InuKag x Fruits Basket: The Sheet Scene

Fruits Basket AU featuring InuYasha and Kagome!

Thought I'd get more familiar with the tools on my new drawing tablet! Especially since I'm not as familiar with digital art as I am in traditional art😅

This is a redraw I've wanted to do of the sheet scene glimpsed at in the FB season 3 trailer that is FINALLY going to be animated, but with Inuyasha and Kagome in the place of Kyo and Tohru. I did use a screenshot of this scene as a reference to InuKag's poses, but I tried to keep in mind the artstyle/coloring from the InuYasha anime, since I wanted to experiment with replicating that particular style. All things considered, I think I did pretty okay🤷‍♀️

I had a lot of fun with this. I think I'd like to do an InuYasha AU but with Kyoru (Kyo x Tohru) as a parallel to this. What do ya'll think?

Fun Fact: this is my 1st time EVER drawing Inuyasha w/ short hair. I guess short-haired Inuyasha has been growing on me lately😁

Welcome One and All to the Mapping La Sirena Project!

If you are a fan of Star Trek: Picard, and you would like to know more about the show’s most prominent starship, this is the place for you. On this blog, I try to collect and analyse any information about La Sirena I can get my hands on. There are (very occasionally) deep dives into different sections of the ship and I endeavour to answer any questions you might have about our favourite Kaplan F17 Speed Freighter.

Follow me below the cut for the mission statement of this project and an overview of the content so far.

What Am I Doing Here?

This blog has three main modes: Deep Dives into one specific section of La Sirena, general observations and discussions of aspects of the ship that I find interesting or confounding, and answers to questions that people sent in. Below, you can find an overview of the topics I’ve tackled so far, as well as some upcoming deep dives. (I do have a to-do list for which I take suggestions as well.)

Occasionally I’ll reblog some art other people made of Sirena, as well as interesting videos, articles, or general news. Check out the list of tags if you want to have a look at those.

A Couple of Notes

Questions

I'm always utterly delighted when someone asks me a question about some aspect of La Sirena, or they send in some interesting observations, theories, or headcanons of their own.

This whole project started because I was looking for a layout or a set of deck plans of the ship to help me figure out the logistics of a story I was writing. I kept rewatching the scenes on Sirena over and over again to find answers to such questions as “Is it possible for a football to roll from the upper deck into the mess hall?” Eventually, I decided it would be a lot easier to just create a collection of screenshots and start drawing up a set of provisional maps myself.

The collection has since grown to just under 1.5k screenshots, an assortment of links to external sources, excerpts from interviews, and one physical model (hooray for Eaglemoss!). I will jump at any excuse to comb through it all to help find answers to whichever question you might have.

And I do mean “whichever question”. There is no such thing as “too pedantic” or “too nit-picky”, or “too obvious” on this blog. Want to know how many steps there are between the mess hall and the bridge? I have the screenshots to figure it out. Wondering where the plants that Agnes waters might be located? I’ve collected evidence and a bunch of headcanons I’d love to share. Feel like there is something eeeeeever so slightly off about the support beams in sickbay? You have a very good eye and I spent an entire weekend obsessing over it. There is no such thing as a stupid or unwelcome question, and if I don’t know the answer, maybe someone else from our little fandom community will be able to jump in and help.

Tv Set vs . Starship

Throughout all of these explorations, it’s important to remember that the set of La Sirena is just that: a tv set. When building a set, there are many constraints of time, budget, and practicality that will force the production team to make decisions that won’t always make sense when mapped onto a “real” starship. Take, for example, the fact that the Captain’s Quarters and the Ready Room were filmed in the same room, just redressed for the occasion.

Whenever these kinds of inconsistencies show up, I have a tendency to look for in-universe explanations first. Speculations and headcanons will always be clearly pointed out and tagged as such, so you know what we can actually tell from canon and can come to your own conclusions.

However, this blog is written partially from a production perspective. Sometimes, my answer to “it doesn’t make sense; why is it this way?” will simply be “for production reasons, this choice was made, in-universe it would probably actually look like this...” There can be great joy in trying to find canon-compliant explanations for even the most flagrant incongruities, but my posts are long enough as it is, so I’m probably going to hand off the more involved explanations to the amazing fanfic- and meta-writers in this fandom ;)

Above all, this blog is a love letter to La Sirena, and all the amazing people responsible for her creation: the designers and productions teams, the set decorators and visual effects artists. Even from a cursory glance you can tell just how much thought and care went into building every aspect of this ship. I hope my little project will be a useful source of information, but more importantly a place where we can all geek out together and share our collective love of La Sirena.

This press release does not separate Cartoon Network shows from HBO Max shows.

3 Ben 10 (2016) specials - Three 44-minute specials are scheduled for April 2021. The press release makes it sound like they’re all going to premiere in April, which sounds like overkill.

Craig of the Creek - Season 4 is happening. This isn’t the only news about Craig of the Creek, but that’s going in a different article.

Gremlins: The Secrets of the Mogwai - This show, made for HBO Max, already has a Season 2, and Season 1 has not even premiered yet.

Infinity Train: Book Four - One of the more exciting bits of news, especially with rumors of Infinity Train’s cancellation, is that Book Four will exist. They kept it pretty vague outside of involving two “old friends.”

Jade Armor - A brand new show, involving a martial arts-obsessed girl learning the ancient secrets of her family. A good show for Cartoon Network’s new direction to add shows for girls, which is why it’s heading for HBO Max.

Total Drama Island - Total Drama Island is coming back with two seasons. This is the show with the teens, not the show with the teens as little kids.

Victor and Valentino - This show still exists.

There’s some other new projects as well:

The Amazing World of Gumball Movie (working title) - Good news: Gumball won’t end with a bunch of clip shows and a loose ending, as a movie will be made.

Family Mash-Up (working title) - A live-action sitcom involving musical families. There is no confirmation on whether this is HBO Max or Cartoon Network. As much as I really want this to be the former, a recent trailer for Cartoon Network has the words “not always cartoons, but always animated”, which kind of tells me Cartoon Network is once again going to try to go against its name.

Gross Girls -  A show about two girls and the sentence “because with the right best friend, everything is an adventure...even puberty.” Made by Cartoon Network Studios.

Teen Titans Go! The Night Begins to Shine - The popular The Night Begins To Shine episodes of Teen Titans Go are getting their own spin-off series.

Tweety Mysteries (working title) - A live-action/animated hybrid with a duo of a tween blogger named Syndey and the Tweety Bird from Looney Tunes.

Also mentioned in the press release is Tiny Toons Looniversity and Unicorn: Warriors Eternal, both coming to HBO Max. I didn’t even realize Unicorn wasn’t a show that would have been destined for Adult Swim, but I guess that disconfirms it. Something I also realized: deconfirmed isn’t even a word.

I’m coming with this drawing 100 years later, after the beginning of season 3. I was originally planning to finish it much, much earlier but life got in the way and I really need to stop making promises to myself to finish drawings on time because it never happens. 

I know it’s late and ML salt had enough time to evaporate and given the fact that Tumblr Purge happened on 17th December, there’s a possibility that not so many people humour the idea of akumatized Marinette anymore. I get that, I’m probably the only person in the world who wants to see her getting akumatized and “Chameleon” trailer and the episode itself gave me so many ideas how it could go down. So despite all of that, I was determined to finish this piece and I’m happy that I finally had the time to do it. 

Anyway, here’s my design for akumatized!Marinette - when I was trying to figure out all elements of her appearance, I couldn’t decide on her name. Eventually, I came up with totally unoriginal one - Dishonest. 

I love the fact that Marinette has Chinese roots and it’s a real shame that the show never focused on that more than was shown in “Kung Food”. That’s why I decided to use Chinese symbols and culture in her akumatized design - it’s a part of her character that we technically never see. 

Marinette in “Chameleon” was seeking mostly justice, firstly because of seating arragements made by her classmates without her knowledge, secondly because Lila was lying to everyone and getting away with it. That’s the reason I did some research on Chinese symbol of justice, truth and honesty. There are many of them but one caught my attention - Xie Zhi. In short, it’s a name of mystical creature that, according to some legends, was judging human souls by looking at them with merciless eyes that seemed to know everything. And Xie Zhi has also very interesting design - dragon head (with angry eyes), rhino horn at the top of the head, tiger legs, fur of the bear and scales. And I thought that it’s the perfect source of inspiration for my akumatized!Marinette design. Her crown is as high as the horn, the tunic underneath has a texture similar to scales, she has gloves with claws and lower parts of the costume are printed in tiger marks. 

I know that this costume is a little bit over the top given all details and there’s no way it could pass to be used in the show. But that’s the beauty of fan creativity, right? And imo, it suits my other ideas for Marinette in akumatized form. I imagine that rather being agressive and dynamically moving akuma, she would have smooth movements, calm attitude and prefer to be static which would be more menacing and unnerving for others. But she still would be a force to reckon with in the fight since her long experience as Ladybug (unknown to others). If she sense the threat, she won’t hesitate to attack. 

As for the weapons of choice, I went with fans since she would be more static akuma. But they would have a real purpose instead of being a simple decoration - she can use longer sticks as pins that she throws at someone who tries to escape her, escape the judgement, and freeze that person in place until she gets closer. Now’s the moment to ask - why does she have red eyes? Well, since Xie Zhi makes a judgement by using only its eyes, I figured that Marinette could force the ‘poor’ soul to reveal all of her/his lies and truths just by looking at them with fierce intensity. She can do that because her eyes are the same shade of red as the biggest jewel in the crown - that plus her eyes create a deadly combo that forces anyone to involuntary confess if she/he’s looking at it at the same time. It may seem not that bad unless you consider how harsh words and opinions can be heard from person that fell into Dishonest trap and how they can affect people around that person. 

I also have few headcannons regarding Dishonest: 

- Marinette’s transformation would be a long one because she would try to slow the process down, hoping that she would calm down before it could be completed. She would even have the time to run from school in the seek of a hideout. 

- Hawkmoth would be impressed because no one delayed the transformation for so long and they would get into a really important discussion through their link. 

- Tikki would disappear physically at the start of the transformation - I didn’t decide if akuma would go for Marinette’s earrings but I think that this whole mess would trap Tikki in Marinette’s mind. 

- Marinette of course would target Lila first and she would have some heavy evidence against her, so it wouldn’t be considered a normal revenge - that would include Lila’s revealation in the bathroom but I don’t know how Marinette would have it recorded. then she would go for her dear classmates, except Adrien. 

- at the mention of Ladybug, she would claim that LB won’t come this time to save the day and, to everyone’s surprise, she would pull out the Miraculous box containing earrings - but in reality, it would be an illusion to lower people morals that beloved heroine was defeated and it would instill a fear in their hearts. 

- Marinette would hide from Hawkmoth the fact that she’s Ladybug and despite fighting Chat and taunting him about Ladybug’s absence, she still wouldn’t be 100% on HM side. 

- Marinette would be strong enough to release herself from akuma’s influence, since there won’t be Ladybug to do it - which would create another problem since Hawkmoth would be definitely more interested in her and keeping an eye on her from now on. 

I’m painfully aware that my art skills aren’t anywhere near perfection as some amazing artists here and I’m still learning digital drawing, that’s why I didn’t include all my ideas for this design. Maybe someday I’ll redraw it and actually include some quality lightning and textures of animals that Xie Zhi is made of. But I had to put watermarks on it, juuust to be sure it won’t be reposted anywhere.

This anniversary, I wanted to pay tribute to the show by redrawing my favorite SDCC poster. With a few changes. It’s been 3 years since this poster came out on the internet, but it’s the poster for the first SDCC I experienced in this fandom. Below the cut is me being sentimental because I really love this show and its impact on my life is greater than one would think.

March 26th, 2015. I decide to watch Steven Universe after seeing gifsets of the first Stevenbomb on my dash from lingering members of the people who worked on my previous hyperfixation Attack on Space (A spinoff AU from the parent series Attack on Titan, which my interest in was fading quickly). I opt to watch the episodes that are on demand because they’re easier to access. I watch Alone Together first, Full Disclosure second (actual quote from me, who hadn’t known about SU’s musical nature: “Since when is SU a musical?!”). I then spend the next week or two watching the episodes on demand, then going onto KissCartoon to watch the series in order, in its entirety. (Quote when watching S1E05 Frybo: “I’m glad I’m watching these now before this inevitably becomes my new hyperfixation.” I have second hand embarrassment moments from this episode to this day). My brother decides to watch with me occasionally.

Fast forward to the end of March. I’m caught up with the series (back then only up to Joy Ride, which aired the day I began this journey). My friend Zac and I are now both into the show, and the following week Attack the Light comes out the same day that Say Uncle airs. Say Uncle is the first episode I watch live. I download ATL and finish it within a week. The rest of the weekly episodes (you heard me: weekly) were to follow and I was excited to officially be involved in the fandom. The beginning of April, I found the comics and I got to issue #5, the one where Pearl sucks in a gem-embedded book into her own gem and becomes ill from it. that was the day that I realized Pearl was my favorite character. Hurt/comfort is my way to tell.

I carry on watching the episodes throughout the month, and then after Reformed airs, we are faced with a hiatus. back then, a month and a half was a long time. Then, I got into the Pearl theories. I was all over the so called “nacre theory” right up until the theory had been confirmed in Back to the Barn (I still am, though the term “nacre theory” takes on a whole new meaning that I’m not sure will see the light of day now that we know more about Homeworld). You should have seen me go ham reblogging things about Pearl being lower-class, a lowly technician (ha), a maintenance drone. And all Pearls looked exactly the same back then in the fanart.

May 26th they announced the second Stevenbomb, half the fandom combusted. So did I. Sworn to the Sword happened and I had more fuel for the NT. I woke up that Thursday morning to a gifset of Pearl and Rose’s fusion dance because We Need to Talk leaked and spontaneously combusted right there. Then they announced Week of Sardonyx and our naive selves said “another one?” I went camping that weekend, which was also the weekend of SDCC. I nearly had a heart attack from my over-excitement when I got home that Sunday.

Week of Sardonyx came and went, with even more fuel to the fire for the NT. Cartoon Network does their greatest fuckup of the year by accidentally putting all of the Summer of Steven episode titles a whole year before they air. They changed the release date for the weekly episodes from August 6th to September 10th, and then we were graced by small Peridot on September 24th.

Back to the Barn airs. I die.

Then we go into a very long hiatus until Stevenbomb 4, airing in January 2016. This marks the first epsiodes to be leaked with the traditional screenshots + 2 minute clip. This was our first look at both diamonds + their pearls, and people were reasonably excited. Then we entered what we thought was the longest hiatus in fandom history–and we got the In Too Deep special earlier than expected.

Following the special, they announced the Steven Nuke/Summer of Steven. 4 weeks of episodes every night from mid-July to mid-August. Mr. Greg was the first musical episode and the crew hyped it up so much and yet it still had a huge impact on those watching that night. It was nominated for an Emmy one year later in 2017. We got some of the most intense episodes of the show in that bomb, with Amethyst’s arc, Bismuth holding the first half-hour special, the revelation that Rose supposedly shattered Pink Diamond, and Centipeetle’s corruption being explained further. Following SOS, there were weekly episodes and then another short hiatus, until Gem Harvest’s release in November. A short hiatus and then Three Gems and a Baby aired in early December.

During 2016, I meet two of my best friends through the fandom - @always-make-it-gayer and @hackerperidot. Gale and J have been my friends since that summer and because of this fandom, I’ve been less lonely and have had a blast in the ever growing group chat we have (Reverse Garden of Eden). I love you guys, and of course everyone else in the chat.

Following 3GAAB, in early January 2017, the entirety of Stevenbomb 5 drops on the app. Pictures with the diamonds and the zoo and the famethyst were on the internet in seconds. I had been on holiday break from school, and the night this all dropped was the first school night when the break was over. I stayed up very late, watched the episodes when I woke up for school in the morning, and listened to What’s the Use of Feeling Blue on repeat in the cold, snowy weeks to come. This was also right around the time my mom bought a house and we were ready to move in.

I got another birthday episode–Rocknaldo, airing on February 24th. Could’ve been better. I’m not complaining though. SU was crucial during this time because I was feeling very depressed and closed off due to the move and missing the apartment. The New Crystal Gems was the last episode the apartment got to see, and I promised to show Pearl’s backstory when it eventually aired, but we moved too early for that to happen. I like to imagine it can see my journal entries (you can ask if you want, in short it’s a coping mechanism I developed). Thereafter, we had another hiatus leading up to the sixth Stevenbomb with Aquamarine and Topaz. That bomb ended with the saddest episode in the series, finalizing season 4. Then the Wanted event aired, and we got so much lore content and more hints to the Pink Diamond mystery.

There came the biggest hiatus in the fandom’s history to this day. We were so thirsty for content. It was dry as fuck and the only light in the dark was SDCC with the Lars of the Stars clip (which would then air months later) and the trailer for the first half of season 5′s kickoff bomb.

Gemcation airs, and everyone finally understands Pearl’s quirk with covering her mouth in discussions about the diamonds. We all were getting so antsy at this point to find out what was happening with Pink Diamond and the lore behind the show and by god where is White Diamond?

We get Stranded in January 2018, allowing us to spark the “diamonds get revealed in January” meme with the Pink Diamond face reveal. Of course, this is debunked by Legs From Here To Homeworld in July 2018.

We get more episodes in March, and then are plunged into the final reveal in May with the half hour event, Can’t Go Back and A Single Pale Rose. The fandom collectively freaked out with the revelation that Pearl and Rose were diamond and pearl and faked the shattering in an effort to end the war. The people who survived this saw the Heart of the Crystal Gems arc in July. This was the week that held the Rupphire wedding.

Reunited airs, and I am surrounded by 3 of my best friends ( @asassynerdnamedgabbs, @neroblackcat, and @hackerperidot who had been visiting New York from Australia that week ) so I hold myself back from reacting too much. I cried that night out of sheer joy that my favorite show was the first cartoon to show a lesbian wedding on national TV. Of course, we get the diamonds and then SDCC the following weeks, with Legs From Here to Homeworld. I am at my cousin’s graduation party the day of the panel and my phone is slowly losing battery percentage as I try to keep up with the tweets and posts about what was going on. It was a huge deal.

Now we arrive here. Nothing had been shown at last month’s NYCC which is unusual, but that’s okay. We are still on hiatus, and it is SU’s 5th anniversary of being on the air. I am patiently waiting for the show to come back, and I’ll have more memories to make with this fandom in the months to come.
