I'm a firm believer that Buying books and Reading books are two different hobbies. Found some neglected lovelies on the shelf. I think it's time I crack open a few. 📖 💝

i’m reading the sympathizer by viet thanh nguyen which is a spy novel featuring a main character aligned with the north vietnamese, and it’s actually so jarring for me as someone whose family lived in and fled south vietnam post-war (my uncles were among the “vietnamese boat people” and they helped the rest of their family emigrate more safely including my parents). i just read the phrase “stay to witness the liberation of the south by the northern communists” and had to do a few seconds of mental gymnastics to process it bc it’s so opposite of the perspective i grew up with

I’m deep in the stacks of the London Library, trying not to get dizzy as I look down into a multistory drop from the iron-grille floor, when an older man approaches me, looking lost. He’s trying to find the music section, located… somewhere in the darkened rows of books. As a visitor to the historic members-only institution, it takes me a beat to realize that not only do I have zero clue where the section might be, it seems unlikely that I’ll be able to navigate my way out of the building’s origami-like interior without help. (Spoiler: I don’t.) But therein lies the beauty of the London Library. From an idiosyncratic filing system, to a building that encourages exploration, it’s an institution where serendipity and tactile history meet. Which is why it’s the latest selection for Beast Travel’s once a month series on the World’s Most Beautiful Libraries.

“That night. If I’d kissed you right here, just like this,” another gentle brush of lips against his, a thumb sweeping up his cheekbone and back down the line of his jaw, “would it have changed anything?”
What if i died rn. What if i was suicidal. Why must you hurt me like this.
