Immediately, sweet, flowing music flooded his ears and Remus’ knees felt weak. It was Severus’ half of the duet they’ve been working on - Canon. In all their weeks of practice, Remus had never heard him play it so beautifully. Watching Severus move in time with the music as he reached up and down the keys was hypnotising, but somehow Remus forced his legs to carry him over to the piano.

He sat beside Severus, but he didn’t join in with his half just yet. Instead, he paused to watch how Severus’ long fingers spanned multiple keys, copying the annotations in the sheet music in front of him almost perfectly. He had rolled his black shirtsleeves up to his elbows, exposing the rare sight of his pale, lean forearms. Dragging his eyes up to the side profile of Severus’ face, some fine, black hair had fallen from its place behind his ear. His brow was furrowed in concentration, but there was a keen, close-mouthed smile on his face. It was a look of determination.
