"As soon as the moonlight leaves the lake, you'll turn back into a swan, no matter where you are."
"Stone by day, warriors by night. We were betrayed by the humans we had sworn to protect. Frozen in stone by a magic spell for a thousand years."
By day one way, by night another, for both, this shall be the norm.

I saw the The Swan Lake ballet adaptation that hails straight from the ballet institution of Russia and it made me think how Disney would have made their own retelling since it was in development at one point. It's a shame they never did it, and if they are reconsidering it now, you best believe I won't be putting much faith in it given their recent track record. They wouldn't allow to retain any of its beautiful, classic elements at all.

Summary: Odette Lake had led a normal life up until her twenty fifth birthday-the day she learned that she had been sold to the New York mafia king, Von Rothbart who has been obsessed with her since she was a teenager. To settle his debts and to provide his daughter with what he thought would be a life of luxury, Odette's father had agreed to a marriage proposal - only for it to turn into a nightmare. Ridden with guilt, Billy Lake helped his daughter escape the city before her wedding day. Now, as Delilah Mason, she finds herself in a small town off the coast of Maine. Storybrooke seemed like the ideal place to disappear to: small and quaint, practically unheard of. Little did she know, this small town was just as tied to the mob scene as New York.

READ FROM THE BEGINNING
PREVIEW: Chapter 17
“Is there a reason why you’re taking me to the store yourself?” Odette asked Jefferson as they drove into town.
He was quiet since the meeting with Killian and his brothers — tense. Odette could see it in the way he was gripping the steering wheel. Had she done or said something wrong?
She bit her lip, wanting to ask Jefferson why he didn’t trust Killian’s brothers. If he did trust them, she wouldn’t be going by Delilah around them.
“I haven’t taken you anywhere in a while. It’s about time, isn’t it?” he asked her with a side-glance. It wasn’t exactly an answer to her question, and he knew it.
Odette raised her brow at him, knowing he was trying to keep something from her. It was true — they hadn’t gone anywhere together since before the wedding. But she knew his reasoning for bringing her to the grocery store himself wasn’t because of that.
He was taking the long way to the grocery too, biding his time as his scattered thoughts refused to be arranged in any semblance of order that could be voiced right away. There was so much...
Killian’s brother’s words were the loudest on his mind at the moment. Why didn’t Killian overthrow Jefferson? That was the question, wasn’t it? Why wasn’t someone else in charge? Why not Killian?
And then there was the matter of the puzzle pieces that had finally fallen into place.
Jefferson sighed as he set his head back on the headrest, his eyes glued to the road ahead, but his thoughts were still on a multitude of impossible things.
“This morning was fun,” he said, trying to open with a lighter topic than his dark thoughts were pushing for. “I miss you, you know…”
He glanced at Odette again.
Her cheeks flushed pink as she fought against a smile. It had been spontaneous — fun. She enjoyed pleasing Jefferson. But there was still tension between them that would only be resolved when he opened up to her.
He missed her? God, she ached for him.
“And I know I’ve been awful lately. Sometimes…” His voice trailed off for a moment. “It wouldn’t be such a bad thing if Killian took over, would it?”
Odette looked over at Jefferson, stunned by his words. Did he — did he want to give up his power? She knew that he had never wanted it; that it was inherited to him after kicking out Gold. Things had been easier before Odette came to town — his biggest concern had been Miner’s Day — and now? A war raged between Wonderland and Queens. Should it really be surprising to her that he might want to step away from all of the violence? For their family’s sake?

On Ballet and Love
Sound or silence, day or night, agape or eros. Clearly, they are opposites, hard to simply pick one though, right? The last set is Greek. They had seven words for love, agape and eros, often being taken as two extremes of the spectrum. Eros, the most famous and often mistaken for love as a whole, is only a representation of sexual love. While agape refers to unconditional love.
Ever since humanity started to settle, we have been drawn to nature, and we try to keep things we are drawn to, in the form of art. As said before, at first art imitates life, then life imitates art. As expected, the arts often return to the theme of romance. It is demonstrated particularly well in the swan lake. At first sight it is a simple ballet, with a girl who falls in love with the prince but is turned into a swan by the antagonist sorcerer. His daughter may go to the ball. It is a tale of the white swan and black swan. And if you look further, you'll see that they each play a different kind of love.
The white swan, Odette, the protagonist, represents agape and the black swan, odile, the antagonist, represents eros. Though it isn't explicitly mentioned, it is evident from their movements. Odette is so pure, almost transparent, her steps are sad but hopeful. Odile, on the other hand, is sharp and edgy, she takes the role of the cunning trickster. She tries to get the prince's attention by any means necessary, but Odette, innocent, sweet Odette, tries to protect the prince from deception and forgives him after he believed Odile. She wanted him happy no matter how much it hurt her, or in this case killed her.
With such a strong contrast in their characters the similarities are easily overlooked. They are still just two girls in love, they were similar enough for Odile to pass as Odette and the only difference was the way they loved. To emphasize this, both are customarily played by the same dancer. It is beautiful that single ballet gives us so much room for interpretation.
Odile may be the antagonist but is eros wrong? Is it so wrong to try to get what you want? It sure seems so when the place beside Odette's agape, the highest form of love. Because we look at it and say, "oh she is willing to give herself up for him, isn't that lovely?" Is it really? Odile's love is strong in its own way, it just takes the role of a villain against the delicate selfless love that is Odette.
What if this were to be seen as a mirror of society? Innocent, helpless Odette died, and Odile who did everything she could for what she wanted, she was cast aside and criticized after just a glimpse. People tell you it's bad if you don't go get what you want, but scorn when you do. This is the world we live in narrated by a ballet from the 1720s. So how do we fix this? The answer to this is balance. The world as it is today operating on extremes, either too much or too little, we can't survive on that. It is in desperate need of balance.
Silence and sound, day and night, agape and eros. One alone is not enough; we need both together.

(Brooklyn is very protective of his swan princess mate.)
Okay, Brooklyn first met Odette when he was transported to her timeline during his TimeDancer adventures brought on by the Phoenix Gate.
He befriended her one night at Rothbart's castle lair at Swan Lake, and she told him about her curse and that as soon as the moonlight leaves the lake, she'll turn into a swan, no matter where she is, unless she agrees to marry the evil sorcerer Rothbart.
She also confided to him that every night, Rothbart visits her and begs her to marry him, and she always refuses. Brooklyn offered to take her away and ensure her safety throughout the night until dawn because he turns stone during the day.
Brooklyn also told her that once he found a way back to his timeline in Manhattan in early 1997, he'd help her break her curse.
Odette agreed to go with him and promised to watch over him while he slept in his stone slumber throughout the day until dusk because she transforms into a swan during the day.
Woo! So that is the premise of my ship that I made years ago in my childhood, and I don't know if you guys can tell, but I'm a huge Gargoyles nerd and I love the Swan Princess movie! I actually only like the first three Swan Princess movies that came out in the 1990s. Any other movies with poopy 3D animation that came out after that are dead to me.
Fun fact: both Gargoyles and The Swan Princess came out in the autumn months of 1994, 25 days apart!
SHIP NAME: Brodette. lol
