) and their endangerment in the wild has to do with invasive species, pollution, and habitat loss. I don't see how the things you brought up would be reasons to not keep axolotls in captivity.
I'm genuinely curious about your reasoning, and I'm sorry for rambling, I'm not good at condensing my thoughts.
I am just generally against the commodification of wildlife. I loathe the exotic pet trade. I don’t like non-domesticated animals being kept as pets. I am a very firm believer in the concept of “just because you like this wild animal does not mean it belongs in your home”.
A lot of captive bred axolotl are inbred at this point which is a less opinionated reason I suppose. I am just not a fan of less commonly seen exotic animals being sold as pets because it does feel like getting a pet just to seem cool online. AntsCanada of course was one of the worst examples of people buying things like axolotl without actually caring about the animal beyond aesthetic, but I encounter it a lot in people who keep reptiles and amphibians.
Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of people who know how to care for a python or bearded dragon, that’s fine and dandy, but there is this underlying culture in the broader community that you have to have unique animals, new morphs, so on and so forth. In general there is a very large problem with a lot of herp enthusiasts turning into animal hoarders and backyard breeders.
This is no longer axolotl specific and I know that no matter how many qualifiers I add to this people will still claim that I’m saying anyone with ectotherms is a hoarder which is certainly untrue. I’m general however I have noticed that many people who buy or want to buy axolotl fall into this category.

something something Valkyrie Cain's struggles with mental illness are so well-portrayed and I remember reading the scene in [I don't remember what book but it was in phase 2 of the books so spoilers for that] where she's sitting in a car and she thinks she's dead and thinking 'holy shit how did Derek Landy write this so well' and just her depression is so relatable as well and the fact that she suffers from more than one mental illness but it's seen as valid and not that she's faking and I think it's rare that in popular media we get a queer woman with mental illnesses who is portrayed positively and sympathetically and isn't a villain and I love her and the way she's written and sometimes I love this book series so much it makes me incomprehensible something something

🌞✨🏛️for the ask game!
Thank you so much for the ask! :D
🌞 - Which deity(ies) are you closest to/do you worship the most often?
I am definitely closest to Apollo! He was the first, and so far only, deity that I have worshipped. He has been a huge impact on my life :)
✨ - Do you believe in patron deities? If so, do you have any that you know of?
I definitely believe in them, but I don't think I have one, at least right now. To be honest, I haven't done a ton of research on the topic yet, and the stuff I have seen hasn't really given me a super direct definition of a patron deity, so I'm really not sure ^^; I think it would be super cool if Apollo was my patron, but I don't know how to tell if that would be the case
🏛️ - Do you have a favorite statue or temple to your deity(ies)? If yes, what is it?
I do! One of my absolute favourites is "Apollo mit dem getöten Python," sculpted by François Gaspard Adam. I just find it so so beautiful and almost ethereal. Also, the pose is really interesting to me. I don't quite know how to put it. I think a lot of the statues that I see of him are in a standing position, and this resting, sitting pose is a nice contrast to that I think
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Photography by Luminous Artefact and Steffen Heilfort respectively)
And also, there's another statue that I love. But it's like, way more of a mystery to me?? I am going to ramble a bit about it
I saw this photo captioned as "Apollo Citharoedus" and immediately fell in love with it.
Tumblr media
I looked up the name, but aparrently (i think) "Apollo Citharoedus" is just a term for any statue of Apollo with a lyre. So I decided to reverse-image search it
But when I tried to find the original photographer of this specific image, not only could I not find them, but now I can't figure out if it's actually a statue of Apollo or not. See, some sources claim that it is him, but others say that it's actually a statue of one of the muses, and is part of a set of statues that includes one of Apollo.
But in the virtual tour of the museum where it is, it doesn't seem to be part of a set of anything specific?? Like it looks very individual
Tumblr media
And I cannot even find the original name of the piece. The only things I know about it are that it's in a Vatican Museum, and that this statue is a Roman copy of a Greek original.
And also, I might just be really stupid, but to me personally, the statue looks super androgynous, so I can't even tell by trying to figure it out by gender.
I actually have zero idea. But I think it's a gorgeous statue either way <3
If you read this whole thing, you rock btw

// i still have emoji asks to address but i got my hands on python’s map sprite and got so distracted today looking at the variation in his eye color that i’m making a post about it as if someone sent me the 👁️ emoji real quick. thank u all for being patient with me
i had myself convinced that the only reason Python’s eyes are blue in his cipher card are because he’s a very blue guy, and fire emblem characters often have eye colors that match their hair. after all, his portrait ripped straight out of the game clearly shows that his eyes are um. uhhh.
Tumblr media
dark brown-grey? idk. they’re dark.
the grey is emphasized much more in his FEH art, turning them into a lighter steely color. they’re also much colder/bluer, though some of the warmth in the original art could be ascribed to the general warm, sepia-ish tones that are used pretty consistently in SOV’s character art.
Tumblr media
in his cipher art that shit is just blue. when i eyedropped it, a lot of the tones in there are darker/greyer than i thought, but idk how much of that is also because i have yet to get my hands on a scan of the art that isn’t pretty crunchy. still definitely blue, and looking like it’s pulling hues from his hair.
Tumblr media
so i was like “fuck it, they’re dark grey-brown. cipher just got it wrong.” until i remembered to look at his map sprite.
Tumblr media
yyyou little motherfucker
anyway, i still insist on dark-eyed python. i just think it looks nice, and i’ve described his eyes that way too many times to go back lol. ridiculous maddie fact of the night is that i actually edited this blog’s icon to tone down the blue in his eyes. the resolution is not high because, again. only got crunchy copies (and i am not an experienced image editor lmfao)
Tumblr media
the original emoji prompt also asked if there was anything notable about the character’s eyes, so i’ll just add in that they’re often closer to a lazy half-mast, giving off either a sleepy or smarmy sort of impression (he is both). there’s a sharp quality to them, though—he’s a sharpshooter, and he sizes up situations both on and off the battlefield with a quick mind behind that lackadaisical attitude.
if you read this far thanks for playing along with my rambling nothing-post!! i think about this guy a regular amount! i-
sorry i just double checked his meet the heroes art. sharena what the HELL!!

a bit of a personal ramble here...actually no I’m about to be really cringe as I kind of rant about the anxieties and issues I’ve been going through lately in a super roundabout way
but in the long ago days (by which I mean like 10 years ago) and when I was an even louder Persona fan, I made a Shadow version of my main OC/blatant self-insert Alyss Baraen and it was therapeutic to some extent
(more under the cut)
Shadow Alyss even had a cringe name and design - Gerhild, the Witch of Destiny (very long story), and was kind of a representation of my suppressed anger issues and general teenage angst at being different. One could say, a manifestation of the Id.
You can actually find that name in the really old posts of this blog but...please don’t “orz
All that was kinda based off the issues that a teenaged me knew of herself, but I feel rather ashamed to say, those issues haven’t 100% gone away, they still ebb and flow and take different forms, and I gotta smash them all the same
What I am saying is that I’ve been gnawing on the idea of re-doing the “Shadow Alyss” idea with the updated knowledge of myself now and the more recent anxieties I’ve had to deal with. And the hilarity is that the motif is completely the opposite of what I did as a teenager while somehow still being thematically the same.
Given the witch/Carmen San Diego design motifs the regular Alyss already has from the red and hat, I couldn’t help but also notice how much like a Spanish Inquisitor (insert Monty Python joke here) she looks like, and the moment I thought of that given Alyss being a very religious character, everything just completely fell into place
(Fun fact: Years ago when I was into imagining what kind of Personas my characters would have, Alyss’ was supposed to be Agustina de Aragon, Spanish folk heroine who is drawn with a big hecking cannon. It all comes full circle.)
Tumblr media
(Inquisitor from DFO, danbooru link warning)
The Inquisitor would be all of Alyss’ self-depreciation and anxieties that she isn’t good enough at...well, anything. Mostly not being a good enough person or Christian. It’s not like she resents her faith, but she absolutely does feel like she’s been put under a microscope her whole life and she needs to scrutinize her every action as to whether it is moral or not. Chalk it up to her emotional nature and sensitivities that take her every action as reflecting on her moral character. A mistake or a failure to do “the right thing” isn’t just one bad act - it’s a stain on her very identity as someone who professes to follow God. Or a good daughter. Or a good friend. A good person.
Of course, this is a self-inflicted wound in many ways. She hates being criticized, and the expectation to always be ‘good’ or following the standards of what makes a moral religious person causes a lot of guilt in her when she does wrong, or anxiety that she might do wrong. A lot of what I imagined about The Inquisitor isn’t just the religious motif, but the motif of fear and punishment. The Judge and Executioner who instills the fear of God in sinners. A horribly apt symbol, imo, of what anxiety feels like, of that looming darkness that constantly beats down on you. The voice that says “this is ABSOLUTELY a terrible idea” even before you take a step.
Heck for extra factor on the monster of fear part, throw in the white eyes on a completely shadowed face a la Scarecrow from the later Batman TAS episodes
Tumblr media
(this is the least disturbing picture I could find of him)
All these fear motifs are, of course, painfully ironic when you consider that not only this image is Alyss’ exaggerated idea of her faith, it’s also 100% contradictory of what her faith truly stands for. What she herself has constantly told others. That God isn’t an angry God who judges sinners, but a gentle one who forgives, and justifies not by adherence to laws, but faith in a greater power. In fact, the power that forgives and lets people not be punished for what they deserve.
And though this is a totally cheesy idea...I would like to imagine if you face the Inquisitor in a dungeon, in like a medieval-style execution grounds, you would see those crumbling old walls with broken carvings that have the words “Condemnation in Christ” on them, and then noticing the walls were broken, you’d eventually find the missing half of the wall which must be attached before the initial wall, with the words, “There is No”
Look, I’ve already spilled my guts out with this “I have a friend”-type post, I can afford to be cringe about something that means a lot to me
Especially since...it’s very obviously been weighing on my mind a lot lately
No matter whether Alyss Baraen thinks herself a “witch” or feels tormented by an “Inquisitor” the root cause is still the same - she fears that she isn’t worthy or that God possibly is angry at her for whatever sin or failure to be human/good she’s committed. And despite her own beliefs, or the love and support of others, being a clear evidence to the contrary, she finds it hard to trust that that love is real.
Many times, it’s terrifying to trust people you love, or to have any hope at all. Because what if you’re disappointed? Worse, what if you’re just plain wrong? You could say to yourself how much good you’ve done or how much people clearly love and care for you, and have it still mean absolutely nothing. Because the evidence for your imperfection, the world’s imperfection, and the hurts you bear feel so much more real than the idea that you might deserve happiness.
And the more you think that way, the more you inevitably project that idea onto a higher power, like God. Because how could it be true that He offers you all things for nothing? Less than nothing - you’re a “terrible person” who deserves to be punished, and yet He isn’t. In fact, He’s saying all’s good, you just need to do better and keep loving and trusting Him, and He’ll do the rest.
Without any obvious proof, except the life you’ve already lived, and the words He’s said.
A tall order to believe in, isn’t it?
Trust is never easy, and in fact, often seems far less logical than just continuing to remain on guard, always.
To believe in there being good and kindness in your future often seems too good to be true. And soon we start to believe it can never be true.
So I’ve spent a long time rejecting any kind of grace or kindness because I’ve convinced myself there’s no way it’s true. The truth, to me, had to be a harsh revelation of my inherent sinfulness and failure to follow God. Those were obvious ‘proofs’ in my life, after all. It could be nothing else. If I received a kind word, I must have been selfishly trying to avert my eyes from the truth, to what I wanted to hear.
But, you know.
That wasn’t the truth at all.
In my heart of hearts, I KNEW it wasn’t.

Finding A Specific Missing Announcer Voiceline from DDR: Mario Mix
I just went though unimaginable torment (spent 5 hours trying to do this) in order to obtain the following sound byte:
What you hear above is the voice of Londell "Taz" Hicks (I'm 90% certain of this) who was the announcer for several Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) games, both in the arcade games and games for console, particularly Max, Extreme, and SuperNOVA. Based on ear and the release timeframes, he is also the announcer in DDR: Mario Mix.
The above voiceline has been an inside joke in my friend group for more than a decade. It has tormented and taunted us every time we boot up the game. It comes up any time performance is in the question. Speeches, presentations, concerts, D&D games, everything. I wanted this sound byte for the purposes of psychological mayhem and figured I'd do some quick searching and have it downloaded in time to get groceries.
This isolated voiceline does not exist in any archive I could track down.
So, obviously, I figured I'd get it myself. That it would be easy. And, I'll be frank, despite all my struggles, it could've been so much worse if not for the hard work of media archivists before me. Here's how I was able to track this voiceline down:
Getting into Stepmania/ITGMania/Project Outfox necessitated that I know a thing or two about where to get simulation files for the game. In fact, I'd already gotten the simulation files for DDR: Mario Mix, which is what prompted the idea of finding the same announcer. The files only contain music, album art, and step data (the arrows in DDR), and not, reasonably, anything from the game. So I had to look elsewhere.
Stepmania has a large customization and creation community that makes themes, custom charts, and, most importantly for me, announcers. The first thing I did was figure out the most likely announcer for DDR: Mario Mix, then headed to the Stepmania archive and started downloading. I started sifting through the files, but all I could find was this voiceline from DDR Extreme2:
As you can tell, these may be the same words, but it is NOT the same voiceline. It isn't smug enough. It's too supportive. This will not cause the torment I desire. I started to despair. I trawled every single other game Taz had announced for and only found this same inflection. The smugness of DDR: Mario Mix eluded me.
The next thing I did was try to get them from the game itself. The Dolphin Emulator has a really cool feature that lets you extract the contents of "discs" (in this case, a mounted .ciso file). Once I had that, I started to sift through, praying that it wouldn't be embedded in an obscure bin file.
Instead, I found this, in a folder labelled "sound":
Tumblr media
What the hell are these file formats.
Briefly, I gave up on trying to extract things from the disc and started looking in different archives. I found one archive of video game music, that had happened to back up all of DDR: Mario Mix, and it happened to include some sound effects in it! I was hopeful, but after clicking going through every unhelpfully-named file, I was out of luck. Why would an archive lack part of the game? Well I went to the forums tied to the archive and:
Tumblr media
DID YOU REMOVE THE VOICE CLIPS I'VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR, 1425720626? DID YOU?!?!
Anyway. Searching this forum still provided me with some other options. Mainly, a post talking specifically about the msm and pdt files I was confused by before!
Tumblr media
And this was figured out 11-12 years ago!! Remarkably, the download for the script still worked. So I loaded it up into VSCode, fixed some of the outdated code (specifically, had to change ord() calls to int(), some bytes stuff, I could ramble about this, but-), and ran it. This python code produced 465 dsp files. A dsp file is an older type of data sequence file that is common in older videogames and is used to play audio.
Since its on the older and obscure side, it's not something a native media player can play out of the box. The forum I've been searching through, it turns out, is actually part of a bigger website (hcs64) that has tools related to video game music archival, including audio ripping tools and, more importantly, a program that can play and convert dsp files called vgmstream.
I used the vgmstream web player to listen to a couple randomly chosen dsp files I had from the 465 I'd gotten from the python. Luckily, there was a small form of organization, and when I hit the files starting with 0003, I heard the sweet, sweet voice of Londell 'Taz' Hicks. And to my elation, the very second file I tested was the glorious, smug, tormenting words:
Everybody is watching you!
This is generally where you stop, because you've got the file now. But since I'm writing this primarily for my own archival purposes, there's a couple other steps I took after downloading the voiceline.
See, vgmstream converted the file to a wav file and I needed an mp3. This is actually easy enough. If you open up VLC (traffic cone video player) and go to Media>Convert/Save, you can convert it easily. I threw the file in there, made a new profile for the conversion settings, adjusted the bit rate to be the same as the wav file...then, instead of making the sample rate the maximum, like I should've done, I left it at the minimum and, uh...
whoops.
