Question, can I get headcannon of mallek x reader where the reader is an artist? somehow was able to accept commissions while on Alternia? AUGRHGAA TYYY!!!! I'm glad you like the art, writing, and headcanons! I've also definitely had the thoughts of Mallek being with an s/o who works a lot on computers for digital art stuff, mainly cause it sounds peaceful af.

Okay, so! Artist is a pretty loose term that could apply to a lot of things, but you specify them drawing here, so I'll go over Mallek x reader, both of them being either a traditional artist or a digital artist.

Traditional Artist:

🎨Starting with the traditional artist! Dunno if any of you consider yourselves to be fairly clean but either way if you were to stay over at his hive a lot and for convenience's sake, leave some of your art stuff at his place..it only adds to the chaos that his hive, "damn girl you live like this?" Idk! I just imagine all sorts of physical stuff traditional artist's use. Different types of paint and paintbrushes, charcoal, watercolors, colored pencils, paper, canvases, etc. Your art stuff adds a whole other thing to look at in his hive and honestly? He's here for it. He thinks art is cool. I mean..he can do tattoos, so of course he'd have some appreciation for a s/o who does artsy stuff. He also like those moments where he finds you just covered in your art supplies. Charcoal all over your arms and even smudged on your face for when you couldn't fight a itch and scratched at it, your hands and fingers smudged with paint or oil pastels...he just finds it incredibly charming.

🎨Oh also on the subject of paint uhh. May or may not be something you're comfortable with using considering that paint on Alternia is made from the blood of trolls. Depends whether or not you can get over that and just pretend it isn't to cope lmao. If you can just. Don't ask Amisia and Chahut about how getting the supplies for your paint went!

🎨Mallek would find it incredibly relaxing to listen to while he's fucking around with his husktops and many monitors. Normally he's one to either sit in quiet with nothing to play or maybe he'll have his playlist quietly playing whatever music or other things to listen to while he works on projects or contact people. Not to say it isn't still quiet while you both do your own things, but that's just the thing. It's quiet, not silent. Mallek finds he works the best when he knows that there's life going on around him. The sounds of his hands rapidly typing on his keyboard, the whirring of his husktop, sometimes you can hear him speak to someone that he's calling. You just further add on with your sounds of living, the sound of pencil sketching onto paper or canvas, the louder or softer sounds of you using oil pastels or charcoal, papers being moved, the adjusting of a canvas. It's all very comfortable to you both.

🎨You're each other's background sounds.

Digital Artist:

🖋️Being a digital artist is also so cool to Mallek, why wouldn't it be? It's tech shit! He can also help you try and traverse the different Alternian art programs. It's pretty new to him too since all he usually uses is the Alternian equivalent to Microsoft paint..and it's not super serious, just doodles, sketches, and shitposts stuff to destress. You got yourself a husktop, Amisia was jumping at the chance to help you look for digital art supplies (such as a tablet and stuff), and Mallek helped you get a hold of art programs for you to try out and decide what you like to use as your primary programs.

🖋️They're pretty much the same as Earth art programs in terms of it's functions. Though of course their interfaces can be different from program to program. Not everything works as it does on Earth? Certain shortcuts or tool locations are moved around or changed but it's pretty easy to figure out if you're experienced in digital art. And if you're stuck or can't figure something out your cool tech savvy matesprit can help you out. Mallek has his moments where he takes a break from what he's working on briefly to watch you draw...he always has to stifle a laugh when he sees you're absolutely struggling over there to do line art, having to undo do your stroke like 50 times before you get it. Like the previous one? He thinks it's cute and charming.

🖋️While you don't add a lot of new things to look at it in his hive, as you're working with more tech, it's still just as nice to listen to in the background he thinks. He can hear your fingers type out messages to friends or clients you're working with, the sound of your pen stroking against the tablet face, your mouse clicking here and then. There may not be as many sounds, but he finds it just as comforting, he likes to listen to the life around him after all.

Commissions:

As for the commission portion, thought it would be fun to get into this separately after talking about the respective art types! Being commissioned as an alien on the planet is certainly. Interesting. Which can be taken positively or otherwise.

Being an alien is your selling point to a lot of trolls online. It's where you got a huge chunk of your followers! Sure, they're very split on genuinely believing you are a real alien and those who think this is some kind of roleplay account or something but follow out of interest. Your commissions gather more interest from those who want a drawing from an alien! Real or not. Lots of odd are fun interactions.

For a traditional artist you could go the route of just, scanning your picture and posting it onto your socials and tag the trolls (or post it to the troll client privately). If you offer a shipement of the physical original drawing Mallek can help you out with getting a drone to drop it off for you so you don't have to go on a wild goose chase to find the troll client in this great wide troll world.

Thank you for an amazing 2023!

About metas, fics and sparkly things…

This won’t be short, but you wouldn’t expect that from me, would you? 🤣

I’ve been on Tumblr for just a bit over a year because I needed to get off my family’s back after my three decades long Sandman brain-rot got worse again due to the Netflix series. I hovered around a handful of followers for months until things exploded (I still don’t know why tbh, I think it was one particular meta that kicked things off a bit), and I somehow ended up with hundreds of followers, which might not be much to some, but it’s a lot for me.

So to all of you I’d like to say: Thank you for being here. I don’t always manage to stay on top of things because my notifs are a mess and I lose track, plus I have a rather busy life and can often only write in batches and then queue, but each of you is appreciated, even if I accidentally forget to get back to you or if we aren’t mutuals.

I’ve made such lovely connections over the last year—my interest in The Sandman definitely does not align with the main focus that shan’t be named, and I’m glad that you folks are out there. You probably know who you are.

Now to the obligatory “your posts wrapped” thing—and I’m only doing it because I need to make a point (of course I do 🤣).

News and art

My by far most successful posts have been casting/shooting news and pretty pictures (two examples are linked). And I’m grateful for all the reblogs and likes of those, but apart from curating them, they’re not really me. They’re someone else’s work.

Meta analysis

Then you have my metas, which make up the bulk of the other posts that are doing quite well (you can find all of them in my pinned post).

Even if it wasn’t my most “successful” one (what does that even mean?), this one meant the most to me:

I love writing metas, whether they cover literary concepts, psychology, music or art because I’m a permanently brain-frazzled multi-hyphenate who has to talk about everything that won’t leave her alone.

I also love when you’re sending me asks btw. For the latter, I hope they pick up again in 2024 because they really nosedived since I switched off anonymous asks (which I won’t change, soz) after some people just thought it’s good sport to be an arse about my not being here to pray at the altar of the ship. I guess we have briefly covered the ugly side of Tumblr, too, then.

Writing

But what I'm most proud of when I think of all the things I've done in 2023 is my fiction and poetry. And that's both a happy and slightly sad thing to address.

My 31 Haikus for Sandtober started as a bit of fun, but they’ve developed a life of their own, and people seemingly liked them. The post also contains a bit of my fan-art:

I still intend to turn them into a hardcover at some point, but I won’t be able to create all the artwork myself, so if you’re a fan-artist and want to know what I’m thinking of, please get in touch (I’ll still talk about this in more detail at some point though).

The other thing I’m incredibly proud of is “The Light of Stars”.

I started it as a NaNoWriMo project in 2022 (I always use NaNo to do something that is less stressful than my professional writing projects), wrote it in a bit more than a month—and then did nothing with near 80,000 words until June 2023.

And then I thought “Fuck it,” and published it on Ao3. It’s a canon x OC fic, and this is where it gets a bit sad. Because for most of us writers, these are never the posts that get most engagement (the ratio is really something like 100 : 1 — 500 for a shitpost, 5 for an average writing post).

On Ao3, it gradually picked up because I published chapter after chapter, and I think I can say that it’s done fairly well over there in terms of engagement for an OC fic, and above all how people engage with it. Because it’s a bit deeper despite being romance, it deals with heavy topics like grief, and I’m so glad to have touched a few people’s hearts with it, and that it was meaningful to them. So much so that you all convinced me to write a sequel.

But here’s the thing: The general engagement with writing, especially non-explicit, non-ship, non-readerY/N on Tumblr is very, very low.

Writers who write canon x OC are still struggling to be heard through the noise (it’s not just me, I’ve had many conversations about this, so I’ll just say: I’ll speak for many of us). There are basically hardly any events for us to participate in (most of us only ever do so if we shift to canon one-shots, poetry or metas. If we don’t: Again, no one cares), and fandom often actively chooses to ignore us because “all OCs are self-inserts, ew.” Which is patently not true, and I could go on a long rant now why many canon x canon fics are very obvious self-inserts, which I won’t.

But even if all OCs were self-inserts, even if all characters were—so what? All writing is to a degree based on self-insertion because it comes from our brains—it’s not a bad thing. But apparently, it becomes a bad thing if the character is an OC, heaven knows why.

So if I had one wish (I’m allowed one, right?) for 2024, it would be that people engage more with OC fics and include them more in community events. That fandom, which prides itself in community, includes writers who don’t write for (the main) ship/s a bit more, especially if they don’t write smut (which I personally even do professionally, but I don’t want to have to do it in fanfic just to get engagement). I’m not holding my breath because I know that’s not where fandom’s oft single-minded focus lies, but a girl can dream, right?

And with that, I want to get to my proudest accomplishments of them all:

I uhhhhhhhh,,,,,,,

,,,,,would like to issue a formal apology about these last several months. By which I mean, my complete and utter radio silence (aside from the occasional shitpost).

Life has been hectic! In great ways, in wonderful ways, and,,,,in some not so good ways, too.

In June, my baby sister was born! She's amazing and incredible, and she's so so cute! I've never wanted kids of my own (neither adopted or biological) but I love taking care of kids. I love teaching them, and playing with them, and I love seeing what kinds of wacky shit they do.

I've been really involved with helping my parents with my sister, and such a duty has taken up a lot of my time. My whole world has basically been revolving around this tiny little human, and around the rest of my family.

And as such, I started neglecting my desire to write. At least in the beginning.

In April of 2023, something happened. I don't really know what, but I can pinpoint the exact day that my mood shifted. Nothing overly concerning, but a moment in time to be slightly suspicious of: a feeling I haven't felt in many years.

Depression.

Not a crisis or anything like that, but the beginning of what could become a months-long episode, if I wasn't careful. I've dealt with this kind of thing for nearly twenty years now, which means I know my own signs. I know not to ignore those seemingly-small actions and thoughts, because they can absolutely lead to something bigger.

So for a little while, I tried to really focus on writing - something I love. Something that I'm passionate about. I tried to focus on art, and on painting, and on music. But it slowly became harder and harder. My thoughts grew muddled and slow, new ideas weren't forming, no matter how hard I tried. Even when trying to find different subjects, it was the same.

My creativity had just. Stopped.

So I set it all down for a bit. Slowed down my progress, and gave myself permission to rest and recuperate and take care of myself. I was hoping that I had just 'sprained my brain', and that soon I'd be back on my dramatic nonsense, typing away and having fun.

But that...didn't happen.

And my mood kept sinking lower and lower. No matter how I kept up my self care routines, no matter how much I tried to do the things I know that I enjoy.

Just.

Grey.

So I talked to my parents. I set up an appointment with my doctor. I got in to see my therapist again. I feel like I'm failing, for not being able to keep up with a community I love. I know that I'm not, deep down, but the anxiety is still there, on the surface.

I'm sad that I'm not able to write anything right now. I'm sad that I'm not able to create art. I'm sad that I can't sit down and read, and enjoy, and scream about all sorts of beautiful pieces that get posted. I'm sad that i'm not able to keep up with the friends I've made here.

Having a supportive household has been an incredible benefit for me, it always has. But especially now, when my own brain is kicking me in the ass for reasons I can't even figure out.

I'm so grateful to have a tiny human to focus on, during a time when I'm not able to do much else. All these people bring light and happiness and peace to my life, and I don't know where I'd be without them.

All this being said, I hope you guys understand! I'm not going away any time soon: I'm still here. Lurking. And I absolutely plan on coming back to writing, eventually. That's not something I'd ever give up. Ever.

But I am taking a break, for my own benefit. We gotta take care of ourselves, the same way we desire to take care of others!

So instead of 'goodbye', I'll say this instead: I'll see you guys in a while!

Alright so I've been introduced to and have recently finished watching the Monument Mythos youtube series which is absolutely great and I recommend it to anyone who may be a fan of weird multiverse shit, body horror probably and horror that just barely also counts as shitposting, (however if I remember correctly the series makes use of flashing lights and shakey screens with no trigger warning so watch at your own risk) but I have a lore question (+ theory?) for those who have seen the season 3 finale so spoilers below cut

So at the end we see the Mr Manticore constellation and it's made of the 'good people' of the series ; the face bit has a star for every man that formed the Angel, there are three that represent Thomas, Nina and Freedom, and the last star is for Everett Arnoldson.

Is this because there's an extra star commemorating the Angel itself post death ray? Kinda how Freedom gets her own star, tho this could be because the statues all seem to have their own mind and therefore her sentience isn't a result of Thomas and Nina being put inside of her a la fnaf and other indie horrors.

(Sidenote writing this at night and having to see that constellation over the black screen with no other music or anything only showed me how scary that face bit is like my god I really hate looking at it like tbis for some reason)

However I got curious and counted the stars that represent the men. The Angel is formed of 17 unknown soldiers, but I counted 18 stars.

Anyway I just wanted to throw this out and include myself in the community a little bit. Still haven't watched the Ningen videos yet so maybe they'll have an answer. Can't wait for season 4!

Does the Angel really count as a seperate entity from the men like Freedom is from Thomas and Nina? Because it doesn't seem to be the case since when they talk to Cthnaut A, their voice is an amalgamation of voices.

Or maybe the 18th star represents Cthnaut A himself, leaving a small reminder of himself before he leaves this unisverse?

Or maybe it's just a small mistake that I'm looking into way too hard because I want to be involved in finding some bit of lore in one of the many lore based series' that I love and cherish.

I do think that as a teenager he would just go along with what his friends say because he is a sweet boy that just wants to fit in

Doesn’t wanna bully anyone at all just wants to be happy

Is popular but also not the most popular because he’s a golden retriever and isn’t really chasing popularity

Like yeah he wants to fit in but that doesn’t mean he cares about popularity really he just wants to be liked he doesn’t really care if he’s known or not

Kyle is really just a background character and we don’t really see him unless it’s like specific scenes with Max or like the aftermath.

So we don’t really know a lot other than he never really wanted to bully people but wanted to fit in with Max even to the point to where he doesn’t date anyone max tells him he can’t.

I do think that Sam would choose his friends over a significant other unless he actually genuinely loved them so I think he kinda fits this jock that’s not really mean but isn’t really helpful vibe

I would’ve chosen Ethan for Sam but Sam isn’t really a bad boy on the outside if I’m being honest.

Shane

Paul Matthews (The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals)

Mostly because I think it would be funny if he screamed at the top of his lungs for coffee

Also I think he wouldn’t enjoy watching a musical he hates the fact that everyone in them are either so happy or that they’re singing every five seconds

Would also be horrified at “What do you want Paul”

I would’ve probably chosen Paul for Harvey because of his love for coffee but I don’t think he would be this unhappy about everything

Imagine trying to get him to sign ANYTHING while he’s walking to Joja he will not

Paul is much nicer than Shane at first glance but at the same time I feel like Shane could embody him well.

Like Shane can be Paul but Paul could never be Shane.

Max Jägerman (Nerdy Prudes Must Die)

Again I don’t really see him as a bully

But I do think he could’ve been one in high school

Like Sam I think Alex just wants to fit in and be cool (especially because of his life) so as a teenager I could see him being an absolute asshole as a teen

Maybe not to Max’s level but like out of everyone I think he fits Max the most

In the whole star quarterback and liked by the cool pretty girls.

But like when the main characters try to bully him he literally is like “this is the nicest thing anyone has done for me”

Like yeah he’s a bully and we can see that and they didn’t really flesh out that plot line it seemed like Max didn’t really have people in his life that genuinely cared about him to set anything up for him or do things for him other than be yes men which isn’t really caring at all

I feel like Alex would be similar in that he doesn’t really have friends (Haley doesn’t really count for me because I feel like she’s using him as means to an end. As if she sees him as who she’s supposed to end up with because of their looks instead of actually caring for him)

Only people who either tell him what he wants to hear without truly caring or understanding (except for his grandparents)

Alex too would be happy if someone decided to go through the trouble of making an elaborate prank for him.

Harvey

Becky Barnes(Black Friday)

Him and Maru were the most difficult for me but ultimately I settled on him being Becky

Mostly because he’s a doctor and I’m pretty sure she’s a nurse

But also because I also think Harvey is brave enough to go through an abusive relationship and come out of it still wanting to help the world

Also because I also think he would kill an abusive asshole bc he’s hot like that

I think they would have the same values like everyone matters and just because you have money or a greater status doesn’t mean you can take advantage of people or act like an asshole

I also think it would take an ancient god to make him become a man without morals

Professor Hidgens (The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals)

Both are men of the arts and it’s funny

Also writing and music are very similar/ writing a musical is literally just writing a story and adding music to it so when I say it’s similar I mean it’s SIMILAR

I could see Elliott going insane and holding people hostage like “DO YOU WANNA READ MY NEW STORY?? PLEASE READ IT AND GIVE ME FEEDBACK PLEASE!!!!”

I could literally see Elliott taking this role and killing it

Like it’s not a lot to say because I think it’s very obvious

Also they both have that air of like…..pretentiousness?

Not in a bad way at all it just like…..they seem to give off the aura of having money

I think I feel like this because it’s like they have the freedom to write and go into the arts even though Hidgens is a professor I believe

It’s just they give off the air of feeling or being better than you but not in a way that is like their doing maybe

I wanted her to be “Latte Hottie” from TGWDLM(I forgot her name for now ignore it) but she doesn’t really give those vibes when you think about it

I feel like Steph and Abigail are VERY similar

They both seem like in school they’re cool but in different ways but they both have similar vibes

I think Stephanie is more grunge or skater(forgive me I don’t know clothing genres)

And Abby is more gothic but like I think they’re v similar

Like they aren’t in charge but people know them and even if they dislike them no one is fucking with them at all

When in reality she was connected and seeing things that they wouldn’t be able to understand

I think Emily is similar or fits the vibe where she understands things in a different way than the others

And they just see it as her being weird when in reality she’s just connected to the world in a deeper way.

Even though Emily is the older sibling I think she just fits this role where she could feel what is going to happen from the beginning

I know this looks like I ship her and Seb but I don’t

BUT!!! I think Leah fits the whole “run away to escape my problems and follow my dreams” sort of thing

About Me

I go by Mundus Artis, which translates to Art of the World. My pronouns are it/she. I am what can best be described as a polymath, having dedicated my life towards becoming an expert in a wide number of topics.

I am an artist. I paint, I write, I make music, I am obsessed with decay, and soil science, I know three languages, I am a former NPR broadcast engineer, I was once an event organizer, an activist, and I love zymology and food preservation. I have an actual play werewolf the apocalypse podcast that focuses on wolf-born garou. I love nature more than anything and love recording source audio in the wilderness.

My body no longer works as it once did, and I am disabled. I spend a lot of my time in the woods. I cannot walk far, but when I get out in the deep wilderness in my vehicle I like to just think, and exist in nature. I also can be considered an academic on the topic of Werewolf: the Apocalypse. I am a Storyteller of 25 years, having played every edition of the game, read nearly every book, and have been holding space for marginalized folx at my table since the 90s.

My first exposure to World of Darkness is one where I was, as a young player, abused, bullied, and left traumatized by a Vampire LARP group so poorly managed it made the news.

I cut my teeth using that as my lesson in just how out-of-hand a game session can possibly go, and worked backwards from there to arrive where we are now. Even when I do run tables in other games, my primary vehicle of Storytelling will always be horror, enough so I developed my own methodology and English terms for horror writing.

After a lifetime of keeping the keys to my queer-inclusive horror table, I have decided to pass on the keys to the kingdom to the next generation of Storytellers, and have come out of my offline gaming world to share my expertise with younger queer horror fans.

I am a mother, both to my own (they're nonbinary, how cool is that?), and other wayward queer folx that like me, have had to sort out their identities without the support of a greater community.

I am a queer, transgender, demisexual, poly lesbian, and extremely private about it. I will however shitpost about it on my other blog. I will however happily hold space and will eat you if you dunk on other people for existing.

I'm a big fan of empiricism, in that there is a tangible, physical reality around us that can be measured and quantified. I also believe that this is an existentialist outlook, in that it's entirely on the individual to derive the meaning of existence through what empirical reality gives them. This isn't to say that there's no room for spirituality, but that one must make that space in order to have it. If you throw shit at the universe, it'll throw shit right back.

I adhere to the belief of social contract, that society functions within a community of cooperation, or at least should, where everyone is sorta trying to exist in a life that is frankly complicated, and that it's each person's duty to help eachother towards the betterment of the community. I also believe that there needs to be some kind of equalizer within a society to bring equity to those who otherwise wouldn't have it.

My belief in an existenial life bound by social contract makes me a student of virtue ethics. I am someone that tries to live by the belief that ethics and morality should act as a custodian for existence. We are a self-aware chemical reaction that is quite literally the universe looking back at itself. How fucking amazing is that? Existence is a privilege, even for all the suffering, and we should not rob others the right to also be a part of that universe looking back at itself. In that light I consider myself one with an animist perspective, viewing all things as ones with their own spirit, a shared existence.

Per the social contract, if someone stomps on that, you stomp right the fuck back. Black Lives Matter. Trans Rights Are Human Rights. They were children.

Alright so as far as introductions go, I guess I should probably make one before I get too far into this.

HERES MY ABOUT ME POST!

My name's Leonardo, and you can call me any version of that that you want (Leo, Leon, Leonard, Nardo[my favorite], either way, it's all the same to me.) My pronouns are He/Him. I am an artist, author, animator, and a DEDICATED CLAWCODE ENTHUSIST (Hence the name)

wtf is hyperpulp

What is hyperpulp? It’s thoughtful, introspective fiction that utterly rejects the self-conscious trappings of litfic in favor of everything that’s bloody, sexy, irreverent, and generally un-respectable about genre fiction, weaving together the pulp and the literary so tightly that trying to remove one would destroy the other.

Real talk though, it’s a word I came up with to explain to my old writing prof why I stuck his name on the dedication page of a Conan the Barbarian parody. Let’s not take ourselves too seriously here.

But if we assume this is a real genre, what are some other examples? First thing that springs to mind is Tamsyn Muir’s Locked Tomb, as it’s the series that taught me that you can write a story that’s both deadly serious drama and an utter shitpost, like that’s… allowed. It’s never sexually explicit but I don’t think hyperpulp needs to tick off all its own boxes. It’s a doctrine of freedom, not lawyerly fuckarsery. So long as it’s got the spirit, it’s there. Another example might be Gretchen Felker-Martin’s Manhunt, though genre-wise splatterpunk seems to have that one covered. It’s just smart, thoughtful, really good splatterpunk.

And there it is. The question that makes me not entirely comfortable with applying my own genre label to other people’s work: is there anything to hyperpulp other than, “it’s pulp, but it’s good”?

I could waffle all day about how hyperpulp is made distinctive by the balance it strikes, about its emphasis on emotion amid extreme circumstances, and how it’s possible to do that badly in a way that’s distinct from bad pulp or bad litfic. But no amount of prevaricating can parry either of the two objections I anticipate to calling someone else’s work hyperpulp. The objection I don’t respect: “ew, keep your pulp out of my serious literature.” The objection I respect deeply: “fuck off, pulp was good enough without you pretending to elevate it.”

Yeah, legit. Reminds me of that anecdote Neil Gaiman tells about some litfic shitfuck telling him, “oh no, you don’t write comics, you write graphic novels.” Going by that logic I should retire the concept of hyperpulp as a bad idea, quietly scrub it off the site and the socials before I earn a reputation as a pretentious poser.

But also no. Fuck it, I’m keeping it.

The reason boils down to the same answer given to that common strawman of queer and neurodivergent copypastas, the asshole who demands, “why do you need to keep coming up with all these stupid labels? Aren’t labels… bad?”

Because it’s good to know you’re doing your own thing right, not doing someone else’s thing wrong.

Trying to promote my own work without a simple label like hyperpulp has been a thankless slog. If I try to lean into the pulp, people wonder why everyone’s talking about their feelings. If I lean into the feelings, people wonder why everyone’s horny and covered in blood at the same time. Trying to describe my work always felt like being an underground metal critic fumbling to stuff someone’s genre-agnostic music into a box labeled, “raw melodic second wave black metal/thrashing kawaii dungeon drone with elements of crust and ska.” Death came up with a label that I used for a little while: “hyper-violent social commentary comedy smut.” I felt like that captured the spirit of it, but it was a mouthful and also not entirely accurate. BEHOLD! is plenty horny, but it’s still less than 5% porn by volume. Also, nobody’s impressed by comedy or social commentary. Anyone can do it badly, and when it’s bad it’s terrible. That leaves just the violence, which certainly gives the wrong impression.

So yeah. Nah. Hyperpulp’s the right word. Hyperpulp fantasy, to be specific. So much of the traditional publishing scene is talented people sanding away their personality and originality to fit into an easily marketed package, a thing I’ve long resented, despised, and struggled against. Hyperpulp is not just a label. It’s a blade for carving out a place for myself in a fantasy fiction market that has never been more crowded. Only time will tell if that’s a battle I can win.
