with GUTS coming tmrw (AHHHHHHH) i thought i'd post my predictions for the album rollout i made back in july. looks like i was 2/3 right. i based my predictions off the SOUR rollout, noting when the tracklist was dropped, and about when in the whole timeline each single was dropped.

tbh i am a bit disappointed there were only two singles but it makes sense given the GUTS timeline is 2 months shorter than SOUR's.

i think this ⬇️ was meant to be a tease for get him back! being the third single released August 25 (258 - 25/8 - 8/25), but she and her team changed their minds and decided not to drop it so they could let bad idea right? have its moment.

it does make sense for them to have less hype surrounding GUTS given how hard they went to promote SOUR (the candy, the car wash, etc.) but i do wish we'd gotten a liiiitle more. her interviews have been really good though!

HANDWRITTEN CONFESSIONS is the third mini album by the band BONES&ALL, released by MyDol Entertainment on March 14th, 2024. The album consists of six tracks all written and produced by the members themselves. They would go to promote the title track "Love Bug" for a month and a half, performing on music shows as well as doing sets in bars and in small venues.

Love Bug would win two music show awards and sell over 50,000 copies, a new record for the group. Due to the success of the release, it was announced the group would be going on a tour of Asia.

You know...it couldve been worse!

Music-wise, they were stars! radio waves could not get away from Love Bug or Sour Face, which were the most streamed songs on the album. public opinion wise? rough.

Twitter was a battleground. Instagram was a hellscape. YouTube comment sections were raided. constellations, Venus stans, would not let this group breathe. luckily, most of the harassment stayed online and nothing happened at their shows.

Speaking of shows! There were a lof of familiar faces in the crowd! Venus members Jung Yoonah, Chloe Lee, Klara Blix, Lunarix members Taerin, Evie, Yoomi, Siyeon, Twilight members Sammy, Ambrose, Doha, and London would be regular faces in the crowd, leading to a lot of viral interactions.

VIRAL MOMENT #OO1: "My son is here!" Jiho shouts from his drum set with a beaming smile, pointing a drumstick into the crowd. "That's my kid!" Jiho shouts again as the camera whips to get Sammy in frame, the boy laughing behind his palm as he lifts his hand to wave. The crowd cheers for the Cicada interaction, causing Sammy to make a heart with his arms, making the crowd cheer.

VIRAL MOMENT #OO2: "I wrote this song for my girlfriend...My...Love bug-" Roxie interrupts Juwon with a loud "Boo!" causing him and the crowd burst out laughing. The camera pans to the right to reveal a laughing Yoonah.

VIRAL MOMENT #OO3: "Does that sign say mother?" Cherry laughs into her microphone during the performance of Cologne. The clip cuts before the sign is revealed but the sign on neon pink poster board did, in fact, say MOTHER CHERRY on it.

The outfits were very debatable on Twitter, mainly because the guys were really coordinating while the girls were wearing clothes.

"I look like a grandma, oh my goddd—" Roxie could be heard complaining in the background of a vlog that went viral among fans.

Despite having one of the closer relationships in the group, Juwon and Wei seemed distant from each other in this era. In fact, Wei seemed very withdrawn even when interacting with other members.

The group's overall vibe seemed more distant that usual, but since there was no major fallout, fans dismissed the claims and actively fight with anyone who would assume the group were having issues.

It wasn't awful—it could've been better—but it wasn't horrible, and that was enough for them!

MOTOSPEED24 is the digital collaboration single released by CLÉO of STRAY KIDS and BAEBI of VENUS, released on DECEMBER 23, 2023, by both JYP ENTERTAINMENT and FLOWERBANK ENTERTAINMENT. the song spins a cold and lonely story of feverishly wanting to be loved even when out on the lonely streets of seoul, the production intentionally mimicing the girls’ lyrical fluidity, offering an invigorating mix of sounds from dark pop and entrancing vocals.

the MOTOSPEED24 music video follows storylines from two different perspectives : CLÉO, who plays a lonely character outside a nightclub, looking for someone to take her home and feel loved even if temporary, and BAEBI, who plays a character in a turbulent relationship wishing for someone to love her right. the video switches from both perspectives, back and forth, until the storylines meet up towards the end with a resounding crash, ending the video — a clear jab to the final lyrics, YOU AND I ARE ALIVE HERE.

CLÉO’s PERSPECTIVE

cléo’s scenes consist of her mainly lingering around a nightclub, her voice soft as she sings her lines and enviously eyeing fellow club goers who seem to be having a good time together — without her

she’s also seen sending flirtatious glances with a mysterious figure in the club who’s face is never shown in the the video

lured in by the promise of love and the warmth she’s been craving from another human being, she’s drawn into going back to the mysterious figure’s home, getting on the back of their motorcycle to jet off into the night

dangerously swerving in and out of lanes, the heightened nerves of the speeding drive contrast greatly against cléo’s peaceful expression, resting her head against the biker’s shoulder. only towards the end of the video does her panic start to show, awash in bright lights as an equally speeding car heads their way. her eyes widen, wind brushing her hair back, but is ultimately too late to bodily react before the crash happens.

NOTES ABOUT THE COLLABORATION

𓄹 after unexpected tik tok challenges between the two for stray kids and venus’ respective albums, fans loved the cute interactions between the two girls, their energies syncing almost immediately and going wild for the cutest ending poses at the end of each video. unbeknownst to most, the two had originally met at a music show a year before those challenges, simply exchanging pleasantries whenever they pass each other.

𓄹 when talks of a collaboration was in the works for cléo, she didn’t hesitate to ask the company to work on the song with a girl from an outside group. when asked about it, she said, ‘ my first thought was immediately baebi. ever since i saw her perform on stage during that music show, it kind of just clicked for me, you know ? i thought she was perfect to encapsulate the feel i was going for the song. ’

𓄹 the song has a lot of dark and sour elements, such as naivety masked as desperation and uneven relationships, which directly contradict the almost soft and light way the lyrics are sung, which was completely intended. ‘ the song is supposed to make you feel like a cold chill is running down your back. it’s supposed to make you shiver, and yet you can’t look away. kind of like how despite how brutal they are, humans can’t help but to not look away from crashes and other disasters. that’s why i brought up the idea of closing the song with lyrics that completely laugh at the ending. it’s meant to keep you suspended in equal parts chill and curiosity. ’

𓄹 the song got a lot of buzz for being released during the holiday season, wondering why such a cold song was dropped during a time of supposed celebration and warmth. in a live after the release, cléo mentions wanting to create something different than what was to be expected. ‘ i didn’t want to release a christmas song this year! maybe next year if you guys are good, haha. ’

𓄹 cléo is credited with full writing and partial production credits for MOTOSPEED24. bits and pieces of the studio recording sessions were recorded and posted on their youtube channels, depicting the creative process cléo, baebi, and the production teams took to making the collaboration a success. shots of the girls’ jokingly fooling around were the most replayed parts of these videos, going on to become templates for reaction videos and pictures.

𓄹 MOTOSPEED24 would receive a whopping 12 MILLION views within the first 24 hours, trending on twitter and tiktok as the views just kept climbing throughout the christmas and new year period. many prominent youtubers would go on to react to and praise the girls’ for a completely unexpected yet exceptional performance, stylists and artists alike attempting to recreate the music video’s looks and artistic choices in lighting and setting. the collaboration was cemented as one of best to come out the year.

According to what Juno has said, this EP is the first of a trilogy, so the plot of this and the future albums are connected to one other.

A super awaited debut, fans were eager for Juno’s debut, since the news of the members starting of their solo careers.

It got promoted for almost one month, Juno participated in many korean and westerns shows. He received four wins in all korean show and a trophy in the AMAs.

This album’s release timing was exactly the best, since Junho was into a drug scandal making his fans turning backs at him, even also the debut announcement, since it’s rumored that he “used” his solo debut to distract fans.

The White Album has always been a controversial album in the Beatles' canon. While some (rightly) hail it as a masterpiece, an album greater than all of its flaws, some are dissatisfied enough with it to suggest that it would have been a better, stronger record had it been confined to a single LP.

I've long disagreed with that stance, and recently managed to finish a project I'd been working on for a long time. What if the White Album was a TRIPLE album?

𓄹 cléo was PISSED when she found out the song was leaked. especially when she planned to release the song eventually, she just put on the back burner for a bit due to schedules and other personal reasons. she eventually ‘got over it’, but still harbors resentment for it till present day. the culprit was never caught either, which only soured the situation.

𓄹 fans really want cléo to release a newer and cleaner version of ATY, but she’s put it behind her for now.

𓄹 the sound trended on tik tok despite the story behind it, leading more people to want more of her sound. so she supposes something good came out of it, but better a clean and crisp song than something unfinished, right?

Spilling My GUTS

After releasing her first album SOUR as a teenager and achieving high levels of success, pop star Olivia Rodrigo’s popularity is rapidly burgeoning with the recent release of her second album GUTS, displaying a wide variety of extremely relatable emotions. It may be an understatement to say that the world is hooked. But let’s be honest. The herd mentality can prevent any person from thinking about whether or not a song is really good. Pitchfork's rave reviews of the album, saying that "Rodrigo makes acting stupidly sound so fun you wonder what’s the point of being smart", places my expectations right on top of Mount Everest. So right here, right now, we’re going through the first five songs from the GUTS tracklist and figuring out which songs are worth a listen and which songs should be banned from touching the human ear.

all-american b****

No other song would’ve been a better fit for the first song of this album. All-american b**** tells the tale of a girl who is just simply perfect in an absolutely unattainable way. The song starts with only acoustic guitar and Rodrigo’s soft voice. As the song goes on, the drums and electric guitar hit, showing us a new perspective on the lyrics, making them more sarcastic and angry. As Rodrigo says, women are expected to be “built like a mother and a total machine.” This expectation is extremely contradictory and the anger about an unreachable standard that all women are expected to uphold is a sentiment that virtually every woman has felt. I find this song to be perfect for her demographic of teenage girls, but I don’t think it excludes anyone. With its catchy melody and choruses, anyone could find themselves with this song stuck in their head.

2. bad idea right?

The song “bad idea right?” tells the familiar tale of going back to your ex despite having already told your friends awful things about him. The heavy guitars and drums really add to the chaotic nature of the song, furthering the theme of knowing that you’re making a mistake but doing something anyway. The way Rodrigo raps the verses is extremely catchy and bouncy. It makes singing along extra fun since you get to copy her style of fun storytelling. The chorus is when the music goes full force, and although I didn’t like the vocals at first since I thought they were a bit one-note (literally), the song has worked its magic on me. I find that Rodrigo’s stylistic choices and vocals really set apart what would’ve been an otherwise boring chorus. I can see why a lot of people like it. However, I genuinely think there are lots of better songs on the album, so this would be pretty low on the list if I were to recommend a song.

3. vampire 

Hate me for this if you want, but I’m actually not a fan of this song. I know, I know. It’s on the radio every five minutes. Why would I ever not like it? But hear me out. It’s just so Driver’s License, a song from Rodrigo’s first album that jump-started her popularity. I see the appeal. The premise of the song is Rodrigo’s experience of being treated badly by an older man she was in a relationship with. The music involves a lot of piano background vocal harmonies, and a soft beat. The vocals are great and the music is good, but I don’t find myself drawn to this song. I don’t think it’s all that special, which may be what makes it good to release for the general public, but I’m just not interested.

4. Lacy

Lacy is about a complicated relationship with a girl. Hating her, being jealous of her, and loving her are all on the never-ending list of emotions that Rodrigo feels about her. The light guitar and soft harmonies that build through the song really encapsulate the overall feeling of the song: hiding emotions you don’t quite understand. I love how Rodrigo packs this song with details about her Lacy, describing her as having “skin like puff pastry” and “ribbons in [her] hair”. Lacy is just all too real. She’s so wonderful that you could never be mean to her, but you’re too jealous to ever be nice to her. This song has a lot to offer. The music sets up the lyrics perfectly, and the lyrics draw you in with their expressiveness. I simply can’t hate this song.

5. ballad of a homeschooled girl

I can very clearly see the vision of this song. For a song about not being able to socialize after being homeschooled, it’s pretty catchy. I love the bass and the guitar. I’d consider it a strength of Rodrigo’s to show us anger and frustration through rock-inspired music. She does this through the chorus, complaining about how every single one of her social interactions is “social suicide.” I’m a fan of the way Rodrigo is showing us more of her “brutal” side, a song from her last album SOUR that got a lot of attention for being extremely catchy and fun. However, the catch with this song is that the verses are just not as good as the chorus is. The lyrics are basic and I don’t love the rapping. Don’t get me wrong, it’s absolutely not bad. Her rapping is actually surprisingly good in the song, but the music behind the verses is just too empty. There needs to be more of a body to the song, but I still find myself wanting to listen to it anyway.

From the first five songs, I can really see the growth in Olivia Rodrigo's voice and style. This whole album decided to take a bit more of the pop-punk direction and this definitely suits Rodrigo's vibe. A lot of the choices throughout the album really help showcase her emotions and experiences. GUTS is just so quintessentially teenager that I find it impossible for people to hate, even though the Rolling Stones may have been a bit overzealous to call it an instant classic. From the anger to the sadness, the experience of growing up, making mistakes, and finding yourself has been condensed into this music. It has the potential to help a lot of teenagers feel less alone at a confusing time in their life, or at the very least, show them a good time.
