ok. here is my attempt to make a coherent post about the watch bbc.
my main reaction, over and over again watching the first episode, is: CHOICES WERE MADE. truly inscrutable choices for which I cannot possibly understand the rationale or thought process. If I was adapting discworld for the screen, it would ever in a million years occur to me to make these choices. some of these choices include, in no particular order:
cut-me-own-throat dibbler is a white woman with dreadlocs who uses a wheelchair. I can NOT make this up.
vetinari is also a woman. .....I have nothing else to say about this.
instead of a dragon sanctuary, sybil runs some kind of femdom petplay sex dungeon for bedraggled old men. including vimes. and this is how they meet. she traps him in her sex dungeon.
she's also skinny and average height. I repeat: sybil ramkin is SHORTER THAN VIMES.
the actor playing vimes does have a very vimey look about him I won't lie, I even like his little fauxhawk hair situation, but his performance is completely baffling. he's always making an over-the-top jim carrey face but doesn't sell it nearly as well as jim carrey so it's just awkward and not funny.
vimes' accent is also completely unplaceable. I swear it's different in every single scene. sometimes american, sometimes irish, sometimes an american doing a bad impression of an irish accent or vice versa. watching @fealtyfaggot (irish)'s face in real time as he tried to calculate this man's accent was entertaining to say the least.
honestly, every actor sounds like the director instructed them to do an irish accent except they're all bad at irish accents so they all sound weird in their own unique way.
goodboy bindle featherstone is a normal-sized, horrible cgi lizard and sybil uses him like a handheld flamethrower.
the series is attempting (and FAILING) to adapt the events of guards! guards! and night watch simultaneously. carcer is killmongerfied into a black man (not raceblind casting as ciarán pointed out to me, they specifically put out a casting call for a black actor) who is justifiably angry at the police system. and he's carcer. so he's still the main antagonist and a crazed serial killer. he's the bad guy.
john keel was also black and vimes is white, so while it doesn't actually happen in the first episode it seems apparent that CARCER will end up being the one to impersonate keel?!
AND carcer was best friends with vimes and they had some kind of ~history~ together where there was some kind of dramatic betrayal and vimes attempted suicide(?). what
I guess dwarves are.... not short? cheery is normal human height.
carrot's tragic backstory where he was thrown down a mineshaft as a baby (I laughed out loud when he said this) and his adoptive dwarf parents sent him to join the watch cause they hate him and are trying to get rid of him.
just...... why the cyberpunk angle? discworld isn't the most traditional, historically accurate medieval fantasy out there and it's not supposed to be, but.... WHY CYBERPUNK?
I almost forgot: colon and nobby are completely absent.
my only question after watching this is WHY. WHY WHY WHY WHY. why is this a discworld adaptation? why did they decide to adapt discworld in this way? there is absolutely no respect or appreciation for the source material or understanding of what makes it good. whoever came up with this does not seem to like discworld very much at all. every single second of these 42 minutes was a slap in the face.
If this was just its own show, not related to discworld in any way, it would still be pretty bad. But I could still see it having a cult following you know? there would for sure be a niche tumblr fandom for it. the best thing I can say about this show is that it would have been good if literally everthing about it was different.

Being in fandoms where the characters are clearly based on other pieces of media/famous figures is so much fun because then some of my ships look like this:
Parentified Goldilocks who is also The Beast x Avoidance attachment Beauty who is ALSO also The Beast, one of my fav moments with them is when they off the Minotaur together who is ALSO also also The Beast
Little Red Riding Hood if she was also the Wolf and has galloons of repressed trauma x Snow White but she’s heavily knight coded and the poster child of daddy issues
Edgar Allen Poe’s Lenore x Annabel Lee but they’re in gay ghost love
The poem ‘The Last Rose of Summer’ x Odin’s raven Huginn but they’re exes still in love in a milf yuri divorce that ends super mega tragically and domino effects mommy issues out the ass
Historical figures Cleopatra x Frida Kahlo with the most chef’s kiss height difference you’ve ever seen
A polycule with Joan of Arc x Mulan x Thor x Achilles but they’re all genderbent/trans
The Velveteen Rabbit x fashion icon Coco Chanel if she was a lesbian with a gun
Frankenstein’s monster x a different sapphic Cleopatra bc baby gays <3333
Okay okay that black cat from Poe’s, well, The Black Cat x Poe’s Eulalie is cute yes
But I actually really REALLY love Poe’s Eulalie x Poe’s Berenice bc they’re “me and the bad bitch I pulled by being autistic” personified
The Snow Queen with mega daddy issues x Robin Hood if he was a socialist lesbian I SAIDDDD ITTTT
Imma say it historical figures JFK x Confucius were adorable bros
Aesop’s Fisherman x Odin’s other bird Munin you will always be famous my tragic old man yaoi <////3
Y’all will really have to hear me out here when I say Cinderella if she fucken snapped x ice cream Mad Hatter because couples who are terrible to each other but in a “only I’m allowed to be a horrid to them” way can be so funny
And I could go o n fer ages but the point is imagine explaining these ships to someone like 30 years ago with ZERO context their heads would explode and it’d be so funny

Frozen Stage Musical thoughts
December 2022 + October 2023  (because I forgot to make the initial post, so this is 2 for 1)
disclaimer: Some of my 2023 additions are probably not really *new* but it's hard to remember everything... Anyway, here are the notes I took right after seeing the shows!  + This is neither coherent nor an analysis, mostly just reactions to a few things lol, not even going to mention the songs cause they ALL slap
ACT 1
- Sir Jörgenbjorgen! He's right there! But he's Anna's stuffie? What does that mean?? (also is Olaf frozen advenure canon again?)
- Idunas scarf from F2!! Also right there! She's wearing it and then wraps Anna up in it after she is struck by Elsa's magic (love that)
- Iduna tells the trolls that she's Northuldra! She's the one who calls them to help Anna (setting up F2)
- Grand Pabi is uh not so gran anymore huh & Bulda says they love kids (raised a few of them themselves), and to bring Anna and Elsa around sometime
- It was a choice (neutral) to make the trolls hot
- Update: Idunna says they'll search far and wide for magical answers
- Update: Also, the gloves Elsa wears? They were Idunas!
- Update: And it looked like Iduna wanted to reply to Pabi asking "born or cursed" when Agnar interrupts and says "born" (I might have seen that wrong, but it made me think this is setting up F3??)
- Olaf actually asks about "Samantha?" When Anna and Kristoff hear him in the woods, wondering who's talking as he joins in on looking for himself... haha (Update: he asks for Samantha during "In Summer")
- Anna and Hans dancing! All the choreography is amazing and wow, but they do this funny bit of doing different (modern) dance moves together and it's pretty endearing
- when Anna tells Hans "I'm not the heir. I'm just the spare" referencing the outtake song that helped develop her character!! (Update: this hit the West End audience way different post-Prince Harry's book "Spare" and was hilarious!)
- Costumes!! HOLY SHIT, the details the materials the glitter in Elsa's ice, all of it is insane and regal and beautiful, and so well thought out I want a huge artbook with all the details, please
- Anna (Stephanie McKeon) could totally play Galinda; very Chenoweth voice qualities??? (Update: I got Gabrielle from Xena vibes for some reason, idk (Anna was Laura Dawkes))
- Wow they are doing amazing with the ice and the million and one backdrops! Insane! Also with the lights?! It's magical!
- Update: Oh my god Elsa (Laura Emmit) is so tiny and petite, the different statues of actresses always add a different flavour to the character design somehow? (Like it is so fun with Glinda and Elphaba and what their height difference will be each time) (I love everything unique an actress/actor will bring to their role)
- Elsa is like 10x more regal? I can't explain it but she very much feels like she's living in a piece of historical fiction more so than a fairytale. but I love it, it's brilliant and adds some layers too, she's so poised in the first act and polite and nods at the court like that(TM)
- more amazing dancing moments
- The Duke of Weselton calls Elsa pretty in a weird way while asking her to dance and later calls her "just a little girl" and lets out some sexism that women are weak, which is very in character and another addition to how the stage musical feels more realistic in a way? Or at least caters more towards adults
- he also says something VERY similar to Atohallen's memory of Elsa's grandfather; that magic is unnatural and uh I forgot the actual wording, but he essentially said the same thing = nothing good comes of magic (especially in the hands of a woman) (yes he says that)
- idk if Sven is amazing, cute and perfect or uncannily creepy lmao but gotta love him! Olaf is obviously perfectly recreated! (Update: Sven is so cute oh my god) (also Mikayla Jade is the first woman to ever play the role! She's a really cool stunt performer!)
- Anna is VERY flirty with Hans lmao, girl is so thirsty (the way she touched that statue's tits in "for the first time in forever" ahahaha) (Update: girl is so horny, all those adult jokes, did she actually get more horny this time? Bless her)
- Update: They don't make blorbos like Elsa anymore, for real
- Anna's snow outfit is so cute!!! With her hair open? And the hat and all that...
- Still gagging at the dress change in Let it go!
ACT 2
- Bulda asks if Anna doesn't want to marry Kristoff because of how she raised him, further solidifying how the trolls are his family
- PLUS when he joins the trolls dance! Because he KNOWS it! Wonderful moment (also wonderful when Anna starts joining in, all of her dances are so sweet and fun and Anna's love language is dance, I don't take criticism)
- child Anna's cast also played the baby troll during fixer-upper upper and it's the cutest scenes!
- Weselton and Hans both actually said they wanted to kill Elsa! Like the word kill has been said twice (2), and I just didn't expect it because Disney movies do like to dance around that one- it's really intense
- Elsa's pants and corset combo in the second act looked cool in pictures online, but seeing it irl? in the third row? Holy shit it's stunning! Her let it go dress too of course, but she looked amazing in this new outfit wow - the detail - (this is the part where I don't talk about how the corset, respectfully, she was just very stunning and wow Samantha Barks had the smallest waist ever known to man in that thing!)
- God those costumes are siccccc, a lot of this musical feels like historical fiction and is so so well thought out! The dances and songs and ten thousand backdrops are INSANE
- Instead of being knocked out by the falling chandelier, Elsa goes with the guards willingly, and they handcuff her on the spot (at the ice palace) Which is... a blow to my heart to say the least, but makes sense! She just asks to be taken to Anna, to make sure she's safe... being handcuffed and dragged off is perfectly reasonable for her!
- Update:
Weselton: "Even the queen is shivering"  Elsa: "I'm not cold"  Hans: "She's scared"
- the entire scene where Anna freezes to death (that also resembled dangerous to dream with the ensamble lifting Anna up; as the spotlight of Elsa's attention) was phenomenally choreographed and I have no words!!
TLDR: It's too mind-blowingly amazing for words, and so incredibly thought out! And it's a little more grown up too, adding some layers and fleshing out bits and bobs that I really enjoyed

I have headcanons for what each Clone High character would be as an animal. Why? Because Im silly AND I can't stop thinking about Beastars or instincts au. 😱 I wanted it to reflect their historical figure because they’d still be clones just like… an animal version.
I might post a different one with side characters/additional ones bla bla bla YEAH. Tell me your thoughts
Abe - Rocky Mountain Elk, it fits him okay? He’s never NOT been a deer-type-thing in my mind but I feel like an elk fits even better. Imagine if his antlers fell off in shed? That’d be so silly. I bet his horns give him a big ego (he definitely counts them in his overall height)
Joan - Red Fox, for her it was between that and a gray wolf. I just like her being a Fox more. I feel like they have a stronger association with being persecuted as well as femininity. Not quite as big as a wolf either. Bonus, clone with red hair. Boom. Her fur could be RED red too.
JFK - German Shepherd. I knew from the GET GO he’d be a dog, but what kind? I danced between a couple of breeds before deciding on a German shepherd. The real JFK owned a few different breeds of dogs (and hamsters and cats etc.) and he had one- so that added to me choosing this breed.
Cleopatra - Egyptian Mau. She is SO cat. I thought of a Sphinx cat briefly but they aren’t really renowned as beautiful and also ARENT from Egypt. They are from Canada. Maybe Ashley Angel from O-Town was a Spinx cat idk. She 100% licks Frida’s head.
Gandhi - Pangolin. I HONESTLY CANT CHOOSE, but I think a Pangolin is my favorite choice. Super-odd animals from India that are unique and AWESOME. It just feels kind of random. I feel like a Chinkara/Indian Gazelle or a Tortoise could work too! But my heart is set on Pangolin Gandhi. I think it’s especially silly.
Frida - Spider Monkey. I was initially thinking goat for her. They aren’t too big, they symbolize creativity, and she’d ROCK having horns. Then I did my research on the real Frida Kahlo to see if any animals represented her already. Knowing monkeys are intelligent and emotional beings it changed my mind pretty fast. Also made me wonder what are some of the thoughts Frida has about her clone mother but that’s for another time-
Harriet - Barred Owl. If you didn’t know these are THE owls by the way, the real “WHOOO” owls. I was stuck on what to choose for her so, research focused- Harriet Tubman used the call of a Barred Owl to signal safety to refugees. I briefly had the idea to choose a crow for their mimicry skills however I feel like that choice could easily be misinterpreted. I am very attached to owl Harriet with BIG puffy feathers.
Confucius - Rabbit. I feel like he is so… bunny. It’s him! They are energetic and witty but can also be described as lazy or superficial. I like it + it makes his dynamic with Harriet interesting as a predator/prey couple. He wouldn't be a domesticated breed either, a full on hare.
Topher - Italian Wolf. POSSUM IS SUCH AN EASY CHOICE, but I don’t think that one guy would be a possum. I was thinking Otter because I thought he was always a nautical guy but he was just some guy in some standard family.. ish... I don’t remember I looked at the wiki a few days ago. Whatever. I want a wolf. He’s that wolf.
(Also I think it’s funny that the main trifecta of Abe ships are all him with canines. It’s silly.)

okay I just saw a Richard III stan on twitter claim that there's no way Elizabeth of York could have loved Henry VII because he was Ugly(tm) and so I just had to say/vent: the obsession with using physical attractiveness to unironically rate and compare historical figures is really fucking weird. This generally tends to happen with women (Henry VIII's wives in particular) but it's pretty common to see it with fans of Richard III as well, who are generally negative to Henry VII. Which is both very frustrating and very funny, because putting aside the generic compliments issued to royals, NEITHER of them were hailed as singularly attractive or singularly charismatic during their time as far as I know, they both looked like Some Guys who ruled the nation and (in Henry's case, idk much about Richard's reign) were quite good at it. And in Henry's case, its doubly weird and mean-spirited because I believe he was sick when his portrait was being made?
I mean, it's certainly not as though someone insulting a historical monarch's physical appearance is a major crime or anything lol, you do you, but it does become an issue when it spills into an analysis and examination of them as rulers and individuals. There's really no need to turn important periods of history into a hotness contest.
Also (more of a general rant), generally speaking, attractiveness was a feature conveniently assigned to most people of high status, and was almost a exaggerated. It's also relatively easy to identity genuine undeniable attractiveness based on the sheer intensity and awe with which contempraries raved about the people who possessed it (Elizabeth Woodville, Edward IV and all their children were key examples of that lmao, as well as geoffrey of anjou and Philip iv of France as far as men were concerned), which was usually quite rare because the majority of people were not supermodels and were not expected to be lmao.
(a bit irrelevant, but I feel like the guy who played Henry in the white princess was absolutely perfectly for a younger version of his portrait, I haven't watched the show but I absolutely loved his casting)
Oh, I think Jacob Collins-Levy does look like a young Henry VII indeed, even if a more 'polished' version of him. Certainly, I think the real Henry VII had a much stronger nose, which leads me to the main part of your comment: some people find big noses attractive, for example. People experience attraction in such different ways! Someone might be attracted to another person's voice or hands, to someone's attention to detail or alternatively to their carefree attitude, to someone's jokes or their way of speaking or caring for their family or someone's intellect and insight. Attraction is a vast and varied universe, and to me it seems quite childish to reduce it only to someone's facial features. We don't even know what his body looked like, for example; we only have Vergil's word that his height was 'above the average', and Bishop Fisher's word that Henry was 'tall and of a fine build'.
Even if you consider Henry Tudor to have been the ugliest man in the world (which I doubt, as he was described as 'remarkably attractive' in his later years still), it's quite possible there was something about him that charmed people around him, in the sense that he was able to inspire extraordinary loyalty throughout his life. Thomas More said Bishop Foxe would give up his own father's head in order to serve Henry VII; Thomas Lovell was reported to have only one painting in his multiple residences, precisely a portrait of Henry VII. Henry was able to inspire and retain the trust of 400 Englishmen for two years in exile. The same thing that was attractive to his followers might have been attractive to Elizabeth of York as well, surely? We don't know!
According to a Venetian ambassador, Henry was 'gracious and grave', and according to Commynes, he was 'very pleasant, an elegant character, and a fine ornament in the court of France'. Once, during a conversation with the Spanish ambassador, his speech was described as 'like precious jewels'. I find it doubtful that Henry VII was an all-around unlikable, unattractive figure. And that's simply going by the premise that he was extraordinarily ugly, though when compared to other European rulers at the time, it seems reasonable to call him 'just some guy', if not actually attractive (see Charles VIII, Maximilian I, Louis XII, Ferdinand of Aragon, and even Philip 'the Fair').
I linked portraits in this ask but I don't even believe they are much conducive to a good discussion on attractiveness at all. It's not uncommon to find that many figures who were described as handsome/attractive (eg: Philip the Fair) don't actually look handsome/attractive to a 21st-century audience. And that might be simply because portraits or painting techniques of the time weren't able to transcribe their real physical attractiveness to us or because their ideas of attractiveness were different from ours—to which I ask: what's even the point of using portraits to call a historical figure attractive or unattractive, then? It's perhaps more useful to go by awed reports of a certain historical figure's attractiveness, as you said, and even then, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. The resident Spanish Ambassador in England, for example, never once mentioned Elizabeth of York's looks in fifteen years, even though her beauty was mentioned elsewhere by other people.
Those types of comments against Henry VII do sound mean-spirited, as you said, even if not especially heinous (he and his family are, after all, dead). It's a sterile argument and proves no point as to a historical figure's ability to inspire loyalty or love in someone else, and even less as to their ability to rule well. If anything else, quite frankly it's not an argument at all, it's just the expected pettiness of a bad loser lol It gets even weirder at their insistence that Richard's reconstruction is especially handsome (which has inspired even some... questionable poetry).

•are there any portrayals of austria's charachter that you don't like or feel is incorrect/misunderstood? [Reply here]
•what are your favorite angst scenarios for Austria ships like pruaus, spaus, aushun, etc? [Reply here]
•what are some characters outside of Hetalia that you think are similar to Austria?
I'm sorry, this is a very hard question for me because I don't really consume much fiction besides the few things I obsess over I've grown attached to ;w; I definitely came across a few characters that gave me Austria vibes here and there, but I can't really think of any right now 💔
•opinions on ausaus(Austria x Australia) and other Austria crackships?
I need AusAus interactions. I absolutely need them. I think it'd be pretty funny to witness them being mistaken for each other despite being so different. I hope Hima delivers one day 🙏 That bit about Austria feeling depressed because in Japanese Austria and Australia are pronounced basically the same and everyone ignoring his proposal to be called Osutori to make it a little different was hilarious 😂
I'm not big on crackships in general but I'm open to them if they're between a character I really like and a character I either really like or I'm familiar enough with.
Speaking of which, I guess this qualification as a crackship so ... I kind of like AmeAus. For reasons. I first started to consider them interacting after realizing that according to their canon heights they're both 177cm! And they also both wear fake glasses and have q similar hairstyle ... Idk, something about it caught my interest a little. Maybe because America is a bit of a himbo and, Spaus and Pruaus docet, Austria definitely likes his men a lil'silly 💗
I also kind of like AusBela bc I read a couple fics about them and I thought their relationship could be interesting!~
•how do you think spaus would work in AU's like cardverse, humanverse, gakuen Hetalia, etc?
I have very poor knowledge of Cardverse and I'm not really interested in it so I'll skip that. But, since Cardverse is about royal families (as far as I know?) and canon SpAus pretty much had a forced marriage à-la political royal strategies, I guess it's the kind of ship that wouldn't be that different in Cardverse..? Unless you maintain the roles they have in their actual cards, which I forgot but I think neither is queen/king. Yeah, I guess I see the potential but I'm not really interested in it as of now so I wouldn't know what to say about it, sorry 💔
I actually like Humanverse set in high school or college a lot, so the first thing I thought about was technically Gakuen ^^ In general, I think I prefer humanverse without much Angst when it comes to them, just give me my babies living their love story and being each other's safe harbor from the troubles of life Q///Q 💕 I also like Humanverse where they're both into music, or at least where music plays a role in the story~ Aww, the thought of Austria playing the piano and Spain playing the guitar 🙏 Always a nice treat no matter if humanverse or nationverse.
I think I wouldn't mind a SpAus Humanverse set in Historical times, even if Nationverse is my go-to preferred place for them, I think a Historical Humanverse would be very interesting.
Speaking of Gakuen!Humanverse, there's a fic I had started reading sooo many years ago (I'd say 2013 or 2014 maybe?), maybe that was even the first SpAus fic I came across, but I only read the beginning and I can't find it anymore ;; The premise was funny though, basically Antonio joined the music club and liked Roderich at first sight, but didn't know how to start a conversation with him or make him interested in him in the slightest. So, when he finds out he's Austrian, he asks Gilbert to teach him something to say in German to use as an icebreaker to start talking to him. But Gilbert is a lovable asshole so he claims to be teaching him something cute but in fact he taught him how to say "I want to fuck you" instead. And that's all I remember, I'm not sure if I stopped reading because the fic stopped there, or because I got busy, but I could never read more yet this premise stuck with me because it got both SpAus and BFT shenanigans which are things I absolutely love. Humanverse!BFT is so chaotic 🔥 Well they're always chaotic :'D
Aaaand, that's all I think. Thank you very much for your questions and I'm sorry if I rambled a bit too much, I hardly ever shut up if I'm given the chance to talk about stuff I'm passionate about, haha ^^' I hope you didn't mind ;w; <3 Have a good day!! (^.^)/💕

The Man (and People) Who Tried to Sell the World: Mad Men
Tumblr media
In 2018, I started grad school and I started Mad Men. This wasn’t my first time watching, or to be clear, it wasn’t my first time trying to watch it. I tried for five years prior to that. But like many people who don’t venture into older media, I found it hard to get into because it was a period drama (which is funny because most people think of corsets and top hats and old British people talking as period dramas, but its really anything that takes place in another time). Mad Men was in a time I would never live in and felt outdated. But I think that initial mentality was my youthful outlook making me think I could never understand the appeal of the past (despite the fact that I love music from the 80’s and other generations that I was not a part of). It’s just a show about the 60s. But like the show’s deuteragonist Peggy, I had to try something different, and it really helped me. I chose to watch it as a character study for everyone involved. I found myself making mental checklists of how I wanted each character to grow if I was gonna keep watching and with that perspective the show kept getting better.
The show takes place in 60’s Manhattan at what I imagine was the height of advertising (I haven’t investigated the truth in that perspective). Companies were booming, creativity was on the rise, and the future was Coming with a capital C for everyone but Don Draper.
Don Draper, as an aside, was the real man of myth and legend in the show, we saw him coming to grips with his identity, making himself his biggest advertising challenge to sell himself the world. And what I mean by that is every move this man makes is calculated so he can achieve what he deems the life a white man like him should want. But, later on, in the back of his mind we can see he struggles with a multi-layered imposter syndrome that no one can really help him with (which as a new grad student, imposter syndrome was a wildly familiar feeling). Because of his status and problems (often caused by himself), every decision he makes changes the course of the show, granted he is the protagonist but truly getting to see how his actions affect everyone else makes watching everyone else a bit more interesting. In my mind, it actually makes watching the show for Peggy Olson the better watch than for Don Draper. Peggy starts as his first assistant in the show and becomes an astronaut of
advertising due, in part, to how Don molds her and guides her, but later as a character independent of him.
The show really takes advantage of its 1960’s setting to show off 60’s fashion, food, and New York culture. Unfortunately, the show also emphasizes civil rights issues of the time and (rampant, as my girlfriend likes to say) misogyny are also highlighted in 1960’s U.S. culture. I say unfortunately because these aren’t moments in our history, we like to revisit because of how much wrongdoing occurred to women and/or people of color. But really, I think, revisiting such moments emphasizes why changes in society are important even if it takes long to get there. This show takes place during the assassinations and rallies of important historical figures and it’s interesting to see how the characters react to (or ignore) such events. It’s also important to imagine how we would react if certain figures we looked up to came and went in our lifetimes.
Overall, this show is a character study I enjoy revisiting... because I see it as an era where people truly started questioning changing things for the better and how advertising can be a reflection of it.
(Speaking of changes, this post was proofread and partially editted by my partner. Her grammar and diction help to articulate my initial thoughts behind this post.)

Hello dear!
For the ask game:
An Inducement to Marry.
1-15? If you don't mind?
And if you see this then I want you to know that I love every single one of your fics! ❤
Ask me about any of my fics x
Omg thank you so much! It boggles my mind to think that you actually read all of them goshhh all my good words as well as my weird ones. Seriously thank you for putting up with them.
An Inducement to Marry isn't a fic that I usually get asked about, but I remember I had a blast writing it! I'm flattered you'd bring it up <3 It's been a while though, so forgive me if my memory lapses a little on this.
1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?
Iirc this was my second Regency AU so at the time I was just getting into writing regencyAU fics for Good Omens and it was pandemic lockdowns and I was at the height of my Jane Austen obsession. I was reading so many books on Regency era customs and culture and I wanted to read regency AUs of A/C so badly but there weren't any of them at the time, so I wrote my own.
2: What scene did you first put down?
I write all the scenes in all my fics in the same order they occur in the story! (With the exception of Strictly Business, which I have had to wrestle with for a bit for various reasons).
3: What’s your favorite line of narration?
I remember really liking all the parts where I went into great detail about how attractive Aziraphale was lmao here's one of them in the opening scene:
Mr Fell was also a right stunner, with eyes bright as Tadfield's perfect summer skies and hair soft as its perfect winter's snow. His countenance was strong. He had a stable, stocky build blanketed by the comfortable, if a bit old-fashioned, textiles of his clothing... A perfectly pleasing man, he was, though one who lived only with his mind in his books even when his hands were completely devoid of them.
4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
From Chapter 9 there's a part where Aziraphale gives Crowley a kiss on the cheek for good luck in his gambling which he says was "In the spirit of keeping you within marriageable conditions" idk why but I thought it's such a funny thing for him to say at the time. Just the most Aziraphale excuse to kiss Crowley ever.
5: What part was hardest to write?
The confession scene with the illumination! It was so emotionally charged and one of the few scenes that made me actually cry as I wrote them.
6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?
I think it's the most Georgette Heyer-ish thing I ever wrote. The plot is a bit more complex than my usual no frills fluff (romance, comedy, banter, adventure). If I ever fulfil my (totally unrealistic) dream of being a published historical romance fiction writer one day I imagine the story would have these exact vibes.
7: Where did the title come from?
It was remixed from a line that Emma Woodhouse says in the beginning part of Jane Austen's 'Emma'. In the novel she says something like "My being charming is not quite enough to induce me to marry". In the 2020 film the line goes "I have none of the usual inducements to marry. Fortune I do not want. Consequence I do not want."
8: Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?
The part where Aziraphale talks about a romance book he likes with the line that goes something like 'For the heart has always bested the mind in performance', I made up the novel title and quotations myself but the themes were based off of Jane Austen's 'Persuasion'. I also mentioned "The Beau" in one part I think, which refers to Beau Brummell, a major arbiter of English mens fashion around the 1810s.
9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
None! I plotted it out on a discord chat from start to finish one lazy afternoon and it behaved exactly like I plotted, thankfully.
10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?
Do I even write about any other pairings lmao
11: What do you like best about this fic?
See answer for no. 6!
12: What do you like least about this fic?
The opening scene is pretty hefty, and some comments did mention that they had a hard time getting past it. I was new to Regency style writing at the time and got too enthusiastic with trying it out. If I were to write that fic now I probably would be more concise about it. Also would try to make it funnier.
13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?
I wrote almost all my Regency AUs while listening to the Pride & Prejudice 2005 and the Emma 2020 OSTs to get me in the old timey mood.
14: Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from reading this fic?
Cheese ice cream is valid and it's hella fuckin delicious and also coming from an Asian perspective, it's far far from being the weirdest ice cream flavour out there.
15: What did you learn from writing this fic?
That gambling culture in the Regency era was wild

bias game
tagged by @moonflowerglowing (thanks nana!)
pick 10 of your biases (or as many biases as you have and then fill in the rest of the spots with idols you like) and number them 1-10. then answer the questions below. try not to look at the questions before you make your list!
1. Hyojin (onf)
2. Haechan (nct)
3. Yuchan (a.c.e)
4. Kanghyun (onewe)
5. Lua (weme)
6. Mina (twice)
7. Jaechan (dkz)
8. Changyoon (onf)
9. Junghoon (ox)
10. Jaeyoon (sf9)
Questions
1. Between 7 and 5, who did you bias first?
i would assume i biased lua first because it took me a while to learn about the dkz boys but i fell in love with lua at first sight
2. Between 2 and 6, who are you more attached to?
haechan, no question. so sorry to my wife mina, but i’ve been a hyuck stan for much longer.
3. If you were to spend the day with either 3 or 1, who would you choose and what would you do?
oh my answer might shock people. i think i’d want to spend the day with chan🫣 just because i feel like he’s a lot more like me in a way? and i feel like we’d have a lot of fun together! i would want to go to an arcade or an amusement park i think that would be so fun. like with hyojin it would be fun but i get the vibe that it takes a while for him to open up around new people, do you know what i mean???? i totally overanalyzed this question lmao i’m sure i’d have a good time with either of them💖
4. what is your favorite physical feature about 9?
CHIN FRECKLE
5. What is your favorite part of 6’s personality?
i first thought mina was super quiet and shy but i love when she just blossoms around people she loves (and becomes the weirdo she really is).
6. If you were to tell 8 anything you wanted, what would you tell them?
i would tell changyoon that he is such a star, he truly shines so incredibly bright and he brings a light to everything he does. i would tell him that i appreciate how much effort he has put in to his craft and that his voice is so beautiful that every time i hear it my spirits are lifted. and that he’s funny as fuck and needs to keep being his changdol self because i love him just as he is.
7. Between 1 and 2, whose closet would you raid?
what awful choices honestly… clearly fashion isn’t something i consider when choosing a bias. i feel like both of their closets just contain lounge wear which! i love! but it wouldn’t really be much different?? i’ll go with hyojin for no other reason than i think he probably has more green things.
8. What is a style that you want to see 3 try?
a.c.e has done sooo much. like. futuristic techno to historically accurate gays. i just want to see what his styling would have been in the take me higher era bc that was such a golden era for a.c.e styling and he MISSED it!
9. Between 5 and 4, who are you closer to in height?
Lua!!! we’re the same height:’)
10. Between 10 and 9, whose music do you like the best?
Gotta go with Omega X on this one. I’ve never been super into SF9’s music unless it’s like one or two specific songs and those stick with me! I want to like it, but something about it has trouble clicking with me🤷‍♀️
i’ll tag @moviestarmijoo // @minkyunmonet // @twoset // @mkscatgirl (only if you want to though!)

happy new year abby!!!!!!! congrats on meeting your reading goal, i’m glad that despite your busy life you’re still able to enjoy reading for yourself <3 some bookish questions, if you don’t mind …
what was your favourite reread of 2023? what book did you mean to read but ended up not? what books were you looking forward to but disappointed by? what book took you by surprise? your favourite series? your favourite standalone? your least favourite book(s)? what book did you write your favourite review about? and finally, what book(s) are you most looking forward to reading in 2024?
may this year be full of blessings to you!
hiiiiii love, happy new year!!!! i'm finally back on my laptop so i'm sorry this is a few days late <333
favourite reread: i did a lot of rereading this year and i loved them all but probably six of crows!! every time i reread that series i'm a little nervous that its not going to have the same magic it did the last time and it always does and this time was no exception its just going to be a forever favourite and i'm so glad i reread it
a book i meant to read and didn't get to: there were a few i meant to at the very least start over my break that i didn't get a chance to (this biography i picked up at a school social and the hundred years war on palestine by rashid khalidi), books i had on hold at the library but it was just never the right time (as long as the lemon trees grow by zoulfa katouh), and my book lovers reread that i was all set to start and then i didn't read for like 3 weeks
a book i was looking forward to that disappointed me: greywaren by maggie stiefvater was soooo messy plotwise and there were things i wanted wrapped up that were just not addressed in a satisfying way yes i gave it 5 stars the epilogue made me cry those 5 stars are for declan lynch and for how much i love the trc/tdt universe as a whole pls take my rating system a little bit seriously (so i guess it wasn't 100% disappointing i just wanted more from the final book) (honourary mentions to nine liars by maureen johnson bc it was sososo fun for 99% of the book but the very end was so unnecessary i'll never forgive her, and harlem shuffle by colson whitehead i liked the writing i just thought the plot would be different from what it ended up being)
a book that took me by surprise: the day of the jackal was supposed to be something i picked up for a few hours for shits and giggles since i've never had any real interest in 70's spy thrillers but i actually enjoyed it enough to finish! also these violent delights by micah nemerever surprised me because i did not know what to expect at. all. and i still dont know how to describe the feelings that book gave me but i certainly didn't expect them
my favourite series: beartown!!!!!! you know exactly why i don't even have to explain </3 (honourary mention to sandra gullands josephine b trilogy its one hell of a historical fiction series and i enjoyed it SO much)
my favourite standalone: rebecca by daphne du maurier!! its just the most beautifully written book that captivated me from the very first page <33
least favourite books: the last word by taylor adams (extraordinarily mid upon first read and it just seems so bleh looking back), ready player one by ernest cline (i can see why my boyfriend loves it but it just didn't appeal to me at all), 20,000 leagues under the sea by jules verne (jules verne knows sooooo many facts about the ocean and electricity and he put every single one of them in this book in very long paragraphs but i forgive my prof for making me read it)
my favourite review: i didn't really write any solid reviews this year (something i'm hoping to do more of in 2024) but my favourite mini reviews are the ones i left for wuthering heights and 20,000 leagues under the sea bc i think i'm funny and bc i think they sum up my reading experience quite well
books i'm most looking forward to reading in 2024: soooo many a curse for true love by stephanie garber, a man called ove by fredrik backman, alone with you in the ether by olivie blake, divine rivals by rebecca ross (!!), penance by eliza clark to name a few

POST 24
2.3 Critique The student reflectively critiques a design of which they are the author in comparison to another from a different author.
For this indicator I'd like to compare our work for project M, called Reframe to another VR experience called Traveling While Black (later: TWB).
Reframe is a poly narrative VR experience concerning the Dutch colonization of Brazil (1630-1654). The experience is divided into two chapters that show different points of view starting with a painting showcasing Brazilian landscapes. In the first part of the experience observations and opinions on the painting are showcased through the voices of Brazilians. The second part of the experience brings awareness of biases and racism nowadays, with a focus on their implications in AI . This is done through AI, because AI image generation is trained by millions of visual examples from our society and shows how we have been depicting certain stereotypes. In this part our respondents use their voices more emphatically, highlighting how colonialism has affected and still affects their lives.
"Traveling While Black is a cinematic VR experience that immerses the viewer in the long history of restriction of movement for black Americans and the creation of safe spaces in our communities. Confronting the way we understand and talk about race in America, Traveling While Black highlights the urgent need to not only remember the past but to learn from it, and facilitate a dialogue about the challenges minority travelers still face today."
Both of the experiences are using VR as a medium, but with Reframe we created a 3D built virtual space with Rhino and Unity, in TWB they recorded the scenes with 360 degree camera in existing environments for example a bus or a diner. Both experiences are processing a historical period of time and want to teach the user about the effect of these historical events. In reframe we are using the voices of Brazilian people who are telling their stories and their experiences, but we can only heat their voices while we are in a museum setting watching paintings, so the visuals and the audio are not strictly connected. In TWB what you see is similar to a film, but you are a part of it. You can look around, you can see what is behind you, next to you, the visuals and the audio are connected, because what you see and hear are the actors playing their part and you are a listener of the conversations in the experience. You can get to know true stories of black people and how they experienced racism and racial segregation. Reframe is more interactive, because the user has to start the audio recordings and also they can switch between them, they can walk around in the room. In TWB sitting in with the actors made me feel part of the story and the atmosphere was created very well by recording in roadside, in a diner and projections of additional media on the walls in the scene. This experience lacked interactivity because it was a cinematic experience. Regarding the quality it is funny to compare, because our project was done in 8 weeks and we are 4 students, who have never built such thing before and the author of TWB, is called Felix & Paul Studios and it is an EMMY Award-winning creator of immersive entertainment experiences, with a team of full of experts. But I'd say Reframe is a very nice concept and I am proud of it. It needs iterations for example with more time I'd build an even nicer interior, with more realistic walls and floors, and lightning. And we could also make sure that the height of the eye is connected to the user. The playlist of the audio could be more sophisticated and we could also work more on the volume and considering that the physical environment is not totally silent. When somebody tried our VR we always told them about the time of the experience and what they can expect inside the VR. In TWB I didn't know beforehand how long is the experience and I think it would be useful, but otherwise the quality of the experience was amazing and the storyline was very engaging and immersive.

Dark Humor
I never liked this kind of humor. It's disrespectful to the dead, insensitive to people who suffered and utterly offensive to most religious groups. It is kind of crazy that my view of dark humor just drastically changed when I started high school. That's when my frequent exposure to social media also started. I often see memes. Not just memes with a picture and a joke written with large fonts, but the one that includes a bit of reality. Dark history of wars, fascism, imperialism, racism, genocide and tragedies that have shaken particular countries in the past. At first, these kinds of jokes were infuriating for me but I realised, I'm on the internet. Almost anything can be possible here for anyone. I got used to seeing these kinds of jokes but also everytime I laugh I curse myself, "What the hell is wrong with me?!", "Why am I like this?!", "Will I still laugh if those things happened to me?". I tried practising self-control, holding back my laughter whenever I see a video of a person falling from a height edited with banger music in the background. It's hard. Like really hard. I feel like I'm a really bad person because of laughing uncontrollably from a person's misfortune though, I really am, in that sense. Years passed, and most kinds of dark humor don't bother me anymore. Like, I would laugh my ass off hysterically whenever I hear remixed prayers with a really cool beat and a dancing Jesus, I don't care. Most of these religious people were a bunch of hypocrites anyway. From my observation, the most used kinds of dark humor were death, historical wars, blasphemy and racism, which is what I hate. I'm well aware of black people's history and how much suffering they endured so I know how it must feel to be mocked and referred to by that word any non-black people were not supposed to say. I wouldn't also want someone racially discriminating against us like if I do practise this kind of humor. So yeah, even dark humor has limits for me. Aside from the previous four that were mentioned, homophobia is also the theme of many dark jokes circulating on the internet, which I also loathe. Like, bro you think you're a sigma male giga chad for shitting on how people want to live their lives? No. Well, most of these chad wannabes belong to the religious bunch so it's not really a surprise. And there goes blasphemy, for me this will always be the most funny to me. One might say, "Respect others' beliefs so they respect yours too". Hell no. They couldn't even respect anyone that has a different belief in them. They would try to shove their belief to anyone's face and insist that this is the real god, you should give up your life and worship him when there are actually many gods different people of different cultures worship and they couldn't even prove the existence of theirs. That's why I find it really funny when someone jokes about their religion. They deserve it. So yeah, if I would rank these five most used dark humor I always see on the internet, blasphemy will be the first. It's so funny and I've always hated self-righteous hypocrites. Death will be the second, we're all gonna die anyway so let's just laugh about it. Wars? I don't know. They are sometimes funny but it's just wrong, totally wrong so I hate myself about it. Racism? I'd avoid joking about it as much as I possibly can, because whenever I try to do so to join my friends' fun, guilt instantly strikes me. Homophobia? Nope. Let people live their lives. As I said, dark humor also has its limits, at least for me.

People have historically given Link a harder time in the comments sections, uncharitably speculating about his sexuality or calling him girlish in a time when his thinking was less nuanced and being compared to Velma Dinkley was a flat out insult (Nowadays I think 'looks-up-lesbian-fashion Link' might be more inclined to take this as a compliment).
Doesn't help that Rhett was also always ready to quirk his brow at Link's 'quare'ness, to give him the stern 'boundaries, bro' etc. most likely cause of his own insecurities making Link a convenient lightning rod for that judgement. Partly because of his (endearing and probably very flustering to Rhett) moments of non self consciousness, and also because they both grew around each other and use each other as points of reference (you're my whole world bro). They're Rhett and Link, the ______one and the _____ one.
So Link experiences himself as the Boy to Rhett's Business Man, leans into it for laughs, reads his storybook lines in a high pitched voice, all to be 'in' on the joke, before he can be the butt of it. Rhett 'gets to' be Dr. McLaughlin and maybe this perception of their dynamic makes it easier for him to digest the concept. Maybe he gets comfortable with the idea sooner even though it involves playing their comedic version of playing 'house' in a way where he's perpetually relegated to Big Spoon without much room for exploration (except when Rule of Funny calls for it because haha height difference).
We know from the time they dressed as each other Link is definitely affected by this 'I'm gonna act like you're weird' thing even though Rhett has drastically changed in terms of his attitude towards masculinity and proximity, is more able to articulate and ask for affection, albeit clumsily, due to therapy, etc. Link fundamentally is troubled by changes in dynamic and the 'rules' they have set up between them, especially spontaneous or unpredictable situations that could lead to him feeling like the butt of a joke. He frequently alludes to not wanting to feel like a loser, a lesser partner or in any way diminished in their duo.
Vulnerability in these scenarios has historically led to Link getting laughed at on the Internet for having a face journey after the Newsicals kiss, and although not all of those reactions were bad intentioned, when you struggle with anxiety it can feel like you're being made fun of, and traitorous thoughts surface of "My not usually touchy friend who I'm comfortable with and knows all my boundaries is touching me a LOT and he looks VERY comfortable am I getting anti-Cap bait and switched here? If I lean into this will he guffaw and will the rug be pulled out from under me?" And maybe "My friend who I like but people say I more than like and who I maybe sorta do more than like is really comfy, how do I play this? Too comfortable and I run the risk of another incriminating face journey, too uncomfortable and I fail at this challenge and I'm Professional Loser Link"
Rhett is bad with words and cannot seem to communicate enough how ready he is for Link to forget about all that and move the 3 extra inches so he can nuzzle him in his arms and make up for lost time. As buds, of course.
“Am I getting anti-Cap bait and switched here? If I lean into this will he guffaw and will the rug be pulled out from under me?”
That’s a wonderful point, anon. This whole thing was one big perfect point. And as an outsider looking in on their relationship, it seems to me like a pretty solid analysis of Link’s thought process. I mean, I’d be nervous to cuddle too if I were in his shoes. What’s a prank by the writers to make Link look silly and what’s Rhett genuinely wanting to physically connect?
Is it even safe to physically connect in such a public space? What will people think if they both look comfortable in each other’s arms? What will they themselves think if they find that sort physical closeness and connection comes easily?
