God AU Info Sheet
Luffy is the god of freedom. He’s also one of the youngest gods and was not initially taken all that seriously. But, after he knocked thunder god Enel into orbit, they all kinda panicked and realized that oh no this guy is the real deal. Gods are not supposed to meddle in human affairs much outside of keeping them in line, but Luffy does not care about all that. He’s the god of freedom, you think he’s going to listen to some stupid rules? Ha! No.
He is by far the easiest god to summon when you need help. You could leave a half eaten sandwich on an altar and he’ll be there loudly chewing on it before you’ve even finished the prayer. He’ll just be staring at you expectantly while you finish your tale of woe and when you’re done he’s just like ‘wow that guy sounds like he sucks, where’s he at?’. All he asks for in exchange is a feast afterwards. There’s also a chance that he might show up on his own anyways just because he wanted to rock some facist’s shit. Luffy is beloved by the people but loathed by the gods.
Zoro is the god of battle. He isn’t a particularly bloodthirsty god, he cares more about the skill and honor of a good duel. While he isn’t as young as Luffy, he still isn’t considered an old god. Like Luffy, he has a tendency to get involved in human issues due to him wandering the earth in search of a good fight (and also alcohol).
On the polar opposite side of the spectrum from Luffy in terms of how easy he is to summon. You could leave the best sake at an altar and make your case, but on the off chance he shows up it’s entirely a coincidence. He’s the god of battle not directions, okay? It’s gotten better now that Luffy is dragging him around. He’s somewhat respected by humans, but there’s a lot of irritation from his inability to answer prayers. Gods are mostly neutral towards him.
Nami has taken over as the weather goddess since Luffy evicted Enel. She is harsh but fair. While she does expect some hefty offering for being such an amazing goddess, she won’t punish people for not making offerings if they had a legitimate reason for not doing so (like being ravaged by a plague or something). However, if they don’t appreciate her kindness and fail to make offerings after they’ve gotten back on their feet… May the other gods have mercy on them because she certainly won’t.
She listens to every prayer she receives. You won’t see her, but she is there in spirit and is listening closely to what they have to say. Whether or not she’ll help depends on the severity of the circumstances as well as the offering that came with the prayer. Giving good weather is easy enough, but if they want her to fight someone she’ll just point Luffy in their direction. She can fight, but prefers not to. Relatively well liked by gods.
Usopp is the god of mighty strength! Of incomprehensible intelligence! Of sniping! Of- Okay not really. He’s just some guy with incredible charisma and luck that managed to convince people that he’s a god when he isn’t. Despite this, he has some enviable connections. Franky is his main guy after Usopp bragged that they were thick as thieves and Franky decided to just go along with it because he found the whole thing hilarious. Franky helps back him up with his tall tales, but he doesn’t carry him completely. He also earned Luffy and co’s approval after trying to save his home village all on his own.
Usopp doesn’t answer prayers unless he just so happens to be in the area and hears it with his own ears. Obviously due to him being human, he can’t hear the prayers the way a god can. Sometimes he swears he hears echoes of prayers, but literally no one believes him. He is telling the truth though! Unbeknownst to him, his father is actually a god so he’s a demigod, making him able to occasionally subconsciously tap into godly abilities. He just hasn’t figured it out yet. Gods leave him alone for the most part because of his dad.
Sanji is the god of harvest. This guy is very much known for being a pushover. He doesn’t want anyone to starve and that manifests in him bending over backwards to try and keep harvests good every year regardless of how difficult it may be. Due to him being such a pushover, he isn’t that well respected because a lot of people take him for granted. For the most part, only people in agriculture take him seriously.
Since he already does his job regardless of offerings, most people don’t bother giving him any. If they want something extra though, he can be persuaded, but only if the one making the offering is a woman or child. He’ll straight up tune out men. Gods look down on him for being so lenient with humans.
Chopper is the god of medicine… In training. Kureha is currently training him to be a potential successor (not that she’s going to be kicking the bucket any time soon but still). He’s the youngest, and was originally just seen as a monster before he was taken in. Chopper is extremely diligent in his studies and cares a lot about helping people, even if they’re unfriendly towards him.
Due to his status of not being a full on god yet, people aren’t making offerings or praying to him. Kureha answers prayers thoroughly and brings Chopper with her every time, so he is getting a feel for how it works. When he has free time, he’ll lurk around medical/health shrines to try and get to the people praying first on his own so he can get more experience. Gods don’t like him because they see him as nothing more than an animal, regardless of how much work he’s done.
Robin is the goddess of knowledge. The people that respect her are few and far between, and that includes the gods. Humans don’t pay her much mind because they can just learn things for themselves, why should they make offerings to her? Plus there’s the fear that she knows too much about dangerous things, this sentiment is shared by the other gods. She knows all languages and has a perfect memory.
On the extremely off chance that she actually receives an offering or prayer, you best believe she’s answering it. Even if it’s something outside of her jurisdiction, she’ll find a way to make it work. While most gods dislike her or even wish her dead, she has found great friends with Luffy and his entourage.
Franky is the god of innovation. There’s never a dull moment for him with all the crazy inventions he throws together like it’s the easiest thing in the world. It’s 50/50 if the invention is going to be legitimately useful or if it’s going to be some crazy nonsense he made just because he could. He’s an extremely good natured guy but he does have his limits, with his biggest pet peeves being intentionally shitty craftsmanship and people who get in the way of innovation. After overhearing Usopp name drop him like their besties, he decided to listen in on him more and found himself appreciating the level of audacity it takes to pull off what he has. That combined with Usopp’s skills for inventing led to Franky taking him under his wing.
While his actions are very appreciated, his eccentric personality and appearance can be more than a little off putting for humans. He gets offerings and prayers regularly, but only from select people that admire him. Franky loves a challenge and to keep busy so he almost always responds if he isn’t already working on something. On a related note, if he catches someone defacing/disrespecting one of Robin’s shrines, he’s throwing hands. And bombs. Gods find him a little obnoxious but don’t hate him or anything.
Brook is the god of performances. Music is his specialty but he enjoys a good theatrical performance as well. He is an ancient god, from back in the days when they almost never interacted with humans. Gods aren’t even all that friendly towards each other, so this was a very lonely time for him. All he would do was perfect his skills in isolation because that’s what everyone else did. Seeing all these younger gods being so in touch with humanity truly inspired him and now it’s rare to not see him in the company of humans.
People who don’t respect the arts typically don’t make offerings, but those who do make offerings and prayers around the clock so they can be blessed with even a fraction of his skills. Brook loves to spread his talents far and wide, so he always makes an appearance now. He doesn’t magically bestow anything on them, they just more or less have a jam session where he gives them some pointers. He was well respected amongst gods because he was once seen as one of the greats, but now they look down on him for spending so much time with humans.
Jinbei is the god of the sea. Like Brook, he’s also one of the ancients. Being around for as long as he has has made him weary, but Luffy is making him find joy in life again. Jinbei is very respected by humans, but it’s more out of fear than anything. The sea is a fierce and often unforgiving entity, and Jinbei can only do so much to control something as massive as an ocean. The fearful responses he receives from people definitely gets to him, but he doesn’t really know how to fix it.
People give him offerings constantly to try and keep the ocean tame, but outside of taking control of a small area for a limited amount of time he can’t do that much about it. Tsunamis are outside of his realm of control, and so are sea kings and other sea life. While he does listen to the prayers, they can blend together thanks to the sheer quantity of them. He feels guilty for not being able to do more, so he doesn’t lash out if people don’t make offerings. However due to the nature of the ocean, it can seem like he does. The gods respect him a lot, but are more than a little nervous to see him hanging around Luffy all of a sudden.

Here's something to consider: Do you think Bryke were kicked out of Netflix's LA ATLA because they were toxic during the whole set? I saw an article on Instagram saying they were fired because they were unproductive, hard to deal with, and were rude most of the time. I sincerely BELIEVE that this is what happened to cause them to leave, because of how you heard all of Mike's jerk ramblings on things (Zutara) and how he and Bryan were praised for the show. I'm thinking Bryke couldn't handle the criticism and Netflix wanted something different to the story but still wanted to keep the story of Avatar intact. Which makes you think...what could make Bryke so adamant about not wanting to change anything? Was it scenes, moments...relationships? Ever since the trailer came out, everything looks fantastic. So WHAT could be so different that made Bryke act like the way they did?
Something to think about. ;)
Thank you for the ask, some interesting points here!
So first of all, I haven't really been active on Instagram since they killed the chronological feed a couple of years ago, so I obviously have no clue what the article you're talking about is and how true it is, but. Yeah, I'd believe that lol, wouldn't be in any way out of character for what I've heard of them and for the rep they've built up over the years
As much as the guests on the podcast are constantly talking about how good at managing the show they were, you also get a very real sense of how rigid they actually are in terms of listening to other people's ideas when they go against their initial ones, even if they would make the show better. Something that really stood out to me is how many times other people are credited for all of the best parts of the show- Zuko's arc being great had nothing to do with them, Iroh's personality was different from what they initially wanted, Toph being a blind girl rather than a huge dudebro (I don't remember if he was also blind or not but like. Regardless they weren't the ones to come up with the Toph we know and love at all)... All of these are things that they've basically admitted to be changes proposed by other people, which they initially resisted. Like!!! They legitimately cannot take the credit for the show's best parts, because they're shit writers- but they have a massive ego because they've been constantly getting praise for shit they didn't do for years. Genuinely they sound like nightmares to work with!!! The cavalier way they dismiss people all the fucking time whenever they disagree with them is just. Really weird for show creators imo, and the way they keep milking the franchise even though they've long since run out of any good ideas- or, really, the ability to execute them in a way that works... Those two fuckers barely worked on anything else worth remembering/noting, so they just keep coming back to the thing that worked once and wondering why they can't get it to work again- and the answer is that they were never the reason why it worked, and they refuse to accept that
As much as I love the original show, it's also incredibly flawed and imo needed many many changes to be deserving of the perfect image it seems to have, and like? I'm genuinely hoping that the changes Netflix make are along those lines rather than like... Sensationalizing it with gratuitous violence or whatever. Zutara would be great, obviously, but... Yeah mostly I just don't want Kataang, and like. I'm being 100% serious when I say that I'm gonna wait for other people to watch the show first so I know if it happens or not, because if it does- I'm just not gonna bother with it.

Thoughts on Lupin: Part 3
Tumblr media
Covered my thoughts on seasons 1 and 2 already and I just finished season 3 so I'm gonna write about it here. Bottom line: HahahahaHA this show rules so much man.
Everything that was strong about the prior seasons is still there if not better, and they patched up several things I otherwise disliked about it. Also god I missed the mark big time by watching the prior seasons with the English dub for some reason, no wonder I didn't like most of the characters when they all sounded like they were sleepwalking. Just, watch with the French audio, don't be an idiot like me.
I actually like Assane's family now? Maybe that's because of the dub thing letting me see the actual performances, but there seemed to be a lot more effort this season to make us care about Claire and Raoul's own struggles and the really bad things they have to deal with because of Assane and how they deal with them. There's an extent to which these characters exist because otherwise Assane would suffer no consequences and no caveats to just doing whatever he wants, a.k.a the cool Lupin stuff we signed up for but can't be too over-indulged in, and that made them feel more like roadblocks than people, but to me this time they actually feel more like people, and people who can have their own things going on or even get involved in the good stuff without compromising their importance, and those consequences thus actually matter more.
Tumblr media
God I can't believe how great the disguises were this season and how many there were. Again, definitely feels like they had to refine the process in the first two seasons so we can have this one with Assane actually going the nine yards with multiple overlapping fake personas and disguises per episode. Omar is masterful in all of them and the show seems so confident that it even lets Ben, Guedira and Claire dip their toes in the action a bit. I was actually really impressed by Coach Alex, even though he does look a bit uncanny and a little A.I-ish. I could still buy that as a real person.
It's doing this thing I really like that The Shadow does, where the character has a lot of different methods by which he achieves his disguises ranging from high-tech/borderline fantasy to very simple DIY tools, but the process featured is obscured enough that you can never fully tell which is being used, and so the character can have this borderline superpower still grounded enough to not look like one.
I actually didn't mind the villain this time around. There's a nice progression of putting Assane against an invisible and seemingly invincible shadowy gang forcing him to do their bidding (which lets them do the heist-of-the-week format without compromising the larger plot), that turns out to be just one horrible man from his past armed with henchmen and a grudge, which means he gets to be developed and taken out within the season without much delay and without Assane having to make stupid out-of-character blunders to let him escape to menace another day (which was a problem I had with Pelligrini). I like that Keller gets to be legitimately scary as a threat to Assane's loved ones, but is also undone by being a stupid piece of shit who only knows how to abuse and manipulate children until they all turn on him, and once he and Assane are on even ground he goes out like a chump.
Putting Pellegrini completely out of sight and saving him for the final twist where he's been pulling a Kingpin in prison with god knows what consequences even warmed me up to him as a villain, if nothing else because, okay, a Lupin worth his name needs a Cagliostro menace, and the ending twist isn't even about him so much as it's about the betrayal of someone Assane confided in.
And unfortunately that ending twist is good enough that it would be awful if any of those three turned out to be the backstabbers and there's equal arguments for being any of them (I don't think it's going to be Pellegrini's daughter precisely because she's the most predictable, I don't think they'd do the Countess of Cagliostro that 1-to-1)
Tumblr media
(Art is from the cover of Lupin: Échec à la reine, which is a prequel novel focused on Benjamin. I don't think it's been translated to English but it got published in Brazil.)
Look, it's good drama, yes, we need stakes to keep this going, yes, but BEN NOOOOO, GODDAMNIT ASSANE
Unfortunately I can't fault Assane that much despite the fact that he barely knew his mom. There was no good option there, Ben would have fumbled it if he was even a little on the plan, and I'm not sure if he later realized why Assane did it or if he didn't realize at all, I mean the ending twist sets him up as one of the potential backstabbers and it's gonna be really fucking heartbreaking if so, but...man, I don't fault the way everyone reacted to that episode, but I can't get that mad at Assane for what he did.
The heist he did with his mom at the prime minister's mansion complete with jetski escape added another 10 years to our lifespan. Utterly delightful. I love this show so much.
I was a bit iffy on how the prior seasons approached the existence of Arsene Lupin books in-text and I'm still a little mixed on it. However, the sheer reverence and omnipresent popularity of Arsene Lupin the character actually isn't even that unrealistic to the character's real life popularity in France or elsewhere, or how much the show has done to refuel said popularity. I mean, hell, I and others got to see it firsthand Lupin being the talk of the town non-stop. It still takes me a little out of the show, but it's far from a dealbreaker.
Major major leg that this thing has above so many other contemporary reboots/adaptations is that this is FUN, Lupin in general should always get to be fun and more than a little stupid sometimes, and this gets it. This thing delights in carrying us through every step of the process by which the main character does his impressive things, laying out all the components in plain sight and putting them together and even letting you feel smart for realizing how it's coming together and still being surprised when it does.
This is the show that Sherlock wishes it was, because of course Lupin can't make a comeback without putting one over his good old rival Sholmes.
The show was always strong, I think, but every season so far's just been refining things and making all of it's strengths better. It's so so good and I hope it keeps going, this thing does crazy numbers every season, I just never see it talked about much in English circles. I'm glad it's been going strong the way it has. Assane has become one of my favorite protagonists in anything and I might even watch the show again soon.
Still unbelievably good and has only gotten better from what was already a very strong start.

a list of things from my season 2 rewatch, in no particular order:
there's a mundane practicality to Nate that's kind of embarrassingly relatable. "I was going to buy a suit but it was really expensive so I borrowed one from my dad" in season 1; "he's going to use a lot of water" about Dani's breakdown in the showers in 2x01. This is... basically exactly how I would respond to both these situations
Very funny that the man Roy describes as "settling for fine" is almost exclusively shown telling stories about almost beating up elderly celebrities
"Do you believe the return of Jamie Tartt will impact that so called 'vibe'" I don't have a point I just love this line.
love everyone supporting Sam in the Dubai Air protest but I feel like researching the sponsorships is probably supposed to be someone's job? That being said they were already the sponsor in season 1 and Rupert probably wouldn't care that their parent company was polluting Nigeria, and I can see how re-doing all the due diligence on the established sponsorships wouldn't be high up in the line of priorities
start of some tonal problems — trying to reintegrate Jamie into the team by shouting and flipping tables comes off a bit weird as a comedy beat when the previous episode has Jamie openly discussing his abusive father
kind of hilarious that the kebab guy thinks Ted is Roy's dad when he's like. maybe 8 years older
the end of 2x05 is very clearly a reference to something (presumably a romcom) and I believe the fact that I don't know what it is makes it much funnier. I do feel kind of bad that Roy has to spend the entire match in a suit when it appears to be quite cold outside, though
"maybe there's a good reason she hasn't replied. maybe she got hit by a bus." (Isaac) "or a train?" (Dani) they are so good at comforting
I tend to need a fair bit of personal space myself so I absolutely understand where Keeley is coming from in 2x07, and the way Roy responds to learning that she feels smothered ("I feel like a fucking idiot," "you've been making out like I'm following you around like some creepy shadow" (paraphrased)) is obviously a product of his own insecurities and he doesn't initially seem to understand that alone time is a legitimate need that doesn't inherently reflect poorly on him,  but ultimately I think the problem itself is more a result of Keeley's difficulty expressing her own needs than of Roy failing to intuit them
The first time I heard Jamie say his thing about giving Richard space I thought he was trying to subliminal message Roy. He definitely wasn't but I was very impressed for a second there
The hug. The HUUUUUG. I am having a feeling
my controversial favourite episode is Beard After Hours — it feels like an episode of a different show, but TL is a bit of an outlier in terms of my tastes and 2x09 is closer to the norm. That being said I didn't start watching until after all of season 2 had come out and might feel differently if I'd been watching the episodes as they came out
the bit where they're singing at the funeral makes me want to crawl out of my skin with vicarious embarrassment. I have never managed to listen to this entire bit with the sound up.
Is sparkling water actually much more common in the UK than in the US? I'm Canadian and it's generally not the default kind of water to offer people, but it's also not as much of a novel concept as it seems to be to Ted.

I’m late to the Hazbin Hotel stuff, but I’ve binged it a few times recently and just have to say that I’ve never seen an abusive relationship that looked so much like mine portrayed so correctly (as in both accurately and in being completely condemned by the narrative) as Angel and Valentino.
I’ve seen a little of the discourse on this and I’m gonna add my thoughts under the cut.
Gonna start by saying 1. I was lucky enough to get out of my eight-year long abuse/DV situation in 2019 and I’m safe and okay now 2. I know everyone’s experience is different and I’m specifically talking about my experience of being in a long-term abusive situation and don’t mean to diminish anyone who’s experience with SA/DV was different than mine and 3. this is all high praise for what the show did, because it may not sound like it at first because it is legitimately hard for me to watch, especially the first time through.
I’ve realized I’m probably rambling out of order at this point and I apologize to anyone who’s chosen to read these words I just had to shout into the tumblr void but oh well.
Yes, I read the trigger warning at the beginning of e4. I braced myself because that one is typically fine with a heads up for me, but I still wasn’t prepared. I barely made it through that first watch because it didn’t warn about the DV tied to the SA. I’d already barely made it through the scene in e2 where Angel Dust is listening to voicemails from Valentino because jfc it’s so painfully accurate. I heard some of that stuff verbatim from my abuser. Word for word exactly the same.
The other part that’s accurate is how self-destructive Angel is as a coping mechanism and his reasons why. “If I end up broken, maybe I won’t be his favorite toy anymore. And maybe he’ll let me go.” It’s. So. Accurate. To my experience at least, which is one that looked a lot like their whole relationship.
“Loser Baby” is absolutely fine with me. Because again, it’s so accurate. Having someone sit with you and say “hey, I clearly see that you’re not being treated right no matter how hard you try and fake things, and that you’re at rock bottom and not doing good things with the ways you’re dealing with that, and I’m here for you anyway” is what pushed me to finally leave. My now-best friend who at the time was my co-worker who’d just been hired a few months prior is the one who said it to me. He saved my life in more ways than one and I’m forever grateful for it. I’ve read a few things saying the song was calling Angel a loser in a victim blaming way, and that’s not how I took it at all. Admitting how much things suck, saying that aloud, including the ways I’d changed for the worse was crucial for me in the process of leaving and trying to heal afterwards.
“Poison” wasn’t even the part that was difficult to watch for me, even though those scenes are (mostly) what earned e4 the trigger warning at the opening. But the lyrics hit me hard. “My story’s gonna end with me dead from your poison.” I lived this for years. I can’t overstate how much this was the reality of my experience. I thought that was how things would end up for me. I didn’t think I’d have a way out from this person who was both hurting me and making me the absolute worst version of myself possible. I was so sure I’ve of those two things would eventually be the end of my story. I’m very very lucky it wasn’t and I’m grateful for the resources I had that let me leave when I could.
This was a whole lot of rambling to really just say I’ve never felt so seen and respected by the representation of abuse in a piece of media. Maybe it’s because I’m coming off feeling weird about things in OFMD2 and withholding saying any on that because reasons. But I can definitely weigh in accurately in the abuse plot line in Hazbin and it’s all praise from me. Would I have avoided watching it if I’d have known how big of a plot line that would be? Yes, probably. I would’ve at least read spoilers ahead of time to try and gauge it. I nearly stopped it a few times because I wasn’t expecting it to be so painfully close to my own experience and shown so blatantly instead of being implied off-screen.
But am I glad I watched it? Absolutely. Mostly because the narrative so clearly frames everything as capital-b Bad. And I’m grateful they showed what they did how they did, and even more grateful and that the narrative (which is specifically working with a major, prominent, surface-level text theme of redemption/redeem-ability) frames Valentino as an irredeemable villain for his role as the abuser, while also giving Angel Dust three-dimensions in his own flaws that he’s responsible for. It’s done flawlessly imo. And I’m glad I watched it, even though it was hard.

Queen of Tears, ep 11
Firstly, I do not buy Hae In's mother's tears. AT ALL. Now she wants to play at being her mother?? If, at any point, we had seen some sort of hesitation or regret on her face with her interactions with Hae In similar to how Hae In and Hyun Woo would look at one another then maybe I could buy it. But she hasn't done that. She's been horrid to Hae In this entire time. Even with Hae In hinting she was going through something or the aunt trying to nudge her towards Hae In.
You do not get to wipe away years and years of cruelty to your child just because now the child is dying. What's worse is she knew what she was doing to Hae In. She recognized it, but didn't stop. Now Hae In is even apologizing to her mother!! "I wasn't an easy daughter". No Hae In, if you were not an easy daughter it was only out of self preservation due to your mother's treatment. Hae In's mother has done nothing to earn Hae In's forgiveness yet all seems to be forgiven. This plot point is driving me wild.
I adore that the first thing Hae In did when she woke up, once Soo Cheol left the room, was to continue on with the thoughts she was having when she passed out. She told Hyun Woo that she loves him, that she has always loved him and she was sorry for what she's done. It's feels like they've really turned a corner. They are communicating and working together. They have more to do, but it's so good that it's out in the open. They do need to talk about the loss of the baby though.
Between the scene on the bench at the hospital, to Hyun Woo drying Hae In's hair (you know she can work that hair drier just fine), they are genuinely cute together. They also make a great team, judging from the way they were able to put together the shredded paper.
Just what exactly did Eun Sung do to Hae In in university? I'm a little baffled because the start of the show they did make it seem that they were legitimate friends who drifted apart like people do. Except in this episode Hae In says she cut ties with him. He was there for her when she was struggling yet HE was the reason she was struggling. Eun Sung says if she had just liked him in the first place, he wouldn't have done those things? What things? Because it sounds somewhat similar to what he's done now - pushed her into a ditch so he can pull her out. So I am little confused at their portrayal at some parts through this show since while Hae In drew lines, she also seemed to be connecting to an old friend.
I do love how Hae In and Hyun Woo are completely in sync when the both tell Eun Sung, separately, that they are staying with the other. And do not need to explain themselves further.

Episode 3 spoilery thoughts below (lots of spoilers for the books).
I really love how, even though the show is so changed from the book in many ways, it also feels so true to the books.
- I am really looking forward to the soundtrack release. Amazon will take all my money.
- I didn’t mind “be steadfast” not being included? I noted it, but didn’t really care?
- Nynaeve’s parents!
- Crinsomthorn again, huh. Gonna be a repeated motif this year?
- This has shades of Aginor and is a horribe touch (affectionate)
- Elnore is awesome! As I would expect!
- How on earth would she manage to memorize that long Old Tongue passage after hearing it once?
- Elnore watching her daughter as she is brutally stabbed to death is really overkill. My sister is invested in watching now but can’t handle, like, any violence, so I have to tell her when to turn away. I’m going to have to mute this bit—even I have a hard time with it, and I’ve enjoyed GoT and a couple seasons of Vikings.
- I kind of like how shocking the water dumped over her head is everytime they use it. It seems as much a violantion as the arches themselves. And “washed clean” just seems like wishful thinking.
- Tam!
- Nice to see Natti sober. She’s speaking all of Nynaeve’s worst fears right now.
- I forgot Nynaeve had seen Healing and that it’s been established she can copy any weave after seeing it once. Of course, she isn’t upset enough right now to channel, but it was also spelled out she wouldn’t be able to channel anyway in the arches. I am so ready to see Nynaeve the Healer.
- “How is Rand?” Knife straight to the heart. Invited to stay with Tam until he dies. “I can’t tell you how good it is to see your face.” Wisdom Nynaeve was pretty cool too.
- The fact that she sees the arches as a means to get her people a cure—she isn’t choosing the Tower over them, just what they can do. But Tam calling after her to not leave is even more poignant than Marin in the books, imo.
- Zoe going into the third arch 😭
- This is very a very trippy scene. Rosamund says they are filming something really psychadelic for S3. That’s gotta be Snakes and Foxes, right?
- The lines from Lan here are my absolute favorite from that passage. The “I will hate the man you choose…” is fine. But telling someone she’s as beautiful as a sunrise, as fierce as a warrior? I am fully swooning.
- Red is just not Nynaeve’s color, I think. (Zoe can rock anything, but Nynaeve is not going to wear much red ever)
- Just how empty “you are washed clean of your sins” sounds. “It’s alright, the blood isn’t yours” is not exactly what she needed to hear. It’s properly horrifying.
- A bloody hadori
- I don’t blame her for walking out at this point, and I would have been disappointed if she hadn’t.
- “You’re going to be a woman who’s actually worthy of that title.” Not a fan of book Egwene (actually, she’s my least favorite character—the fact that we share many traits in common has nothing to do with it, I’m sure!), but I look forward to seeing show Egwene come into her own.
- How hard must it be for her to return to the Two Rivers, without any of the kids, and no ability to use Healing?
- I love that Daniel likes filming Lanaeve as much as i enjoy watching this.
- I’ve watched this scene obsessively through gifs as soon as they were available
- “I could come with you.” Taken right from TSR, with the response we’d all like to see in an AU
- They way he holds her, and she just relaxes into him, and he rests his cheek on her head. Swooning some more.
- The pitchers are white, black, and swirl
- See, Darkfriends aren’t entirely evil. They feel bad about things too.
- Aww, Liandrin is legitimately upset. I think she sees a lot of herself in Nynaeve and wanted a mentee.
- They named the girl who gets dragged away by the Seanchan. So we’ll see her in the future?
- The Southern accent is amazingly good. Also some of the soliders have baseball bats as weapons. Will they do anything else to drive home the colonizing invaders are American?
- I wonder who this Seanchan guard is who selects Uno? Egeanin, maybe? I mean, they didn’t have to show her face. Maybe she is a named character?
- UNO!!!!!!!!!!
- The side shot of Uno impaled is deeply disturbing. They split the skin from his lips almost to his ear, and both his mandible and maxilla are fractures. It’s accurate, but holy cow that’s intense.
- I didn’t remember Logain had the Talent to see ta’veren, so it doesn’t bother me at all that he can tell men can channel. Quite frankly, it’s a good excuse for him to be out of the Black Tower later, recruiting.
- Again, I like Rand seeking out help wherever he can find it (Errol with the sword, Logain with the OP). I mean, what else is he going to do?
- Gleeman in a cloak! Branding! Hunt for the Horn!
- Lanfear is remakably up to date on the local lore for someone who was asleep for the last 3000 years. Does Ishy have a crash seminar for them on waking?
- “Your grief is your own.” Too bad the only psychiatrist in the series is evil.
- “Someone I respected.” Liandrin does feel guilty.
- I look forward to Mat rising up and proving Liandrin wrong about every word.
- “It’s not always the most powerful women who write history, it’s the ones who survive.” Ooo, chills. This show is actually going to make me care about Egwene isn’t it?
- The Cairheinin party! I love they included this, and the invitations, and him burning it! And, of course, the red coat.
- This hunt for the horn lie is a great way to showcasse just how horrible upper Cairheinin society is. “One less poor mouth for the rich to feed.” I remember the Tairan Lords are terrible toward poor people, but geez, these guys too!
- Naturally, Selene finds this plot amusing. At what point do you think he’ll catch on that she’s evil?
- Asmodean is going to teach Rand, that’s my prediction. But that doesn’t mean Rand has nothing to learn from Logain. He’s willing to learn from anyone who can teach him, no matter how unconventional.
- Ishy kept trying to get the boys to drink in TAR, right? Is this referrencing that?
- Ishamael making Perrin afraid of the wolf side is genius. A much better reason to be reluctant than in the books. “The more wolf you are the more you’re mine.” Chills.
- Hopper!
- I don’t have a problem with Min being made to work for Liandrin. She’s clearly reluctant. She also has no reason to care about Mat, really, and at least show Min comes across as someone who does what she needs to do to survive. I assume the EF5/Rand will eventually show her something worth staying and fighting for.
- Oh, she is crazy crazy.
- I like how they show the taint on the male weaves.
- And the inn gets set on fire too. They did read the books! Guess that’s the end of the red coat, huh?
- I am in love with Elayne. Seriously, how did that happen??
- I note Nynaeve is wearing mostly blue and green. Lan’s favorite colors on women.
- Fancy Mat and happy Perrin!
- Also nice that it seems Lan may do most of the cooking? Wise choice.
- That hair is…um…a look.
- Mat’s left eye!
- I love that Nynaeve saves herself.
- What more can be said about that ending? Definitely more devastating than in the books. Zoe is amazing. All excellent changes to make sense with the show story/character and move her along, give her the “why” she needs to be at the Tower. Amazing and such great storytelling.

Trektober Day 30 - Mentors
This is a little scene from the This Be The Verse universe that I wrote pretty early in the development of the series (definitely before Tell Me You See Me was finished). I've never quite figured out what to do with it and never liked it quite enough to just post it on its own on AO3. (I might just create a repository for assorted miscellanea like this from that AU.) I've always seen the Julian and Garak of this universe as having some decided helicopter parent tendencies (which Julian is in denial about and Garak just sees as taking perfectly legitimate precautions), so this was just me playing around with that a bit.
For context, in the epilogue of TBTV, I threw in a detail that the ship Galen ends up on for his first assignment is captained by Harry Kim.
...
A piece of feedback Captain Harry Kim of the USS Jemison had received on more than one evaluation during his tenure as first officer of the USS Sonoma was that he was prone to micromanaging. He’d been trying to curb this tendency on the Jemison, taking a step back and trusting his department heads to pick and manage their own personnel, and not going out of his way to introduce himself to every new ensign assigned to his vessel on their first day, unless circumstances warranted it.
He was regretting that policy a bit now, though. No young ensign, fresh out of the academy, would consider this an ideal topic for a first conversation with their new captain. Ensign Galen Bashir-Garak, a xenobiologist of mixed Cardassian and Romulan descent, sat ramrod straight in his chair, a faint green blush spreading across his cheeks. (Harry chided himself for expecting either performative Cardassian  gregariousness or Romulan inscrutability.)
“At ease, Ensign. You’re not in any trouble,” said Harry. “I just had a conversation with your father.”
“Oh God,” said Galen, clearly mortified. “Which one?”
“Dr. Bashir.”
“Well, I suppose it could have been worse,” said Galen, looking marginally—but only marginally—relieved.
“Why? What’s your other father like?”
“Do you know anything about Cardassian politics?”
“I know enough.”
“My other father is the Minister of Culture.”
Comprehension dawned. “Minister Garak? Your father is Elim Garak?”
“Yeah.”
“I guess it could have been worse.” Harry grinned to show that he was joking. Well, mostly joking, anyway. He’d met Minister Garak once at some official function or other on Cardassia Prime a few years ago. He’d found the man’s manner perfectly amiable, ingratiating, and unfailingly polite, but his smile was like the edge of razor, and made the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end.
“People tend to read covert threats into anything he says.”
“Are there any?”
“Not really,” said Galen, though he didn’t seem entirely convinced. “Though he doesn’t do much to dissuade people from making those assumptions. I think he enjoys it. As far as I know the worst he does to anyone these days is bury them in paperwork.”
“That sounds like a serious threat to me.”
“He did once claim that Cardassian legalese was constructed by the Obsidian Order as a form of torture, but I think he was joking,” said Galen. “So what did Dad want?”
“Reading between the lines, I’d say he wanted to assess his son’s new commanding officer, to make sure he’s in good hands.”
Galen groaned. “I am sorry about this, sir. He was in Starfleet—he really should know better. My parents can be a bit…”
“Overprotective?”
“I wouldn’t go that far. But they can be a little… over-involved, sometimes.”
“Are you an only child, Ensign?”
“Yes.”
“So am I. The day I joined the Voyager crew, my mother called Captain Janeway to ask if she had time to send me my clarinet.”
“Ah, that’s very…”
“Very,” agreed Harry. “You can’t control your parents, so try not to get too embarrassed by them.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Should I be expecting a call from Minister Garak?”
“I don’t think so. He’s not usually that… straightforward. But I’m pretty sure that he wouldn’t bug a Federation starship.”
“Wouldn’t or couldn’t?”
Galen shrugged. “He’d never admit it either way.”
Harry decided that it wouldn’t hurt to have Security run a level 4 diagnostic, just in case.
...
Note: If you recognize the joke about Cardassian legalese being a form of torture, that’s because I recycled it in A Bag Full of God. But it originated here.

Rereading the chapter in RB where Adam confronts Whelk and Neeve in Cabeswater is such an interesting thing.
1. When Adam says, "Why Noah? Why not someone horrible", it shows how much he understands both of them. All three of them want to awaken the ley line, and murder's not off the table for any of them.
2. Whelk points out to Neeve that if his murder is justice for Noah's death, by rights Neeve should eventually die on the ley line for his death. This is something Neeve ignores, but eventually does happen to her in TRK. This means that from Cabeswater's POV, a human life is a human life, and the distinction Adam made between "good" and "horrible" humans is irrelevant. Possibly because sacrificing another human is impossible because you can only truly sacrifice something that is legitimately yours. Unless the person sacrifices themselves willingly, its just murder.
3. Also, intentions must count. In the end, it was Cabeswater that killed Whelk, but Neeve still dies in Cabeswater. Probably because she set about to perform premeditated murder on Whelk.
4. Also, Neeve tells Whelk that the sacrifice must be something that means something to the person performing the sacrifice. That's why sacrificing Noah did have some effect: Noah's murder was just that, a murder. But Whelk did sacrifice a friendship. Which is sad because there's no indication that Noah would have turned on Whelk just because he'd lost his money or his family was disgraced. And Whelk valued the friendship as is shown by his grief seven years later.
5. But Neeve says she is sacrificing her innocence, which is very important to her, even though Whelk himself is not. And yet this sounds a bit disingenuous. Being so ready to commit premeditated murder as Neeve, does not sound like she really values her innocence all that much. So how much of a sacrifice was it really?
6. Adam, who has overheard much of this conversation, probably thinks both Whelk and Neeve are horrible. Adam's priority is stopping both of them from waking the ley line. As he says, everything else ("disabling Whelk, saving Neeve, avenging Noah") was negotiable. Because he wants to be the one to wake the ley line.
7. And yet, murdering either Whelk or Neeve is something Adam would be willing to consider since they're both "horrible", if it would help him wake the ley line. But it won't. He's learned from their conversation that a worthy sacrifice must be both something you value and something that is legitimately yours to give.
8. So Adam sacrifices his personal control to Cabeswater, by becoming Cabeswater's eyes and hands, and awakens the ley line. The entire book had established that personal control is very important to Adam, and is also the only valuable thing he possessed. It also didn't compromise his innocence or intentions in a way that would compromise his life later, although it did give him access to power he sorely wanted. A worthy sacrifice indeed.
9. In conclusion, Adam succeeded in waking the ley line instead of Neeve or Whelk, not because he's necessarily a better person, but because he is better at following directions and reading the fine print than either Whelk or Neeve. It must be all those Aglionby assignments giving him practice. The dude's cold, man.

I figured that, since I've said so many things about Cimarra and Aymeric, it's only fair to give a bit of a background to their relationship. Afterall, it'll be a while before we get to this point in the fanfic, definite slowburn that it is. 😅🤣 I promise to not give out any important spoilers though. Hehehe...
Ahem. Where to begin? Well, Aymeric falls in love first, while it takes Cimarra longer to fall and realize it. She's hesitant to, based off of past experience and witnessing the way her village was. But Aymeric is patient and unwavering in his pursuit, slowly wooing her while showing his determination to commit to her. Cimarra eventually falls, but doesn't realize it until she finds that the rage which arises for his sake is of the same level as for those she considers family. It then takes her a bit to come to terms with it and finally admit that she returns his feelings.
Cimarra desires to have a lover who will stay, not leave. She wants the long-term, not just for a moment or a night. It stems from how Viera males come only when needing to mate, then leave again. So, she has a slight distrust, subconsciously believing that anyone she tries to get involved with will just leave. Looking after Hadrian, she simply uses the excuse that she "doesn't have time" when they ask why she's still alone. Her protectiveness of Hadrian also makes her very selective.
Not only does she not want a man who won't stay, but she's afraid of it happening, and so either doesn't let it reach the relationship point or leaves first. Often times, she doesn't let it start at all. And so, when Aymeric approaches her with sincere and genuine intentions, she isn't quite sure of how to handle it, afraid of it coming to nothing anyway.
Phew... that was a lot... and a bit heavy... Hmm... How about a future snippet from A Warrior's Saga to lighten the mood? Let's say... Cimarra and Aymeric's first meeting? 😏 I'll hide it for those who don't want spoilers, but for those who do read it, enjoy! 🥰
(Oh, some may ask when Cimarra falls for Aymeric. And to that I say...
...Hehehehehehehehe.)
"Cimarra turned at the sound of a door opening. The first thing she saw was a pair of striking blue eyes. When they met with hers, she found herself surprised at her own thoughts.
He’s got honest eyes…
It took her a moment to be able to look away and take in the rest of this new arrival. A tall Elezen, he had short black hair with a bit of wave that framed his face. Her gaze caught on the single blue crystal earring hanging from his left ear before moving on to take in his armor, adorned with gold plating and accents, interwoven with black cloth and a sapphire blue robe.
She quite liked the ensemble, though she oddly found herself following the lines of blue all the way back up to his eyes.
The pondering of why could wait until later though.
Haurchefant watched Cimarra with great interest, noting how her eyes hadn’t left Aymeric since he’d walked in.
“Commander Leveilleur. It is both an honor and pleasure to meet you,” he greeted Alphinaud. Then his gaze flicked back to Cimarra before centering on Alphinaud. “I am Aymeric, lord commander of the Temple Knights.”
“Alphinaud Leveilleur, at your service,” Alphinaud said with a smile. “Your reputation precedes you, Ser Aymeric. I think we will find that we have much in common.”
Aymeric gave a nod. Finally, he was able to have a legitimate reason for his eyes to linger on the one who’d caught his attention since he’d entered the room. Golden hair shimmering with silver flowed over her shoulders, partially pulled back and decorated with three white flowers. But some strands still drifted around to frame her face and enchanting blue eyes.
So absorbed in her was he that Aymeric failed to notice Haurchefant’s amused grin off to the side.
“Speaking of reputations,” he said upon finding his voice, “yours towers over us all. Does it not?” It was not hard for him to see why. Her reaction intrigued him. She did not blush, as he might have expected. Instead, one of her long leporine ears twitched while merriment faintly glittered in her eyes.
Aymeric forced himself to glance at the taciturn Temple Knight standing beside him so he wouldn’t be caught staring.
“It does indeed, Lord Commander.”
Haurchefant nodded happily in agreement.
His gaze returning to Cimarra, Aymeric chose to admit a slightly embarrassing secret to her, wondering what her reaction would be this time. “I am not too proud to admit that I have followed your activities with an interest bordering on fascination. Full glad was I to learn that you would be joining us.”
Now, this did slightly surprise Cimarra. She blinked a few times, confused by the odd feeling in her stomach. The way he looked at her so steadily, so focused, made her wary. But his soft smile and warm aura lured her in.
While Cimarra was struggling with herself in a state of confusion, Aymeric broke the silence before it could grow awkward.
“Now then, shall we begin?”"

"Excellent theory, but how did everyone at the Ministry recognized Voldemort immediately upon seeing him after his return? " I wanted to ask the same question in regards to the resurrected body of voldemort in HP5 book.
Anon's referring to this post, I think.
Three reasons I can think of.
Harry Gave a Very Extensive Interview
Not long before Voldemort's grand appearance in the ministry and the shocking reveal of his return, Harry gave a very extensive description in an interview of Voldemort.
He describes exactly what Voldemort looks like.
As much as Fudge was propelling a smear campaign, even to him and the ministry, Harry's a near saintlike figure that it's positively scandalous to smear (part of why they did it).
What I'm getting at is they read the interview too and it's the sort of horrible awful just in line with what they would think Voldemort would look like.
Voldemort look like some dude? Never. Voldemort look like a snake, sounds right for a man who made a pledge to Wizard Satan.
Even for Deniers, There'd Been a Lot of Build Up to This
Harry and Dumbledore, for a year, have been shouting that Voldemort has returned. A boy died and either uh Harry Potter did it at the age of fourteen or something else happened to him. The ministry never comes up with a good explanation for what else happened but instead doubles down on "this is not happening"
Even though Fudge seems to, desperately, believe his own rhetoric there's a very strong thread that Voldemort has returned.
As a result, when they see the Death Eaters raiding the Ministry, in full form, including the likes of Bellatrix (who conveniently just somehow escaped from prison), Lucius Malfoy (who was supposed to be redeemed), and the old gang like nothing's ever happened then see a snake man battling Dumbledore.
Even their first thought is going to be: oh my god, it's Voldemort. It'd be more natural to conclude it's Voldemort (especially with Harry's interview see above) than to even conclude that Harry Potter, Dumbledore, and a bunch of others broke into the ministry themselves, with Bellatrix Lestrange, to stage this very dramatic fist fight to make it appear Voldemort returned!
The Death Eaters All Show Up
The Death Eaters, fucking all of them, are right there. They're right there, duking it out with a bunch of children and random people + some aurors, and the man they're all looking to looks like that.
It's obvious who's supposed to be Voldemort here.
Bonus Point: It Really I Think Would Throw People for a Loop if You-Know-Who Didn't Look Like a Snake
This man has risen from the dead after a decade. He's such a figure of terror, fifteen years after the fact they're terrified to speak his title. Years after his death, the Wizarding World is still shaken.
He's a figure of mystery, terror, who has dabbled in the dark arts beyond what any known person they can think of has.
If they see anyone who looks like a snake, or a pile of goo, or a sludge monster: of course that's Voldemort.
Why would a man like that ever, remotely, look like a person? It'd be an almost instant recognition thing to see this snake man and think, "VOLDEMORT!"
Caveat Harry's Occasional Flashbacks
Harry had his dementor flashback to his mother's death, before year four when Voldemort was resurrected, when Voldemort's voice at least was very high pitched (implying the man was in full snake form).
I submit that we cannot accept dementor produced night terrors as evidence as, well, they're meant to be as terrifying to the imagination as possible: not necessarily Harry's one-year-old legitimate memory.

I watched Michael Knowles video on Hazbin Hotel so you don't have to.
I have sectioned off this post so you can just read the funny bits (in bold), there's a warning in the second paragraph, and some introductions to this in the beginning. I can't put subway surfer gameplay next to my blog but I hope this will do. I was shared a funny video about a highly religious YouTuber named Michael Knowles, which by the way no witch hunting it doesn't accomplish anything, and I found the video hilarious but I will give some warnings.
Tumblr media
His content can be incredibly offensive. He's proud of this but despite having nearly 2 million subscribers his last videos, which he posted in the past 24 hours, all have under 60k views one of which only has 11k. Despite the whole point of being a content creator is to be likeable and make content people like I'm sure he'll complain about cancel culture being the reason he's failing any day now. That's what people like him say to justify people not liking them. I'm also making this post because, even if you're not worried about certain triggers, this dude will not get out of my recommendations. I'm legitimately considering getting a new Google account. He is completely unironic although it wasn't until I watched a couple other videos to know this. I'm not making the typical "haha I thought this was satire it's so bad" joke I mean I genuinely thought in all honesty he was satirical. His whole personality is about how he thinks he's right about everything. The first line in his YouTube bio is "Bask in the simple joys of being right". That and about leftists yada yada. He doesn't have beliefs of his own, he's just an echo. He looks and sounds like a discount Ben Shapiro and even I think that's too mean against Ben Shapiro. He has a cup with "leftists tears" on his desk. To make your whole personality about how you hate everything must be miserable. Extremely, miserable. The amount of effort this dude spends trying to claim his mentality doesn't make him miserable is incredibly telling and the cognitive dissonance to dedicate a channel to things that offend you and then to claim you do it because others get offended so easily is incredible, but back to the main subject. The video actually starts of interesting. Hazbin Hotel has inspirations from various myths and legends and this person knows a lot about them and shares some light on where Vivziepop probably got some of the plot points from (e.g. How Lilith is portrayed in Judaism). It is all down hill from here though. This is me trying to be, no pun intended, open minded and a devil's advocate.
Despite the show being rated 18+ he claims it is for children and then after he's made up in his head it's specifically made for children he gets angry because of that. He talks a bit about "hook up culture" and does not seem to understand that two people hooking up can be beneficial for both people involved. That sex between two people can be an equal exchange for them. I feel so sorry for his wife. He also goes into how demons can't love but Hazbin Hotel of course does a great job at questioning this subject. If Hell is forever it doesn't make sense. Do you humans lose free will the moment they enter heaven? They're immortal at this point eventually they'll sin so would they not go to hell or is it inevitable even if you make it into heaven you're eventually damned for eternity? Can angels do whatever an remain in the sky? In the bible Lucifer shows there's a limit to what you can do so it is possible. However, Michael Knowles usually only tackles dilemmas he has an answer to and even then they're not great answers. He talks about how Eve was considered an equal to Adam in the bible but then goes into how Eve completely submits to Adam which would not be equal. Do keep in mind he watches the opening season to episode one and that is it. The rest of the show could expose him to a few too many beliefs that he doesn't share and we can't have that. He goes into how the right is riled up, radicalism, and satanism. This was a roller coaster the first time I watched it because the first minute or two I'm like "Oh cool it's kind of educational" and then the rest I'm like "Is this some sort of dry humor I'm not picking up?". "Leftism from the beginning has been a rebellion against God".

“Decide” for the wip ask thing!
Better late then never, so I'm finally getting to this now, thanks for sending this my way! As it happens, that word pops up in a lot of my WIPs, so brace yourself with a fuckton of snippets under the cut!
1)
(My most recent WIP and boy, is it a silly one. It's my flimsy excuse to write Fuckboy DG hitting on various members of the rosters, and striking out each time)
As he approaches her, Daniel tries to figure out what his opening line should be.
Hey, what's up, mommy? Your baby boy has arrived…
He’s one hundred percent sure that would work, obviously. But he decides to take a different approach.
2)
‘’You sure?’’
Hook’s back to squinting again. ‘’Why wouldn’t I be?’’
Orange decides to test his theory. ‘’I saw what’s going on with you and Brian.’’
Hook’s calm, I don’t give a shit demeanor breaks slightly. It’s only for a brief second, but Orange spots the glint in his eyes, the slight pursing of his lips, the tightening of his body language. He was right on the money.
‘’Yeah, it’s…whatever,’’ Hook says, trying to play it cool.
3)
‘’What is this?’’ he asks.
Hook wonders if that’s a trick question. His mind’s coming up blank though so he decides to answer literally. ‘’Uh. The sink?’’
‘’Oh, good, you know what that is,’’ Orange says. ‘’So, are you aware that most people use these things to clean dishes? Generally, after they’ve eaten and they’re all dirty, human beings will then wash them so that they can be used again. What a concept! Would you like to give it a try sometime?’’
(Sassy Bitch OC strikes again)
4)
‘’Bros before hoes,’’ Zay said, firm.
Daniel rolled his eyes. ‘’What, are we in high school?’’
‘’Nah, ‘cause you never had hoes in high school,’’ Zay grinned afterwards, earning himself a glare from Daniel.
Daniel decided not to correct Isiah and instead he looked back in Julia’s direction. God, she was so fucking hot. He had to have her - he just had to.
(I'm sure nothing bad could come of this. Nope, I'm sure nothing bad happens to Daniel in this fic, nothing whatsoever 🙂🙂🙂)
5)
(Disclaimer - Hook is high as a kite in this fic. Orange is not. Oh, the humanity...)
Orange decides to take a different approach. ‘’You know what would be really fun?’’
Hook legitimately gasps. ‘’What?!’’ he asks, looking up at him with those wide red eyes.
‘’If we went to bed. Right now.’’
Hook giggles. ‘’We are in bed…’’
‘’Then let’s get some sleep, huh?’’
Hook grins. ‘’Don’t wanna.’’
6)
Orange’s head slowly turns, his first movement since Hook dropped the bomb on him. Fear shoots ice through Hook’s veins. But when he meets his eyes, he doesn’t look mad. His face is weirdly neutral. But then the cracks start to show. A slight crease in his forehead. A grim, sad little glint in his eye. He opens his mouth but the only sound that comes out is a terse exhale. His mouth opens and closes a couple more times, as though he can’t decide what to say.
Hook braces himself for whatever’s about to happen.
(Uh oh, did Hook do something baaaaaaaad? Something he regrets? Something that would make his boyfriend upset?🙂🙂🙂)
7)
Eventually, Daniel decided he’d done enough, laid the groundwork as best as he could. So the next time he and Julia found themselves alone, he just straight up asked her if she wanted to head back to his hotel room later, after the show.
He didn’t know what he was expecting. But what Julia said in response - the request she made - left him completely stunned.
(This is, in fact, a different fic from the other Daniel/Julia snippet. But arguably both ideas are equally awful and embarrassing on my part 😬)

July 24th - Dracula 2023
Captain’s Log of the Demeter
I’ve heard that when you’re having or about to have a heart attack or something along those lines, you gain a sense of inevitable doom. I think I understand that feeling now.
We’re heading into the bay of Biscay with a major storm ahead, and another of the men disappeared. Needless to say, the others are understandably terrified. The mate is angry again – I can’t fathom why he gets angry when the men are nervous for very legitimate reasons. I’m worried there will be some violence between them. Can’t afford that when disappearances are happening.
I’ll have to keep an eye out.
The Diary of Mina Murray
Today Lucy brought us up to one of her favorite spots in Whitby and we got a chance to see more of the town. It’s very picturesque, with red-roofed buildings piled up along banks of the River Esk that runs through the town. The mouth of the river extends toward into long concrete constructions like pincers with lighthouses on either side in the middle. Most of the town is on one side of the river, alongside some beautiful beachfront that it will be fun to go down to this summer. On the other side are a few rows up houses, and then the area clears into a large green clearing, at the center of which is a beautiful ruin of an old abbey.
The spot in question is around the old abbey, and the day was perfect for going up there – bright and stunningly blue as can be imagined. Jonathan seemed hesitant as we approached the abbey from a distance, and as we crested the hill at the top of the stairs up to it, but I suppose that shouldn’t be two surprising for a variety of reasons. We paused for a little while at the top of the hill, as the lingering anemia left him more tired than usual, but then we continued on.
The old abbey is filled with beautiful, bright green grass, and the old architecture is remarkably intact – some of the windows even still have their mullions and glass. Jonathan took pictures as we went up, quite taken by the ruin’s beauty now that he was up here. He’s always loved beautiful landscapes, and it was a comfort to see him smile again. Lucy was excited to play tour guide, showing us all around and talking about the history of the abbey like a seasoned docent.
Not too far away is another active church, but it’s also very old. There’s a graveyard attached filled with very old graves. Walkways cross cross the grounds, and there are a lot of little stone benches scattered around. Lucy’s favorite is one toward the end of the graveyard, where you can see over the whole Esk River valley and across the headland, though Jonathan remained back in the shade, seeming content to gave out over the graveyard and wander the grounds a little bit.
I’ve heard stories here, about a white woman that appears in one of the church windows, and bells that sound when a ship is lost at sea. There were a few people about, and I ended up asking an older woman nearby. She looked to be in her mid-80s, maybe older, and had pale blue eyes that always seemed to be smiling.
She said, “Well… I’ve never seen the white woman in my time. I swear I’ve heard the bell at night, though. Now, my great grandad, he would have told you that it was all a bunch of hooey. Didn’t believe a thing he couldn’t hold in his two hands.” She chuckled at that. “Tourists like hearing about it, and I think it would be a bit fun if it were true, so I don’t think it’s a bad thing to indulge in such stories. I like telling them to my grandchildren.”
She told me a few stories of the possible origin of the white woman – supposedly a woman was built into the walls, a woman who died of sadness in the abbey after her husband didn’t return home, who still looks out to sea for him… It was all quite interesting. Lucy was quite rapt with attention as well. Even Jonathan was listening from a little way away, and joined us after she bade us goodbye and headed down the steps.
After she left, he sat down with Lucy and I and said, surprising both of us, “… I hope the story of the white woman is just a story.”
Lucy tilted her head. “Oh? I thought the idea of the second story rather romantic…”
He smiled a little at that. “Yes… But I wouldn’t want anyone to be tormented like that, trapped forever beyond death.” He put a hand on one of the tombstones as if it was the shoulder of a friend. “This is a beautiful place to rest. I’d like to hope everyone here is at peace.”
Lucy looked thoughtful at that, and we stayed up there and enjoyed the breeze for a while until sunset, returning once it was getting dim.
Apparently we're going wedding stuff shopping tomorrow, so we'll need rest.

overthinking 3 Hopes Rodrigue expeditions
or: they made this old man extremely cute for no apparent reason and I just wanted to thank whoever did this
In FE 3 Hopes, you can take every playable character on dates expeditions. If you successfully have a perfect conversation with them in the first part of the date, you'll unlock "free observation mode". This is where you get to stare at them up close and personal from different camera angles like a weirdo, while they blush and sound fluster-- oh, wait, that's actually just Rodrigue
Tumblr media
the majority of the cast does not do this
Anyway, every character has 3 unique lines they'll say during free observation: one for looking at them head-on, one for looking at them from above, and one for looking at them from below. Before you reach A-rank with him, Rodrigue's 3 lines are:
Front: "The years have begun to take their toll on me. Every time I look in the mirror, the man staring back grows less and less familiar."
Above: "Hm? What is it? You'll make an old man blush if you keep staring like that."
Below: "Now that I've relinquished my title, perhaps it's time I pass my cloak down to Felix as well."
But as hinted at before, these 3 lines (and a few of the other lines around expeditions in general) will change after you've reached A-rank support with the character.
The change in these lines usually shows how a character's relationship with you/Shez has grown closer after A-rank. Some characters, like Felix, get friendlier and smile instead of scowling. Others like Dedue seem more comfortable or go "I don't mind being stared at if it's you". And others hint towards more physical intimacy (no, not in the way you were thinking, like how Seteth asks you to trim his hair for him). But there's a lot you could infer about how characters see Shez after they get closer if you were some sort of obsessive nerd like I am
Anyway, Rodrigue's A-rank lines are:
Front: "Felix is a rather handsome young man, don't you think? I suppose the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Hahaha!"
Above: "I care little for my appearance when I'm not on duty, but rest assured, I dress properly when out in public."
Below: "Hm? Is my cloak soiled in some way? Pity, I've only just washed it."
Tumblr media
are you flirting with me or trying to set me up with your son
What can we infer about these lines? They're not that dramatically different, and it's not like you can even get more cute than Rodrigue's flustered expression before A-rank. What I want to note, though, is the overall tone of what he says to you before and after A-rank.
Before A-rank:
All of Rodrigue's lines are in some way about being older and past his prime.
He looks sad in 2/3 lines, both when mentioning not recognizing himself in the mirror, and when musing about passing his cloak down to Felix.
He blushes seemingly out of surprise that you would stare at an old man like him.
After A-rank, however:
All of Rodrigue's lines focus more on taking pride in his appearance than on lamenting his age.
He smiles in 2/3 lines and is comfortable joking about himself, whether it's obliquely calling himself handsome (via Felix) or reassuring Shez that no he definitely looks nice for public appearances honest.
He sounds legitimately disappointed that he managed to dirty his cloak so soon after washing it, which is both unexpectedly vain for a man like Rodrigue AND very relatable.
Basically, before you get close to him, Rodrigue sounds rather self-deprecating about himself - about his age, about his appearance, and about deflecting your attention because he can't imagine why you would pay attention to him. But after you get closer, he starts acting more comfortable with himself around you. He actually acknowledges he might be handsome and even gets a little vain about his dress, though he's quick to reassure you that no he's not that vain. So Rodrigue both becomes more confident about his own appearance and seems to care more for your opinion, because he wants you to think better of him.
conclusion: Rodrigue Achille Fraldarius is a shoujo manga teenage girl MC in a 46-year-old man's body and I am here for it
