I'd absolutely love some sterek fic recs because I'm trying to broaden the ships I read. I've watched the first 3 seasons of teen wolf but haven't read any fics and don't know where to start. I'm fairly open to reading any content, although I'm not the biggest fan of like the common school/coffee shop etc AUs.

Also I love how you're gotten into blogging hockey recently. Have you read any hockey rpf since getting into nhl? Personally sidgeno and mattdrai have my heart, but like I said I'm looking for new ships to read like sterek.

As always, read the tags etc etc. Probably a lot of these will be author recs. I will say Sterek has the potential for an age gap concern but I don't read fic where that's written as a predatory thing, FWIW, but I do read some where Stiles is 17 but where I feel like it's handled at least somewhat gracefully

Gravity's Got Nothing on You by @zosofi is great - I really like all their stuff actually!

@kalpurna's Fascination and @drunktuesdays' bigger, longer and uncut are both *gems* - so funny.

We've Written Volumes (in Blood and Scars and Ink) by @notthequiettype is absolutely brilliant, one of my fav fics of all time, way up on my reread regularly list. They only have one other Sterek but I love that one too (and they write hockey rpf but I haven't really dived in there yet!).

The Moon's Gonna Follow Me Home by @turningterrific is stunning. They're SUCH a good writer, although sadly this is their only Sterek (but they have written some amazing hockey RPF as well!).

Every stumble and each misfire by @everchanginginks is fucking phenomenal. True story, I read this fic and then didn't keep track of it but it stayed in my brain, and I spent literally HOURS combing my AO3 history to find it, and when I did, I promptly downloaded it and created the "Best Ever" collection on my Kindle specifically for this fic.

Everything by @suburbanmotel. They are an incredible writer and even more incredible person and I'm so lucky to call them a friend!

I really love @lunacanislupus-22-blog writing but particular favorites are: Feel it like a fever, burning through the night , Spirit grows when love goes away and I know that you love me, even when I lose my head (and I'm not normally one for amnesia fics because they make me SO ANXIOUS but this one is SO good).

Cornerstone by Vendelin is really good too (mind the tags on this one).

By Any Other Name by @entanglednow is fucking phenomenal (and again with the amnesia fics?!?!) and so so well-written. Check out all their stuff!

I really love @devildoll's writing very much a lot! Particular favorites include: Come with Me and Walk the Longest Mile (and I don't usually gravitate to post-apocalyptic fic even though I love the genre in fiction but this one is fucking brilliant); Stand Fast in Your Enchantments (painful and so good); My Heart Comes Tumbling Down (OH MY HEART) and Love, Like a Sentence of Death.

There's Monsters at Home by @wellhalesbells | calrissian18 is a classic and really good! They've written a ton of really great fics (the Hilary Duff lyrics one is a another personal favorite!)

Not Quite Lost (Not Quite Found) by @alocalband is gorgeous. Just. beautifully written.

stuck in reverse by @crazyassmurdererwall is also really good! Definitely check the tags on this one, as it is Stiles still in HS.

Start Small, Like Oak Trees by smallbirds is really lovely. Everything of theirs that I've read, I've really liked.

Okay, just a couple more I promise!!

The Difficult Kind (series) by whiskey_in_tea is an old one but really really wonderful.

The First Date series by @halffizzbin - the whole thing is delightful but I absolutely adore the final installment!

I will note that many of these authors also have Hockey RPF fic, JUST SAYING (I really am fascinated as to what that pipeline is??). I've read a ton of hockey RPF as well (sidgeno for sure) and I'll check out mattdrai now!!

I actually really mostly liked this for Stiles’ single parent struggles and (platonic) relationship with the baby’s birth mother, the werewolf stuff & romance was cute but mostly incidental.

20 Questions For Fic Writers

Thanks to @sweet-s0rr0w for the mention! Side note: Nor All That Glisters is beyond brilliant, I can't believe I only found it last month!

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

14 - somehow this feels like heaps and nothing at the same time!

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

476,709! Half of those are from one fic though

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Only HP at the moment. I'm very much a 'one fandom at a time' person!

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

The Lesson of You (65k, E) - kidfic, family feels, featuring my favourite tag of all time: accidental child acquisition. I saw that tag on a Sterek fic and it was like a lightning bolt of inspiration - I wrote this fic based on that tag alone!

Walk the Line (16k, E) - Draco sees Harry in the Mirror of Erised but doesn't know what it is and asks Harry about it.

Tales of Apparation Gone Awry (12k, E) - humor, Draco in denial, sometimes accidental drunk Apparition.

Potter's Snake Removal Services (3k, E) - humor, misconstrued texts, tent sex, Goyle being traumatised by said tent sex.

Slytherin Eighth Years are Shit at Potions (or are they?) (4k, T) - Draco's friends slip him a love potion and think they've poisoned him when he acts the same towards Harry.

Side note: my top 3 by kudos are 3/5 of the fics I put in an ask response about my favourite fics of mine - apparently my opinion is the same as the general consensus!

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I do now, but I didn't used to (social anxiety is a bitch). I make an effort to respond now because I read all of them and they genuinely do make a massive difference. I don't respond to comments on things I posted before this year - there's so many now on certain fics that were posted so long ago that it would feel beyond awkward for me to respond to them now. I wouldn't want to start responding to new comments on those fics without then doing the same for the earlier comments either. So 2023 onwards at this point!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Nothing that's been posted, mine all tend to be very fluffy. I don't really fuck with unhappy endings, life is angsty enough as it is! I like nice cliche endings tied up with brightly coloured bows. That said, a short fic that's going up sometime this month does have an ambiguous ending, so that'll be my answer then.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Most of my stuff tends to be pretty fluffy at the end. The ending of The Brightest Constellations of Our Souls is pretty bloody saccharine though!

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not in my comments section, thankfully. I did see one of my fics get rec'd on tik tok at one point and the teens in the comments section were warning others away from looking at my account because of a certain PWP that's on there, which did make me laugh quite a bit!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Definitely! I find smut the easiest thing to write. If I feel writer's block coming on I sit down and write a smut scene or crank out a PWP! I've got quite a few completed ones that have been sitting in my docs since 2018!

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Nope, crossovers definitely aren't my thing!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of. I don't even know why you would tbh.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I've been lucky enough to have multiple fics be translated!

The Lesson of You has been translated into Russian and Korean, Potter's Snake Removal Services and Silent Night have also both been translated into Russian!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope, but it would be an interesting thing to try!

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

Drarry for sure! I have major brain rot for this ship.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

The very first fic I ever started writing for this fandom! It was a soulmate AU about seeing colours that I wrote around 8k for and then moved on to something else. I read through all of my half-finished fics when I started writing for this fandom again this year and was like 'hey, I quite like this' and then - shock horror - it got pushed to the wayside again. Maybe it'll get done eventually, who knows!

16. What are your writing strengths?

God, I don't even know. Sometimes it's humor, sometimes it's descriptions. Depends on the day, I reckon!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Pacing, probably. For Brightest Constellations I tried to combat this by literally drawing up a table and writing for each location exactly what stage of their relationship Draco and Harry would be at. I did manage to stick to it with only a few changes, but it was properly hard!

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I don't do it because I'm embarrassed I'd get it wrong! I don't mind reading it though!

19. First fandom you wrote for?

One Direction (lmao). Fourteen year old me wrote a Harry/Louis fic in the notes app on my iPad that will never, upon pain of death, see the light of day!

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

The Brightest Constellations of Our Souls. I wrote this because I wanted to read something like it and I didn't think there were nearly enough road trip fics in this fandom. I also wanted to do a character study on Harry, since many fics focus on Draco's trauma. I absolutely adore this fic and I'm thinking about getting it bound so I can see it on my bookshelf. I'm so heckin proud of it!

Messy Draft Monday Tuesday

from my currently untitled Expanse AU Sterek fic that I probably won't get to work on for a while because I have so many other things to do ahhhh!

Mieczysław “Stiles” Stilinski was not having a good day, but that wasn’t unusual for a young Belter so often surrounded by Squats and Dusters on stations who, in addition to looking down (or rather up) at him took so much of what they’d been gifted by circumstance of birth for granted. The arrogance that came from wealth and technology or the privilege of breathing free air. And yet he was also a lucky one and would never forget that.

Unlike his own mother who had wasted away from an illness that was still uncommon, but increasing among their people, Stiles was generally healthy and free of the ravages of malnourishment and low-gravity, having nice, strong bones despite never having set foot on anything that wasn’t rock or metal. A perk that came from his father, a former Earther lawman who had given up the planet to be with his mother, having had access to the proper meds when he’d worked for Star Helix while Stiles was gestating and then a growing boy.

So yeah, he’d been lucky. But it seemed that that luck was about to run out because what was unusual about today was the fact that his small, malfunctioning vessel was now being approached by a Martian warship. This was so not the kind of "help" he’d been hoping for when he toggled on the distress beacon hours ago.

Stiles had no choice, but to let them board lest he be assumed a criminal and given so-called Martian justice, i.e., blown up. The first to enter was a blonde she-wolf with a frankly unnerving grin, followed by a bald, dark-skinned guy with eyes that took in everything. Lastly, came an intense looking Growler with an air of authority who he assumed to be the Alpha and was somehow unfairly attractive even underneath the tinted face plate of his light armor. No doubt the pilot and any others remained behind to guard the ship and be ready to take off at a moment’s notice.

The three wolves dug through his things and poked at his dashboard despite his agitated protestations and Baldy soon informed him matter-of-factly that his ship was “all fucked up.” He then told Stiles that unless he had an account full of scrip or something far more valuable than the heap of junk he’d nicknamed Roscoe to barter with that he wasn’t getting a tow much less a repair job from a mech.

Fuck. He began to panic in earnest as the reality of not only losing one of the last things he had left of his mother, but likely dying out here stranded and alone took hold. There was no guarantee that others would pass by in time — or care to stop if they did — and the Martians were under no obligation to take him with them, to share their air and water and transport him to a station. He’d heard of many such cases before, inferior “Skinnies” like him left to die by ghoulish Inners (or even worse, fellow Belters) who often had no qualms about circling back some time later to scavenge freely from the ships turned tombs.

Eyes closed, Stiles shuddered at the thought of his father either finding out about his incredibly pointless death or never knowing exactly what happened to him and couldn’t decide which would be worse. He was beginning to feel light-headed when all of a sudden a heavy hand clamped down on his shoulder.

“Breathe,” a voice commanded. Despite his usual aversion to authority figures, his own Daddio something of an exception, he latched onto the voice and did as instructed, managing to calm himself faster than he normally could. When he opened his eyes the Alpha was right there, that piercing gaze boring into him. He blinked and jerked back, anxious and defensive about his vulnerability around these strangers. These imperious Martian wolves.

The blonde snorted and muttered something about leaving him for his own to find if he was going to be that way and his heart began pounding again.

“Reyes!” the Alpha snarled warningly and she made the motion of baring her throat — kind of a hilarious gesture wearing armor — before throwing up her hands and clomping back to their ship. Glowing red eyes turned back toward Stiles, making him swallow nervously. Yep, definitely just fear and nothing else. “Hurry up and get your things, you’re coming with us.”

Summary:

When it began, it was subtle. Dreams within dreams that felt real, his awake moments less real than the time spent asleep. Dreams where he was with Lydia - sleeping, sitting at lunch, driving somewhere vitally important.

Why was he with Lydia? Were they together? When and how did it happen? When he asked himself these questions, the answers simply came and that felt like enough, even if the answers were nonsensical.

After a while, he didn’t feel the need to question the why anymore.

This is a pre-slash, canon divergent story that looks at Stiles' possession by the Nogitsune from his point of view with a moment before the confrontation at the loft in which Derek agrees to host the Nogitsune in exchange for Stiles' life.

Rated Explicit for Graphic Depictions of Violence and Major Character Death. This one has All The Angst.

“Welcome to Lucky Ewe! On Lucky Ewe, my best friends Scott and Erica and I talk about yarn, knitting, crochet, and all other things yarnie! Lucky Ewe is a community yarn shop in Beacon Hills, California and we like to think of ourselves as the neighborhood hangout for the crafty types. We do online orders, too; you can find our web address below and in the show notes!”

“I'm Stiles, this is my best friend in the entire world, stepbrother, and co-owner, Scott McCall - Scottie, I’m so happy you could join us today! Scott’s a veterinarian, too, so he doesn’t have all the time in the world, and we’re so happy when he can join us! And to my left is my sister-from-another-mister Erica Reyes, fellow shopkeeper, fellow knitter, Super Friend!”

Taking a deep breath, Stiles turned to Scott and said, “So, what did you do this weekend Scott?"

For just a moment, Scott looked like he’d been caught doing something that he wasn’t supposed to do. “Um, yeah, Ali and I went out again. She’s amazing. And I met her dad, who is terrifying, and his husband, who sort of looked like he wanted to eat me?”

“Well, you are sexy in a lifetime friends sort of way,” Stiles commented, Erica nodding her head in agreement. “So why the look that you’d been caught? We love Ali! She’s been coming here for years; it’s about time you two started dating.”

Looking at the camera, Erica said, “They’ve been mooning disgustingly over each other forever.”

“Like you’re not naming our sale codes after Boyd,” Scott countered, smiling with affection.

“Don’t avoid the question, Scottie. You know I’ll drag it out of you eventually,” Stiles said.

“Well, the easiest way to meet both her dad and stepdad was - well, see, Peter, her stepdad ..”

“Peter Hale, folks, famous vintner behind Wolf’s Head Wines and SUUUUPER loaded,” Stiles supplied.

“Yeah, him. He hangs out at his nephew’s store a lot.” Scott replied, looking at his hands, which he was wringing underneath the table.

“His nephew being Derek Hale? The same Derek Hale who runs The Hale Yarn Company?” Erica challenged, looking aghast.

“It’s not like you haven’t been there a hundred times, what with Boyd working there,” Scott argued back.

“Yes, but you said, and I quote, ‘I will never step foot in The Hale Yarn Company,’ and then Stiles said that was ridiculous, that you could go wherever you wanted, and then you said that Claudia had a good reason for not liking them even though no one knows what that reason was and also that it was in Cottonwood Valley and Cottonwood Valley makes you feel like you should buy a better car and they only have Whole Foods for groceries which is way too expensive and no good fast food...”

“Which, folks, means that they don’t have Panda Express,” Stiles interrupted.

“Panda Express is the bomb,” Scott mused with a smile.

“It’s all about the orange chicken,” Stiles contributed.

My #1 post of 2022

For my birthday in September an anonymous gifter bought me a commission from @seanchaidh7! Here it is! (I couldn’t be more thrilled with it - look at how beautiful they are! Look at the lighting in the hall! Look at their beautiful expressions! Ashley is AMAZING in every way!!)

And Derek was now fully facing Stiles and they'd stepped closer to each other.

"Yeah?" breathed Stiles as Derek looked at his lips again and then looked Stiles in the eyes.

Derek nodded.

Stiles - he just couldn't think. Because Derek Hale was beautiful. The most beautiful person to have ever been created. And Derek Hale opened up to him and would rip his soul out for Stiles if he thought that was what it took to help Stiles. And Stiles would do the same in a second. Immediately.

And that's when Stiles realized it, fully and completely and without a doubt. That's when he knew that this is what it feels like - this, here, with Derek - this is what it feels like to love someone. Wholly and completely and without reservation. The opening up and the vulnerability and the trust and the safety, it was love. And having a past with a person, and being best friends with them. And picking out their furniture and them holding you when you cry and then wiping the snot off of your face in the still of the night. This was love.

He was in love with Derek Hale. And he was pretty damn sure that Derek Hale was in love with him.

His lips were so close, and when Stiles looked up, Derek was staring in his eyes. He looked so impassioned and open and ready . Like he wanted to move in closer but he just couldn't move those last few inches.

So Stiles did it for him.
