dire crowley
he is…. interesting- he does mean well but he just does a poor job executing that sometimes. he was never expecting to feel such a sense of protectiveness and being overly doting to you. it started when he couldn't help but feel pity for your own situation and watching you adjust to this world is tough.
you’ll find him randomly popping up out of nowhere in school and he’ll ask how you’re doing. a way as a check up on how you’re handling this world and school life so far, he’d tell you if you ask him. as soon as you ask him about home… "oh! is someone is calling me?" and just literally disappears.
In this case, I feel like his reluctance to figure out a way to bring you home stems from the fact that he really does care for you and doesn't want to lose that. so, let's just say, it'll take him awhile to figure that out. crowley seems to be trying to convince you how amazing, twisted wonderland really is! you could thrive and live so happily here! (minus the overblots… terrifying magic… creatures and more) he tells you how great it is for you already have a home, a whole dorm for yourself, as he’d say: “for i am so gracious!” that he’s done such a generous thing for you.
the first time you tried to give him a hug as thanks for something he was completely confused and didn't know how to react. he laughed and gave you the awkward pat on the back but once again, he means well i promise.
divus crewel
you have blatant favoritism from him… he seems a little less strict with you and if a student asks he’ll deny and tell them he doesn't do that or that he has to be since you’re not even from this world. he wouldn't expect you to know how to do certain things after all.
but still, ace and grim could groan because they got in trouble for forgetting homework or assignments but if you did he’d sigh and be like “bring it in tomorrow” and they are always so UPSET. it's also rare to get some compliments from him, but he seems to point out something well you did and give you a little “good improvement” and such. It's so obvious how he seems to care for you.
divus is literally the epitome of judgment when it comes to anyone having eyes for you or you tell him about even liking someone yourself… he is too protective and feels like any boy at this school is undeserving of you. he sees any attempt during class of one of them flirting or anything as them simply bothering you. If you mention someone like floyd he’d give you the most concerned look and be like “oh… him, how troublesome”. he doesn't really say what he thinks, unless you really ask for his opinion. he more so listens to you talk and he does genuinely try to give you some advice, even if it's a bit blunt.
mozus trein
now despite his strict and sternness, he can be a very calming person to be around and talk to. he will be pretty quiet, but he can become someone you just find if you need to talk as he listens and grades assignments, doing some work. if you really need to take your mind of certain worries and stresses, like finding a way back to your world- he'll offer you some tea and maybe even offer to play a game of chess with you (as he does with divus sometimes!)
trein is a father himself, he was very close to his daughters- so it actually is quite easy for him out of all of the staff members to develop a familial like relationship with. he enjoys having that feeling of looking after someone again and being someone, you could look up to in that sense. he would eventually notice that you do see him in such a way, he wouldn't say it, but it does warm his heart.
he'll let you play and pet lucius, it's just part of your special privileges. surprisingly, the cat likes you and always tries rubbing against you. since trein trusts you though, you will be given the duty to buy lucius cat toys from sams shop with money he gives you, he says its "in compensation" haha.
if you happen to be causing trouble with grim or some student in class, he'll scold you. but through it, he will remind and tell you he knows you're a good kid and doesn't want other bothersome students tarnishing your potential.
ashton vargas
oh poor you if you dread fitness or sports because he's always booming so loud, excited and pumped to get you involved more. even if you don't want to do something with others, he loves initiating one on one games with you and challenging you. he will not go easy though and laughs proudly whenever he wins. he'll still pat you on the back and tell you "nice job, kid!" or something of that sort. he's very supportive even if hes overly competitive at times.
sometimes you do have to hear his tangents on how he became so fit and strong... especially his "advice" on how great it is to consume raw eggs... this guy . he tries telling you it'd benefit you.
lowkey makes a big deal if you got hurt and needed to go to the infirmary. he always tries to keep a special eye on you in case and tries his absolute best to make sure you're alright. even after getting help, you needed from the nurse, still!!
sam
he tends to keep a watchful eye on you... he would much prefer and even offer, saying you'd be perfect to be working beside him at his shop. he wouldn't want you resorting or going somewhere like the mostro lounge really. but other than that, he is a very carefree guy who you could easily find yourself talking to about problems or issues you're having. his attitude and approach to things can be a good help.
also, if you're in general in need of something from his store, because you're extra special to him he'll sometimes just give you heavily discounted or even be like take it, ("it wasn't selling anyways"). hehe. he cares. especially when it comes to like snacks or food he'll have, he'll claim it's your "employee benefits!" if you're working there.
sam is pretty much in the loop with anything interesting happening at school or things he may have overheard from students. you can easily get gossip out of him, just saying. but sometimes that just turns him into trying to discreetly warn you about certain students at nrc.

i saw the ask about tog a/b/o and I gotta ask, what are your headcanons (if you've thought about it) slash how would you write an a/b/o damerey(/finnpoerey) story??
Have I not posted damerey A/B/O???
::checks::
Apparently I have not, I was thinking of @dracosollicitus' excellent one. LOL
I mean, here's the thing: by and large, M/F A/B/O doesn't interest me, because for me, the interesting part of A/B/O is taking a Blorbo (who are, generally speaking, white cishet men AKA the epitome of privilege) and subjecting him to misogyny, basically. When there's already a man and a woman in the pairing, I feel like the ~point~ of A/B/O is already kind of missing. Like, it's just a soulmate AU at that point, and I don't really like most soulmate AUs. Unless you're really going hard on the social commentary of misogyny wrt your A/B/O, the like... interesting part of it is kind of missing, for me.
So I don't really know what I would do with a Poe/Rey or Poe/Rey/Finn A/B/O that would make it like... NEED to be an A/B/O fic as opposed to a straight-up soulmate AU. Hmmmm.

Efficiency In The Air: How Proper Planning Of Airport Permits Elevates Your Private Jet Charter Experience
Traveling by private jet is the epitome of luxury and convenience. Whether for business or leisure, the experience of flying on a private jet is unparalleled. One key factor that can significantly enhance your private jet charter experience is the proper planning of airport permits. In this article, we will explore how efficient airport permit planning can elevate your private jet charter experience, ensuring a seamless and stress-free journey from start to finish.
The Privileges of Private Jet Travel
Private jet travel offers a multitude of advantages, making it an attractive option for those who value their time and comfort. These benefits include:
Customized Itineraries: When you charter a private jet, you have the flexibility to create a personalized flight schedule that suits your needs. There are no fixed departure times, and you can choose the most convenient airports for your departure and arrival.
Time Savings: Private jets often operate from smaller, less congested airports, allowing for quicker check-ins and shorter security procedures. This translates into significant time savings compared to commercial flights.
Luxurious Comfort: Private jets are designed with passenger comfort in mind. You can enjoy spacious cabins, plush seating, gourmet catering, and all the amenities you desire.
Privacy and Security: With a private jet, you have the aircraft to yourself, ensuring complete privacy during your journey. Additionally, you have control over who accompanies you on the flight, enhancing security and confidentiality.
Efficiency: Private jets can access a vast network of airports, including those not served by commercial airlines. This flexibility means you can get closer to your destination, reducing ground transportation time.
The Role of Airport Permits
While the privileges of private jet travel are clear, their full realization relies heavily on meticulous planning, particularly when it comes to airport permits. Airport permits are authorizations granted by relevant authorities that allow an aircraft to operate at a specific airport. These permits are essential for a seamless private jet charter experience, and here’s why:
Access to Exclusive Airports:
Private jet travelers often choose smaller, private airports for their convenience and proximity to their destination. Properly planned permits ensure access to these exclusive airports, bypassing the congestion and delays often associated with major commercial hubs.
International Travel:
For international journeys, airport permits are crucial. They allow private jets to land at foreign airports and navigate customs and immigration procedures smoothly. Without the necessary permits, international travel can become a logistical nightmare.
Compliance and Safety:
Airport permits also ensure that your private jet operations comply with all relevant regulations and safety standards. This includes verifying the aircraft’s airworthiness, crew qualifications, and adherence to local aviation laws.
Scheduling and Coordination:
Efficient planning of airport permits is vital for scheduling. It ensures that your aircraft can land and take off according to your customized itinerary, minimizing delays and maximizing your time.
Cost Management:
Properly planned airport permits can also contribute to cost management. Delays or re-routing due to permit issues can result in additional expenses, such as extra fuel costs and crew overtime.
Challenges in Obtaining Airport Permits
While airport permits are crucial, obtaining them can be a complex and time-consuming process. The challenges associated with permit acquisition include:
Regulatory Complexity: Each country and airport may have its own set of regulations and requirements for private jet operations. Navigating this regulatory landscape can be daunting.
Lead Time: The process of obtaining permits often requires a lead time, which varies from one location to another. Failure to plan ahead can lead to last-minute permit issues.
Documentation and Compliance: Adequate documentation and compliance with regulations are essential for permit approval. This includes providing detailed information about the aircraft, passengers, and crew, as well as meeting safety and security standards.
Language Barriers: International travel may involve dealing with permits in different languages, which can be a barrier for efficient communication and coordination.
Permit Costs: Obtaining permits may come with associated fees and charges, which can vary widely depending on the location and type of operation.
Efficient Permit Planning: Elevating Your Experience
To ensure a seamless private jet charter experience, it’s essential to address the challenges associated with airport permits effectively. Here are some strategies to consider:
Engage Professional Assistance: Working with experienced aviation service providers or charter brokers can simplify the permit acquisition process. They have the knowledge and contacts to navigate the complexities and ensure all necessary permits are obtained.
Plan Ahead: Start the permit application process well in advance of your travel date, especially for international journeys. This allows ample time for processing and reduces the risk of last-minute issues.
Stay Informed: Keep abreast of the latest regulations and requirements for private jet operations in your desired destinations. Being informed will help you provide the necessary documentation and comply with local rules.
Establish Clear Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with your charter provider, permit authorities, and ground handling services. Clear communication ensures that everyone involved is on the same page, reducing the chances of misunderstandings or delays.
Consider Permit Costs: Factor permit fees into your travel budget. While they may vary, knowing the approximate costs in advance can help with financial planning.
Efficiency in the air is a hallmark of private jet travel, and proper planning of airport permits plays a pivotal role in achieving this efficiency. By addressing the challenges associated with permits and adopting strategic approaches, private jet travelers can elevate their charter experience to new heights. Whether it’s accessing exclusive airports, ensuring international compliance, or minimizing delays, efficient permit planning is the key to unlocking the full potential of private jet travel. So, the next time you embark on a private jet charter journey, remember that behind the scenes, careful permit planning is making your luxurious and convenient experience possible.

everyone knew how much bakugou katsuki absolutely adored you. bakugou wasnt one to outwardly express feelings for anyone. other classmates had gone through hell for him and he could barely mutter a thank you. in simple terms, he was a dick, and everyone expected his grouchy behavior. but not with you. things were different with you. he was just so open with his admiration and how he would do anything for you. some random guys were checking you out and making you uncomfortable? not on his watch, he beat up those stupid extras and put them in their place. you were craving ramen in the middle of the night. no problem. why else did he have a love for cooking if he couldnt be your personal chef. your wish was literally his command. so when you said you wanted to be more..adventourous in the bedroom, he accepted your request. on one small condition, you were only to include one extra person and he got to chose. the lucky guest was none other than his best friend Kirishima. Kirishima was absolutely thrilled to receive the invitation. he viewed his bakubro as the epitome of manly and couldnt wait to see what that meant in the context of the bedroom.
“theres three rules” started Bakugou.
The three of you were gathered in yours and Bakugous bedroom. originally, you wanted to make the night less awkward by starting with dinner then easing into … you know … the sex. But Bakugou was too impatient. As soon as Kirishima knocked on the door, Bakugou had dragged the two of you into the bedroom (without even properly greeting Kirishima) and got right down to business.
“first things first. you’re here because she wants you to be. You need to understand that whatever she allows you to do is a privilege. So when she says stop, or slow down, you listen, immediately. i don’t care if you’re inside her and one second away from busting. you stop whatever you’re doing or i will rip of your dick alright.”
you rolled your eyes at your boyfriends ridiculous threat, Kirishima was a gentleman and you felt utterly safe with him.
Kirishima simply nodded. This was an obvious and easy rule to follow. Forcing yourself on someone was totally not manly. Besides he was really excited to be here. He was willing to precisely follow every single rule so he could get an invitation to do this again.
“second. i like it rough, so we use the stoplight system to keep each other safe. you familiar with that shitty hair?” questioned Bakugou.
Kirishima proudly nodded his head. This was another easy rule to follow and now he was only one rule away from the fun. He couldn’t wait to get started.
Bakugou gave a brief smirk at his friends eagerness. It was quickly washed away as he began to shake his head, almost like he was disappointed at his friends unclear response.
“I need words Red. Explain the different colors so I can make sure were on the same page” Bakugou said sternly.
Kirishima gulped, weirdly turned on by his friends strictness.
“Um. Green means were good to keep going. That Im enjoying what were doing. Yellow means Im a bit hesitant. We either need to slow down or take a quick break and proceed with caution. Red means stop whatever were doing. That I am uncomfortable or hurt, or just not enjoying it.” replied Kirishima.
Bakugou nodded, satisfied with Kirishimas thoroughness. “Good boy” he said to show Kirishima his approval.
Kirishima almost choked.
“Lastly. In this room, Im in charge. What I say goes. You got that?” Bakugou asked Kirishima.
Kirishima nodded.
Bakugou raised his eyebrow to show he was expecting more. He had just gone over this and wasn’t about to repeat himself. He wasn’t satisfied without verbal consent.
Kirishima quickly caught on to Bakugous verbal cue and began to clear his throat.
“Yes. I understand, sir.” replied Kirishima, quickly falling into the role he was playing tonight.
“The little shit” Bakugou thought to himself. He walked over to a chair that was placed in front of the bed and sat down. He motioned for you and Kirishima to come to the edge of the bed.
“Alright. Now that everything’s established, looks like were good to begin. “
Bakugou reclined in his seat and began to unbuckle his pants.
“Showtime. You two can start kissing” said Bakugou, enjoying his front row seat.

Day 10: Dukexiety
@tsshipmonth2020
Day 10: You are born with a birthmark, similar to a tattoo, that is shared by your soulmate.
Content warnings: allusions to past suicidal thoughts, just bad mental health past in general, vague bullying, swimming pools, past isolation, minor injury (broken ribs), general anxiety and self deprecation.
Word count: 3.9k
I was very low on time, and very exhausted from work, so I tried something new! I first discovered the concept of ‘bullet fics’ from @illogicallyinclined ‘s hockey au, GO CHECK IT OUT!!! (It’s living in my head rent free for a couple months now)
Virgil, Patton, Logan, and Roman have been friends for as long as they can remember. The first three met at a neighborhood barbecue when they were just a couple years old, and since they all live on the same block, became each other’s go to play buddies. They all stuck together in their first years of school together, the unbreakable trio, and then they met Roman. Or, Roman was pulled into their clutches and was therefore part of the group now. Patton saw him getting bullied across the playground and ran in to help, and now Roman is ‘eternally in their debt’. But they like him, so his extravagance is okay.
They hung out constantly, all throughout middle and highschool, and they graduated together. It was a big moment for all of them; Patton, who almost got left a grade behind several times (his dyslexia went undiagnosed for several years and he was simply categorized as ‘dumb’), Virgil, who almost didn’t make it due to a mental health crisis, Logan, who was pressured heavily by his parents to move up a grade and had to fight tooth and nail to stay with his friends, and Roman, who’s bullying problems didn’t exactly lessen through the years, and was more than relieved to be leaving that behind.
That summer, they pledge (mostly by Roman’s pleading) to try and do something fun every day. While Logan says this is improbable and Virgil groans at the thought of spending every day socializing, Patton is excited for the idea and “it’s two against two so you have to at least try!”
“That logic doesn’t make sense-” “Shut it, teach, just let us have this.”
So far, they’ve gone to the amusement park just out of town, gone to the park too many times to count, visited their local arcade that they hadn’t even stepped foot into since middle school, and tie-dyed a variety of clothing items in Patton’s backyard. Today, Patton is forcing them all to go to the pool, despite Logan claiming that they’re “feces infested, germ nesting grounds” and Virgil’s argument that “he burns like an unwatched pot of milk, how can you expect this from me”, Patton’s little puppy eyes do them all in.
Unfortunately, just as they’re leaving for the pool, Roman gets a call. At first it’s civil, and then his voice raises, and then he’s hanging up and throwing his phone onto his seat from where he’s standing next to the open car door. Angrily, he tells his friends that his mom got called into work and his dad’s on a business trip, so they need to take his brother with them.
At first, this raises some confusion.
“I was not under the impression that you had a little brother.”
“How old is he? Either way, I say, the more the merrier!”
Virgil is not thrilled at the idea of babysitting, since kids generally don’t like him, but he doesn’t voice his displeasure.
Roman has to admit, with much embarrassment, that it’s actually his twin, who is just so chaotically irresponsible that he has lost Home Alone Privileges. He’s broken the TV, accidentally started fires, and lost their dog one too many times and his parents said no more.
So he drives all the way back to his house, the three friends crammed into the back seat of his two door sedan (because the seats are A Pain to raise and lower and it makes more sense to give said brother the front seat instead of rearranging when they get him), grumbling under his breath about his stupid brother, stupid work, stupid stupid stupid-
Virgil is apt to agree with him, because if being around his three closest friends is enough interaction to mentally exhaust him, adding a new person to the mess is so much worse. He’s generally unexcited to meet this new person… until they pull up to the driveway.
And holy heck.
This man is GORGEOUS.
It takes a second for him to realize it’s Roman’s brother, because despite his first assumption, the two are not identical. They’re very similar, obviously related, for sure, but they are surprisingly easy to tell apart, and it’s not just because of the silver streak in the brother’s hair.
Which he should not find as hot as he does.
After Roman insists said brother does need to go get a bathing suit and no you can not go swimming in your jeans, he jumps into the passenger seat and, with as much energy as Roman has at Full Potential, introduces himself as Remus to the backseat audience.
Patton and Logan both say small hello’s, but Virgil is just stuck.
Dear lord. Princey, why have you been hiding him from me?
When they get to the pool, Virgil makes a complete fool of himself getting out of the car. He trips on his seatbelt, landing directly in Remus’ arms, and looks up to see this devil man grinning at him with all the hubris of a greek god. Before he can say anything, Virgil pushes himself up and rolls his eyes (all while internally screaming) and walks away, joining Patton and Logan where they are just entering the main gate.
He can’t help it; when in proximity of cuteness, his emergency mode is “be a dick”.
But it only gets worse from there.
When Virgil has an umbrella properly set up above a chair so he can save his skin from the sun (“I burn like unwatched milk on a stove. I’m not going in.”) and is comfortably situated with his phone and iced coffee, Remus steps in front of him to take his shirt off.
He’s pretty sure Remus didn’t even mean to. It just… happened to be directly in his line of sight.
As soon as the shirt is above his head, Virgil chokes on his drink, squirting iced coffee out of his nose and going into a coughing fit. Patton rubs his back while Roman tries not to laugh (and fails miserably), all while Remus is just watching him. Confused. (Logan is in the change rooms, because he insists on not wearing his bathing suit unless he is actively about to swim)
There’s more than just the sun issue that prevents Virgil from swimming. While his friend’s soulmarks are relatively small (Roman has a little one on his neck, Logan and Patton have a shared one just above their ankles), Virgil’s is a huge splotch that covers his entire side, reaching from just above his top rib to where his waistband usually lies. It’s all squiggles and lumps; Virgil once compared it to a storm cloud, but the lightning streaks were tentacles. It’s all in all, just… A Mess. And he doesn’t really like it. No one he’s ever met has had a soulmark like that, and he hates standing out.
When Remus takes off his shirt, in all his muscled glory, Virgil can’t miss the matching soulmark that trails down Remus’ side. It’s his, no doubt about it, but… that can’t be right, can it? Remus is so… full of life, dangerous, the epitome of chaotic; he’s everything Virgil is not. More so, he’s terrified of what Remus must think of him. He’s nothing special, he’s just an anxious ball of angst. What if he’s disappointed in who the universe decided to stick him with?
After he’s done choking on iced coffee, and Logan is back from the change room, he realizes Remus is long gone, in the deep end of the pool trying to gather as many foam noodles as he can. They check that Virgil is alright, and when he merely gives them a shaky thumbs up, they take it at face value and dive in. Except Logan, who uses the steps like a mature adult, you children.
He lets the rest of his coffee sit in the sun, until the sun melts all the ice cubes and it’s lukewarm to touch and overall, just gross, because suddenly he has no appetite. Yeah, this guy is gorgeous and he’s hopelessly gay for him, but... soulmate? That’s a lot for anyone to take in, much less someone with forty seven different kinds of anxiety. /j
If Virgil was uneasy taking his shirt off before, he sure as hell isn’t doing it now. No matter how much Patton and Roman plead with him, he stays glued to his chair, eyes flickering from his friends playing Marco Polo to watching his soulmate Remus. He’s turned the pool noodles into a giant raft and is trying to balance on it, like an absolute idiot.
An extremely good looking idiot.
Virgil can’t help but notice that… he’s all alone. Roman, Patton, and Logan barely even throw him the occasional glance, much less invite him to hang out with them in the water. Worse than that, he seems relatively fine with it. It could just be that he doesn’t want to intrude on his brother’s friend group, but Remus doesn’t seem like the kind of guy to have those boundaries. Which kind of insinuates that he’s used to being alone, and Virgil can’t help but empathize.
He notices it a lot, actually. The group meeting Remus also coincides with Roman and Virgil becoming more close; less of a frenemy relationship, and more of an actual friendship. Patton is delighted, because this means the three of them get to hang out at Roman’s huge place more often without their constant bickering (because when it got bad at one of their houses, Virgil’s was never more than a ten minute walk away when Roman finally pushed his last button. Here, they were all stuck.)
And every time they go over, he can’t help but notice the loud music coming from Remus’ room, or the man just sitting on the couch watching TV (which he tends to do shirtless, which does not help Virgil at all), or irritating Roman’s parrot. All in all, doing things alone. It strikes a chord in Virgil’s heart, which is something he’d never admit to another person.
Maybe that’s why, in the following week when Roman has the grand idea to go on a mountain hike, Virgil quietly asks if they could invite Remus. At first, Roman is adamant. “He’ll just ruin things, he doesn’t appreciate nature, he’s annoying!” But Patton claims “The more the merrier” and Logan doesn’t have any particular stance, so he begrudgingly invites Remus.
Who very excitedly accepts.
The trail Roman visited is quite a ways out of town, so they cram back into his tiny car and start the drive. Patton claimed shotgun, so him and Roman have derailed into an animated conversation about cartoons, while Logan just pops in his earbuds and leans his head against the window. For the longest time, Remus and Virgil sit in awkward silence, because neither of them could get a word in edgewise to the front seat conversation even if they tried, and they don’t… really… know what to say… to each other.
It’s Remus who finally breaks the silence (shocker).
“Roman tells more you’re the one who wanted to invite me.”
“Yeah, well, you seemed lonely. And… I mean, you’re Roman’s brother. Can you really be that bad?”
He means it as a joke, but he sees the light in Remus’ eyes die slightly. The tone of his voice doesn’t falter though, remaining as joyful and quirky as always.
“I’m a lot more fun than Roman. People just don’t like to see it that way.”
“Setting your kitchen curtains on fire is fun?”
“If you were there, you’d understand!”
And they keep talking, maybe trailing into borderline flirting, for the whole ride. Virgil is surprised at the lack of tenseness in his shoulders, because though Remus is loud and a little unsettling, he is incredibly patient when Virgil has trouble forming his sentences and doesn’t interrupt him when he’s talking; an incredible help to someone with crippling anxiety. Underneath his exterior, he’s actually… incredibly soft? What?
By the time they pull up to the trail, Remus is actually starting to grow on Virgil. Since Patton and Roman are still so into their debate, and Logan seems content listening to his music (or podcast, but who really knows), they continue talking as the hike starts. The shorter boy can’t help but glance at the other every few seconds, seeing their soulmark just peeking past the edge of his baggy tank top. If Remus notices, he says nothing.
And he learns Remus was bullied a lot through school, just like Roman was, but instead of finding a group that supported him, he broke off as a lone wolf. He came off scary or maybe just a little bit crazy to anyone he tried to befriend, since his social skills were pretty lacking due to disuse and his incredible lack of filter, so he learned early that staying alone hurt less. And in that time, he just became more and more… Like That… because he literally never had peers to mature with.
The hike is a long one. Remus is pretty eager to spill his guts, probably since he was never able to before, so Virgil feels obligated to do the same. He tells Remus about his anxiety, about his mental health issues during school, about his home life and his hobbies, and the fact that there are more people around just fades into the background. It could as well be just them, and Virgil starts to wish it was.
So of course, that’s when everything goes to shit.
A mountain biker comes ripping down the path, too quick to even process, and Virgil is caught off guard. Of course, he’s not walking near the edge of the path, because he has some shred of common sense, but the bike speeding by him causes him to flinch and stumble to the side; an instinctual reaction. Except his instincts decided to not remember until the last second that he’s at the edge of the trail.
It’s almost like happening in slow motion, his foot goes over the edge, and he doesn’t realize what’s about to happen until his other foot is already off the ground, ready to take that next step back, and he’s falling. Luckily (as lucky as one can be in this situation), it’s not a straight drop, just a decently long, steep slope that’s essentially just a bunch of rocks and weeds.
He hears his friends scream his name, sees a hand fly out to catch him, and it just snags the edge of his jacket before he’s freefalling for a split moment. One heart stopping, never ending, eternal and all too short moment of weightlessness where he twists his body, hoping to try and brace himself, and then he meets the slope.
Hard.
His breath leaves him in a wheeze and he distinctly hears a loud snap. Through his pain addled brain, he tries to stop his slide further down by grabbing anything; rocks, roots, dirt. It’s useless.
He stops naturally, on a small ledge several meters from the top before the slope continues. For a moment, he can only lay there, trying to breathe through the intense pain flaring through him pretty much everywhere, not to mention the sheer levels of pure panic numbing his thoughts. He stares at the clouds, watching them as they float by, each breath spreading fire through his torso but at the same time strangely numb.
And then, “VIRGIL!”
His eyes shoot open (wait, when did he close them?) to see Remus’ concerned face above his. If the messied state of his outfit is any indication, this man just slid down the slope to catch up to him. His hands are hovering above Virgil, scared to touch, but more scared that Virgil is going to keep falling.
“Fuck,” is Virgil’s eloquent response. He tries to take a deep breath, tries to do his breathing pattern to calm his nerves, but NOPE. Wrong move.
He immediately gasps and his hands fly to his ribs, another flair of pain shooting up them. Remus’ hands grab his, pulling them away from his torso, holding them securely. “I think you have some broken ribs. That was… one hell of a fall. We need to get you back up to the trail though, okay?”
Virgil can only nod his head, allowing Remus to help him stand, biting his lip so hard to keep from crying out that his lip splits. It hurts.
Trust Logan to come up with ideas on the fly. The biker must have stopped when he realized Virgil had fallen (at least he didn’t just keep driving), because when Virgil opened his tear filled eyes, there was a bike tire just a few feet from his face. He followed the frame of the bike, up to where Roman was holding the other wheel and standing precariously on the slope. Logan is clinging onto his hand, one foot on the slope and one on the actual trail, and if Virgil has to guess, the biker and Patton are just out of sight, keeping Logan steady.
Virgil knows it’s going to hurt before Remus even warns him that it will, watching the taller man get a good grip on the bike wheel, before holding Virgil’s wrist with as much force that can muster without actively cutting off circulation. Virgil holds onto his wrist in return, Remus gives a shout to go ahead, and the human/bike chain they’ve created begins to pull them up.
And oh lord, if Virgil thought just laying down was painful, tripping and stumbling up a steep incline is another world altogether. This time, biting his lip doesn’t work and he lets out a few muffled cries as the team works together, Remus squeezing his wrist every time a choked sound escapes his lips, mind too full of pure agony to even curse.
When they finally step foot onto the trail again, Virgil is in tears, and he is too far gone to even care. The biker is incredibly apologetic, offering his contact information and bidding them adieu when they insist that they’re okay now, and takes off, at an admittedly much slower pace than he was at before.
Logan, the only one of them with proper (and extensive) first aid training, forces Virgil to sit, giving him time to find a position that puts as little pressure on his ribs as possible, before crouching in front of him.
“Let me check if they’re broken.”
His hand reaches out towards Virgil’s shirt and all the alarm bells start BLARING. No. No, no, no, no, no. Before he can restrain himself, he reaches out and slaps Logan’s hand away, sending another wave of pain through him. The pain doesn’t matter though, not in comparison to Logan possibly revealing his soulmark.
Logan doesn’t understand this reaction properly (when does he ever), so he tries again.
“Virgil, I need to check the extent of the damage. A cracked rib means you can still make it back to the car. A broken rib would require emergency services and probable air lifting to prevent further damage, like a punctured lung.”
“Fine,” Virgil hisses through clenched teeth, bitterly understanding his logic, “Just… don’t take the shirt off.”
He tries to say it to only Logan, but it’s clear the other’s heard it by the way they exchange confused glances. Yes, they’ve never seen Virgil without a shirt, except they’d always pegged that up to insecurities. Wouldn’t those take a back seat in a possible medical emergency?
Logan complies, however, and slides his hand under the hem of his shirt without moving the fabric. He runs his hands slowly up each rib, concentrating heavily, until he reaches one midway up and Virgil yelps, instinctively flinching backwards.
Startled by the reaction (it’s his first time actually administering first aid like this, give him a break), Logan jumps back, forgetting his hand is still under Virgil’s shirt.
His hand moves up.
Virgil moves back.
And the hem of his shirt rises up his chest for just a moment.
A moment’s all that’s needed, though. When you notice something that you’ve seen yourself a hundred times over, admiring this way and that in the mirror to commit it to memory, it only takes a glance to recognize it.
Remus only needed that split second of the shirt riding up to notice the lower half of the soulmark, and he definitely did notice it, if the way his jaw drops is anything to go off of. Virgil winces again, not from pain this time, and looks down at his shoes, abhorring the awkward silence that ensues.
The other three don’t understand, watching the two of them with varying levels of confusion, until Remus blurts:
“Are you my soulmate?”
And everything clicks into place. Virgil nods mutely, still not looking up, afraid of his reaction. Would he be upset Virgil kept it a secret? Would he be disappointed? Would he would he would he-
“Oh thank GOD!”
That’s… not the reaction he was expecting. He looks up to see Remus grinning like a child on their birthday, bouncing on the balls of his feet.
“I mean, if I’d want anyone to be my soulmate, it would be you! You don’t hate me, which a lot of people do, and you actually listen to me, which is nice, and not to mention you’re super hot, like the whole emo thing is just-”
“Remus!” Roman screeches, cutting him off, “You’re embarrassing him, let him breathe!”
It’s the first time Roman has ever come to Virgil’s defense, and he’s only vaguely happy about that. Truth is, he’s so much more wrapped up in the fact that Remus is actually happy that he doesn’t even notice Logan’s back to touching his ribs until another sharp pain brings him back.
“They’re definitely not broken. Fractured, at worst. Either way, you’re going to the hospital. Only question is, can you get down to the car?”
Virgil wants to nod, wants to go along with no problem, but he can barely take a step before his knees almost give out. If he could double over without making everything worse, he would.
Remus doesn’t see this as a problem, though, eagerly offering Virgil to ride on his back until they get to the bottom. The shorter is, obviously, reluctant to this plan, seeing as how it’s a decently long trail and he isn’t that light, but damn, his soulmate insists, and next thing he knows, he’s gingerly holding onto Remus’ shoulders as he pushes back into a standing position.
(If he wasn’t already super hot, he’s strong, too? Virgil has struck the literal jackpot.)
He buries his face into the crook of Remus’ neck, trying not to wince at every jolt and bump as they maneuver their way down the hill, all conversation halted so they can focus on the two of them. Roman walks in front of them and Patton and Logan behind, ready to jump into action at any sign of stumbling.
But it’s okay, it actually is, Virgil realizes as they’re making their way down the hill. Sure, they only really bonded today, but they also bonded in a day, and if that’s not telling of the future they’ll have together, whether romantic or platonic (they still need to talk that out), it’s gonna be okay.
Anyone who’s willing to throw themselves into harm's way and carry you down a mountain has got to be a worthy soulmate.

#14: Ao Kuang, Dragon King of the Eastern Seas
Tumblr media
Gods and Goddesses!
We return from our journey, to once again bring divinity to your D&D game! We take our first look into the Chinese pantheon, with the Great Dragon King – Ao Kuang! This violent dragon, associated with storms and seas, may be known to some of you Journey to the West readers as the one from whom Sun Wukong received the Ruyi Jingu Bang (aka Power Pole, for you Dragon Ball weebs ;D). In SMITE, Ao Kuang is a melee mage, so let's see what we can do!
Next Time: Hey, Tumblr staff, please don't ban me. I swear there is a reason she's almost naked!
So, what do we need to play as the world's most dangerous wet noodle?
A MIGHTY SWORD: Ao Kuang is a melee fighter with magical powers and a sword that channels electricity and summons dragons to fight on his behalf.
Water Illusionist: As the dragon of storms and seas, we need to command those particular forces of nature. Ao Kuang also has the ability to set decoys and disappear from sight.
A GIANT F**K-YOU DRAGON: Ao Kuang's Ultimate lets him transform into his draconic form and rain death from above. I'll tell you right away, we won't be able to transform fully into a dragon, but we'll get the very best close second.
---
When it comes to Ao Kuang's race, I don't see any other option than Dragonborn. More specifically, we're going to use the 2021 Draconic Options Unearthed Arcana and play as a Metallic Dragonborn. We get to choose two of our abilities to boost (+2 Charisma and +1 Dexterity), and also pick our Metallic Ancestry; although the Dragon Form in the picture above is shown as green, we're going with Bronze ancestry for its Lightning damage type. We also get a Breath Weapon, a dragon standard. We can replace our melee or spell attack with a 15-foot cone of energy burst. Each creature within the cone must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + our Constitution modifier + our proficiency bonus), or take 2d8 lightning damage (half damage on a successful save; damage increases as we level up).
Tumblr media
Metallic Dragonborns also get Draconic Resilience, which grants us resistance to damage type associated with our draconic ancestry, in this case, lightning. We also know Common and one language of our choice (most likely Draconic).
The regal and powerful Ao Kuang is definitely a Noble. We gain proficiency in History and Persuasion, one type of gaming set, and we learn one more language of our choice. The Position of Privilege feature grants us enough clout to walk around like we own whatever place we're in... because we probably do. It lets us secure an audience with another noble, better accommodation than others, or perhaps convince locals to fight on your behalf.
ABILITY SCORES
We'll start with Dexterity, as it's going to be our primary damage-dealing ability. We're flowing like a river, but striking swiftly like a lightning. Charisma is next, we've gained our title of the Dragon King by being intimidating as all hells and by keeping our subjects' loyalty (spoiler alert, it's also going to be our spellcasting ability). Follow that up with Constitution, we're a dragon, we need to be tough enough.
Wisdom is next, once again - we're a dragon and we're Chinese - we're practically the epitome of that trait. Strength is a little lower than I would like it, but it's fixable. Finally, we'll dump Intelligence; we're not stupid, we just need other abilities more.
CLASS
This one was another tough one. Ao Kuang is a swordsman primarily, but there are several high-level spells that fit his style and abilities. I think I've arrived at a satisfying conclusion, though, so sit back and enjoy the ride:
Level 1 - Fighter: We begin as the generic damage-dealer. Starting with a d10 Hit Dice, [10 + Constitution modifier] initial Hit Points, and proficiency with light armour, medium armour, heavy armour, shields, simple weapons, and martial weapons (I suggest going with a shortsword, because of its Finesse property). Our saving throws are Strength and Constitution, and we get to pick two class skills (Intimidation and Athletics).
Fighters begin by choosing their Fighting Style. Since Ao Kuang uses just a sword and no shield, Duelling is the style we're going to go with; while wielding a weapon in one hand and no other weapon, we gain a +2 to damage rolls with that weapon. We also get Second Wind, which lets us recover [1d10 + our Fighter level] Hit Points as a bonus action once per short or long rest.
Tumblr media
Level 2 - Fighter: Starting at this level, we get Action Surge. It lets us take one additional action on our turn once per short or long rest. The number of extra actions we can take increases as we level up.
Level 3 - Fighter: We get a secondary racial ability, the Metallic Breath Weapon. Similarly to the other one, it covers a 15-foot cone, but this time we exhale a magical gas (Save DC = 8 + our Constitution modifier + our proficiency bonus). We get to choose one of two effects:
Each affected creature must make a Strength saving throw or be pushed back 20 feet from us, and be knocked prone;
Each creature in the cone must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or be incapacitated until the end of our next turn.
At this level, we also get to pick our subclass - our Martial Archetype. Now, I decided to go with Matt Mercer's Echo Knight to at least get the taste of Ao Kuang's duplicate ability (since we won't get access to the Mislead spell). Simply re-flavour the 'summoning yourself from another timeline' into 'creating water & vapour illusions' and we're good to go.
Echo Knight's signature ability is Manifest Echo. We summon one magical, translucent shade of ourselves that lasts until it is destroyed/we dismiss it/we're incapacitated. Our Echo has the AC of [14 + our proficiency bonus], 1 Hit Point, and is immune to all conditions. During our turn, we can move our Echo up to 30 feet in any direction (any further distance destroys it). We can use our Echo in the following ways:
As a bonus action, we can swap places with our Echo, at a cost of 15 feet of movement, no matter the distance between us;
When we take the Attack action, it can come from our Echo's space, essentially giving us 30 feet reach for our attacks;
If a creature that's within 5 feet of our Echo moves out of its melee range, we can make the attack of opportunity against it.
We also get Unleash Incarnation. When we take the Attack action, we can make one additional attack from our Echo's position. We can use this feature a number of times equal to our Constitution modifier.
Level 4 - Fighter: Time for our first Ability Score Improvement. We're not going to raise any numbers, however. Instead, we'll take the Dragon Hide feat from Xanathar's Guide to Everything. As we manifest draconic scales on our body, we get to increase one of three abilities (let's make it Constitution), and our AC while not wearing any armour becomes [13 + our Dexterity modifier]. We also gain a natural weapon in the form of our long dragon claws; we can use those to make an unarmed strike that deals [1d4 + our Strength modifier] bludgeoning damage.
Level 5 - Fighter: We gain Extra Attack. This lets us attack twice instead of once during one Attack action.
Tumblr media
Level 6 - Sorcerer: Time to mess with some magic. In-game, Ao Kuang is not a ranged caster, so all the spells we choose here will be more in the support category. Sorcerers start with picking their subclass, their Sorcerous Origin. Since we are the Dragon King, it's only natural to pick Draconic. Sike. We're the storm lord, we're going with Storm Sorcery from Xanathar's Guide to Everything.
The Wind Speaker feature teaches us how to speak and read Primordial, the language of elementals. Tempestuous Magic gives us a flying speed of 10 feet, any time we cast a spell of 1st-level or higher. If we use this flight to escape the enemy, we do not provoke attacks of opportunity.
Sorcerers are creatures with the innate ability to control magic, therefore they start with the Spellcasting feature and know both standard spells and cantrips. We start with four cantrips:
Blade Ward gives us resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage until the end of our next turn;
Minor Illusion creates a sound or an image within 30 feet of us and lasts for 1 minute. The image cannot be interacted with, and a successful Investigation check reveals the illusion.
Shape Water grants us control over a 5-foot cube area of water within 30 feet of us. We can choose from several different effects: we can change the water's flow, create small shapes on its surface, change the water's colour and opacity, or freeze it for 1 hour.
Shocking Grasp sends a jolt of electricity into one target we touch. On a successful melee attack (we get an advantage if the target's wearing metal), the enemy suffers 1d8 lightning damage (damage increases as we level us) and cannot take reactions until the start of its next turn.
Tumblr media
We start with two 1st-level spell slots, and we know two 1st-level spells:
Fog Cloud creates a 20-foot-radius sphere of dense mist within 120 feet for 1 hour (concentration). The fogged area is considered heavily obscured, effectively blinding all creatures within.
Shield can be used as a reaction to when we're being hit. Until the start of our next turn, we get a +5 bonus to our AC.
Level 7 - Sorcerer: We gain the Sorcerer's signature ability, Font of Magic. We get access to Sorcery Points (currently 2), which can be spent on our Metamagic abilities or to create spell slots. We also gain another spell slot, and we learn one more 1st-level spell: Feather Fall greatly decreases the falling speed for us and up to five falling creatures within 60 feet for 1 minute. If we reach the ground before the spell ends, we take no fall damage.
Level 8 - Sorcerer: We unlock the previously mentioned Metamagic. This allows us to burn Sorcery Points, in order to modify our spells in a variety of ways. We learn two Metamagic options from the start:
Quickened Spell: Spending 2 Sorcery Points lets us change the spell's casting time from Action to Bonus Action;
Subtle Spell: Spending 2 Sorcery Points lets us cast a spell without using verbal or somatic components.
At this level, we unlock 2nd-level spell slots and can learn one more spell: Magic Weapon gives our weapon magical properties for 1 hour (concentration), for the purpose of overcoming resistances. It also gains a +1 to both attack and damage rolls.
Level 9 - Sorcerer: We get another ASI. Let's raise our Dexterity by 2 points, to get some better AC.
We also get another cantrip: Frostbite causes numbing frost to appear on one target within 60 feet of us. The enemy must make a Constitution saving throw or take 1d6 cold damage (damage increases as we level up) and the next weapon attack roll they make before the end of its next turn is made with a disadvantage.
We learn another spell: Warding Wind creates a 10-foot-radius sphere of strong, howling wind centred on us and moving along with us. The wind lasts for 10 minutes (concentration) and has the following effects:
It deafens us and all creatures within;
It extinguished any unprotected flames;
It hedges out vapours, gases, and fogs;
The area becomes difficult terrain for creatures other than us;
The attack rolls of ranged weapons coming in or out of the wind are made with a disadvantage.
Tumblr media
Level 10 - Sorcerer: Halfway through the build, and we unlock 3rd-level spell slots. One more spell enters our repertoire:
Tidal Wave creates a rolling mass of water that crashes down on an area within range (120 feet). The area can be up to 30 feet long, 10 feet wide, and 10 feet tall. Each creature in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw or take 4d8 bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone (half damage on a successful save and no knockdown).
Level 11 - Sorcerer: We get our Storm Sorcery upgrades. Heart of the Storm gives us resistance to lightning and thunder damage. In addition, whenever we cast a spell that deals lightning or thunder damage, storm magic erupts within 10 feet of us, dealing [half of our Sorcerer level] either lightning or thunder damage to all creatures of our choice within range.
Storm Guide gives us the ability to subtly influence the weather around us. If it's raining, we can use a bonus action to stop the rainfall in a 20-foot-radius sphere. If it's windy, we can use a bonus action to change the direction of the wind within a 100-foot-radius sphere.
For this level's spell, Lightning Bolt creates a stroke of lightning blasting in a 100 feet long and 5 feet wide line. Each creature in the line must make a Dexterity saving throw or take 8d6 lightning damage (half damage on a successful save). The lightning ignites any flammable objects.
Level 12 - Sorcerer: We unlock 4th-level spell slots here and gain one more spell:
Greater Invisibility renders our body (along with clothes and weaponry) completely imperceptible for 1 minute (concentration). Unlike regular Invisibility, this ability does not end when we attack with weapons.
Tumblr media
Level 13 - Sorcerer: We get another ASI here. Let's get +2 to our Constitution for better Hit Points and our racial abilities.
For this level's spell, Dimension Door lets us teleport to a spot within 500 feet of us. It can be a place we can see or visualize. We can also bring objects with us or one willing creature. If we were to arrive at a spot already occupied by a creature or an object, we take 4d6 force damage and the spell doesn't teleport us.
Level 14 - Sorcerer: We unlock 5th-level spells, and we can finally take the one spell I've been waiting for:
Summon Draconic Spirit lets us call forth a spirit that takes the form of a giant f**k-you dragon! For 1 hour (concentration) a Large dragon spirit appears in an unoccupied space within 60 feet of us and obeys our commands. This is the best we can get to portray Ao Kuang's Ultimate ability.
Level 15 - Fighter: Having obtained our dragon summon, we can come back to swinging our Mighty Sword! And we return to an ASI! Let's get a +2 to our Strength score.
Level 16 - Fighter: We get our Echo Knight upgrade. We can temporarily see and hear through our Echo's eyes and ears thanks to Echo Avatar. We can use this ability for 10 minutes and during this time we can move our Echo up to 1,000 feet from us without it being destroyed.
Level 17 - Fighter: We get another ASI. Let's get a +2 to our Intelligence to avoid negative modifiers in our sheet.
Level 18 - Fighter: We gain the Indomitable feature. Once per long rest, we can reroll a failed saving throw, but we must use the new result even if it's worse than the original one.
Level 19 - Fighter: We get our final subclass upgrade, the Shadow Martyr feature. Once per short or long rest, we can make our Echo protect another creature by sacrificing itself. Before the attack roll is made, we can use a reaction to move the Echo in front of the targeted creature. The triggered attack roll is then made against our Echo instead.
Level 20 - Fighter: Our capstone is Fighter 11, which gives us an upgrade to our Extra Attack feature. We can now attack three times whenever we take the Attack action.
---
And that is Ao Kuang, the Dragon King of the Eastern Seas. Let's see how well we've portrayed him:
I gotta be honest with you guys, I'm pretty proud of this build. I might have to pat myself on the back for this one. We have a very nice combination of sword and sorcery, with draconic flavour and good survivability. We have an Unarmoured AC of 17 (going up to 22 with the Shield spell), +4 to our Initiative rolls, and 148 Hit Points on average. None of our abilities reaches 20, but we don't suffer from negative modifiers so I consider that an absolute win. The only downside I can see is, we have very few skills and only two related to an ability we're good at.
Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed this one, and I'll see you for the next one!
- Nerdy out!

The Final Problem
Tumblr media
Sometimes you questioned why you couldn’t have dated someone more ordinary.
You were especially questioning this now and you, John and Sherlock were being held hostage by Sherlock’s forgotten and psychotic sister, on a secret prison that Mycroft Holmes had so tenderly described as the epitome of hell. You didn’t know what was worse, the fact that no one knew you were missing and even if they did figure it out, they’d no idea on how to find you, or the fact that you were at the mercy of Eurus who was revealed to have an alliance with Jim Moriarty.
Sherlock had tried to assure you that everything would be okay. He would find a way out, he always did. But you could see through his fake smile and hopeful words. You knew that he was just as anxious as you were.
You were going to sarcastically ask about his brilliant plan when a voice filled the room.
“Hello? Is anybody there? I’m stuck on a plane. Everyone’s asleep. Please help me,” a small child’s voice filled the speakers.
“Hi, can you hear me? I’m here. I can help you, just tell me your name,” Sherlock answered softly.
“Mommy told me not to tell my name to strangers,” she replied, fear evident in her voice.
“Oh, that’s alright. I’ll just tell you mine then. I’m Sherlock and my friends and I are here to help you,”
“I’m scared,” she informed.
“It’s okay, I’m-” he started before the call clicked off.
Eurus spoke up, “That’s better.”
Sherlock snapped, “Put her back on, let me help her.”
“Not so fast brother mine, you have to play along if you want phone privileges,”
“Play along?” you asked.
“Yes, I have developed a series of tasks for the three of you to complete. Each one testing your morality and character. And believe me when I say that time is of the essence,”
The three of you had no choice, not when lives were at stake. You proceeded into the room the Eurus had revealed.
First, Sherlock was made to choose between you or John to kill an innocent man. The incentive? If you did not, his wife would be killed. John protested, but Eurus reminded him that your only chance for survival was to play along. Sherlock took the gun from the hatch and thought it over briefly before handing the gun to John. His logic is that John was a soldier, he had killed before and was better equipped to handle the emotional kickback of it. John nodded in agreement as the man pleaded with him to do it. John asked him if he wanted to pray, and assured him that he was doing a truly honorable thing.
He aimed the gun and prepared to shoot, but at the end of the day he just couldn’t bring himself to do it. So the man took the gun from him and waved it around frantically before shooting himself, hoping that would be enough, but either way he wouldn’t have to watch his wife die. You looked away and John cursed. Sherlock waited, curious about what his sister’s next move would be.
Eurus was bored by the reaction and didn’t hesitate to shoot the wife
“Why? Why’d you do that?” John demanded.
“You didn’t follow the rules. The condition of her survival was that you or Y/n had to shoot her husband. You chose to save your conscience and now the blood of two people is on your hands,” Eurus answered.
“Now then, off you go to the next room, and Sherlock collect the gun, you will need it later on” she said as one of the doors opened.
“On the table you will find a file with three pictures. One of the men murdered someone with the gun that is hanging up. Figure out who the murderer is and condemn him to his fate,” Eurus instructed.
“Oh and to add some suspense-” she said clicking on the tv in the room that contained a video of Moriarty making ticking noises.
“Okay,” Sherlock muttered before taking in every aspect of the photos, quickly eliminating one of the three brothers.
Eurus then spoke up, “At this point I would like to add some emotional context.” She then opened the blinds to show the three brothers each chained to chairs over the side of the ocean. “You have one minute Sherlock.”
“John, tell me everything that you can about this gun,” Sherlock ordered.
John listed off facts and that was when Sherlock realized who the killer was. Everyone was relieved when Eurus revealed that he had correctly chosen. She then forced him to condemn the man to his fate. Sherlock struggled momentarily, then remembered the little girl and the plane, easing his conscience with what he had to do next. He said the words and condemned the man to his death, but instead of dropping him, Eurus proceeded to drop the two innocent men.
Sherlock protested and she responded by dropping the guilty man as well. “You see Sherlock a life does not weigh more considering guilt or innocence,”
“Fine, whatever, I played along Eurus, now let me speak to the little girl,” Sherlock requested.
“Fair enough,”
“Hello? Can you hear me?” Sherlock questioned.
“Yes, I can, you went away,”
“I’m sorry about that, can you tell me where you are?”
“I-I don’t know”
“What about the plane? Is it big or small?“
“It’s big,”
“Okay, now,  just do me a favor and look out the window. Is it day time or night time?”
“It’s nighttime,”
“What can you see? Is there land or water?”
“There’s water, with lights in the distance,”
“Very good, now are you sure that there is no one to help you? Have you really really checked?”
“Yes, everyone’s asleep,”
Before he could continue, the call clicked off, and Eurus spoke, “Okay you three off to the next one, it’s time for John and Y/n to have a turn.”
A door opened and as the three of you walked through you saw a small table with six glasses on it and a bottle in the middle.
“What is this?” John asked.
“It’s spin the bottle with higher stakes,” Eurus replied.
“And what are the rules?” you asked.
“You and John take turns spinning from the bottle, drinking from the glasses. One of them is poisoned. Also, Sherlock is not allowed to touch any of them. If you refuse, he dies. If he intervenes you both will die,”
“So we’re basically playing roulette,” John realized.
“Yes, but we have no choice, I’ll go first,” you answered, taking a step forward and spinning the bottle. You hesitated to take the glass it landed on and downed the contents reluctantly. Sherlock and John looked at you with concern.
“I think I’m fine,” you said, smiling fakely.
John stepped up next and spun the bottle, repeating the process, and also coming out seemingly fine.
You stepped up again, knowing that there was now a 25% chance that you would receive the poison.
“Sherlock, I-”
“No talking, just spin the bottle,” Eurus interrupted.
But one look at Sherlock told you that he knew and that he loved you too. You spun the bottle and emptied the glass, not feeling any different.
“I’m fine,”
John spun the bottle, and downed the contents of the glass.
“I’m okay,” he spoke.
There were now only two left. You could feel Sherlock’s anxiety as you picked up the glass, a fifty fifty shot of it being the one that had been poisoned. You closed your eyes and paused for a moment before downing it. The realization that you were fine came with little relief.
John’s expression went blank when he realized what this meant.
“That-That’s okay. We’ve had a good run. Sherlock, you were the best man I’ve ever-” he started but was cut short as he saw you reach across the table and grab the glass downing it without a second thought.
“What? Why would you do that?” he yelled.
“You have a daughter. And Eurus don’t you dare retaliate because I followed the rules, and vagueness always falls to the side of the informed,”
“Remarkable Y/n, you’ve proven your loyalty,” Eurus said.
Sherlock came to your side and pulled you into a hug both waiting for the worse. Then he realized that for something that was ingestable and rapid-acting, you’d already be dead.
“So, none of the drinks were poisoned? Otherwise, she’d already been dead,” he deducted
“On the contrary, dear brother mine, all of the glasses were poisoned. It’s slow-acting, and the only way to get the antidote is to finish the trials and come find me. Even then, they might not make it.”
“Wait,” you said as Sherlock and John were already to the next door.
“We played along, let Sherlock speak to the girl on the plane,” you spoke.
“Fine, fair is fair, you have another two minutes,”
“Hello, is anyone there?” the girl asked through the phone fear even more present in her voice. You could easily tell she’d been crying.
“I’m here again,” Sherlock replied.
“Why did you leave me? Why do you always leave?”
“I don’t want to, but we haven’t got much time. I need you to go to the front of the plane-”
“Where the driver is?”
“Yes, where the driver is, very good,”
“Are you in the front of the plane?”
“I am, it’s very loud and there are a lot of buttons,”
“Do you see the radio? Like a walkie talkie? Can you hear anyone talking to you?”
“No, there I don’t see one,”
“Okay look out the window, tell me what you can see now,”
“The lights, they’re getting bigger,” she said before letting out a short scream.
“What? What happened?”
“The whole plane, it’s shaking,”
“That’s just turbulence,”
“I’m scared,” she whimpered.
“I know you are, but I’m here and I’m going to help you,” Sherlock reassured.
The call clicked off again and the three of you had no choice but to proceed to the next room. Your mind was racing with the realization of what you just did. You were going to die. Even with Sherlock being Sherlock, you couldn’t expect him to be able to save you. Not this time.
“Hey sis, don’t mean to complain, but this one is empty. What happened? Did you run out of ideas?” Sherlock asked.
“Not at all Sherlock, it’s time to pull out that gun I had you grab earlier. You have one bullet and one choice to make, John or Y/n. Only two of you proceed from here. You have to choose one or the other, lover or friend. And remember you are limited on time, between the poison and the plane in the sky” She gleamed.
“Okay, alright then. Thank you Sherlock, for everything. Make sure that the quote on my gravestone isn’t something stupid. And no flowers.” you said taking a step towards Sherlock.
“What are you doing?” John demanded.
“I’m making his choice simple. You are a doctor who saves lives, and you have a daughter. Sherlock will learn to love again, but he cannot orphan a child,” you explained voice wavering ever so slightly.
“You can’t-” John started as you turned back towards Sherlock.
“Now then, you can not blame yourself, this isn’t your fault. And no turning to drugs, a promise is still a promise whether or not I’m here to hold you to it. Just make it quick. I love you,” you said, turning your back to him trying to make it easier for him. You really hoped that he wasn’t going to make it any harder than it needed to be.
Sherlock raised the gun, he needed to think.
“Sherlock, you can’t actually be serious. You can’t do this,” John pleaded from the side.
“Jim Moriarty said you would make this choice,” Eurus said as she watched the scene unfold before her.
A single tear rolled down your cheek as you waited. Sherlock’s face changed and John watched, fearful of what was about to happen, just as Sherlock lowered the gun.
“What are you doing? They’ll both die if you don’t shoot her,” Eurus shouted.
“Not on my watch,” he muttered.
You turned around just in time to see him placing the gun under his own chin.
“No, no, Sherlock you can’t,” Eurus complained.
“10” Sherlock started,
“9”
“8”
“Sherlock,” you warned
“7”
“6”
“You don’t know about Redbeard yet,”
“5”
“Sherlock, stop it at once!” Eurus called as she sent darts into the room.
“4” Sherlock whispered, focus draining.
“3”
“2”
But then darkness consumed him completely.
When he awoke, he was confused on where he was. His mind completely blank for a moment before allowing him to remember. He scanned his surroundings. He was in another cell, this one was much smaller and the walls were covered in pictures of him from childhood to the present. He was thinking through an escape plan when he was interrupted.
“Sherlock? Are you there?” the little girl on the plane called out.
“Yes, I’m here,” he answered.
“You said you would help me and you went away,”
“I’m sorry, I got cut off. But I’m here now,”
“Why don’t grownups tell the truth?”
“I am telling the truth, I promise, you can trust me,” he said trying to calm her.
“You were gone for such a long time, where did you go?”
“I’m honestly not quite sure. Do you know how long I was gone?”
“No, I don’t”
“Are you still in the front of the plane?” he asked
“No, it was scary.”
“Well I need you to be super brave and go back to the front of the plane,”
“I’m going,”
“Are you there?” he asked.
He heard a gasp and then John answered, “Yes, I’m here,”
“John? Are you okay? Where are you? Is Y/n there?” Sherlock questioned.
“I’ve just woken up, but I think I’m okay, and Y/n’s with me, she’s still asleep. Where are you?”
“I’m in another cell and I’ve spoke to the girl on the plane again, she says we’ve been out for a long time,”
“She’s still up there?”
“Yeah, the plane will keep flying til it runs out of fuel. Now, tell me everything you can about where you are,”
“It’s dark, cold, the walls are rough, stone I think,”
“What are you standing on?”
“Also stone I think, there are like 2 feet of water and chains, Sherlock my feet are chained,” he replied.
“Okay, that’s alright I’ll find you. Focus on Y/n, see if you can wake her. Also be aware that between the weight difference and the amount consumed she is going to be affected by the poison significantly sooner than you. I can’t know the specifics without knowing what it was or how much the dose was, but it’s very important that you keep her lucid for as long as possible,”
“I will,” he said moving to your side, stepping on something. “Sherlock, there is something else in here,” he added.
“What?”
“Bones,”
“What kind of bones?”
“I can’t tell, but they’re small,”
Then the realization hit him, “Redbeard…”
“Who is Redbeard?” the little girl chimned in.
“Oh, hello again, did you make it to the front of the plane?”
“Yes, but I still can’t wake the driver up,”
“That’s okay, what can you see now?”
“I can see a city and a big wheel,”
“Okay, that just means that you and I get to drive this plane together, just you and me,” Sherlock explained.
“Look again for the radio, it should be in reach of the pilot,”
“I still don’t see it,”
“That’s alright, keep looking, we have plenty of time,”
“My ears hurt,”
“Does the city look like it is getting closer?”
“Yes, a little bit,”
“Alright, that means that you’re nearly home,” he said, beginning to feel helpless.
“Sherlock,” John spoke, “We’re in a well. Y/n and I are in the bottom of a well,”
‘There aren’t any wells in the prison, and why is there a draft?’ Sherlock thought. Then he figured it out and pushed one of the walls out to reveal that it was a trick and he was really back at his childhood home.
This is when Eurus chimed in, explaining his final task.
Meanwhile:
“Come on Y/n, wake up,” John urged as he was checking your pulse.
“John?” you asked groggily.
“Yes, I’m right here.” he smiled, taking your hand.
“Where are we?” you asked, trying to stand.
“We’re at the bottom of the well. Now take it easy,”
“Where’s Sherlock? Is he okay?” you asked, realizing the severity of the situation.
“He’s fine and he’s coming to help us,” John reassured.
“That’s good,” you replied lightly, feeling the exhaustion of the day taking its toll.
John noticed your shift in demeanor, “How are you feeling?”
“I’m fine,” you yawned.
“Seriously Y/n, tell me how you are really feeling,” he prompted.
“It doesn’t matter, it’s not like we can do anything about it,”
“Humor me,” John insisted.
“Well obviously I’m tired, wet, and cold. My head hurts, but everything else is kind of numb,” you replied unaware that Sherlock heard every word.
“Check her breathing and keep her talking,” Sherlock ordered lowly, before turning his focus back to Eurus. She told him to discover the truth about Redbeard, solve the puzzle, and save his friends. She then began to sing the song from their childhood.
“Eurus I went through that song, every line. Every word. There was a beach tree out on the grounds and I dug and dug and dug, and there was nothing. No one,”
“It was a clever little puzzle wasn’t it Sherlock? I think it’s time to up the stakes.”
“Sherlock!” John called out, “The….filling….water”
“John! Are you okay? You’re breaking up.” Sherlock asked to receive no response.
The comm was failing, and you and John tried your best to move away from the water.
“Eurus, I don’t understand, what am I missing?” Sherlock pleaded.
“Hello? The plane, it’s tilting!” the little girl screamed into Sherlock’s ear.
“The bones....Y/n…..they aren’t dog….they’re human…..hear me?” John’s voice came through in pieces, but it was enough for Sherlock to figure it out.
“Finally Sherlock, it took you long enough. Dad was allergic to dogs, so no matter how much you begged we could never have one. Redbeard. Wasn’t. A. Dog.” Eurus revealed.
And then Sherlock remembered. He remembered his young friend with red hair, Victor Trevor, who he called Redbeard when they would play pirates. He remembered how he went missing. He remember searching for him and trying to reason with his sister to tell him what she did.
“You and Victor were inseparable. You always played pirates, but I wanted to play too,” Eurus recalled.
“You killed him, you killed my best friend” Sherlock realized brokenly.
“I never had a best friend, I had no one. No one to play with. And soon, you will have no one too,” she replied falling back into song.
“Okay fine, let’s play,” he said intently, dashing out of the room and towards the gravestones with the funny dates realizing that they were the key to the puzzle. He worked to complete the cipher and crack the code once and for all. He was finally going to solve his first case.
Meanwhile:
The water was now at chest level and still rising. You were struggling more and more to maintain your grasp on consciousness. Only registering bits and peaces of what John was saying. Your mind was foggy, adrenaline being the only thing aiding it.
John came to your side, checking your pulse again, as it became harder and harder for you to focus.
‘John....Sherlock.....Eurus....The Girl.....Sherlock....The Plane...’ your mind was struggling, but then you put the pieces together.
“You-you have to tell Sherlock,” you said taking John’s arm and staring at him as if the fate of the world relied on it.
“Y/n you’re fine, you can tell him yourself when we get out of here,” John replied with a fake calmness to his tone.
“No, the plane, you have to tell him about the plane,” you urged.
“What about the plane?” John questioned.
“It’s not real, it’s all in her mind,” you explained, “Please John you have to tell him. It might save him.”
With that, you felt a rush of dizziness and sort of stumbled forward into John who had to reposition himself in order to keep you both upright.
“Okay, hang on Y/n, I’ll tell him. Just stay with me,” John promised.
“Sherlock?” he called out,
He shook the ear piece trying to get it to work. “Sherlock?” he repeated.
“John! Are you okay?”
“Yes, but the water is getting higher and we’re running out of time, where are you?”
“I’m solving the song,”
“Is that strictly necessary?”
“Yes, it’s the key to all of this. How’s Y/n?”
“Not good, but she wanted me to tell you that the plane isn’t real,”
“What? How does she know?” Sherlock asked.
John turned to you to ask for your explanation and noticed with dismay that your eyes were closed.
“Y/n? Y/n you have to wake up!” John demanded.
Sherlock becoming overwhelmed, elected to take the comm out of his ear. He needed to think. He focused on the song and the dates and figured it out:
“I am lost. Help me, brother, Save my life. Before my doom. I am lost. Without your love. Save my soul. Seek my room.”
And without a second’s hesitation, he sprinted to Eurus’ room. As he entered the building he could hear the girl on the plane again and it made sense now, you were right.
“We’re going to crash!” she screamed.
“I think it’s time you told me your real name,” Sherlock huffed.
“I told you, I can’t tell me name to strangers,”
“But I’m not a stranger am I? I’m your brother” he said as he opened the door to Eurus’ room to find her sitting in the middle of the floor, tears running down her cheeks.
“I’m here Eurus” he said as he carefully tried to approach her.
“You’re playing with me Sherlock, we’re playing the game.” she smiled, eyes still closed.
“Yes, we are playing a game. I get it now. The song was never a set of directions,”  he spoke softly.
“I’m in the plane, I’m going to crash, but this time you’re going to save me” she said fearfully.
“Look how brilliant you are, your mind has created a perfect metaphor. You are high above us all alone in the sky and you understand everything except how to land. While I am just an idiot on the ground. But I can help you land, I can bring you home,” he said softly sitting in front of her.
“No, no you can’t it’s too late,” she cried.
“It’s not too late,” he assured her.
“Every time I close my eyes I’m on the plane and lost. Lost in the sky and no one can hear me,”
“Open your eyes,” he whispered, taking her hands, “I’m here and you’re not lost anymore”.
As she looked at him, he saw for the first time how much of a child she still was. There was so much fear in her eyes. “You just took a wrong turn last time, this time get it right. Just tell me how to save my friends,” he pleaded.
Meanwhile:
John tried unsuccessfully to wake you up. He was forced to support your weight completely which was becoming harder and harder to do. The water was now at the bottom of his neck and he knew that time was running out. He was starting to give up hope when the water stopped.
“Sherlock!’” he yelled hoping that his friend was nearby.
“John! Help is here, Scotland yard,  they’re getting rope and bolt cutters. Y/n - Is she still breathing?” Sherlock asked, fearful of the answer.
“She’s-I can’t tell. I’m holding her up and don’t want to move her,” he explained.
“I have the antidote, Eurus gave it to me before they took her away,” Sherlock said.
Moments later multiple officers came back. The tossed down a harness for John to wrap around you so that he could move freely. As soon as your weight was supported, he checked your pulse and breathing.
“Sherlock,” he called up.
“Yes John?”
“She’s still breathing,”
Sherlock was filled with relief. Everything after that happened quickly. The team lowered some bolt cutters down and John was able to sever the chain. They then worked together to pull you out of the well. You were immediately taken to the ambulance and Sherlock injected you with what he had calculated as the needed amount of the antidote. Due to the beginning signs of hypothermia along with the unconsciousness, the EMT’s decided that it was best to take you to the hospital.
Sherlock debated momentarily whether to join you or to wait for John. He decided to stay and wait for his best friend.  Pulling him tightly into his arms as he exited the well. Sherlock wasted no time administering the antidote and then sat with John as another EMT gave him an on-site work up.
“She was right you know, the plane wasn’t real” Sherlock said.
“Really?” John asked as they began to walk away from it all.
“Nope, just a metaphor,”
“What happens now?”
“Now, my sister will go back to prison. My brother will make sure she is taken care of after facing the wrath of my parents. You go home and see your daughter, holding her just a little tighter than normal. I go to the hospital to see my girlfriend, and if she is okay, take her back to her apartment where we will spend the night. Tomorrow, we will all meet at Baker Street and clean up the mess from the explosion, putting our lives back together again,” Sherlock answered matter-of-factly.
“Do you really think that it’ll be that easy?” John asked, wrapping the blanket around his shoulders as they got in a cab.
“Of course not,” Sherlock smiled and John rolled his eyes.
The rest of the car ride was comfortably silent, both of the men were replaying the events of the day in their heads, considering how close they had come to losing everything. Sherlock’s mind drifted to his sister. He wondered if this had all been avoidable, if only he had been there for her sooner. He also wondered that if his mind was capable of covering up Victor Trevor, what other truths had it spared him? But mostly, his mind focused on you, he hoped that you were okay.
As the cab stopped, John had asked Sherlock to call with an update as soon as he knew anything. As much as he wanted to go and see you himself, Sherlock was right that he really needed to spend some quality time with his daughter. On the way to the hospital, Sherlock was caught off guard as the driver’s phone rang. The cabbie picked it up spoke for a moment before handing it to Sherlock, “it’s for you,”
“Hello Brother Mine,” he said knowing that only Mycroft would have the resources to pull this off.
“Sherlock, I’m so sorry, are you okay?” he asked.
Mycroft had been away on official government business which is why the three of you had chosen now to go see Eurus in the first place. He must have received word from one of the boys at Scotland yard what had happened.
“I’m fine, had quite the run in with our little sister,” Sherlock answered.
“I heard. Any news on Y/n yet?” he asked sincerely.
“I’ve just arrived at the hospital. I need to give the cabbie his phone back. Impressive by the way. I’ll call you soon,” Sherlock replied.
“Sherlock?” Mycroft called out.
“Hmm?”
“I truly am sorry,”
“I know”
And he did. His brother was only ever trying to do what he thought was in his best interest. Sherlock may not have entirely agreed with his methods, but never doubted that his heart was in the right place. He pulled out his wallet and generously tipped the cabbie before heading inside and asking the nurses station as to your whereabouts and condition. She informed him that she would have to check with a doctor and asked him to be seated in the waiting room.
He sat down and waited as patiently as he could muster. He wanted, no, he *needed* to see you and to hold you. The few minutes it took the nurse to return felt like an eternity to everyone’s favorite consulting detective. In that time his brain was being particularly cruel and  reminding him of all of the things that could be wrong. For instance, you could have been unconscious longer than he anticipated, he might have calculated the wrong amount of antidote, you might have neural deficits, you might- before Sherlock could continue torturing himself, the nurse reappeared. She informed him that you were awake and practically ready to be discharged, just waiting for a confirmation from the doctor. She gave him your room number and pointed him in the right direction before excusing herself to do more work.
His face lifted into a smile as he opened your door. You were already sitting on the side of the bed in some scrubs (since your clothes were soaking wet). And just as you saw Sherlock, the phone rang and you answered it, signaling for him to wait a second.
“I forgive you,” you said without missing a beat.
There was a pause as the other person spoke.
“Of course I knew it was you, Mycroft. Who else would manage to call me before Sherlock could even get into the room,”
-another pause-
“As I am sure you already know, I am fine, as are your brother and John. And I was serious, I don’t blame you and while I know it is a mue point to tell you not to blame yourself, I do feel that it it necessary to remind you that-”
-a briefer pause-
“Of course not, I-”
-pause-
“Goodnight Mycroft, try to get some sleep,” you finished before hanging up the phone and turning to Sherlock with a smile.
“Your brother is something else,” you said as you motioned for Sherlock to sit next to you.
“That he is,” Sherlock agreed, wrapping his arm around you, “how are you feeling?”
“As well as can be expected considering the circumstances,” you answered.
“That’s acceptable,” he said, pulling you in tighter.
“How are you doing?”
“Why are you asking me? I’m not the one who was poisoned and nearly drowned.”
“No, you’re just the one who had to face a secret sister, multiple deeply unsettling moral dilemmas, confront childhood trauma, watch his girlfriend and best friend almost die, twice, among other things. So I’ll ask again, how are you doing?
“As well as can be expected considering the circumstances” he said repeating your earlier answer.
“I love you,” you said wishing that you could undo the day and spare Sherlock from it entirely. You leaned back into his embrace taking in the comfort of knowing that even if you couldn’t change the past, you could be there for him moving forward.
“I love you too,” he replied, thankful that you were okay and thankful that it all was over.
The two of you continued to sit like that just quietly taking in each others’ presence. It would take twenty minutes for you to be officially discharged and another twenty to arrive at your apartment at which time you elected to shower and head to bed.
As you fell asleep in Sherlock’s arms, his mind was still trying to wind down. He sincerely hoped that you would be okay. He, you, and John had been through a lot. He knew that he would be fine, and that John was better equipped to compartmentalize his emotions after his time in the military. You, on the other hand, were a wild card. He had never been around you when you went through anything traumatizing, and had no idea how you were going to react. He promised himself that no matter what, he would be there for you. Eventually, he was able to fall asleep, his mind somewhat eased.
The next day as Sherlock predicted, the two of you would meet up with John at Baker Street to begin repairing and cleaning the flat. Mycroft had stopped by briefly to provide each out you with new cell phones and explained that he would be paying for the repairs as well as for your medical bills. He also informed that Eurus was back in a newly secured prison and he was leaving to go speak to his parents as Sherlock requested. He apologized again for everything and then left. You, John, and Sherlock bid him well and then continued to clean up. After a while, the three of you went downstairs and collected Rosie from Mrs. Hudson and go out for dinner.
You looked between the four of you as Sherlock was explaining something brilliant and John was listening intently, looking away occasionally to make sure his daughter was doing okay. A smile found its way to your face as you realized that this was your family. No matter how bad things got, nights like these made everything worth it. This. This is why you would never elect to date anyone more ordinary, even if it would be the death of you.

What is North and South?
I’M GLAD YOU ASKED, INTERNET NONNIE!!!
For the sake of your sanity and patience, I’ll give you the tl;dr version first: It’s a BBC mini-series (4 episodes) based off a book by Elizabeth Gaskell that everyone should absolutely watch (the version with Richard Armitage and Daniela Denby-Ashe is generally considered to be superior, although there’s an older version with Patrick Stewart that I need to check out at some point) but particularly fans of 1) Pride and Prejudice (because the love story is in many ways similar) and/or 2) fans of smoldering hotties because the miniseries is about 233 minutes long, and Armitage smolders through approximately 230 of those minutes.
Was that still a little long for a tl;dr? OH WELL! Wanna delve into the longer version of why this movie has captured my heart? I’ll be kind and put it under the cut.
What’s the Story?
Excerpted from the BBC website: “Set against the backdrop of Victorian England's industrial north, it follows the fortunes of Margaret Hale, one of 19th century literature's most original heroines. Margaret is a privileged, middle class southerner who is forced to settle in the northern town of Milton. Her distaste for the town and its people extends to handsome and charismatic cotton mill owner John Thornton, whom she believes epitomizes everything she dislikes about the North. As events conspire to throw Margaret and Thornton together, the two spirited characters have to overcome their repressed physical attraction for one another and conquer prejudices of class and circumstance.”
I read online that the BBC actually didn’t expect North and South to be very popular, so they didn’t promote it very much. ... And within two to three hours of it airing, so many fans flocked to the BBC message boards that they crashed the site. Needless to say...the BBC got that one wrong.
That’s Great, But I Meant the Love Story!
Okay, yeah, there’s an interesting perspective about the rise of unions, workers’ rights, and cotton production in the 1850′s, but let’s be honest. That’s not why we’re here. We’re here for the love story. We’re here for the ship. And the ship is SO WORTH IT!
Tumblr media
So I said that fans of Pride and Prejudice in particular should watch this because there are a lot of similarities between Elizabeth/Darcy and Margaret/Thornton.
* Initial misunderstanding upon meeting that gives our heroine a very bad impression of our hero? Check
* Pride and prejudice all up in this business? Check
* Hero hopelessly falls for the heroine while the heroine is convinced she cannot stand him? Check
* Even MORE misunderstandings? Cheeeeeeck
* SMOLDER? OH MY GOD CHECK
* Unfortunate Proposal (TM)? Check
* Heroine realizes she was wrong about the hero and falls for him when it May Be Too Late? Check check check
* Romantic moments that will steal your heart/make you swoon/make you think some Very Smutty Thoughts? Check check check check check check check
Honestly, it’s got it all. It’s P&P if Darcy grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and Elizabeth was socially above him. It also gives a lot more of Thornton’s POV than we got in P&P (which, don’t get me wrong, I adore), so if you love Misunderstood Men Soft for Just One Woman but really want to feel their heartbreak at Unrequited Love, let me tell you...whoo boy. There’s one scene in here where Thornton just stuck a dagger right in my heart and is totally the reason I couldn’t stop thinking about it for days and the obsession began. (For those familiar with the show, it’s when he tells his mother she’s the only one who cares for him. Oh my god, he broke my heart in that scene.)
Who’s the Heroine?
Tumblr media
Our heroine is Margaret Hale. As it says in the synopsis above, she’s from the South. She moves with her family to the North when her father gives up his position in the church and moves them to the harsher, dirtier, coarser industrial town of Milton. She’s got a good heart and is plenty outspoken, but it takes her some time to adjust, and she does not get the best first impression of Thornton, I’m afraid. Over time, she comes to see him for the honest, honorable, compassionate, thoughtful, Hottie McHotterton that he is.
Okay, she MAY have already realized what a hottie he was because, honestly. LOOK AT HIM.
The Frock-Coated Fox
(My eternal gratitude for whatever N&S fan first coined that phrase because I will always think of him in those terms. Always.)
Tumblr media
John Thornton is the owner of Marlborough Mills. He’s coarser than Darcy. Rougher around the edges. More hot-headed. But he abides by a strict code of honor, and his gruff exterior hides an aching vulnerability. He loves Margaret, even when he’s convinced she’ll never love a man like him in return. He’s proud - and hard in many ways - but he has more care and compassion for his workers than Margaret originally assumes (and more than he himself would perhaps admit).
I mentioned his general propensity to smolder, right? Oh, I didn’t?

He smolders even when she’s not THERE and he’s just THINKING about her!

But you want to know the only thing better than his smolder? When he’s soft. For her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I...I may need a moment. My heart can’t take what I’ve just done to myself.
Are There Supporting Characters?
I mean...yeah. And they’re all amazing. Well, Fanny can be a bit of a trial. Even John agrees.
Tumblr media
But I appreciate her anyway.
My favorites, though, would be:
Tumblr media
Nicholas Higgins. Margaret doesn’t hit it off with him initially, but they eventually become close after she befriends his daughter. A union man, he and Thornton do not initially get along. However, over time, they come to understand and respect each other and he may be the closest thing Thornton has to a friend - at least that we see.
And
Tumblr media
Mrs. Thornton, John’s mother. I think she can be a divisive character. I know several people who don’t like her. I, however, ADORE her. Every time I watch the show (and I did three times in one week), I come to love her more. She’s a hard woman - as much by circumstance as inclination - but she has a similar code of honor as her son, and she loves, protects, and believes in him FIERCELY. She is, for that reason...not...so much...a fan of Margaret, particularly after their first meeting, when Margaret scoffs at the notion of any woman being taken with John. Reeeeeeally not the best foot to start off on, girl!
So Is It Worth It?
Yes. It absolutely is, and if you give it a chance, I really hope you tell me what you thought of it!
To finish out my gushfest, I must point out that one of the most incredible things about North and South is how good they are at “show, don’t tell.” I didn’t realize the first few times that I watched that there is no “I love you” exchanged at the end. There doesn’t need to be.
Tumblr media
You know.

welcome aboard, liam oliver, student #29. we are excited to set sail with you !  has anyone told you that you look like alex fitzalan? according to our records, you hail from sydney, australia, prefer he/him, are cismale, and are here to study business. we also see you received a spot on the ss university because of your money — we won’t tell anyone. during your first few weeks here, other students said you were + charming, + ambitious, but also - indecisive. it sounds like you spend most of your time at the student lounge. upon checking your luggage, we noticed you packed a film camera brought from home. hopefully your roommates don’t steal it!
tw: suicide mention, drug overdose, alcohol
Basics:
Full Name: Liam Spencer Oliver
Age: Twenty-two
Birthday: May 21, 1998
Zodiac: Gemini
Major: Business
Aesthetic: Here.
Background: (tw: suicide mention, drug overdose, alcohol)
Being part of the elite circle grants a person with countless privileges and power within the society-- a membership so sacred that somehow disdains even the new rich. It’s a person’s birthright; birthright no one can ever hold off. The world is in their hands, pulling and twisting strings without having to think of others as long as it benefits themselves. This is in fact the reality in this high society we live in.
Fortunately for Liam, he was born into it.
To be part of the Oliver Family, one must offer a promise one could never refuse. And so, his parent’s marriage was nothing like a fairytale love story we heard as a child, where a prince falls in love with a beautiful princess and they live happily ever after. Their union was solely an agreement in expanding the business after decades of focusing on the investment management firm. Audrey Rhodes was the perfect candidate for Philip Oliver. She came from a family of prominent doctors and could very well serve the purpose of expanding the business to the medical field. By the time she was 25, Audrey bore a beautiful baby girl named Amara, and a couple of years later Liam.
The children were raised by their mother filled with love and support, teaching them the respect and understanding they should uphold-- the traits their father always lacked. At a young age, Audrey immersed Liam to see the harsh reality that not everyone had the same privileges he has. She was the epitome of perfection, but it was short-lived as Audrey was taken by an illness they had not known. This brought an undeniable sadness in their once happy home.
However, Philip never really allowed the children to mourn for their mother. Instead, he forced the children to grow up. Their trips to the orphanages became board meetings, their free time became deadlined reports, and their meals became business discussions. To make matters worse, the children were made to compete against each other just to satisfy his high expectations, to prove to their own father that they were worth the name Oliver.
Eventually, Liam was sent abroad for school. Imagine the happiness he felt; he was able to do what he wanted as long as he was on top of the class and did whatever his father ordered him to do. For anyone his age, the high standard and expectations set by the world, especially his father, were too much for him. Alcohol became a coping mechanism. It became the comfort he never found since his mother passed. But with one incident, a failed score to be exact, things went downhill. Liam tried to overdose himself with over-the-counter pills. His father doesn’t know and wouldn’t care even if he knew. And if it weren’t for his friends, he would not be here now.
Liam lives to find his own path away from the pressures of this father. He parties all night and drinks to no end, as if wanting to relive his attempt on his life. Home is wherever his father is not, even if it means barely being in Australia. It is where he pretends to live outside of the shadows of his past, acting as if he’s perfectly fine. Seas University is where one finds him stumbling around. Now, it’s only a matter of time before he stumbles upon someone who would change his life.
Personality:
If a person were to describe Liam in one word; it would be competitive. Even with his high grades, he constantly needs to prove himself in everything he does. But of course, it was never enough for his parents regardless of what happened to him in the past. They have to stay perfect in the eyes of many. Apart from it, he is quite charming though some would see it as being flirtatious. He just simply knows how to make his way to the heart of the many. But don’t be a fool with his quality, he could come as sarcastic and conceited too.
He is indecisive. He wasn’t sure what he wanted, it may be in his dreams or relationship. Because he is afraid that he will just fail.
When it comes to friends, he is generous, trustworthy, and loving. Liam would take a bullet just to protect the people that he loved. He will also be the first one to apologize when things end badly, even if it is not his fault.
Wanted Connections:
Best friend: his partner in crime, the one person he trusted the most in his life. this person knew the ups and down of his life.
Childhood friend: this person knew exactly what happens behind the closed door of his family, knew the struggle he had in the past.
Siblings/ Cousins
Exes: they may end up in good terms or bad terms. A bit of drama is always fun.
Party buddies: always up for fun.

five part i- dear patience
storypage | taglist | playlist | thoughts
“ Dear Patience, if I pour my heart out, can you keep a promise? (mmhmm) 'cause the situation is like a mountain that's been weighing on my conscience, if I'm being honest.”
Ginger is sitting on her couch when Niall walks through the front door. He holds up the bagged take out and smiles at the sight of the flame-haired girl sitting cross-legged on the couch.
“Jeopardy again?” Niall shakes his head as he hands Ginger her burger and onion rings. She takes a sip of the dark soda before nodding.
“They have a dinosaur category,” Ginger presses play on the remote and the recorded episode; the couple was halfway through dinner before a contestant picked the extinct animal section.
“When was the first fossil discovered?” the white-haired man asks, and before a contestant buzzes in their answer, Ginger nearly screams: “1822!”
Niall looks at Ginger with amazement that she knew the answer. He knew she loved the Jurassic Park movies, but he never knew how deep the obsession went.
“I’m not obsessed; I just like them,” Ginger says, reading Niall’s mind.
“I didn’t say anything,” Niall smiles as he runs his fingers through his hair when lifting his hat off his head. His fingers touch Ginger’s bare shoulder as he stretches out. He’s afraid she’ll move, but she stays still zoned in on Jeporady completely dissociating from Niall.
“Mhmm.”
It was a few minutes before someone chose the dinosaurs again, and this time Ginger answered the question before Alex could finish.
“What dinosaur broke through the cell wall in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom?”
“PACHYCEPHALOSAURUS,” Ginger yells at the television while bouncing. She smiles to herself when she knows she got the answer right.
“You’re such a dork,” Niall laughs, his voice booming over the TV.
“Shut your mouth, Horan. I’m trying to win,” Ginger says, and for a moment she feels grateful that it’s only her and Niall, and that Stella is in New York for work for the week. Niall promised Stella to look after Ginger, even though she was grown and protested, she’s thankful for this moment together. Just two friends hanging out.
At the end of the episode, Ginger counted her total correct answers and gave herself a small high five for getting all of them right. She turned to Niall and beamed with joy. She began to laugh, cupping her mouth to halt the laughter, but she failed.
“What‘s so funny, Gin?” Niall’s arms covered the top part of the couch; his body tense as he looked at Ginger glowing.
“I’m dino-winner!” Ginger let the laugh fill the room as Niall shook his head and rolled his eyes at the horrible pun.
“God, I’m in love with a weirdo,” Niall leans up to rest his arms on his knees. His eyes focus on the coffee table as he realizes the slip.
“What did you say?” Ginger asks, her laughter dead and a much-needed seriousness fell on her voice.
“Nothin’,” Niall shook his head, wanting to be anywhere but on the couch with Ginger.
“Don’t say that. Don’t you dare say that,” Ginger says quietly. She pulls her legs toward her chest and wraps her arms around her knees. She wants to be as far away from Niall as possible. A sudden sound of thunder rumbles outside and Niall looks over at Ginger. “Please don’t say it.” Ginger closes her eyes and begs.
“Say what? That I love you? Why is that so bad?” Niall asks, his baseball cap hiding his eyes. “Why?”
“You don’t get to say that to me,” Ginger swallows and looks anywhere but in Niall’s direction. The patter of heavy rain hits the roof of the house and Niall rolls his lips in as he takes in the truth.
“We can argue like a couple, hang out like we’re together, but saying words like we’re one is crossing the line. Got it. You know, Ginger, I loved you from the moment you walked through my door. You lit up the room. I like being around ya, makin’ ya laugh. Holdin’ you when you're sad.” Niall is shaking and Ginger listens intently, hoping this all ends.
“We kiss, and God, that was...somethin’. I want to hear you laugh and make horrible jokes and watch ya win against yourself at Jeopardy for the rest of my life, but me saying I’m in love with you is unrealistic.”
“I never said that,” Ginger quips.
“Yeah, ya didn’t have to. I want you in my life, Gin.”
“You do. But you’re with Stella, still. And you always will beYou’re never going to break up with her. So why do this? Why fall when I know I’m already dead when I hit the bottom?” Ginger asks.
“For the ride. So I can love you. Properly. Jesus, this is such a foreign concept to you.” Niall leans back into the couch and he shifts his hat. The silence drove Ginger insane.
“Yeah, it is. But it’s not like you’ve had the best track record either. Stella, Hailee…”
“Daniel…” Niall cuts Ginger off. His mention of John Doe cut deep. It was too far and he knew it. But he didn’t care.
“Get out.” Ginger whispers, her tears building. Niall stands and hovers over Ginger as if he was going to kiss her goodbye or apologize, but he straightens himself and walks towards the kitchen.
“I tell ya I love you and you kick me out. This is what I get for openin’ me mouth,” Niall says before closing the front door, walking out of the storm that is Ginger Blake and into the storm that covered the entirety of Los Angeles. Ginger throws the decorative pillow towards Niall’s path and she spends the rest of the night wiping her tears as she sleeps on the couch.
~~~
Ginger hears banging going around her. She opens her eyes to find the morning light creeping through the blinds in the living room. She sits up and rubs her sleep away before blinking the person in her kitchen into clarity.
Niall was pouring two bowls of cereal; his back was to Ginger’s and for a moment, she smiled. Then, the fight last night flooded her mind, confusing her all over again. Niall turned and stopped as he noticed Gingers sitting up wide awake.
“Mornin’,” Niall says as he walks over Ginger’s legs. He sits in his spot from last night and hands Ginger the bowl of colorful cereal. She turns her spoon over and tries to remember everything from last night. Niall, chewing his cereal, rubs Ginger’s wild hair down and huffs. He goes back to his breakfast.
“What are you doing?” Ginger asks, looking up at the man who she just kicked out hours ago. The thought of revoking Niall’s key privileges crosses her mind.
“Eating cereal. Then we’re going to my place.” Niall says between mouthfuls. He’s avoiding eye contact and Ginger knows she hurt his feelings so to keep the moment of peace, she takes a bite of cereal even though she’s not hungry, at least not in that way.
~~~~~
Ginger felt the warm rays of the sun through the glass door as Niall drove out of Los Angeles. Midday, it was already nearing eighty-six degrees. She wanted nothing more than to be inside with the air conditioning blowing on high. She watched as Niall packed her brown leather overnight bag full of mix-matched clothes, bathing suits, and her toiletries. He chuckled at the sight of her monogram on the side of the bag; he called her the epitome of a southern girl. Ginger didn’t know whether to laugh or get angry.
It was like Niall had completely forgotten the night before. The night where he let the three words, that Ginger most desperately wants to hear but fears the four syllables, slip. She wanted to crawl over him and kiss his soft skin, but the fear of the unknown with Niall, the thought of losing her best friend drove her to confusion.
The car ride is dull with the sound of the radio filling the silence. Ginger wants to talk- scream if she needs to, just to let Niall know she doesn’t know what in the cold hell she’s doing. You’re not supposed to fantasize and want someone else’s person. You’re not supposed to long for your friend, most importantly, your cousin’s boyfriend.
Niall sings along to the top hits as the drive lingers on. It’s when they approach a white gate that he stops making a sound. The beeping of the gate keys pulls Ginger into reality- something she’s desperately wanting to escape.
“Had to change the password last week. Some fans hacked it,” Niall scoffs, his voice sounding annoyed. “I love ‘em but sometimes…”
“What is it now?” Ginger asks as Niall shifts the car into park. He rubs his neck, which is turning red, from embarrassment. “Your birthday. I couldn’t think of anything else.” Ginger sits in the car dumbfounded as Niall grabs her bags and proceeds to walk into his white mansion.
~~~~
It was dark when Ginger finally decided that she had ignored Niall long enough. She spent the day lounging about the pool, reading, and catching up on her work. Niall would walk outside for a few moments, checking on Ginger, bringing her water or wine, but Ginger barely spoke to him. She made it known that she would be staying in the guest room and not with Niall.
Niall’s roommate and his girlfriend were on vacation somewhere in the mountains of Austria so it was only the two of them tonight.
Niall was finishing up dinner when Ginger walked into the kitchen wearing black yoga pants and an oversize tye-dye tee. Her hair was in a loose bun atop her head and her sun-kissed skin was glowing.
“Chicken kabobs with rice and brussels. Okay with you?” Niall asks as he pulls the brussels off the stove. Ginger peers over Niall’s shoulder, her chest touching his back and she nods when she sees the bacon inter-meshed with the vegetable.
Her hand cups Niall’s elbow and as she pulls herself down, her touches lingers. Niall turns his head and looks at their embrace before looking Ginger in the eyes.
“I’m sorry for being a bitch.” Ginger’s apology was out in the open and she gave Niall a small smile. His mouth folds into one of his cheeks and his teeth scrape his lip.
“Wouldn’t expect anything’ less,” Niall feels the swat of Ginger. The music changes on the speakers and Niall cups her hand to pull her close to his body. His arm wraps around her waist and he gingerly teases the girl in front of him to loop her freckled arms around the nape of his neck.
“Oh my God, it’s country,” Ginger says disgustedly.
“Most people from the south like country,” Niall laughs. “Trust me, it’s a good one.” The guitar plays as Ginger leans her head against Niall’s chest; she feels his heart beat faster as their embrace lingers on longer than normal. The song itself was one that couples would dance to at their wedding, but the words as the man sang them made Ginger feel as if it was her and Niall facing the world together.
“You make better than I was before,” floated through the speakers as Niall sang the lyrics to her and Ginger understood why Niall would want to dance to this song. They swayed their bodies around in a circle in the kitchen and it was like Niall and Ginger were the only people in the world.
When the song ends, Ginger stops swaying her feet and looks up at Niall. Their lips scrape against each other, the taste of affection driving them insane. The kiss deepens, their lips rolling against each other as their tongues fighting for dominance. Niall gently traces the curves of Ginger’s body absentmindedly as if he is the painter and Ginger was his canvas.
Ginger's heart is banging against its cage as her hand cup Niall’s neck. Niall feels his stomach knot up as he’s been kicked in it, and he has: Ginger is finally opening up. His fingers dig into her skin and pull her closer, making her feel the lump in Niall’s trousers. Ginger pulls away breathless and for once, Ginger is speechless.
“Wow,” Nial says huffing for air. He’s feeling as if he’s run a marathon. “ You okay?” Niall asks, the round of his knuckle pushing a tendril of her red curls out of the way, noticing Ginger’s concerned look on her face. She’s biting the same lip Niall just pulled with his own.
“I, um… I don’t know,” Ginger says before letting go of her own embrace. She looks around the kitchen for an excuse, remembering the food. “I’m not hungry,” Ginger says softly and leaves Niall standing in the kitchen wondering what the hell he did wrong.
