[deep inhale] So...this is bad.
Soulbunni, a talented artist, art student, and YouTube content creator, was doxxed by people who it seems were angered by her criticisms of the racist actions of their favorite "leftist" Internet celebrities, and thus has to move when the fall semester ends in December for her own safety.
Tumblr media
I am LIVID, and this is just another case of the toxicity fostered within these online "leftist" spaces that's sadly become all too common.
But what's important right now is helping Soulbunni afford her move. So please pass on her fundraiser, and contribute if you're able. This is just...so inhumane.

"DNI-Related Controlling Behaviors: The use of a DNI to try to enforce control over anyone who so much as ‘likes’ a post of theirs to an unhealthy degree, often backed up with social shaming, harassment, and callouts. The DNI may also be used as a social ‘trap’ to create an acceptable target for abuse. NOTE: While reasonable boundaries are good and DNIs are not by themselves red flags, this goes beyond reasonable boundaries and into unreasonable controlling behaviors. The use of ‘DNI’ in this criterion refers to all ‘boundary rule’-esque pages such as BYFs and other such things, not just DNIs.
"Vagueing, harassing, making callouts, or otherwise attacking people who are using the website as intended (i.e.- interacting with posts on their feed in any fashion without stalking the op) and likely did not see the DNI. Especially if the DNI is hidden or nonspecific and vague (ex- ‘no freaks’ or ‘standard DNI’), making them even easier to violate by accident.
"Frequently interacts aggressively with people who are clearly on their DNIs and then calls them boundary violators for responding to the harassment."
- Excerpt from "Safety in Alterhuman Spaces," a document by the Dragonheart Collective. Emphasis in the original. You can read the whole document here (PDF).
A note on language in the above quote: DNI (Do Not Interact) and BYF (Before You Follow) mean a type of post that many people put on their social media accounts to tell others about their boundaries.

The concept of "Being viewed as transmisogynistic is worse than actual acts transmisoginy" has reached it's logical extreme and the term Terf has become so muddled that now it's becoming a common tactic to accuse trans women of being TERFs to have the veneer of trans allyship while harassing trans women. It's being used from "drinking radfem koolaid" said by trans androphobia truthers to "you look like a garden variety TERF" by a PickMe Transfem looking to throw her sisters under the bus to trans women being called gender essentialists for making egg jokes.
And it not just Terf accusations. It's also accusing trans of being Crypto Channers or kiwifarms users. Basically any predator of trans women are becoming the new smokescreen to harass trans women under and it's fucking insulting and disgusting. TERFs are a hate group that's specifically seeking our genocide. Kiwifarms is a site dedicated to doxing us and painting us as sexual predators.
Not only is it paradoxical and impossible for a trans woman to be a TERF but the attempt to paint them as one is an act of violence. It is attempt to to not only ostracize us from the wider queer community but from from our sisters. The very small community that we had to carve for ourselves to feel the smallest amount of safety. It's lying and giving otherwise trans positive people the greenlight to harass us and tell themselves that they are doing it to protect the rest of us from us.
If you find yourself falling for this you seriously need to reevaluate your allyship to trans women.

Yet Another Thing Black women and BIPOC women in general have been warning you about since forever that you (general You; societal You; mostly WytFolk You) have ignored or dismissed, only for it to come back and bite you in the butt.
I'd hoped people would have learned their lesson with Trump and the Alt-Right (remember, Black women in particular warned y'all that attacks on us by brigading trolls was the test run for something bigger), but I guess not.
Any time you wanna get upset about how AI is ruining things for artists or writers or workers at this job or that, remember that BIPOC Women Warned You and then go listen extra hard to the BIPOC women in your orbit and tell other people to listen to BIPOC women and also give BIPOC women money.
I'm not gonna sugarcoat it.
Give them money via PayPal or Ko-fi or Venmo or Patreon or whatever. Hire them. Suggest them for that creative project/gig you can't take on--or you could take it on but how about you toss the ball to someone who isn't always asked?
Oh, and stop asking BIPOC women to save us all. Because, as you see, we tried that already. We gave you the roadmap on how to do it yourselves. Now? We're tired.
Of the trolls, the alt-right, the colonizers, the tech bros, the billionaires, the other scum... and also you. You who claim to be progressive, claim to be an ally, spend your time talking about what sucks without doing one dang thing to boost the signal, make a change in your community (online or offline), or take even the shortest turn standing on the front lines and challenging all that human garbage that keeps collecting in the corners of every space with more than 10 inhabitants.
We Told You. Octavia Butler Told You. Audre Lorde Told You. Sydette Harry Told You. Mikki Kendall Told You. Timnit Gebru Told You.
When are you gonna listen?

Yeahhhh,,, maybe you should like,,, not go around saying the same type of shit christian right wing extremists do if you want to have civil conversation, just saying.
Yet another example of an anti behaving aggressively online towards total strangers. Tried to give the benefit of the doubt, went wrong.
Don't harass anyone guys, anti or proshipper, no one deserves harassment. Just block and move on.

I don’t normally post stuff like this but can y’all help me report this guy? He’s been relentlessly spamming me on Youtube for WEEKS trying to get my attention because I asked him to stop self-promoting on other channels. Now he’s even using info from my blog to harass me. I’m not his only target but he seems to have it out for me in particular. He also has sock puppets upvoting his comments and echoing his bigoted opinions.
This was funny at first but now I’m legit annoyed.

(disclaimer/heads up: usage of the word "you" is a general you)
might be a hot take but I think harassment of anyone is bad. no exceptions. "oh what about thie group" "what about this person" nope. don't care. I don't even care if you're talking about a criminal. harassment is bad. shut up. being on the receiving end of harassment is guaranteed to wear anyone down (not to mention harassment isn't legal).
this isn't even just a "they're human too" thing. it's a "why the fuck do you think harassing people makes you better than them." spoiler alert: it never will.
also callouts are stupid too. people are gonna be awful, yeah, but that doesn't mean it's okay to actually allow people to harass them. (you can name people without giving people the means to harass them. hell, you can even give them a fake name.) especially when you don't have all the key information to make an educated decision. even more so when you aren't involved.
seriously block me if you think harassing anyone is okay. learn to realize you never will be better than the people you're harassing.

Instead of using the term 'cancel culture'... (Courtesy of Claude-instant)
A more constructive approach would be to specifically address behaviors like:
Online harassment campaigns against individuals over controversial/unpopular past statements or actions, especially when unrelated to their current work.
Coordinated efforts to damage someone's career or reputation through bullying, threats or lying, rather than open debate of ideas.
Deplatforming or no-platforming controversially from public forums and debates without due process for airing all perspectives.
Purging access to previously public/accepted cultural works or ideas without public input or transparency in decision-making.
Focusing on concrete problematic trends in discourse, rather than undefinable buzzwords, allows outlining reasonable standards and alternatives for a respectful exchange of ideas. It's probably best avoided allegations of "-isms" and kept the emphasis on fair, solution-oriented discussions wherever possible.

For those of my moots who may or may not see this. This is the kind of stuff I’ve been dealing with for a while and my good friend @brightlotusmoon has brought to my attention that they have also been dealing with this person as well likely even longer then me.
I don’t normally do this type of thing but it’s gotten to the point where it’s now excessive and I’m tired of it. This kind of behavior is never okay there is no excuse for it.
Please, if I can ask anything, look after each other and be there for one another, cuz when stuff like this happens, having support always helps a great deal.

My experience with the worst most toxic parts of the IWTV fandom
Okay, there are going to be details here that are changed or admitted for obvious mostly safety reasons. And I personally don't care if you think I'm lying, but it was still a scary experience and I do think there are people in the fandom that need to be aware this crap goes on all over fictional characters. So warning they're going to be mentions of threats a violence, doxing, harassment, the works, It was bad.
Okay a few months ago. I kicked the hornets nest when it comes to the worst part of the interview with the vampire fandom. I had engaged in some fan discourse. Made a couple of posts. A lot of it had to do with defending the added diversity with the casting of Assad and Jacob. Theorizing about possible characters in the future that can be race swapped how it could be a good thing and how it could be historically possible. You get the idea. I love what the show is done with all the race swapping it has added so much to the story.
And then all the sudden I woke up to my inbox being full of over 100 anonymous ask that ranged from the average calling me evil racist. I didn't know the books. How dare I it was ruining the story. I should kill myself. The usual online internet harassment. It was horrible. And they kept on coming and would not stop until I shut off anonymous ask. And they will remain off because of this but again I had well over 100 messages to go through. And it took me well over a week to go through them but when I got to like the last I think 10 one of them stuck out. Not because it was particularly bad because apparently I pissed off the Armand people who don't realize how creepy it is and kind of comes off as pro pedophilia when all of you insist that he has to be 17 much less the racist issues. There's a reason it took me over a week to go through all the messages they made my skin crawl. But this particular message scared the crap out of me it was a death threat with my home address. Someone cared so much about a fictional character. They tracked down my address and threaten to kill me. So guess who immediately started screenshotting the rest of the messages. And had to make a police report. Do you know what it's like having to explain to cops? Yes, I got a death threat with my address over a fictional gay vampire. No, getting death threats over Tumblr is not new to me unfortunately, but my address was new and that I want documented. So being harassed by a couple racist book purists turned into a police report and me buying security cameras. Thank you Tumblr. I nearly deleted the app.
I don't even know if I want to finish the Vampire Chronicles books now because of you idiots you took it way too far. And the worst part is I'm white. I can only imagine what you idiots are doing to the fans of color. Again someone tracked down my address to threaten to kill me. But again it's documented. I filed a police report and if any of you idiots try something I got cameras now.
And for all those who are going to be demanding proof well I thought about sharing a redacted screenshot or maybe a redacted version of the police report. But I decided I would ask the cops what they thought just to be safe. I'm glad I did because they advised me not to do that and they explained to me there is technology out there that if someone really wanted to they can remove that redacting. And I already have one crazy person that knows my address and is threatening to kill me so I don't want another one. So everyone is just going to have to take my word for it. However the cops were all for me sharing my story because of the rise of things like swatting. A in a nearby police department had to deal with a middle schooler (so a 11 to 13-year-old) who made a bomb threat at their school because they didn't want to take a test. So, they think this would be good for people to hear because what you do on the internet does have real life consequences.
So remember people the internet is real life. These things have real life consequences. And I'm pretty sure these people thought it was a joke. But now I have to worry about things like someone breaking into my house killing me or swatting. Which is something I didn't even think of until the cops brought it up. And it does affect my real life. I'm looking to move and hopefully we'll be out of my house soon. So, thank you, Internet stranger
So to sum it all up. The fandom needs to take a bunch of chill pills and calm down. Because we are literally harassing, bullying and threatening people out of the fandom. Again, I thought about leaving Tumblr due to this experience and now I'm having to move. Thank you. Interview with the vampire fandom please do better.

This was really difficult to record. I know I’ll get a ton of hate for this, but it was a necessary step in healing. Your likes and supportive comments on the video would be much appreciated. 🩷💙💚🧡

Severe distress: caused impairment in social, occupational, and/or school functioning, and (would have) required professional help
Moderate distress: caused negative emotions and other negative effects (e.g. physical symptoms of anxiety, sleep problems) but did not cause impairment in the domains mentioned above and wasn't so bad that professional help would have been necessary
Mild distress: caused negative emotions but it was rather easy to get rid of them and it did not cause other negative effects nor would it have required professional help

i hope you are ok, whoever you are. i'm sorry life was so cruel to you you feel the need to act out in such a way, to look at someone who's living her life with no hinderance on another person and try to find the worst ways to tear her apart. i am very aware no happy, healthy, accomplished person would ever feel the need to do something like this, and so i'm sorry for you, and i wish you the best.
do know that your words don't mean anything to me. i have a great life, amazing friends, an incredible boyfriend, food on the table, a roof over my head, a career. i have a purpose and i'm happy with who I am as a person and most of all, i can sleep well at night knowing i try my hardest to do good by people, knowing there's nothing on my conscience. i can only hope the same for you.

So a close friend of mine (They want their name kept out) received numerous death threats over anonymous asks last night (if you saw the post before they took it down you know.) The point is I doubt anyone will do very much about it except punish them further. Didnt Mr. Tech bro baby boy Matt state while he was harassing Rita on Twitter that all death threats need to be reported to the proper authorities to be investigated as a real threat? Well I'd say they were real fucking tangible threats. Yet who will get punishment? Certainly not the anonymous beta ass terfs.
Get fucked - A loud ass tranny fag bitch.

“I do think her work has informed the industry,” Mark Chen, a lecturer at the University of Washington Bothell, said. “I mean, part of the reason we keep hearing about harassment or sexism in the industry I think is because of her efforts and others like her who (forcibly) made space for others to follow.” Her work also continues to be referred to in academia, where it influences students who may go on to develop games. Tropes vs. Women in Video Games is a staple on digital media and video game class syllabuses. Marc Santos, an associate professor of English at the University of Northern Colorado, used Feminist Frequency in an undergraduate English class that’s focused on research writing on video games. Santos said he uses Sarkeesian’s work on Feminist Frequency because it stands up to this day, but also as a way to show students how to research and present analysis and criticism. In a recent project, students used videos like “Lingerie Is Not Body Armor” and “Strategic Butt Coverings,” which analyze the male gaze in video games, as a basis of analysis of clothing in the first 100 role-playing games that pop up on Steam. “I think there’s a lot of students — both men and women — who sort of realize that the portrayal of women, and all marginalized groups, in video games is bad. But Sarkeesian’s work helps focus their attention,” Santos said. “She provides a lens through which it becomes almost impossible to deny or ignore the extent of the problem.” Tropes vs. Women in Video Games continued until the end of 2017, and through years of abuse and harassment that one could simply call hell. The harassment Sarkeesian and her team experienced is unconscionable and included dangerous levels of violence, like bomb threats made at events Sarkeesian was attending. Sarkeesian’s first work predated the period of time now called Gamergate — a movement that is now considered a watershed moment in the rise of far-right extremism, a channeling of decades’ worth of bigotry and hatred embedded into systems, platforms, and communities both online and off. When Tropes vs. Women in Video Games continued through Gamergate, that hatred was channeled toward her and others who advocated for better representation in games.
Around the time she started uploading videos critical of media like Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, I had my first come-to-Jesus moment with the gaming community and just how violently racist and misogynist it was in the Left 4 Dead [2] and Resident Evil 5 fanspace.
Nothing has changed about the L4D[2] and RE fanspace, or gaming, in that regard (they just moved to Reddit). But when she started uploading videos critical of gaming culture and the toxicity of that space, I was grateful to see the pushback, because it gave rise to other voices that occupied areas she either missed or weren't her focus.
It wouldn't be a stretch to say that Sarkeesian, Not Your Momma's Gamer, and I Need Diverse Games, were all a big part of why the dudebro-to-Ggate culture that was once so acceptable in gaming magazines and other gaming spaces, don't have mainstream games culture by the throat any longer, and why this blog exists.
