I started SPN in 2013 as a bibro that shipped destiel. The thing that finally brought me to the fandom was the podfic of Two Boys From Kansas in King Uther’s Court (a BBC Merlin/SPN gen crossover), and I binge-watched s1-7 a couple times with my baby bro until new episodes started coming out and watched those as they aired until s10. Came back to fandom in 2020 and couldn't enjoy much destiel content. The culture of heller fandom and my preference for a canon-adjacent aroace relationship that doesn't sideline Sam or change Dean's character has made my enjoyment of most deancas content a thing of the past. (Also I'm like 200% more obsessed with SamDean since the finale.)

Hi, I was wondering who is your favourite character and who is the most disliked one

Ok so this is... impossible to answer in a concise way lol.

I'll just stick with the main characters because I don't think I could go through all of them lol.

There aren't any characters I hate necessarily, except maybe Kilgharrah. For obvious reasons. If not obvious, I shall explain: He's a manipulative bastard who twisted Merlin round and round until he didn't know who he was anymore, to the point of hurting his friends and mistrusting everyone he met, to hiding himself from Arthur, Gwaine, Gwen, to thinking his only worth was what he could do for destiny. Merlin was a whole ass person, and yes the destiny was important, but Merlin shouldn't have had the whole thing resting on only his shoulders. His and Arthur's destiny was shared, they were meant to be equal, but Kilgharrah (and Gaius, I'll get to him in a moment) just kept piling the pressure on Merlin alone whilst driving home the point that Arthur can't know. First off, that's very infantilising towards Arthur (at least it is in the later seasons, after he's matured a bit), and second off, how cruel to continuously tell a man that his only importance is in what he does for another, another who can't know the truth, who would probably kill him/banish him/be angry with him if he found out who he was. I've just got... lots of feelings about Kilgharrah. Mainly angry ones. And when it all fails (OR, alternatively, when Kilgharrah gets what he wants, aka the Pendragons dead) he fucks off!! He abandons Merlin when he is the only thing Merlin has left of his kin and destiny. I understand his bitterness and arsehole-ry, I do, but I can't excuse it.

My feelings for Gaius are... similar, though not quite to this extent. I get that he was always worried about Merlin's safety, but the way he spoke about his magic sometimes, the way he made Merlin feel about his magic, just made me sad. And the fact that he never gives Merlin a break. He's worse than Arthur in that respect, because Gaius knows about all the destiny shit, he knows that Merlin has to look after Arthur in a manservant-y way, in a Warlock-y way, and do all of his other Physician's Apprenticeship work, AND anything else he's asked to do by anyone in the castle. The guy never gets a free hour, let alone a free day, and Gaius runs him ragged despite all of this. And I don't know, maybe it's cruel of me, but the idea of Gaius taking advantage of his friendship with the King to barter for his life as he watched his friends burn... rubs me up the wrong way. Why stay? The love of his life left, his friends either left or were executed, and he stays, and manages to actually like Uther, even if only a little. I can't comprehend that. Supporting the genocide of your own people with the flimsy excuse of "The man who orchestrated it all is a friend-ish of mine, and he's grieving for his wife, whom he accidentally killed" like what?? The fuck??? No. Not a fan. I do get that he was just trying his best, and that he really thought by instilling Merlin with terror he was helping, but he really wasn't. And the constant pressure that nothing about Merlin matters except what he is in relation to Arthur. How cruel can he be to such a young person, who relies on him and loves and trusts him and believes in him, to constantly be told that his worth nothing without a man who would see his head on a spike if ever found out who he is. Man. I have... emotions... about this.

On a lighter note... I couldn't tell you who my one favourite character is. When I think about Arthur too much, I swing between loving and hating him, BUT, I do think all the reasons I hate him (the way he treats Merlin and thinks of magic in the later seasons) are all down to writing, I think. They just kept re-setting his character development so they could keep the "keep the magic a secret" drama going, even if it didn't make sense to. Mostly I love him, but he isn't my favourite tooooo often, and I'm definitely aware of the fact that he's a HUGE arse most of the time. If I met him in passing, I'd punch him in the face, if I had long term, friendly exposure to him, I'd want to cuddle and mother him.

Percival and Lancelot have never been my favourites. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE them, but they've never been favourites just because they got a criminal amount of screen time. That is to say... barely any at all.

I ADORE Mordred and Gwaine and Elyan. I really just love them, they're so interesting and sweet and I wish all three of them had more eps, especially Elyan. Leon holds a special place in my heart and I literally couldn't tell you why. The crossbow scene. The poetry scene. I adore him. He's definitely at the top of the list the most often out of all the knights, though I think a lot of the reasons I love him (his relationships with Arthur and Merlin, his mama bear tendencies, him remembering before the purge and secretly liking magic) are more fandom than canon. But I'm not going to let that stop me :D

I love Morgana. I understand her and I sympathise with her, and though I may not like her as a person in the later seasons (sorry guys, I don't think slaughtering innocents indescriminently to gain power is a cool quirky thing, guess I'm just sexy like that), I still think she's an incredibly complicated and compelling character. I wish she and Mordred had got their redemptions though :(

Gwen!!!! I love her!!!! Honestly her and Merlin himself are at the top of my list of favourites like... most of the time. The way her character deteriorates in the later seasons makes me so sad because it was such a HUGE opportunity!! We should have seen her do Queen shit!! We should have seen her order knights around and take charge of the council!! WE SHOULD HAVE SEEN HER USING HER NEW STATUS TO HELP OUT MERLIN/OTHER SERVANTS!!! Do not tell me Arthur doesn't wake up at least once a week to find Merlin missing and Gwen saying "I used my Queenly powers to give him the day off. Deal with it, bitch.". I wish I'd seen her struggle more with the transition from servant to Queen. Like... she still wakes up at the crack of dawn and gets all restless because she feels like she should be doing something. She wouldn't let Arthur throw out all her old servant's clothes and wears them sometimes to potter around with Merlin to ground herself. She leaves banquets early and Merlin goes with her and they chat and catch up and cuddle like the besties they are. She has to like... stop herself from bowing to people, and she struggles with the fact that, other than Merlin, none of her old friends can really look her in the eye now (I mean I'd also LOVE a horror moment when The Gang realise something is deeply wrong with Merlin, and her going "When did my best friend start calling me My Lady?!").

As for Merlin. I just... love him. It's so rare that my favourite character is the main character but he so is. He's so complicated and compelling and wonderful. You can understand every decision he makes, the good and the bad, even if you don't agree with him you can look at his life and his fear and 100% agree that it was an understandable way for him to react. It may sound cruel, but I wish we'd seen more of his suffering, and I wish that OTHER characters had seen his suffering too. I wish we'd seen him get angry, and the others had had an opportunity to see him go batshit with his magic. I wish he'd got the apology he deserves form Arthur/the others, but I also wish we'd seen him... still coming to terms with that? Subconsciously holding back from doing magic in front of them long after the reveal, flinching anytime Arthur waves a sword in his vague direction, still feeling the need to lie and hide what he's up to even though he really doesn't have to anymore. Despite all the missed opportunity, he's still on a par with Gwen in terms on "favourite character", I just really love him, gang🥺✌

(As an aside, a hate Uther and everything about him, everything he says and does and stands for, but I actually LIVE for OOC Uther. Uther being nice?? And supportive??? Uther being protective of not only Arthur but Merlin as well?? My favourite trope in the ENTIRE fandom.)

Thanks for your response to the whitewashing fancast of shallan. I saw it and almost said something, but didn't. I think the biggest problem here is that people just dont realize she isn't white because she's described as pale compared to the alethi. I may have missed it when I read the books, but I dont remember any specific description of skin color or eye shape within the text itself. I had to go looking after I saw debates like this one. I found it pretty frustrating that this info wasn't just presented in the books. But again, I could have missed it.

yeah, you're not the only one at all! when i first started reading SA i also pictured a white chick, but for me it was the red hair and blue eyes that did it, but once i found out how sandman views her, i flipped that switch in my mind and i cannot even picture her as a white girl any more.

but there isn't a ton of explicit descriptors of characters in the books, especially with shallan. and that is a problem. i know people have talked about how much they want to write to brandon or make a petition telling him he needs to be more explicit when describing his characters for this very reason. there should be no room for doubt that these characters aren't white. we should get much more explicit things in the text, and art that dragonsteel promotes should also reflect that.

someone mentioned in an ask to another SA related blog that they thought of maybe bringing it up with the official team that the words of radiance cover should be updated for the leatherbound because kaladin is hella whitewashed and i agree! brandon and his team need to do a lot better when it comes to how they depict characters, and who they give licensing to, to do the same. artists like lama*ry do a bad job, and just reinforce the idea that some characters, like shallan, are white when they're not and the dragonsteel team doesn't do enough on their end to curb that.

ry’s notes: I really love Kunimi, he’s one of my favorite characters in Seijoh (even though all of them are my faves) and I really relate to him so much along with Kenma who’s just too lazy at some point. (edited)

Kunimi is one lazy guy. We all know that he hates the phrase “go all out.”

Being his best friend means you can’t drag him out of his house that easily. When you do he’ll mostly stay on his phone. He enjoys hanging out with you, but he much prefers hanging out at your house or his house and just lies on the couch and chill.

When he gives advice he would first insult you before giving one. When he knows you’re serious he would make an effort to actually give genuine and well thought advice.

Would be there to support you, not just physically. Because the boy loves his bed more than anything else. (jk he loves you more but doesn’t admit it)

You love to annoy him just to see his reaction. If he insults you, you insult him back. It’s how you both show your affection towards each other.

Both of you share with each other the weird and funny things you see on the internet, especially the struggle tweets.

“For the last time, no.” Kunimi said as you try to convince him to hang out at the mall after class. 

“Come on. I wanna watch the movie.” You tried again as you kept pulling his arm.

“Let’s wait for it to be online.” He reasoned out. 

“But that would take another year!” He grimaced, he knows that you’re not going to easily give up. You’ve been talking about this movie ever since it was announced and how you wanted to watch it in the cinema. It was a movie adaptation of one of the best selling books, you’ve checked out already and you were hooked.

“Fine.” He finally gave up and your face immediately lit up. “But I know this wouldn’t be worth it.”

Once the movie was done, so to say Kunimi was right. It wasn't worth it. 

“I told you so.” He said as he enjoys the look of disappointment on your face. You glared at him, hating the fact that he was right.

The movie did no justice on how the book portrayed the characters and some of the notable parts of the book got cut off on the movie.

“Next time, if I say so, you’ll gladly agree. Kunimi knows best.”

He’s a competitive guy and would not easily back down. 

Whenever you play games together he would get competitive and defeat you with all his might. If he loses a game he would want a rematch. He would also keep records of how many wins and loses he had with you. (let’s pretend that you crushed him a lot of times that’s why he’s salty)

You would sometimes have a debate of which one is better and which one is not — type of debates.

Down for anything. He won’t be the one asking to hang out, but if you did he would accompany you or immediately say yes. 

The only thing he would drag you is to watch a volleyball match with him or practice with him.

Ready to protect you like an older sibling.

When you’re sad he would buy you your comfort food and would stay with you until you feel alright. And once you are he would say that the food was not free (he’s only kidding tho to make you feel better)

“My server lagged. Let’s have a rematch!” Kindaichi said over the call you were having as you played a 1v1 match. 

You agreed and crushed him again and he would ask for another rematch. You defeated him countless times and you would comment on the number of wins you had just to rub it in his face. 

“Well it’s because I have club activities and you don’t, so I don’t have any time to play video games that much.” He made an excuse. 

“What was that? I can’t hear you. I only hear cries of a loser.” You poked his competitiveness and would sometimes make an unfair match. Like who could reach the ceiling on the corridor or even challenge you in volleyball.

You’d get in a debate on what’s better, coffee or milktea. You’ll both chat in all caps like you’re screaming at each other just to prove your point. Both of you wouldn’t give up and would drag Kunimi in the conversation.

The debate won’t end unless someone changes the subject and it’s Kunimi’s job to do that just to stop the both of you flooding his notifications so that he could enjoy watching a video.

𝗯𝗼𝗻𝘂𝘀 + 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝙥𝙤𝙙

You got yourself two personal bodyguards that would make fun of you.

When someone bullies you they are ready to protect you. Saying that they are the only one who has the right to bully you. On a serious note, they will really protect you at all cost. They know that you’re a tough person (surviving the friendship you have with the two made you tough because of all the insults they throw at you), but there’s still a limit to it. So if they know it’s getting out of hand, they’ll step in.

Love it when you bring them snacks during practices.

It isn’t a normal day if the three of you are not having a heated conversation over something, like the one with Kindaichi. Kunimi is tired of it.

Likes to rest their elbows or arms on your shoulder if you’re shorter than them and you would shove it away and kick them on the knees. 

You never walk in the corridors alone, if it’s not with the two of them, one would always be by your side. 

Lowkey terrified of you when you get mad.

You three were walking on the way to the gym when someone randomly insults you. Like the big person you are, you ignored them. It isn’t worth it to waste energy on people like them. It was all fine but then they decided to hit a sore topic and it made you stop.

Kunimi and Kindaichi sense your sudden change of attitude, before you could even do something Kunimi put a hand on your shoulders. “I never knew Seijoh lowered their standards to accept students like them.” He said it enough for them to hear it. 

Kindaichi would glare at them as he shields your back in order for you not to look. 

The third years were also on their way to the gym so they saw what happened. Since you were close with Kunimi and Kindaichi and watched them practice they got to know you too, they joined in protecting you and the third years being proud of them standing up for you. 

“We did it because if she’s the one who fought back, they might end up transferring to another school.” Kindaichi jokes.

“Or her getting suspended.” Kunimi added. You weren’t violent but your words hurt when you get fired up or angry.

“You know I was gonna thank you by treating you guys, but I changed my mind.”

8) Which character(s) do you find easiest to write?

I mean, the obvious answer is Riley, because she’s basically just me. The way she responds to situations is the way I respond to situations.

The other answer is Drake. He’s basically 90% of the guys I hang out with, so I vibe with him.

27) What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received?

Pretty much anytime @burnsoslow compliments how I write Drake. Most memorably, she said in a reblog once that I write him perfectly. That’s MAJOR coming from the top Drake Stan in our field.

31) Do you have any OCs? Tell us about them!

Does Riley count as an OC? Technically Pixelberry created her, but I have come to make her my own. She is the Queen of Cordonia, the wife of King Liam Rys, the mother of Crown Princess Eleanor Rys. She is a sweet soul who is kind to everyone she meets, until they give her a reason not to be. If you give her a reason, you’d better watch the fuck out. She is fiercely protective of her family (not just her blood/legal family, but the people she has chosen as her family), and will do whatever it takes to make sure they are safe and happy. She is a Queen because of her love for Liam, she would be just as happy if her family was crammed into her old apartment in New York, working 3 jobs a piece to make a living. She works very hard to make sure that her daughter is self sufficient and independent despite having a staff of people available 24/7 to meet her every whim, and also wants to make sure she has as many of the regular childhood experiences Riley had growing up, despite her position in life. It’s an extra bonus to watch Liam have those experiences, since his childhood was so sheltered.

I also have an OC in my Sapere Aude series, his name is Thomas. **SPOILERS AHEAD** He is a member of the King’s Guard, he is tasked directly with protecting Princess Eleanor. It is uncovered that he is actually Liam’s brother, he is aware of his relation to the King, Liam only just found out.

34) Copy and paste an excerpt you’re particularly fond of.

I selected an excerpt here, but I’ll give you another. This is from my one-shot, Quit Your Life. I like it because Pixelberry always had lots of times where MC would take the time to get to know Liam, but he never really seemed to ask too much about her. Not only does this show him wanting to get to know her, but it explores his desire to want to make sure she is happy and comfortable in Cordonia, but it shows him starting to picture a life with her.

He noticed the pizza box and other containers spread out on the coffee table. “You ordered takeout?”

“Yea, what a pain in the ass trying to get food delivered to the palace! First it took me 15 minutes to convince the guy at the pizza place that it wasn’t a prank call. Then there’s the whole getting the delivery guy through security thing.” She plopped onto the couch, patting the seat beside her.

“I tried not to, maybe once or twice a week. I love cooking, so I would usually just whip something up for myself.”

Liam imagined entering the Royal quarters at the end of the day to find Riley in the kitchen making dinner, their children playing in the next room. Then they would all gather together at the table for dinner. A real family, we would laugh, and joke, and share stories from our day. His heart started speeding up again.

“What’s your favorite dish to cook?” He was trying desperately to keep his cool, all he wanted to do was to pull her into his arms and kiss her. Every second he spent with her, he could feel himself falling deeper.

Riley sighed and smiled to herself. “Nothing fancy, pretty much any of my grandmother’s old recipes.”

“I would love to try them sometime.” He casually draped his arm over the back of the couch. Riley smiled and leaned into him slightly.

This is such a basic question lmao but what are your top 5 choices books? And your LI from each book?

Oof this was harder than I thought (and so not basic lol) and I unfortunately always subject to change lololololol. This also isn’t in any particular order because that would have been TOO hard. 

Perfect Match - OMG. WHAT A SERIES. This is the book that I’ll always say we deserved another of, but I know we won’t get. It’s clear that the writers never anticipated the way the story went when they wrote about robots and a matchmaking agency but it’s still just such a good fun journey. It also gave up one of the rawest lines in choices history. LI: DAMIEN ELVIS NAZARIO. A man. A king among kings. We will literally never see his like again. So funny and sweet and sarcastic and CAPABLE and also flawed too. All my love to his diamond scene in Book 1, Chapter 13. 

Endless Summer - yes the intricacies of the plot were...a lot, but what a fun, gorgeous little sci-fi adventure! Still some of the most interesting game mechanics we’ve gotten from PB and an excellent cast of characters. And those endings? Ugh, I miss it. LI: Jake McKenzie (i know, a shock. I’ll go to the end of the earth for that snarky pilot) 

Actually, I’m putting the rest under the cut bc I went crazy here. 

Mother of the Year - this one is crazy bc by all rights it should have been boring but it’s incredible. Such an amazing relatable MC, and the daughter is so great and well written too. Just tight writing and it does a reasonably good job of giving the LIs their own interests and motivations and lives outside of the MC without giving you whiplash. LI: LEVI SCHULER. WHAT A MAN OMG. HOWWWW do you not fall in love. WHEW, gimme a minute. 

A Courtesan of Rome - I probably like this one bc its also more on the mature side, which I generally prefer in my fiction (just a person preference). I always say that Syphax is endgame, and he was, but I tapped every Antony option on the way there. THAT relationship is one of the most well craft in choices history. Also, not to be rude, but (TO ME) it took PB a very long time to figure out how to draw black people, but men, in particular, who weren’t copy pasted from celeb faces and anyway, they finally like really nailed it with Syphax. LI: Syphax and Marc Antony.

Blades of Light and Shadow - THIS RIGHT HERE. I’ll be interested to see how the sequel goes but it’s classic high fantasy adventure with really compelling lore and I just love it A LOT. A LOT. Plus it’s just well done and clearly invested in, in terms of art elements, writing time, coding, etc. LI: Mal Volari. What a babe. Tyril might sneak in there though idk. 

I’m giving myself four honorable mentions slots and those go to: 

It Lives Beneath - This is actually my favorite ending in ALL of the choices books. So cinematic. 

Ride or Die - My second favorite ending, also just incredibly well written, so much depth to these characters and this could easily switch places with Blades and might if you ask me tomorrow. 

The Crown and the Flame - the only one of the OG girls who would make this list. Kenna Rys, we stan forever. And Raydan Lykel -- still yes, absolutely.

Bloodbound - I love vampire content always and forever. Lily is my queen and Kamilah Sayeed makes me stupid, I love her, she is my wife. eternally.

So @tvaofficial has been posting a lot of codes and TVA memos with redacted info lately, which is epic. Well, @agentsofshieldabc is in on this too.

Now, @agentsofshieldabc is the official tumblr of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I think. There also is @agentsofshield that has been much more active, but it does not have the link to the privacy policy page for Disney ran accounts. I double checked this because it wouldn’t be too surprising if there was a fan account with that url. It would appear @agentsofshieldabc is the official account and @agentsofshield is a fan account. @tvaofficial is an official account (it has the privacy policy page). We are dealing with official accounts ran by the powers that be at Marvel/Disney. So this isn’t some weird thing a couple of fans are doing.

@agentsofshieldabc does not post a lot. Seriously, I scrolled through their posts, trying to see if there was anything else like this. The last post they have related to AoS is advertising the season 2 finale. That came out in 2015. So the account hasn’t been active for most of the time the show was running. And now they are posting.

Yo! What is that about? From what I can tell, S.A.S.S. is an acronym for Special Administrative Support Services, and refers to the people in charge of @agentsofshieldabc. The idea is that they are a task force of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents that run the S.H.I.E.L.D. social media platforms or something along those lines. I’m not sure, these are year old posts I’m looking at, I wasn’t there when this was happening and it was a thing. 

ANYWAY.

“Time Variance Detected.” Well, isn’t that the whole thing behind Loki? The protagonist is a Loki variant. So perhaps this variance is meant to refer to Alternate2012!Loki, or any other variance, really. Or anything AoS related? There is a lot of time travel in AoS, and shouldn’t Deke Shaw be considered a variant? Or something similar? I have a couple episodes of s5 left to watch, but knowing how narratives work, they’re gonna stop Talbot and save the world, branching out into a new timeline? 

This also could potentially mean the Agents of S.A.S.S. (moderators of @agentsofshieldabc) are running @tvaofficial I guess.

Do y’all realize how big this is?

@agentsofshieldabc is in on @tvaofficial ‘s coding! They know the code! Or at least how to respond to this one message! Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Loki might be connected! A surprisingly large amount of people have been wanting a connection. I mean, Loki and Coulson have a surprisingly large amount in common, both series involved time travel (allowing an easy connection), the TVA probably really hates S.H.I.E.L.D. b/c of the stuff they get into in later seasons, and it would be really funny if Coulson and Loki met again, especially since this Loki had just barely killed Coulson. 

From what I understand, most of @tvaofficial ‘s posts are nonsensical. We can’t make any sense of them other than this one (I think. There are A LOT of posts coming from @tvaofficial and I can’t possibly look at each and every one of them with my schedule. There may be more that can be translated). But this exchange can be translated.

“Your signal is weak.” The TVA and S.H.I.E.L.D. communicating? Is that what’s happening? Is this set up for canon, or is this just to mess with us all? Will @agentsofshieldabc continue replying to @tvaofficial ? I just signed up to get notifications when @agentsofshieldabc posts, so I will know if they respond to anymore of @tvaofficial ‘s posts. I didn’t scroll through all of @tvaofficial b/c that is a lot, but I think @agentsofshieldabc is the only account they have interacted with. Many Loki stans have tried to respond to the TVA, but they only are responding to @agentsofshieldabc so far. 

Again, thank you to @kylara for the translation. And thank you to the many others that are decoding the TVA’s signals! This is most definitely not a skill set I have. I would never have guessed this would be base 64 or anything like that. I kind of get the concept of bases, but not enough to guess this was base 64. 

Let’s hope there is an actual connection to both series! I haven’t finished the series (I have two episodes left of s5) but I’ve been told s6 and s7 are about time travel, and s5 has a fair amount of time travel as well. So there is that connection already with Loki. I don’t know how the series ends, but it may hold the key to all of this. And, gosh, I would kill for Coulson to be in the main MCU, and for all the other characters to be as well.

1x08 - Seventeen Candles

It took me longer than intended (again) but here’s the recap for this episode, which is another of my all time faves. 

Once again posting under a break because this got way too long. 

Thoughts I had while watching the episode:

The start of this episode is hilarious. There’s being melodramatic, and then there’s Blair Waldorf, guess that’s what happens when one surrenders their virtue to a self absorbed ass. 

Seriously the way she describes the whole thing to the priest is so funny. Also 20 minutes? wow girl. Thank god he’s a total pig who will act as if it never happened... yeah

Vanessa? Serena. To be honest I wouldn’t put it past him

One wants to be open minded and be kinder and objective with characters I hated the first time around, but God Vanessa is so annoying

Blair coming out of the church, exchanging her little facinator for those glasses, “one week of danger” playing in the background is just one of those scenes that really got stuck in my mind, girl’s killing it

“Would you consider avoiding me over breakfast?” this is so one of my fave scenes of them, it sets the mood so much. 

Nate’s parents are so patronizing 

Remember when mp3 players were a thing?... somethings never change though, like parents having to deal with teens isolating themselves via earphones.

I still don’t like the Vanderbilt Ring, also llike “im not asking you to get engaged son, but please give your girlfriend this engament ring” and the way Anne say’s it, Nate’s mom is such a pro at emotional blackmail.

Blair jumping around in her room, thanking God because her boyfriend bought the diamond necklace, aww. Also this is so relatable, the jumping around obviously, not the diamonds.

I sort of have a soft spot for Chuck standing akwardly behind the door not knowing how to deal with his best friend..,this is such a disaster waiting to happen and I’m loving it

Smooth Chuc, hiding the little gift back before Nate notices it (gotta confess I didn’t notice he did this the first time around, oh the pleasures of a rewatch)

Typical, your best friend that never pays attention for once is catching up on the little facts, like you shouldn’t know he broke up with his girlfriend

Though... If the town car was waiting for Nate to take him to Victrola, and it’s Blair the one that ends up using, shouldn’t have Nate realized that Blair and Chuck saw each other last ninght

The good old days when Chuck cared only about three things “Money, the pleasures money gave him, and Nate”, and even then when he’s saying it, is already kind of a lie.

He may have his own agenda, but yeah regardless Nate did needed to put a stop with his parents 

She’s been in like three episodes and she already has invated herself to like two UES parties already, wow Vanessa.

“you wish, no you wish” and then the butterflies!!!!! This is a scene that admitedly I’ve seen more than once already and I love it every time. Chuck’s a delight here.

The real first of one of those shared moments of Jenny and Nate... the fist tase I would said.

“Blair about Vanessa being like This is such a problem” you don’t know the half of it.

That little wage was so pointless, as if Chuck would have left Blair alone.

Watching them play guitar hero is making me so nostalgic.

“You didn’t tell her?” she may say it wiht a smile and innocent eyes, but no Vanessa, I don’t buy it, and it was bitchy.

You get grosser by the minute, and you get older” :’) also, that’s a really pretty cake.

Happy Birthday B! What a bitch

Seriously how pretty is that necklace. Also I’ve never really thought it but Blair probably wore that dress (which I love) and her hair up because her previous call to the jeweler.

Serena’s face in the end is prceless is just like “oh god no, what a mess”

I missed Lily

Honestly 1x07&1x08 are some of my favorite episodes in the whole series. And this rewatch hasn’t changed that. While 1x07 is in some ways the turning point of the show, this is the first episode that Chuck and Blair are one of the main plots, and since the start it doesn’t dissapoints.

One of the things I love about this episode is how teenage-ry it feels. The focus of the episode is typical teenage drama: break ups, hook ups, a bit of jelousy between the girlfriend and the best friend. Made me a tad nostalgic, and much more interested in the storylines involving the young cast. In part because I honestly don’t care about the Humphrey family drama, and by this point is obvious how shitty Nate’s parents are. Also there was no rufly which I’ve enjoyed a lot the past few episodes.

So, this episode is the one where the little animosity between Serena and Vanessa comes to an end, and it just shows that in the end Serena is very understanding and also really friendly, I do like that it never actually evolves into a catfight, seriously is a shame to see girls fight for a guy, worse if the guy is Dan Humphrey. There was also Nate and Jenny, which I enjoyed because this was the first real tease of what could be between them... it’s also the moment where Nate finally decides that the best for him and Blait is to break up, so far my main issue with Nate is that he lacked the nerve to really do what he needed to do, from breaking up with Blair to standing up to his parents, he does both this episode. Finally

Obviously Chuck and Blair were my favorite part or the episode. Lowkey is a very telling episode about how they see each other, and their eventual dynamic.

One side there’s Blair. Beyond how hilarious it is to see her confessing at church after sleeping with Chuck Bass, one line in her tirade is quite interesting: “he’s a pig who will act like it never happened”. If one thinks about what we been showed of Chuck so far this is in many ways a very logical conclussion. To Blair’s surprise he does no such thing: he seeks her out for breakfest and it’s clearly no interested in pretending it never happened, he’s actually embracing it, Blair wants to go back to how things were before; the only life she knows

Sure last night she realized that her relationship with Nate had reached it’s end, and that there was much relief in that because in many ways her failing relationship with Nate was a constant reminder of all her insecurities, and that relief led her to just be and do whatever, and what she did well that wasn’t on the plan at all. “No one of my friends would understand” and I guess in a way she doesn’t understand her impulses either, and Blair doesn’t deal well with change, and so she goes into denial mode, and that means gaining her boyfriend back.

And so the episode goes and we see her on and on trying to grasp to her Nate once more, and Chuck is constantly there telling her basically two things: 1) let’s do it again because what happened yesterday won’t leave my mind, and that’s weird and 2) accept reality, in this case you and Nate are done. She stubornly holds to her ideas until everything crashes around her, and once it does Chuck’s still there, and she finally sees him, listens and gives in. And just like the song last episode in retrospective is almost a preview of how their relationship is going to play out, their behavior this episode is also a preview of what ends up being a predominant dynamic their whole relationship, the details and circunstances are going to vary, but Blair’s going to hold with eveything she has to what she believes her life should be, the script she wants that it’s probably best without Chuck and him trying to prove her wrong and that best option is them.

Whereas Blair’s actions are consisten to what we know of her so far, Chuck’s actions doesn’t. So far he’s been a giant asshole to all the female population, a self absorbed womanizer who once he got wanted is like “thank u, next”. Sure he and Blair are close friends but still, to him sex is just sex and she knows how he is, that’s why he asked her if she was sure. That’s what we know and what we could have expected of him. Instead he seeks her out, and when he rejects him, he still doesn’t hesitate her and he goes out a buy hers the gift she’s expecting from her boyfriend. Who happens to be his best friend

From the episode where Nate gets tricked by Carter we learned how loyal Chuck is to Nate and that their friendship is really important to him. And yet he doesn’t hesite to try to stir him far far away from Blair, sure the advices he gives him is good for Nate but he says more in the vain of keeping Blair single rather than in Nate’s best interest. Chuck schemes,we know but up until now it was hard to picture him scheming against him.

The more interesting bit for me is however the first scene between him and Blair at the balcony; not only because it points to the fact that these characters are equals “you forget who you’re talking to, so do you” but mainly because of the answer he gives when Blair ask him if he likes her, he doesn’t denies it he even admits to having butterfies and sure he claims he is ashamed and suprised by it even bactracks a little but it’s a very quick admission anyway, and it makes me wonder the why of it. Why is he so eager to explore this? It’s not his style and if he wanted only sex he knows he could achieved that easily some where else

It’s obvious they had chemistry between them, and that in itself may be a good reason, but to me it’s probably because on some subconcious level he liked her even before this. It’s not that I picture him pining for her in the background for her waiting sadly for the day she dumped Nate, more like he was lowkey always fascinated by her, on the earlier episodes there is more than one shot of him in the background watching her closesly, with a knowing smirk and amused by whatever she did.

So there’s this girl he finds interesting, extremely atractive, and also a close friend that he gets along really well to the point of being the one he takes to see his first business venture, and know she’s unattached and he also enjoyed quite a lot having sex with her, and for the first time he really stops to think about it and it’s quite obvious there was something there, fluttering, he’s just noticing it now because he can.

That scene where he gaves her the necklace he has being somewhat in smarmy mode before but when he see she’s hurt he tries to make her happy and as honest as he can be, last episode when it was just a dare between friends he tells her she’s ten times hotter than the dances, this episode he says “something this beautiful deserves to be seen on someone worthy of it’s beauty” the diference in sentiment is amazing because now there’s feeling behind it, and it’s such an honest and tender moment, this is the moment when the posibilty of Chuck and Blair finally takes root in both their minds (also that shoulder kiss is one of my favorite details ever through the show)

For the longest time I didn’t believe he felt something for her pre limo, but the more I think about it especially the way things happen later, for him to be that into her since the first moment and how it hit him when things went wrong it had to be because it was something he had felt in some way for a time, he’s not surprised because he felt something for the first time, I think he’s surprised by how much and because he quite can’t believe it’s a possibilty, this something he never dared to really think about.

i am absolute the untamed trash, though on the female characters front they are very weak. i love all the girls in theory, but i feel like they were never properly fleshed out and don’t feel quite real to me, only being relevant in relation to the men surrounding them (and killing them all off doesn’t really help either). but mianmian absolutely owns my heart and i guess she also forms the exception in this show. she has her own voice, she stands up for what she believes in and gains her independence in the end. also i am crushing hard on her, wish i could move with her into a small cottage and just tend to our garden while she goes night hunting

i binged all three seasons of broadchurch in three days last year and let me tell you, it was truly a ride. everyone feels so real in this show, and i especially adore the relationship between ellie miller and alec hardy. i love the platonic friendship so much and appreciate it a ton. sigh i miss this show, its vibes were impeccable and it was wonderfully heartbreaking

i have to admit i have not yet finished all seasons, i stopped after season 2 and somehow lost it from my view. it actually took some time warming up to claire in the first few episodes, but at some point i was dragged into the whole story. i feel very ambivalent about her but i think this also makes for a great character, and after two seasons, she grew on me. if i would rewatch it now, i am not sure if i would still like her, or what my opinion is, but i am definitely attached to her and this show

A rant on Sherlock Holmes, Romance, and the Expectations of Fiction

*Sigh*

I fear that I have come across yet another book that insists on turning Sherlock Holmes into a love interest.

Now, I'm only a quarter of the way through and it isn't clear if Holmes will reciprocate, but the lady character is annoying enough because she has very suddenly come down with a crush on the detective, after having shown no interest before.

This literally came out of nowhere in a book that has done amazingly well at characterization of both Holmes and Watson while also playing with other characters from classic stories, and having well developed women characters who do not suddenly get crushes because a guy is paying attention to another woman for 30 seconds. And, this book, like so many, has enough going on without a lovesick sub plot. But I will get to that when I review that one.

This seems like a good as time as any to vent my spleen about  using Holmes as a romantic figure.

First, the brilliantly disguised elephant in the room: The Late Miss Adler.

I lothe when Irene Adler is made out to be a love interest, I have yet to see an interpretation where it doesn't come off as awkward.  Maybe I’m in the minority here, but I never saw Holmes’s admiration of Adler as being romantic or sexual in nature. He admired her as an equal; equal in cunning, equal in intelligence. She fooled him and he respected that. That is why he refered to her as The Woman he didn’t even see Watson as a full equal and he sure didn’t feel that any woman could be his equal in anything he thought of as important.

I also don't get why she is depicted as having a similar personality to Holmes. In A Scandal in Bohemia, Adler is using an incriminating picture as insurance against a royal, yes, but in the end she assured Holmes that all she really wanted was to keep herself safe from any action the King of Bohemia might take against her, it is implied that she had real romantic feelings for the King at one time as she felt "cruelly wronged" by him, but will not use the photo against him.  This is a woman with a brain, but she has a warmth to her that Holmes rarely has. Adler simply played chess with the master and won, she's not another Holmes.

It drives me crazy that modern writers can't fathom Holmes without a romantic relationship. I mean, how on Earth can you make a love story with a guy who does cocaine when he's bored? Keep in mind that without a case he's always bored!

He never showed any interest in any connection like that in the source material and this wasn't Victorian repression at work because Watson had his relationship with Mary, A Study in Scarlett had a love story in it. Clearly, matters of the heart were not taboo for Doyle.

I would totally go for the Holmes and Watson as a couple acting as two friends living together if it weren't for the fact that there is no subtext for this.

As genius as he is Holmes only devotes headspace to what helps with his work. Watson had to tell him that the earth revolves around the sun. He didn't know this basic fact because he doesn't need to know it to do what he does, so who cares?

With the exception of his violin and drugs, everything is focused on cases. And what do those two things have in common with his work? He can pursue them in his own way and no one will question him.

He has a lot of freedom when working with Scotland Yard because his methods get results, he plays the violin for himself, the drugs  occupy his mind when cases are sparce.

This is not a person who would have the desire to start and maintain any sort of relationship.

Watson is the exception because he lets Holmes be Holmes. He doesn't like that he does drugs, he may question and be concerned over behavior but in the end, he knows that he will do what he will do and he's learned not to take much of his behavior personally.

But his behavior in a romantic relationship? I just don't see it, not in a literary sense anyway, which is really all I can speak to.

I maybe aro ace but I know a decent love story when I read one and Holmes wouldn't fit into one. To be Holmes he would be a crappy partner, or the relationship would have to change him into someone who isn't the character we love.

I'm not saying that Doyle was making some sort of statement in making Holmes the way he his, I'm saying he wanted to make a single minded brilliant detective who solved mysteries and had adventures. Love never factored in because that's not what the stories are about.

Popular culture is so saturated with romantic and sexual love being the ultimate goal, we think that all stories need a romance to be interesting and to follow a character through multiple stories means following them through relationships.

Never mind if it fits the story, it just has to be there. Somewhere along the line it was decided that for a character to be interesting, for a story to hold interest, the main character had to have a love interest, to make them "relatable".

Let's forget the inharant dehumanization of people who do not have or may not want romantic relationships in this line of thinking, for the moment.

Doyle wrote multiple stories with Holmes as the central character, but he never intended for him to be relatable, that's what Watson is for. Holmes isn't meant to be the every man. He's meant to be a singular personality the world's only consulting detective.

He also wrote all of these stories without Holmes having a love interest, and people still read them. The very fact that these modern writers who take Sherlock Holmes and reimagine him, but either shoehorn in an element that doesn't fit, or change the character to make him fit what they think sells is, in my opinion, insulting.

Holmes and Watson, as Doyle made them orginated in the 19th century. In the 21st century, they are still well known and loved enough to inspire movies, TV shows and various books. And some of these writers think that they can improve the character by making the man who will allow his closest friend to think he's dead, fall in love? Seriously, other than acting for the sake of a case, can anyone imagine Holmes sincerely courting anyone? And then for the modern set retellings. Picture Holmes on a date.

"Good evening, darling. Have I told you about my recent insights into the categorizing of ash? You may be interested since I can see that you have recently started smoking again.

How do I know? Oh, the tell tale smell under the purfume is evident, but could be explained by spending time with someone who is a heavy smoker. However, add that I observed you looking around for an outdoor ashtray when you got out of the cab. There is also the matter of you glancing at your watch to see when leaving to have a cigarette will not seem rude. You also seem to have the tense energy of one who has reintroduced a stimulate that has been long out of the body. What? Don't be rediculous, logically speaking, I cannot be the reason you smoke."

Add to his habit of shooting at walls, anyone in a relationship with him would be half tempted to brain him and call it self defense.

I can hear you say, but what about Watson?

Holmes and Watson are unboutly the most important relationships in either's life, they are more like friends or brothers. Because Holmes doesn't need anything else and Watson, sucks at it a little bit.

All of this is to say: Holmes doesn't need to focus on romance in his stories, there is no reason to force him to in others!

It had grown dark, again.

[[ TW: blood. gore insinuation. death. ]] i don’t usually outright write stories for my characters, preferring instead to RP them out live, but i wanted to sit down and get a feel for how my newest one really came to be! 

Jeremiah [ REDACTED; Forsaken name Molargnash ], DDS, is an attempted escapee from Stratholme. as you can expect, it doesn’t go so well for him and those trapped in his office. this time period is roughly a week after arthas went on his purge. some survivors remained holed up in the burning buildings; especially the second floors, where the damage wasn’t so bad. this is also right about when the scarlet crusade originally show up! and they’re awful! the scourge was going square by square to weed out the living, of course, but they hadn’t quite gotten to Gold Cap Dentistry - Jeremiah’s offices. ]]

It had grown dark, again. 

Or - had it, truly? The ever-burning pitch of the city's fires blocked out the sun itself, giving no credence to it ever rising again, or so the dentist thought. His motion to very, very, ve-ry slowly pull apart a fraction of an inch of the makeshift towel curtain covering the office window had taken minutes, but it felt to the group sequestered behind him like it had taken hours.

Jeremiah very, very, ve-ry slowly moved the three layers of blacked-out towels back into place and released his pinched hold on them, eventually blinking back the shade that took hold when the office became readjusted to the darkness; what wasn't lit by the scant tealights they had remaining, anyway. 

Pine. Of all things, the pine had helped to block out the heavy stench of wet iron. He would have to thank his receptionist later; what was left of her, anyway; her frantic attempt to escape instead of barricading the door left her on the other side, and the horrific screams elicited from the blocked entrance still haunted him when it was quieter than most nights --

Crick. 

His neck cracked; an errant twitch, a physical reminder to stay grounded - stay in the present. How many were still with him - three, five, seven. Seven. Count to yourself, Jeremiah, he instructed, six and a half sets of eyes trained on him and his crimson-stained apron. An eye had been frantically gouged by a Scourge claw from one of the survivors; he was lucky to have survived, pulled back into the smashed window frame, the very same one now nailed shut with scraps pulled from the reception table and blacked out with towels. His office was the higher of a second story, and when the madness began, he thought he and his charges safe - nobody knew the ghouls could make piles, make body ladders, scramble upon themselves to reach their targets in desperation. It wasn't intelligence. It was raw, seething hunger; an innate desire to feed. A swiped claw here, an arrogantly un-barricaded window there, and one of Jeremiah's charges was left right-eyeless while glancing through a now-barricaded, formerly glass window pane. It was a mistake that wouldn’t happen again.

Crick.

He paused, and allowed his voice to rise above a faint whisper. "We have. A small time frame," murmured the man, gesturing slowly to the stairs downward; the flight of which had, along with the window frame, been nailed closed - but not fully; portions of heavy office furniture were slid in front of the remainder of the stairwell's entrance, enough to pile upon in case of another Scourge rush, but not so heavy that it could not be unreasonably moved in time for another food run, or, in this case, escape attempt. Being the second most successful dentist in Stratholme had its perks; purchasing high quality - and heavy, solid - office furniture for guests to recline on while waiting for their appointment was one of them. They served well, being used as the barricade’s backbone, or discreetly broken apart for miniature cooking fires within the confines of the office’s hearth. But the time for cooking had long passed. Food had run out; the areas of safety that anyone felt comfortable attempting to brave to bring back edibles had exhausted themselves of supplies.

Jeremiah tapped at his forehead, then gestured over his back, as if he were slinging a pack onto it, and the six and a half pairs of eyes lit up in understanding of a signal for which they had waited days. 

A break for it in the roaring silence of the city.

Crick. 

Stay grounded. We won't lose another. It was. A mistake.

The sofa and love seat were pushed aside, slowly, pain-fu-lly. A chore which would ordinarily take minutes took five times the length, with the strongest among them carefully lifting and setting the barricade aside for the entire group to fit through, but not make sliding, scratching or screeching noise to attract a pack of monstrosities Jeremiah did not believe were capable of existing.

One by one, the office's occupants crept down the stairs, him giving guidance to avoid known spots of loose or creaky wood - jokes before by the dentist to have his receptionist or hygienist repair them for him, but now, echoing reminders of a life that was far from over for the lot of those traversing them. 

And then - a stifled cry, as if fingers had been shoved into their mouth in surprise.

Figures froze in place, their hands either grasping the shoulders of those in front, as previously instructed in drills, or clutching their bags to not trail on the ground. All - but one. A small child, who had, to this point, been exorbitantly lucky; not a shriek, or cry, or any semblance of emotion that might have given the office's survivors away. It was hard to cry about anything if you can't cry about your mother being dragged away by ghouls, Jeremiah succinctly supposed, in the eternity of silence that followed. The child lifted her trembling foot; a nail, protruding from the wooden stairs, had found itself caught in her sole. Once removed, the wound was bubbling up with blood.

Jeremiah's lips pursed together, sucked inward, lost in thought. Could the undead smell blood? Could they already know their next meal was delivering itself into the streets? What now? Do they retreat back up the stairs and miss their chance? There were humanoid voices earlier in the morning. Aid had perhaps come, and to stay inside risked missing it. The six and a half pairs of eyes swiveled towards their de facto leader, who, after another --

Crick.

-- gestured they keep moving; scooping the child himself in his arms after maneuvering his prized tool bag to be tied to his leg, in lieu of being draped over his chest. Their time frame had drastically shrunk. Gold Cap Dentistry was located within the inside of the Crusader's Square; as far from the main gates as possible. The chance of running into the fetid ones, or worse, the mad Prince’s remnants was already exponentially high; to carry what was a high-grade living lure into a war zone of plagued corpses put a target on the dentist's back that he was all too aware of owning.

His downstairs neighbor was no different; allegedly murdered by the maddened man’s own warhammer. She had brought him a basket of her goods, trying to get the attention of the Crown for advertising’s sake, and to show her love for the house Menethil’s reign, prosperous as it was. He would mourn her, as he would his receptionist - she was just a kind woman who ran a pastry shop. The juxtaposition of the upstairs and downstairs offices was never lost on the two. He would tease her to brush and floss; she would tease him to relax and eat a muffin; the entire office would tease their relations, while he rolled his eyes and she retreated to the safety of her kitchen, cheeks flushed.

Often, Jeremiah would arrive in the morning to the scent of freshly baked bread; the same wicker basket, sitting on his receptionist’s desk, addressed to him - knowing he would never touch any of the sweetened muffins that were offered. Smiling, he would kindly offer them to his receptionist instead, turning down the heavy whole grains in favor of his morning constitution of fruit and dried meats. Builds good gums, he’d lecture, while she shook her head, dull-eyed and chewing.

The receptionist had eaten the grain that morning, while Jeremiah hadn’t. Her screams as she was left outside had slowly devolved into a writhing gurgle, then silence - and the shuffling of a shambling figure, nails dragging across the wood of the door from which she’d been blocked from entering.

Crick.

A sudden thought occurred. He couldn’t even remember the baker’s name. He’d never even thought to ask.

Making it down the stairs was the easy part; blockade after blockade for the storefronts of the Square were already torn down by the rampaging Scourge, who had rummaged and ransacked the living's quarters in the days following Arthas' inordinate and inexplicable attack on his own people. Jeremiah had no time to devote to the musings of the madness of royalty; he refused to give the crown prince or the rumors that flooded his appearance in the city any thought. 

Gold Cap Dentistry was located far back near the Cathedral; much too far to see anything that had allegedly occurred first-hand. The only good news was that the sudden wave and appearance of the Scourged corpses gave him enough time to prepare his offices and save who he could; those with him and now making their escape had been all he could account for among the living, at least in this Square. Their faces were haggard, hungry and blood-spattered, but Jeremiah did not let them eat the off-colored bread that had been left downstairs and quickly gathered while they retreated up the flight to Gold Cap; not for some kind of sixth sense for plague-infested grains, but that it was already blood soaked from prior evacuees’ attempts to flee with it. Angry faces stayed silent; discourse and discord was rising quickly. Now that they were out of his office, who said he was in charge? Nevertheless, the group continued on, carefully picking around shattered glass and sharded metal, splintered wood and smoldering coal, exiting the remains of Gold Cap Dentistry and -- with a forlorn look, Jeremiah looked back at the dual sign hanging beneath his for the baker’s name; her sign was already torn from its moorings, a single, lonely chain dangling beneath an ornately carved cedarwood tooth. It, too, was spattered with a mist of fresh blood.

Jeremiah and the others took each step carefully to avoid making noise above the din of the crackling fires that still plagued the city like the undead that haunted every corner. Packs of ghouls cast shadows on the half-boarded windows, and once-comforting buildings were bastions of unliving traps. He gestured with his free hand for the group to follow and then exit before him at each juncture, once the coast was cleared. They were very nearly free of the Square itself when --

Humanoid voices. Commanding - strong - intimidating - they were here to help! “HEY!” cried one of the older men, dropping pretense and hobbling towards the sound - turning back towards the Cathedral in lieu of the direction of the gates. “HEY! WE’RE OVER HERE! HELP US!” Jeremiah hissed a “--no!” but just as quickly as he had broken away from the group, the man was swarmed; not by anything corporeal, of course. 

That would be too kind. 

THE LIVING ARE HERE.

Jeremiah covered the eyes of the girl he held, crouching down and clutching her close to his chest - no child needed to see what was being done to the deserter. Carried away and lifted up as if on high, one might assume that the man was being escorted by a Light-bound host to freedom, away from this hellish place, his arms spread wide and form bound outwards by the claws and clutches of a half-dozen spirits, their rakish claws all too tangible. It didn’t take long at all for the shrieks to stop, and for sprays of blood to hit the bricks of a shadowed storefront.

A ghoul shambled from the shadows with a shattered leg; almost as it were the carrion of the unliving, it began nonchalantly feasting on the ribbon-sliced remains.

Crick.

Jeremiah had no choice - the death-wails of the man had attracted undoubtedly more packs of ghouls, and he had to lead his group to the sounds of human voices, undoubtedly near the Cathedral. He tried to shout back at them, but his voice was shot from a week onward of not speaking aloud; instead, leading by example in charging towards the holy area, the child still firmly kept in his arms.

A hooded figure - red? So much red - was the first to see him. Armored and bedecked in raiments of flame. Jeremiah was never so happy to see anyone, or anything, in his life. He continued his exhausted run towards the now-group of crimson-clad men and women, some of which were holding weapons and armor. No doubt sent from the church to help. Jeremiah thanked the Light, then tried to shout again.

“THANK THE LI -- “

CRACK.

Darkness, and bewilderment.

The red-clad men - living - they were his own -- ?

Men? Not -- not ghouls? Why would -- 

“Filth! All Scourge will be purged from this world by the hand of the Crusade!”

A crimson and gold inlaid shield had cracked against the side of the dentist’s head, slammed into his unarmored, non-weapon-bearing body, its paint now glistening in several bonfires that had been lit near the entryway to the place of worship having brought him back to cognizance. The child in his grip had gone sprawling, and was now backed up against a crate with what was Jeremiah’s hazy, confused guess as to a bound water elemental, keeping its liquid fist pointed square between her eyes. 

Jeremiah forced his head to turn to the side. The normal nervous twitch that befell his neck was instead wet and spongy; what he could feel of his body was cold, and wet -- why couldn’t he speak? No - they weren’t Scourge - they were living! They were trying to escape, too!

A nearby similarly clothed magus, bearing a warped sigil of Faol on her chest, kept her staff and its glowing foci trained on the group of Jeremiah’s survivors, forcing them as sheep huddled near the entryway to the grand Cathedral’s courtyard. 

An incantation was angrily shouted by the magi; blacked out and hazy as the dentist’s state of mind was, he could hardly make out the screaming and pleading as what sounded like glass cracking and hail slamming into stone drowned out their voices. A rain of sharpened ice had been ripped into being and was puncturing the bodies of those he’d promised to protect; they collapsed, like rag dolls, on top of one another.

He couldn’t bear to see what happened to the child.

“Nuh -- “

The shield was lifted, again; a grim grimace from the helmeted figure bearing it. 

One last crunch. And then silence.

How do you think the GA will respond to s8, assuming dany doesn't end up on the iron throne. Most people support her on the throne and if political jon theory ends up being true, I can imagine a lot of people responding that dany not ending up on the throne and getting used by Jon is anti-feminist and showrunner fanfic. I'm not looking forward to the response of the GA bc even if season 8 ends up being wellwritten and does sansa's character justice, the GA will just make it all about dany...

I'm not sure about that. In my experience casual viewers are far less invested in Da€nerys when her stans want us to believe. From all the Jonsa theories I share with casual viewers I meet DarkDany is always the one theory they immediately buy. Their eyes light up and they say 'yes, this would be so ecciting'. They immediately get it. I've yet to meet a casual viewer even some that like Da€nerys who was not excited and actually immediately convinced. That ties in with my gut feeling that Da€nerys is one of the characters that was transformed well to screen and that they did this all on purpose. Our 'bet who will die on GoT' at work has Cersei on top, immediately followed by Da€nerys. Casuals see that her arc is an arc of hubris.

Political Jon is another matter. Most say that they think it is an interesting twist but that Jon is too dumb. I think once they realise he is not too dumb they will buy it.

Casual viewers are in it for the visuals and the twists and some don't even want to think too much on it, because they want to be surprised. I think it will be easy to get casual viewers on board.

As for the feminist angle. I didn't realise feminism means that from now on the women have to end on top in every novel an movie...

No, honestly I think feminism should be about having as many multi layered characters as the men and DarkDany with a great 'villain origin story' actually is a feminist icon, because what usually is preserved for male villains, the complicated origin that makes them believable and even relatable (up to a point), is done so well for her. Da€nerys is not the embodiment of a trope, she is not 'evil seductress', 'evil witch' or even 'evil manipulator', she is the 'hero in her own mind', whose reasons make sense to her and whose reasons we can understand - if hopefully not approve. [Just as an aside, I really, really hope that D stans would not support a woman like that irl].

So, I actually think the GA will love season 8. They'll enjoy the twists and the rug pulled... They'll say : I totally did not see that coming. But the thing is that it will make sense in hindsight. The GA might have eaten up the Jon€rys romance but if it fails they probably will not cry, but will ask themselves : where was this hinted at?

The response of Jon€rys shippers and D stans will be different. They will claim the show is a fanfic and that the books will be different and will try to tell us that the show writers and GRRM are misogynistic. I've said it here on this blog, I have some issues with GRRM writing women, but the lack of multi -layered and very different women is not one of them. And I do have issues with some of the decisions D&D made for women on the show. But I do think that Da€nerys is the character they really put well to screen and they even did a better Cersei (although Lena is a huge factor there as well). I don't think D&D are misogynistic, but they tend to write more to shock and less in reflection of dubious TV viewing habits (like : let the audience feel for Sansa and let her become strong by bringing her to Ramsay, yikes). It's not they they reflect much on these subjects and it shows. They are definitely no allies of feminism. I try to keep my expectations low regarding the writing. The show 's writing was better when they still had the books, but I hope it will be up to season 6 at least. And we have two episodes done by Miguel Sapochnik.

im also thinking about having the one i still havent fucking named yet. their reincarnation on earth’s name is crystal. not actually die after they kill their higher up in his sleep bc liike......... SOMEONE meets them there and if its stardust............ stardust meets crystal as crystal and saves them from something on Earth and crystal is............. very much hmm. awake. they see into Earth in abstract ways (idk whats with the doors but when barren tries to enter their mind theyve got a huge hallway full of doors and lights that switch off when they come after barren like. as if theyre like office lights but they dont really understand) and like.............................................. where im at atm is that if stardust goes with whoever to that higher ups room, sees (crystal) has already killed them, and (c) is ready to die, they will probably ask stardust about that?? They probably wont understand what exactly happened bc like......... thats like someone from fucking ancient rome seeing visions of modern america its not.............. going to be digestible unless its slightly abstract........................ but im sure something as fucking monumental as seeing an angelic spirit literally manifest in light in front of you here on Earth is something that’’ make an impression on your soul................. and (c)/crystal are fucking good at what they do. i want them to ask about it. and since stardust, who goes between worlds consciously, is going to fucking know who crystal is and recognise that they and barren (stardust’s grandchild) have a lot in common........... theres no fucking way he’d let them jump out that window if they started questioning things, and they would have so many questions having realised that. ugh. basically - 

(c) is brought up as a servant to fill the hole that barren left behind when barren was basically kicked out. Barrens excellent at receiving visions and shit, (c)’s existence is basically ther higher ups finding out the limits of the demos mind in psychism and pushing them

(c) sees a lot of shit and knows theyre good at what they do, but their higher ups dont want to see them exploring other worlds. they therefore have a lot of uncertainties about their abilities and how Sane they fucking are because of the gaslighting

(c) gets to know barren secondhandedly as they start making an impact on the world, fucking up some plans and shit. (c) doesnt like them at first but starts to realise......... theres more to this life than just following orders out of fear. things can be different no matter how scary that is. seeds are planted

(c) ends up doing the mindwalking thing with barren (where they enter someone elses mind, a rare art that currently only barren and they know, and stardust is kinda taught by the god Moonshine) and realises theyve gone through similar trauma w the same higher ups................ seeds beginning to sprout 

(c) finally fucking snaps and ends up killing one of their higher ups in their sleep bc look. the worlds out to get barren and they can do one little thing.......... they dont have to be right, because they plan to kill themselves right after doing it, tired of being abused and of what the higher ups are doing.................. the main characters and they converge at this point

if stardust is there.................. then im SURE since (c) is literally on the fucking edge that they can finally ask like. they have suspicions that stardust is Sol bc they see a lot of fucking shit. but they wont ask that bc hes keeping quiet for a reason and if theyre right............................................... they ask if stardust was the one who saved them in The Other World (without being explicit beyond “did you save me”) and stardust is like.......... see............. left with this fucking decision and imt rying to decide what hed do. He knows the potency of that question - it means (c) knows about Earth. it means they dont know that they know earth. it means they will have a huge amount of questions and a boost to their self worth if he says yes............... but theyve just done something that will get them tortured and killed, theyre planning on dying for a reason. Does he say yes and give them back all their potential just before their death?? Or does he say no and disappoint them.............. because. oh i forgot to mention. (c) has a patron Higher Demos and considering Stardust is actually the fucking god-king of them its like................ (c) will find out after death the truth and this patron (or technically matron, i think ill make Mother their matron/guardian) will tell them why stardust lied but like..................... does he give this potential back when theyre really resoled for good reason to die (so they dont get tortured and then killed)? 

i was thinking of having stardust say yes, have them start waking up to themselves and realising theyve got so many questions and things they can finally talk about and “oh shit!! Wait if these things are real then holy shit, this world isnt everything there is and i think i understand” but. of course theres guards going around and they were supposed to do this super fast get in and get out so theyll probably get spotted............ im thinking about having stardust rescue them as they either get in trouble or go to finish it out of fear bc tbh...................... stardust speaks in actions more than words, not that he doesnt talk but after having taken part in the fucking war against siirka hes....... extremely conscious of the power he has over this life and the impact his actions have on everyone, but i think. him dropping that and reacting instinctually to save this person that was seemingly the enemy......... either he fucking loses his demos form to rescue them if he doesnt get to the window in time, or he’ll pull them forward and touching skin to skin is what activates mindwalking (but the less meditatvely you enter it the less control you have over what you see and whose mind is walked into) so. thatd be a fascinating way to show the connected memories of crystal and stardust and also some bits and pieces i havent been able to show elsewhere. OR! since crystal trying to die has given up, maybe thats a fucking GREAT opportunity to see into THEIR mind alone because theyve let down their self-preserving instincts! Thats how barren gets to see theyve gone through similar trauma, because when barren mindwalks into their mind theyve got the upper hand bc they fucking KNOW what! OH! the song i have for that scene just started playing. anyway they fucking KNOW what theyre doing more than barren! But when barren’s guard gets eaten up basically and (c) starts seeing the shit barrens gone through at the hands of their shared hgher ups their own guard drops and barren gets to see the related memories in (c)’s own mind............ so maybe.......... now (c), finally resolved and aware of their whole life now that its about to be ended, will be mentally open enough for SD to accidentally be pulled into their head

the timeline tho............. stardust has a few reveals and theres only a limited amount of mindwalks i can do with him before im having to actively be like “whoops i guess yet again the important info just HAPPENED to be missed!!” because ive already got. once with barren. Thats when they meet Moonshine and he tries to teach barren more about mindwalking, BUT since Moonshines a mental deity barrens physically overwhelmed like fucking blood pouring from the nose and passes out, SD catches them......... so both their guards are down and the mindwalking experience is scrambled to FUCK changing rapidly between memories of both of them both clear and scrambled since oops surprise barren is SD’s grandchild so their essences mix, and its like trying to right a spiralling descending plane but stardust is TRYING to steer barren away from the “Oh Yeah Im Sol And Your Grandfather” memories................ i can only get away with those memories not being there a VERY LIMITED AMOUNT OF TIMES. sure (c) and stardust have abstracted memories of Earth to anchor on but............. i cant keep having Stardusts mind explored while staying away from Sol. i cant. this story is supposed to be pieced together in clues i cant have like fifty million “heres stardust!”s and then be like “oh and hes sol!!” ya know.............. and stardust and (c) are possibly supposed to experience another mindwalk after moonshine so like. ugh. i dont. UGH i dont know

@electrumbeaute Okay so I know you aren’t around much anymore but I love you to bits. We’ve written different things on different platforms and everything we’ve started or had the opportunity to develop has been amazing and I’ve cherished every single little thing. We clicked from the start and you were the first person to wholeheartedly welcome me into this fandom. In spite of all the negativity surrounding it and existing within, you showed me the positive side to it. You were the light that existed within it. And truly, from the bottom of my heart I love you for that and I love just you overall. The chances of you seeing this any time soon isn’t very likely. I’ll tell you about it next time you pop in but just know that no matter if you’re here or not, you’ll always be cherished by me. You’re such an amazing person and the kindest I’ve ever really known? I can talk to you and feel so comfortable. I miss you a lot but I’m glad you’re happy where you are and I’m glad you still come around and grace me with a message whenever you can.

@omamoribane Zelda is amazing. I’m not the only one who thinks so either because the birds have flocked to her and showed her crazy amounts of love (which I feel she is entirely deserving of). Listen, I love her Magnus and I’ve gotten to know her pretty well ooc. We click really well. She gets me, she gets what it’s like to be a part of this fandom. We share a lot of the same views on it and relate really well and I just love that I can rant to her about so much and she gets it because she feels the same way. As a writer, she’s insanely talented? I actually was intimidated by the first starter she ever posted for me. I didn’t want to disappoint her because I felt like she captured Magnus’s voice and mannerisms so well and I wanted to be on that same level with her as Alec. I don’t know if I succeeded but even now I still try. I look forward to everything she writes or we write (there’s a reason we have multiple threads open right now). Her writing incites so much feeling and emotion inside me and it’s very easy to get into and reply. I love seeing her on my dash. She’s kind, and sweet and honest and very truthful. She understands Magnus in a way that goes beyond the show, she delves deeper, and really brings light and depth to his character. I appreciate it so much because I also feel like through her writing, I have a better understanding of Magnus and who he his, how he thinks, where he comes from. She really pushes the bar and makes everything so fleshed out and believable. There’s always new layers to be explored. I’d def recommend for Magnus lovers.

@harlykinns Okay but I love everything about this Harley. From the headcanons, to the actual in character writing and journey, to her endless fantastic verses. And the mun omg, this mun is incredible. So awesome, so nice, so bursting with skill? I can never get enough of her on my dash. And I don’t think I ever will. I’m super honored that I get to write with her and delve into another fandom that I may not know my way around completely but it doesn’t seem to matter with her. She’s super accepting and exceptional at what she does. I also like that despite how Harley is portrayed in some verses and versions, she sticks to what she feels is right and does justice for the character and I actually love what she does with Harley as opposed to anything else I’ve seen? Like the love and belief she has in herself and in her portrayal is something I aspire for myself. I keep saying this but I cannot get enough of this blog or mun. I tell her this in IMs so she knows I mean it and I get excited whenever I see her around. It’s like a cool, nice surprise every time she comes back and busts out all these amazing replies and I’m sitting here like how??? do?? you?? do??? this??? Teach me okay, just teach me. FRICK

How can I resist an opportunity to embarrass and expose myself as a weirdo fangirl who stalks you on the dash? I mean, I hope nothing I say scares you off from one day granting me the honor of roleplaying with your son. If it does, I take it back. (No, not really tho because you need to hear it.) I mean for starters you’re just a positive human being, even if you’re having a bad day (and I’m sorry when that happens to you bc you’re great and deserve more ok) you still go out of your way to make others feel loved and appreciated. You did that to me when you sent me that sweet message and this whole time I’m still flabbergasted you even acknowledge my presence or think so? when I look at you and see how marvelous you are IC and to your followers. Your writing is magnificent. The inner monologue is always so interesting and in depth and ofc I love it. The fact you conjured up and created this amazing character out of thin air (which I wouldn’t even know was completely original bc thats how crazy good the bio, background and headcanons/meta are) is mindboggling?? How in the world did you do that?? Are there tips you can share with the class? Because truly, I am interested to know. I challenge anyone to read Ry’s bio and try and tell me its not a character that already belongs or exists in film? Its too real. Reading the meta I sent you the other day I kept thinking like how do you come up with this stuff? And all on your own too? I could try to do the same but I wouldn’t even come close. When you write a book one day (who knows maybe you already have? I’d believe it), all I ask is that you don’t forget about us little people (like me) because you bet I’m gonna hit you up for an autograph. And Idk maybe writing books isnt what you wanna do but if it is, you’ll be phenomenal at it and I could see a series being born out of the fantasy world you created. GO BIG DARLING.
