Steve finds out Tommy is a cheating piece of ass right before his lease is up and they were supposed to move in together. Robin says she's got a friend of a friend that Steve can crash with for a bit until he figures something out. So Steve and Eddie start living together.

I love the way that the author shows how toxic Tommy was while still making it understandable for people who have never been in abusive relationships to see why Steve kept going back to him even though he was trash. While sparks fly between Steve and Eddie from go there's never an element of a rebound or thinking that Steve' ready to move on when he's clearly not. There is time for them to be friends first before they fall into bed together even with the attraction there. Even when the major conflict of the story hits they handle it like adults, Steve needs to take a walk and pull himself back together and Eddie gives him that. And when Steve comes back and is ready to talk they figure it out. The only gripe I have, and it really is so fucking minor, is the ending is kinda spoiled because never once in the fic does it mention Steve even trying to look for another apartment.

We are in the middle of Q4 2023. A year ago, when people were talking about, "Can there be a soft landing?" and were doing these surveys asking, "In a year's time are we going to have a soft landing or are we going to have a recession?" the overwhelming consensus of economists was, "We are going to have a recession." And that didn't happen. And the overwhelming consensus of economists was, "We are going to have very much higher unemployment." And that didn't happen.

The thing that did happen was that we kept having economic growth and jobs growth and we brought down inflation. This was the "Goldilocks" scenario, the soft landing that everyone thought was highly improbable. But it happened.

A soft landing does not mean we will never, ever again have a recession. A soft landing means where we are right now actually happened in contravention to everyone's predictions.
