really wish my one friend would quit flirting with me. and trying to goad me into hanging out more. and assigning us fictional characters that are oh-so-coincidently either couples or with romantic tension. and then interrupting our gameplay to ask me repeatedly if I think they’re “like us” (which they rarely are…). and matching my icon on discord without asking (again, usually by insinuating a couple connection). and giving me random things I do not want and did not ask to receive (and then forcing me to take them???).

i used to be so good at writing strong, thoroughly-researched, thoroughly-edited essays.

as a kid in hs, my teacher literally came up to me, holding my 40 page essay on the intersection of the European witch hunts and capitalism/exploitation/gender roles (it was supposed to be 7 pages...whoops) and went like "this is literally a master's-degree level thesis. what are you doing?? you could literally use this as your final dissertation in a master's program, what the fuck."

NOW??? NOW?? you'd think I'd be oh so skilled. but alas. i can barely piece together two ideas. adhd skill-regression is so so real. im SOBBING

Not to be posting about UK politics again (I promise not to make a habit of it) but for those not following what's going on (can't blame you) we're currently in the middle of a leadership race for the new Prime Minister between Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak. Both candidates are desperately trying to be the most Thatcher-like, evil person to appeal to Tory members, and the newest move by Sunak is to attack the Equality Act.

And suddenly TERFs are all up in arms being like 'oh no, dont do that! You just need to target trans people, not all of us!' like... what did you fucking expect?!?!?!

You teamed up with the anti-women, anti-LGBT, anti-disabled, islamophobic, antisemitic, white supremacist party, and you're surprised when they roll back everyone's rights?

The same people who put a blanket do-not-resuscitate order on disabled people during the pandemic? The same people who have removed the right to protest after the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests? The same people who drown refugees in the Channel? You thought they had your back, just because you helped with their 'divide and conquer' strategy among LGBT people and cis and trans women?

Forgive me for showing my fangs a little here instead of being as delicate in phrasing as I usually am, but. Periodic reminder:

sweeping "humans suck, humans are evil, the world would be better off if humans disappeared/had never evolved" statements may be cathartic but they're thoroughly inaccurate (ie, the vast majority of uniquely bad effects of humans on the planet are a) extremely recent, like within the last couple centuries, b) the fault of an extremely small minority not the entire fucking species, and c) fixable)

hating being human isn't the same as hating humans. I get species dysphoria is a thing. I get that it's often hard to fit in as a nonhuman in human social groups and that can make it easy to slip into hating everyone around you. Please fight that instinct

villainizing people for traits they didn't choose, such as the species they were born into, is neither cute nor fair. No species is inherently good or bad

misanthropy is cathartic in short term vents or whatever but genuinely embracing it wholesale as a philosophy is liable to lead to you hating humans, human society, and being in a human body more and more over time and thus make your life worse by constantly reinforcing a thought pattern that makes you angry and upset

you are not immune to being part of human society (translation: just because you're nonhuman doesn't mean you're not included in statements about the effects of the human population on the world, ie "humans are killing the planet")

related, you are not better than humans for being nonhuman. looking at my fellow dragons in particular on this one. I get it, draconic pride is a thing, dragon brain probably says you're the supreme being and all else is beneath you especially anyone who annoys you. Mine does too. Please recognize that is an instinct you are supposed to FIGHT, not something that's TRUE AND THAT YOU SHOULD EMBRACE. Good fucking gods.

some nonhumans are also human (it's me, I'm some nonhumans) and you are making sweeping "humans suck, why would I ever want to be human, all humans do is kill the planet" statements in the presence of people included in those statements, which is insanely rude (and no, you don't get to "but you're different because you're nonhuman" me! you do not get to decide to ignore half of who I am because you don't like it, you do not get to decide I'm not "really" human, and also see the previous bullet point). this goes doubly if you're in a space like a DIscord server where people have expressly stated they're not comfortable being tacitly included in statements like that

saying "but I don't REALLY mean all humans, I just mean the specific ones at fault!" after the fact does not actually change anything if every other thing you say is constantly "humans humans humans" and not the group you're actually referring to, or at the very least doesn't change how it reads to everyone around you

“the pacing is too fast” so were the books.

“it’s so different from the books, i wanted it exactly like them” of course it’s different the first book wasn’t written with the other 5 books and the following spin offs in mind, so now they’re including details that help expand the world with regards to the whole story + it would be boring if we got a 1:1 retelling of the book like just read the books if that’s the story you want?? 😭

“annabeth is NOT annabeth” yes she literally is pls rmbr that annabeth and percy had a rocky start and they are literally 12!!!

“too much tell and not show” well yeah so were the books 💀 mind you percy’s very new to this world he doesn’t have much pre-existing knowledge other than the stories and so ofc the fastest way to develop the world is by telling, that’s why it’s much easier to show than tell in later books when the readers/watchers alr know so much about how things work so it doesn’t have to be said

“percy’s too serious” he literally makes the best sarcastic comments every episode; the books were written in his perspective, and all his best moments were in his head (which ofc is hard to show), other tv show/movie characters don’t make as many jokes as percy does here idk what ppl are going on about

“they ruined the lotus casino scene, the kids were supposed to have fun” the proceeds to say “where is the sense of urgency!!” now this is so contradicting. you want them to have fun but be urgent?? make it make sense 😭 but yes i would’ve loved to see them get a little distracted, but i loved the scene regardless

the show isn’t perfect, but it’s not as bad as everyone makes it out to be 😕

idk the worst thing about tumblr (or just social media in general . I've just only used tumblr) is that your funny text posts that randomly popped into your head will get SIGNIFICANTLY more interaction than anything that you create whether it's illustration or writing or anything else it will always be like that and it doesn't make sense to me because it takes the same amount of effort to look at a funny post and reblog/share it as it does to look at any form of art that you like and reblog/share it . my top text post has over 1,000 notes and my top art post has a little over 100 because it was fanart for a blogger with a high following and that always fucks me up . Every single time I post art it'll get a few notes here and there but my text posts always get more . Always . There's even a better reblog/like ratio . literally what the fuck . Why is it worth it to reblog something funny but not something that took hours upon hours of effort and dedication. "Art is subjective ‼️>:[" so is humor . What's your point . -ao3 being down due to an outage bc of a literal political attack is fucking pissing me off. please go to @/omarsbigsister on tik Tok, sign her petition and email your senators bc this is fucking ridiculous and if you think conservatives attacking ao3 is a one time thing you are deluding yourself. they're going after fandom spaces first and then it'll be any and all queer media. if this worries you and freaks you out and makes you sad, sign that petition, read the kids online safety act for yourself so you actually understand what's happening, and just do what you can. this stupid fucking law is being backed by both parties bc 90% of the people running the US are either bigots or fucking dumbasses. and even if you're not in America ao3 is based in America so this policy is going to affect it regardless.

-the fact that I'll never get to find out what project X37 is on inside job is, you guessed it, fucking pissing me off. what the fuck Netflix. cancelling another amazing show with nothing else quite like it.

at the moment, and for the foreseeable future i am saying no. just because there are copies of ahb! circulating around SEVERAL websites and vendors being sold for oodles and oodles of dollars. despite my requests for the sellers to stop.

i have had people (etsy vendors) in the past lie to me and say they've made "too many personal handbound copies and are only selling those extra ones" which ,,, was obviously a lie. also they were getting the copies through lulu and selling them just btw.

i have also had people tell me that they are binding them and selling them to others for personal use but not making profit off of them even though they're selling art heist for over $100 a book. so. yeah. another lie

so, sorry! but yeah!! there's not much i can do about people actually listening to me and respecting my wishes etc etc and lord knows they don't, but i would super appreciate it if we kept ahb! an ao3 exclusive for now!

it just makes me feel slightly better to put more rules and boundaries in place! though it's never stopped people in this fandom from bulldozing right through those anyway :/
