When he feels confident and energetic he also wants to make other people with confidence and special too!

OH MY GOD THAT'S REALLY BEAUTIFUL AND COOL JAY! He was A BIG INNER STRENGTH AND POWER. I don't even know if he's aware of it but yeah he's more powerful and has strong inner strength more MORE THAN he thinks. As I said he likes to give it all for what he has/had and to try for the best. Very optimistic! He's very active with his "personal life" (maybe when he wants to be alone sometimes) and with other people too, he's actually a great visionary with his actions and what he thinks too, seeing the bigger picture from all the angles! He's really grateful for the life, for what he has and still have now, for the people around him, the family too, he knows when to be grateful and thankful too. (Maybe he's sensitive but he doesn't like to show it)

Okay okay the Death card is very interesting for a positive trait cuz it's telling me that he embraces and gets comfortable with any kind of change or even transformation with his life, with programs/schedules etc. He really doesn't mind to talk deep and very dark convos (very open-minded too) and as I said I still getting that he's very sharp and "as-it-is" vibe with his words and energy too.

(I may be wrong but somehow I feel somewhat Jay is kinda interested in spiritual growth and development too, or his soul may be👀)

Hmmmm.. Well this kinda shocked because his negative traits aren't that bad. I mean he gets easily bored or unhappy (but it depends the unhappiness tho, it looks like a mood swings to me) for example not all the days are the same and I feel he's forcing himself to laugh, smile, talk more, when he doesn't want to. He may also have conflicts with his thoughts, I mean his mind is always in a war (or most of the time) so he can be in bad mood or a bit irritated with himself more than with others. He can also be moody but not always or in a bad way. ( cuz in the previous reading I got the Sun from the bottom of the deck and it's like he has one closed member/friend very very close and deep to him that he can always bring him happiness and joyful moments too.)

Actually idk if he's extro or intro but I feel like he's more introverted than extroverted. He's shy but not always, sometimes he can't choose when to feel shy or not but still I got the feeling of laziness and stubbornness too. He also let's say"ignore " his well-being? Like he doesn't really pay attention more than he used to, he gotta pay attention more of his health, even physical or mental or even emotional. He may also be an overthinker and he can be critical with himself or in some situations with or without others. I'm sorry gay people in my phone but the new Doctor Who has thoroughly fucking confused me and was kind of a letdown

I thought they were gonna genuinely do something with the story and aliens being extremely generic? Like. The Doctor regenerates back into their 10th form, coincidentally near Donna Noble, coincidentally while a plot's going on that feels like a self parody of Dr Who as a show. Tiny overly cutesy alien, gets found by and connects with teen who hides it from family, getting hunted down by big scary alien army, scenes like the plushie hiding thing that feel pulled straight out of a generic 80s scifi family film??

The Meep being evil was obviously gonna happen but I assumed there would be a second twist to it? Like, maybe they were both an elaborate set up bc some larger entity wanted 10 and Donna together. I thought bc it was the anniversary they were going the meta approach by making a threat that basically encapsulates the exact set up you imagine when you think about the show, mashing all the tropes together into one adventure made especially to encourage Donna and 10 back into the old days. Even the end with an oops silly mistake resulting in them being stuck together in the Tardis.

BUT THEN. THEY PLAYED IT COMPLETELY STRAIGHT?? AND THE EPISODE JUST ENDS?? NOT EVEN ANY CHARACTER ACKNOWLEDGING HOW WEIRD THIS WHOLE SITUATION WAS???? JUST COMPLETELY ACTING NORMAL. EVEN THE DOCTOR

I'm seriously hoping that this is explained later on as a setup for somethig larger, and that in later rewatches it'll be way more satisfying. But rn I'm confused as hell and disappointed, and if the show wasn't so important to my childhood I proly wouldn't wanna watch further. If it is all setup then... I don't want an exclusively setup episode. That's lame. At the very least if you ARE going that direction foreshadow it better

Some minor things I'm nitpicking also

- I know Doctor Who isn't meant to be that serious but come on the intro of David Tennant just greenscreened standing in space explaining the setup was so goofy it made me howl (and I don't think that was intentional)

- I love an important trans character, that's based as hell, but the trying to act relevant and appeal to Gen Z was kind of annoying. Not as in "Grrr my old show is woke 😡" I'm literally one of the wokes. As in "Haha women are so much cooler and smarter than men 😏 Doctor assuming pronouns 😳 Binary Nonbinary 😁😁" "🦡 Wow that's not very funny and a little irritating, it feels like a cistraight guy wrote this". It was a funny episode and some bits of this were funny but certainly not others

- For real tho I'm obsessed w "Binary Nonbinary" that's so fucking stupid

- For all the set up and stakes put on Donna remembering the Doctor, the way it resolved felt like a copout. Passing down and sharing the power was fine but literally just going "Nuh uh" and sending it away?? I really feel like that diminishes how importantly the time lord power was set up just for the sake of Donna being alive for more episodes. If they need her they could've at least let the two deal with it together for a while, before finding a better way to get rid of it down the line

- ^ It also made Donna's death have less impact for the problem to be solved in such an easy way. Her dying was emotional, was well executed, until it wasn't and she was fine and she was back having fun doctor times and woo!! everything to do with her absorbing that power and losing her memory is done and dusted and doesn't need further exploring 😁😁👍👍 I mean come on man..... give us something............

TLDR special was very fun but I expected it to do something interesting and subversive and it ended up playing the parody of itself completely straight. I'm hoping as more stuff comes out the showrunners are proven to be complete masterminds who purposefully made it like that and I'm gonna look like a bumbling idiot

Hi! So, you probably don't remember me but I'm that anon from a month ago whom your blog convinced to watch Kinnporsche! Well I have finally had time off to binge it and I just finished it and I am screaming! (and I have no one to scream with so I hope you don't mind)

This show was really great, I love how it had both silly and serious moments, how the date wasn't the perfect date Porsche pictured but it was still beautiful for them, and how there were so many moments where I was just screaming at my screen for the characters to just communicate ffs. But it also had many twists, some of which I did and some of which I didn't see coming, which kept the plot fun and interesting!

I've mostly been rewatching tv shows lately so this was super refreshing to watch and I just fell in love with the characters at introduction (I mean, come on, that Porsche intro was perfection, and the way it was mixed with what was going on with Kinn was perfect)

They did so many great things with lights I probably need a rewatch to catch and appreciate them all!

I'm glad KinnPorsche and VegasPete (and Macau) got their happy ending, and I'm a bit sad for Porchay and Kim but maybe they'll work it out eventually, or not, who knows, never meet your hero and all that

But I had a question since you seem to know a lot... Do we know what actually happened? Because what Korn said is heavily implied to still not be the truth (and he hasn't exactly shown himself reliable with the truth), so I was wondering if maybe they had said more about it in interviews or some of the specials?

the first episode is seriously such a masterpiece with how it introduces the characters and the whole show and sets the tone (not that every episodes is going to be strictly about serious mafia stuff, but serious mafia stuff will always be looming over our characters having their silly lovely moments)

also i’m flattered that i seem to you like someone who knows a lot cause i feel a bit more like porsche most of the time

but yeah, anyway! i’m gonna say that i don’t think they mention anything like that in the interviews. i haven’t watched all of them obviously, but if they were talking about what actually happened in characters’ past i’d feel like it would be pretty important and loud and by this time made it to my radar at least once alksjd but i don’t think they talk about it, especially considering that there is still a chance of second season happening and you would want to keep something like very important plot relevant truth (korn did kill kan a bit too early to keep some of that truth from porsche and kinn, seems important) for the next season.

then again, the series is based on the novel, and the novel has all the lore the series doesn’t have. but i haven’t read it and for now have no interest in doing so (maybe some time later, but idk man). and the plot of the series might differ from the novel, so again, i don’t know if the novel has answers to your question.

one thing is certain - korn is full of shit. what he tells porsche in the end isn’t the truth or at least isn’t the full truth, but i personally wouldn’t trust him even with a weather report. i’d say that our best bet is to hope that there is a second season and that they will reveal the actual truth in it, because i’m damn curious about what the fuck is up with this fucking family!

i will kindly ask tho, if someone did read the novel and is reading this post right now, don’t actually post any novel spoilers in the replies, please? but if there is something relevant in the novel, maybe let the anon know that you know? ok, thanks everyone, love you!

Probably the single most UNpredictable movie I have ever saw.

(but that doesn't mean it's totally worth every minute of its' THREE HOUR run time)

'Beau is Afraid.'

So I know the story and highlights of the director's 'Hereditary.' Dark, fucked up, a few good twists.

And I saw Midsommer (one of the DARKEST MOVIE INTROS since 'Ghost Ship'.) To me, it's was just 'Wickerman' 2020s edition: new paint job. Solid movie, few new additions, but very predictable (again, except that fucking intro man!)

<If you're wondering, I never saw 'Heredity' because way too much story info came out before I saw it which...ruins the fun.>

So I had to see Beau. And here's my takeaway:

What if the entire world was suffering from some level of mental illness?

Because, semi spoilers but honestly? Not TOO much...

YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT IS REAL OR IN HIS HEAD. AND THEY NEVER EXPLICITLY TELL YOU!

Besides a couple of the scenes just DRAGGING out, moving no where (art to BE art instead of have a point), I was practically NEVER bored. I can say that. Because I had no fucking clue what was going on. My catch phrase was "what the fuck does that mean? And they better explain that!"

<WHICH THEY NEVER DO IN ANY WAY!? Paraphrasing from the words of the creator, this movie is 100% open to interpretation.>

I do gotta warn you about 3 things tho.

1-everybody is a bad guy. No one comes out looking good, really. But again, is this all in his head!? YOU DO NOT KNOW!

2-It was INCREDIBLY violent. You NEVER would have guessed from the trailer, but....exploding bodies. Seriously.

3-Because of the above 2, this movie makes you uncomfortable and squirmish. Trust me-it's hard to make me go 'wtf' and almost want to turn something off (especially if it's not grotesque, more...fucked up and weird) but there will be parts of this movie you'll want to turn away from, but you can't because....

--THE SET DESIGNS WERE AMAZING! NOTHING felt hollywood stage, cheap wood and spackle. The special effects were pretty solid too. This felt, for such an over the top cartoonish crazy world, REAL. Like you could touch it, or fall into it by accident yourself. You could study this film frame by frame some scenes; they put in THAT much work into the background.--

'Beau is afraid': 7/10. It ain't my favorite movie, but thank god for something COMPLETELY different. If you know where this movie is going within in the first 30 minutes, kudos. You're a fucking artistic genius. It felt like every....10-15 minutes you had NO IDEA what was coming around the corner. THAT is a feeling I miss from movies*.

ps-favorite part? Set designs AND camera work. Don't get me wrong, acting and writing was near perfect. But the amount of detail (you will miss SO MUCH) in each background, and his smooth maneuvering of the camera to feel like you're just walking with them....I literally just clapped my hands for. It was impressive. SKILLFUL. You don't do that by accident, but tedious work.

pps-least fav part? ...by the end of the movie, you realize humans are capable of some really twisted fucked up nightmare shit. You have to have a fucked up brain to write these kinds of things, too...

*We should start a (spoiler free) list of best totally and completely unpredictable movies. Honestly? I'm having a hard time thinking of one....best I got? 'Parasite' and 'Old Boy'. Ha. Both not American. Guess we ran out of creativity, huh? But this is prob #1 most unpredictable. Sometimes it felt like each scene was written by a different person in a way...except for the violence....that's quite consistent...

Goodness, your art gives me life, I swear. Also, I was wondering how the Belos - Hunter relationship works in your Swap AU. Are they still uncle and nephew or do they just meet randomly like Eda and Luz in the show? Or something else?

for the sake of the au, unless something changes in the show to make me readjust some things....they're not gonna be related. (Though tbf it's unclear even in the show the full extent of their family connection).

And they'll work like Eda and Luz already do, except belos is FAR more reluctant then Eda probably was to have a human in his house (He'll get used to it).

Instead of being abusive and murderous, Belos and Kiki are just like....grumpy hermits who don't like people and keep to themselves a lot. Belos won't leave the dang house really and kiki does most of the work and talking (So basically no different then the show XD).

They're criminals doing their own thing and Hunter's existence literally FORCES them to do things now because if they don't he will find a way to make things worse. XD

Hunter's smart, he's incredibly gifted and a huge wild magic nerd, but he gets himself into trouble because of his want to learn more about the world and having so much more freedom here then he did back home. He'll just stumble his way into danger because he likes to take risks in search of knowledge.

But he's also sarcastic and moody at times, they're a moody bunch.

Hunter never experiences the hard training and serious issues he does in the show, so here he's not as well trained in battle and his mind has yet to be seriously damaged. But his parents are also still like...dead in this au so like, he probably has some issues, he's still trying to cure belos.....which annoys the crap out of him btw but he gets used to it.

He's frequently witty tho, and gets easily annoyed when picked on, so basically he's about the same as he mostly is in the canon series, but with far less of the baggage and not as competent (Yet).

I didn't expect him to be so much of a straight man to luz's shenanigans as he turned out to be, but actually it kinda works better. Everyone just now drives hunter insane at times, and he has to put up with it.

- (Don't mind me, i'm rambling about the uncle stuff down here)

Honestly i figured something like this could happen because i was one of the people who HEAVILY suspected GG and Belos were gonna be related somehow.

Like before GG's age was revealed you were able to maybe assume GG was just some powerful adult general of belos's he had lying around and some rival to lilith and kiki, but when we got told he was 16 years old i knew something was up. (Tho i did suspect him being a kid when the intro came out and he looked really young in it)

He and belos were matching design wise in their outfits, they were both carrying matching staffs with similar magic to them. Belos appeared to have some special level of trust to this teenager in particular that i found too odd unless they had a connection between them.

Not to mention, all the important kid characters have parents we actually get to meet, and it seemed clear to me GG was going to be important to s2 in some fashion because of his involvement in the new intro, new poster, how dana was talking about him-

and it'd be so much weirder for the show to introduce this random kid without him having any connection to any previously established characters. And for me, belos made by far the most sense to be the character he's already connected to in terms of everything else i listed here.

It was either "These two are related" or "Belos is just REALLY attached to this teenager in particular for some reason", which still gave off parental vibes anyway.

authors note: this has been sittin in my drafts for months I just haven’t had the motivation to finish. there will be a part 2 with smut I just wanted to get this out first.

part 2

Eren liked to think he was a pretty simple guy. He’d meet someone, use them for his benefit, lead them on till he didn’t need them anymore, then disappear. A sick trick that he used to manipulate all kinds of people. Life really can be easy with the right looks and a smooth voice. He and only ever got what he needed. He understands how selfish it is. But gotten him this far, so what would be the point in changing. 

Unfortunately, you had been one of the unlucky few to get caught up in his schemes. Let’s be honest it wasn’t a surprise, you knew of him before. A few of your friends pinned over him for being the cute nicotine-addicted guy who couldn’t care less about World Literature 1-2. But you believed each and everyone of of his sweet little promises. “No you’re so special, I think I’m gonna keep you around for a long time sweetheart.” Deception dripping from his lips as he gave you a sinful grin.

You should’ve known...

It’s been a few months now since Eren blocked and deleted your number for his phone, the last time you spoke was when he texted you to thank you for helping him pass his English final. You replied with asking if he wanted to get lunch the following day only to be left with your text never going through. That motherfucker. Of course you were angry, mostly at yourself though. You tried not to sulk about it yet every time you’d go out you’d dress up a little then you would usually just in case you’d see him. And luckily he wasn’t in any of your classes this semester either so it would be easier to forget him.

At this point you haven’t thought of Eren in weeks, you’ve focused yourself in uni and started taking assignments and things more seriously. That was until one of Eren’s roommates unknowingly took a seat next to you in your intro to ethics course.

You’ve been to Eren’s apartment a multitude of times. You knew who his roommates were, even after having a few conversations in the late morning with them after you would spend the night. Armin, who was too engrossed from whatever was on his phone plopped his books right next to you and took a seat not sparing you a glance. Once you professor started speaking he locked his phone slipping it into his pocket and glance around the room. Once he looked at you his blue eye widened and he sorta whispered “oh hey! y/n didn’t know you were in here”

You shrugged and gave a polite smile while turning back to look at the front of the room to stare through one of the windows above the projector screen. It’s not like you hated Armin, he was very kind and never judged you when you’d take the walk of shame in the morning through Eren’s kitchen, it’s just you know that this interaction would eventually lead back to him and that made you nervous.

A week or two passed and Armin continued to sit next you, you supposed it was more comfortable for him because it didn’t look like he knew anyone else in this class, neither did you. Nor were you complaining he’d give you notes and lend you his book when you would forget. Not much conversation would happen between you either, a simple hello and other small talk would occur nothing more. A very professional relationship.

Yet when your professor assigned a partner projects you and Armin both looked at each other like :| and silently agreed to work together. It was just easier that way. The assignment wasn’t due for another 2 weeks so you had confidence that you wouldn’t have to grind at the end of the this week to do it. Until Armin caught your arm as you were leaving.

“Hey sorry to ask but would it be ok if we could work on this after school? I have a lot of stuff due this week and I’m in a bit of a time crunch.” He shyly laughed hoping you weren’t busy.

You held in a sigh “Uhh sure, can I meet you at 5 tho..I have a thing-”.

“Yeah! That’d be fine, my place?”

You kinda really didn’t want to go to his place, “yea!”

You both continued listening to your teacher’s lecture while your mind was elsewhere, you didn’t have anything after school you just wanted to go home for a bit and prepare for who you may or may not see at Eren’s Armins apartment. By the end of the day you raced home, flopping onto your bed, this was a bad idea, why didn’t you just ask for him to meet at the library or something?? This situation could’ve been a whole lot simpler if you just offered your place instead. Hell you don’t have any unconventional roommates you sleep with him so it’s just unfair. At 4:45 you gather your things and drove over to Armin’s apartment. You knocked on the door, your nerves going haywire.

You’re greeted by Armin he smiled and opened the door for you letting you walk inside. You took a glance to the side and luckily Eren’s familiar beat up tennis shoes weren’t by the door. At least you could relax for a little while, hopefully he wouldn’t come home till you were gone.

Jean was sitting on the couch watching some action movie at a low volume with Connie who was fast asleep curled up with a throw pillow. The lights in the living room were dim with the curtains on the windows shut. Yet you could still see from the light in the kitchen that shone from above the counter. Jean gave you a nod, “welcome back” he half whispered as he tipped his drink at you. You smiled and waved and made your way into Armin’s room. You sat at the edge of his desk in a borrowed kitchen chair, as he joined you sitting in his computer chair in front of his desktop. He left his door slightly ajar letting you see right through into the kitchen and front door, which made you slightly on edge. Armin started going over the project, opening a document, and reading through a few paragraphs. You tried your best you to concentrate but you were too paranoid. Every so often a loud noise from Jean’s movie on the tv would make you whip your head towards the door. About an hour in you and Armin had crunched through about a few paragraphs and of your project, to Armin’s mistake you guys definitely weren’t going to finish tonight. Hopefully the next time you’d offer your place instead.

After another 30 minutes you and Armin gave up, eventually you guys made your way back into the living room. You went to the door to gather your things until Jean and Connie basically begged you to stay and watch another movie with them. You didn’t want to, you knew if you stayed any longer the possibility of Eren coming home would increase. But when Connie got up from the couch and handed you a drink, you gave in. As you sat down you began slightly regretting your decision. Why were you staying? You and Armin were finished you can go home.

You asked yourself this when you heard keys jangle outside the door and the click of the lock. It’s roughly pushed open and Eren moves into the room, swiftly locking it behind him. “Hey man” Jean calls, you immediately tense next to Armin and fix a stare at the tv. You’re too aware of your surroundings right now to know what happening but you need a distraction. You can see his movement in your peripheral, Eren saunters in to the dark living room to stand by the opposite of the end of the couch from you. when he spots you,  you can feel his blazing stare in your skull, he laughs out a scoff and the room goes silent, except for the low murmur of the tv. 

The air is tense and awkward and everybody can see your apprehension. your heart it beating in your ears and you can feel you palms starting to sweat. The sounds of the tv are immediately drowned out when Eren breathes our your name. “What the hell are you doing here?” He grips the arm of the couch and places his left hand on his hip. You slowly turn your head to look him in the eyes when Armin speaks up trying to lighten the situation “We had a project for sadis’ class” 

Your eyes dart between Eren and Armin when Eren snides, “hmm...well it doesn’t look like your working on it” 

“hey layoff man” Jean gives him a side eye. “Yeah we finished just a few minutes ago.” Armin adds. 

“It was just a question” Eren shrugs. You can believe him, he such a fucking asshole, you’re staring at him in disbelief when he meets your eyes again he laughs “what did you miss me or somethin?” His grin is sickening, you feel the embarrassment hot on your face yet what can you do in the situation? If you leave you’ll destroy your pride and yet if you stay what if you give in to him again?

Your frozen in your seat you nails digging shapes into you palms as you clench them together. You feel the stare of everyone one in the room and it makes you want to cry. He tilts his head “can’t you speak? what wrong?” the malice in his voice makes your ears burn. You want to scream, you want to run, but he slowly walks right in front of you and holds out his hand. “C’mon”

You can leave at any moment, the door is only a few feet away yet you cautiously place your palm into his as he hauls you up from your seat. No one says anything as you guys leave the room, what a complicated situation this is huh? 

As he opens his door you try to glace back at the others yet he roughly pulls your arm though and slams his bedroom door. You hope they don’t blame you too much for going with him. You stand in the middle of a very familiar room, one you’ve visited many times yet you’re too scared too move from the spot you currently occupy. He turns to face you locking the door behind him and takes a few steps forward. You look at the floor as you begin speaking “Eren I-” 

“ohhhh so you can talk?” 

“yes’ you puff. 

He fits his hand under your chin proceeding to squish your cheeks to face him. “I don’t like you hanging out with them when I’m not around” his hot breath fan your face and you widen your eyes. The audacity. “What do you mean, were not even together anymo-” you voice smothered by his grip. 

He tips his head back and see concern in his eyes, its almost like he was hurt by your words, “Yes we are” his eyebrows scrunched together. You go to spit out another sentence when his hand moves to cover you entire mouth, he brings face to your ear, “You wound me y/n, how could you think that? I thought you loved me?” Why does he sounds so genuine? Your mind is fuzzy with confusion, of course he’s lying, you would never in a million years utter those words to him during the short time you were together. Yet the pain in his voice and the grip on your jaw is making you dizzy, his hot breath on your ear and neck are causing goosebumps to raise on your skin.

 Your smaller hand goes to grip his forearm that's holding your face. He moved to look into your eyes. The dim light from the lamp in the far corner of the room casts a shadow upon his face, yet his deep green eyes seem to glow. He slowly moves his hand away placing it on your shoulder as his free hand moves to your hip. You want to yell at him, ask his why he’s doing this to you, but you place your palm softly onto his chest and drop your head in shame, “I’m sorry..i..I didn’t know” you whispered.

His warm hand goes to caress your cheek and moves into your hair lightly pulling to make you face him. “It’s ok babe, you just have to make it up to me” his chest rumbles underneath your hands as you eye widen. “You can do that, right?” You slowly nod your head and bunch his t-shirt under your fingers. He places a soft kiss on your forehead and lead you towards his bed in the corner of the room. He takes a seat on his dark blue comforter and your stand in front of him. Your hands lightly holding onto his index fingers as he carefully rocks them back and forth.  You take another look at his face and see the artificial softness slowly fade away into something dark, and conspiring.

“On your knees babe” his voice sounding rougher than before. You begin another protest but he takes his warm palms and encircles your waist to urge you down. You slowly fall to your knees, your hands on his thighs while digging your nails into his rough jeans. Your mind slowly starts to unfog and start realizing what your doing. Your shame and regret tug at your heart and you feel the tears begin to prick your eyes. You look up at Eren and see the distain in his eyes. He hums and caresses you shoulder. You wept into your chest as you feel the air being stolen from your lungs Eren moves his calloused hand to your throat and tugs to make you look him in the eyes.

Why did you have to be so damn proud?

sub zero! 5, 6, 10, 22 and/or 23!

First off im so sorry this took four (4) business days to answer anyway THANKS FOR LETTING ME TALK ABOUT BLORBO THE 2ND💙

5) On an average day, what can be found in your character’s pockets?

One item we know for sure he canonically carried was that little telescope in mk11, and he does have those little knives on his belt, which Im not sure actually have their use, so its headcanons from now on:

I think on an average day, Sub Zero may not even have pockets, or doesnt use them, cause hes the grandmaster of the Lin Kuei so if he needs something, it will brought to him, or taken away when he ask for it. Missions would be different, but still, hes not heavy on objects, cause having too much can put you off balance when you fight I imagine, so: save from those little knives he carry (just in case of... something I imagine?), he doesnt need any weapons because he can just materialize whatever he wants from ice in his hands... ice is his greatest multi-tool actually, it take care of almost everything his (old) assassin job required: target in sight? Make an ice dagger. Door locked? Freeze and punch the handle. Injured? Freeze the wound. I still think he would carry some minimal first aid kit for the latter, again just in case, but emphasis on the minimal: needle, wire, maybe bandages. Can also double as a sewing kit if he need to fix his clothes. Only thing ice cant do is making you see far so thats why he carry the telescope. He DOES strikes me as the kinda guy who get emotional over special items tho so maybe he would carry something he has an attachment to if its small and/or practical enough, maybe thats why he carry the knives.

6) Does your character have recurring themes in their dreams?

Canonically, the only times dreams are involved in Sub Zero's story is one in the mkx comics where he wakes up from a pretty vivid nightmare (that basically recap his story from him about to kill scorpion and then getting teleported and cyberized in mk9 all the way to him getting resurrected in mkx), and another one in a shared intro with Raiden in mk11 where they both had a strange dream about "a strange and unjust world with a dark knight and a caped wonder" (debunked by Cetrion in another intro where she tells Subz that it was no dream). Anyway the latter is just a cheeky lil nod to Injustice so its not to take too seriously. Other than that theres not much in canon concerning Sub Zero's dreams.

As for my personal thoughts, I dont think Sub Zero dream much in general honestly, for a variety of reasons. I think he has a very light, survival oriented, sleeping pattern, staying up as late as possible until exaustion get the better of him, and you dont really get dreams out of a rest like that. Then, (and especially nowadays), if he DOES dream it would most likely be unpleasant considering the amount of stress and trauma hes had in his life and naturally I dont think hes looking very forward to that so thatd be another reason to delay sleep, also nightmares are more question 7's thing.

But if he does get dreams sometimes, and should they have a reccuring theme, at the risk of giving the boring answer, its gotta be about ice and the general cold, cause of course the element of which he has the mastery of, which he uses to defend his life with, of which he has 5 puns at the ready at all time, and which is like, His Whole Thing, would bring him comfort. I think his most peaceful dreams would be accompagned with gentle snow falling in the background, whatever they are about. Probably his family. Or Tomas! They would also be very bright, cause yknow, reflective white snow and the likes (but then if hes unlucky itd turn into static snow and it ends into one of many themed nightmares whoops. Subz has a lot of things to process). Anyway to conclude I dont see Sub Zero as someone with particularly thrilling dreams packed with themes and symbolism, just having a full night feeling safe and free of nightmares based on or twisting memories would be enough.

10) Does your character feel more comfortable with more clothing, or with less clothing?

Sadly theres nothing in canon concerning this so lets just jump straight to headcanons

TAKE A WILD GUESS

in both timelines, mf left the shirt as soon as possible once the old lin kuei was no longer in the picture, tits out tuesday every day of the week from that point on, god bless. But more seriously I hc that Kuai has some funky cryomancer biology going on, so for him the world is hotter than for anyone else, which is kinda ironic considering his (old) job required him to be heavily dressed with hood and mask and everything. He would have ways to cool himself down with his own powers but that still would mean making an (tho barely noticable) effort to remain at a comfortable temperature, when you can do that by just taking your shirt off once youre free to do so cause nobody can tell you what to do anymore.

22) What does your character like in other people?

So like most things, theres no clear cut canon indication written somewhere so its interpretation time:

A lot of his intros are about this so OR COURSE he likes people with honor and integrity. He was raised in the Lin Kuei which we can safely guess was quite the strict place, so of course he would be used to rules and be comfortable when theres structure, but somehow he mostly took to heart the good aspects of it, so of course he would like people with strong morals and an equally strong sense of duty, and keeping true to oneself.

Also as seen in quite a few of his intros, he seems to admire good leadership, and not in a "people he want to follow" way but more like, fellow leaders yknow? Because I dont think becoming grandmaster himself has EVER been in his end goals before but he was duty bound to redeem the Lin Kuei as the last true one after the cyber initiative, so I imagine him being put in a leading position was not a natural transition for him, despite his found affinity for teaching as he would find later in his life, hence why he would "look up" for lack of better words, to other people with leadership status in his life, like jax, sonya, and perhaps hanzo.

This one would fit his Lin Kuei upbringing but of course he value strength in other people, "only the strongest join the Lin Kuei" didnt leave his mindset but now its aimed to protect first and foremost, yourself, your clan, and your realm.

He also seems surprisingly fine with ambition, he did say that "loyalty shouldnt stunt one's growth" and considering his history in the Lin Kuei (esp after the cyber initiative and what he thinks of it) itd make sense.

I also kinda got the vibe that hes fine with ambition but not in a competitive way, more in a "better oneself" way than seeking to be above others in one way or another (he was fine with Frost's ambition, he intended to pass the mantle of grandmaster to her, but it was her impatience and lack of wisdom that eventually strained their relationship). I guess this one falls into him valuing strength again. But this also fot his role as a teacher now: of course youd enjoy someone who know their place but still seek to learn and improve.

Anyway I think Subz is a fair straight guy who enjoy people with a similar mindset, despite yknow, what I never shut up about

23) What does your character dislike in other people?

opposite of whats above lol. Impatience, as said with Frost. Definitely lack of discipline or downright foolishness, Jonnhy Cage only gets a pass from getting iced because theyre allies and probably have been so for years. He has a few lines about it so its safe to say he cant stand cockiness, or people getting way too over their heads because of their own power. Subz is a man with diamond hard principles so hes not big on lone wild cards as well Im betting. Bad Bosses too, Subz wants to lead by inspiring respect and value honesty so of course leaders like Shao Kahn and Sektor who led with cruelty and lies and fear would revulse him. Also hes NOT fond or authority figures somehow higher than him aka Gods, the Lin Kuei did not/do not worship them for starters, tho Raiden kinda gets a pass because hes an ally to Earthrealm, theyre equals in its protection tho Raiden is stronger, and also saved his life once so Subz is indebted but its not like he actively look up to the guy, except in a literal sense cause Raiden is stupid tall.

no one asked but here’s the anime I’ve watched while in the pandemicverse and my thoughts on them. it’s actually a Lot for me bc I never really watched the genre ever in my life before these quote unquote unprecedented times. and yeah also these are all pretty much only the current popular ones but I’m not sitting through 60 seasons of naruto & friends or something obscure like “my sister turned into a left shoe and jumped 12,000 years into the future” so anyway here ya go

my hero academia: I like this one, it’s fun and upbeat with lots of kooky characters. I heard the fans are cringe compilation station tho but thankfully I can’t read 8/10

demon slayer: still in the process of watching this one and it slaps but man it definitely loses some points for me when they introduce those super demon slayers whatever they’re called, the ones w/ the single personality trait each and the worst character designs in history. legit looks like the circus came to town whenever they’re on screen. 8/10

jujutsu kaisen: i, from the bottom of my heart, don’t understand the plot of this one at all but the art style and soundtrack are completely insane 9.5/10

dr. stone: one of my favs this show literally gets me hyped over some guy making a lightbulb 10/10

bungou stray dogs: I thought this was like your boilerplate anime before I realized i was watching two anime emo supremes fight f. scott fitzgerald on top of blimp that’s actually moby dick reimagined and careening out of the sky at 1000 miles an hour then I figured it was actually something really special 10/10

one piece: I did not and will not watch all 1000 episodes of this but I hear it play on tv when my husband watches it and it makes him super happy and I love him so 10/10 ❤️

promised neverland: I can’t remember watching this but it’s showing up as continue watching on hulu so uh 3/10

attack on titan: 3 seasons of ??? and then another of war crimes idk maybe 6.5/10 because I think the plot is interesting but a little 2 scary 4 me

tokyo ghoul: what a darksided sad depressing show why do you all like it so much are you okay. i seriously thought I’d need (more) therapy after season 1, season 2 was boring, and then it became completely unwatchable 2/10

blue exorcist: fun show but ended as soon as it really started, legit a prologue to a show that never came so that was weird 6/10 (no I’m not checking out the books i don’t need supplemental reading material for anime)

fire force: thought it was cute at first then it got very strange and intense. plot is complete mumbo jumbo but im always rooting for fire feet boy so I guess it’s good because it makes me care. also the second intro song fucks 8/10

tokyo revengers: actually a very poignant story about gang violence but also has the most nonsensical use of time travel ive ever seen in a piece of media outside of a m4rvel property but also why are they all like 12 lmao 7/10

one punch man: caped baldy my beloved 100/10

a simple call of the wild review that is totally professional and not way too detailed by me (February)

It's gonna be a bit of comparing to previous powerwolf albums/songs and remember everything is my own opinion. If you disagree/agree we may talk about it in a civilized way, I actually love talking to others about this shit!

But otherwise (hate, insults, etc.) you can keep your opinion somewhere where I can't see it :) Also, the album has barely been out for a day and things change with time and I may grow to like certain things more. (but there's not too much that I don't like tbh) But I hope you enjoy this metalhead-gremlin's ramblings!

Faster than the flame

I had to listen to it quite a few times before I could say anything about it. It's a powerful start into the new album, however, it is (as previously stated) powerful but didn't blow me away like the first songs on the previous albums. (Fire &forgive, Blessed &possessed, amen & attack - wait am I just now noticing a pattern here? oh my god. Anyway.) Maybe I got that personal feeling that I want it to be Fire & Forgive, which is, of course, not possible and would be boring. So i think I'm not even critizing the song but rather the order of the songs.

It feels like a typical powerwolf song; both lyrics and instrumental. Fast, heavy, something about flames and burning - awesome. The two Latin parts (I think it's called the pre-chorus? man, I have no idea and will just throw around these words because my internet connection is too bad to look this up. But if you listen, you'll know which parts I mean.) already give me goosebumps. I also really, really liked the bridge (again?? idk??) aka the "flame, flame, burning wild in heavens name" part. This was the most memorable part for me after the first time listening. Of course, the guitar arrangement throughout the whole song is just... god bless. I must say that using the word "pastor" is dangerous because my stupid brain keeps thinking Attila is singing about "pasta" again... Oh well, moving on!

Beast of Gevaudan

Man, I've been listening almost non-stop since it was released as a single! At first, my head was comparing it somewhat to army of the night but after a few times this feeling was gone and it became an awesome new idea/song. The choir and orchestra part are so well placed and support the rest of the instrumental and Attila's voice perfectly. Again, much fast, very powermetal. I've grown very fond of the guitar solo. The lyrics tell us a little about the story of the beast and I. Love. Storytelling. In. Songs. Glad matthew finally came around to put his idea out there!

This song also has a video, which left me speechless at first. I love Attila's acting so much??? And making this sort of their own story of Jesus was such a cool idea. Production is high quality as well (didn't expect anything less after The Sacrament of Sin MVs) and there were really nice shots in there. I doubt that I will get tired of this song and this video anytime soon!

Dancing with the dead

That choir stuff in the beginning, following by that awesome guitar riff already had me. I couldn't stop listening to this one either. This might be, in my opinion, the most catchy song on the whole album. The intruments are in perfect harmony with Attila's heavenly voice. The transition into the guitar solo is so damn smooth and well done. I'm having a whole crisis about how good this song is.

The lyrics are interesting too! Again, there's a story to be told. As far as I can interpret it, being introduced to some darker powers and growing to enjoy them, despite previously having lots of faith, is what's going on here. It has this slight feeling of... corruption (in a good way of course). This makes me want to go dancing (with the dead)

This one also has a video! Once again, very high quality. Every band member had their "special moments/shots" and just looked stunning. But Attila left them all behind this time. Slow dancing, in a suit, with that smirk on his lips??? Well done, my dude.

Varcolac

This one's dark and heavy. It brings me back to the good ol' times of Lupus Dei and Bible of the Beast. Just with more orchestra, choir and overall harmony. It makes me so happy that Powerwolf is using so many real life legends and figures on this album! And they did such a good job with them as well. If this song was alive, it would be a scary beast.

The typical metal elements and orchestra/choir parts are very well balanced. And the organ throughout the whole song is fitting. It supports the dark and sinister feeling of the whole thing. My favourite part may be the "And as army we bing fire..." parts! Man, I just love werewolves. Also, I think Attila's famous gibberish singing made a return in this one!

Alive or undead

Oh boy,here we go. The piano in this one is incredible. "Here we STAAAAAAND!" Goosebumps and shivers. Everything about this is so emotional andreading the lyrics while listening just makes me want to cry, ok?! T_T Powerwolf has become so flexible, exploring different ways to make music. This could have been some kind of typical powermetal song but it's not and I'm glad about it.

Even if it's a little different, they never stray to far from what makes them special. The few parts, reminding one of typical church music would not have been necessary but are appreciated! They know when to leave out the guitars and go slowly. What bothers me a little, is that it somehow feels like Attila's voice had a tiny bit more potential up to the chorus. It could've been a little bit softer? if i can put it that way. But honestly this song is raw emotion and everything still fits together. If you thought their first ballad was emotional, buckle up, this one kicked me right in the feels.

Blood for blood (Faoladh)

Powerwolf ventures again into the folk metal territory and successfully conquers it! Could be a headline of something. Anyway, this song is a very worthy successor of Incense & Iron! It just makes me happy, its melody is so light - combined with your typical Powerwolf lyrics. Perfect song to start jumping up and down! It radiates motivational energy. Just like Dancing with the dead, this song has a very smooth transition to the guitar parts.

The melody is strong but still easy enough to quickly get into it! I can barely sit still and write this aaaa. Seriously, I am just happy with this song and will go jump and headbang a while to it!

Glaubenskraft

I have returned from jumping and oh no. It's a German song. Bold of them to go all out on that Latin beginning... it works really well though! It might be because I'm German but this song hits hard. Very hard. It's not easy to make this language sound good and ( if you don't happen to know much about German) the lyrics consist of a bunch of old words and grammar you wouldn't normally use anymore. But they made it fucking work!!! The quiet verses only make the pre-chorus and chorus itself heavier and blow me away. And SOMEHOW this super epic song with (made up, at least I'm pretty sure they don't exist like that) Latin words is about.. you know what Powerwolf writes about a lot. And I LOVE that. It's so subtle and only if you read into it, you're like "wait a minute".

This song has a feeling of corruption too. But not in a good way this time. It feels evil and intimidating and - honestly, I can't get enough of it. Everyone of my neighbours will think I'm some kind of weird Christian fanatic because I WILL yell "Glaubenskraft" just as much as I yelled "Stossgebet". Worth it, tho.

Call of the wild

The song with the same title as the album! (or the other way around, whatever.) This song is just catchy from the beginning to the end. Like many other songs its fast and hard. Just how I like it. Don't take that out of context.

The lyrics and instruments go wild (haha get it), with a really neat Latin pre-chorus. It's very fun to listen to. Personally, it makes me feel like I belong to the pack. That we're strong together, that we can say fuck it once in a while and just go crazy. The chanted part near the end of the song reminds me strongly of Sanctified with dynamite (ya know "die, die dynamite" and "call, call, call of the wild") and it's really cool they pick up on old things once again. Be it intentional or not. It's a reminder that they still are who they were back then - and their music is still fucking incredible.

Simply an epic song, strong vocals, strong guitars. I really, really like the intro. Attila has to sing so many words in such little time, does he even need to breathe now and then?

Now I'm wondering what came first; the album title or the track title? Chicken or the egg?

Sermon of swords

First of all: WHAT IS THAT OMINOUS VOICE IN THE BEGINNING. Mark me down as horny and scared. Ahem.

I really like how the verse and the chorus have their own theme and melody going on and yet they're connected. The chorus is super catchy too! And just say it yourself "Sermon of swords", how cool does it sound??? The choir in the beginning is a really neat introduction into the whole song. The lyrics match the whole album, very much a soundtrack to go on a crusade to, like Raise your fist, Evangelist or Christ & Combat. Just... "AAMEEN!" Ok, I'm actually going insane here, calm down, Feb. These might be my favourite lyrics of the whole album I think?? (unless I said that somewhere else already, then i have more than one favourite.)

The whole song has a more "classical" feeling to it, not only in the Powerwolf sense but also in the Heavy Metal sense in general. BUT. Orchestra and choir are prefectly mixed, especially supporting Attila in the chorus. The guitar solo is really cool and sounds very Greywolf-y, if you know what I mean. It's just Matthew's style.

Undress to confess

The name of this song says it all. This is your friendly reminder that no matter how much they preach about Jesus or the Devil, Powerwolf should not be taken too seriously. When I first saw the title I couldn't help but chuckle a little.

The melody is pretty catchy and easy to remember, the organ and general approach reminds me of Demons are a girl's best friend. I absolutely love how the lyrics are on that thin line of somewhat poetic and ridiculous. Let me provide two examples here: "all the world we posess for desire and sin we carress" - man, this sounds pretty.

And there's also "dressed to hide the dark, and obsessed to ride him hard on the.... crucifix." Yeah, I... I don't know what I expected here. Anyway, this is how you describe church sex without actually using explicit words. (why are you booing me, i'm right)

Still really nice to listen to and have a good time!

Reverent of rats

We arrived at the last song of the album! And here we picked up on the speed and power again! The way the organ is played during the verses makes it so... sinister. Again, this piece reminds me of Lupus Dei. The verses keep the sinister feeling while the chorus picks up more... drama? An epic melody mixed with epic words make my soul ascend to heaven.

This guitar solo is also the absolute good shit. It might be my favourite from all the songs of this album?! Additionally, the drums? I don't know why but they really stand out here. Love how fast paced they are.

Aaaaand that's it! If you've read all the way through holy shit, you are actually a badass. Thank you for staying with me, my werewolf friend. Maybe we'll meet where the wild wolves have gone. But always remember: Metal is religion.

Every song has 3 "reviews": before looking up lyrics, after looking up lyrics and final.

1 – Cheese

BEFORE: Ohh the guitar riff. I am WEAK for guitar in this one. Probably a song I’d play waiting for the traffic light to go green. It has nice, somehow fun beat. But, we definitely could have survived without them naming types of cheese.

AFTER: Heh. A real fuck you in not romantic way.

FINAL: I appreciate the entire idea behind the song. Tho, we still could’ve survived without types of cheese.

2 – Thunderous

BEFORE: Idk why, but beginning reminds me of Rhythm Ta. Yes Changbineeeeeeey take it away.

Did I hear it right? "I’m not sorry, I’m dirty." Babes, are we okay?

Ah yes, Aussie line being more Aussie with each passing day. OMG THAT LAUGH AT 2:03 YES.

Oh I def heard it right, I’m not sorry I’m dirty. Cool, cool, ok. The rapapapam bought me, seriously.

It has very Kingdom!Ateez sound to it which isn’t a bad thing at all, I’m a sucker for Kingdom!Ateez. But… I don’t know, I miss either more intense build-up or beat drop. That would, like, totally kill me and pay for my burial.

AFTER: Oh. Changbin’s part is really, really good. Okay, okay, seriously props to whoever wrote the lyrics. But we really could’ve survived without I’m not sorry, I’m dirty.

Kkundeuri wasseoyo and Gyerani wasseoyo need to have a collab if you know what I mean hehe 😉

FINAL: I feel like my precious I.N had so much fun in this one, so I give bonus points. The song is good, the lyrics are bomb, but the sound lacks intensity. I wish they went with a bit harsher tone, the song would be absolute bomb slap then. All in all, I like it.

3 – Domino

BEFORE: GOING IN STRONG YES. Yeah, goodbye brain, I’ll be going around singing Domino, domino, DOMINO. Yo, that stop and then intense rap at approximately 1:15 is very nice touch.

Don’t kill me, but in my very humble opinion, Chan’s parts feel a bit out of place in the song.

Oh… I don’t like the pace change starting at 2:40…

AFTER: Ah, yet another fuck you, I’ll succeed no matter what you say song.

FINAL: Kinda have a feeling it might grow on me after a few days, but right now… Hm. I don’t know. Maybe one of those songs which need to marinate and which might slap after I come back to them randomly.

4 – Ssick

BEFORE: Oh, the beginning gives me Ikon vibes, yes please. Okay, okay, this drop at 0:50 is really good, I like it very much.

This song has nice transitions and per se, variety, that maybe previous songs lack. For now, my favourite song. It is repetitive, just like the previous ones, and that’s not a bad thing, but I think this one has the best mix of repetitive and filled with variety in beat.

AFTER: 3rd fuck you haters song? I mean sure, fuck haters, but isn’t dedicating 3 songs to them giving them a bit too much attention? This one isn’t just about fuck you tho, it’s also about being there for your friends and I like that aspect. It’s like fuck you to haters and i wuw you to friends and supporters.

Also very, very, very important and positive part of the lyrics is “Oh yeah, I know that I don’t have anything special. But, yeah, do you know that I myself am special?” This, boys, girls, rocks and flowers, this is very valuable lesson. You don’t have to own something special because you are special by just being. Don’t belittle yourself. Even skz is telling you that.

FINAL: From all the fuck you songs this is probably my favorite.

5 – The View

BEFORE: Awww very summery song, very sweet since the beginning. OH SHIT I AM CRYING WTF?

Fuck, this reminds me of a feeling, if you get me, but I don’t know which one? I like it. I LIKE IT SO MUCH. YES. BRING IT ON. BRING ON THE TEARS YES. (i am probably the only person being excited to cry but that says a lot about me sush please).

This is one of the songs I’d LOVE to randomly hear on the radio. Just driving to the beach, vibing you know.

And getting attacked by sudden rap and beat change because why tf not, you know?

AFTER: “Clouds like a submarine swim” I told you, summer vibes.

Ah, fuck. Here, it’s this why I cried. I sensed something in the way they delivered this part of the song and it was this: “The road in front of me seemed dark ‘cause i never ever let it go. Now I feel comfortable, I like it, this feeling and I’ll never ever let it go.” Not to be someone who’ll be like Aha! This is the meaning behind this! but to me this reminds me a lot of feeling stuck with bad self-image, both mentally and physically, and because I said this is like a summer song, my brain immediately goes to all those summers I hated my body and this one being the first summer ever that I didn’t actively hate myself. This part of lyrics is for me like finally breaking out of the shell or maybe a better expression, shedding old skin and just leaving it behind, going forward with new, more positive mentality and a sense of liberation.

“I like the view right now” is like 1) i literally like the view (sunset on beach type of vibe), 2) i like looking at you/myself and realising you’re feeling comfortable around me/yourself/myself, and/or 3) i like this new view on life I have.

Look, I could literally quote entire song and give in depth analysis of on what level they resonate with me, but I won’t do that. I’ll just say these are one of the best lyrics I’ve ever read and they’re so well combined with music ughhh. And the fact this song came at the right time in my life *insert chef’s kiss*

FINAL: I love it. It was really good before I read lyrics and after it’s like three times better. One of my faves on the album.

6 – Sorry, I love you

BEFORE: Nothing special for except for the slight angsty tones I hear. I like it, but nothing crazy. I’d like it to pop up on my playlist occasionally. I think it would be an absolute BOP for me if it was leaning more to the rock genre. Like, a bit slowed down with accent just on guitar and their voices. But, that’s just me always being a sucker for rock ballads. For some reason to me, best ballads and most songs which evoke strong emotion from me are the ones which accentuate the words, the voice and one instrument.

AFTER: Very convinced this song is written by the one who is watching Nevertheless (is it Seungmin? or someone else?). My roommate strongly disagrees with that, but look, I don’t make rules, I think, I say.

FINAL: I hate to admit it but it’s catchy. I’d love live band version of this ngl.

7 – Silent Cry

BEFORE: Interesting intro huh. But something doesn’t sit with me right with the rest of the song. I don’t know what. I really don’t.

AFTER: Yeah sure, hit me with depresso lyrics right in the beginning.

FUCK. The lyrics are really killing me.

FINAL: I just can’t suffer through music. Lyrics are amazing, but idk, music is so not my style and somehow don’t suit the lyrics.

8 – Secret Secret

BEFORE: WAIT WHY DO I HAVE EMOTIONS ALREADY IT’S ONLY BEEN LIKE 10 SECONDS INTO THE SONG. Fuck. I’m on the verge of tears. Imagine listening to this and then Ex I would straight up have emotional breakdown. Yeah, yeah, I’m crying. Leave me alone. The softness, the preciousness, the cuteness, ugh I am broken™.

AFTER: Yeah, fuck. I’m crying again.The lyrics are killing me.

FINAL: This song makes me very emotional, I am a literal mess right now. Kill me, resurrect me, kill me again.

9 – Star Lost

Not my type of song. Like, nothing’s wrong, it’s just so not my type.

10 – Red Lights

BEFORE: Well, the beat drop for sure slaps. The song reminds me of something, it’s either a movie or a song, but I can’t remember. And that’s not a bad thing, I just hate the fact I can’t remember what it reminds me of.

AFTER: “I’m staying up all night again.” I see what you did there, tsch.

“Now tell me you hate me I can’t stand you any longer. But I know, you and me, there’s nothing I can do.” this is very good. I like this.

FINAL: This song could be about so many things. Lust, control problems, feeling of losing yourself, not knowing what your stage personality is and what is real you, anxiety, insomnia, depression… The thing they really managed to do is achieving a level of intensity. I like the song more after I read the lyrics, but I have to say I thought it would be much, much more intense and in your face. I’ll let it crawl in my mind and heart. Slowly. Hehe.

11 – Surfin’

BEFORE: I’m not a fan of summer. Or summer songs. But this is good. Wtf. Something’s going on with me lol. I have nothing much to say, I like the song, that’s it hahah.

AFTER: Felix talking about working 24/7 isn’t something I thought I’d hear in such a summery song.

“My head is overheated just like my laptop.” yo Changbin, mood.

FINAL: I hate summer songs, but this one slaps. This is the only summer song I’ll ever love and accept. Absolute bop.

I was first introduced to the Skam universe through a remake, but I’m always so fascinated to find people who watched OG Skam first and then proceeded to watch most or all of the remakes even though they don’t really seem like big fans of the OG. So I’m curious—what drove you to watch remakes? Have you just grown more indifferent toward OG Skam over the years since you first watched or maybe you were hoping to see the remakes improve on it? (You can totally ignore this if you want to btw lol)

oh man anon you don’t even realize this but this is a question and a half for me skjnfskndfs i’m gonna try my best to keep things relatively basic and straightforward tho

so here’s the truth: og skam actually ranks among some of the most memorable shows i’ve ever seen. yes, i have a lot of criticisms of it. i had a lot of criticisms when i first watched it and i have even more now that i’ve had time and distance. but i also think og skam is one of the best made teen shows i’ve ever seen. the real time format, the transmedia aspect, the themes explored, the way the show really takes its time with its clips and its characters, how the show treats the issues its characters are going through seriously despite them being young characters [or perhaps in some ways because of that] - as much guff as i give julie andem i do believe she created something really special with og skam. and my favorite thing about it was always the format, which was notably one of the things remakes were contractually obligated to keep.

[worth noting i have a history of being into shows with a similar format, actually. a few years before skam i was really into literary adaptation vlogseries - if you’ve ever heard of the lizzie bennet diaries, think shows that fit that particular subgenre of online content - and many of them did things like create social media accounts for their characters that would update in real time and drop episodes in real time without intro music or credits to simulate “real life” vlogs. skam does many of the same things but, like, with more polish and a specific focus on creating stories for teenagers. my point is i was basically primed to enjoy shows in this format.]

so i think at least some of the appeal of the remakes was in the format of the show for sure. hm, what else what drew me to the remakes? i’ve always been kind of fascinated by, like, the meta of adaptations and the way they interact with the Canon and such. i mean i’ve been into fanfic for so long which i think speaks for itself, and also my interest in lit vlogseries was in large part because i loved seeing what choices writers would make to adapt old classics i already love and know for a new environment. like i just really find that kind of thing super interesting, to think of how new stories respond to their predecessors! so i find skamverse honestly a really, really fascinating thing to follow for that reason. i mean how often do you get to see a bunch of different teams try to adapt the source material for a new audience, arriving at different choices and conclusions in terms of how to adapt the same story, all at the same time? it’s so interesting to follow, i love seeing what parts of og canon new teams decide to keep and discard and update, i love seeing how the remakes being specifically for different cultures affect the writing, honestly it’s just all been very fun for me to follow.

also - probably helps that i was very, very invested in og seasons 3 and 4. always helps to actually be a fan of the characters and stories that are being adapted ad nauseam lol. admittedly i don’t like s1 as much [though i understand why it’s so beloved by this fandom!] and i dislike s2 so much that i’ve skipped out on most of the s2 remakes [although... not as many as you might anticipate skdjfnsdk] but i do feel that s1 is really important for establishing the themes and goals and characters of the show, which is why i’ve seen as many versions of it as i have.

Last thing i want to say is - yeah honestly another big reason is the opportunity the remakes present for telling more diverse stories than the og had the capability of telling. i was pretty lukewarm about the remakes up until skam austin started dropping and it was immediately apparent that they had adapted their eva into a girl of color and their isak into a black girl who might possibly be a lesbian, which sort of made me sit up and think, oh okay, there might actually a chance of getting to see characters i actually relate to more in the context of this show i love. are there other shows and other stories i can get well-written and diverse representation from? of course there are and there always has been, but it’s also nice to get those things from a franchise i already have a special place in my heart for [albeit a simultaneously quite complicated one].

tl;dr - i actually did [and still do, in many ways] have a special place in my heart for og skam; i’m a huge nerd about the Meta of it all; and it’s been really rewarding for me to see the remakes attempt to build on og skam in unique and diverse ways. i hope that makes sense, anon!
