So uh, I really did just guess "there is no way it's that bad, right?"...
OK, SO LET'S TALK. So again if you haven't seen the episode big Trigger Warning for its content! It's real heavy, explicit and on your face. I'm a Sexual abuse victim talking about this, just so you know.
I think the bigger problem I have with the episode, it's the context surrounding it and what happens later on, specially. Many people can have different views on the poison scene itself, for their own. But that scene, even if you as a victim relate, can only really work in a vacuum. Why? Let's see... hum.... The jokes of male SA in Helluva Boss? How it's written as funny to Moxxie to get assaulted? By the Succubus, Blitz, Chaz? Not seeing any problem in Stolitz, and victim blaming Blitz.
Suddenly Viv wants to be like: "Male sexual assault and abuse it's so not talked about, I'm going to write about it". As if she didn't write all those HB jokes. All those jokes are only men getting assaulted too, by other men or woman. The SA and r-pe it's funny when it's done to men, why did this even happen?

Even if the entire episode 4 was good, why did the same person write all this jokes? Is the sexual harassment Angel does to husk, even going to be addressed later or...? The biggest problem, it's the bad execution. Something happens a lot with HB and HH, it's that scenes and concepts work In isolation, that way you imagine in infinite possibilities of the "what if this". But they give you is in it'self not that good. The series does expect you to be a fan, and have to watch the pilot. Because it doesn't really bother to introduce the characters or anything. So the emotional bits don't hit that hard if you didn't already care about the characters since or before the pilot.
Since the first episodes, Valentino has being changing between fucking idiot and horrifying monster. In episode 2 he is treated as a stupid dumbass. I feel like all the episodes until 4 were too much, on the comedy shit- to immediately jump into explicit abuse and SA is a lot. In the end of the episode they also shift back the tone, weirdly.
So we jump into Val and Angel's work, showing how shitty val is. Charlie jumps into interrupting the hole thing. AND VAL ASSAULTS HER TOO??? I didn't expect that. He grabs her kisses and lick up her arm, and gets too close to her in other scenes. Then Charlie accidentally ruins the set, and Val ends up physically abusing Angel. Living him with a black eye, and it's shown Angel did a deal with him. Leaving him fully trapped with him (not a legal contract, but a devil/sinner bound magic thing). Then it's poison music number.
Many people feel like it's too graphic. Other people will say it's okey, because it shows the problem straight on, and it's supposed to make you uncomfortable.
Explicit doesn't = good.
You can talk a lot of what does this level of graphic/explicit add to the conversation.
My main problem with it being so explicit comes from who is directing that hole part of the episode. I talked about it in the post above. The person in question:

Does this scene above seem familiar to you? This person put together with how the poison part of the episode is played out AND all the disgusting "SA is funny" jokes HB make this a fucking problem.
AND THEN THE FUCKING ENDING IS CRAZY BAD LIKE HELLO???? At the end, Angel is at a bar, and his drink gets spiked. Husk gets him out and fights against the guys that spiked the drink. Then they kindly have an argument... To get through the whole heavy ass episode- to then Husk hit with a song calling Angel a baby IS FUCKING CRAZY. I see what the point was supposed to be, but the execution absolutely kills it. The song tries to compare Husk and Angel, to say shit sucks but hey it's okay we are in this together, BUT HOLY SHIT. Why, comparing Angel Dust being sexually abused under a demonic contract (HE IS STILL UNDER)- to Husk having to work for Alastor. Yes, Husk fucked up his life in hell do to gambling- that's not comparable to Angel being in an abusive relationship where he gets taken advantaged of. Calling Angel dust a baby loser, "everyone got it difficult get over your self"- it's fucking crazy. The fact that the episode ends on everyone happy and laugh it off it awful! WHAT HAPPEN???????? Like Angel is still under Val's contract- his going to have to go back to work, or to any other place where his drink could be spiked. We are still in the same problem. I don't- I don't understand. The song wasn't even a "I'll help you", it felt more like "Hey shit sucks, get over it". How did you write that? I don't think the series has the time or good enough space to treat the subjects- and they are dealing in the worst way.

Hyperbolic Chart ~ Snow Troupe (2023)

Ah………….
Standing in the Seinenkan hallway and finding out Maaya Kiho and Ikuta-sensei got married feels like it happened in a different lifetime. So much has transpired since, little of it good.
SPOILERS (cw death, chronic pain, suicide—perhaps read below if you were thinking of watching this but are struggling with what has recently occurred in Takarazuka):
Hyperbolic Chart is a hospital drama of sorts based on a novel that follows surgeon Fernando de Rossi (Genius! Womanizer! Dark secret??) ((Kazuki Sora)) as he’s approaching the premature end of his life. He has an incurable illness that gives him a reckless streak, and a moral code that puts people first and doesn’t necessarily always agree with the written law. Although they have a great respect for each other, this puts him at odds with fellow doctor Lamberto (Agata Sen) whose moral code is very by the book. The chief of medicine’s daughter Clarice (Nonoka Himari) wants to marry Fernando, but he falls in love with the new nurse, Monica (Kasumi Sana). Love triangle aside, over the course of the show, Fernando decides to give one of his patients, Cesare (Ouji Kaoru), who is quite afraid of death, an unnecessary and ineffective surgery for his terminal cancer, while lying to the family about the surgery’s likelihood of success (the surgery scene takes the form an epic dance, in which Fernando metaphorically battles Death, played by Manomiya Rui). The hospital thinks this is ethically wrong, but Fernando thinks it’s important to give Cesare one last moment of hope, so his family can see him smile again. Cesare expresses gratitude for this decision in a letter he writes just before his death. Subsequently, Lamberto discovers via some x-rays that Monica finds in Fernando’s home that Fernando is also suffering from a terminal disease. He confronts Fernando, and they have an argument that ends in Fernando refusing treatment. In the end, Fernando takes Monica on a romantic trip to his hometown, introduces her to his mother, and ultimately decides to end his own life rather than suffer the pain of allowing his disease to run its natural course.
The themes of this show, which are very much about the role doctors play not just in physical care but also in emotional care and acceptance of death, as well as choosing one’s own path to death, kinda hit differently now.
Thoughts on the show itself though…
Agata Sen wore the 4.5 years that have passed since I last saw her PROUDLY. She was stately, handsome, subtle, in command, really got the intricacies of the complex differences between Lamberto and Fernando. There is no villain in this story; only the abstract conflict of opposing morals, neither of which are “wrong.” Agachin may still need to go to singing bootcamp, but she blew me away with how well she captured the nuances of this.
I went in hoping I’d wind up obsessed with Kasumi Sana, since I haven’t seen her before, I don’t personally care for the apparent musumeyaku track within the troupe, and at the time I thought I needed to have more of a vested interest in who would be next (guess I’m free??). I still have no idea how I feel about her, because I absolutely despise Monica. I don’t think it was Kasumi’s portrayal; I think Monica is a terrible character, the product of a female love interest in a workplace drama being written by a hundred-year-old man. She has no personality, she’s essentially thrilled about being sexually harassed at work, and considering Fernando’s MUCH more developed character, there is no basis for the strength of his feelings for her, other than she happens to be standing there one day while he’s thinking about death and she’s a woman so it’s her job to be available to receive his emotional burdens (and we are expected to find this utterly romantic). I find it infuriating, and I think it singlehandedly prevented me from feeling moved by the show.
Clarice is only marginally a better character (if one woman wins the man the other’s whole personality must be jealousy, right?), but I think Himari is probably a top 5 musumeyaku in the company right now in terms of acting, which helped.
Sora. I watched Hyperbolic Chart with about as light a feeling as one can have while watching this sort of thing, because I genuinely thought that she had about six years and a legitimate shot at top stardom ahead of her, and that my fantasy of watching her lead some kind of witty screwball enemies-to-lovers show inspired by a Cary Grant movie or something had more than zero chance of becoming reality in the future. I’ve never been so caught off guard by a taidan announcement, and it seems none of my friends/acquaintances (some of whom have fandom roots going back to like, Mori Keaki) have either. I felt this before, but I feel it even more now: who looked at Sora and thought ah, yes, the perfect canvas for our most fucked up tragedies?? Yume Chidori, Lovers’ Suicide, this… it’s been three leads in a row. On top of that, the latter two are Yukigumi re-stages that for me are kind of irreplaceable.
She was heartbreaking, she was good. Girl is a triple threat af, and has only become more so in my absence. But I’ve been watching her since she couldn’t stop giggling and could barely put a sentence together, and this role doesn’t fit the Sora I know. It was written for Chigi. I wish this wasn’t her last lead. I wish I’d sat in the theater for her one more time and burst with joy before everything changed.

Moonlighting rewatch, S1E1: Pilot 
So, you know how a lot of television shows can’t really be judged by the first one or two episodes? Moonlighting is certainly one of them. The first episode, which is simply titled “Pilot,” originally aired as an ABC Sunday Night Movie, therefore, there is a lot of set up. The opening scenes play out much more like a standard action crime movie common from the mid 80s. The main mystery centers around a wrist watch (that’s not really a wrist watch) a World War II pilot, and a cache of smuggled Nazi diamonds.
After the perfunctory set up for the crime, we are introduced to Madeline “Maddie“ Hayes, a fashion model, as illustrated by a slow camera pan over several magazine covers, advertisements, and portraits (many taken from Cybill Shepherd‘s early and later modeling career). All is not well in the Hayes home, however, as Maddie discovers that her accountant has milked her dry and taken off with all of her liquid assets. Her lawyer tells her not all hope is lost; she still has several businesses that she was invested in. However, most are losing money and were solely intended to be tax write offs—one of which is the City of Angels Detective Agency.
That’s where we meet the wonderfully daffy Agnes DiPesto and her boss, the wise-cracking, too-cool-for-school private investigator, David Addison. He, of course flirts and lays on the charm, only to be crushed when Maddie declares that he is fired and the business is being shut down. He calls her a cold hearted bitch, she slaps him, and the first step in “enemies to friends to lovers” has been engaged. 
David later tracks Maddie down and pleads for the agency to be rescued, but soon they are both entangled in the mystery of the stolen wrist watch and now two murders. This, of course will be set up for the resurrection of the detective agency, and the off the charts chemistry of this comedic, crime solving duo.
Also, remember how many of us who remember the show from the mid-80s will tell modern Tumblr users that the show did not age very well? Yeah there is definitely some old-fashioned sexism. David’s flirtations border on sexual harassment, the way to flatter a woman is not by mistaking her for Playboy’s Miss March 1976, and he definitely has an issue with taking no for an answer. He certainly takes advantage for his own purposes, primarily to save his detective agency, while placing he and Maddie in danger more than once.
Highlights from the first episode:
The mohawk punk rocker that chases down the wristwatch and later gets stabbed for his trouble is fairly recognizable for a lot of 70s bad guy roles, particularly as one of the lead bad guy greasers in the musical Grease.
When Maddie’s chef Andre quits, there’s a hilarious sequence where he illustrates the difference between bouncing and not bouncing. “See this plate? *smashes on floor* No bouncy! This check? Bouncy bouncy bouncy!”
The comically long greeting Agnes gives when she answers the phone for City of Angels detective agency.
The puns, right off the bat, the puns: “Ms. DiPesto, you’re looking rather pail.”
The elevator chase (trust me, you’ll understand when you see it) is both suspenseful and ridiculous.
The bad guy with the glasses (besides, of course, the nazi) is probably one of the creepier villains I remember in sometime.
Heads up, remember, this is an old show so it is still in 4:3 aspect ratio, which they maintain on Hulu.
The one time that the famous Moonlighting theme song by Al Jarreau is during the closing credits, not at the top of the show. 
Feel free to post your own thoughts on this first episode, and we’ll see how things change in episode two, as Moonlighting becomes more established as a TV show and not a weekend made for TV mystery movie.

I can't help but notice that back in the first episode, Walker referred to Sam and Bucky as "Cap's wingmen" to Sam, implying that he doesn't really view the relationship between them as anything but this. He sees the Captain as the show and his backup as sidekicks. As much as Walker did genuinely care for Lemar, he also treated him like this in the group settings the whole show. He does all the talking, doesn't introduce Lemar to Sam and Bucky, who have to ask him who he is. Lemar could temper Walker a bit but Walker still sees himself as the show and Lemar a tool to help with his success more than anything else. Why does this matter in the context of Sam and Bucky?
Because John uses the word 'partner' to Bucky twice in reference to Sam and this implies that he can tell that Sam and Bucky roll differently than he does and treat one another differently. But Walker thinks this is dumb because Sam doesn't have the serum and Bucky is stronger physically. He doesn't get why Bucky doesn't act like Walker himself does-- in the leadership role, with Sam following as his wingman.
Bucky replies that Sam has dealt with worse than Karli (and clearly, ironically, means The Winter Soldier in part here, plus Thanos, etc.) He is making it clear that he doesn't see Sam as lesser than him because he's not a supersoldier-- that it isn't all about brute force. In saying this, he's saying that Sam has strengths to bring to the table that are not super physical strength and Bucky respects them. (By contrast, try to imagine Walker recognizing that Lemar had similar strengths. Imagine him saying it aloud, in front of other soldiers, including ones who were objectively physically stronger than him. Impossible, right?) Just by saying this, Bucky is showing another kind of strength that he possesses that John does not-- he's man enough to be a good, respectful partner. Which brings us to that word...
Bucky adds that Sam isn't his partner. This can be read a lot of different ways and has several overlapping meanings that are all probably a bit correct. On one level, he is saying they aren't working together as partners. (Even if the show has proved they are.) They still haven't really defined what it is they're doing together to one another and like hell is Bucky going to let John Walker be the one to label it, right? On another level, saying Sam isn't his partner is saying he doesn't view it that way because he is actually there to back up Sam. He's following Sam. Sam might see Bucky as a partner (even if they haven't discussed this) but Bucky might see it more as his role to back Sam up, similar to how he backed up Steve during the war. Sam, likely, wants to be more partners and has been allowing Bucky that space-- it is what they have evolved into-- but it isn't as clearly defined between them yet. But there's also the other use of it...
Walker, the physical embodiment of toxic masculinity, is attempting to bully Bucky a little, using words because he can't possibly best him physically at this point. The use of 'partner' from Walker comes off as aggressively sexual so here is a case of Walker being that asshole on the football team that we all know he was, trying to look bigger and tougher and more macho through thinly-veiled harassment of guys around him who dared to be comfortable with backing each other up and showing any caring openly. It is worth noting here that we have seen Sam and Bucky's whole evolution in the works here but Walker was just shown two guys he had no idea were arguing with one another because they put up a completely unified front in front of him. To Walker, this all is a little much for him and he tries to slander it by implying that it is gay, which he sees as not masculine.
Bucky denies being Sam's partner here for the already mentioned reasons regarding how they work together and that kind of partnership but make no mistake, he knew exactly what Walker was saying. So, another way of interpreting it is that Bucky was answering not in terms of the field work (where they do act as partners, really, even if Bucky might still be viewing it as something a little different... and, if he is, I hope Sam sets him straight on this being equal footing)... but I think Bucky was answering it regarding the sexual/romantic partners that Walker was trying to call them. But he did so in a way that is protective of Sam and makes him, ironically, a good partner.
Bucky is the character, remember, whose experience in the modern world included testing out and not minding casually outing himself as interested in men in the first episode, to a woman he was on a date with, no less. This isn't to say he's torn off the closet door from the era he grew up in in which he would have had to have been into men in secret. One thing he does get though is this kind of asshole like Walker that has sadly not evolved since the 30s. He responds in a way that he means to be protective of Sam, which is to say with his tone essentially "no, John, actually we are just like this because we aren't assholes like you and even if we were, we would still be better than you." But even if you think Bucky and Sam are already a thing by this episode or are aware of each other's potential feelings, Bucky isn't denying it to Walker as if it's something that makes then vulnerable or lesser as men. He doesn't have the same definition of it as Walker does.
Bucky is responding in a way where his tone says he gets what Walker was implying, thinks Walker is shit for not having a clue when it comes to what being a man is, and then casually answers the question as if Walker had meant field partners because, of course, that's what he meant, right? He makes Walker look stupid (which he is) by answering with word choice that says he didn't get the insinuation, even if his tone says he totally did. So, why not just be like "and so what if we were fucking, Walker! We still could kick your dumb ass anyday!"? Because Sam.
Because Bucky, who knows what it is like to be a soldier forced to sometimes be around guys like Walker, likely does not yet know how Sam approaches it. He likely doesn't know if Sam is out. The canon plays it as if literally everyone just assumes Bucky is bi or gay or basically anything that isn't straight but Sam is a different story. Bucky is not about to out Sam in front of everybody. He likely doesn't know yet how out Sam even is with others or how he feels about it. Out of respect for Sam, he's not about to let Walker's attempt at deriding them get anywhere. They literally could have been sleeping together for awhile now and Bucky is still not going to do anything about others knowing, least of all John Walker, unless or until that is what Sam wants and based on the canon, I would doubt very much if that had been a conversation they've already had by Ep 4.
But Walker, the terrifying awful dumb fuck, tries it again later-- this time, not in front of Sam. He saw what Bucky was doing, understood it, was embarrassed by Bucky making him look like a fool so what does he do? He bullies again. He goes at the core of Bucky in the way only the worst bullies can. He does it when Sam had to be in there alone, with a supersoldier, and Bucky is confident in Sam and giving him the space to do his thing, and then Walker lashes out at this less macho and violent plan to Bucky, calling Sam Bucky's partner again, trying to twist a knife by saying how could Bucky leave Sam in there and does he want his blood on his hands?
It's unspeakably cruel. But you might me mistaken if you think Bucky gave in here, even if it was a worry he had as he always worries for Sam because he cares and he has lost so many people and hurt so many that thinking about it happening again hurts him deeply. Bucky didn't verbally respond to Walker's taunts-- he did something much stronger than words could convey.
He didn't deny any definition of partner for Sam to Walker and he let Walker see how cruel he was by tearing up a bit, the pain in his eyes. Walker had no idea what to do with this. He had been trying to make Bucky angry. Instead, Bucky is silently strong enough to show how he feels *without* masking it all behind a macho, angry cover like Walker. Bucky's face says it all: yeah, you asshole, I love him. Yeah, I'm worried I could hurt him and have his blood on my hands. But also yeah, I survived being the Winter Soldier-- in general and just recently-- and I go to therapy now and I'm making amends and I'm free. Freer than you will ever be because which one of us will tear up and be a little afraid for another man and show him open care in this episode and which one will respond to pain with violence that begets nothing but more trauma and pain? Which one of us, Walker, is a brainwashed soldier and which one of us is a strong, decent man trying to be a good friend and partner? Which one of us, by the end of the episode, will make his partner feel like he'd take the serum in a heartbeat and which one of us will respond to his partner's fear at being vulnerable with "I'm going with you"?
He didn't speak a word in that scene but man. Whew. When it comes to toxic bullies?
Bucky Barnes can do this all day.

The first time was an impromptu experiment. Of course, Dean already knew Sam had a crush on you; he raised the kid for crying out loud. That and the way Sam had stumbled over his own tongue and feet the first time they encountered you (and nearly every time thereafter) made it quite obvious to everyone… well, except you, apparently. Regardless, Dean figured it was just the case of a simple crush and poor Sammy being unable to match his finesse with the ladies.
So when the three of you came across a sleazy police captain, who was in no way shy about having the hots for you, during a rugaru hunt in Nebraska, Dean was rather taken aback by his brother’s unusual reaction.
Strolling into the Omaha police department with you and Sam on either side, the older Winchester had identified the captain immediately from his picture online.
“Captain Anderson,” Dean addressed the man directly in a low, authoritative tone, “I’m Agent Parker, and these are my partners Agents Stan and Lee.” He motioned to his right and left side as he introduced you, accordingly, pausing as you flashed your fake badges in unison.
The captain was a tall, slightly rotund fellow, with a mustache to rival an 80’s porn star’s, and he scoffed haughtily at your entrance. “What the hell do the feds want with us? And did they really hafta send three of ya?” He gestured pointedly at you with a patronizing raise of his chin and your blood began to boil at the implicitly misogynistic remark.
“Well no offense, Captain,” you spoke up; your FBI get-up always gave you an extra boost of confidence (something about the power suit vibes you supposed), plus men like him really pissed you off, “but there have been five deaths here within the last week, and from what I understand, your team has a grand total of zero working theories and just as many leads, so perhaps you can understand why the government would show some concern.”
“Mm, mm, mm!” Captain Anderson chanted obnoxiously in response. He gave you a painfully slow once-over, eyes filled with a crude and unrestrained lechery that forced a shiver down your spine. “A woman who knows how to take charge… I like that,” he licked his lips lasciviously.
Dean was torn between awaiting your likely ruthless and epic comeback or telling the douchebag off himself when he heard Sam clear his throat forcedly beside him. Looking over, he was surprised to find his giant of a little brother to be a picture of rage. Strained jaw, clenched fists, distended chest, and a murderous glare directed unwaveringly at the Omaha police captain.
Meanwhile, you were finding it difficult to resist the urge to roll your eyes and repress your temper to maintain a professional front. “We need information and clearance,” you stated firmly, ignoring the cop’s inappropriate and debaucherous display, “Are you going to hand it over or not?”
“Sorry little miss, no can do! You’re prolly gonna hafta talk to the chief if you want in on a big boy case like this one… but, you know, I can think of some ways you might be able to convince me otherwise,” he finished with a lewd wink before taking off.
Sam looked like he was about to lunge at the captain, but Dean put a hand on his arm to ground him. He was starting to suspect Sam’s behavior might have more to do with you than the fact that the captain was a regular dickhead. After all, Sam was usually the calmer and more rational of the brothers, especially during hunts.
You were too busy holding yourself back to notice though, staring daggers into Anderson’s back as you watched him walk away.
“What an asshole. I’m sorry, Y/N,” Dean began. An idea was forming in his head, one that could help him test his theory. “Look, you know I wouldn’t ask this if there was a better way, but dyou think, maybe, just this once, you could… you know? Turn on the charm a bit? Just so we can get in?”
Sam had not been fully engaged in the conversation until just then, too focused on trying to mollify the inexplicable rage that Captain Anderson had incited within him, but Dean’s request certainly caught his attention.
“What?! Dean! You can’t be serious. No. We’ll find another way. Just- No.” Sam’s voice was harder and deeper than usual and for a moment you lost yourself in it, daydreaming that perhaps he was exhibiting a sense of jealously. But who were you kidding? Sam was just a nice guy who detested sexist pricks like Anderson; this had nothing to do with you.
“No, it’s fine. Dean’s right. This is the easiest way. I’ll do it,” you stated quietly before adding with a small smile, “I can suck it up on account of saving some lives.”
Dean grinned and you walked away before Sam could protest any further. When you reached the captain’s office, you didn’t bother knocking on the open door, “Alright, Captain Anderson-“
“Please, call me Frank.” He looked up at you with such a smug and revolting expression, you decided there was no way you could follow through with Dean’s plan.
“Listen, Frank,” you crossed your arms in what you hoped was an ‘I mean business’ stance, but quickly dropped them when you realized the action had unwittingly highlighted your cleavage in the button-down blouse you were wearing and spurred yet another round of gratuitous leering from Frank. “What’s it gonna take for you to hand over the case files and grant us full access to the evidence and crime scenes?”
“Well, since I like you, I’ll make it easy for ya. How about we start with a smile?” He had leaned forward in his seated position behind his desk as he spoke, and you almost smacked him right then.
As you turned to leave, however, it was Anderson who smacked you, open palmed and right on the ass. You forced yourself to take a deep breath before slowly turning back around. Keeping your movements deliberate and unhurried, you bent over his desk, ignoring the impulse to gag at the greasy, utterly unholy scent that filled your nostrils as you got close enough to whisper in his ear, “You know what, I’ll make it easy for you too. How about, if you give my partners and I complete authorization on this case, I won’t report you to the feds for sexual harassment? See, I know people in the upper ranks and I’ve got a lawyer who wipes the floor with guys like you on the daily.” It was all lies, of course, but you figured it was for a good cause.
“So what’s it gonna be, Captain?” You asked after straightening yourself back up.
As you’d hoped, the bastard was looking a little worse for wear, though you could tell he was trying to retain what little he could of his arrogant persona. “You little bitch.”
“That’s not an answer.”
“Fine. You can have it,” he pointed at a stack of file folders on his desk, and then sighed as he produced three security passes, “Go crazy! Go fuck yourself.”
“Gladly,” you sassed, ready to strut out of there with everything you came for in hand.
Behind you, things had not gone so smoothly. When Sam saw Anderson slapping your butt, he was fully prepared to march over and break the captain’s nose, but Dean again held him back, “Woah, hey, you know Y/N can handle herself. What’s up with you?”
Then when he was forced to watch you lean in tantalizingly close and whisper something in Anderson’s ear, Sam experienced an entirely foreign sensation. He was still burning with fury, but that anger was joined by a peculiar ache. His heart had risen to his throat as he stood there, completely transfixed, a look of dejection and longing written across his face.
‘Huh,’ Dean had thought with an internal smirk, ‘Sammy’s got it ba-ad!’ he sing-song-ed in his own head, storing the information away for later, when he could find an opportune moment to tease his baby brother about it.
For now, Dean gave you two thumbs up as he watched you return with a triumphant grin, holding up three official passes by their lanyards.
“Got it all. We’re completely in,” you supplied each brother a security pass when you reached them.
“Damn. You are good, woman! What did you even say to him?” Dean chuckled as the three of you left the station.
“Oh nothing, just a bit of light threatening.”
Sam stopped to look at you quizzically. “Wait, what? You mean you didn’t- you weren’t… flirting with him?”
“Nah, I was too appalled by the thought to go down that route.”
“Oh,” he huffed out, looking down with drooped shoulders and an awkward twitch of a smile. You could have sworn he looked somewhat relieved, but decided not to read too much into it, too pleased with yourself to allow the ever-growing gloom of your unrequited love dampen your spirits.
The whole time Dean was staring back at the two of you in disbelief. ‘These goddamn idiots,’ he thought with an exasperated yet slightly amused shake of his head.

Tried to make a brief summary of the issues of Mass Effect Andromeda’s handling of queer men and how it relates to why we’re (broad use here) upset with the Legendary Edition failing to provide better representation than the originals, and it kinda turned in to what amounts to an open letter for BioWare.
So, what the heck, here it is.
A little personal background. I spent my high school life completely in the closet. After graduating, I had a new computer and the opportunity to play a new game. The game chosen was BioWare’s Jade Empire. Still a fairly recent release, and I was a big fan of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, also by BioWare. So, being a young gay man, still uncomfortable and uncertain of who I was, I was very excited when I got to play this game that would allow me to play a gay romance, a romance that featured two men. I burned through two playthroughs of the game within less than a week, enjoying that rush of acknowledgement that yes, gay guys could be the hero. It was a massive affirmation for me at the time, something that said that my sexuality was not going to prevent me from being the hero, which legitimately was a message that I felt like most media was giving me to that point, because gay men barely appeared in anything other than guest roles for an episode or two on a TV show, but certainly not in video games. That game, that experience... I’ve said for years that it had cemented me as a BioWare fan for life.
If I say that now, it is a statement with a few caveats.
The history of the failure of Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 to provide any male/male romances is well documented. I was excited, very eager to romance Kaidan Alenko in Mass Effect 3. But even then, I noticed that there were things that were lacking in the romance. It was noticeable, for instance, that the basic dialogue between male Shepard and female Shepard was unchanged, if either was starting a new romance with Kaidan. The thing that always felt... WRONG about that was that if I’d had the option to begin a romance with him in the first game, I would have. Yet there’s not even a bit of dialogue that even references that inability, no comment of “I didn’t think you were available,” or anything of the sort, nothing to say that, say, Shepard was interested in Kaidan at the time, but didn’t believe he’d be receptive, didn’t want to damage their friendship, something of the sort. There was even a cut in the romance scene, where female Shepard will sit in Kaidan’s lap before being lifted up and carried to the bed, but with male Shepard and Kaidan, just fades to black. And then in the Citadel DLC, while all the other pairings walked in to the casino arm in arm, male Shepard and Kaidan are leaving plenty of room between them. There’s also the absence of any cuddling as they return to the Normandy.
To say nothing of the lack of Steve Cortez during the story segments of Citadel – he is not part of the big team entrance to the apartment, just spontaneously appears in the lounge room. He doesn’t participate in the briefings, and he is not a casino date, despite being part of the assembled team. Cortez also suffers from the fact that his romance spends so much time on how he needs to move on from the death of his husband, Shepard can come across as predatory towards him, trying to push him out of his grief and his pants. Due to the lateness of his arrival in the story, in game three, as opposed to game one or two, there is significantly less time to establish him as a person – beyond his past as a pilot and the death of his husband, we gain almost no concept of his personality or personal history.
I bring all of this up to help set the stage of what was expected when Mass Effect Andromeda was nearing release. Mass Effect had been full of problems of representation of queer men specifically (not that they were perfect on the count of female/female relationships either, because there’s plenty to talk about there, but as I’m not a lesbian or bisexual woman, I don’t feel comfortable talking about their experiences for them). While there were flaws, Dragon Age, what is often considered Mass Effect’s sister franchise, HAD managed to provide male/male romances in every iteration of that franchise.
In fact, considering that Dragon Age’s most recent installment, Dragon Age Inquisition, had been put out with a lot of fanfare about the first gay male companion, who was considered rather popular in the fandom, and the game itself receiving the Game of the Year award that year, indicating that, if there was any risk in the business sense of providing representation of queer men, it was negligible at most in the bottom line of that game, the attitude of a lot of gay men in the lead up to Andromeda’s release was some variation of “okay, Mass Effect has been flawed, but BioWare’s learned from their past mistakes, and they’re coming off the heels of a hugely successful game that had a gay character whose gayness was front and center in his storyline... We can expect that things will be fine, and we don’t have to worry.” That was the dominant attitude I found in a lot of my queer-oriented spaces.
But we started getting uncomfortable as the developers remained cagey about romance options in Andromeda – there were Twitter responses to “we’re concerned about Mass Effect’s history of gay representation, we would like to know about the options” that came out as “we checked and yep! They’re there!” These responses came across as flippant and even tone-deaf – the reason that the question was being asked was because of prior failures to be included, and not simply a desire to get all the details before launch.
As the trailers started coming out, the questions continued from the fans, and the response from the developers... continued to be uncomfortable. When asked directly for a listing of romances prior to release, the response was that the developers wanted players to learn as they played, that “the fun is in experiencing it!” This was a specific response when it was learned that the romance options could be flirted with regardless of orientation, but they would shut it down. Despite the fact that the trailers DID include content from certain romances – specifically, the male Ryder/Cora and male Ryder/Peebee romances.
This was uncomfortable for a lot of queer players like myself because it spoke to a lack of consideration of what it is like to be queer. In many places, it is a serious question of safety to even put yourself out there to find a partner, to flirt with someone openly unless you are already certain that there is a chance for a positive response. There are places where a queer person flirting with the wrong person can get them harassed, assaulted, even killed for doing so. Even in the safety of a virtual construct of video games, these are honed instincts that queer people have developed. And no matter how many times we would say this to the developers, no one seemed to understand. Likewise, the fact that the trailers felt free to show off heterosexual romances, but not queer ones felt... questionable.
Then, finally, firm details started coming out, and... There were problems. Early data-mining said that there was an even split of romances between orientations. But there was a bit of discomfort around the reveal that the gay characters, Suvi and Gil, were limited to the ship, rather than being companions who would accompany Ryder on missions. There is a history of companions being given more involved storylines and involvement than secondary characters. It also didn’t help the disappointment from queer people who’d been eager for Cora or Liam as romances, who were firmly established as straight (Cora herself had a popular lesbian following).
That discomfort increased when it came out further that, ACTUALLY, Jaal would not be available for Male Ryder. This caused a lot of upset. Now it was a case where there was NO M/M squadmate romance option. This on top of the group of fans who were uncomfortable with the idea that, in a sci-fi series, gay men couldn’t romance an alien, while this had become a staple of the series, considering Liara, the character from a species described as equivalent to Star Trek green-skinned Orion girls, had been available for straight men and lesbian/bi women from ME1, and straight women got in on the act with Garrus and Thane in ME2, on top of straight men also getting Tali.
This got worse when the achievement listing for the game was released and there was an achievement for “romancing three different characters.” Meaning that it was absolutely impossible for a gay man to play the game and get this achievement without playing a sexuality other than his own.
This is why I led with my experience with Jade Empire, why it was so affirming to me. Because to hear all this, ten years later, to see what had been so affirming to me a decade prior be functionally dismissed, be shown to take a secondary position at best... It hurt.
And the game proper did not help that feeling at all.
So first we meet Gil Brodie. Engineer of the Tempest. One of the first things we learn about him is that he has a close friendship with a woman named Jill. And then he immediately tells us that one) she is a fertility specialist, and two) she “says [he’s] part of the problem” because he won’t have kids the natural way. This is immediately setting off red flags to me – I can think of plenty of my friendships where we give one another grief for various things, but I would never think of introducing any of them to someone else with that fact. So my reflexive thought in this situation is “what kind of a friend is this really?”
And then, as the game goes on... This is the only thing that Gil’s conversations involve, the prospect of having kids. We do not learn much more about him, just have him talking about considering the idea. The lock-in for his romance requires Ryder to meet Jill, who Gil again says that she will talk his ear off about his “civic duty” to reproduce, a fact that makes those earlier red flags wave higher and more furiously, because who DOES that to a total stranger? And this is passed off as being “charming.” This leads to the culmination of the romance, where Gil says that Jill has decided she wants to get pregnant and she wants Gil to be the dad.
There’s... A LOT going on here, so let me work through this. First, one of the few things Gil says as a bit of establishing his character is that he is impulsive, that he joined the Andromeda Initiative, the journey from the Milky Way galaxy to the Andromeda galaxy without really thinking through what it would mean, that it was a one-way journey with no way to back out once he’d gotten there. So this is already saying to me that this is not a person who really SHOULD be a parent, at least at this point in his life.
We also get a couple of emails from him in-game that paint him as putting in thirty-six hour workdays into the engines on the Tempest, that he cares about and puts a lot of time into those engines. So when I think about him as a father, I see him having to give up something he’s deeply passionate about to do it, because the Tempest is certainly no place to raise a child – they can’t exactly put a playpen in the cargo hold, for example.
This would be one of the first things that I would think of as a discussion element, but... it’s not there. All that we get is a couple of casual comments about how Gil should know that bringing a child into the world is a big thing, something that shouldn’t be done lightly. But this is framed as Ryder questioning Gil’s fitness to be a parent at all, rather than questioning if he’s thinking this through and having considered this enough to be ready to take on this responsibility, or if it’s even something that he even wants.
Because that’s the other big thing here – this is not Gil’s idea. This is not something that he makes clear is his desire. No, it’s Jill who has decided that she wants to get pregnant and use Gil’s sperm. For all that he matters in this whole thing, he might as well be a turkey baster. He’s basically an accessory in his own story, because he goes in to this with all the passion of a math equation: “The Andromeda Initiative is a colonization effort. Therefore, the idea is to have babies. Therefore, I should find some way to reproduce.” This isn’t him having a passion or desire to have kids, just it being “something you do.”
This is, genuinely, a failure to understand the character who was being written. Gil’s writing reeks of having been written by someone who does not know what they are talking about. There is an element to the gay experience that is not innate but learned. When we realize that having children is not a thing that will just happen, that if we want this to happen, it will require a lot of additional steps, there are many who will simply say “this isn’t for me, this is more work than I’m willing to put in to for this.”
Now, Gil could have been someone who had decided it was worth it, but that butts up against the idea of him being impulsive, that he doesn’t think things through. There is no time given to focusing on the reason he decides this is the right choice for him, to the point that many players felt that this was not Gil’s decision but something that Jill was pushing, that she expected him to jump on her command. Because we have so little of Gil, as a character and an individual, but plenty of him talking up her, this “friendship” feels toxic to many.
Just about everyone I have ever spoken with about Gil is deeply uncomfortable that literally, the only way that he will not have a child at this point is if a romanced Ryder stops him – if I am playing a game where I don’t romance him, I actively just stop interacting with him at a certain point so that this never comes up, because this does not come across as happy. It comes across as forcing a gay man into a heteronormative experience to satisfy some traditional idea of “man and woman, raising kids.”
And, as the cherry on top, if you do tell Gil that you’re not comfortable having kids – a very real thing, whether gay or straight – then, unlike other romances, Gil and Ryder do not share a kiss at the finale of the game. And, during the last conversations on Meridian, the only thing Gil even brings up is Jill being pregnant, whether or not it’s his child.
This is what “representation of gay men” amounted to in Mass Effect Andromeda. A homophobic story that was about a gay experience written by someone who is not a part of this community and does not know or understand the experience personally, going through the motions of development when really, all that is cared about is the end result. To say that most of the gay men I know who have played this game find this homophobic is to undersell the point.
It doesn’t help that, of all the Tempest romances, Gil also clocks in with the least amount of romance exclusive material – a few flirts, the romance lock in and scene, and being able to stop Gil from having kids. Other than that, his friendship and his romance are virtually identical.
Speaking of, the romance scene consists of a make out session that fades to black, before coming back in with Ryder and Gil, shot from about shoulders up, briefly wrapping up their conversation that preceded the fade to black. This is noteworthy when the heterosexual romances between Ryder and their human love interests, as well as Peebee and Jaal, the former having a similar body model to naked human women, just blue, and Jaal, who is naked at other points in the game, have much more involved romance scenes – Cora’s in specific received special attention.
All of this, individually, may have just been reflective of time crunch and other external pressures – we all understand the realities of game development, that for all the ambitions that go in, when the deadlines are nearing, something has to give. But taken collectively... The kindest question is to ask why all of the “give” happened in regards to the gay man?
The end result with Gil honestly feels like he was written in response to the bad faith arguments that had come up in the period after the name for the game was revealed and it was made clear that the game would follow a colonization effort. There were a contingent of people who said that “there shouldn’t be gay people coming along, a colonization effort needs to reproduce.” This is a bad faith argument from homophobes, trying to justify why they don’t want gay people in “their” games. In answering their question, the question they only “ask” in order to explain why they don’t want to have gay people in the game without saying that, it comes across as catering the gay content for a heterosexual audience. It should go without saying that this is a bad position to take.
So, that’s Gil. What about Reyes? Well, Reyes himself is bound to a single planet, which, again, points to a minimizing of how much content he will even get, since his content can only be accessed on this single planet. Likewise, Reyes, as a character, is someone who falls in to several old, tired tropes with regards to bisexual men – he is a shady, untrustworthy character, in this instance literally a criminal, meant to be evocative of the “dashing rogue” archetype. This is a characterization that has often been BioWare’s go-to with regards to bisexual men, because we see this archetype drawn on in Jade Empire’s Sky, Dragon Age Origins’ Zevran, Dragon Age 2’s Anders, and even elements exist in Dragon Age Inquisition’s Dorian (even if he is a gay man). It’s a well that BioWare has frequently tapped when it comes to a romance option for queer men, to the point that it starts to feel like BioWare in general believes that this IS what queer men are.
There’s also the questionable portrayal of Reyes that leads to a description of the trope “the depraved bisexual,” an explicitly bisexual character who uses sex and sexuality as a manipulative tool, that they treat others as simply there to be their toys. Over in Dragon Age Inquisition, one of the romance options was specifically NOT made bisexual in order to avoid this trope, but Reyes himself seems to be a candidate for that trope all the same.
All this, and, again, the romance options for gay men were unequal to those for everyone else. This prompted the campaign #MakeJaalBi – Jaal was, notably, the character initially assumed to be the bisexual male companion, and on release, his romance was heterosexual exclusive. But datamining revealed that there was code for him to be romanced by male Ryder. Indeed, on release, it was noteworthy that Jaal could not even be flirted with by male Ryder. Liam had a distinct turndown for male Ryder, a couple of them, depending on when Ryder flirts with him. Jaal had no such turndown.
And this worked. BioWare released the patch for Andromeda that gave Jaal a bisexual romance. However, this was the only change that Mass Effect Andromeda received in regards to the issues of the romances before support for the game ended. While it was seen as an improvement, it was also questioned why this was the only change, when... Well, I spent the better part of two pages outlining the problems of Gil’s portrayal.
(I feel I would be remiss to not mention there was also a character, Hainley Abrams, who would, upon interacting with her, proceed to deadname herself to Ryder, as if that is the only way to establish that a transgender person is trans. This was also changed in a patch after the trans community complained, and, in conjunction with the above, led more than a few people to wonder if the Andromeda script had been looked over by any queer sensitivity readers, given the earlier issues with Gil. This does go out of the scope of everything else in this discussion, but it is worth mentioning.)
When Mac Walters says players will talk about how Shepard is each of theirs, that every individual player approaches Shepard as being “their” Shepard, he isn’t wrong. He says the characters, and the relationships we have with the characters is the heart and soul of the series, he isn’t wrong. And yet... When I play the trilogy, my heart and soul are being torn apart, because I do not get to see myself in the trilogy. I am not there in this story, at least for two thirds of the way. And in that third that I am there, I feel like I am cared about less than my counterparts who are heterosexual.
The idea that “making” characters available for same sex romance changes them is like saying that there is some inherent difference in a person because of their sexualities. While it’s true that the experiences of queer people does offer different perspectives on matters, it does not fundamentally alter the person, the individual that we are. It does not change our heart and soul. Restoring the bisexuality of characters like Jack, Jacob, Ashley, Thane, or Tali is not changing who they are. Making Kaidan bisexual in ME3 did not change who he was, and restoring a romance between him and male Shepard in ME1 would not change him either.
Every game has some cut content surrounding queer content specifically, and a great deal of that content is specifically for gay players like myself. I said at the beginning that I once thought of myself as a BioWare fan for life, but that now comes with caveats. The caveats are pretty simple – while the games produced by BioWare once felt affirming, now they feel like they’re only grudgingly allowing me to be there. That if I must be there, I should just take the scraps I’m given and be content with that, rather than being treated as an equal.
I like to think that this is not the message that the people at BioWare wish to impart to their players. I like to believe BioWare’s statements of wanting to be an inclusive and welcoming environment for their players, regardless of gender, race, sexuality, orientation, whatever identity and label one chooses. But based on the experience of the last four games, of the Legendary Edition perpetuating the homophobia of over a decade ago... I have a hard time believing that.
BioWare games once made me feel like I was equal to the straight heroes across my media. Unfortunately, I don’t feel that way about their games anymore. Not when, after having the opportunity to restore the bisexuality of Kaidan – of multiple characters, really – in the Legendary Edition, I am still being told that offering representation for people like me is something that only comes grudgingly.
And if that’s what I see now... What does it say about what the future of the franchise will offer? If every game in this series involves fighting for content that, in particular, heterosexual players will see offered as the rule, what motivates me to want to continue to be invested and involved in this franchise?

Everything Wrong with WW84
SPOILET ALERT!!!
Like everyone else, I went into this movie with a high expectation because of how much I loved the first one, the politics, the teamwork, the message, and of course Diana and Steve. But I left the movie feeling very, very disappointed.
The Villains
The movie introduces Barbara as a nerdy, awkward girl who’s a social outcast. Diana was quick to be friends with her and even helped her when she was sexually harassed in the park. Barbara wishes to the magic stone to be Diana and the next day she’s hot because she took off her glasses while wearing tight outfits and heels.
Enter Maxwell Lord who Barbara just happens to fall in love with after one night boning him. Maxwell Lord is a failing businessman who’s desperate to get rich. Now this guy isn’t some god, he’s just a normal human whose nature is supposedly to second guess anything “magic” but boy did he go to lengths to get that stone. Then the moment he got the magic stone, he decided to become the magic stone himself instead of just directly wishing to the stone to be instantly rich.
He then proceeded to find wealthy and powerful men to beg them to make a wish to him. Then somehow after they made their wish, he gets to steal something of theirs, all while bleeding from his nose and ears. People were also lining up to have him grant their wish. At this point I’m lost as to why he needed to be the stone, and why he needed wealthy men to make a wish to him??
Long story short, Barbara who is now hot and has a dying magic boyfriend was willing to fight her only friend, Diana. How incredibly tone-deaf of Patty Jenkins to pit women against each other because of looks and a man. Also she become a cheetah somehow, nothing to do with the plot. Also, somehow city girl Barbara is as strong and quick in a battle as Diana who fought a god and had years and years of training in the Amazon.
A hero is only as good as their villains. I need Patty Jenkins to take a look at The Dark Knight trilogy as an example.
The Plot
The main plot here revolves around a magic stone that grants your wish but takes something precious from you. No definite rules were set on how much is given and how much is taken.
If by theory, the stone takes away something precious of someone who made a wish to it, does these stolen ‘precious things’ go to Maxwell Lord? If Diana was losing her powers because of her wish, does that mean Maxwell Lord is gaining Diana’s powers? What if someone wishes for Maxwell Lord’s eternal health? Or if someone wishes for Diana to have her superpower back? At this point, I had a hard time trying to fill in the blanks by myself and the movie is doing a pretty terrible job at trying to show how it works.
The Characters
If there’s anything that I loved most in the first movie, it’s the characters. Diana’s fish-out-of-the-water arc, Diana learning how to love, Steve longing to experience a normal life, Steve and Diana fighting about battle strategies because of their different backgrounds, the team that fought alongside them in the war, singing, dancing, saving each other. WW84 has none of this. Zero.
WW84 introduced Diana as closed off and jaded because she couldn’t move on from Steve. I would imagine anyone in Diana’s shoes would be mourning not only Steve but also the rest of the team. I would imagine Diana to have a little bit of resentment towards Steve for basically deciding to die. I wanted Diana to be more selfish, to want Steve to stay this time, which the movie did, but that was all and Steve died, again. The message is basically, a hero only lives for everyone else and not themselves, that they can’t even have the one thing that is precious to them, which is honestly so, so depressing. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. Nobody wants to see a hero who suffered all their lives to.. keep suffering.
If they wanted to take Diana’s powers, the right way to do it is to make her win even without her powers. Make her cheat, make her make use of her surroundings, make her put years of trainings to use, make her fight for the sake of the good humans despite the amount of greedy humans. Diana is a hero because she’s compassionate and empathetic, not her Amazon powers. Diana isn’t Wonder Woman because of her superpowers.
Now let’s talk about Steve.
I won’t say anything about the fact that they put him in someone else’s body, instead of making him a body of his own, and having seggs with Diana right after, and then proceeded to die again for Diana’s character development (how the tables have turned). I believe everyone is already frustrated with this lmao.
Well, Steve in WW84 is just.. blank. Like a cardboard cutout. He’s so ready to die again, he didn’t second guess himself, he wasn’t frustrated, he’s Diana’s forever wingman, but hey he loves planes so it’s ok I guess. NOT.
Like Diana, Steve was a hero in his own way. He was forced to do what he did in the first movie (being a spy, etc.) If you give him everything he has ever wanted, Diana, the world without war, work 9 to 5, eat breakfast, dance, wouldn’t it have been more interesting to ask him if he’d die to save ‘today’ again?
I wanted him to be conflicted about it, to be greedy, to want to stay, because the Steve that we knew, though compassionate, was actually scared of death, and all his life, has always longed to experience a normal life. I wanted him to find ways to get Diana’s power back without putting him in the equation. Because Steve plays dirty and he’s smart too, and most of all he wants to live. I don’t see even a flicker of these traits in him in WW84. In this movie, he only serves as a comedic relief and the tragic male lead.
All in all the biggest flaw is that WW84 forgot the core of their characters and replaced it with terrible villains and a horrendous plot.
Also Diana’s armor (swimsuit) design proves itself to be shitty yet again. In one scene she almost died from a bullet to her shoulder because her armor only protects her titty and coochie. The new armor is also practically also just a bodysuit that doesn’t do shit. Why couldn’t they make it more like Batman in the Dark Knight Trilogy.

responding to this late, so sorry about that! hopefully i’m answering the questions from the correct meme orz. onward to the salt! ( i’m an idiot because only after i answered everything did i realize you put ‘for Gonzo’, so these answers are a mix )
1. What OTP(s) in the fandom do you just not get?
Seras/Integra. 
the most famous interaction that people go nuts over is the finger-sucking scene : it’s gross, rapey and just… uncomfortable how generally this is justified in so many ways. from ‘well, it didn’t ACTUALLY happen like that, that was just through the male gaze’ to ‘it’s just fan-service, Integra wouldn’t actually force herself on Seras’ to ‘uwu lesbian / sapphic rep.’ i just don’t vibe, canonically or fandom wise - there’s a very clear power dynamic in that rendition of Integra, and generally as a whole ( not that i’m infantilizing Seras by the way ), and people really like to use the finger-sucking scene as a sort of… foundation or undeniable evidence that they are very into each other, when if that same scene was done with Walter or god-forbid, Alucard, there would be riots left and right ( clarification : Alucard TO Seras, not Integra to Alucard ). it just really hit too because irl, women go through shit like this in the workplace, being sexually assaulted / harassed by their bosses. Integra being a woman doesn’t make it less rapey.
it’s also hard to ignore the fact that Seras was ‘taken in’ without anyone asking her what she wanted ( unlike Gonzo ) on her end - idc what people say, they literally abducted her ( that creepy smile Integra gives her in the first episode when Seras is being given her uniform, or that even creepier smile when she’s sexually assaulting her : miss me with that shit ). MAYBE i’d be into it a bit more if the finger-sucking scene never happened? who knows. 
i can say i enjoy shipping them in any other way but the fandom / general way. the manga-canon had a funny thing going between them ( even the finger sucking scene hit a little different? still not okay obviously but more… idk ig lighthearted and almost troll-like, ‘here suck it. do it. doooo iiiit.’ i could appreciate that. )
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?
i know Millennium pairings aren’t popular, at least in current tumblr spaces, but Dok/Major. it was apparently a popular ship back in the day, and i still occasionally see stuff for it. i genuinely don’t get it, because i saw no kind of connection between those two that was even slightly romantic. Dok legit went ‘aight, i’m out’ when the zeppelin was shot to bits - he gave no fucks about Major lmao.
7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?
mm... maybe the dynamic between Integra/Alucard? idk, when i first watched Ultimate, no tumblr or fandom involved, i thought it was very complicated. there was definitely trust, suggestiveness, excitement, guardian-like qualities, and the list just goes on! but then i made the mistake of exposing myself to fandom spaces a bit much, and them being spoken about in a strictly romantic sense kind of annoys me now. same thing if people insist that there ISN’T romance. i’m on a high horse, but i genuinely don’t think i’ve seen many people truly understand / capture the Integra/Alucard dynamic. i roll my eyes when i see either extreme sides ( romance v. no romance ).
not that i was the biggest shipper or anything - i gave very little care for Alucard and Integra respectively, but now i just care for them even less. i literally just say ‘idk and idc’ when people ask me if i ship it.
25. How would you end XXX/Would you change the ending of XXX?
impure souls : would they have continued season 2 as planned, just continue to the canon. Integra would run the organization under the watch of the Crown, but everything else would run mostly the same. there would be interesting plot points when Integra and the Queen conflict on what to do with certain missions, and the pressure gets put on even more when they realize there’s literal Nazis behind everything. at some point, reveal that the traitor was the same guy we see in Ultimate, ergo Incognito and the whole FREAK mess was just more Millennium fuss. introduce Pip and Heinkel later on too ( as they were planned to also make an appearance in the anime as well ). i definitely wouldn’t have minded Gonzo’s take on canon, and it’d be easy to pick up from where they left off.
ultimate : everything was fine / dandy, i wouldn’t change anything except for the last minutes. this is the old, nostalgic, Walter-fangirl i once was, but since Alucard is almost close to a god ( or something ) at this point, have him lift up his cape at Integra, only to reveal that he somehow managed to take in Walter as a familiar ( unwillingly, of course ), not only that, but he’s forever stuck in his adolescent form. sort of to have the ‘gang’ back together, or something. Walter was a son of a bitch who deserved no good, but this would be a funny way to condemn him.
as far as canon goes, i am please with how things ended. it was pretty alright.

S1 E4: Saucy Deep Dives: Third Person SIngular Number
After spending the last two months watching and examining Bollywood hits, it’s been very exciting for us to introduce our audience to hits from all across South Asia. In this episode, we are thrilled to be watching a Bangladeshi favorite made by one of the most famous contemporary directors there.
Mostofa Sarwar Farooki came into the scene in the early 2000s, at a time when mainstream television and cinema largely existed either in the form of family entertainment or copy-pasted “hero’s journey” scripts made for quick consumption. 
This is where Farooki came in with his more casual and approachable filmmaking. His stories revolved around the relatable everyday struggles of ordinary people. This also meant utilizing colloquial language in his cinema (which was rare, given that the media at the time would only depict formal Bangla or a standard dialectical Bangla [for rural stories]). 
Third Person Singular Number (2009) was Farooki’s third movie, which solidified his position as one of the most notable contemporary directors in Bangladesh.
Third Person Singular Number is conceptualized as a fairytale-like story of Ruba (played brilliantly by Nusrat Imroz Tisha, Farooki’s partner, and long-time muse), who is confronted by the challenges of being a single woman in South Asia, after her partner (note, not husband lol) is sent to jail. Ruba struggles with constant harassment as she attempts to find housing and employment. The Prince Charming character of this movie comes to us in the form of Ruba’s childhood friend - Topu (a successful musician in Bangladesh, both in the movie and IRL), whose support helps in making Ruba feel safe. Her feelings for Topu force Ruba to engage with her conflicted relationship with her mother (who left her father for her lover) as well as her fidelity to her jailed partner.
One of the most remarkable things about the film is its deliberate focus on Ruba and how it centers her perspective - this is extremely apparent in the cinematography and Farooki being able to employ the feminine gaze aptly. The first half of the movie depicts at length the various ways in which women become victims of sexual assault - be it at home, in public, or in professional spaces.
There's this one scene in particular, where Ruba becomes hesitant to go to the police station as she recalls a news story from a couple of weeks ago where a woman was r*ped at one. A male gaze retelling of this would tell the audience through action - a flashback where the woman is facing violence, or perhaps when Ruba was reading the paper, or conversing about it with someone. But in this story, Farooki chose to make this woman materialize in front of Ruba and tell the story herself. Not only giving voice to an unnamed woman who had met a horrible fate, but also creating a moment of emotional connection between the two women. It humanized what is often just reduced to news headlines, statistics, or water filter conversations. There are hints throughout that she is an unreliable narrator. Resulting in the (spoiler alert!) the fairytale-esque second half of the movie. Fairytales, historical romances, and fan-fictions often serve as great mediums for social commentary, particularly on the dynamics of power (esp. geared towards women). The fact that the only escape available to Ruba from her bleak reality is an absurd Prince Charming figure speaks heavily to the harsh reality of the real Rubas of the world. For them, her ending would not be a possibility.
The use of space in the visuals of the film was also noteworthy, with Ruba being shown to feel trapped or caged in the company of predatory men (even including her own partner, whom she feels stifled by later in the film). This is often done through the use of close and medium shots, along with physical obstructions in the shot. Meanwhile, her relationship with Topu is shown to be much more affectionate and easy-going; this is depicted with a wide shot of the beautiful kashbons of Bashundhara. Not only was this technique used to remark on the state of Ruba’s mind (which is rare given that male directors rarely highlight women’s perspectives), it also commentated on the wider issue of South Asian women and how they are often made to feel small and struggle to find space (be it physically or metaphorically).
This beautiful work with space is further used to remark on the silence of the other women in the film (notably, Ruba’s cousin, friend, and mother). Unlike Ruba, the only woman with a voice (and the narrator, of course), these women are often seen in the confines of layered cage-like homes (with distinct obstructions like columns, furniture, etc. present in every layer). These characters, like their real-life counterparts, often exist in the crevices of their own homes and are stifled by the domineering presence of the patriarchal structures and insecurities around them.
The two noteworthy women characters (aside from Ruba) are her cousin and her mother. Both of whom we know very little about. However, in their fleeting moments on the screen, some of them make attempts to defy patriarchal structures around them in small but significant ways – Ruba’s mother by being courageous enough to follow her heart and leave a marriage and her cousin by helping Ruba despite her mother-in-law’s objections.
Another interesting thing is that despite Topu being Prince Charming, his character was given depth by not making him entirely selfless and sacrificial. Topu’s expectations were conveyed to the audience in a subtle but effective manner, using scenes like his outrage in the forest after Ruba backs out of having sex with him (though sex was never mentioned, only alluded to), as well as the ever-awkward buying condoms at a chemist shop (an entirely silent and secretive transaction, btw).
Ruba’s character in the film is shown to be determined, independent and tenacious even while she struggles with the oppressive realities of being a woman under patriarchy. One of the focal points of the movie is her strained relationship with her mother (who passes away, leaving no possibility of redemption or reconciliation ). The film uses an interesting technique of showing Ruba’s internal demons manifesting as younger versions of herself, hypothesized to be metaphors for her id (6-year-old Ruba), ego (present Ruba), and superego (13-year-old Ruba) as she battles over her feelings for Topu and consequently her feelings of resentment for her mother. Though her relationship with her mother is significant to Ruba’s evolution as a character, very little is shown of her mother and her motivations. Despite trying to give Ruba some semblance of closure with her mother at the end, the film falls short in creating multiple well-written women to enhance the story and the emotional connection to the characters.
We’ve also had the pleasure of having Raidah of Raidahcal on this episode. She does wonderful work addressing contemporary feminist issues in Dhaka, Bangladesh. While we all had different takes on the movie, it was wonderful to have Raidah’s unique insights and perspectives. Be sure to check her out. She also asked us a question that made us pause a bit: Why are men given passes for not portraying women's realities accurately just because they are creating sophisticated art?
And this made us realize that there is a very thin line between centering a woman's perspective in a film, versus presenting an intrusively voyeuristic gaze to watch her struggle. Ultimately if the author of the art is not able to distinguish the two for everyone watching the movie, is all that nuance pointless? This ambiguity within the film became more clear to us as we left our own echo chambers and were faced with a wonderfully challenging guest and the realization that the film is sometimes as good as the viewer wants it to be.
Even on our Sauce Meter, this film fared better than some of our previous takes. Here’s a breakdown of our scores.
1. Is there at least one character who adds a nuanced representation of a diverse South Asian identity, without stereotyping and tokenization?  
Ruba, the protagonist of the film is a complex, well-rounded character and a woman – the film also uses an unfamiliar perspective by centering the story around the experiences of a woman vs a man (which is considered the default) – but she is one of the few non-male characters that get significant screen time, so not full points.

2. Are the primary characters (especially women and marginalized characters) portrayed with agency, individuality, and motivation?
Despite Ruba being limited by the sexist nature of the social structures around her – notably her struggle to find housing and employment as a single woman, she is shown to have agency and individual motivation – she is also shown to want autonomy and finds ways to assert herself despite inhibiting circumstances.

3. Are women and marginalized characters shown to be cognizant of their identities and how they exist within the social context?
Taking half a point off because there are limited representations of women and other marginalized characters, but the glimpses we get into other women apart from Ruba all seem to be painfully aware of how their choices and abilities are limited by oppressive patriarchal structures. Notably, her cousin despite having limited control over her life and household still tries to help Ruba, and Ruba herself has several moments where she points to the tribulations of being a woman in society.

4. Do the women and marginalized characters have meaningful relationships with each other?
While the women’s relationships with each other are not given a lot of screen time, they remain focal plot points. In particular, Ruba’s relationship with her mother is instrumental in the evolution of Ruba’s character and arguably even her liberation, however, the movie does not do these relationships complete justice and dedicates very little time to other women or marginalized characters in the movie.

5. Does it challenge any flawed notions upheld by capitalism, patriarchy, and the caste system?
The movie successfully subverts stereotypical representations of women and even defies traditional ideas of marriage and power dynamics between men and women and for that, it gets a full point!

Do the writers of theCW's Kung Fu watch their show?

I don't really have the energy to write everything that isn't working on this show... But just in case this post reaches eyes that are connected to the show, here's a list of things that the writers might want to keep in mind while breaking and writing the second season.
1. Watch your show.
I am begging you, writers of Kung Fu: watch your show. Take down notes on what you've written and what you've established. Take note of character chemistry, of the strengths and weaknesses of your actors, directors, fight choreographers, set designers, etc.
Let's not have a dead character sometimes appear as a wise mystical ghost in one episode, and then a personification of Nicky's subconscious in another. Let's not have a character say "I want what [our parents] have" in reference to his failed romance just mere episodes after the parents almost split up because of a kept secret. That they didn't even really resolve. And let's not have character arcs appear and disappear willy-nilly, like Althea's sexual harassment storyline that only crops up when it's convenient.
Sure, it's great to have themes in episodes--but just because a storyline doesn't fit the theme doesn't mean it should stop moving.
2. Don't fall in love with your characters and actors.
I don't mean romantically. But that too, I guess?
Here's the thing. Zhilan is a cool character, I get it. But we didn't really need to see her in every episode. Her actions can happen off-screen and it wouldn't really affect the show. Because while her endgame does connect to Nicky, everything she does leading up to it does not.
Eleven episodes in, the only thing we really needed from Zhilan was her first encounter with Nicky in the pilot--where she becomes the yardstick to which we measure Nicky up to; her face-to-face with Nicky at the museum--where we see that while Nicky has grown, she still has much to learn before she can defeat Zhilan; and then the fight alongside Simon Lau, where Nicky sees that she can now hold her own against Zhilan--but she still has weaknesses that Zhilan can use against her.
Outside of those encounters, we don't really need Zhilan. We didn't need her to team up with Kerwin and have all those scenes with him. Kerwin could've been introduced via Nicky and Henry's research only for him to side with Zhilan, sure. But having Zhilan approach him in one episode, and then sprinkling them around so many episodes just talking, making out, killing, stealing, etc? Those scenes only took time away from developing Nicky as a character.
3. Develop your main character. Please.
Nicky is very unlikable. So is Henry, by the way. They're charming, but that's thanks to the actors. The characters themselves are selfish and thoughtless. They act without fear of consequences, and why would they be afraid? The show never deals with the fallout of their wrong decisions. Because of that, the characters don't grow.
How can people aspire to be Nicky? How can people root for her to win beyond not wanting the bad guys to become more powerful? We can't. Because Nicky is not worthy of our respect or affection. She is impatient, impertinent, and immature. Flawed characters are one thing, but Nicky is a hero with all the virtues of a one-dimensional villain.
4. Ask your script supervisor if they're okay.
Kung Fu airs so many scenes that could be fixed by someone on set going, "umm--is there a better way to film that?" Like Zhilan showing Simon her pendant to tell him she's a guardian too. The pendant was nesting on her bare skin for all to see. We could argue that Simon was reeling from the death of his bodyguards--but the conversation between him and Zhilan started prior to the deaths. And it was preceded by him getting warned by Nicky that a woman was coming to steal his weapon and kill him.
And then there's the Zhilan-Kerwin love-making and off-screen Myanmar adventure that was interspersed throughout an episode of Nicky searching Canada for her long-lost aunt. Nicky went on a road trip, had a scavenger hunt, had a lengthy conversation with a plot device, got lost in the woods, had an interlude with a wolf, spent the night in the woods, traversed more of the mountain to find her aunt's cabin which she then thoroughly explored. Meanwhile, over at the Zhilan-Kerwin show, the set, costume, AND lighting implied that all their scenes transpired in the span of hours.
5. Figure out a better way to have fight scenes.
The pilot's fight scene at the monastery, and then with goons when Nicky was back in "San Francisco", was organic. Nicky's fight at the secret poker club during the second episode was a little eye-roll-inducing, but it still had a purpose. But some of Nicky's fights since then just felt forced. Like the fight with the pool players during her Canadian road trip, and the frat fight with the kids who wanted to scapegoat a Chinese kid into paying for their crime.
But honestly? I wouldn't mind the per-episode fight scene requirement if the fight scenes were actually any good. But they're not really fun to watch. They're dizzying most of the time, and they're edited so clunkily. Kung Fu peeps? Watch Disney's Mulan live-action film from 2020. Let that be a guide of what not to do.
And finally--
Just...talk to each other. Sketch out the entire season, and don't just make stuff up on the fly. Create a character bible of who the characters are--their history, their traumas, their favorite shit. And use the bible to make sure your characters don't suddenly become someone else for plot's sake.
Fix your show, Kung Fu writers. Make it a show that Asians can be proud of. Please.

7 Deadly Sins is a Bad Show (and probably a bad manga)
Okay, so I got on a soapbox about this on Twitter, but I want to bring it here.
Seven Deadly Sins is demonstrably a bad show that normalizes pedophilia, grooming, and sexual harassment.
Yeah, there's shades of these issues in other anime and if it was just a one-off thing or a stupid running gag, I might ignore it.
HOWEVER
This is consistent, all the male protagonists are essentially pedos, and there's other story elements that make me seriously sus the creator.
Exhibit A: Meliodas is the worst v.1
Our first introduction to Meliodas is him literally groping 16-year-old Elizabeth. And this never lets up. It's literally constant.
We find out later he's, like, 3000s and a demon.
He's literally gross.
This is before we find out Elizabeth is a reincarnation of a woman or goddess that Meliodas loves, but - even when we find that out - it doesn't make his sexual harassment better.
In fact, it gets worse, but we'll get to that later.
Exhibit B: Ban and Elaine
Now the apologists out there will try to excuse these with the fact Elaine is a fairy and she's thousands of years old, yadda yadda. (Which that trope is a problem, too.)
But visually, if you knew nothing of the story, this pairing looks really pedophilic.
Even after she gets wings (which apparently "ages her up") she still looks ridiculously young compared to Ban.
This was introduced kind of early on in the show, from what I remember, and I kept watching thinking this was the worst it was going to be. (Plus, at that time Elaine was dead, but that sadly didn't.)

Exhibit C: King and Diane
A fairy and a giant. Cool.
Except he literally "fell in love" with Diane when she was a young child and he was demonstrably not.

Exhibit D: Meliodas is LITERALLY the worst v.2
Not only did Meliodas grope 16-year-old Elizabeth upon first meeting - and then never stop - BUT we find out he literally groomed her.
I am not joking.
Due to reincarnation bullshit, baby!Elizabeth showed up on the battlefield and Meliodas took her to the king. Meliodas basically strong-armed the king to take Elizabeth as his own child AND Meliodas insisted on being the baby's personal guard. (Oh, and somewhere during the "saving the baby from the rubble" scene, he calls this literal baby "my woman.")
This means that not only did Meliodas knew who Elizabeth was from the start, because she's a princess, but he personally had a hand in raising her.
And she didn't remember him until later on in the story.
AND HE WAS STILL GROPING HER CONSTANTLY. Omg. just. aoifheoiahv.

Exhibit E: Merlin's True Form
Alright, this is just something I learned recently and didn't see this in the show, but...
Merlin was this highly sexualized magic user that was, also, like 3000+ years old. Look at this outfit.

Now this doesn't reflect badly on Merlin, but I'm adding it, because it raises HIGH SUS on the creator.
IN THE END:
If one or two of these things happened in the story, I wouldn't be super concerned.
But they all happened and I have to ask what is the creator thinking. In my opinion, it doesn't seem like anything good and they should probably have their computer searched heavily.
At the very least, this show has monumentally normalized pedophilic and grooming relationships with excuses like "they were meant for each other" or "they're fairies/giants/reincarnations so they mature differently" or whatever other pedo apologist bs. (And they've just added fuel to the fire of "groping is fine if the underage victim is OK with it.")
Also, the amount of people who will die on the Meliodas hill is honestly concerning. He is literally one worst protagonists I've had the displeasure to watch in an anime.
Yes, there are plenty of shows - especially anime - with problematic elements. For the most part, as long as we talk about why certain elements are problematic, I don't think those shows are super bad.
Seven Deadly Sins, however, is bad. It romanticizes and normalizes pedophilia and even grooming.
Literally, 3 of 4 of main male protagonists end up with characters that look extremely underage, were underage when they met, or they literally helped to raise.
(The 4th one that wasn't like that, as far as I know, died...)

When her honey-brown eyes fluttered awake, it was still dark. 5:30 am. She rose out of bed, rubbing her eyes, like a child waking up on a Sunday morning. Slipping on her ruby slippers, she staggered to the kitchen, remnants of last night’s class schedule and history projects strewn across her beige countertop, to make a cup of tea. It was strange, here in Ozona, to drink iced coffee, never mind tea. She set the kettle, pulled her long cardigan to cover her chest and regarded the manor in the woods. The whistle shattered her gaze at the dilapidated house.
In Virginia, 6 agents discussed the death of two children in the middle of Texas. "Nicholas Faye of Ozona, Texas, was beaten to death roughly 13 hours ago. Blunt force trauma to the head," JJ sighed. There was never a good day nor time to deliberate on innocent and defenceless children. But she’d worked this job too long to slip into that pattern of doom and gloom. "He’s the second young boy to die the same way in the last 2 months. A local hunter found his body in the woods. First victim’s name, Robbie Davis."
"Are these boys connected somehow?" asked Morgan.
"Ozona’s population is roughly 2 500. Everyone has some kind of connection."
"Well, if they weren’t linked before they certainly are now." Morgan wore the same grim expression of exasperation as JJ. The agents agreed that they were both murdered by the same offender who was hunting children. The repulsiveness wasn’t lost on any of them.

Piper Bishop was a history teacher. She asked herself why every day. Every day she’d sit on her front porch, sipping on tea, asking why. Her entire life, she’d wanted to help people, and her entire life, she questioned if it was enough. She wasn’t smart enough to go to medical school, her father had made sure she understood that at most. Her clear preference for the humanities was seen as repulsive, condemned for "supporting these damn bleeding-heart liberals". Neither were Daniel’s remarks lost on her either. She remembered her last reunion with her siblings. "You have 4 Ph.Ds Pipes," he’d said, blues gazing at browns. "Why are you teaching school kids?" She’d find the answer every time a young girl whispered about a bully in her ear, every time a young boy bared his scars to her. She’d tried doing the psychiatry gig, but the stigma behind her patients meant she had none. Her father’s words still stuck to her. Though she’d shaken him off, his voice became her own. What if he is right though? What if you really won’t amount to anything? Piper laughed at her own absurdity. She’d almost missed the sunrise. The warm sun peeking out at her behind the trees melted away all her doubts. "Time for school Dr. Bishop."

"You guys hear Elle was cleared?" Spencer sat down with his cup of hot coffee next to Derek. Well, more sugar than coffee anyway.
"Self-defence," Derek stated, flipping through the files, with an air of disbelief.
"So it was a good shoot." Derek turned towards the young agent.
"She hit what she was aiming for." JJ commented without a glance at the two men in front of her, eyes focused on the case at hand.
"That’s not what I meant."
"I know." The blonde agent said.
"If they cleared her," Morgan asked, "then how come she’s not here with us? Or Hotch?"
"Focus on the case," Gideon reprimanded, seated away from them. Taking it as a sign to change the conversation, JJ handed out the autopsy reports. Morgan then suggested the bludgeoning was a form of frustration or rage.
"With no apparent sexual motivation," Reid added, "that’s rare when the victims are this young."
"The unsure is taking pleasure from the kill itself." Gideon contributed.
"If it’s not sexual, what’s the significance in killing young males?"
"Most serial killers prey upon specific types to carry out fantasies of revenge.” Spencer answered, drawing on his memory. “Bundy killed women that looked like an ex-girlfriend who jilted him, Dahmer claimed that schoolyard harassment federal into his fury."
"Okay, so maybe these kids represent someone who victimised the offender?"
"Unlikely," JJ replied, "they just found another body. 11 year old girl."

Piper glanced over her desk quickly once more. Her worksheets were ready, her timeline of Alexander the Great was drawn up and her map of Alexander’s territory was pinned, dotted with little flags and sketched out. She was determined to make this module the best one yet to make up for the tension in the classroom. She’d already lost 2 kids to that coward in the woods, she wasn’t about to lose a third. The Persian horde had arrived and the young doctor opened the gates to receive the 45 little kids raging to their beloved history teacher. No, 43 now, she chided herself. Closing the door, she mentally reminded her to control her emotions. She turned to face her little devils, "Who’s ready to fight the Macedons?"
Her warm eyes flitted across the desks. That was weird. Three desks were empty this time. "Has anyone seen Sarah?" She entertained her class for a while and told them to take a worksheet each while she made a call. Piper popped her head into Mr Davison’s class and asked him to keep an eye on her class. She tapped her fingers erratically while the administration office checked up on Mrs Peterson. "Well,?"
"Dr. Bishop, Sarah’s not at home either."
Piper took a shaky breath before entering her classroom. She’ll be fine. She probably got lost on her way to school. The police will do their job. Relax.
"Okay, who can tell me who Alexander is?"
Hailey jumped up and recited, "Alexander III of Macedon, commonly known as Alexander the Great, was a king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon and a member of the…" The young brunette stumbled. Piper could see the happiness leech from the young girl’s face.
"Argead dynasty, idiot." Jeffrey yelled, sticking his tongue out. "She can’t even speak. Are you dumb, Hailey?"
"Enough, Jeffrey, don’t you ever put someone else down for trying. If you keep your head down and keep studying, maybe you can be a teacher too, but trying and failing is better than doing nothing at all." Piper turned her attention to the tears rapidly forming in the child’s blinking eyes. Piper handed her a tissue from her desk and kneeled down next to her. "It’s okay kiddo. We make mistakes sometimes. That doesn’t mean we stop trying. What do you think that word says?" After a couple of tries, Hailey got the hang of it, and Piper could move on.
"Alex spent most of his years on a military campaign through western Asia and northeast Africa," Piper said, drawing their attention to what she’d say was an impressive map. "And by the age of thirty, he had created one of the largest empires of the ancient world, stretching from Greece to northwestern India."

Gideon and the local sheriff trudged through fallen leaves to the site of where the battered boy was. "This isn’t a dump site," Gideon noted, "the murder happened right here." Kneeling down, he said, more to his own benefit than the sheriff, "Autopsy report claims no sign of a struggle."
"Poor little guy never had a chance."
Gideon envisioned the incident. The 8 year old boy walking past, turning back to see his abuser.
"The victims knew their killer." He muttered to himself. "Followed them to this spot."
"What makes you think that?"
"Well, the kids went this deep into the woods because they trusted them. Probably stashed his weapon here beforehand. We’re looking for someone intelligent, methodical, but the method of killing doesn’t fit. It’s confusing. Doesn’t make sense." Gideon’s words were as fragmented as his thoughts, desperately trying to pull the pieces together.
Less than a quarter mile away from the other dumpsites, the gangly doctor stood next to the bagged and battered kid. "Violence was post-mortem," revealed the medical examiner on the case, equally horrified at the scenes unfolding over the past few weeks.
"So, the killer’s becoming more brazen."
"But now he’s spending more time with the victims even after death." Morgan glanced at the yellow 'Hunting Area' sign nailed to a tree. "If he’s a hunter," Derek turned to Spencer, "he’d know every inch of these woods."

The PA squealed out just as Piper was getting to the Persian conquest. "All students, please head to the assembly hall immediately, all teachers to the teacher’s lounge." The young woman herded the daydreamers out, grabbed her Doctor Who mug and rushed to the lounge. Whilst pouring herself a cup of coffee, James told her about the parents and the BAU members coming to discuss the murders. Steeling herself for a gruesome speech, Piper headed over to the hall to introduce the kids to FBI agents while James stayed behind to console parents. While the soles of her sneakers rushed, her head wandered. Who were these agents? Were these kids gonna be okay? At the entrance to the hall, her forehead wrinkled and her body collided with a lanky agent and her warm coffee stained the whole of both their cardigans, her brain juice spilling all over the floor.
"Sorry," they both exclaimed. Gideon and JJ walked by, snickering as she entered the hall, but Gideon barely spared them a glance.
"Seriously, I am so sorry." Piper gushed. "I have some tissues, and there’s a bathroom right there."
The agent just laughed and took the cardigan off. "Don’t worry about it, it’s brown anyway." He stared at your TARDIS mug. "Is that…" Piper blanched. Did she now also have to explain Doctor Who to him?
"I know it looks like a phone booth but it’s actually a…" She stumbled. "I have no idea how to explain this without sounding like I’m a complete lunatic."
"No, I know what Doctor Who is." He chuckled softly.
Piper sighed in relief. "Finally, you have no idea the glances I get for this thing."
"Reid!" Gideon yelled from the hallway.
"That’s me. Bye." Spencer waved awkwardly at the young woman in front of him, before sidestepping her quickly to get to his mentor.

"It could be someone you know or it could be a stranger you pass at the grocery store. But it’s vital that we keep our eyes open and our children close. Now as Ozona’s guidance counsellor, I can only help your children with the aftermath but our police department is working with the FBI, gathering information on the case. To elaborate on that, Agent Jason Gideon." James introduced the middle-aged agent to the anxious parents sitting in the lounge. Reid stood behind his mentor.
"We want you to know we’re doing everything we can to find the person responsible. Until we do there are a number of precautions you need to take. Let me go over some of them with you."

Piper watched the kids attentively, just barely paying Agent Jareau and Agent Morgan attention.
"It’s a buddy system," JJ started. "That means you always go everywhere with a friend."
"That’s because bad men and women only talk to us when we’re alone."
"We don’t know what these guys look like yet. It might be someone you know."
Hailey raised her hand.
"Yeah, sweetheart, you got a question?" Piper was touched by the kindness in Agent Morgan’s voice. You couldn’t fake that tenderness.
Hailey took a deep breath, "There was this little girl once on the news who just got grabbed right in front of our house. Could that happen to us?"
The tall agent looked back at Agent Jareau. Piper understood the hesitation.
"Hailey, sweetheart, nothing will happen to you, you have my word." She walked over to the young girl and gently rubbed her shoulder. "So long as you listen to the FBI, honey." She nodded to the agents and stepped back.

"Any more questions?" Gideon asked.
"Did you ever find his hat?" Mrs Faye asked in a trembling voice, fighting the urge to cry.
"'Scuse me?" Jason was confused.
"The red one I put on him. He was wearing it when he left."
"I’m sorry, Mrs Faye," Jason rubbed his hand.
"Mandatory curfew at 5pm." James interjected and dismissed the parents. "Just make sure you know where your children are."

Piper grabbed her bag after the last bell had gone. The ghosts of Robbie, Nicholas and Sarah hadn’t left your head. She wished she could kiss the fear away from those kids. Piper jumped at the rap on the door.
"Agent Morgan. What can I do you for?"
"Just a few routine questions." Piper gestured to the seat next to her desk.
"How can I help you?"
"How long have you worked here?"
"Must be about a year now."
"As a history teacher?" Piper smiled.
"Did you guess from the armour and the coffin?" The tall doctor swung his head to take a look at the almost replica of armour.
"Have you noticed anyone looking at the children in a strange way?" Morgan continued.
“Is this an original?” 
“Gods, no. Everyone knows a teacher doesn’t make enough to own original Macedonian armour. Also Greece refuses to sell any artefact to American citizens considering their scuffle with the British Museum.” Her eyebrows furrowed as she considered Morgan’s question. "I don’t think so. The chances of a child predator in a small town are ridiculously low since state law requires registered sex offenders live 2,000 feet from schools and Texas’s registry is public. I suppose the problem would then be unregistered ones, in which case, kids are always under supervision. Most likely, only someone the kids trust would be the coward doing this. In that scenario, the only adults with that kind of trust would be family friends, family, the teachers and the bus driver. I’ve met all the parents and none of them fit the psychological requirements of a sexual predator and honestly, neither do the teachers."
Morgan smiled at your thought process. "Huh, you’d make quite the profiler, but we don’t think it’s a sexual act since the bodies don’t show any sign of a sexual assault."
Piper mulled over the new information. "I know those kids. They’re good kids and even if it just boils down to a case of rage, no adult within their inner circles would be capable of such a thing. It’s not that it’s impossible, but it is highly unlikely. A lot of these people have kids of their own." She saw the disbelief on their faces so she switched tacks. "What’s your profile of the killer?"
"We can’t disclose that to the public yet."
"Then think of it as a consultation." Piper said, pulling out her resume from an inner drawer.
Morgan whistled and Reid glanced at the sheet over his shoulder. "4 PhDs in clinical, child, abnormal and counselling psychology. Why are you a history teacher?"
Piper glanced at the door. "Everyone told me to start my own practice, and I did." She pointed at the glowing resume in Derek’s hands. "When people heard about this, they came too. But slowly they stopped. At first I thought it was a good sign. But I’d call them in a month, and they’d tell me they’d slipped back into their addictions, or their depressive episodes." She combed her hand through her hair.
"So I quit, packed my bags, moved to Ozona and asked for a teaching position." She let out a shaky breath. "I am more than qualified to help you out, Agent Morgan, so please let me." Morgan looked back at Reid who shrugged.

"Can I have your attention please?" The local department turned to focus on Agent Gideon. "We’d like to make something clear." He cleared his throat. "Due to the velocity of change, we predict this offender could try to strike again at any time. His confidence builds with every attack."
"Look for someone physically fit, shy, kind disposition. Someone you may trust with your own child. Because the killer targets kids, he may be small himself," Morgan took over, "and though we keep referring to this unsub as he, do not rule out a woman."
A mother and her young son rushed over to the small congregation. Piper recognised her. "Excuse me. My son Matthew never came home today."
Gideon stepped forward, asking where he was last seen. "His teachers saw him in the parking lot after school." At that moment, all officers and agents moved to start looking for the boy. Reid and Morgan turned to the map, trying to figure out how and where he may be taken. Noticing the woman in distress and panic, JJ asked the woman to take a seat. Piper watched the scene from a corner and focused on the little boy with her.
"What are you thinking about over here?" She knelt down in front of him.
"Nothing," said the child softly.
"You look awfully upset to be thinking about nothing. Wanna tell me what’s wrong?"
"Matty said he was just gonna ring the doorbell. At the haunted house. On the hill."
"Finnegan’s place," interrupted James.
"Forever kind of a local legend," the sheriff informed the agents. "Folks say he watches kids from the window. Hunts 'em. Skins 'em. Eats 'em."
"Why weren’t we told about this?" Morgan faced the sheriff. "Fables often come from an ounce of truth. We should exhaust every possibility."

As day turned to night and the FBI agents raided Finnegan’s manor, Piper sat on her porch, mulling the profile over and over. She knew the people in town. She’d have known if there was a killer in their midst. Do you, though? You think you know better that professional profilers? What, because you wrote a few research papers in 4 years. Get a grip. She glanced at Old Man Finnegan’s place. He’d stopped coming into the town after his wife died, she knew that much. No, it couldn’t be him. Why would the kids trust a man they fear? So, who? Shaking her head, the young woman walked into the house. She grabbed a mandarin from her little fruit bowl and busied herself making a cup of tea. I have to be making an assumption. C’mon Pipes! Her mind flashed back to class. The little boy in her 7th grade class yelling at little Hailey then the incident in April in the parking lot. Ignoring the yell of her kettle, Piper left her orange on the counter and rushed to her dining table to her binders. She scrambled to her 7th grade class binder. Jeffrey Charles and on top, her cursive handwriting that her mom was so damn proud of. Father, James Charles, guidance counsellor. Mother, unknown, left in Apr. 2006. She flicked to her notes. 
Disruptive. Borderline bully. Possesses strained empathy for others. Loner. Apathetic towards school. Can be attributed to broken family.
She glanced at the time. 1:30 am. Shit. Should I call Morgan anyway? Piper pulled out her phone and the card Derek had given her. Not giving her brain the chance to overthink, Piper dialled the number. After 7 rings, she hangs up. Of course he didn’t pick up your call. Did you really think what you have to say matters? She brushed the nasty voice of her dad off, but left the phone on the table. She took the kettle off, turned the lights off, locked the door, and went to bed.

The boys separated in the night, torches and guns at the ready. Gideon and Reid took the back while Morgan and the sheriff took the front of the house. Morgan flicked the lights on and off, but nothing happened. "Definitely haunted."
Gideon and Reid edged towards the garage. "FBI," Gideon yelled, only to hear the soft mumbles of a child.
"I didn’t want the old man to find me."
"All right," Gideon said, rather gruffer than he intended, "No one’s gonna harm you."

Spencer settled down in the darkness. "Hey Garcia, did you get anything?" he greeted their tech analyst softly.
"Well, only that Finnegan’s house in the hill is like the Bates hotel of Ozona, Texas." She grinned and continued her knitting.
"Yeah, we heard the legends."
"Spencer, seriously, people that go into that house supposedly never come out. SpoOky!" Penelope sang.
"Garcia, could you at least pretend not to enjoy that rumour so much considering I’ve actually entered the house?"
"Sensitive," she mocked the young doctor. "Sorry,"
"Besides, local police say there are no reports of that happening."
"Yeah, this is true. All complaints filed were false alarms. But then there is that matter of his missing wife," the blonde taunted.
"Wife? What wife? When did she go missing?"
"Almost 50 years ago," she said sinisterly.
"Is there no record of her ever being found?"
"I got 2 words for you my friend, rear window." Reid abandoned his files to pay attention to his dear, quirky and unrelentingly mischievous friend. "That guy probably chopped that lady up into delicious, bite-sized little pieces."
Something creaked outside Reid’s window.
"Think about it, Spencer," she continued, "she may have never left the premises." Garcia could barely contain her giggles. "She may still be in the house," she whispered into her mic.
That creaking something creaked again.
"Garcia, I’m sitting here in the dark, alone. Thanks."
"While you’re waiting for a potential murderer to come home, that’s kinda dangerous." Garcia smiled into her mic, twisting her pen in her hand and picturing the deliciously scared features on Spencer’s face. "Kinda sexy," she added.
"I gotta go," Reid said, looking out into the darkness on the other side of the window.
"You’re having creepy fun, I wish I was there."
As Reid turned off his cell, he glanced back towards the noises on the stairs. Slowly standing up, he felt something. An entity. A presence. An existence. Spencer turned his head around, only to bump into a tall, dark stranger and he jumped, terrified. "You really are afraid of the dark," Derek said, smiling.
"I’m working on it," Spencer shot back quickly and walked away.
"You should work a little harder."
The sheriff came back to the group, reporting that his deputy would get the boy back safe. Morgan shook his head. The whole town was on edge. Perhaps that’s why Finnegan was in the wind. The agent flicked his torch to the wall, only to see a rack of rifles.
"The unsub didn’t use a gun," Gideon pointed out. He kept walking, piecing together his thoughts aloud. "Finnegan’s an avid hunter, why didn’t he use it?" He reached under the table to pull out Robbie’s lunchbox and Sarah’s backpack.
"I guess Finnegan brought the kids back here before finishing them off. But why wouldn’t he get rid of the evidence?"
"He considers them trophies,"Spencer said softly.
Morgan huffed. "When this is all said and done, I’d like to hang his head on a wall."

Morgan, Reid and Gideon paced the next crime scene, only this time it wasn’t a child. It was Finnegan. The medical examiner explained that he died of natural causes.
"His heart probably gave out while setting this trap," Reid suggested.
"Yeah, well, karma’s a bitch," the M.E. commented, "those coyotes were gnawing on him for a week."
"Before the second or third murders even happened," Morgan pointed out.
"This area’s off the travelled path, it’s a wonder anyone even discovered him at all."
"If you ask me," the medical examiner suggested, "those leaves didn’t cover him by themselves."
"If Finnegan’s been dead all this time, who’s living in his house?"

Piper Bishop rose later than usual. 7 am. She’d missed the sunrise. Shit. Pulling on her slippers, she went through the rounds; a cup of tea, pancakes, review of the class schedule and that’s when she remembered. She meant to call Morgan in the morning. She dialled his cell again. Nothing. Sighing, she told herself she’d drop by later today. She changed into her favourite outfit, white satin button-up, dark blue pants, grey blazer, drop necklace.

"Here’s a question," Reid asked, crossing his legs on the couch, "if a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound in nobody hears it?"
Morgan stared at him. "What the hell are you reading over there?"
"I was just thinking," Reid gazed back at the journals on his lap.
"Found something," Gideon announced. The boys followed him into the kitchen.
"Provisions," he said, staring at the near-dozen near-empty dishes, "delivered by the church to every elderly’s doorstep." He waved his hand to all of them, saying, "Each one dated after Finnegan died."
"So the unsub ate everything?" Morgan asked.
"Almost everything," Gideon answered, "unopened bowls of creamed spinach thrown in the trash, each one wrapped with duct tape."
"One with each tray," Spencer noted, handling the casings carefully.
"So we’re looking for a guy who really, really hates spinach?" Morgan was exasperated.
"Who doesn’t?" Spencer retorted.
"Ritualised, meticulous, organised."
"He would eat the same particulars." Reid was confused.
"Full prints," Gideon ordered. At that, Gideon’s cell rang and seeing the name, walked out.
"It’s about Elle, isn’t it?" Spencer said, walking closer to Derek, arms crossed. "I talked to her in Ohio."
"Reid, we all talked to her."
"No, no, I talked to her before. I went to her room one night and…she was drinking."
"She almost died. I’d be drinking too."

To say Piper was frustrated would not even begin to cover her chagrin at being unable to talk to Morgan. He wasn’t answering his cell and she couldn’t find a sub this last minute. Her students felt the tension and none wanted to see her explode. They kept quiet, answering their comprehension questions of Alexander the Great’s Persian conquests. As soon as the bell rang, she started, rushing students out the door and grabbing her bag. She dialled the sheriff’s number and asked to meet his as soon as possible.
"Just hear me out, Sheriff," she pleaded.
"You really expect me to believe that a child could do something as heinous as this."
"Jeffrey isn’t an ordinary child. His mother left him in April, you know that. Children grow resentful of other children anyway."
"That’s ridiculous. So he’s a little jealous." He got up and started pacing.
"Except he’s not just resentful about mothers, it’s about James too. You and I both know how much he cares about those kids. Some days he calls me at 3 in the morning to talk about how stressed he is. Not 'cause of his workload, but 'cause he’s worried he’s not doing enough. Sheriff, I’m begging you to see reason."
"No, you’re delusional."
"I don’t think you know what that word means and you definitely aren’t qualified to use it.”
"A child would never do this."
"That’s exactly why you’ll never find your killer."
"Are you doubting me, Ms Bishop?"
"No," she said forcefully, "Quite frankly, Sheriff, you don’t know the first thing about kids. I’ve seen how worried Langdon gets sometimes because he’s scared that his Daddy isn’t going to come home one day. I’m not doubting your ability, Sheriff, I’m doubting whether you’ll find the unsub before another child has to die. 3 children are dead, I’m trying to help and for the record, it’s Doctor." For once, she felt calmer and having said her piece, she walked out the sheriff’s office, greeting Agent Gideon politely before she walked away from the both of them.

"Why the woods, JJ?" Morgan asked, sipping his terrible coffee in station’s waiting room.
"Hmm?"
"Your fear, you said it was of the woods. Why?"
"Oh, I was a camp counsellor when I was a teenager. In the woods up in Vermont, I had the night shift. Tucked the girls in, turned off the lights, you know the typical stuff. Everything seemed fine, all the kids were asleep, you know. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Until, I noticed there was some blood on the hallway floor. So I followed the blood trail out to the camp director’s cabin, walked up to his bed and he was just lying underneath his covers, dead. Someone stabbed him. I ran out of there so fast, out the door, down the hall, I just remember it being really dark and once I got to the door, there was another counsellor. I guess she must have heard me scream. Anyway, they caught the cleaner on his way to town. He must have had the knife on him. So, that’s when I decided didn’t like the woods." JJ fought to suppress her giggles at Derek’s expression.
"You’re serious?"
"No," She laughed. "No, I don’t know why I’m afraid of the woods. Why is he still afraid of the dark?"
"Yeah, Reid?"
"Because of the inherent absence of light," he replied.
"That was good JJ," Morgan’s phone started ringing, "Just know that paybacks are a bitch."
"Hey girl," he called to his favourite tech analyst.
"I love our relationship. We barely need words."
"Talk to me baby."
"So I pulled two sets of prints of those trays," she said.
"Two?"
"Yeah, one of them belonging to a child?"
"Okay, which one of the victims? Why don’t you work with the Ozona Coroner’s Office?"
"Oh baby, that’s so yesterday. I’ve already got those minions working on it. The other set, however, is on the database. Name is James Charles, he’s the-"
"He’s the local guidance counsellor helping with the investigation."
"You’re kidding. Sending address now." Morgan looked at the two agents who had just abandoned their cups.
"Call Gideon. We know who the unsub is."

Piper was supervising the history projects. She’d managed to pull off having a history fair with a Renaissance theme to cheer the kids up. Each kid had to make a diorama and the history department would judge based on creativity, historical merit and above all enthusiasm, a word she was not feeling. A month ago, she would’ve been over the moon, but now, all she was thinking about was when the next body would show up. She’d yelled at the sheriff and Agent Gideon had seen it. It was unprofessional and now they’d never listen to her. So you finally agree then? It was a stupid and unnecessary thing to say. Clearly you aren’t as praiseworthy as teachers say. "Ugh," Piper swept her short wavy hair into a tight ponytail. Kneeling next to Langdon, she asked him where Jeffrey was. His shrug was worrying. Piper pulled out her cell and called the administration office. "Hi ladies, is Jeffrey at school today? He’s not in my class."
"His dad called him in sick."
"Thanks, girls." Piper tried to push it out of her mind. Maybe she was wrong.
After school was out, Piper grabbed her things and left. That’s right baby girl. Just let the police do their job and just go home like the insignificant bitch you are. She grabbed her helmet and was about to drive home when she got a call from the ladies in Administration.
"It’s James. They’ve arrested them Piper. What do we do?"
"Hang tight Claudia, I’ll deal with it, okay."

"Here’s the deal," Morgan leaned over James in the interrogation room, "I could stand here and tell you what I think you were doing in Finnegan’s house for the last 2 weeks. Or, you could do us all a favour. Sign a confession, maybe get a little something taken off your time. What’d you say?"
"I never stepped inside Finnegan’s house." James stared right back into Morgan’s eyes.
"What the hell do you think you’re doing?" Piper slammed the door behind her. The agents turned from staring at the small television screen. "Seriously, you think Jamie would do something like this?"
"Piper," The sheriff started.
"No, you don’t get that privilege anymore. It’s Doctor or nothing because clearly you don’t value my experience, Sheriff. I’m sorry to interrupt what clearly isn’t a waste of your time, Agents, but James couldn’t have done any of this."
"Then why won’t he talk to us? He had the baseball cap at his house, his prints are all over the food trays. I don’t see another explanation."
"His prints were on the food trays because he volunteers at the church’s food drive and he’s not the one with the baseball cap, it’s his son. That’s why he called him in sick yesterday, it’s why he’s hiding the truth from you all. James doesn’t have the time nor the motive. If his wife left him, why would he attack kids? More importantly when? When he isn’t at school, he has a session with a kid. If not there, helping with your investigation or handing out food for retired folks. The man has no opportunity and no motive. If anything, he’d be killing women resembling his wife, but instead he’s devoting every possible minute of his life to this community. As for why I think it’s Jeffrey, if you’d listened to me, Sheriff, the kid lost his mom in April. If you don’t know, if a kid loses a parent when they’re in their formative years as a result of abandonment rather than death, they grow increasing resentful of kids who do have their parents. Except for Jeffrey, it’s like he lost both. When his mother left, James devoted his life to the community and as a natural consequence, Jeffrey lost his father too. Whether you believe me or not is up to you, but 3 kids are dead and Jeffrey is missing." They were all standing up, ignoring the interrogation and gawking at Piper. Reid couldn’t stop staring at her and her ears began to redden significantly. Gideon broke the silence.
"Stay. Observe. You know him better than we do. Watch his behaviour and tell me if you don’t think he’s guilty."
Piper was slightly relieved that Gideon took her seriously enough to let her stay.
"How these last 6 months been for you James? Not too good huh? I don't know, your whole life is falling apart isn't it? Oh yeah you got to be feeling a loss of control, sense of abandonment. And I would guess, a little impotent maybe?" Morgan chuckled. "Come on man, give me something! Why did your wife leave you? What happened James, she get bored? I mean you don't seem all that exciting to me. She started feeling a little uninspired? You're not a minute man, aren't you? Uh, that's what it is!"
"You don’t think that’s a little uncalled for?" Piper exclaimed.
"We need him to talk. If he gets angry, he may slip up." Piper settled down.

"You think Dr. Bishop’s right?" Reid asked, playing with the handcuffs in his palm.
"I don’t know. I can’t believe a kid could be capable of something like this. She seems close to James too. Could be covering for him."
"I guess so."
"You know, it's bad enough his mother left and now his father's in custody. We’ve also got to take the poor kid into child services."
"It’s the law."
So is jaywalking. I don't have to like it. Good afternoon this is Agent Jareau, with the FBI, we're gonna be picking up Jeffrey Charles in about 20 minutes, if... Okay, I see. Thank you."
"What is it?"
"Dr Bishop may have been right."

"Jeffrey never was at school today. His father said he was sick." JJ informed them.
Piper’s instinct was to yell 'Aha!' but thankfully she went against it.
"Reid, go though his apartment." Gideon ordered.
"No, you don’t seriously still think this is his fault."
"I think he may have blamed his kid for his failed marriage."
"Then I can’t watch this interview. Let me help Dr Reid with the search." Everyone looked to Gideon.
"Okay, fine. Reid, keep an eye on her."

"Why are you so sure it isn’t him?" Reid asked her softly.
"Hmm?" Piper looked up from the abandoned dirty dishes.
"What you said back there, how are you so sure?"
"I’m not exactly the most experienced psychologist. I mean, I’ve studied it, wrote about it, talked in conferences about it, but I haven’t applied it, not the way he has. I guess, if he does turn out to be the killer," she huffed, "then he’s not the man I hoped he’d be." Reid stared at her.
Piper pulled the elastic from her hair and moved past Spencer to the bookshelf.
"It’s difficult. Being a single parent. Not that I would know. But I can understand." She pulled a book of the shelf. Kurt Vonnegut. "But James handled it as best he could. He put his personal trauma aside for the whole community. Only issue was," she turned to look back into Reid’s soft gaze, "his kid got the brunt of it. Most saints have something to hide, Spence. Gandhi accused his eldest son of 'alcohol and debauchery,' even sexual assault. And no-one believes me because no-one’s met the kid. He has serious rage issues, strained empathy for others and is apathetic to others."
"Huh. Look at this." Piper moved towards the doctor.
"It’s an EpiPen. So?"
"So, at Finnegan’s house, we found all the creamed spinach duck-taped and thrown out."
"Spence," Piper levelled her gaze, "Jeffrey has an allergy to dairy."

"Can I have a word with him?" Gideon asked. Morgan nodded and left the room. "It’s a rough day, huh? Coffee?"
"Yeah I wouldn't mind."
"Milk?"
"Please."
"So how long have you known that your son is a murderer?" Gideon abruptly asked without breaking eye contact.
"What are you talking about?"
"You might have been the one who brought the food trays to Finnegan's, but your son ate them, everything but the creamed spinach."
"You want me to confess? Is that what this game is? That's fine. You bring me another pen, I'll write out my confession."
"We found an EpiPen in your kitchen."
"So what that proves that my kid has an allergy."
"To milk."
Piper had had enough. "Let me in there, I’ll get him to talk. If Gideon threatens the freedom of his child, James won’t talk. He’ll talk to me."
"Not with Gideon in there." Morgan chided you.

Piper sat cross-legged on the chair, head resting on the back of her arms. Morgan was almost falling asleep. Reid was on his 8th cup of coffee. Piper’s ringtone woke Derek up and she couldn’t help laughing. "Big bad Derek Morgan’s afraid of a ringtone?" she laughed and raised the phone to her ear.
"Hi, Mrs Belle. How can I help you? Is Tracy okay?" Piper’s change of expression from glee to gloom wasn’t lost on anyone. "Okay, sit tight Mrs Belle, we’ll find her. Please relax." Piper hung up the phone and tied her short hair up again.
"Tracey Belle was just reported missing. Last seen getting off her school bus on Fuller Road."

What happened after was just a blur. Piper had managed to convince Gideon to let her come, citing her certification for hostage negotiation. They’d all strapped the Kevlar suits on and found a spare for her. Reid and JJ left in one car, Morgan and the sheriff in another and Piper was paired with Gideon.
"Why are you a history teacher?" Gideon asked.
"Hmm?"
"You’re 25, you have 4 Ph.Ds in Psychology, a Masters in History and Bachelors in Literature."
"Thought I wasn’t doing much good in a university classroom. Swapped it for an elementary school"
"I’m a profiler. Don’t lie to me."
"Yes, sir. They wouldn’t come because they didn’t want people to think they or their kids were crazy. So I stopped. I wrote books and papers. I taught at universities. But I kept getting this nagging thing in my head, that I should be doing more. So I packed and moved."
"Where’d you teach?"
"The main ones. Guest lectured at Brown for months at a time. Harvard was my alma mater so I was there for a semester. Columbia offered but I rejected them. They were kinda stung that I chose a high school over them." He chuckled at that. "None of you smile a lot."
"Hmm?"
"Especially you. Do the cases get that bad?"
"Yeah."
"So why do it?" The car stopped near the woods. They both got out of the vehicle and headed towards the others.
"Because it has to be done." He looked over at her and smiled.

Tracy was running. Her bag was gone. Jeffrey was going to hurt her. She knew she was at the playground, but after a few minutes, the woods had enveloped her. She prayed that her mom was looking, that someone was looking, but the only thing that filled the little girl’s little heart was the dread. Dread that in these big bad woods, she was all alone with a killer.
"Split up, she’s gotta be somewhere."
Bishop and Gideon ran through the woods looking for the small blonde.
"Tracy!"
Trees.
"Tracy!"
Trees everywhere.
"Tracy!"
They were looking for a red and a blond needle in a green and orange haystack.
"Tracey!" Jeffrey cried in a sing song voice. "Let's just go home. I was only playing! Why do you have to be such a baby? Tracey?"
Tracy’s feet hurt. She should have been home by now. She staggered towards the nearest tree and hid. He couldn’t find her here, would he? Her breaths were jagged and she was terrified.
Bishop heard screaming. "Tracy!" They ran towards the piercing scream. She saw the scene unfolding and determined to be anything but helpless, Piper ran in between Jeffrey and Tracy. "Stop!" Gideon ran to Jeffrey, locking him in one arm, throwing the bat away with the other. Piper pushed Tracy into JJ’s arms and breathed with relief.

In the aftermath of things, James was pacing, scared of what his kid had become, terrified of what would happen to him. Piper held her head in her hands, sitting on the parkside bench. Morgan gently pushed Jeffrey into the car. Reid sat next to her.
"You did good."
"Did I? I blamed a kid for a serial murder because he lost his mother. What does that make me?" Piper lifted her head to look at him.
"A profiler." Spencer rubbed her shoulder and walked away. Piper glanced at James, pacing.
"You think you could have prevented this?"
"Maybe if I’d been there for him…"
She put a hand on his shoulder. "James, you’d put the world’s problems on your own back if you could. You can still be there for him. What he did, it isn’t his fault and it isn’t yours." He looked at Piper, his gaze shattered, his soul broken.
"You really believe that?"
"I believe that care and love can make anything possible."

Piper packed her things slowly. She folded her maps, packed away the Macedon’s armour and the Egyptian coffin.
"So where to next?" Gideon leaned on her desk, arms crossed.
"Vacation to Italy, maybe Venice. Figuring things out." She shrugged.
"You did good today, but…you could be better."
"I’m sorry?"
"I want you on the team." Piper levelled her gaze to Gideon, standing straight.
"In what capacity?"
"Consultant, on a temporary basis. If you put in the hours and do the classes, maybe even an agent. You in?"
"This a one-time offer?"
"Yes."
"I’m in."

Destiel is bad for mlm. An essay with comebacks.
CLARIFICATIONS BEFORE I START: DESTIEL FANS DON'T INTERACT WITH THIS OF COURSE!!! Btw, I am mlm, I have a loving boyfriend who acts like Castiel while I act like Sam a lot... so yeah, I'm a Sastiel shipper so this post may come off as a little biased but I want to help other shippers who are against Destiel.  So if you're not a Sastiel shipper, still, don't leave- I'm not forcing you to ship it. That's wrong to force someone to ship. I'm also anti-Dean person.  In this post, there will be spoilers for Supernatural.
Ight let's put this show on the road... first off...
WHY DESTIEL IS BAD: -Yes, the ship is mlm and if canon, will be a mlm ship... but it’s bad rep. Why? Because if you want good representation, you gotta have a good relationship and not be queerbait for about 12 years. Dean literally beat Castiel up multiple times (even without the Mark of Cain). Let me ask you this fellas in a relationship... do you beat your partner? Bark commands at them 24/7? See them as a monster at times? I don’t think so.
-Stepping away from the ship itself, the fans are toxic and normally straight cis women who think they know what’s good for mlm or fetishizes mlm. (However, I’m not saying everyone who ships Destiel is straight and a cis woman) Also, the Destiel shippers will often times force others to ship that ship with them.
-What is mlm fetishization? People who solely love mlm ships- they barely have any wlw ships or straight ships. Just... mlm... or forces two males together, even if they are straight. They are or the equvialent of asking a gay male to be their 'gay friend'. That is very toxic. Destielhellers... get a new hobby, something healthier than reading/watching sexual assault, emotional abuse, and physical abuse.
COMEBACKS:
-When Castiel raised Dean from hell, he didn’t do it because “he loves Dean!” It was because Castiel is a soldier, a perfect soldier too, created by God to obey orders without question. When Castiel was first introduced to the show, he didn’t understand human emotions nor actually feel them so how could he quickly love Dean? Castiel also raised from Sam from hell.
-“#Theysilencedyou” on Instagram... the CW didn’t silence you, no one did. It was never canon in the first place. If Destiel was canon in the first place and Dean says “I love you too” OUT LOUD to Castiel, then killing Castiel off and NOT GIVING Dean a happy ending would be a “they silenced you” moment. But did that really happen? No. In the end, Castiel and Dean got a happy ending, just not together. And WOAH WOAH WOAH DON'T PULL CHARLIE INTO THIS. The show does a good job of giving her a lot of screentime about her sexuality and whatnot. She got a girlfriend multiple times. Her first death... she died in a Joan of Arc kind of way too which is awesome to me- but that's not the point with Charlie. She didn't come back in the finale because of covid and it's heavily hinted that everyone in the alternative universe place did go to heaven. I bet you anything she's in heaven right now.
-Castiel’s last words were the words he said in 15x18. He was dying. The empty was getting him. Those were his dying words, if he had said those while not dying, I would understand “they silenced you” there too. But Castiel didn’t say it while NOT dying, right? Also, there are different types of meanings behind "I love you" such as the friendship kind, which I say "I love you" to a lot of my friends, there's the family kind, and yes, there's the lover kind. Castiel most likely meant it in a family way since he said- same with Dean- that the Winchester brothers were like family to him.
-The CW writers aren’t homophobic. Here’s a list of the lgbtq+ characters from their other shows:
-Sara Lance (Arrow) -Alex Danvers (Supergirl) -Clarke Griffin (The 100) -Nyssa Raatko (Arrow) -David Singh (The Flash) -Anissa Pierce (Black Lightning) -Toni Topaz (Riverdale) -Teddy Montgomery (90210) AND MORE.
Granted, there aren't many gay men in that list. That's because they haven't found an actor who would feel comfortable playing a gay man... toxic masculinity happens guys... Reminds you of a certain character in Supernatural?
-“Kill Sam/Jared!” Sadly, I’ve seen that comment. Firstly, if you kill Jared... that’s literal murder and... dude that’s so extremist... you shouldn’t wish death upon anybody. Secondly, Sam is a main character in the show. He’s Dean’s brother. If Dean was left alone with Castiel, it still wouldn’t happen. Why? Because like we saw in the finale (15x20), Sam was mourning after Dean and it left him to FOREVER remember his brother. Dean would be the same if Sam were to die and go to heaven. Dean’s and Sam’s brotherly relationship is the glue that keeps it all together in the show. One brother is very rarely without the other in screentime.
-“Sam is Destiel’s number one cheerleader!” Okay, no, I get where they get it from... the episode, Fan Fiction (10x5). But Sam was messing with Dean because he knew how squirmy he’d get. Dean sees Castiel as a brother... and imagine being shipped with your friend that you see as family. Horrible, right? because it’s getting rid of the aspects of your relationship? Sam even shipped himself with Castiel in one of the scenes. So how would that make him a cheerleader of Destiel?
-Destiel fans admitted to being queerbaited, which is bad and can lead to other shows in the future doing that. I’m gonna add the definition of queerbaiting: "a marketing technique for fiction and entertainment in which creators hint at, but then do not actually depict, same-sex romance or other LGBTQ representation." -from Wikipedia. I'm sorry but there was little queerbaiting with Destiel... because Dean would CONSTANTLY be a jerk to Castiel then we'd have like... one scene where Dean wasn't a jerk to Castiel in the episode, then never see a scene where Dean was kind to Castiel until two episodes later.
-"Dean isn’t straight!!!" Yuh he is straight, have you seen him with a man? Let alone, feel comfortable with one romantically? I'll type up all of the episodes in which he was passively homophobic later on... AND don’t push Sam into this saying some stupid stuff like “he’s homophobic!”
-“Jensen is homophobic!” I actually used to believe this until I woke up and did some research on that. How that started was by Dean, the character Jensen plays, not saying "I love you" back to Castiel/Misha. They're practically forcing the ship to happen. Jensen was just following the script, same with Misha. They're under a contract guys, they don't have much say in it. However, there have been some rumors saying Jensen is homophobic even before 15x18. I cannot confirm this but I've heard that Jensen did decline a fan's request to hold a pride flag... but there's not much context behind it because the fan themself could of been weird and creepy and harassing Jensen, or forcing Jensen to say Dean is something so he needs to hold up that pride flag. Or... yes, Jensen was lowkey being homophobic...
-Destiel fans are signing stuff to change the ending... like??? That won’t work. The cast's contract with CW is done. Also, this like the equivalent of Trump’s “STOP THE COUNT!!” and “I won the election!!!”.... changing stuff to make people believe you are right. That's hella manipulative. -[Insert that one shot of all of the crew together at the end of 15x20.] Destiel fan: "WHY WASN'T CASTIEL THERE?!! WITH DEAN IN HEAVEN?!?!!?!?!" Okay, firstly, Jack wasn't there too and he's now God, covid happens and the writers really wanted Bobby's actor to be there ((I forgot why, I'll add it in later!!! BUT THERE'S A REASON)). Mary and John Winchester could of been in that finale... there are so many characters that could of been in that finale guys, but COVID-19 happened. The lack of characters was for the actors' safety. I don't know about you but some show isn't more important than my own safety. Besides, the contract is about to be lifted, and they had other shows to act in.... Jared with Walker... Jensen with The Boys...
-"How is Destiel bad for mlm...? It's gay ship..." I already answered that question, but I just wanted to remind you guys that Destiel fans WILL ask this. But I'll sum it up for you guys: it's fetishization because you're pairing up a toxic man who sees that other person as another brother/best friend. Also, that 'toxic man' isn't bisexual. He always has been with females and makes lowkey homophobic remarks. On top of that, Dean has beaten Castiel up sooooo many times, both physically and mentally. ***This essay is a WIP... and I take constructive criticism. However, if you are a Destiel fan and write about this, I will ignore you.

She Freak
Oh, boy, this is going to be a fucking delight.  If the 1932 movie Freaks were Invasion of the Saucer Men, She Freak would be Attack of the The Eye Creatures.  Freaks is a very troubling movie, but it does go to great effort to present the denizens of the sideshow as human beings who can be loving, greedy, heartbroken, or naïve as much as anyone else, and who find family in each other when the rest of the world rejects them – and must be very careful who they let into that club.  The horror of the story is derived as much from their predicament as from the fate of Cleopatra.  She Freak is… not like that.
A woman named Jade Cochrane works at a little diner somewhere in the south, quietly (and sometimes not-so-quietly) enduring sexual harassment from both the customers and her married boss.  Wanting more out of life, she quits her job and goes looking for work at a passing carnival, which she figures will at least allow her to travel.  From there she sets her sights on marrying Steve St. John, the owner of the freak show and the richest man connected with this community. Unfortunately for everybody around her, even this very moderate form of power corrupts Jade to the core, and after too much of her mistreatment, the sideshow stars take a horrible revenge!
The opening sequence is a bunch of carnival footage in which everybody looks bored, worryingly reminiscent of both Carnival Magic and MUZ.  Even worse, quite a bit of it is shot by somebody sitting on a moving ferris wheel or other midway ride.  I’ve never been able to enjoy midway rides because I get motion sickness (I can’t see J. J. Abrams movies in theatres for the same reason), so this was not a fun experience for me, even on my tiny laptop screen.  It goes on way too long, and most of it doesn’t even have any credits over it.  Crow would have fled to go throw up in a corner.
The moment I knew She Freak belonged on MST3K, however, is this shot:

What the hell does that sign say?  YHJCY A+ FTJB?  What does it mean?  Is it an acronym?  A secret code?  An in-joke? A message to or from aliens?  That would have fascinated Mike and the ‘bots.  They’d have built a whole host sketch around that sign.
She Freak is tooth-rattlingly bad in many different ways.  I don’t know what any of the people in it think they’re doing but it sure isn’t acting.  It’s relentlessly padded, full of pointless footage of putting the midway up, taking the midway down, putting the midway back up again, and carnival-goers wandering around looking dazed.  At one point we have to watch a stripper do her act, to a chorus of background hooting and applause that sure isn’t coming from the bored-to-shit audience we see.  Most of the film feels like nothing is happening, and then what ought to have been the entire plot is crammed into the last fifteen minutes.
The one place where there is a glimmer of competence is in a couple of quite nice directing choices.  There’s a scene where Jade leaves her new husband with his buddies and sneaks off to bang the guy who runs the ferris wheel, Blackie (don’t worry, he’s white. She Freak has a little person called ‘Shorty’, but to my relief it wasn’t tasteless enough to cast a character named ‘Blackie’ as an African American) that makes a very good use of shadows to tell us what’s going on in two places at once.  Pity the film stock is so crappy it almost ruins it.  I also liked how Jade’s scenes with Blackie have proper dialogue, while Steve woos her in a series of montages.  Jade wants to spend time with Blackie, while her marriage to Steve is something she goes through the motions of and gets out of the way.

She Freak really has no right to tout itself as a remake of Freaks, for the simple reason that it isn’t even about the sideshow.  The older movie had characters like Hans the dwarf and Daisy and Violet the conjoined twins, who were people with relationships and roles in the plot.  In She Freak we never even see the sideshow that so upsets Jade in an early scene.  There’s Shorty, the little guy in a cowboy hat who works for the carnival, but when we see him he’s acting like he’s Steve’s friend and assistant rather than one of the exhibits.  An armless woman and a few people in funny makeup appear at the climax, but we’ve never seen them before and we have no idea who they are.  Where the hell is the ‘Alligator Girl’ the banners promised?
It’s probably all for the best.  If there had been any ‘unusual people’ with major roles in the movie it would doubtless have treated them in a disgusting and exploitative manner.  But what’s on screen shouldn’t even pretend to be a remake of Freaks.
As the owner of the sideshow, Steve insists that he cares about his employees and considers them ‘human beings, just like you and me’. He tells Jade that many of them came from abusive homes, and that in his show they’re able to earn a living and be around others who won’t judge them.  This is a reasonably noble sentiment, but what we are subsequently shown is somewhat at odds with it.  Steve says his employees are also his friends, but he hangs out and plays cards with the other carnies, not with them.  When Shorty tells him that Jade is cheating on him, Steve slaps him like he would a misbehaving child.  This is not how people treat friends and equals.
You may have guessed where this is heading: in one of my favourite running complaints, yep, we have nobody to root for in this movie.  We’re probably supposed to like Steve, but he’s bland and his actions don’t agree with his words insisting he’s a nice, compassionate guy. The character from whose point of view we see the events is of course Jade, but Jade is the villain of the movie and we’re watching it to see her hubris destroy her.  That means the protagonists ought to be the sideshow people themselves, but since we never actually meet them, their revenge is meaningless. In this context they are not human beings, they are not characters, they are merely what Jade has been calling them all along: monsters.
(Shorty, by the way, is played by Felix Silla, who is the closest thing this movie has to a star. He was Cousin Itt on the Addams Family TV show.)

She Freak presents us with several reasons why we ought to dislike Jade.  She’s introduced working at the greasy little diner, where she turns down a date first with a customer and then with her boss.  The customer accepts this gracefully but the boss does not.  The scene tries to show us Jade as an uppity bitch who thinks she’s too good for other people, but her boss is such a slimy toad that we have to take her side.  She tells us how her mother married too young and lost any chance at her own dreams, and while Claire Brennan is a terrible actress, the story is one that inspires sympathy.  When Jade seizes on the carnival as her chance for escape she becomes downright pathetic.  I mean, how awful is your life if a travelling midway and sideshow seems like a step up in the world?
Of course, as the movie continues we find that Jade really is just a snotty bitch whose idea of ‘getting more out of life’ is having a rich husband to carry her bags when she goes shopping. She sees others only as what they can provide to her – Steve for money, Blackie for sex.  This attitude blinds her to others’ true intentions.  She is entirely oblivious to the fact that Blackie is an abusive bastard or that Steve honestly loves her.  The lesson of the movie seems to be ‘beware of women who want more out of life.’  She should have known her place!
This is a pretty nasty attitude towards women but there are other female characters who are treated a bit better.  Pat the stripper tried marriage and domesticity and didn’t like it.  She seems to enjoy working at the carnival and is gregarious and kind-hearted.  We’re invited to leer at her performance but she’s presented as much less trashy than Jade, who considers herself above such things. Pat continues to try to be a friend to Jade for as long as she can, and keeps giving her second chances long after it should be obvious that Jade isn’t interested in reciprocating her kindness. There’s also Olga the fortune-teller, who needed to support herself after her husband died.  The three of them even manage to have conversations that pass the Bechdel test.  In a movie called She-Freak that’s almost impressive.
The ending of She Freak is the only place where it really even seems inspired by Freaks.  The sideshow employees take their revenge on Jade, and we see her on display in the sideshow, licking a snake and wearing some unconvincing Harvey Dent makeup.  This is supposed to feel like justice, in that she has become what she most hated, but it’s been so watered down by the movie’s refusal to humanize the sideshow, or even to show us Jade interacting with them at all, that it has no power to horrify.  It’s a big letdown after the opening scene that promised us a horrible freak that was once a human being.  Why does her burned side have an elf ear?

Invasion of the Saucer Men was not a good movie, at all, but it still deserved better than Attack of the The Eye Creatures.  It’s up for debate whether Freaks was technically ‘good’ but it was an ambitious film with much to say about how human beings treat one another and about the eugenics movement of the 1930s.  In fact, the US National Film Registry considers Freaks one of the most significant films ever made, and it currently boasts a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.  The fact that writer David Friedman claimed She Freak was a remake of Freaks just proves that, like the audiences who booed that film in 1932, he never bothered to understand it.

(A/n- I had to give the reader a name, there’s reason behind it but you can change it if you want. I changed some of the plot and some of the scenes but mostly it’s the same. I do not own the supernatural series but there are some things that are completely my imagination, it has nothing to do with the actual mythology or the series)

Charlie was sobbing when you found her in the park. You guys quickly went up to her and you sat beside her on the park bench. "Hey, what happened?" You asked, rubbing her shoulder softly, knowing she was scared of you. She told you about Jill between sobs.
"And they found her on the bathroom floor. And her-her eyes were gone." She completed her story and looked at you with pleading eyes. "I'm sorry." You whispered, loud enough. "And she said it. I heard her say it. But it couldn't be because of that. I'm insane right?" She said and you realised this might be the only time when telling a woman she's crazy could be a good thing.
"No, you're not insane." replied Dean.
"Oh god, that makes me feel so much words."
"Look...We think something's happening here. Something that can't be explain." Sam said like it was suppose to make her feel better. "And we're gonna stop it. But we could use your help." Dean said and you knew where this was going.
Charlie took the three of you to Jill's house. "There. That's her room." She said pointing at the window on the first floor. Then she went to the front of her house so she could let you in her room.
"Do all the teenagers have to live on the first floor." You groaned but then realised you were just one of them. Sam was the first one to climb up, and then he helped you and then Dean. Charlie soon opened the window letting the three of you in.
"What did you tell Jill's mom?" You asked.
"Just that I needed some time alone with Jill's pictures and stuff. I hate lying to her." She replied.
"Trust us, this is for greater good. Hit the lights." Dean said and she turned off the lights and something caught your eyes on the wall behind Jill's bed. "Is that Nick Carter?" You stared at the life size poster of the member of back street boys. "Sorry." You apologized when you saw three pairs of eyes glaring at you. You never let your inner fangirl out. NEVER. But you always wanted a life size poster of backstreet boys or at least one of them.
"What are you looking for?" She asked after shaking her head and trying to ignore the comment you just made. "We'll let you know as soon as we find it." Dean replied as Sam took out the video camera. "Hey, night vision." Sam said and turned the camera to you and you pressed a button to turn on the night vision. "Thanks. Perfect." He commented and turned it to his older brother. "Do I look like Paris Hilton?" He asked, posing for the camera.
"No, but you do look like Butthead." You said making Sam and Charlie chuckle and Dean glare at you. Sam opened Jill's closet and started filming on the mirror and around it.
"So I don't get it. I mean first victim didn't summon Mary and the second victim did. How's she choosing them?" You asked crossing your arms across your chest and letting the Winchester do all the work. "Beats me." Said Sam. "I wanna know why Jill said it in the first place." Dean said stopping in the middle of the room with the EMF in his hand. "It was just a joke." Charlie answered, a little shamefully.
"Yeah well, somebody's gonna say it again. It's just a matter if time." You pointed out the obvious.
"Hey." Sam said and turned to face him, he was looking at something under the mirror through the video camera. "There's a blacklight in the trunk right?" Sam asked.
"I'll get it." You grabbed Dean's keys and jumped out of the window.
When you got back inside Sam had already pulled out the mirror and laid it on the bed. He peeled off the brown paper and you tossed him the black light. He shined it on the back of the mirror revealing a handprint with a name.
"Gary Bryman?" Charlie read it out loud. "You know who that is?" Sam asked her and she said "No."
You and Sam went to the library to do some research on Gary Bryman, Dean and Charlie waited for you in the park, according to him if he steps into one more library, his head would explode. A big wide grin came across your face when you finally found what you were looking for. "I told you I am good at this." You said turning toward Sam and flipping your hair dramatically. "Yes you are." Sam agreed with a slight chuckle. "Now tell me I'm a genius."
"You're a genius."
When you got back to the park Dean and Charlie were sitting on a bench and Sam and you started explaining what you guys found. "So, with the help of my incredible skills we found out that Gary Bryman was a 8 years old boy killed in a hit and run 2 years ago." You explained and Sam continued the rest. "The car was described as a black Toyota Camry, but no one ever got the plates or saw the driver."
"Oh my god." Charlie gasped and you asked her what happened.
"Jill drove that car." She answered looking up at me and then at Dean. The 3 of you looked at each other with knowing looks on your faces. "We need to get back to your friend Donna's house.”
The 3 of you went to the shoemaker house with Charlie. You had no idea how she managed to get you guys in. You rush to the bathroom and Sam pulled off the mirror in front of which Steven shoemaker died. Sam shone the blacklight on the mirror and read the name out loud. "Linda shoemaker."
"Why are you asking me all this?" Donna asked when you questioned her about the named woman and about her death. "Look, we're sorry, but it's important." Sam, being the ever so polite one, said. "Yeah. Linda's my mom, ok? And she overdosed on sleeping pills. It was an accident, and that's it... I think you should leave." She said when you didn't look convinced. She knew you guys were kinda accusing her dad for her mom's death.
"Donna just listen-"
"Get out of my house." She yelled before you could finish your sentence and walked away. "Rude." You mumbled and rolled your eyes.
"Oh my god. Do you really think her dad could've killed her mom?" She asked with a gasp. "Maybe." Sam said and you rolled your eyes. "Fuck maybe. He definitely did." You said without thinking twice. "Sorry." You apologised looking at the 3 pairs of eyes glaring at you again. "I think I should stick around." Charlie and you nodded.
"Alright, well, just whatever you do, don't-"
"Believe me, I won't say it."
The 3 of you decided to do some more research after. You and Dean were sitting in front of the computer searching about any Mary who died in front of a mirror anywhere in this country. "Wait, wait, wait, you're searching nation-wide search?" Sam asked.
"Yep, the NCIC, the FBI database. At this point any Mary in this country who died in front of a mirror is good enough." You said, successfully hacking into another database.
"But if she's haunting the town, she should have died in the town."
"I'm telling you there's nothing local. we've checked. So unless you've got a better idea." Dean said staring at the screen as you scrolled through case files. "The way she's choosing her victims, it seems like there's a pattern." Sam said. "I know I was thinking the same thing." Dean said and you continued looking through the database. "With Mr. Shoemaker and Jill's hit and run--"
"Both had secrets where people died." You completed his sentence. "Right. There's a lot of folklores about mirrors that they reveal all your lies, your secret. That they're a true reflection of your soul, which is why it's bad luck to break 'em."
"Yeah, yeah, so maybe if you've got a secret like a really nasty one where someone died then Mary sees it and punishes you for it." Hearing Dean say it, it all came crashing down to you. You couldn't make eye contact with either of the boys, so you stare at the computer screen harder, you didn't even hear who said what next. The mouse was not in your hand any more. "Alex, ALEX." A voice broke you out from your almost panic attack. "What?" You asked looking between the boys.
"Are you ok? What happened? You're sweating like crazy." Sam said and your hand subconsciously went to your face. "Oh, nothing. I just, I'm gonna go get some fresh air." You didn't wait for an answer, just grabbed your jacket and walked out of the motel room. The boys gave each other confused looked.
You walked out to the parking lot, looking up at the starry sky. Maybe this case was it for you. Maybe it was Universe showing you signs that it was your time to get punished for the past, but you did what you did to protect yourself, there's nothing wrong with protecting yourself. And the person who really deserved a punishment, got it.
"Do I deserve to die like this?" You ask looking at the sky, particularly to no one.
"And who are you exactly talking to?" A voice came and you turn around to see a blue eyed boy with blond hair, he looked about your age.
"To my friend, his name is 'none of your damn business.' " you replied wittily and turning back to look at the sky. You felt him walking up beside you. "Brick." He said introducing himself. "Don't care." You said in a monotone.
"Liam was right." He said to himself and you looked at him with and you looked at him with an raised eyebrow. "My friend Liam, he says, the prettier the girl the crazier she is." His words made you laugh this time.
"That's bullshit."
"No seriously. You're lucky you're pretty otherwise you look really crazy standing here talking to the sky."
"You have no idea just how crazy I am."
"I do. Just told you. 'the prettier the girl the crazier she is.' and I don't know why but crazy is kinda my type." For a second he made you blush and you looked away. "But seriously what are you doing here?" He asked looking around at the empty parting lot.
"Just taking some fresh air. Trust me these rooms can be pretty suffocating sometimes. What are you doing here?" You asked with an raised eyebrow.
"OH, I work here. I was just taking out the trash."
"You work here?" You raised an eyebrow looking down his outfit. A pair of jeans and a blue button up which wasn't even buttoned up and a white T-shirt inside.
"My dad kinda owns this place so I get to skip the uniform sometimes." You nodded and tuck a strand of hair behind your ear that fell on your face. "weird how you know about my job and I don't even know your name."
"It's.."
"Alex, think we found one.......In Indiana." Dean trailed off looking at the blond boy beside you as he walked up to the two of you. Dean was clearly glaring at the guy and he was glaring back at Dean.
"Dean, this is Brick, he works here and Brick this is Dean. My--"
"Boyfriend. I'm her boyfriend." Dean said cutting you off and the glare on Bricks face turned into hurt. Before you could open your mouth and defend yourself he said. "Oh, I'm sorry, Man. I didn't know she was taken. I'll get going then." He smiled at you and walked away.
"What was that?" You asked glaring at the Winchester standing in front of you. He didn't answer your question instead turned around and started walking. "No. Don't you dare ignore me Winchester. Why'd you tell him you're my boyfriend."
He suddenly stopped walking and turned around making you bump in his chest. "Because..... Because I wanted to."
"Oh because... Because you wanted to? You know what then? I'll go in there and strip in front of him because I want to."
"No, you won't." He said with a frown.
"Oh try me." You said turning around threatening to go back. In a quick movement he grabbed your hand pulled you back to him. "You will do no such thing, you get it. We are leaving for Indiana..... Now." with that he dragged you inside the motel.
The two hours ride to fourt Wayne was pretty awkward for you and Dean, although Sam had no idea why you guys were suddenly not talking to each other. Again. Sam made some phone calls which you didn't really pay attention to. All you knew was that you guys were meeting a detective at the station about Mary Worthington and apparently you were reporters.
