what’s your process like for making a new poetry edit? like, do you find a poem and go hmm i could do something with this, do you look for poems/images that fit a specific narrative, or something else entirely? i just love all your edits, and i’m curious about the creative process behind them!
ooh i love this question! i love talking poetry edits!
it depends a little bit!
sometimes (and this is especially true for the shorter poems) i come across a poem that reminds me of a player and immediately sorta know what i want the finished product to look like.
(like with the Marner “i was never a child just a smaller image of myself” edit where i stumbled across the poem and KNEW there were pictures of baby-leafs-fan Marner i could use)
more often than not i will see a picture or read someones analysis of an event and it will remind me of a specific line of poetry. (see: the Tkachuk poem inspired by this post, and the Marner poem inspired by this post) these are usually the better edits!
every once in a while i will collect a few pictures that tell a story on their own and try to match them with a poem after the fact. (flower poem is an example of this)
And sometimes my friends send me poems and go “i bet you could do something really awful with this” (@charleskachow & @jonassiegenthighler honourable mentions) in which case i usually just go “okay i have a poem. i have an hour. what am i doing.” (result: hot dog poem, red wings poem, Tavares poem)
when it comes to the little impromptu ones there is no system. no process. just whichever poem first comes to mind when i think about that player + a getty images picture i like
all this goes to say: no real process. i am chronically online. i listen to a lot of hockey podcasts. i think about poetry 24/7. everything reminds me of some poem or other. and even when i’m not feeling terribly inspired i have a backlog of 20+ poems that i should really get around to finishing at some point.
"I decided it's my break day today,
Oh coincidentally, I'm gonna sit here, and watch you work."
also it's too cute how Nemo just came run at me whenever i sat on a bench
do you ship ravage and drift? you draw them a lot and they're always so touchy lol
nah. they're really touchy amicas, tho. probably because im always touchy with my friends and it just kinda rubs off on my art. ravage is my Me character so i do end up giving him traits i have. one of those is being touchy with people he cares about 🤷♂️. he's especially touchy with drift as when they were grouped together in the dead end (which is where they met in my brain), ravage spent a lot of hours curled up in drift's car alt with laserbeak and buzzsaw for shelter. that touchy aspect never really left their dynamic.
and besides,
drift/deadlock's candle has always been lit for someone else.
nobody understands wash/south friendship. anyone not in the know thinks they hate each other, but they don't. sure, they think the other is the single most annoying person in the known universe, but when push comes to shove, they're an okay team so long as they both understand that things are going to become extremely chaotic, they will be screaming at each other non stop, and as the guy who's really, really good at getting out of bad situations where death is almost certain alive, wash (generally) takes point.
HI ive been following your art for a while and i adore the brushes you use, especially how you color/shade (there was a color page for deep blue that i keep coming back to cause oml) would you be okay with sharing your settings/what you use? sorry if this has been answered before
here are the brushes I use! writing out an overview of how I render would be too many words so I put together a quick video, hope it helps :)
everyday i log onto the internet i am forced to fisticuffs combat the halbarry default yaoi allegations. THEY’RE NOT A BASIC BRUNETTE/BLONDE JOCK/NERD DYNAMIC THEY’RE MORE THAN THAT (coping)
i swear to god i have this super vivid memory of a mp100 omake that i could’ve sworn was real but after weeks and weeks of scouring the internet, i can’t find anything on it or any evidence that it existed. I guess I either made it up, dreamed it, or it was an old tumblr post that I can’t find anymore bc Tumblr’s search function is god-awful.
Okay seeing as the live action atla q&a tumblr thing has popped up at the top of my feed this is your friendly reminder that the cast of this show are CHILDREN.
I don’t care what beef you have with the show or any changes being made, none of it is the actors fault and if I see anyone being rude to literal actual kids it is an automatic block.
There is never a reason to harass actors about any show, but especially kids. Like either engage sincerely with it or stfu.
okay yes sm has released a statement about what has been going with riize and say they are gonna take action against people that have been invading their privacy (idk how much of this is true but anyways) my question is… why didn’t they do this with seunghan? they just put him on hiatus and then made him apologize they did nothing to protect him making it seem like he did something wrong i genuinely go crazy bc of this fucking company
ok op I found your art a bit ago when I got back into aa and immediately got reinvested into narumitsu and I. Am obsessed with the way you draw Phoenix. he is so nice to look at and idk if I'm making sense with this but your art is so calming!! it's so good!! do you have any art tips for beginners? I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I just really enjoy your style and your art is a big inspiration. have a good day/night!
thank you so much ;_;! with art tips i never really know where to start esp cuz "beginner" is a really broad spectrum, but the best i can give (aside from telling you to do studies and dumping a masterpost of stuff people already have talked over endlessly) are 2 things that drastically helped improve my outlook on art
1) Draw things simply for the sake of it being fun. Basically this post
sometimes I would get so caught up in my own head about trying to make the Next Best Thing but ended up just killing any joy drawing gave me which defeats the whole point of art for me. Sometimes you have to draw some silly shit just to be like damn this is fun !
2) Let yourself be inspired by other art. By that I mean look at other artists work and actually analyze what you enjoy about it (color, pose, composition, etc.) and see how you could apply that to your own work. It's not cheating to use some colors or a pose you found interesting in one persons work. the Key here is being INSPIRED and not COPYING please for the love of god nobody misinterpret this
if you did want any advice on something specific feel free to shoot another ask! im very bad with Broad topics like this </3
EDIT: i'm gonna go ahead an link a really good post iraprince made on the basics of getting started with art! It's a lot more thorough and also the part about learning to separate your inspiration is really good: https://www.tumblr.com/iraprince/674915305693265920/if-youd-never-seriously-practiced-art-how-would
