Broccoli on pizza is amazing!
I know. It probably sounds awful. But I swear it's delicious!
Tumblr media
I had picked up a slice of pizza from Whole Foods last month and it was a chicken and broccoli alfredo pizza. I figured I'd give it a try.
Sooooooooo good! Granted, I love roasted broccoli, which is what it tastes like.
A few weeks ago, we had picked up a cheese pizza for dinner Friday night. I had black olives and broccoli for other reasons and decided to go ahead and put them on my half of the pizza. Hubby's half got covered in pepperoni. Ever the carnivore.
Tumblr media
It's fresh broccoli on the pizza. I'm sure frozen works too, but it would definitely be a different experience. Last night we did the same thing for dinner. I went out earlier to get some broccoli and mushrooms specifically so I could put them, along with black olives, on my half. Still delicious!

The NYADA Vegans Club
Summary: A cute guy catches Blaine’s eye and draws him to a meeting of the NYADA Vegans Club. Except Blaine is very, definitely not a vegan.
Read on AO3
"This meeting of the NYADA Vegans Club is now in session!"
Blaine jumped as the sound of a gavel hitting wood cracked through the air. The NYADA Vegans Club? Had he heard that right?
When he had followed that hot freshman guy into the room, he'd hoped it would be a meeting for something much more in line with his interests. He couldn't honestly sit through a meeting of a club that actively promoted not eating cheese for a guy he knew nothing about. Could he?
"I see many new faces this year, so let's go around and introduce ourselves. I'm Jay, the president of the NYADA Vegans. I've been a vegan for six years. And you?" Jay gestured to where Blaine stood half in and half out the doorway. "Will you be joining us?"
Blaine saw the hot guy give a small laugh at his expense as he tried to decide whether he was coming or going.
Coming, he decided upon making eye contact with his new crush.
"I'm Blaine and being vegan is something I've dedicated my life to."
He didn't know where the lie came from, but there was no taking it back once it was out. He watched as the guy's friend —a cute, small, brunette — poked his arm and made no secret of winking pointedly in Blaine's direction.
Introductions continued around the room until Blaine learned that the hot guy was named Kurt, a baby vegan of just 6 months, and his friend was named Rachel, a fellow lifelong vegan.
Blaine hadn't given much consideration to what might happen at a vegan club meeting, so he couldn't say he was surprised when anti-animal product PSAs began playing on a large screen in the room. Shortly after the videos ended, they were instructed to break, and when the meeting resumed, they would be writing letters to local restaurants encouraging the use of more vegan products.
With the excuse of wanting to stretch his legs, Blaine walked over to where Kurt and Rachel were helping themselves to cups of almond milk and dairy-free cookies.
"There he is!" he heard Rachel whisper loudly to Kurt. "Say hi!"
"Oh my god, Rachel, way to be discreet. Hi," Kurt said, extending his hand toward Blaine. "I'm Kurt, and this is Rachel, who has yet to master the art of subtlety."
Kurt's hand felt warm and perfect in his. "Blaine."
"We remember. The lifelong vegan. Impressive."
"Yeah," Blaine said, trying not to wrinkle his nose at the lie. "Thanks. So are you two freshmen? I think I recognize you from orientation."
"Oh phew," Kurt pretended to wipe his brow. "I thought I recognized you from orientation, too, but I didn't want to be the first creep to admit it."
Blaine blushed and looked at his feet, trying to figure out how to run from the room and never see Kurt again without looking like too much of a loser.
"Relax, Blaine." Kurt laughed and put a reassuring hand on his bare forearm. "I was kidding."
"Oh thank god, I thought I was going to have to switch schools."
They all laughed at Blaine's dramatics and continued on with a light conversation. Blaine was thrilled to notice that Kurt's eyes lingered on him as they spoke, and that he laughed the loudest at Blaine's jokes.
They chatted through the letter writing activity and stayed long past the end of the meeting, discussing their histories with show choir and their favorite musicals and what their upcoming college career could hold in store.
When they finally parted to go home to apartments on opposite sides of the city, Blaine couldn't deny that following Kurt into that meeting was the best dumb choice he'd ever made.
Blaine went back for the next meeting, and then the next. The subject matter may have been less than stimulating, but the scenery was gorgeous and the conversation wasn't bad either. He and Kurt were having a great time getting to know each other, but neither came right out and flirted openly or made plans outside of Vegan Club. Instead, they sent each other looks with dopey smiles on their faces when they thought nobody was paying attention, and blushed bashfully when they were caught.
When it became clear that neither of them would be making any moves, Rachel took it upon herself to intervene. She invited Blaine over for a five course vegan meal at her and Kurt's loft, and he accepted immediately.
While Blaine saw the merits of vegan products, and had even thoroughly enjoyed some of the snacks offered at Vegan Club, he couldn't say he was looking forward to an entirely vegan meal. But he was one to try anything, and since Kurt — who somehow got more attractive every time they saw each other — was involved, he would definitely be trying Rachel's feast.
"Blaine's here!" he heard Rachel yell from the other side of the door. He tightened his already too-tight grasp on the wine he'd had his roommate buy for him and waited for someone to answer his knock.
The heavy door slid open, and Blaine couldn't decide if he should stare at Kurt or the apartment. Kurt, as usual, won out.
"You look amazing," he said as he pulled a surprised, but flattered, Kurt into a hug.
"Thank you, so do you."
"Your apartment is incredible," Blaine gushed, looking around. "It's giving me chic RENT vibes."
"Kurt decorated most of it," Rachel told him from her spot by the stove. She lifted the spoon she was holding. "Broccoli vegan cheddar soup! Are you ready to eat?"
It turned out that vegan cheddar was not exactly Blaine's preferred cheese. And that meatless meatloaf wasn't his preferred entrée. There was a little hope for the vegan strawberry cheesecake. At least, it looked mouthwatering.
"Kurt made this one," Rachel announced as she set the plates in front of them. "He worked on it all last night, so I'm sure it will be wonderful."
Blaine took a bite and closed his eyes with the overwhelming deliciousness of the cake.
"Wow, Kurt, I've never had a vegan dessert so good. You've got to share the recipe with me!"
Kurt shook his head. "Sorry, secret family recipe."
"Oh well, guess you'll just have to keep making it for me, then," Blaine teased. He stood and headed to the kitchen. "Shall I get the new bottle of wine from the fridge?"
"No!" Kurt said, a little too loudly, pushing back from the table and beating Blaine to the fridge, standing in front of it. "You're our guest. Please sit and I'll get it."
Blaine returned to the table to find Rachel trying her best to hide a laugh, but he didn't ask.
After the dessert plates were cleared, they settled on the couch to watch a movie. At first, Blaine had thought Rachel was acting as Kurt's wingman by asking him to their apartment for dinner and a movie, and that she'd do the classic "I'm going to bed" and slip away to leave the two men alone, but she never did. She stayed the entire movie, curled up on the other side of Kurt. Blaine rested his hand on the couch next to him, inching his way toward where Kurt's hand lay, brushing their fingers together every so often and sending a jolt of excitement though his arm. He wanted to chance putting an arm around Kurt, but with Rachel so close, it would have been awkward.
By the time he hugged the two roommates goodnight and left, Blaine knew he couldn't waste any more time. He was going to ask Kurt out.
———
After enduring another excruciatingly boring Vegan Club meeting, Blaine finally asked Kurt on a date. His heart soared when Kurt said yes without hesitation.
That Saturday evening, Blaine and Kurt met in front of the student center on campus. After overtly admiring each other for a few seconds, Kurt spoke up.
"I'm really glad you had the balls to ask me out. I put on a good show of confidence, but when it comes to boys, that's all it is — a show. If you hadn't asked, we'd probably still be staring at each other all cutesy and pretending we only like each other as friends two years down the road."
"I'm glad too, then. I'm not afraid to make big moves. They almost always backfire on me somehow, but…" he shrugged. "Can't win if you never play the game!"
Kurt gave a laugh-snort. "You're like a walking motivational poster."
"Kurt," Blaine said, looking at him seriously. "You've gotta risk it to get the biscuit."
Their laughter carried them all the way to the restaurant, a small bistro tucked away from most of the nearby foot traffic.
Cozied up in the round, plush booth where they were directed, the waiter interrupted their conversation to take their order.
"I'll have the house salad with balsamic vinaigrette and a cup of the vegan minestrone soup, please," Blaine said, longing for something more substantial, but selecting the only vegan options on the menu.
Kurt gave him a weird look, then ordered for himself. "I would like the filet mignon."
Blaine's smile faltered. "What? Kurt! Are you falling off the wagon?"
"I need to tell you something." Kurt turned to Blaine, their waiter temporarily forgotten. "I am not now, nor have I ever been, vegan. I was only at Vegan Club that night because I promised Rachel I would go with her to the first meeting. Then I couldn't stop going because of...well, you."
Kurt's face looked terrified, like he was worried Blaine might up and leave the date due to his confession. Instead, Blaine laughed.
"Oh, thank god!"
"What?" Kurt seemed confused yet relieved.
"I've never been vegan a day in my life either. I'd noticed you from day one of orientation and I thought you were the cutest guy I'd ever seen. So I followed you into Vegan Club without knowing it was Vegan Club, because I thought you'd be more likely to go out with me if we shared interests."
"Oh my god. You can't be serious." Kurt was wheeze-laughing so hard he collapsed into Blaine's chest. Blaine put his arms around Kurt and pulled him closer before remembering the waiter who was slowly backing away from their table with an amused expression.
"Wait!" Blaine called. "I'd like to change my order to the six cheese pizza, if that's okay."
That only made Kurt lose it even further. "I can't believe this." He settled down enough that he straightened out and looked into Blaine's eyes. "You're perfect."
"You're perfect," Blaine responded.
"And we're perfect together," they sang the Wicked line at the same time.
The magic of the moment led them into a tender first kiss that knocked them sideways until Blaine pulled back just enough to whisper, "That amazing cheesecake you made last week wasn't really vegan, was it?"

Oh man, we just tried your chicken pot pie pizza and it is *so* *good*. Seriously, it's amazing, thanks for sending it to me. 💜💜💜
Thank you! It’s a favorite in the household!
And so I will give it to everyone!
Chicken Pot Pie Pizza: A relatively quick, relatively healthy meal that can use up your leftovers pretty well. (This is from memory so it may vary SLIGHTLY from the recipe I sent geeky)
You will need:
Pizza dough, either made by yourself or a bag bought
leftover vegetables that might go in a pot pie. You don’t need very much! Just a handful. Broccoli, onions, carrots, peas, celery (for the sake of the calorie count, if using, no potato. If using potato, make sure it’s precooked)
small handful flour
cup of chicken broth
like a cup of leftover precooked chicken
1/2 cup cheese (I use whatever I have lying around to be honest)
olive oil (for veg)
Butter (1 tbsp)
Seasoning: salt, pepper, I like dill, you could use mustard, or thyme, etc etc.
Equipment: Cast iron skillet, about 10.25-12 inch
1. Put your skillet in the oven and preheat to 500 degrees F/260 C.
2. using some oilve oil, saute your onion (and garlic if you’re using that to season), once it’s sauteed a bit, saute the rest of your vegetables with it. Set it aside in a bowl or something.
3. Using that same skillet, melt your butter and then add flour, making a roux paste. once it’s paste like add your chicken broth to make a sauce. This is where I season! Bring to a boil and simmer until it’s thickened. You can also add a little milk or cream if that turns you on. (Again, this means you can’t rely on my calorie count below)
4.  THE TRICKEST PART. Take your dough and pull it into a roughly circular shape that will fit your skillet. EXTREMELY CAREFULLY, take your skillet out of the oven (I generally put cornmeal on the bottom of it to help the dough release) and place the dough into bottom of the skillet, VERY CAREFULLY pulling it up the sides.
5. Put it back in the oven and cook for like five minutes. Should be light brown. Remove from the oven again, switching the oven over to broil. Put the sauce, veggies, and cheese on top, and then broil until the cheese is browned and bubbling to your liking.
EAT!
Cal count: 1/4 of pizza for approx 350 calories.

“you wanna know what zeus said to narcissus?  /  ‘you’d better watch yourself’“
Do you change your type of music regularly? Nah. I've ben all about metal and rock since middle school. Would you want to visit Tokyo, Japan, someday? It's not actually on my bucket list or anything, but I'd do it. Do you curse like a sailor? Sailors are better than I am, aha... Do you hear trains pass by where you live? No. Ever been in a race? Haha, no. Last time you’ve eaten a taco? I hate tacos. Do you like horses? Sure do! Do you like Starburst? omg YES. What is your favourite wild animal? MEERKATS!!!!!! :') Do you like hamsters? They're very cute, but I've never met a nice one. Do you eat bananas? Yeah, I like bananas, but I'm VERY picky with how ripe it is. There's like, barely a two-day span where I'm willing to eat them. What is your favourite bookstore? I don't have one. What is your favorite fast food joint? Sonic. Do you sweat easily? Ugh, you haven't the slightest idea. As a side effect of one (or two?) of my prescriptions, I have I N S A N E hyperhidrosis. I can stand outside for a millisecond in like 70 degree weather and I'm already sweating. If you could move (and SERIOUSLY think about this) where would you move? All factors considered, being entirely realistic, the mountain-y region of western NC. Why would you go there? I want to stay in NC to at least not be a massive ways away from my family, and I loooove mountains. Plus, there's a lot of cool places on the other end of the state. Do you want to travel? Yes. I want to see so much more than this boring 'ole state. What was the last vaccination you got? For Covid. Have there ever been any forest or grass fires in your area? There have been wildfires towards the beach, I believe? Any time it happened we would always get the smoke all the way where we live. Are you Italian? Not to my knowledge. Do you own an acoustic guitar? No. What is something you have given a lot of thought to lately? My physical health. When did you last swallow your beliefs to avoid an argument or confrontation? Recently. Can you roll your own cigarettes? I've never smoked, so. Are you mentally strong? I think so. I hope so. Are you physically strong? I am like, comically weak. Are you heartbroken right now? No. Do you ever get complimented on your eyes? What color are they? It's happened, but it's definitely not a regular thing or whatever. They're grayish blue. What facial feature do you like the best on a person? I'd say I'm most attracted to pretty eyes. What is the weirdest animal you’ve ever held? I helped hold a massive snake as a kid (I don't remember what it was), and I've also held a rose hair tarantula. I can't think of any truly strange animals by my opinion, really. Do you get extremely hyper when under the influence of sugar? No. Sugar seems to have zero effect on me, probably because I'm over-exposed to it thanks to soda... What about caffeine? Not at all, likely for the aforementioned reason. Have you ever tried any drugs? If so, did you regret it? Besides alcohol, no. I don't regret having drank as it was never a lot. Do you have any pregnant friends? A high school acquaintance is pregnant. I THINK she's the only one now? I swear I see a new pregnancy announcement on Facebook like every two days, and mind you I don't even have all that many "friends." That being said, I may definitely be forgetting someone. When ordering food, what do you usually get as a drink? Depending on whether they have Pepsi or Coke products, either Mountain Dew or Coke. When drawing something, do you try to be super precise or do you not care? I am so, so, SO obsessive over getting everything right, but things never come out as good as I want them to/imagine them. Have you actually read Twilight? I haven't. What about Harry Potter? Never read any of those, either. I started one in elementary school, but didn't get very far at all. Out of the two, which is better? I have like no interest in either, so. How often do you read books? It various. I go through like reading episodes, and then I don't read for months. Are you the jealous type? I'm not like, an insanely jealous person, but it's still the worst it's ever been at this point in my life. I hate it. Are you the type of person who gets jealous of people’s pasts? Nah, no reason to. Do you know anyone who faints at the sight of blood? Not blood, I think, but needles and drawing blood, yes. I know my dad's fainted at least once at the doctor, and Jason fainted when I was getting blood drawn at the ER. What colors are the eyes of your family members? Just about everyone has brown eyes but me, I think my maternal grandpa, and my brother. Are you related to anyone with red hair? Not to my knowledge. Were you a chubby baby? No, I was pretty average. What’s something that makes you incredibly nervous? Social situations with strangers especially. Asking for things. Public speaking/presenting. What’s the latest you’ve ever stayed up to finish homework/a project? God, I remember there was this one night in particular where I stayed up SO late, but I don't remember the exact time. I think I actually cried because I was so stressed and tired. How many vegetarians do you know? In my personal life, I don't believe I know any, but I could be wrong. Have you ever had problems falling asleep in class? I never did, even though I was always tired. Have you ever been on the barrier or front row at a concert? No. Favorite episode of Spongebob? The pizza one, probably. Or the Hash Slinging Slasher episode. What bug frightens you most? Wasps, probably. Are your parents supportive of you? Yes. <3 How often do you take the train to go places? Can you rap freestyle? Or at least sing raps from songs? Ha, no. Have you ever shared a house with a significant other? Yeah. Do you scream at scary parts in a horror flick? No. I might jump a bit, but not always. What do you spend most of your time doing? Watching YouTube. Do you really care what’s going on in celebrities' lives? More like the YouTubers I watch. Have you ever broken a plate/bowl? Accidentally by dropping them. When was the last time you felt like you didn’t have a care in the world? I couldn't begin to guess. Has anyone ever drunk called/texted you? No. Can you do a backwards london bridges? God no, I'd bust my back. What smiley do you use the most on the computer? (: maybe. Or :') Are any of your pets “overweight”? No, but why is "overweight" in quotations as if overweight pets aren't a real and serious issue? Has anyone ever bought you a ring? Yeah. On a scale 1-10, how funny are you? I honestly don't think I'm funny at all, so I'd put myself at a 1. Pretty recently though it was very surprising and flattering to have my dad and older sister point out that I'm "hilarious" with my wry sense of humor. I don't see it, but I mean, it was surely appreciated. What’s a song that is overplayed but you still like it anyway? I barely ever listen to the radio, yet I still know "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen is played a lot, but I could never get tired of it. Are you excited for Christmas? Christmastime is my favorite time of year nowadays, mainly because of how excited my niece and nephew always are, and we spend most of Christmas Day and usually Christmas Eve with them. I love the weather, the focus on togetherness, all that. What are you thankful for? Man, a lot. I try my best to never overlook all the truly amazing things I do have, like a loving and supportive family, a home, food and safe water, Internet haha, access to medical care (regardless of the complaints I have about American healthcare)... I've got a lot of bad going on in my life, but I've also got a great amount of good things, too. What do you think would be the hardest thing for you to give up on? Internet. What’s your favorite color combination? Maaan, don't do this. I really don't know. Probably two pastels, idk. Do you have any internet friends? I have more Internet friends than I do "real life" ones. What was the last song you listened to? "Deep Six" by Marilyn Manson earlier. How are you feeling right now? My arm is really sore from my second Covid shot, and I'm also having trouble breathing thanks to the dog (apparently, I'm allergic to whatever she is). I know it sounds bad, but I cannot wait 'til she's gone (from this house, no we're of course not euthanizing her). What color is the shirt you’re wearing? Burgundy. Do you play video games? Yeah, just not as much as I used to. Have you ever been to a club and had someone slip something into your drink? I've never been to a club period, and I don't plan on it. Do you know anyone who’s done ecstasy? Not to my knowledge, anyway. Are you on birth control? Yes, but only to regulate and soothe my menstrual cycle. My cramps were insufferable prior. Does your sibling have a significant other? All but my younger sister. Like she's in contact with who she calls "contenders," haha, but she isn't officially dating anyone. She's MEGA picky with who she dates. Have you ever cried at a real wedding? Yes, because it was very triggering to my PTSD. Any idea what you want for your next birthday? That's quiiite a whiles away, so I have plenty of time to think about that. I don't know if I'll be employed by then and thus able to buy some things myself, but I'll just say I won't be (because I'm I think rationally fearful that's where I'll still be). For Christmas I plan on just asking for a new terrarium for Venus plus better materials for it (like a proper temp gauge and hygrometer, etc.), and with that taken care of, then I might be interested in asking for a hognose for my bday, but idk. I'd want to ensure (s)he starts out with a perfect terrarium, and seeing as I want a hoggie morph, that's a lot of money in one go that idk if I'd be comfortable asking. So I'unno, maybe I'll go for a tattoo again. Wow, this was a lot of rambling for something so far off, pardon me haha. Are there any gadgets of yours that need charging right now? My Nintendo DS Lite, actually. I can't find the darn charger for it, and I really need to so I can bring it to Ashley's again for the kids to play the Pokemon game I have that they love. Aubree especially is really into it, and she adores Pikachu and Eevee. :') Which awards show would you wanna go to the most (e.g Oscars, Grammys etc.)? I don't even know what most award shows are for, if I'm being honest. I'm not really interested. What colour is your keyboard? Black, but each key glows red. Have you ever been called a skank/slut because of the way you dress? No. Are you a fan of acrylic nails? Not for myself; I think they'd drive me insane. I do, however, think they look nice on others.

See I think the problem is sweden is just.. cold amshnsdhdj we can’t really grow spices here so throughout the times it’s just been salt and pepper (until we started importing spice from the colonies like we thought we were the brits lmao) but traditional swedish food is like??? Potatoes and meatballs with lingonberry jam and sometimes you make the sauce out of the fat you fried the meatballs in and it’s gross. I’ve never been to Germany actually but that restaurant sounds disgusting I’m so sorry what are they doingggg. THANKFULLy we have so much food imported from pretty much everywhere that most people’s favourite foods is almost always something that didn’t originate here. Like tacos!! It’s a staple in pretty much any household here, at least where I grew up, and one of my friends is obsessed with Indian food, specifically vindaloo which is so so spicy but so good. As for the cream cheese sushi, at the restaurant here they put it in the maki rolls with veggies and a piece of omelet, i cannot stress how good it is ahaha. I love food so much!!! I don’t think I’ve ever eaten anything Brazilian specifically, but since we’re talking about it I’m really curious. If you have a specific dish or anything you think I should try let me know!! I’m gonna ask google but it’s always fun to get tips from someone who is living with the culture behind it and everything!! - salmon anon (salmnon? salmanon? Swenson? I actually wrote swenon but my phone corrected me so I’m leaving it skhdkshd)
aaaa okay so when it comes to brazilian food you gotta understand that there’s...... so much stuff. our cuisine is super varied and rich and there’s just... a lot. so it all depends on what strikes your fancy. but i have a few suggestions, although keep in mind that again, brazilian cuisine is varied and rich and it’s a big country, so i have the mos contact with food from my region (the southeast), although i’ve been to the northeast, north, and south as well
so the basis of culinary in most brazilian households is the rice + beans + farofa combo. farofa is basically cassava flour with spices, it is made to add Big Crunch to the meal. we eat that in every meal, except for breakfast. it’s kinda the foundation/pillar of the plate. i do recommend trying it, absolutely. the most likely version of that for you to find is feijoada, which is a little stereotypical as far as brazilian dishes go, but i doubt you’d find regular rice beans and farofa around in a small town in sweden. in feijoada the beans come with pork parts, and it’s black beans, not regular beans. it is also traditionally served with kale and orange slices. it’s really good, personally i love it
Tumblr media
[image ID: a plate with kale, rice, farofa (which is sandy-colored and has a grainy consistency), orange slices, and feijoada. end ID]
another great dish worth a try is moqueca. moqueca is (usually) fish/shrimp, coconut milk, dendê oil, bell peppers, and other spices. it takes cilantro so if you are a little bitch, i mean, if you don’t like it, you might skip that one. it is also usually served with farofa or pirão, which is essentially farofa but moist
Tumblr media
[image ID: a pot of moqueca. it looks soup-like and has very vibrant colors, particularly red, yellow, ad green. you can see pieces of bell pepper and chopped cilantro in it. end ID]
i do recommend trying anything palm-heart related if you haven’t. palm heart pies are one of my favorite things. and okay i know that you probably won’t be able to find this but i doubt you’ll be able to find most things i’m talking about so i’m just gonna dream big here: catupiry is this kind of brazilian... cream cheese, except it’s creamier and tastier and just superior in general. we love putting it on shit, and when it comes to stuffing, palm heart + catupiry or chicken + catupiry are my favorites
i also love bobó de palmito na moranga, which is essentially palm heart inside very creamy squash. the most common version actually takes shrimp instead of palm heart, but i don’t like shrimp and they’re not super accessible in my city anyway lol
Tumblr media
[image ID: a carved pumpkin with shrimp swimming in a creamy mixture of squash, coconut milk, and catupiry inside. end ID]
escondidinho is another great dish. it means “little hidden one” in portuguese and it is cassava puree with dried meat inside, gratinated. there’s also a version with mashed potatoes, ground beef, and tomato sauce, but cassava is better. honestly just go for anything cassava. it’s the basis of native brazilian culinary and it’s fucking delicious. fried cassava, roasted cassava, cassava puree.... if you’ve never had them, they’re like potatoes, but better in every way. and don’t get me wrong, cuz i love potatoes
anything from the state of minas gerais FUCKS and is highly recommendable. tutu de feijão might look bad for a gringo but i promise it’s worth a try. feijão tropeiro is amazing, and chicken with okra is one of my fave brazilian dishes. it’s also easy to make so you can make it at home, even. just don’t forego the rice beans and farofa. my eastern european friend had never seen okra so if you look it up, no, that is not pepper. it’s not spicy. seriously i know yall are afraid of everything but it’s not
as for snacks! one of the greatest institutions in brazil is coxinha. coxinha is a potato-based batter stuffed with chicken (and usually catupiry as well although coxinha without catupiry is also commonly found) and deep fried. you cannot have a kids party and not serve it, it is absolutely essential. but it is also eaten as a regular snack commonly. it is super good, everyone loves it, and i highly recommend
Tumblr media
[image ID: a plate of coxinhas. they are round-ish thingies with a “beak” on top, making it look almost like a pyramid. they are orange-golden in color and have a distinctly deep fried texture. end ID]
another great institution is pão de queijo, which i’ll admit i’m not a fan of because i don’t like cheese (catupiry doesn’t count) but i can’t just forego mentioning it. it takes polvilho, which is tapioca (which is a derivation of cassava, i’ll get there in a minute) flour, with cheese, basically. it gets a fluffy consistency that is hard to describe and that many people love. it is most traditional in the state of minas gerais, but you can find it all over brazil and also in other places in south america although recipes vary
Tumblr media
[image ID: a bowl of pão de queijo. they are small, round, and white-ish. they have a very thin hard-looking layer on the exterior, but it also has cracks that make you able to see that the inside is fluffy. end ID]
tapioca! you might have heard of tapioca as the bubbles in bubble tea are made of it. it is a kind of cassava flour, but it’s very different from the cassava flour used to make farofa. it is white in color. you just put that motherfucker in a frying pan (no oil needed) and the grains stick to each other, making a sort of... taco-like thing? it doesn’t taste like a taco but it looks slightly like one. then you just stuff it with Whatever You Want. can be savory or sweet, personally i prefer savory but the "classic” one is coconut and condensed milk. another good stuffing to try is what we call romeu e julieta (literally “romeo and juliet”), which is a cheese that we know as queijo minas, but if you have contact with mexican food you might know as queso fresco, and guava paste. i know it sounds weird which is why it has the name as these two things are not supposed to be together but they go WELL together. romeu e julieta is a common dessert and the basis for thousands and thousands of other recipes in brazil
Tumblr media
[image ID: a plate with tapioca. it has the form of a taco, but the “batter” is thinner and white. the inside is coconut and condensed milk. end ID]
speaking of tapioca, DADINHO DE TAPIOCA (tapioca dice) is where shit’s at. it is tapioca flour with cheese rolled into a dice format and fried, served with pepper jam, altho you can forego it, but i DO recommend trying it with the pepper jam. it is not super spicy and so so very good. don’t waste an opportunity to try it
Tumblr media
[image ID: dadinhos de tapioca. they are small cubic snacks with a golden color and granulated-looking texture. there is also a little bowl with pepper jam in it. end ID]
and an ESSENTIAL brazilian institution: pastel and caldo de cana. pastel is a flour-based batter with a bit of cachaça (sugarcane liquor) stuffed with Whatever You Want (most common tho are ground beef, and cheese. but personally i’m always a slut for palm heart and there’s a local pizza place near my home that also makes pastel with whatever flavor you could possibly want and broccoli with catupiry pastel? PEAK) and deep fried. it is kinda big for a snack but bro it is so very good. and then we usually have it with caldo de cana, which is sugarcane juice. now, caldo de cana is very sweet, so personally i like to put a little bit of lemon in it, which is how we usually make it in the state of São Paulo, but other states lowkey look down on that (brazilians as a whole have a sweet tooth, many of our desserts are Really Sweet) but they are wrong and we are right. anyway, pastel and caldo de cana are usually served at street markets, so once you are done with your groceries, you can sit down and enjoy some. highly recommended altho again i’ll be surprised if you can find any in sweden. but pastel is not hard to make! caldo de cana is tho, you have to have kind of a machine to extract the juice from it
Tumblr media
[image ID: pastel and caldo de cana. pastel is a long, golden-colored, thin rectangle with, in this case, cheese inside. caldo de cana is of a brownish-green with a regular juice consistency. end ID]
onto desserts! an all-time brazilian favorite is brigadeiro. that is condensed milk, butter, and cocoa with chocolate sprinkles, essentially. i recommend using dark chocolate as it is otherwise really sweet but it depends on your tastes. do try it tho
Tumblr media
[image ID: brigadeiros. they are little balls completely covered in chocolate sprinkles, each places in a smal paper holder. end ID]
romeu in julieta as i already mentioned is very popular and seriously, give it a try
if you’re into sweet stuff, try rapadura, which is our version of piloncillo. it is like 90% sugar tho so seriously, you gotta like sweets
pé de moleque, which literally translates to “boy’s foot”, is rapadura and roasted peanuts, and it’s one of my all time favorite desserts
Tumblr media
[image ID: a plate of pé de moleque. they are thick rectangles with almost entire roasted peanuts parts stuck together by a rich brown sort of batter - rapadura. end ID]
paçoca is also grounded peanuts with a little bit of salt and sugar, usually coming in a cork format. they are absolutely amazing and i can’t recommend them enough
Tumblr media
[image ID: paçoca. it literally just looks like a small cork, even the color is similar. looks like something totally underwhelming but i promise you it’s so so very good and worth a try. end ID]
and okay i think that’s what i have!! at least off the top of my head (yeah that’s just what i came up with off the top of my head. like i said. brazilian cuisine is RICH) sorry for the gigantic answer that is probably not very helpful, but welp, now you know what to look for, at least lol also if you’ve followed me for over a year you should have known i would do this. BITCH I’M LATINO FOOD MATTERS TO ME

I was thinking of a prompt where Holden doesn't eat when he's stressed out or exhausted; it's just the furthest thing from his mind. Bill notices one day and cooks him a well-balanced meal and makes him eat every bite. Holden is speechless because no one has ever been so thoughtful and kind toward him before.
This is so sweet 😭 I also relate to Holden in this aspect a lot because I tend to get very focused on what I’m doing (usually writing lol) and forget to eat for hours at a time. I love the concept of Bill thinking about this, and wanting to take care of him in the most basic, essential way possible. Thanks for the prompt!💕
By five-thirty, the BSU basement is deserted, and nearly everyone has gone home for the day. The single light at Holden’s desk casts muted, white light across the stacks of case files, and the crime scene photos arranged in a neat row at the top of his desk. He has two notebooks - one for victim observations, another for the preliminary profile - and both are filled with three pages of scribbled notes so far.
They’d arrived back from a two-week long consult in Texas early this morning, and he’d been greeted with a stack of new requests that had accumulated during their absence. Keen on tackling the mountain before it grows any larger, he’d buried his head in profiles for the better part of the day, stopping once to eat some chips from the vending machine when the growling in his stomach became too incessant. Several hours later, the thought of eating has tapered off to a dull hum in the back of his mind.
Holden is so engaged in the profile that he doesn’t hear Bill approach until a hand on his shoulder jolts him out of his pensive reverie.
“Shit, sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.” Bill says as Holden leans back in his chair, clutching at his chest.
“It’s okay.”
“You almost ready to leave?” Bill asks, shooting a pointed glance at his watch. “It’s getting pretty late.”
“I’m almost done with this.”
“Are they expecting it back tonight?”
“No.”
“Then it can wait ‘til tomorrow.” Bill says, giving Holden’s shoulder a nudge. “Come on.”
“I’m this close.” Holden says, pinching less than a half inch of space between his thumb and forefinger.
“You haven’t moved from this desk all day.” Bill says, gently taking Holden’s pen out of his hand and setting it aside. “Have you eaten?”
Holden starts to nod, and Bill casts him a stern frown.
“Other than vending machine snacks?”
Holden purses his lips, gathering an irked glare. “No, but it’s fine. I’m not that hungry.”
Bill shakes his head, and silently begins putting all of the crime scene photos back in the folders.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Holden asks.
“Making you give yourself a break.” Bill says, snatching the two notebooks from in front of Holden and flipping them shut.
“I wasn’t done with that.”
“Holden.” Bill says, firmly, “This is not up for debate.”
Holden narrows his eyes. “Are you seriously pulling rank on me?”
“I’m saying this as someone who cares about you, not your superior, but if you want to see it that way, sure.”
Holden tries to hold onto his scowl as Bill tosses aside the folders, and pulls him up from his chair by his hands.
“We just had a very long two weeks.” Bill says, his voice softening as their eyes meet. “You need to give yourself a minute to breathe every once in a while.”
“Bill…” Holden says slowly, a coy smile creeping at the corner of his mouth. “Is this because we didn’t have time to have sex the whole time we were away?”
Bill sighs, his brow curling with an indignant frown. “No.”
“I’m horny, too, but we have a job to do.”
“Yeah, one you can’t do when you haven’t eaten all day. Now come on. I’m taking you home.”
Holden doesn’t protest again as Bill leads him out of the basement. As they walk across the parking lot to the car, the faint tremble in his knees and the ache in his stomach emerges from the hazy focus on work that he’d been clinging onto. He doesn’t want to admit that Bill is right, so he keeps his mouth shut as they speed down the highway towards home with his stomach growling the entire way.
Once they get home, Holden strips out of his work clothes and tosses them in the hamper while Bill goes into the kitchen. In his pajamas, he shuffles down the hallway to where Bill is rifling through the refrigerator and pulling out ingredients.
“We could just order out.” Holden says.
“What? Pizza?” Bill says, glancing past the refrigerator door with a disapproving glance. “I don’t think so. You need real food.”
“It is real food. It’s just not very healthy.”
“Exactly.”
Holden wanders further into the kitchen, scanning the items Bill has placed on the counter.
“What are you making?”
“You’ll see.”
“Can I help you?”
“No.” Bill says, “Go get a shower and lay down. I’ll get you when it’s ready.”
“That doesn’t seem fair.”
Bill pushes the refrigerator door shut, and leans over to plant a kiss on Holden’s protesting lips. “Let me do this. Okay?”
Holden holds up a defeated hand. “Okay. Fine.”
He retreats from the kitchen, and goes to the bathroom to get a shower like Bill had suggested. As he stands under the hot spray of the water and feels the tension begin to unwind from his shoulders, a wave of exhaustion washes over him. Every time they go on consult, they spend so much time on the ground that they don’t get very much sleep. He’s almost used to it by now, but it doesn’t stop him from feeling the impact - like some kind of bad hangover - whenever they get back into their own timezone.
By the time he finishes showering, a small whiff of the aromas wafting from the kitchen makes his mouth water and his empty stomach spasm with hunger. Tired and weak, he lays down on the couch, and lets his eyes slip shut.
It feels like the space of a second, but when Bill nudges him awake, Holden realizes that a half hour has passed.
“Come on.” Bill urges, dragging his docile limbs up from the couch, “Dinner’s ready.”
Holden leans into his arms, and rubs his hands over his face to dispel the haze of sleep. Stifling a yawn, he climbs up from the couch, and follows Bill into the kitchen.
“Wow, this looks amazing.” He murmurs, as Bill sits him down at the table in front of his plate filled with bread chicken, Spanish rice, and roasted broccoli.
Bill sits down next to him, and puts his arm across the back of Holden’s chair. “You wanna try to tell me again how you aren’t hungry?”
Holden casts him a limp smile as he picks up his fork and knife. The first bite of the chicken is juicy and savory, just enough salt against rosemary and thyme. A satisfied groan rises in the back of his throat as he chews and the flavor washes across his tongue and down into his empty stomach.
“Good?” Bill asks, bemused.
“So good.” Holden says, “When did you get to be such a good cook?”
“My mom taught me a few staples.”
“Mmm.” Holden mumbles as he tucks a bite of rice and broccoli in his mouth. “I’m impressed.”
“But are you hungry?”
Holden shoots him a begrudging glance. “Yes. Starving, if you have to know.”
Bill chuckles softly, and rubs a hand over his back. “That’s what I thought.”
Holden continues eating, wrapped up in the satisfying sensation of the savory meal hitting his stomach. He’s halfway through his plate before he realizes that Bill isn’t eating, only sitting at Holden’s side watching every bite go into his mouth.
“Aren’t you having some?” Holden asks, pausing to take a sip of water.
“In a minute.”
Holden blushes as Bill’s gaze clings to him, observing his unreserved chewing with a crooked smirk and a pleased glint in his eyes.
“Is this some new kink?” Holden murmurs, lowering his eyelashes. “Watching me eat?”
“No, I just want to see you taken care of. I have to do it since you won’t do it for yourself.”
Holden cheeks grow hotter, and he quickly tucks another piece of chicken in his mouth to rush past the sudden flash of vulnerability he feels under Bill’s scrutiny. They’ve exchanged raunchier words in the bedroom without him feeling this exposed; but no one has ever done something like this for him before - not just cooked him dinner, but made sure he ate every bite, and stuck to the task like it was some honor-bound duty.
“What’s the matter?” Bill asks softly as Holden lowers his head and rubs a quick hand over his eyes.
“Nothing.” Holden whispers, leaning over to hide his face in Bill’s shoulder. “Nothing. I just …. thank you. This tastes really good.”
“You’re welcome.” Bill says, curling his arm around Holden’s shoulder and giving it a squeeze.
Cradling Holden’s cheek in his other hand, he tilts his chin up into a soft kiss. His thumb strokes along Holden’s cheek and against the corner of his eye, smearing the faint remnants of moisture.
“I had no idea my cooking was that good.” He murmurs.
“It is.” Holden says, nudging another kiss against the corner of Bill’s mouth. “I think I want to marry you, and let you cook for me every night.”
Bill’s soft chuckle rumbles from deep in his chest. “Is that right?”
“Yes. And maybe breakfast too.”
“If you’re lucky.”
Holden smiles into another slow kiss before Bill pulls back, and waves a finger at his plate.
“Okay, keep going.” He urges. “I want to see you eat every bite.”
“Yes, sir.” Holden murmurs, sitting up straighter to take up his fork and knife again.
Bill’s hand absently rubs Holden’s shoulder as he finishes the rest of his food, and washes it down with a gulp of water.
“Ah, I’m stuffed now.” Holden says, leaning back and stretching his belly.
“Time for bed, I think.”  Bill says, smiling fondly as Holden stifles a yawn. He rises from his chair, and urges Holden to his feet. “Come on, I’ll tuck you in.”
As soon as Holden crawls into bed, his exhaustion immediately overcomes him. He collapses into the familiar warmth of the sheets with a contented sigh.
Bill drags the covers over him, and sits down on the edge of the bed to nestle them under his chin.
“Aren’t you coming?” Holden murmurs, sleepily.
“In a bit.” Bill says, bending down to plant a kiss on his forehead. “Get some rest. You’ve earned it, okay?”
Holden nods, too tired to argue or agree. He’s already falling asleep by the time Bill turns off the bedside lamp, and drops one last kiss on his temple before sneaking toward the door.
“Bill?” Holden whispers into the darkness.
“Yeah?”
“I love you.”
“I love you, too. Go to sleep.”
The door eases shut, and Holden sinks down against the pillow with a happy hum. He never sleeps well when they’re out of town on consult. His mind is always racing with details of the case and plans of action, and he thinks he’ll never get a good night’s sleep again. It isn’t until he’s home that his body and brain realize again that he’s safe and cared for, that he can drift off to dreams without worrying about someone else dying. This time, it took less than a day for that relief to flood his veins, and he knows it didn’t have anything to do with the dent he’d valiantly tried to put in his overflowing paperwork today. With dinner warming his belly, Holden quickly falls asleep feeling happier than he’s ever been.

The Princess & The Nomad (11)
With your hypnosis gone and your identity fully known, you and Steve reunite and pick you right where your left off. But with The Avengers disbanded and a new danger looming in the future, what’ll keep everything from falling apart?
Summary: After a quick birthday celebration, you and the others plan an impromptu trip to Norway.
Warnings: Mentions of previous smut, hints of Bucky x Reader? Final goodbyes
A/N: Sorry it’s been a while for an update, I’m jumping back and forth between this blog and my original pieces and looking into self-publishing. Lots of big things in the works. Also if you haven’t seen Message From the King you should, Chadwick does an amazing job in that film. Enjoy!
“How many hickies are you trying to give me?” You laughed slash moaned while Steve kissed and bit in random parts of your body
“One for every year you’ve been alive.” He kissed on your pelvic bone, the next spot for him to mark
“I’m 84.”
“Exactly, so let me continue before I lose count.”
“Yes sir.” Your fingers raked through his hair, watching him kiss down your body “Best birthday yet.”
“You made mine special, I’m returning the favor.” He bit down on your hip, holding you in place with his weight, you shuddered softly. When he was satisfied with his work Steve kissed up your stomach before lightly pecking your lips.
“You know we haven’t left this room since I got here. They might think we’re dead.”
“It’s not the worse way to go. And we did leave.”
“For thirty minutes, to find the kitchen. And you couldn’t keep your hands to yourself.” You nudged him with your foot, subtly reminding him of how carried away the two of you got when feeding each other strawberries. Ending up with the two of you hiding in the pantry, half naked and waiting for the guard to leave so you could return to the room.
“We’re lucky we didn’t get caught.” You started to move to the edge of the bed when Steve pulls you back into his chest “Steve-”
“I missed a spot.” He kissed on your shoulder blade
“We told Sam we’d hang out with them today.” You giggled and pulled away “It’s rude to decline an invitation the day of, especially without a viable reason.”
“I want you to myself, that’s reason enough.” Steve watched you move over to the full length mirror that sat in the corner. He smiled as you assessed the bite marks and handprints he left behind.
“Steve, I look like a dalmatian.”
He chuckled before he moved to get ready himself. Despite his not so subtle suggestion for taking a shower together, you didn’t want to run the risk of never making it out the room, so you decided to take separate showers. You watched Steve get ready, since you only had to shimmer on a new outfit, a long sleeved shirt, a scarf wrapped around your neck and long jeans, thanks to him.
“That’s not going to look suspicious.” He told you as you both walked back down to the study to meet everyone else “It’s the middle of summer.”
“Would you rather have me in a skimpy skirt and a low cut top, showing off?” You questioned jokingly
“If you wore anything of the sort, we definitely wouldn’t have made it out the room.”
“Holy shit, she can still walk.” Sam was the first one to open his mouth when you and Steve entered the study “And sporting a modest scarf, odd piece of clothing for summer in Wakanda.”
“My bikini is at the cleaners.”
“Happy birthday Kiddo.” Sam moves in to give you a strong hug
“Thanks Sam.”
“Didn’t think you two would show up.” Bucky said, leaning against the wall on the far side of the room “Guess I owe Nat fifty bucks now.”
“In American currency if you will.” Natasha smirked “Happy birthday, Rayna.”
It took you a second to remember she was addressing you. “Thanks Nat. Shall we go and eat, I’m starving.”
“Well you’ve been working up an appetite for the last two days.”
You all began to file out of the room back into the hall.
“Seriously, like rabbits.” Sam added “I pity who ever had the room next to yours- oh wait, that was me.”
“Sorry Sam.” Steve wrapped his arms around your waist and kissing you on the cheek.
“No you’re not. But you will be when Bucky and I tell (Y/N) all about the goat incident.”
“Stooping low Sam.” A light blush showed up on Steve’s cheeks
“What about a goat?”
“Apparently Stevie here missed you so much that he started having dreams about you.” Bucky started, trailing behind the group “Very vivid dreams, if you catch my drift.”
“So we’re camping out at Bucky’s place, resting as much as we can before we leave again. Steve, being the fossil that he is, fell asleep first. And starts talking in his sleep, calling for you.” Sam gestures to you
“I thought he was having a nightmare again, but when I looked up he was spooning one of my goats. And she was not happy about it.”
“Now the damn goat won’t leave him alone.” Sam laughed, you did your best to hide your amusement but failed horribly
“I’m sorry for laughing, but you have to admit it’s funny.” You said to Steve between giggles “I have tons of embarrassing stories from Asgard.”
“And you’re welcomed to tell us all about it over dessert.” T'challa greets you at the doors leading to a screening room. He reached for your hand to kiss it lightly “Princess (Y/N), happy birthday.”
“Thank you.”
Fast approaching footsteps turned your attention to Shuri, who pushed her brother out of the way and wrapped her arms around you.
“Happy birthday. How are you feeling?”
Nat shot Sam a warning glare before he could say anything inappropriate. Steve did the same to Bucky.
“I feel great, no side effects that I know of so far.”
“I got you something.” Shuri reached into her pocket and pulled out a small gift box “Well I made it.”
Sitting inside the box was a bracelet made of round black beads with tiny engravings on them.
“They’re call Kimoyo beads, made from vibranium, they're multipurpose and have better reception than a cell phone.”
“It’s beautiful Shuri, thank you.” You slipped the bracelet on your wrist, they shift and secure themselves on your wrist so they wouldn’t move or fall off. You turn your hand over and the words ‘happy birthday’ shine from the beads “I just hope my powers won’t short it out.”
“It’s perfectly safe.” she assures you before turning to Bucky “Nice to see you again White Wolf.”
“Same to you Shuri." Bucky grinned
"Are you joining us for the movie?” Steve ask
“Unfortunately I have work to do in my lab, plus I am not old enough to sit in on adult conversations.” Shuri rolled her eyes
“Mother’s words, not mine.” T'challa argued “You will get your chance when you are older.”
Shuri mimicked her brother’s voice under her breath as she walked away, a guard right behind her. T'challa stood to the side to let the rest of you in the dimly lit room. The smell of food filled the room, over to your right was a table full of food complete with chicken and beef stir fry, dinner rolls, and few ribs and cesar salad.
“Whoa, you went all out Sam. I would’ve been fine with pizza.” You tell him
“I didn’t do anything.” Sam’s mouth was stuffed with half a dinner roll.
“My sister insisted, said that this should be a special birthday for you.” T'challa explained “Being back with your loved ones.”
“Oh now I wish she stayed.” You slightly pout “She didn’t have to do all this.”
“In her opinion it could’ve been better, but apparently someone ate all the strawberries that were going to be used for the shortcake.”
“Imagine that.” Steve gives you a small squeeze on the butt, you blush and bite your lip.
Everyone moved around the table, picking up different food to place on their plates. You end up drifting closer to Bucky by the crepes.
"So White Wolf? Is that what you're calling yourself now?"
He shrugged, setting down his plate to add more food "I kinda adopted it. I'm technically the black sheep here.... Well the white sheep."
"Do you like it here? You seem a lot more relaxed."
"Yeah, it's amazing. Everyone’s so welcoming, there’s little to no crime. And the sunsets are something out of movies." He gives you a friendly smile before averting his eyes again
"What's wrong?"
"Your scarf slipped." He reached up to fix your scarf back over a bite mark "Looks like everything between you and Steve is going good."
"Yeah, we said I love you for the first time."
He nods, examining a piece of broccoli. "Big step, possible wedding bells in the future?"
You blush and nudge him in his side. "I just got back, let's not jump to life altering choices."
"Alright. It's your day Princess- Rayna? (Y/N)? Which one are you going with?"
"Honestly, whichever you prefer. I have so many names at this point I’ll answer to anything.” you joke, sneaking a bit of frosting from a corner slice of cake
“Sure thing- Princess.” Bucky smiles before sauntering off to a plush chair in front of a large screen. Steve calls you over to settle in the seat next to him.
“So what are we watching? I have a year worth of movies I’ve missed out on.”
You all settle for a movie called “Message from the King”, even on their day off, Steve and the others never strayed too far from action. Although there was a lot of jeering when something unrealistic happened. Which was every twenty minutes. However, the film made you think of Odin and Thor, and how secrets tore you apart from each other, just like in movie.
“You alright?” Steve asks you, squeezing your hand
“I have another birthday request.” You tell him
“Please not here, don’t ruin the screening room with your non-stop super human, Asgardian sex-capades.” Sam looks at you with tired eyes
“It’s not that Sam. I want to go to Norway, it doesn’t have to be right now but the sooner the better.”
“What’s in Norway?” Nat asks, helping herself to another beer
“My grandfather, I want to see him.”
“Your grandfather, as in Odin?” Steve’s shocked expression spoke for everybody “The man who threw you out of Asgard?”
“Yes. He said we would see each other again before…” You looked back to the screen at the rolling credits, then shrug “I don’t know, maybe it’s a stupid idea. If he wanted to see me then he’d find me right?”
“You’ve met him already?” Bucky leaned in a bit from the other side of Sam
“Yeah, I sort of broke him out of a retirement home.”
“What do you get into when we’re not around?” Sam wondered
“I haven’t even got the chance to tell you about the huge python that nearly killed me.”
“The what?” Steve’s face grew pale
“Nothing.” You rub reassuring circles on his back
“You can tell us all about that on the way to Norway.” Natasha stood, Steve gave her a stern look “Clearly she’s made amends with him Rogers, don’t give me that look.”
“I think you should go.” T'challa chimes in “Family, no matter how dysfunctional, is all we have in the end.”
“Steve, I can understand why you don’t like him. But if he hadn’t cast me out then, I wouldn’t be here now.” You tell him “I’m going to say my last goodbyes to him. I’d like it if you were there, if not I’ll go alone.”
“After the year I’ve had, I’m not letting you out of my sight.” Steve wrapped his arm around your shoulders “Wheels up in thirty.”
“We can never have a normal week.” Sam muttered as he stood “I’m taking the dinner rolls.”
* * *
When Steve said he wasn’t letting you out of his sights he meant it, you figured that out when he had you sit in the co-pilot seat before the quinjet began to take off.
“Steve I still can’t drive a car, what in Norns sakes makes you think I can fly the jet?” You asked as he strapped you in
“You aren’t flying, I am and if you need to switch out with Nat then you will.” He assured you with a kiss on your cheek
“Enough, let’s get this show on the road!” Sam punched the roof of the jet, earning an annoyed look from Nat and Steve
You peaked out the window, over at Bucky who gave a small salute from where he stood, along with T'challa and Shuri.
“Why isn’t Bucky going? He’s not afraid to fly with me is he?” You wave back to them while Steve settled in. The last time you and Bucky were on the jet together, you had just tried to kill him thanks to Dr. Schmidt.
“No, he opted out of the trip, in case anything were to happen while we’re away.” Steve says “Buck doesn’t go on missions anymore. Not even small ones. Doesn’t want to risk- relapse.”
“Oh.. is he gonna be fine while we’re gone? I’d hate taking all of you away from each.” Tony was the first person to pop up in your mind, you promised to check in with him, told him he wouldn’t lose anymore family.
“Yeah, he knows we can’t stay too long to begin with, but it anything happens T'challa will get in contact with us.” Steve flipped a few switches on the console before the jet lifted off the landing pad on the ground
“So Rayna, how are we gonna find your grandfather?” Nat asks you once you’re out of Wakanda’s barrier
“I could ask Heimdall, he might know where my grandfather is, he sees all.”
“What do you mean?” Sam’s eyebrow lifted
“Heimdall was the bifrost keeper, until Loki falsely charged him for treason. He has the gift of sight, if he wishes to see you then he will be able to find you anywhere you are.” You explained
“Loki? I thought he was dead.”
“So did I, Thor still believes he’s gone.”
“When was the last time you spoke with Thor?” Steve was the one to ask this question
“Four months? Maybe five. He continued his search for the stones, he believes I’m still on Asgard.”
“Why didn’t you go to find him? Instead of come back here. I mean, if it were me I’d look for the person who could help the most.” Sam suggested
“The world may be small but the universe is infinite. Finding my father is like searching for an empty chamber during Ostara.” You laughed at your joke, the others looked around, confused “It’s…. Nevermind.”
You folded your legs into lotus position, and closed your eyes. “Heimdall, give me sight.”
You were by a creek this time, not too far from the marketplace in Asgard but still far enough so no one could see you. A light splashing drew in your attention, behind you Heimdall was kneeling by the creek, cleaning his face.
“Forgive me for the intrusion.” You tell him
“No apologies necessary Princess. Just glad you didn’t call an half hour prior, I was bathing.” He chuckled “You wish for new information?”
“Yes, I need help finding Odin. I know he’s in Norway, but I don’t know where exactly.”
“Unfortunately I am unable to locate him.”
“How is that possible?”
“Without the bifrost, I can only see so far. My powers are limited, and I will need them in the future.” He rose to his feet and began to stroll upstream, you followed
“But then how will I find him?”
“Magic, you did learn tracking spells during your time here correct?”
“Yes, but how will I be able to reach you? What if you need me? Or if my father is in trouble?”
“You are in tuned with every soul you meet, as Goddess of life and light you will feel if your loved ones are in danger.” He stared off to the distance “I must leave, use what you have learned Princess.” He paused “And I must apologize once more, for my wrongdoings against you.”
“There’s no need to apologize to me Heimdall. I have forgiven you.”
He nods solemnly “You really do look like your mother. Norns rest her soul. It has been an honor knowing you Rayna.”
“You speak as if this is the last time we’ll see each other.” He didn’t respond, only gave you a light hearted smile “Heimdall?”
You blinked and you were back on the jet. Steve was the first to speak, seeing the concerned look in your eyes.
“Did he tell you where Odin is?”
“No, he couldn’t. Without the bifrost his powers are getting weaker. But he said I should be able to find him on my own.”
“What’s wrong Ray?” Natasha asked when she saw your face
“I think that was the last time I was going to speak with him.” You wiped away the forming tear “I think someone found him.”
“I’m sorry Doll.” Steve reached over to hold your hand
“He was my last chance to find Thor, and protect my family. Last chance to return to Asgard.” You took a shaky breath, Sam was looking over the jet, his own paranoia setting in place. You felt his anxiety “I’m good Sam, just processing. The closer we get to Norway the easier it’ll be for me to find Odin. Maybe he can help me fix this.”
“I’m sure he can.” Natasha gave your shoulder a squeeze “Now about this giant python that nearly killed you.”

keto cooking nightmares
Alright y’all. I have a confession to make, I have lived on this planet for almost 20 years. I am almost two years into adulthood. And I can’t cook. Not rice, not soup, not even box mac and cheese. This is changing, and rather rapidly, ever since I started taking my food more seriously which was....about three days ago. I have made, in order,
[parentheses will be for how they turned out because I messed up]
keto pizza (disgusting)
keto blueberry muffins (delicious)
broccoli with cheese (good)
keto flourless chocolate cake (decent-ish?)
I made the chocolate cake earlier today. No, I did not follow the recipe exactly. Yes, that contributed to it turning into bitter dark chocolate fudge. Yes, I still did eat it. Yes, my family won’t touch it. But that’s okay! It was a cheap recipe and I learned not to make it again. Although, putting some strawberries and dairy free almond whip cream on it made it somewhat good! The best thing that came out of this was trying almond whip cream. It is literally so great. I’m not a fan of regular whip cream, so this find was amazing.
As my diet journey comes along, so will my cooking journey. I figure I should give rice a try, even if I won’t be eating it. It is just a staple food, especially in my culture. So, here’s to learning new things. New, important, I should-know-already, things. Thanks keto (or rather, low-card diets), for challenging me.

Ariel’s Tips to Eating Cheap & Easy
I just put together this list for a co-worker and thought it might be helpful to others. These tips got me through a lot of college years and cub reporter life—I hope you find them helpful!
Filling breakfasts: Oatmeal! Eggs: easiest thing to do is make a casserole with some sautéed veggies (peppers, mushrooms, onions) and whatever spice blend I have around and cut it up to eat throughout the week. If you have a muffin tin, I like to bake it in there. 350 degrees for 20 minutes or so—just keep an eye on it until it looks like solid eggs. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top and set oven to boil for 5 minutes if wanted. (Muffin ideas: https://bestrecipepicks.com/low-carb-egg-muffins/)- Also hard-boiled eggs
Dinner ideas: Baked potatoes: Get a 10-pound bag and pop a couple in the oven an hour before you want dinner (or pre-make and microwave for lunch). Then top it with whatever smorgasbord of toppings sounds good to you (good way to use up leftovers too): butter, cheddar cheese and bacon bits, broccoli, BBQ pulled pork … here’s a list of fun ideas: https://www.buzzfeed.com/arielknutson/amazing-ways-to-eat-a-baked-potato-for-dinner
Spaghetti!!! A box of pasta and a jar of red sauce is very cheap and filling—add in some sautéed vegetables to round it out. Ground beef/turkey if it’s on sale …
Shredded chicken: Toss some chicken breast or thighs in the crock pot with a) a jar of salsa (I really like Trader Joe’s salsa verde) b) a can of cream of mushroom soup c) chicken broth + spices. Eat with taco shells or mashed potatoes or with barbecue sauce on a bun.
Rotisserie chicken: They’re like $6-$8! Throw in some roasted veggies & a grain like rice or potatoes, and you’re golden. Ideas for leftovers: https://www.unoriginalmom.com/20-one-dish-dinners-to-make-with-leftover-rotisserie-chicken/
Roast some veggies: particularly get good hearty stuff like broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, parsnips, carrots. Chop ‘em up, throw them on a lined sheet tray, drizzle with a few glugs of olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper plus whatever herbs/spices sound good (blends work well here too)
If you google things like “$20 grocery list” there are tons of blog posts complete with weekly meal plans:- https://www.wisebread.com/how-to-eat-well-on-just-20-a-week-with-meal-plans- http://oh-my-foodness.com/2013/03/groceries-20/ - https://premeditatedleftovers.com/naturally-frugal-living/20-grocery-budget/ Other ideas: Lentils: Cheap, good source of protein, very filling. Good lentil chicken soup recipe (I skipped the blending and still really liked it): https://www.thekitchn.com/recipe-chicken-lentil-soup-214900?utm_source=k_daily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=12202017&recip_id=1297236
Also canned tuna is probably the cheapest protein you can find and can be decently filling. Eat on crackers, tuna salad, tuna casserole, tuna melts.
Filling, simple & healthy veggie soup: https://www.spendwithpennies.com/weight-loss-vegetable-soup-recipe/ 5-Ingredient Broccoli Cheese Soup: https://www.budgetsavvydiva.com/2015/01/5-ingredient-broccoli-cheese-soup-recipe/ Seriously, blogs like these ^^ are where it’s at. Plus, Pinterest! Looks up “cheap” and just start picking and choosing things that sound good. Casseroles are usually pretty filling and very easy to throw together. This lunch plan from healthyish is pretty good, although I skip the lemon yogurt and nori sprinkle and use store-bought dressings. I also just use an eight-piece pack of chicken instead of roasting whole: https://www.bonappetit.com/story/lunch-prep-master-plan As for food websites, I generally find thekitchn.com has the best combo of tasty recipes that use inexpensive ingredients. They’re also equally obsessed with cheap grocery store du jour, ALDI! My favorite things to buy at Aldi: pantry staples (peanut butter, olive oil, spices, cheese, oats), massive $5 take-and-bake pizzas, cheese, produce (veggies and fruit, often affordably organic), canned goods (diced tomatoes, broth), frozen meals (look for the specials) and bags of frozen fish, which I then roast in the oven with a squirt of lemon or some lemon pepper. Grab next week’s weekly ad on your way out to help you plan for the following week.

Learn about the Nonkinaverse In Greater Detail | Learn about the Nonkinaverse In Lesser Detail | Meet the characters | Ask a question | Ko-fi | Personal Discord | New Clown Discord | Twitter
Ok, it’s been a while but I’m in a better head-space now, so It’s time to get BACK to the basics with four new characters! Three of which are tied together in terms of storyline, so a mega post it is!
Click below for the whole shebang. Seriously, it’s a long one! It even includes Henry Boppleson’s proper introduction to the Nonkinaverse! (If ya didn’t know, I won Henry from a giveaway held by the lovely folks at @dailyclowns!)
Oh yeah, these three.
Kobe and Sparrow started out as a clone of Ace and Jigu-Jo given similiar dynamics, but I switched up some aspects enough to avoid a Ryu and Ken sort of thing (even though I have a lot of Boxing characters, oops).
I think I got the Bellhop angle from Spirou of all things. Probably, I don’t remember Spirou all that well. The only French comic I can recall off the top of my head is Lastman.
Also Henry was designed by a friend of mine. I wanted to give Sparrow a sidekick best friend and my own friend came in clutch.
- C-KUN, from the Nonkinaverse Design Bible
Name: Kobe-Maru Nishi Age (at the start of Nonkina Ace -April 10th, 2014): 82 DOB: June 2nd, 1932 Gender: Male Height: 8′6″ Sexuality: Straight/Asexual Occupation: Former Assassin, Martial Artist, Hotel Bellhop Nationality: Japanese Home State: Hokkaido, Japan Likes: Melee combat, Sudoku and other types of puzzles, training, coffee in the morning Dislikes: Modern art and music, street fashions, youthful people who throw caution to the wind, pepper, city life Favorite Food: Harihari-nabe Personality: Quiet, Semi-Stoic Fighting Style: Absolution (Personal Martial Art, mix of Shoot Boxing/Muay Thai, Shuri-te karate, Kun Gek Do) Clown-Po Ability: Healing Factor, Energy Dispersal
In the unwritten history of Combat, there are many legends who remain shrouded in mystery. Tales of fighters with the strength of gods, lost to the flow of time. Of these unsung legends was Kobe-Maru Nishi, known to those who have heard of his skills of a fighter as ‘The God of Absolution’.
Very little is known about Kobe-Maru. What is known is that he hails from a family of Shuri-te karate practitioners located deep within Hokkaido, and he traveled the world learning more Martial Arts to make himself stronger than the rest, combing all of knowledge to create ‘Absolution’.
And while Kobe had a small stint on the professional Martial Arts circuit, his true job was that of an assassin, going after those who fill the world with strife and woe.
However, there was always one problem that would come up time and time again: The Future of Absolution.
Kobe never really put into thought as to how Absolution will survive after his eventual death. He could never really find a suitable partner or student who he deemed worthy enough to learn it.
That was until he started working at The Heights Hotel in Diamond Star where he met a young man by the name of Sparrow Vel.
Name: Sparrow Vel Age: 17 DOB: April 21st, 2000 Gender: Male Height: 6′7″ Sexuality: Straight Occupation: Hotel Bellhop Nationality: French-American Home City: Diamond Star, New Yor-Kyu Likes: Reading, Fighting, his job, hearing stories about his parent’s adventures, his best friend Henry, getting tips Dislikes: Rude hotel guests, walking up long flights of stairs, broccoli Favorite Food: Pepperoni Pizza Personality: Adventurous, Spunky, full of life Fighting Style: Absolution Clown-Po Ability: Energy Dispersal, can tap into a sort of ‘Berserk-er’ mode
Sparrow was the son of an adventurous couple who ended up winding down into The Heights just as Kobe-Maru joined the staff.
He saw Sparrow’s golden heart at work day by day, seeing the true kindness and generosity to others he had himself as a child.
In Kobe’s eyes, Sparrow was the ideal candidate for Absolution.
So one day when he and Sparrow had off from work, Kobe-Maru took Sparrow to the forest below Mt. Inoki. Kobe had promised to show something Sparrow would have never seen before.
Finding an old oak tree that was as thick as 7 concrete walls, Kobe-Maru showed the power of Absolution to Sparrow by kicking the entire tree down in one roundhouse.
Sparrow was stunned and amazed by Kobe-Maru’s power. It was like something out of a superhero movie or an anime!
Admiring his power, Kobe-Maru turned around and spoke to Sparrow.
“This power...It’s something amazing, isn’t it? Tell me Sparrow...Do you wish to have this power as well?”
Sparrow begged for Kobe-Maru to teach him, and within months Sparrow had his Clown-Po spark to life, finally being able to keep up with Kobe-Maru, forming a strong student-teacher bond.
Within one year of training, Sparrow had finally reached the same level of power as Kobe-Maru. But Kobe wasn’t satisfied just yet. For there was one more thing that laid ahead of Sparrow’s training.
The underground fighting tournament: Battle C-Road. A tournament that Kobe-Maru himself had entered many, many years ago.
This tournament will be the true test of Sparrow’s power...
And then there’s Henry Boppleson.
Name: Henry ‘Justin’ Boppleson Age: 17 DOB: February 1st, 2000 Gender: Male Height: 6′1″ Sexuality: Straight Occupation: Hotel Bellhop Nationality: American Home City: Los Angeles, California Likes: Getting paid, working hard, girls, boobs, his old trusty handbuzzer, his best bud Sparrow, watching fights, Combat Sector Dislikes: Not getting tips for carrying loads of bags up several flights of stairs, whoopie cushions, Kobe-Maru’s lectures and speeches Favorite Food:  Personality: Laid back, easily excitable, a bit of a prankster Fighting Style: N/A Clown-Po Ability: N/A
Henry’s not much of a fighter, or a fighter at all for that matter. He’s Sparrow’s best friend since they first met in middle school, and their bond is iron clad.
But while Henry lacks in his own fighting spirit, he’s still knowledgeable about combat sports, ranging from Pro Wrestling to MMA, to obscure PPV only events that ran under the name of ‘Combat Sector’.
Other than that, he’s a hard worker with a love for the ladies, and penchant for the old hand buzzer gag~

NEVER ENDING CYCLE
4.5 Fredag 25.08.17 20.55
Elias prostrated before his prayer rug. He was supposed to meet up with the boys in a few minutes. Kneeling down, he whispered under his breath in Arabic, “God is the greatest.” With a deep exhale, he uttered, “O my Lord, forgive me.”
He had been praying more often ever since last week, feeling lighter with each prayer. Although, right now he had a hard time focusing on the prayer at hand; he was too busy thinking about Laila. He hadn’t heard from her since Tuesday when he’d seen her with some guy. Even Sana told him she hadn’t been in class the last few days, which certainly didn’t help his uneasiness. He knew he shouldn’t be feeling this awful; there had never really been anything between them. But that didn’t stop his heart from aching.
Pressing his fingers to his temples in mid prayer, he tried to clear his mind and be completely present. And it worked. For a few seconds, he relished in the feeling of Sujood and the calm he experienced throughout. Once again the need for release overtook him, but the tears refused to come.
Elias finished off his prayer with a plea for forgiveness, as he said, “Our Lord. Forgive us our sins and efface our bad deeds and take our souls in the company of the righteous.”
Lastly, he prayed that Laila was okay.
As Elias picked up his prayer rug, a text appeared on his phone. As if she could read his thoughts, he looked down at the screen and saw it was from Laila. His heartbeat quickened.
Laila: Wanna hang out?
Elias: Right now?
Laila: Yeah
Laila: I’m being spontaneous :)
Elias: Haha ok let’s do it :D
Elias furrowed his brows, more confused than ever. He had so many questions. But despite that, he sure as hell wasn’t going to say no to a date with Laila. Or…whatever it was.
He quickly texted the boys that he wouldn’t be able to come and got ready.
((( Electric Love - BØRNS )))
“Look Laila! That’s you!” Elias laughed, pointing to a statue in front of him of a huge, disgruntled, and funny looking baby.
As they walked around Vigeland park, the slight breeze that rustled the leaves was an inviting contrast to the hot beams of sunlight beating down on Elias and Laila’s skin. The numerous statues around them decorated the park’s landscape. Freshly cut green grass surrounded them on all sides of the trail.
Laila, who was wearing a light red top, turned towards the statue that Elias had been pointing at and gasped mockingly. She looked around at the statues speculatively before finally turning towards a statue of a man holding up his four kids sporting a noticeably tiny male organ.
Laila turned to Elias and said, “Look Elias! That’s you!” mimicking him.
“So I’m a father? I don’t remember having 4 kids?”
“No you’re the dick.” Laila laughed.
Elias gave her a straight-faced look before shaking his head as a grin quickly surfaced on his face at her satisfied beam.
“What? You said it yourself,” Laila reminded him teasingly.
“Well at least I’m not a huge dick,” Elias retorted, furrowing his brows at the peculiar statue in front of him. The artist certainly hadn’t been very generous in regards to a certain organ. Elias turned to Laila with a chuckle and said, “No but seriously, look at it, it’s smaller than like, half of my pinky.” He turned to examine it, putting his pinky finger next to it and it was indeed the size of half his pinky.
Laila burst out laughing, clutching her chest and Elias started laughing alongside her, not caring if the people around them were looking at them weirdly.
They turned towards a statue of what looked like a bunch of kids and grownups sitting in some broccoli. Elias tilted his head in confusion and said, “I swear these statues are the weirdest shit ever.”
Laila narrowed her eyes, “It’s art.”
“I wouldn’t exactly call kids crawling inside broccoli, art.”
Laila paused. She furrowed her brows. “That’s a tree.”
Elias widened his eyes, “That’s definitely broccoli.”
“Why would a bunch of kids crawl inside broccoli?!”
“I don’t know?! The same reason they crawl in trees?” Elias said exasperatedly.
“That’s called kindergarten.” Laila retorted dryly with a deadpan expression.
Elias tilted his head in thought, thinking she probably had a point. He glanced outward at the park with a sly smirk and said, “The last one to the other end of the park loses the argument!” He hastily raced forward. Within seconds, Laila was running beside him, adamant on getting ahead of him with a glowing beam planted on her face. Elias drew a deep breath and quickened his pace. Within seconds, he neared the other end of the park, moments before she did.
Laila crossed her arms at her arrival and huffed with a teasing smile at the corner of her lips. “Whatever, it’s still a tree.”
“Broccoliii,” Elias singsonged teasingly. Laila shook her head and rolled her eyes in response, a smile on both of their lips.
Minutes later, Elias and Laila walked side by side across the park, ice cream cones in their hands. The sky had darkened overhead, gradually turning from a light blue to an orange-reddish color.
Elias turned to Laila, who was busy licking her vanilla flavoured ice cream. He frowned slightly, remembering her troubled expression from a few days ago. He wished he could just focus on the date at hand, instead of allowing these intrusive thoughts to fill his head, but he couldn’t. He wanted to ask her who the guy was, if he was her boyfriend, why she hadn’t been answering his texts? But he didn’t want to seem too desperate, so he kept quiet.
Laila turned to him, her full pink lips raised upwards into a smile. He looked down at his slightly melting chocolate ice cream cone.
“I needed…wanted to go out today.” she said as she turned away.
“Aww, so I was the first one you thought of?” Elias teased with a slight chuckle.
Laila arched a sly brow. “Who said you were?”
“Ouch.” he chuckled.
Laila looked at him pensively before beaming, “You were. The first one.”
Elias’s heart fluttered. He smirked at her and said, “I knew it.”
Laila snorted and rolled her eyes. She glanced at him before looking down at his nose and turned bug-eyed.
Elias furrowed his brows, “What?” he asked.
“You’ve got something on your nose.” She went closer to him, still staring at his nose as if he had grown another one.
“What is it?” he asked, he raised his hand, trying to wipe whatever it was from off his nose.
Without warning, Laila grabbed the ice cream cone from his grasp and smushed it into his face.
He paused with wide eyes. Laila erupted into laughter at the sight of his entire nose and mouth covered in ice cream. Elias pursed his lips and shook his head, unable to keep the grin off his face. He wiped most of it off as he turned to her, “You didn’t.”
Laila was still laughing as she raised her brows. “Oh I did.”
Elias raised his brows, eyeing the ice cream cone in her hands. Laila recognizing the mischievous gleam in his eyes, ran away from him, shrieking with laughter. As he raced after her, Laila desperately tried to keep her ice cream as far away from Elias as possible, knowing full well he’d use it as a weapon. Elias quickly outran her and started tickling her. She giggled and yelled, “Stop, stop, stop!”
Elias paused and stopped tickling her. They both tried stifling their laughter, but to no avail.
Laila threatened to tickle him back but Elias raised his hands up in surrender. She grinned before she looked down at his lips pensively, using her thumb to wipe the leftover ice cream from his mouth.
Elias drew in a sharp breath at the feel of her fingers on his lips. He gulped. Suddenly he found it extremely difficult to breathe. Both of them shifted a fraction closer to each other, their lips mere inches away.
Laila gulped noticeably and looked down, avoiding his eyes.
Out of nowhere, something on the ground caught her eye as she said, “Look! This flower is really pretty.” She plucked it from the grass, revealing a striped flower with alternating colors of red and white. “It’s a carnation.” she explained. She shifted her eyes from the flower to Elias.
Elias raised his brows in amusement. “Are you giving me a flower?”
Laila grinned and nodded her head confidently. “Wait,” she said. She looked up at Elias and tucked the single flower behind his ear, beaming at him.
Elias laughed at the thought of how ridiculous he might be looking right now with a flower behind his ear. Still he couldn’t bring himself to remove it.
Elias and Laila sat on a rooftop, chatting animatedly while devouring the pizza between them. The sun had set a few hours ago. They’d watched the sky turn a dark blue, as a small smattering of stars lit up the night. Laila sat cross legged, a large piece of pizza in her hand. Elias chuckled as he told Laila about Yousef’s jealousy. “I swear I’ve never seen a more desperate dude than him.”
Laila laughed, “He seems like a good guy. I’ve seen him and Sana together. They seem…perfect.”
Elias nodded.
“But wait, how does Sana know that guy is gay?” she said referring to Ali.
Elias snorted and shrugged, “She said she just knows. There’s a point in your life where you just accept that she’s always right and you stop questioning her.”
Laila laughed in response. Elias watched as she finished another piece. She looked up at him, trying to stifle her laugh as she covered her mouth with her hand. “God, this is the worst food to eat on a first date,” she exclaimed.
Elias beamed. “So this is a date, huh?”
Laila cocked her head at him in amusement. She threw a small piece of pizza at him which he quickly dodged, moving out of the way. Elias laughed at her failed attempt.
“What’s that guy’s name?” Laila asked.
“Hmm?” Elias asked.
“The guy Sana thinks is gay. Maybe I know him and if he’s actually gay. You know, I have an amazing gaydar, if I do say so myself.”
“Ali.”
Laila tilted her head in thought. “That’s the name of literally every fifth Muslim guy, I’m gonna need a bit more information.”
“Tall dude, beard, pretty handsome.”
Laila furrowed her brows, “Wait…is he like…a bit shy, with hair that looks like it belongs in a shampoo commercial?”
Elias furrowed his brows, “Well, yeah.”
Laila laughed, “He definitely isn’t gay I can tell you that.”
“Well maybe we don’t have the same guy. He’s a medical student or something.”
“Medical student? Then it’s definitely not the same guy. The Ali I know studies business at uni, he’s friends with my older brother.”
Elias nodded and finished his last piece of pizza. Laila groaned, stroking her stomach as she exclaimed, “I ate way too much,” eliciting a chuckle from Elias.
((( Long Way Down - Tom Odell )))
Laila stood up from the floor of the roof and let out a deep breath. “You know what? Today has been an interesting day.”
Elias raised his brows at the abrupt change of subject. “Why?”
She looked at him with an indecipherable expression and said, “You know how people tell you that the shitty stuff in your life will pass and good stuff will happen eventually?” She paused. “Well what they don’t tell you is that the shitty stuff never really passes. Just when you find yourself on the cusp of happiness, it comes back in full force. So the real question is; should you be content knowing that you get to experience happiness after sadness or should you be depressed knowing that happiness will inevitably lead to sadness again, leaving you perpetually stuck in a never ending cycle?”
Elias raised his brows, trying to process what she’d just said. “I…I guess it depends on what you choose to focus on. Some could argue that sadness doesn’t really exist, that it’s just a lack of happiness. Just like darkness doesn’t exist; it’s a lack of light. You could spend all the time in the world dreading the day you aren’t happy anymore, and then when it hits, realize you’ve spent all of your time focusing on the future and the inevitability instead of enjoying the now.”
Laila tilted her head, deep in thought. She smiled softly at him. “You know my mom would say the exact same. She believes in an afterlife.”
“Don’t you?”
She paused, “I do but…the thought makes me kinda sad. My mom says that no matter what happens in this life, we’ll be rewarded in the afterlife.”
“Why does that make you sad?”
“Because it insinuates that what we go through doesn’t matter, because in the end, we’ll be rewarded.”
Elias tilted his head in thought, eternally stunned by Laila’s infinite intelligence. “To me that sounds like a good thing, but that’s probably because it’s so subjective.
“You’re such an optimist.” She grinned, lightening the mood.
“Well someone has to be. Especially when you’re going around being all deep and talking about the afterlife and shit. Someone needs to balance it out,” Elias scoffed, eliciting a laugh from Laila.
Elias smiled to himself as he stood up, motioning to her, “Can I walk you home?”
She nodded, “I’d love that.”
((( Atlas: Heart - Sleeping at Last )))
He wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of today and tomorrow and the day after that with Laila.
They walked side by side in comfortable silence, occasionally glancing at each other out of the corner of their eyes. Every single movement of the body and facial expression spoke volumes. It was that moment, that Elias realized that talking wasn’t always communicating. Right here, right now in this moment with Laila, Elias was more content than he had ever felt in his life. The same kind of content he felt when praying.
After some time, they had reached her doorstep. Elias made a note to remember the directions. He hoped this would be one of the many more times he’d walk her to her house.
Laila stopped to turn towards him, flashing him a toothy grin. At the sight of Laila’s beyond adorable smile, Elias had one nagging thought in his head that he’d been trying to suppress ever since Tuesday. Who was that guy with Laila?
She noticed his change in demeanour and frowned, “What’s wrong?”
Elias looked down, gulping visibly, “That guy…from Tuesday. Is he your boyfriend?” He tried to sound as nonchalant as possible. He knew she didn’t owe him anything. He knew he shouldn’t have asked, but the not knowing was killing him.
Laila’s face faltered. “No.”
Elias wasn’t entirely convinced, but he decided to let it go. He couldn’t convey how much it hurt him to see her upset. He didn’t want to contribute to her unhappiness by nagging her. He nodded in acknowledgement.
Laila looked up at him.
In a matter of seconds, he wound his arms around her in a tight embrace as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Elias felt the tension leave his body as he felt her let out a slow breath.
As they drew away slightly from each others’ grasp, Laila gazed down at his lips. Elias’ heart stopped. All of their near kisses had led to this moment. But they had always ended the same way; Laila always pulled away from him at the last second. He needed to be sure she wanted to kiss him. The ball was in her court.
Laila drew closer by a mere inch. He could feel her warm breath on his face.
All at once, he closed the distance between them, gently brushing his lips against hers.
It was slow and soft. Better than anything he could have imagined. As they deepened the kiss, she parted her mouth slightly. Elias’ thumb caressed her cheek, her hand rested on his chest.
When they finally pulled away from each other, Elias gazed at Laila as she looked down with a shy smile. Gradually, she looked back up at him with a grin and Elias couldn’t help but beam at her. With a quick kiss and a heartfelt smile, Laila said, “I should go.”
Elias nodded. As he watched her walk inside her door, his heart went into overdrive all over again.

What’s more fun than being able to put any topping you could possibly want onto your own personal pie of pizza? I went a little crazy designing my own pie at @stonebridgenyc (near Grand Central): fresh mozz, pesto, truffle oil, spicy honey, eggplant, peppers, broccoli and garlic. Seriously amazing!! The spicy honey 🍯 stood out the most to me. Fast-casual farm-to-table spot with fresh food and quick service. #ChowOrNever #DISHcover #NYC (at Stone Bridge Pizza & Salad) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzb7qvbhg0q/?igshid=es4nel7j27vu

⇢ veg update 2
I totally forgot I was going to do these.. so here you go, a little over three months since I took my decision of giving up meat. I know a few of you are interested, so here you go! :)
It has been three months since I decided to cut out meat cold turkey, and as someone who was only slightly obsessed with chicken and did not care about any other type of meat, I have to say that it has been fairly easy. I definitely do not recommend that for someone who eats meat more regularly (I only ate chicken and around 3 times a week) but turning vegetarian was the easiest choice I have ever made and I still stand by that.
I actually planned on being vegetarian for a few months, but less than a month after beginning my journey I had already cut out cow’s milk (another thing I wasn’t too much of a fan of, since it always made my stomach bloat even if it was lactose free) and was only eating egg very occasionally as I still tried to figure out how to eat - where and how to get the nutrients I needed for a healthy lifestyle. it took hours upon hours of research but I am proud to say that I have it somewhat figured it out now.
I went into it too scared, and I shouldn’t have! many people around me and online scared me about deficiencies that, honestly, can easily be taken care of, and you do not need to be a millionaire for that. what I have learned is that as long as you do your research and keep a somewhat regular check-up with your doctor (I was already used to this anyway, as someone who needs regular check-ups) you will be okay. of course, each body reacts differently, but personally speaking, I did not notice any crazy changes, nor I ever felt weak or like my body was lacking something. going into a healthy, fulfilling way of eating was absolutely essential for that.
for the longest time, before I ever considered it seriously, I thought about veganism and how would I eat were I to turn vegan. I only truly liked three foods: chicken, rice and pasta (yes, it was that bad), so that made me wonder: what the hell would I eat? would there be any options for me? would I have no other option but to starve? and since I could never figure it out, I always dropped the idea of veganism even though it has attracted me for more than a year, probably.
but I slowly started changing my eating habits, trained my taste buds and introduced more vegetables into my diet, and the idea of veganism stopped being so far-fetched. still, there was tons of research I needed to do, and months of studying basic nutrition, reading countless meal plans and learning recipes and watching insightful videos have finally led to a huge amount of variety and color in my meals, way more than before, and looking back I can say that it was my very generalized view of veganism (the one portrayed by the media) what made me think in the first place that they only ate salads and expensive, organic foods haha.
just out of curiosity, I actually decided to follow my carbs, proteins and fats for a week (last week, actually) and I find it unbelievable how easily I can reach a healthy amount of each without looking too much into it. all I did was insert what I’d eaten throughout the day in an app and I find it insane how easily I reached past the 60g mark of protein (that’s actually a bit more than I should.. lol) this might be obvious for some, but for me it certainly wasn’t, especially with the countless questions I get about my supposed lack of protein / vitamins / etc, which inevitably made me doubt my choices more than once. no, peeps. I believed the same, but it is possible to eat a balanced diet as long as you are well informed! :) it is all about making sure that you’re eating a good amount of veggies (I like to eat a lot, so it makes me happy that I can make myself giant meals with veggies. I always go for broccoli, carrots, cauliflower and zucchini and I tend to eat them with a nice, spicy homemade sauce), fats (healthy / unsaturated fats are sooo important, please never cut them out. nuts are an amazing snack full of healthy fats!), carbs (even though they’re not really essential, they do help you feel energized and they can easily fill you for the day. besides, they’re yummy haha. basically cereals, rice, bread, homemade pizza, stuff like that), and of course, protein (lentils, beans and tofu. the latter is my weakness to be honest. I love love love tofu and how versatile it is! there are so many amazing recipes out there to make it delicious).
there is no need to splurge into expensive foods, either. if you want to eat a bunch of replacements, then yes, veganism will be an expensive lifestyle, but if you keep your replacements down to a handful (the only replacement I buy is vegan mayonnaise, and vegan cheese very occasionally. to give you an idea, they do not cost me more than 3 euros each) you will spend just as much as you would in a ‘normal’ lifestyle, if not less.
anyway, moving on - the positive changes I have noticed since late march are only a handful, but still very impactful:
I have gotten slimmer, though I would say it’s more like my body is going back to its natural weight. because of medical reasons and a certain pill I have been taking since 2012 for my body to function properly, I started putting on weight very fast, and it was something that was out of my control. ever since I started taking this pill I gained an amount of 10kg (22 pounds) throughout my university journey, and that excess I gained through the pill is what I have been trying to get rid of, which has become significantly easier with a vegan lifestyle. even though it has only been three months, I already lost more than half of it - 7 kilos, 15 pounds!! and I promise you that I have not been starving myself or anything remotely close. sometimes I even have five meals a day. :) it’s such a drastic change to a few crazy diets I tried out a couple years ago, which only consisted of tuna and whole wheat sandwiches. I’m glad I finally figured out how to eat a fuckton (there’s no other way to put it ahaha) while still being healthy and keeping to the amounts my body needs. I mainly owe that to veganism, because it’s what made me start studying nutrition and healthy eating in the first place.
(quick disclaimer: I need to address that weight loss does not equal happiness / is not the only right way to live. besides becoming vegan, losing weight was also a personal goal of mine because of external factors I already explained - how more than losing a few pounds, I am just trying to go back to the natural weight I had before. and hey, even if you only want to lose a few pounds, that is also okay as long as you are doing it the healthy way. the choices I make are purely meant to look out for my body, not to damage it, and I would never ever encourage starving or restricting yourself too harshly (sometimes, a few moderate restrictions are needed, like I did with the crazy unhealthy snacking I had going on a few months ago). keeping your weight, wanting to lose some, striving to gain a few pounds - all of that is okay as long as you do it right and take care of yourself. the only thing that matters is that you are looking out for your body, whatever shape it is ^^)
another change - headaches, or should I say, the lack of. it is crazy to think that a few months ago I used to take two / three painkillers a week because my head was always killing me, with the occasional migraine that forced me to close all of the blinds and stay in the dark for a few hours, with no possibility of even checking my phone because all lights bothered me. I am so, so happy to say that that has changed, and it has probably been my favorite change of them all. so far I have only taken two painkillers in these three months. which, for me, is absolutely insane!! to know that those headaches that have been bothering me since I was 14 stemmed from an unhealthy diet is simply baffling. I had to go through so many brain scans trying to figure out why my head hurt so much all the time, when the solution was right in my face. I am just beyond relieved that I managed to figure it out. besides ethics, this is another big reason for me continuing with this lifestyle. I cannot go back to the crazy headaches, not now that I found the root of the problem, and especially not now that I figured out a way to eat that I enjoy and that helps me avoid migraines.
and lastly, I noticed I have way more energy than before. getting up early is not so much of a problem anymore. I have always been a night owl, but I am quickly becoming a morning person, which I never thought would ever happen ahaha. I do have my lazy days, and sometimes I go to the gym and I am unable to do more than twenty minutes of cardio, but for someone who is somewhat sedentary, I have to say that this change is huge, and I am really happy with it. I look forward to using this crazy energy I have much more, and hopefully develop more physical endurance, since I still have a bit of a hard time keeping up with exercise in general.
I am very proud of my choice overall, even though I’m still learning and adapting to this lifestyle (there are still many changes to be done, but that will come with time, no rush), and I still stand by the reasons I started doing this in the first place (basically all of them: ethics, the industry, the environment, and of course, health). as someone who has a hard time being consistent in general, the fact that I have kept this up taught me that I can be strong willed if I really want to be.
I also feel very passionate about showing people that veganism doesn’t have to be scary, and that not all vegans are like the ones that represent the lifestyle, who are sadly more toxic than anything. loud, obnoxious vegans will always be the ones heard above us quieter ones, and I just want people to know that not every vegan is self-entitled or arrogant or thinks they’re better than everyone else. at least in my case, I am just proud of my own journey and the choice I made for myself and for the animals. it has nothing to do with how I feel about other people or how they eat. hell, none of my friends are vegan and absolutely nothing has changed between us (well, except the places we go to eat haha). not gonna lie, I am always afraid of saying I’m into veganism because I fear it will make people see me in a bad light, when I have never had ill intentions. but I just hope this can change someday and that veganism stops being portrayed as extreme, as a ridiculous fad, as a cult - you get the point. I see it as something beautiful you’re doing for the Earth and for your body, nothing else. ^^
and if you are interested in the way I eat, I suggest checking out my instagram! I post the meals I make there (mainly to keep myself motivated to keep learning new recipes and such)
Tumblr media
(^^^^ the fact that I actually made that is still unbelievable to me. last year I almost burnt the kitchen while making coffee)
to finish up, if anyone is interested in veganism in general, besides famous documentaries like cowspiracy and forks over knives, there were two videos that really turned around my mindset. of course, there are small details I don’t really agree on, but the overall message of these videos is very impactful and they did push me towards doing more research on how to start transitioning to veganism. those videos are why I’m a vegan and reasons to go vegan. what I loved the most about these two videos is how unbiased both are - they present facts, not opinions, and they are not painfully blunt or offensive in any way. it’s your choice what to do with these facts, and I think that’s the main core of veganism - it all depends on how you feel and react towards these facts presented to you. I simply reacted by wanting to become vegan, and no one pressured me or brainwashed me in any way. I was presented with facts, I researched on them, found myself convinced by some things more than others, and when I had all the information compiled I decided what to do about it myself - no one did it for me. :)
this got way too long, sorry guys. but I hope that whoever read until this point found it somewhat insightful, my aim is always to help and to clarify myths of healthy eating and veganism. to conclude, I still stand by this decision being the best one I have taken in a long, long time, probably all my life. <3

Simply Vibrant, Our New Cookbook!
It’s been around three years since we started working on this cookbook, so finally telling you about it today feels monumental, exhilarating, and terrifying all at the same time. Our new cookbook is called Simply Vibrant: All-Day Vegetarian Recipes for Colorful Plant-Based Cooking, and it’s available for pre-order now! It’s written by me, Anya, and photographed by Masha – the same mother/daughter team that’s behind this blog. Today, we are sharing some key details about the book, accompanied by a book trailer (above), sneak peak photos and ways to pre-order. We’ll also be talking about the pre-order bonus recipe bundle, which is a free gift that we created for anyone who pre-orders the book. SO excited to share all of this with you :)
About the Book
— Simply Vibrant will be released on February 6th, 2018, but it’s available for pre-order now. Anyone who pre-orders the book will have access to a free bonus recipe bundle, consisting of 10 brand new, plant-based recipes, which won’t be published anywhere else. Just save your receipt! This is our way of thanking you for your support :) More on the bonus below.
— There are 129 recipes in the book, all of which are vegetarian, 124 of them are vegan, and 109 of them are gluten-free or gluten-free adaptable. My goal was to create healthful, everyday recipes that require accessible, whole food ingredients – mainly vegetables, fruit, herbs, spices, grains, and legumes. The recipes are very much influenced by the seasons, too. Our hope is that you’ll be able to find whatever good-looking produce you picked up at your market or store in the index of the book, and get some ideas on preparing it.
— I used comfort food classics from around the world as inspiration for the recipes in the book, which also influenced the book’s organization. The chapters are as follows:
Morning Porridges and Pancakes – this chapter contains breakfast recipes for every season, both savory and sweet.
Salads and Bowls – this one has a grain bowl recipe for every season, as well as plenty of vibrant salads for every occasion.
Wraps and Rolls – this chapter celebrates the wrapping techniques seen in cuisines all around the world. There are recipes for summer rolls, enchiladas, burritos, maki (sushi), collard green wraps, and more.
Soups and Stews – the recipes in this chapter range from hearty winter stews to refreshing and light summer soups.
Risotto, Paella and Pilaf – for this chapter, I took the format of well-loved rice dishes from around the world, and reinvented them with the use of different vegetables and grains (there are even a couple of completely grain-free risottos!).
Noodles, Pasta and Pizza – this one is all about the coziest foods out there, reimagined to be more vegetable-forward – there are recipes for homemade pasta and dumplings, but also for noodles and pizza crusts made with vegetables.
Fritters and Veggie Burgers – this chapter has a veggie burger recipe for every season, as well as plenty of lacy, plant-packed fritters.
Just Veggies – this chapter is here to prove that seasonal vegetables only need a simple nudge to taste amazing – there are techniques for marinating, pickling, braising, stewing, and glazing that will take your produce to the next level.
Sweets for Every Season – the title of this chapter speaks for itself – there are brownies, galettes, pies, cakes, and pots de creme, made with unrefined sweeteners, fruit, and even some vegetables.
Basics and Sauces – a foundational chapter, which will supply you with ammunition for creating vibrant meals quickly – from mind-blowing sauces to broth that will cost you $0 in extra groceries.
— I’ve been thinking a lot about the amount of waste we produce as humans, and I’ve been working on developing techniques for using up all parts of the produce I buy. I present some of these ideas in this book, from the aforementioned veggie scrap broth, to a watermelon rind marmalade, broccoli stem risotto, and more.
— The introduction has a story about my shoemaker grandfather, which has basically become folklore in our family. I was very excited to immortalize it in a book.
— If you have our first cookbook, The Vibrant Table, this book is a follow-up to that. While The Vibrant Table focused on creativity in plant-based cooking, Simply Vibrant is much more focused on the everyday. It’s all about putting breakfast, lunch and dinner on the table.
— The book is 328 pages long, hardcover, and 7.5″ x 10″ in size. Every recipe is accompanied by a beautiful photograph, with the exception of a few sauces.
Praise
Here are some kind words we’ve heard about the book from people and publications we greatly admire.
“Simply Vibrant captures the kind of accidentally-vegetarian food we want to eat right now.”
—Bon Appetit
“Simply Vibrant is intuitively organized and brilliantly executed. It illustrates how many of us are striving to eat these days: crave-able, template-style recipes with seasonal touches, simple techniques, and an underlying nourishing essence that reads as encouraging, rather than prescriptive. Anya’s approach starts with a deep-rooted reverence for what nature provides in all of its seasons—and in all of its sometimes neglected or wasted forms. The thoughtful uses for carrot tops, chickpea soaking liquid, and barley cooking water—like the rest of the book’s delicious plant-based recipes—speak to both virtue and pure enjoyment. This book inspires me to cook (and live!) with a deeper sense of care and appreciation.”
—Laura Wright, author of The First Mess Cookbook
“Anya’s approach to food and the seasons always stands out as creative, inventive, and colorful. Simply Vibrant contains an abundance of inspiring recipes and clever tricks to add more nourishment and adventure to your everyday meals.”
—Amy Chaplin, James Beard award-winning author of At Home in the Whole Food Kitchen
“Anya has the incredible ability to inspire her readers to cook, but more importantly, she helps them tap into their own intuition to create delicious meals in a more relaxed way. I love her emphasis on seasonality, and her creative approach to leaf-to-root cooking, using every ingredient to its fullest potential without wasting a single seed! This recipe collection is bursting with global flavors, unique ingredient combinations, and of course, vibrancy on the highest level.”
—Sarah Britton, holistic nutritionist and author of My New Roots and Naturally Nourished   “We are longtime fans of Golubka Kitchen and Anya’s creative and beautiful plant-based recipes. Her new book is jam-packed with healthy, flavorful, and simple recipes and lots of interesting suggestions on how to cook with the odds and ends of produce that usually are discarded—like making marmalade from watermelon rinds and risotto using broccoli stems. So clever!”
—David Frenkiel and Luise Vindahl, creators of the blog Green Kitchen Stories
“Exciting, vegetable led food.”
— Anna Jones, author of A Modern Way to Cook, A Modern Way to Eat and columnist for The Guardian
“What made me want to cook from Simply Vibrant is its more relaxed approach to plant-based cooking”
—Toronto Star
