Back in February I went to a psychic fair and asked for a 365 day reading. This is done with a lot of tarot cards and they are pulled to represent the months and quarters of the year. I had the Tower card show up for the quarter involving April/May/June. My reader and I could not figure out what that meant, so she guessed that it had to do with my spiritual path. . Well, my spiritual path is still ongoing. What actually happened was that on June 24, 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe V Wade, thus ending a landmark decision on the right to privacy in a lot of things that women choose for themselves, and is setting a precedent that all my independent rights as a woman in America is in jeopardy. . I see this card as many things. A foundational structure being torn down in a violent manner. Something that someone has built for themselves with their ego is being taken down. Cyclic ending and rebirth. Disruption. Change. Catastrophe. That reader I went to wasn't pulling cards for me. ✈️NEGOTIATING THE TRANSITION✈️ Many, if not all of us, are experiencing some level of Tower Moment right now. In some cases this dramatic turn of events is happening suddenly, shockingly and may feel very stressful indeed. In other cases this may be a longer drawn-out process coming to a head. For others this may be a voluntary dismantling of the established structure of your life as it stands, in order to build something new, and more supportive to your chosen expression of life, work and love. I find myself (and indeed have negotiated myself into) the latter. As you can see from the second slide, the physical environment around me is in a state of change, and at times this can be untidy. Things must come up in order to be released. Truths must be acknowledged in order for new energy to flow in. Faith in our path and our purpose is paramount. Rather than being alarmed by the disorder that may be around you, focus on what you desire. If you feel that circumstances are stripping you of your desires, consider that this disruption, this collapse of events may in fact be shifting you, by hook or by crook towards the future you really want to experience. #inktober2021 Day 16: The Tower . . I had fun with this one but it is the one I took the longest to deliberate because it’s such a crucial card - in the tarot and in context of my broader narrative themes. It includes some historical references to Chernobyl as well as some biblical ones (Revelation 8:11, Tower of Babel inspired) and the classic cryptid supposedly spotted following the disaster. Some call it the blackbird of Chernobyl, others attribute it to the Mothman who only seems to show up when bad shit is going down. Anyways I could resist throwing it all in - I drifted more from the Rider Tarot with this image than perhaps any other card, but I feel it’s pretty spot on. . . “And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.” . . “The Tower is commonly interpreted as meaning danger, crisis, destruction, and liberation. When the Tower enters our lives, we don't realize it until that moment of transcendence when we look around and see the rubble surrounding us. The energy of the Tower is a tornado where we are in the eye; it's grasping, pulling apart, howling, destroying, in a chaos that we sense but don't always see. Then the wind stops and we see the destruction, almost from above, clearly and brightly. The emotions rise up to fill the void: fear, agony, depression, confusion. Sometimes the pain is so blinding it's easier to step back into the eye rather than face the ruins. But there is in that moment when we have transcended an opportunity. A choice is present in how we can rebuild the Tower. Will we make it stronger, choosing fortification against pain and hardship? Will we make it open and airy, inviting light and love and connection? In nightmares where we're falling from high places, there is a moment where it seems it's inevitable to smash into the ground below and, even within the heart of terror, there is the calm eye. If you draw the tower, I hope you have that peace and transcendence to choose who you will become.
