Summary of my thoughts on all the New Stuff after talking about it since I woke up: The new letter is not Clancy at all to me. Sure, a few parts of it SOUND like him, I'll give you that. But what new information have we gained from this letter, really? Not the other pages, not what the Bishops wrote. Just the Clancy letter. Clancy is standing at the edge of the water, thinking about this new power that he now wields. He knows he must cross back over the water and head back to Dema to enact a plan. It is a very watered-down version of the last handwritten letter that we got from Clancy. We know from the Evidence note on the side of the most recent letter that this was a transcription. However, I believe that this is not a one-to-one transcription. They took his words and changed them to suit their own needs. They took out the parts where he was unsure of the power that he now has. His questions, his talks of his experiences- everything that humanizes him is gone, leaving only the sentiment of "I have this power. I'm stronger than them, and I am going to use it." It uses/references old gimmicks- gimmicks that the Bishops would be aware of if they knew of Clancy's letters. The doubling up of the letters to communicate something. "Their compass lies". To me, they are looking back at old letters and trying to copy the style to produce something new. Interestingly enough, it also removes any and all mention of the Banditos. Clancy can outsmart the Bishops. Clancy stands there, at the shore. Clancy's left "embers of inspiration". The difference in the lines "This new power of psychokinesis worked, and I believe it can work again." of this new letter vs. "We both believe that we can use it [psychokinesis] to change the momentum of this war." of the old letter shows this best. The Bishops have removed the Banditos from the narrative entirely, giving the citizens of Dema a singular enemy to fear. They want to point fingers at this singular entity, someone who can harness this new power. They know that people have noticed Clancy. They know that they've read his letters. This is all just more propaganda, created to discredit him. It's a smear campaign.

what I don't think people understand is that abusers aren't a rare find. I had a lot of kids get involved in bullying me and some of those emotional abusers went as far as SA and most of them don't care to acknowledge they did this like it must be kept some secret now that were all adults, and so many got involved because it was like the new trending thing to bully me. when Amanda Todd got bullied - 15 kids showed up to beat her up or cheer on the people who were verbally abusing her in the halls because it was seen as a good thing to bully Amanda Todd, those kids all said "you deserve this" to her. the thing with bullying is its a mob mentality, kids are easily persuaded to get involved especially when the main abusers can present fabricated evidence or witnesses; bullies show up for bullies.

If you see someone being smear campaigned, i.e:

people declaring horrifying statements about them online, as if there was no doubt about it, with very little or absolutely no evidence

people theorizing about how this person is secretly x or y, and all theories are scandalously negative and almost unbelievable and not in the line of this person’s character

people being smug and gleeful about how much they hate this certain individual and not restraining themselves from using slurs, threats and desires for violence

people going out of their way to take anything this person has said out of context, interpreting it in the worst possible way, drawing conclusions that are at their best, a giant reach

people dragging things far from that person’s past, parading it around as a proof of evil and a proof of this entire campaign being reasonable and deserved

people acting like this certain individual is the root of all evil, irredeemable, responsible for the biggest crimes of humanity

do NOT contact this individual to tell them what has been said!

do NOT come personally in contact to ask this individual if this is all true and to prove to you personally that it’s wrong!

do NOT send them links so they could see in person what horrifying things are being said about them!

do NOT ask this person to publicly apologize and defend themselves against the claims as if they owe this to you, personally!

You have to know that smear campaigns are designed to trigger this individual. Whatever is being said about them, will usually be the most painful, most vulnerable and most damaging things you could say to them. If this person is desperately trying to help a certain group of people, they’ll be accused of hurting and devastating this exact group, if they struggle with the past of violence and abuse, they’ll be called an abuser, if they are spreading information and trying to raise awareness for a cause, they’ll be accused of hurting this cause. If you come with this information to the individual who is smear campaigned, you will trigger them, you will cause them pain and mortification, horror and shock not only that people are saying those outrageous things, but also that they’re now demanded to think up a defense, on the spot, so everyone would not believe it.

And asking them to defend themselves will not help end the smear campaign, it will only help it get bigger. The people smearing them want them to be triggered, want them to be notified, to see them react in pain, in rage, in devastation, so they know which part of the campaign hurt the most, so they can do more of that. Until this person is traumatized and chased off of their platform, or out of the entire community.

No matter how badly you need to know the truth, you do not have the right to harm a person for it. You don’t have the right to personal explanation from someone, just because there are the most painful lies being spread about them. If you want proof, wait. Time will tell you what you’re dealing with, you can also use your brain and figure out if the smear campaign is without facts, without sources, and created sorely out of malice and glee of destroying someone. The best you can do is to not interact with it, to not take part in trying to bring someone down. Nobody deserves to be traumatized like this, and nobody kind would ever take part in doing this to someone.
