An explosion of wildflower species appears to paint Temblor Range, a mountain range that rises from the east side of the San Andreas fault at Carrizo Plain national monument near Santa Margarita, California, US. Spectacular wildflower blooms, referred to by some as a superbloom, are occurring across much of California following a historically wet season that drove 31 atmospheric river storms through the region, resulting in widespread flooding and record snow depths in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The extreme weather comes after years of record drought for most of the state

California wildflower superbloom begins — here’s a look at one of the best spots
Apr. 4, 2023 - The Modesto
There’s a silver lining to all the cold, rainy weather that’s buffeted the Central Coast — actually an orange, yellow and blue one.
Vast fields of wildflowers are blossoming en masse across the eastern swath of San Luis Obispo County as a lush superbloom returns to California.
One popular place to find colorful blooms are the hills east of Santa Margarita along Highway 58, most notably along Shell Creek Road, but also Bitterwater Road and La Panza Road, as well as in the foothills of the Temblor Range...

Rolling southward freight (eastbound in Southern Pacific parlance), a trio of EMD SD45s, consisting of SP 8898, 9120 and 9100, is nineteen miles from San Luis Obispo, at which point this crew will be relieved by a fresh crew. But between here, the SP station Cushing, and there lies the summit of the Santa Lucia Mountains’ Cuesta Grade, five miles ahead, and then it is all downhill, and through five tunnels, to get to SLO. The new crew will have a great view of the Pacific Ocean on their right side for much of their journey! (Santa Margarita, California – January 12, 1985)

Not a Dumb Broad
Don’t tell PasoBro, but I have stated numerous times Santa Margarita grows the best BDX varieties in the AVA. Here’s a fun example–one I found languishing on a Bev-Mo shelf for PENNIES. The interesting part is: I reviewed this exact wine on release in 2014. I thought it seemed familiar. I haven’t read that review–for fear of psychological sway–but will of course as soon as I finish my thoughts…

Kasuti from Southern California Siamese Rescue in Rancho Santa Margarita, California
Click here for more information about adoption and other ways to help!
Click here for a link to Southern California Siamese Rescue’s main website.
Kasuti is a very talkative 5 year old tortie point. She is a tiny 7 pound girl with a big fluffy tail. She is an intelligent, inquisitive, sweet cat, and loves to play! She likes wand toys and will play until she is panting. She perks up when she hears her name, and will let foster mom pick her up and place her on her lap, but then she's off on her own. If foster mom pets her for what she thinks is too long, she'll try to grab her hand and do love bites. She likes to rub against foster mom's hand and legs for a pet. Kasuti uses the scratching post and hasn't tried scratching the rug or the furniture. She's not chewing on anything she's not supposed to. She seems perfectly fine being an indoor cat, doesn't make any moves to try to get out. Kasuti also has great litter box manners. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all medical. Kasuti's owner died leaving her along with two other cats, a dog and a bird.  Although we were told by her rescuer that she got along with them all, she does not want to be friends with the cats in her foster home. She is a princess that wants to rule the kingdom and every feline in it.  Kasuti needs to be the only cat in her forever home.  She has been in her foster home for over a month and has won over foster mom's heart with her big personality and her need to be loved. Kasuti really wants to be loved, and will be a pleasure to have in your home. Get your application in, get approved, and this blue eyed beauty could be yours!

Santa Margarita's Action, by Geoff Hunt (1948-)
The two frigates HMS Unicorn and HMS Santa Margarita formed part of the so-called Irish Guard, a squadron tasked with preventing French landing attempts on Ireland. In June 1796, these two ships brought to action a French squadron of nearly equal force. The action resolved itself into two single-ship actions, Santa Margarita engaging and quickly capturing the Tamise, as seen here, while Unicorn chased La Tribune (seen at the left).

National Totally Chipotle Day
Each year on May 5th, National Totally Chipotle Day celebrates right alongside Cinco de Mayo and is dedicated to the chipotle, a smoked, dried jalapeno pepper.
There are different varieties of jalapenos and they vary in size and heat. At one time, chipotles were primarily found in the markets of central and southern Mexico.  As Mexican foods became more popular in the more northern areas of North America, the jalapeno production and processing expanded north into the United States.
Chipotles are often an essential ingredient and add a mild spiciness to many different dishes in Mexican cuisine. While you expect to find them in salsas and other sauces, don’t hesitate to use them in other ways, too. Add them to soups and marinades if you want to bring the heat to a dish. Bean or lentil dishes shine when you add chipotle to them. Do you like sweet and spicy flair? Add chipotle to your jellies. When pairing chipotle with a slice of smoky cheese, you won’t be disappointed. Top it on a grilled bbq chicken pizza to wow guests.
You can even add it to desserts for a surprising but delicious twist. For example, homemade dark chocolate ice cream with the hint of smoky chipotle in every bit is a real winner. You can turn down the heat by removing the seeds and membrane or leave them in for a more exciting experience.
HOW TO OBSERVE
What’s your favorite chipotle dish? Celebrate the day by mixing up dips, marinades, sides and more!
