What are some of your fave niche motifs or themes in storytelling

good q! off the top of my head:

forgiveness. i think about it a lot. the years pass. are you able to forgive? and what does the forgiveness look like? what was the sin that broke the fragile bond between you? there are people in my past who, if you asked me last year, i wouldn't have been able to forgive. today i'd say "i forgive you, but there is nothing here anymore".

corruption. of the soul, of the economy, of the system, of the love, of the humanity inside of you, of the purpose that drives you. i love a narrative that pays attention to the downward spiral, and what it means to deal in true shades of grey.

good vs good. two morally defensible positions clashing. i think this is hard to depict in a contemporary setting, hell, maybe even for a contemporary audience since we have grown a necessity to cast everything in good vs bad, but it's something i find immensely mesmerizing to read.

history is written by the victors. this is growing, but i'd love to see more of it in genre fiction and fanfiction. who shaped the narrative?

the heroes 10+ years down the line. there was a book that tried this but it didn't work for me, but the concept of them being traumatized by what they had to do, perhaps having complex nightmare-dreams about the enemy and even a budding understanding of them, unhappy with having been turned into a symbol to be paraded about... live long enough to become the villain tying into this, too.

disability vs society. interrogating the systems and interrogating the narratives of "i turn my disability into a superpower! it is an asset!". sometimes, the shit just sucks. sometimes, you realize the overbearing burden capitalism enforces upon you and your ability to feel useful and meaningful.

loneliness. and how maybe loneliness isn't fixed just because you started dating someone wonderful. perhaps a better word is alienation as well?

stormy relationships that aren't inherently toxic. ok, this one is perhaps harder to explain... anyway, you don't need to work on yourself before being in a relationship. you can get into a relationship when you are a mess and work towards something better. you can have stormy nasty fights and work to get past them. you can backtrack on progress and still be loveable. that kind of stormy. circumstances suck. we all carry wounds. admitting flaws and faults and perhaps they aren't fixed immediately, but you figure out ways to deal.

being a fucking loser in your 30s. lmao ik ik but it's like. we are both so obsessed with achieving and becoming and growing that seeing people who are losers and what it means and cost them... it's intriguing.

plants and flowers as body horror. my absolute ultimate niche. flowers growing under your skin, root systems sprawling into your flesh, pollen coating your tongue...

BNHA S2 EP24 - Katsuki Bakugou: Origin

Or final exam battle: Deku/Kacchan vs. All Might.

*takes a deep breath* I have SO many fucking emotions when it comes to this episode. Honestly, I'm trying hard not to cry like the emo bitch I am right now lol Fuck... Okay. 😑 This post is going to be fucking long and all over the place and I apologize in advance.

Let me actually begin with the ending of ep23 where we have both Deku & Kacchan's voicing the preview and that fucker talks over Deku and shit, yelling "PLUS ULTRAAAA" and you hear Deku little "Traaa?" at the end, hkdmqmmsd that's so fucking funny.

Now for the real shit. Man rewatching that fight after being caught up on both s6 and the scans? Yeah, my heart can't take that stuff...😫

All Might is our top bkdk shipper, man. Apart from Aizawa, he's probably the only other adult really seeing what the relationship between Izuku and Katsuki can truly become (gotta love Aizawa for being so observant and forcing them to team up btw). That fight against AM is truly the first big step in mending their broken relationship, eh.

(my mind's a fucking whirlwind and I'm trying hard to be coherent, bear with me)

I'm thinking of something as stupid as this but... look at the distance between them here - and compare it to how it's going to be after s6 and Kats' apology? That dude has grown so fucking much and it shows even in his placement next to Izuku lmao *damn*

We start that ep with Kats' POV and all his anger and frustration towards Deku making progress right? He's set on winning that shit on his own, refusing to cooperate and telling Deku to not follow him (yeah my dude we know you'd die if the nerd didn't follow you anymore). All in all, it's a freaking bad start when facing All Might, we even have that scene where he's yelling at Deku and Deku is yelling back "STOP YELLING! It's because you do that we can never have a normal conversation!" and boy... 😫

Since we all know Katsuki's an overthinker (how he's been bottling shit up after 'ending All Might's career?) and that he is obsessed with the nerd, he's probably been thinking about this too, "If I start yelling we won't be able to talk" so he actually starts the convo softly during Deku vs Kacchan part2, like hello?!

Ahem. Anyways, what's also interesting is that moment where they knock each other out because they aren't working together at all. Katsuki is only thinking of charging to AM to defeat him and win while Izuku is literally too intimidated by his idol and wants to run away. They don't even think about each other and what the other is planning to do, hence the clashing. It's so great to actually see this because it brings out their cooperation (later in the episode but also in the whole series) and how they're really a fucking 'wonder duo' when they do work together. Once the relationship is on the way to being mended and they start seeing each other as rivals (see movie 2 Heroes Rising for instance), we actually see how much they're in synch, they don't even have to fucking talk to one another to understand what the other is thinking or planning next and it's just so fucking amazing man... Like really, that connection they have on the battlefield is ridiculous.🧡💚

Moving on to when Deku is stuck under a fence cuz AM is an asshole djdmmds he literally just fucking broke Kats' ribs or something, the dude is puking, like what the hell...

Anyways we got Deku's flashbacks of their childhood and him fawning over Kacchan. "I always admired you for that [winning]" - and I don't know, but have you guys noticed how Izuku's memories are always about Kacchan and his admiration for him, like he'd be following him around spying on him, just watching him with stars in his eyes the whole fucking time - THIS is what's in Izuku's mind everytime he thinks of their childhood and at the opposite end what do we have? Katsuki hung on the damn river scene OVER AND OVER AGAIN. The contrasts is crazy and it holds so much meaning aaaah 😖🧡💚 I love Hori so much for this, man.

We move to Izuku punching Kacchan in the face to save his ass and run away in an alley, literally hopping like a bunny (pyon pyon) and they have a sorta normal convo (yeah Kats is still yelling and exploding a wall but eh I call that progress). Then they face AM again and tadaaaaa we have another scene of Katsuki's crying face and WHY? Because he's fucking frustrated! When I tell you guys that dude only cries like this when he's frustrated and only in front of Deku and AM (for the record, that's up till he's accepting all of his feelings for Izu and Izu's love for him in the latest scans... *cries thinking of it*)

I think that's also when he's slowly but surely starting to accept that yeah he's eventually going to have to cooperate with Deku, not just for this fight but in the future too. Right now it's still too raw, his inferiority complex is still too present and yeah... but we'll get there, won't we? 🧡

Anyways, Katsuki Bakugou's Physical strength appreciation moment because... Fuck, even Izuku is astonished by the weight and strength of that dude's gauntlet and Kacchan is moving around and blasting that shit like it's a piece of cake, like what?!?! 😲🔥 Hot.

Also this episode is literally the introduction of "Win to Save" vs "Save to Win" in a way, because it focuses on Katsuki's 'Origin'. Like I said, that episode is so fucking important for Deku vs Kacchan pt2 *sigh*

EVERYONE wants to get them on their show/at their event together for the press of it all. and they know it's there. so they have fun with it. they really wanna act on it but their agents love the will-they-won't-they dynamic too much so refuse to let them

cheerscoops vacation au - both chrissy and steve are in separate groups on the same cruise (one bit that's up for choice is idk whether to make them strangers or if they're all from hawkins). steve has organised the trip for eddie + the corroded coffin boys (another choice - does eddie know of/want jonathan there too? if he does, argyle would also tag along). chrissy is on the trip w her cheer girls and jason, who she conviinced the squad to let come on holiday w them. however, as soon as the cruise liner sets sail, jason tells chrissy he wants to "find himself" before college, and dumps her. she + her girls end up gravitating towards steve + his boys

photocheer - jonathan x chrissy, in case that wasn't obvious, lol. no upside down au, meaning nancy + steve never broke up and jonathan never had to be confronted about his photography so he's still a major outcast. he gets paired up with chrissy for the year in a school subject - which reminds him of the only time he ever enjoyed a party, when he'd bumped into her at tina's halloween party their junior year and she'd insisted she'd change him from being "a guy who hates parties". he still pines after nancy, and chrissy tries to help, but he gets real defensive, and so does she, which he finds strange, usually people just leave him alone. a bit of grumpy x sunshine, a bunch of angst. the choice bit is idk whether they have a tender heart to heart at the peak of the angst or if they explode into a moment of fiery passion lmao

edancy dm vs dm - it's not that max doesn't want to play dnd when lucas asks her to join hellfire, she just doesn't want to be the only girl, especially being one of the youngest members. she airs her grievances out to nancy, who tells her that she used to dm for mike n the boys once upon a time, if enough girls want to join, she'd happily write a campaign for them. cue erica, robin, vickie (maybe barb + chrissy too? maybe another everybody lives au?) all joining this campaign. word gets around to eddie, who's a little upset that the girls didn't feel comfortable around hellfire, but also very, very intrigued about how total priss, nancy wheeler leads a campaign. they eventually conglomerate into one big oneshot in which both eddie and nancy control the narrative, trying to outdo each other so that their respective party comes out victorious

camp hawk - a big ol' project i'm working on that's going to take forever anyway lol. summer camp au, you know the drill

stargyle coworkers, stongyle relationship - we all know it, we all love it, the idea that stobin have to survive to work Every Single Job together. however, in this case, robin has to leave steve alone for a bit. her hippie ass parents have gone and accidentally joined a cult and she has to get them out of it. the temp agency they work for has steve listed as Not To Work Alone and so they assign him their newest recruit from california. argyle moved to hawkins bc his (boyfriend/roommate-crush, idk if they're established or just pining atp) jonathan wanted to move home. argyle tells jonathan all about his new coworker and how great this guy is and jonathan's horrified to see that it's his own queer awakening, steve harrington. he was hoping there'd be some avoiding him

My Completely Unofficial and Uncategorized Real Time Reactions and Thoughts about the Comprehensive Disco Elysium Investigation by People Make Games: (Thinking about this for most of the night led to a fight with someone I'm dating and I think that's very on brand with DE)

In their opening preamble they stated that they interviewed 16 employees both former and current who worked closely with him who claim that Kurvitz was just a cunt actually (A significant amount of people since the original team was around 30 and the current one is only a hundred or so) They spend a lot of time at the start talking about how this isn’t as black and white as it seems.

Apparently no one working on Disco Elysium had uhhh, worked on a game really before that, and this was all Kender's idea

There's a lot of accounting shenanigans for Ilmar Kompus and his business partner whose name I have already forgotten to just straight up hide their real income from the Estonian government solely to avoid paying any of the 11 million they collectively owe in fines paid out to investors of the Baku scam/scandal.

Said business partner's stake in Zaum UK was owned under a shell company named after a five team sailing boat he sails with an ex lover who owns said shell company

Also Ilmar Kompus obtained the majority share of ZAUM Studio (the Estonian parent company that does not own the IP, the IP is in ZAUM UK) by buying Margus Linnamae's shares directly either supposedly without telling the others or after telling the others

LMAO KENDER CLAIMED IN A LAWSUIT THAT HE FINANCED IT NOT ONLY BY TAKING OUT A LOAN UNDER THE NAME OF A BRITISH BASED ZAUM CHILD COMPANY, BUT BY BUYING THE IP RIGHTS FOR A GAME FROM ZAUM FOR 1 POUND AND SELLING IT BACK FOR 4.8 MILLION EUROS

Why

The more I learn about the Disco Elysium case the more this sounds like a classic faustian bargain thing or Dickensian novel, the absolute worst people you have ever known got together to make a game no matter the consequences and no matter their initial lack of skills and connections

I'm currently watching the interviews but won't comment on them until I watch all of them

Ilmar at least seems capable of remaining calm and maintaining the same story even if his deflections and replies aren't always the most convincing

But the key takeaways is that he claims that the shareholder agreement in Newelysium, the company set up for the sequel's development and IP which mainly benefits Kurvits, and the others (20% vs his 5%) was essentially used as a carrot to dangle in front of them to agree to his use of company funds to buy out those shares for himself, and that he claims that them trying to single out Tomi Haavel's sus financial arrangements as an example of his duplicity is wrong because they had agreed to those terms and hashed it out with Tomi before he hopped on as a fellow shareholder in the UK branch that owns the IP

Also his justification for their firing was that by the time of the final cut literally none of them were working properly, with Kurvitz supposedly providing no new writing and the credited lead writer for the Final Cut mostly underperforming and another writer, Justin Keenan needing to do the majority of her work

Above and beyond what said other employees took as time away from work to resolve their own burnouts from the grueling development cycle of DE

He mostly defers on the allegations of toxicity, gender discrimination, etc because he's not in a position to legally say anything and wasn't personally there for it to begin with, but he does say that the alleged IP theft attempt was the straw that broke the camel's back. We're not cycling into the interviews with ZA/UM employees both past and present, with one agreeing to come forward on the record with their name on it to represent the viewpoint of the employee and not just the executive guy who'd benefit from Kurvitz eating shit

Huh, apparently Kaur's father was the prototype for Harrier, especially the throwing up thing, that was something that happened to his father

The writer also did Evart, Harrier's boss, the tribunal scene and the hardy boys among other things. He personally feels slighted by Robert because Robert claimed that he wrote half of the million words in DE and while he's not surprised that he lied about that (he's said it before to his face), he does personally think it's innaccurate especially with 3 other non Robert and him writers credited

He describes his relationiship and friendship with Robert the way an ex cult member would describe their former leader

Robert (Kurvitz) apparently had this magnetic charisma that made people look to him for leadership, which was a mistake because he had absolutely no leadership skills or a proper understanding of what being a leader meant 

He said that when he first met Robert, he was a young man and Robert to him was almost like a God in terms of how cool he was and how inspiring he seemed. It wasn't until he married his then wife that the weirdness of their relationship was pointed out, and he fell out of that, and tried to form a more normal friendship over the course of development only to realize that he was beginning to fall back into that over time

He was generally short and inconsiderate with other people's feelings, communication wasn't his strong side

Generally stuff like the programmers trying to show him something they were working on and him saying no that's garbage I can't work while looking at this it's demoralizing me, and they come back with a finished copy and he just says its bullshit and they need to start over. When it comes to writing, during the first draft editing process he would often do things such as looking at about four days of work essentially, an entire hub in a dialogue tree, and go, "Nah this doesn't work, it's bullshit" and deleted it

He (Argo) personally learned to cope with it and taking criicism that way, but he's had convos with other writers before and understands that it is pretty toxic

With an average of about 1 to 2 nights spent without rest per week

He reacts to Ilmar's accusation that the three hadn't done much work by going:

For about 3 to 4 months after release everyone was basically expected not to do any work.

He feels that Rostov was probably the one most burnt out by the experience

And the most work Robert did was a tiny, or at least unacceptable amount of work for drafting up concepts for the sequel among two years and doing a kickoff meeting for the political sequels, otherwise he did not contribute to the Final Cut or did much during those two years.

Helen had a very hands off approach to leading, to the point where he personally enjoyed just kinda having no one to answer to, but little actually got done under her direct leadership even if she didn't do no work at all

Also his description of them originally working in a formerly squatted office where water leaks into the server room and the electricity would turn off and on makes me wonder if the next DE project just needs to be a The Making of the Room style mockumentary

He feels that while Robert should still be allowed to work with the world of Elysium, he also feels like the man wasn't like, the sole creator of it, he was instrumental but so are a lot of people who are being labelled as 'demonic money men' who you know

ACTUALLY KNOW HOW TO FUCKING RUN A COMPANY AND ADVERTISE AND GET A GAME DEVELOPED AND PUBLISHED, among other things

He just kinda thinks that Robert is presenting himself as the sole creator of the world and the reason why it all worked to begin with when he was in truth just, the guy who worked on the original idea and fleshed it out through tabletop games and a novel

He does hold a more favorable view on Rostov though as does many employees, who seem to think of him as being like, caught up in a problem Robert started with his departure being a real shame

Helen has apparently been in a romantic relationship with Robert for years before ZA/UM was a thing so they're putting a pin on that and continuing with the other employee interviews they can now publish as people are willing to go on record

The people are Petteri Sulonen the 'lead technologist', Kaspar Tamsalu a lead artist and original Estonian employee group member and Justin Keenan, the current lead writer who is credited as being the one mostly behind the Final Cut's writing despite Helen's credit as a lead writer 

(They fucking decided to post snippets from each in sequence instead of coherent snippets from one complete interview to the next why) Kaspar states that he is disappointed in Rostov personally as a friend of him from their teenage years, Petteri says that this was probably the most likely outcome as anything else would have required Robert to actively change how he relates to other people and their work, and Justin states that Robert always had an inner circle following him who seemed to enjoy special privileges from being close to him

And that it was dispiriting for everyone out of said circle because they could essentially get away with doing anything as much or as little as they liked while everyone else had to pick up the slack

Kaspar states that in 2021 Rostov asked him to take over as art lead while he stepped away from the studio for a month, which slowly turned into three that led to Robert suspiciously wanting to take a two month vacation with only people from his in group, which included Rostov 

He says that they (Rostov and Robert) had essentially mentally checked out during the time the studio started to really formalize and define itself after DE's release, both in terms of policies such as healthcare and just, general working environment and culture

Justin wrote the moralist and communist quest and kinda states that by the time of Final Cut the already smaller team also had to deal with the three checking out, with him basically having to work on them on his own outside of a few conversations. He accuses Helen of doing no writing as far as he's aware of, and also just, not communicating absolutely anythign a leader should communicate or really doing much leading. He cites that they didn't know what the deadlines were on the Final Cut because she didn't tell them

So the four writers working on the Final Cut ended up kinda, working by themselves while checking up on each other by themselves

Robert apparently told Kaspar straight up that his idea was to spend seven years working on the next project by himself with three other people, two writers and Rostov as the only artist which uhhhh, obviously Kaspar didn't take well since he was in the middle of moving to the UK to follow after the game's new development center after quitting his previous job to do so??? Rostov tried to wave it away by saying that Robert was just being him and having weird wording but then the vacation was announced and he kinda wondered why Robert specifically needed these people to be rested up to work on the sequel

Robert tasked Justin to assign test work to two junior writers who had been working on the Final Cut to develop what could be major quests in the sequel to see if they were worth taking on in the core team. He felt that was unfair but did it anyway, workshopped it between them and Argo, and they did really great work apparently but a year into Robert's sabbatical he said he was taking a two month holiday with his inner circle, and told Justin that he wouldn't have the time to give them his review of their work, and told him to give them the bad news that they weren't going to be on the core team even though their work was great to them

Assured him he had reviewed their work, left on vacation, and a few months later he apparently revealed in a one to one convo with one of said writers that he hadn't actually read or reviewed said work at all

Kaspar notes that said inner circle kinda, made decisions that affected other people in the company mostly based on how they felt at the time without really considering how it would affect other people along with just, kinda disappearing from time to time. And the biggest red flag was when Rostov and Robert sat down with him and Justin at fall 2021 to talk about how while they were still in talks with everyone else and that while it is still going well, they were thinking of taking him and Justin and essentially forming their own studio when they were ready which uhhh, Kaspar had just upgraded from couch surfing to signing a one year no break clause tenancy in an apartment in the UK and was going to be a father and all that and just couldn't like, hop off to follow them along like he had no other responsibilities.

Apparently literally three days before Kaspar's one way flight to the UK, Robert called them for another meeting where he triumphantly declared that he was going to approach Ilmar with a deal that Kaspar begged him not to do because it would get him fired. Justin corroborates by saying that Robert said that this project was his masterpiece and that he couldn't report to anyone on it, he essentially wanted to be the sole creative director for 'his' project, and that he had an idea he thinks could work for convincing the executive producers to let him back on.

He wanted to shelve the sequel, and ask Kaspar and Justin to essentially state that they couldn't do it now and wanted to work on some smaller project instead, and that Robert would work under their lead throughout this project solely to show to the executive producers that he was trustworthy, that for the sequel he could be trusted with regaining his rightful seat as the sole creative director.

Justin then pointed out that if this project went well, which he also didn't want to do because he came here to work on the sequel to begin with, why wouldn't they just go, "Oh hey these two did a great job as the creative leads, why don't we just get them to lead the sequel?" instead of just assigning it to Robert, and Robert literally just went, "Because you'll tell them to." 

Petteri essentially vague posts about how Robert suggested he do something for them that would have immediately gotten him fired as a start. Kompus had rather bluntly stated that Petteri was asked to share the source code for DE straight up with him on November the 2nd which Petteri himself corroborates as being true, although he does note that he only told the executives about this conversation a few months after Robert's dismissal, and that this couldn’t have been the reason why he (Robert) was fired.

I really appreciate PMG's initial preface that while it is tempting to approach this from a purely black and white, heroes and villains view, the real situation just like pretty much everything about real life is much more complex than that. Because it does seem like while people accuse them of both sidings a lot, it's just... yeah sometimes it's just like that.

Because an hour and a half in this seems to be about a group of committed bank frauding capitalists teaming up with completely no name anarchist writers, painters and tabletop RPG players of varying national notoriety to make a video game despite literally no one having experience in that field. And the fucking anarchists were the most unbearable people to work with somehow.

Ilmar is almost definitely lying about a lot of things but apparently Tomi was just... a good executive producer???? Everyone has only had nice things to say about him so far???? The literal, I was involved in a 11 million euro investment scandal ten years ago guy just did a good job??? 

He's skeezy as all hell and all of his earnings goes through at least one shell company to avoid paying estonian debts but like, He was one of the people who helped turn a literal group of no name randos with no previous credit other than a book that sold like, a thousand copies nationally and the worst possible office setup known to man into an award winning game development studio

Kaspar and Petteri closes I think to say that while they can understand why an outsider who wasn't in the office and working with them would buy into the good and evil narrative, it is also still bullshit and apparently people online send Kaspar death threats.

LMAO PMG LITERALLY JUST PULLED THE VIEWER ASIDE TO GO, "HEY IF YOU'RE A FAN OF DE THEN YOU'RE PROBABLY A LITTLE COMMUNIST SO MAYBE CONSIDER NOT SENDING THESE EMPLOYEES WHO JUST SPOKE UP ABOUT THIS DEATH THREATS"

Anyway I think it's kind of interesting that Ilmar was completely confident with having the entirety of his video uploaded to youtube while the trio specifically asked that it not be shared because they may say something that their lawyers would find inadvisable

Robert states that the original production essentially suffered through a hellish production cycle where everyone was sorta expected to put up and try their best to fulfill completely unrealistic production times repeatedly until they finally got it done, with Helen corroborating to say that he and Rostov had essentially done crazy shit like work on this thing from waking up at 4 AM to 11 PM regularly. 

Robert states that the original contract for the company holding his IP was essentially until three games or a time limit was passed 

I need to stop to say that I can feel that there was a very strong and intentional choice by PMG to present Robert, Rostov, and Helen's take after building up as strong of a case against them as possible, they even went so far as to like, show the thumbnail and title of a youtube essay strongly endorsing their case during the preamble as an example of one of the many supporting the overall good vs evil narrative of an IP being stolen away from its creator. 

Somehow despite him being literally what most of us would think of as an underdog and being in the right in this situation, everything he says seems inherently suspect somehow, like I’ve been trained to question everything he says. I keep having to remind myself not to switch to using ‘alleges’ instead of states for example.

It's in the little things, but mostly in the way the non Rostov and Robert corroborators have had their credentials and stakes in defending him already prequestioned for me. Helen is one of the main three and also a former lover of Robert, the only other person in this segment who isn't one of the three is literally described as being a producer and Rostov's wife.

Rostov and Yuan Zhang-Taal (who is said former producer at ZA/UM and Rostov’s wife) paint a picture of him essentially, flaming out by the end of it but gracefully like he was finally happy to just kinda, accomplish it, finish their great work, and the pandemic kinda helped with that because now he could focus on resting without even being expected to leave the house to go the office for example, but the general announcement of the Final Cut, led to a growing sense of stress and nervousness to him as more and more was expected of him again (I can get that a little actually, the fear of like, being expected to go back to that extreme level of crunch can stay with you a while). Yuan states that while he did less work then when compared to the terrifying crunch that was DE’s production cycle, that crunch wasn’t something you could normalize to begin with without destroying yourself.

Robert states that the permanent transfer of the IP was presented to him by Kender as a way to deal with a problematic major shareholder who was the cause behind the deadlines and financing unlike Ilmar who was presented as having fought for them every step of the way, he also states that throughout the process he hadn’t talked to any lawyer, he had no legal representation or consultation of any kind. And thought that since he was being offered authoritarian protections that would supposedly give him creative control over his right’s work, it seemed like something he should do.

Rostov continues to say that yes he did basically just rest for about two whole years he did do that.

Helen states that she was essentially just, handed the position of lead writer along with overseeing the Voice over work for every single goddamn line in the entire fucking game, which she kinda, just had to figure out. She states that the Final Cut’s release date was unknown to her until around mid August, when it was essentially told to her in a general meeting with everyone by Kaur that writing would cease completely in two weeks, and that the game would be released in March next year.

According to Helen during a slack convo Kender admitted that he had essentially messed up as a producer and forgor to tell her about the release date, but that he was essentially fine with her just giving him a new date for when everything would probably be fine and ready to hand over to the VO department.

Yuan was apparently brought on later in DE Final Cut’s development, and found it strange that Kaur and Tomi accused Helen of just straight up lying about when the deadline was and being a lazy worker when she knows and works with Helen and knows that she’s doing her best. 

Helen tried calling Kaur and getting them to all just sit down and hash it out but Kaur just went oh no it’s fine just keep working. Tomi just straight up called her and started screaming at her for being terrible at her job and unsuited to leadership though while asking her to step down, it came off as being fired at the time, and apparently another writer in the same room could hear her being screamed at through her headphones.

With all of the prequestioning and literally everyone else who works there who's interview is shown outside of the big three shittalking them Helen comes off at best as like, being Peter principled. She did such a good job as a writer that she got promoted to a lead writer, a mostly managerial role who'll also help coordinate how lines are to be delivered by the VOs and then was just sort of dogshit at it.

She responds to the allegations by Kompus and the two other writers about the complete lack of presence as a leader and her lack of work as a writer with no new words supposedly being written by instead going on a tangent about how ZA/UM shuffled her around companies every 2 years to avoid crediting her properly and giving her proper benefits that a worker would have in the UK after being a contracted worker for two years in the same company. 

She literally just goes, "I respect these writers but anyway let me talk about how Za/Um screwed me over and are now finally acknowledging that yes I did work as a lead writer"

Robert tries to present himself and Rostov as being victims of a push from the top to demote them from the lead in future creative projects, and trying to distract them by playing them off of each other to get them to fight, but PGM immediately calls bullshit on that in the video when compared to what other employees have said  and cuts to a clip of ARgo saying that no in fact Rostov was pushed to demote himself by Robert himself who essentially gaslit the man by preying on his insecurities by trying to convince him that he was unfit to lead. Going on until Rostov approached the producers and they came up with a scheme where every creative lead would have an administrative counterpart, Kaspar with Rostov and Justin with Robert. 

The Administrative leads would not only be creative partners but also be the ones to talk to the producers and manage the day to day work of the writing and art teams apparently, basically one person had final say sort of about the creative direction, and the other basically did all of the actual lead work of actually taking care of the team (which Robert is continuously portrayed as being bad at). 

Robert seemed fine with this at first since he could essentially focus on writing, but after a month or so he realized that he basically was just a writer and only the defacto head, and he would keep complaining about it during the zoom meetings the writers would hold, while also apparently trying to get Rostov to be dissatisfied with it too despite this whole thing being his idea???

He apparently managed to convince Rostov to be dissatisfied with this and they approached the producers to tell them that they were ready to lead once more, which uhhh, none of the other writers (except possibly for Helen) really wanted on Robert’s case.

Roberts refutes Ilmar’s claim that he had talked to them beforehand about the necessity of him using company funds to buy out the major stockholder share for himself, and Helen states that she was the one who found out about the shift. Roberts asserts that he had thought Tomi’s shell company was actually Ilmar’s this whole time, and had asked him why he had effectively a 40% share in the IP company, and what they got out of all this. And he mentions a heated email exchange/thread that interestingly enough, Ilmar himself provided to PMG.

It mainly concerns Roberts and Rostov wanting to be more involved in the company both as shareholders and employees, and setting up emails about the future of the company, asking about company docs, figuring out what their roles would be in Disco Elysium 2. But around November Roberts became the only one messaging in the thread, apparently asking for basic documents that he should already have had access to? And Ilmar had just checked out of the exchange, building up to a meeting at about 9th that ended with the trio getting fired a week or so afterwards. 

Roberts had gone into shock after realizing what had happened and Helen and he had spent an entire day basically just dealing with UK mental health services to deal with it. He reiterates Kaur Kender’s claims, and throws shade on the IP Ilmar had supposedly shuffled around in the company. Also he states that despite being shareholders in Newelysium, both he and Rostov were completely unaware of its incorporation which is just wild to me, he states that Rostov had just signed onto it as director but don’t you need to like, actually get the permission of shareholders of the company you are making before giving them shares in the UK?

Robert also states that he was unaware of Anu Reiman (Tomi’s wife/partner) receiving funds from ZA/UM. And that they were approached by Ilmar with a substantial offer monetarily to resolve the case, get bought out from ZA/UM, and essentially become the Notch of DE.

They dispute that toxicity was the cause for their firing, as they state that the timelines and reasons for it have shifted over time with each new case, and that the original reason given was that they were attempting to steal the IP and sell it to other companies, which they dispute. They interestingly enough chose a set of big names in game development as the ones they were accused of approaching although according to PMG none of those companies or John Sawyer was the one any employee has mentioned, with the most common one being the BG3 developers Larian. Chris Bratt (The PMG guy covering this) notes that he’s never quite understood how this would have worked anyway or whether any of this was based in truth, and honestly same, were they just going to make Tesco Elysian or something???

Argo’s statements are mentioned to Robert, and he initially claims that he asks himself everyday if he is a good leader or if he’s doing a good enough job, but that a lot of these allegations come from people who took money from him illegally (Ilmar), but he does eventually admit that yes a lot of people other than him may have been hurt as well, especially during the arduous production process. 

Chris Bratt states that after he posed these questions, the vibes in the room felt off and he could later on tell that Robert was pretty clearly upset so he like, softballed the questions from then on. Which yes was obviously a mistake but I can sorta understand why, I guess maintaining goodish relations with them did allow him to get followup interviews with Rostov and followup emails after the other employees had come forward as willing to go on the record though.

He really softballs the year long sabbatical question goddamn. But yeah Roberts basically says that he was extremely drained from the 12 hour days he had taken up until that point and really needed the break and it was so sad that Rostov didn’t get someone who could take his place like Roberts did and Kaur Kender kept shitting on him and he and Tomi were also always dissatisfied with Helen despite the incredible job she was doing. He defends it as a necessary way to recover from his post development burnout, and that he in fact had put in normal amounts of work throughout that period. 

Rostov also points out that said two months of vacation, which Argo also joined, was necessary to get into the right mindset to prepare concepts for the next game. Roberts also pointed out that it wasn’t a privilege, just the exact amount of days allowed by British Law as mandatory vacation time each year taken out in one sitting. 

Yeah I think the employee interviews were a great idea, especially presented in the order they were. Rostov, Robert, and Helen are doing their best to like, dispel the accusations, state that they aren’t really an issue or anywhere near as bad as they seem, and that the image of Robert presented is really just a caricature of who he is to advance a message or viewpoint and like, I don’t know man, I’m pretty sure you three have been doing that with Ilmar, Kender, and Tomi as well, potentially deserved or not it feels like a weak appeal to me. And a lot of it comes off as a classic like, “I’m sorry that you felt that way” apology outside of the complete lack of like, need to defend himself Robert has noted.

At least he does state that people shouldn’t harass ZA/UM employees though, which is nice but idk it’s buried 2 hours and 14 minutes into a video that’s mostly been about questioning and prodding at his statements so far I don’t know if this will really stop anyone who believes him enough to send death threats at a complete stranger.

While Helen, Robert, and Rostov has vehemently denied that their behavior has been called into question until after their dismissal, Ilmar Kompus has provided a slack message from a few months before their dismissal that if true would prove otherwise. It's apparently five months before his firing and from Tomi, referring to Robert’s behavior in a meeting he wasn’t invited to but jumped into anyway when he took the headset from Helene. 

Interesting to note that it’s actually a screenshot they showed us near the very start of the video, the one that very politely tells Kurvits that he is being an ass but that if he is willing to change they are still willing to work with him. I didn’t know that it was sent by Tomi at the time so honestly I still maintain that as shady and possibly criminal as he is, the man seems to just… be doing his best as an executive producer, and he seems to be doing ok, which is hilarious to me personally.

Kurvits’s reaction to the allegations made in the interview to the four employees including someone who's known him since his teenage years that he was:

Consistently inconsiderate of other people's feelings in a way that could yes create a toxic work environment

Tried to convince one of them to steal DE's source code for him

Tried to convince two of them to start a whole other side project just to make him look good to allow him to be the sole lead of DE 2

Gaslit the art lead into wanting to step down after DE's release

Had an inner circle that he regularly favored who could essentially do anything they want and coudl slack off and expect other workers to make up for it

Seemed convinced that he was the most victimized and tired and beaten down by the crunch and that after all of this collaborative work that Elysium was entirely his baby.

Etc.

Was quite literally just virtue signaling, by, and I’m paraphrasing here, going, "Loe and behold the crooked capitalists and conmen are trying to drive an artificial wedge between us poor and downtrodden workers, all of this has consumed our lives and damaged us irreparably, I would relinquish my shares for free but it is my only recourse for justice and as a writer I need to believe in something and I happen to believe in communism etc"

But also I do need to note, he added, and I’m paraphrasing here, “Art isn't about ending decades long friendships with someone because you realize that they were unbearable to work with and they are no longer an idol to worship over what initially started as petty disagreements and uncomfortable behavior.” and uh, no that’s exactly what art is about, that’s literally how most bands end, shush.

Massive props to Chris Bratt of PMG for immediately noting how outrageous he personally finds the email to be. I don’t think we watch 2 and a half hour long video essays for complete objectivity anyway (if that even exists to be blunt) and yeah it is pretty scummy that he’s trying to deflect entirely 

This all feels like one of those problems that could have been resolved if there was a reasonable adult to try and get them to sit down and hash it out among each other to clear up what are mostly just, basic communication and treatable behavioral issues. Unfortunately everyone in the room was either doing bank fraud or needed therapy at best.

I guess the main takeaway from this is just. Two things can be true at the same time, both siding is bad when it's like, someone from a country saying that since another country does unrelated bad things, everyone from that country should shut up about the bad things their country is doing or has done. But this isn't whataboutism, it's literally just, "Hey actually maybe he is a cunt as well, Maybe the employees are speaking against him not because they feel the need to defend Ilmar to keep their paycheck but because Roberts was in fact just not a good team lead at best and aggravating and unbearable at worst" 

But what I really hate is that Disco Elysium and its devs are communist adjacent enough that they have easy virtues to signal to in this case. I’m not saying that Ilmar’s hands are clean, but it’s not a good look when you pander to worker’s rights and collective action every single time someone mentions personal criticism of you and your work.

Also someone with actual money pay PMG please I'm too brokeass to do it myself. I think they did a really good job on this one.

im here to talk about bitchkiller vs. bartylus and why bitchkiller is a much healthier relationship.

okay one of the main differences in bartylus compared to bitchkiller, is communication.

both barty and regulus are not vocal with how they are feeling, and dont express what makes them upset, causing them to blow up over time due to bottling all of their issues and not speaking of them.

WHERE AS BARTY AND SIRIUS ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. i do agree that sirius has difficultys expressing how hes feeling, but he does express when hes angry and hurt. so it would make the relationship a lot healthier because sirius is capable of showing barty what angers him, saddens him or just generally upsets him.

i also believe that sirius would help barty crack out of his shell and show him how hes feeling, where as regulus doesnt know how to express feelings so he wouldnt know what to do or say even if barty showed him how he was feeling.

i feel like there would always be a barrier between regulus and barty, because they were friends prior relationship. like they would be too scared to show affection towards eachothers because they were worried that if they ever split, so would their friendship??

but with sirius and barty, there would be no barriers because if they ever break up, there would be no friendship to salvage. they would be able to show their appreciation and show eachother proper affection. they wouldnt need to fear the thought of their friendship because of breaking up, because there was no friendship?? they would be able to love eachother without thinking they are loving their friend, do u know what i mean??

Idk I feel like regulus would be too much of a wuss to confess to barty, and barty is just oblivious when it comes to feelings. There’s also the fact that they could be scared to fight, cause they think that one fight will mean the end of their entire relationship (platonic and romantic) so when they eventually fight, it would be really explosive

sirius & barty also don’t have mutual friends (other than reg but I’m not counting him in a canon setting) so they wouldn’t feel pressured by mutual friends to stay together. There’s none of the “but if we break up, what will happen to our group??” And they’re just in love For Them And No One Else

Speculations on Claude's difference in character in 3 Hopes vs 3 Houses

Writing this because I'm so tired of seeing so many angry comments and tweets and posts about his supposed character assassination (among other things) and because I have faith in my guy. As of writing this, I've only just finished Part 1 of Golden Wildfire and only know some tidbits from spoilers (which I willingly exposed myself to)

The main gripe people seem to have about Claude's character is to do with how forceful and unwilling to hear people out and inquire about situations and people's motives. Personally, I don't see it as character assassination but rather a different way he could have developed if he hadn't gone through White Clouds in 3 Houses or met Byleth, or hadn't had to kill his half-brother, Shahid.

What I think was the turning point for Claude's forceful and aggressive actions, was very likely the event that he killed his own brother. We see traces of 3 Houses Claude, him trying to reason with Shahid and wanting to talk things out but alas, Shahid doesn't care and Claude ultimately makes the decision to kill him. Post-battle, we see Claude is very clearly affected by that event.

6 months later, Claude reforms the Alliance into the Leicester Federation and is placed as its king.

Perhaps it's all the stress built up from the war. The Alliance has been going through battle after battle and it's taking a toll on him. It doesn't help that because he wasn't in the Academy for a year to get to know his classmates and learn to trust others, he feels like as the Alliance Leader (as of Part 1), he has to shoulder all the decisions and be responsible for everything that happens. The Roundtable Conferences don't help with his frustrations either.

Through supports and the story itself, Claude has shown signs of disdain for the Alliance's system, but he hasn't really seen the need to change it, although it is inefficient. Then Shez comes along and goes, "Hey, why don't you make yourself the sole leader so decisions will go by faster during wartime?" and it opens up a possibility he hadn't even thought about. If he becomes the sole leader and doesn't need to go through the endless circling of decisions waiting for all 5 lords to come to a unanimous decision, things will be done faster and he can do what he wants to do quicker.

Back to Shahid's death and his impact on Claude's mental state - it definitely changed him. Perhaps after making the choice to kill his own blood, he made the decision to no longer hold back. He can't be too "soft" or hesitant anymore. He needs to be more resolved in his decisions and perhaps that is why we see the Claude we see in 3 Hopes. The aggressive, cutthroat Claude who doesn't consider choosing to hear people out. This can be seen in his decision to send troops to the 3 lords' territories to create public order instead of Lorenz's suggestion to send an envoy first. Claude even says that they'll "probably make half-baked excuses anyway" and that there's no point talking things out. This is pretty much where I've left off from the game, but it's clear that Shahid's refusal to reason with him still affects him.

I do think that perhaps the writers could have shown that a bit more, but Claude is way more reserved in his emotions and willingness to express himself and it may have been difficult to show that internal turmoil. Either way, I still think calling Claude's change of character, "character assassination" is going too far especially if you don't consider the prior events and the what-if's and differences in situation and events that occur between both games.

Could you do something with Deuce where the player always compliments him whenever they get a card or see him? He is my best boy and I love him so darn much that I always louldy anounce it when I see him :,) Thank you!

2013 Chinese GP

Round 3~

LEWIS IS ON POLE! Raikkonen 2nd, Alonso 3rd, Rosberg 4th, Massa and Grosjean 5th and 6th, surprise! it's Daniel Ricciardo in 7th, Jenson in 8th, Seb is only in 9th and Hulkenberg in 10th, neither of these two have set a time in Q3 it seems.

Formation lap

Webber is starting from the pitlane? Let me check Wikipedia. Ah he ran out of fuel during his second hot lap in Q2 so he was unable to provide the infamous 1L to the FIA. He was to start from the back of the grid but they changed his gearbox just like they did with Seb in Abu Dhabi in 2012 hence the pit lane start. 

And they're racing! 

Good start from Lewis. The two Ferraris jump up to P2 and P3 but Massa goes wide in turn 1. He still retains position in front of Raikkonen. Rosberg overtakes Grosjean for P5. Alonso is looking at Lewis… Webber is told to pit this lap, already getting rid of the soft tyres that degrade terribly fast on the hot Chinese track. Alonso was just 0.3 behind Lewis but he brings that gap up to 0.7 while Massa closes on Alonso. Now DRS is enabled… and so Alonso gets DRS over Lewis but Massa gets DRS over Alonso and Raikkonen gets DRS over Massa. It's the first DRS train I believe lmao. 

While we watch the replay of the start, Alonso attacks Lewis and he gets the lead in the pit straight. And Massa overtakes him too! Oh and here comes Raikkonen… hold on hold on… oh that was close. On lap 5 Ricciardo pits. The soft tyres are already cooked. In the meantime, Seb overtakes Rosberg for P7. Lewis pits, ROSBERG PITS?! that's… not. Gonna go well? No it does but uhhh. Okay. They're way down the field now but it's to be expected pitting so early. Sutil also pitted with a broken rear wing and it's a mess. His rear brakes are on fire! Oof, the rear wing is broken because Gutierrez locked up and hit him while Seb was overtaking Rosberg. He's out, his suspension broke. 

Alonso pits. Raikkonen pits. Massa stays out for one more lap. Lewis is already just behind Alonso. He's the fastest man on the track right now and much faster than leading Massa on his old tyres. Massa pits. Grosjean pits. Lewis sets a new fastest lap. I could tell you about the order now but honestly it would make no sense given half the field hasn't pitted yet. Lewis is currently in P9 though, behind Alonso. They both overtake Bottas. They both overtake JEV. We're on lap 10.

Massa and Raikkonen are also making their way up the field. Oh… Bottas and JEV are under investigation for overtaking under yellow flags. Alonso is much faster than Seb who's currently P2, who started on mediums instead of the softs. We'll see how that strategy plays out. Seb is told the pace is good. Alonso overtakes Di Resta for P5, and then Perez for P4. Lewis is still stuck in P7. Seb is going to pit. At the same time as Hulkenberg who was in the lead this whole time! Dramatic. Yep. Sauber fucked up. It's a 2.5s pit stop for RedBull vs. 6.1s for Sauber. Seb is out ahead, in P9. OH! WEBBER TOUCHED A TORO ROSSO. He has damage and it's JEV left facing the wrong way on the track! Seb is ahead then. OHHH AND AS WE WATCH WEBBER PIT IT'S RAIKKONEN HITTING PEREZ! AND NOW WEBBER IS OUT ON THE TRACK BUT SLOWING DOWN?! It's a DNF? Replay of the Raikkonen-Perez incident. Lol Raikkonen went on the grass and lost control of the car and then he has the audacity to go on the radio saying "WHAT IS HE DOING?!" my man he's driving on the track is what, what are you doing though? Hulkenberg sets the fastest lap. Seb is closing on Massa. OH! WEBBER LOST HIS WHEEL!

Chaotic as fuck. Shouldn't they get a penalty for dangerous driving for asking him to drive back to the pit slowly as they did? Alonso is closing on Jenson who's currently in the lead somehow. Lewis is P3, 5.5 seconds behind. We're on lap 20.

Massa pits again. Rosberg pits. Seb overtakes Perez for P5. DRS is enabled again but Alonso still can't overtake Jenson who still hasn't pitted btw. It seems McLaren might go for a 2-stop strategy. One lap later it's over though, Alonso is leading. Lewis is under pressure from Raikkonen who still has a broken front wing. Rosberg pitted AGAIN?! Both Lewis and Raikkonen pit at the same time! It should give a Lewis some relief if they change Raikkonen's front wing. They don't! 

On the stewards side of things : Bottas-JEV no further action for undertaking under yellow flags, Perez-Raikkonen no further action either. 

Seb is P3, then, while Lewis is back in P9. Jenson still P2 on 0 stop. And Alonso is told to come in in the next lap. Rosberg retires. Jenson, who will soon pit, instructs his team on changes to the front wing. Lewis overtakes Daniel for P7 but Daniel gets DRS… he can't make it. Jenson and Alonso pit. Alonso is out in P3 in front of Perez, Jenson is out in P5 ahead of Lewis. Lewis sets the fastest lap. Button and Grosjean are under investigation for using the DRS in the yellow flagged sector. That's not good. Lewis sets the fastest lap. He's up in P5, Perez has pitted. Alonso overtakes Hulkenberg for P2. Lewis is close to Jenson now, 0.6 seconds. Jenson asks whether he should fight him and he's told yes. Seb is told not to lose time defending against Alonso, "lap times are critical". Lewis overtakes Jenson, he's now in P4. Alonso overtakes Seb for the lead. Hulkenberg pits. Lewis is back on the podium, but Jenson is just one second behind him and Raikkonen 0.2 seconds behind Jenson. We're on lap 31.

Seb is told to pit. Raikkonen overtakes Jenson. Lewis is up in P2. Seb is out in 8th place, but immediately overtakes Massa for 7th, and Di Resta for 6th. Raikkonen is getting closer to Lewis though, and Lewis is 11 seconds behind Alonso. But Raikkonen pits. They still didn't change his nose. He's out in 8th. Lewis is told to push, he'll stop one last time so now's the time to put in good laps. Seb overtakes Jenson for P3. They'll both have to stop again anyway. Massa and Hulkenberg pit, the latter got overtaken by Massa in the pitlane exit. And Mercedes is ready for Lewis. It's critical. Good stop, but Raikkonen is ahead. Lewis is half a second behind Daniel, it won't last. Yep. P5. Ted tells us Massa has just asked his engineer "what's the situation in this race?" which shows they're just as confused as we are about it. They're all on such different strategies it's difficult to know how it's gonna end. We're on lap 40.

Lewis sets the fastest lap. No less than 6 cars, including Seb, will be investigated after the race for using the DRS in yellow flags conditions. I guess it's going to be one of those races after which I have to hit Wikipedia. 

Alonso pits. Seb is back in the lead but Alonso is not far behind. Lewis sets the fastest lap. Alonso overtakes Seb. Lewis is less than a second behind Raikkonen. Raikkonen is less than a second behind Jenson. Who's gonna overtake who first? Raikkonen is past Jenson, Lewis can't quite make it… it just took one more corner. 10 laps to go. Lewis is losing time over Raikkonen. Now he's closing again. He's told they expect Seb to pit in the next three lap from P2 and the end of the race will be close. He's now under the second already. Jenson is about to stop. We're on lap 50.

It was a good stop for McLaren. Jenson is out in 7th. 5 laps to go. Jenson overtakes Massa for P6. Seb is called in. So Raikkonen up in P2, Lewis up in P3, Seb out in P4. Seb is told to race to the end, Jenson is told to defend from Massa behind. These two were supposed to fight over 4th place but it's not going to happen. 3 laps to go. Lewis locked up on a corner. He's only 0.6 behind Raikkonen though. Seb sets the fastest lap on his new soft tyres. Di Resta pits so Jenson is in P5 now behind Seb. 2 laps to go. Seb is mighty fast… he's only 5 seconds off Lewis. Ohhh that's scary. Come on. Get that podium Lewis come on. The gap is already down to 2.7!!! Final lap! Holy shit. 2 seconds. No no no no no. 1.2. The pace difference is INSANE. And there's traffic. Lewis is calling for blue flags for the back markers on the radio. He's understandably frantic. Seb went a bit too deep! It's the DRS zone… Seb has the DRS! 

It's the end of the race! 

Alonso wins, Raikkonen is P2 but we don't give a shit about that show us the battle… LEWIS LOCKS UP IN THE LAST CORNER BUT HE MAINTAINS POSITION wheeeeew 

That was stressful! 

Bono says "phew that was a close one Lewis so yes P3, P3 mate, excellent drive there!" and Ross Brawn tells him it was a really good drive "we're not quite there yet but we're not so far away so let's keep working hard!" 

It's Ferrari’s 500th win if I understand correctly. Oh. We don't have the podium at all? Nooo come on. It's disappointing. 

Well let's see if there were penalties after the race anyway. Nope. It does not seem so.

HSR FAQ 𖡻 Fleet of Ageless or Broken Keel Set for supports?

Answer

Either have it this way:

Broken Keel for abundance and (some) preservation units.

Fleet of Ageless for harmony and nihility units.

Or this way:

Broken Keel for crit teams

Fleet of Ageless for DoT (damage over time) teams

Additional Stuffs

The set effect of both sets could stack on a unit. Use both sets in a team.

DoT/weakness break dmg doesn't crit so the crit dmg buff of broken keel is useless in DoT teams. Use fleet of ageless set on DoT teams, but Space-Sealing Station set is more suitable to use for DoT DPS.

Crit DMG > ATK% for more dmg.

Effect RES from Broken Keel set effect on healers and some shielders (like Fire MC since their kit doesn't benefit from EHR unlike Gepard or March 7th) so that they'll have additional resistance from being frozen, imprisoned, or entangled.

Additional HP% on buffers and debuffers for more survivability, especially for Tingyun who kept on aggroing the enemies to herself despite having shielders on team.

Effect RES substats have higher probability to roll than speed. It is easier to get the required effect RES for Broken Keel set than the 120 spd requirement of Fleet of Ageless set if you're not using spd boots on your units.

hi!! feel free to delete this ask if you don't want to answer it, but i was thinking of posting gif packs on payhip, and if i did i would be going for a similar price point as you seem to have ($0.01 per gif?). i was just wondering (and this is a bit nosy of me sorry) if you'd had many/any sales so far?

hello!!! yes i have just been doing $0.01/gif, which honestly seems low even to me, but i figured it was a good starting point, i guess? like when you think about how long it takes to gif — from downloading, converting or screencapping, to coloring, actually making the gif, etc — it's like big oof one penny per gif? but it's better than nothing was what i was thinking!

i have had some sales — not many, though! i would recommend doing what i did and putting a + sign after your price when you set it so people have the option to pay more if they would like to donate to you, which i did have one awesome person do! they threw in a couple extra dollars for me, which made my heart swell! surprising to me, it's the less-popular faceclaims that are selling any packs at all.

i will also note that paypal takes a huge fee from payhip, which is 1/2 ways to cash out your earnings, the second being this lesser-known app that i looked into that takes just as big of a fee. for example, i got really excited on my first pack that sold, and it was like $0.95... well i opened the app and i got $0.27 aaaaaaaaaaaaaa. this makes me mad — not just for me but for the people buying the packs. it's not as bad the higher you go, for example if someone sends $10 i think it will give you around like $8.50? so it takes less the more you make. that might be another reason to price higher, but idk.

honestly, i think there's plenty of people willing to pay for gif packs. however, there's also plenty of people who aren't even willing to REBLOG paid content. like, it's been a struggle to get these out there. usually i can post a gif pack and it has plenty of reblogs within a certain time span, even lesser known faceclaims (like joe keery vs lorenzo zurzolo) but like the first kill packs have been hell to get any attention to, even considering the fact that i broke them up into smaller portions, therefore posting different varieties multiple times.

all in all, i say if you're thinking about it, do it!! despite not having many sales, the few sales i have had has made me feel really good. it's made me feel rewarded for a completed project, it's made me feel like my efforts were put to good use and i wasn't just sitting on the computer for 3842839402384 hours for nothing, and i have something to show for it. it is disheartening to see a lack of reblogs, but hopefully we push past that soon if more gif-makers do this!

i might have to take my own advice to just do it with other packs. i've been tempted to take down my old packs and make them paid content as well, i've just been worried about it. i'm worried there'll be some angry people who will leak my gifs if they already had them before they were paid content. i don't want to think that way, but like any community, some in the rpc are... anyway, LMAO

(about the endeavor stuff) things like that are the reason I say horikoshi has good ideas, he's just a terrible writer imo bc nothing ever DELIVERS he backs out last second when the narrative is winding up to be interesting and impactful bc ...? Idk really tbh but it's sooo frustrating esp bc his concepts and chara designs are so good. The best way to interact with bnha is just, as a vague suggestion imo lmao

goodness yes... BNHA is very much a "great set up can't stick the landing" kind of series. it establishes fun characters and an interesting world and then just... couldn't figure out how to deliver on them.

Like the "ramping up" part of BNHA, which is everything up through the Kamino arc, was really good. Then after All Might vs All for One it just felt like... the series could only bounce around aimlessly trying to figure out what it cared about. And you're totally right that narratives and characters just get dropped halfway once Horikoshi doesn't know what else to say about them.

If I had to identify one specific thing that I think really broke my interest in the series, it's that Horikoshi gets bored of his characters.

Iida Ochako and Deku were a really endearing protag trio until... Iida and Ochako just got nuked. All Might was a fantastic presence in the series until he just kinda got shoved sidewards. Now Mirio and Night Eye are main characters! Now they're not. Oh actually Deku Todoroki and Bakugou are the protag trio! Never mind no they're not. Now the whole SERIES is about the League of Villains. Now it isn't. Now Endeavor Hawks and Mirko are the main characters! Now they're not. Sudden fixation on Shigaraki! Sudden fixation on Lady Nagant! Four seconds of caring about Dabi now we don't! Best Jeanist is a protagonist now! Who's Class 1A? It's been a while since they were used for anything genuine.

(And okay okay I get it. I know what it's like to write something long-form that ends up getting you frustrated and tired of your own characters. The best way to deal with that is to step away from it for a while and Horikoshi can't do that, so his solution is just to completely rotate the character cast to new characters he does care about) but goodness does that hurt the quality of the overall narrative.

It's like I've watched everything and everyone get built halfway that I no longer believe there's a trajectory to the series I will care about. I believe at this point the conclusion to the series will involve wrapping up a plot thread that is completely new, the end result of a long chain of bouncing focuses, and ultimately captures nothing about what I originally cared about.

My Editing Process

I've been asked to detail my editing process that I've been developing over the years. A bit of backstory overall—I've been writing fanfiction for 20 years as of this post, ever since I was 9. My first fanfics were godawful but I enjoyed how fun they were so I kept writing. I love worldbuilding and storytelling. The majority of my progress, however, has been made in the last 9 or so years.

Now as I've always said, I'm not the best writer at all nor will I ever claim to be, I've just been writing for a long time. My storytelling needs some serious work, and my lack of an attention span and ability to tell stories actually cripples me from writing longer, more fleshed out fics. Basically, I'm a short story writer. But with Apex Legends, I'm trying to inch my way into writing longer fics, and at the very least, fics with actual small plots.

In saying all that, my editing process has developed over the years as well, but the biggest overall was about a year ago when I started watching more YT videos of writer tips and content.

Kinda New Process (First major change)

My writing process for the longest time was just "read over fic, fix typos, done" which is...not very efficient lmao.

Last year during my YT video binge I learned about the different stages of editing and started incorporating that into my process. This was the first major edit I made to my process before my current iteration. I'll give a brief overview of what they these stages are, but keep in mind I'm not a professional writer:

Developmental. This is where I worry about the overall structure and plot of the fic. Does it make sense? Does it flow well? Is the pacing okay? How's the character development? These are usually the biggest changes I'll make to the fic overall and often times involve full on structural and paragraph changes.

Line Editing. What it sounds like. Editing lines line by line so the sentence sounds good and reads well. This is where I'll do the majority of the description editing and sentence restructuring. Making sure the sentence overall just isn't boring.

Typos/Grammar. What it says on the tin.

This worked pretty well for me. The first three fics I used this editing process on were the three fics I wrote for Apex Rarepair Week last year—"Rude Awakening", "Fairy Tales", and "I Got You". And honestly compared to the fics that came before these, I think they were a step up.

Current Editing Process

Sometime last year I got a copy of a Self-Editing book that broke down this process even further for...self-editing lol. There's a LOT of good info in there that I picked up and added to my process and it changed a little. This is what I currently do:

Highlighting Phase. This is where I read through the fic and highlight every line, paragraph, or section that I think needs some work. I also did this in my last process. The highlights are color-coded and correspond to each stage of editing I do. I will also add personal comments here. The comments are usually tied to a highlight and remind me of ideas I have to add, edit, or remove content. Or I just praise myself. Gotta pat yourself on the back too, ya know.

First-Pass Editing. The stages have slightly changed because of the info I got from the book. I'll repeat this stage as many times as it takes, especially if I've made seriously major structure changes (and this is partially why Mafia AU has been taking so long to finish). During this stage I will do Story-level, Scene-level, and Sentence-level editing. I'll describe those below. This is technically broken into three stages as I will only focus on Story or Scene or Sentence level only. Basically I knock out all the Story-level and associated comments first, then Scene, then Sentence.

Second-Pass Editing. This is after the first pass is complete. I will only do Sentence-level editing here. The purpose of this is to further tighten up my sentences after all the structure and story elements are set in stone.

Final Read-Through. The last time I will read the fic. I'll fix any lingering typos and oddities here.

(Optional) Beta Reading. I don't have a dedicated beta reader unfortunately, but my best friend enjoys reading my fics and she's a pretty good critic.

I also changed my editing stages a little:

Story-level. Similar to the previous Developmental stage. Worries about the overall structure of the fic, overall character development growth and change, makes sure the story overall makes sense. Again, this is where I'll make the biggest structural changes to the story.

Scene-level. This is somewhat similar to the previous step because most of my fics are one-shots. But slightly different. Here, I'll worry about scene versus summary (aka showing vs telling), description, pacing, dialogue and character action, etc.

Sentence-level. Basically line editing. I will worry about how well the sentence sounds and feels. Get rid of filtering ("he/she/they feels/sees/hears/touches/etc.) for stronger more visceral actions, fine-tune details, eliminate excessive stage direction (e.g. too much movement description, tho I'm still learning this), get rid of passive voice and ambiguity, and increasing specificity (instead of saying "she watered a plant", you can say "she watered a towering and wilting ficus.").

I can't remember what fic started the new process, but I'm pretty sure it was "Why I'm Here."

And that's about it! I am still in the process of figuring out ways to fine-tune this process and still digesting what aspects of writing I need to improve upon, but it's a process. This takes longer than editing used to, but I genuinely believe it's allowed me to output higher-quality content and stories. Welp, hello, here I am, back at it again at krispy kreme. 

Ok, so, this time my crossover Idea that has to do with Sagau and Tears of Themis. Any one is free to use this crossover idea! Let’s go!

Now- I am not going to go too deep into story spoilers for tears of Themis, just a heads up.  

So, Mc (Aka Rosa), is a lawyer, but it’s also shown she has at least SOME anime knowledge, so I wouldn’t really be surprised if she was a closeted Genshin player (She’s a Yanfei main: change my mind). She doesn’t play it extremely often, mostly just casually during her days off, but that is more than enough for our dear cult to get attached to her. ;)

However, unlike the Obey me crossover where Mc’s gets dragged into the game world, the Genshin characters instead wind up coming to Mc’s world instead. Mc is initially shocked by their appearance, because, I mean..who wouldn’t be? 

Mc.. Honest to god has no idea what to do with them, but the acolytes quickly say that many of them won’t stay in her apartment long (Even if they want to spend as much time around her as possible, they don’t to be a burden to their creator. That just simply would not do!). The ones that do stay end up being the children and Zhongli (the ever loyal dragon butler lol-) with the children staying in the guest bedroom upstairs and Zhongli sleeping on the couch which happens to have a pull out futon (with Mona and Venti taking turns passing out on the coffee table like the broke bitches they are lmao). The others wind up creating fake identities and getting jobs (however they all tend to come and go from her apartment, no matter what she says). Here are some of the ones I came up with:

Yanfei, of course, winds up working for the Themis Law, with Mc saying that she was a “friend from law school”, and ends up making Artem extremely uncomfortable and jealous when he sees her constantly cuddling up to Mc or coming to her for help with a case she could obviously get done herself. 

Albedo ends up becoming a chemistry major with a side major in art at Stellis University (and has begun a ruthless campaign to make Marius's life at Uni a living hell hehe). He also got into a staring contest with Vyn once in the hallway, which was very..tense and awkward. 

Childe ends up actually opening up a toy store in Stellis, which ironically (or maybe unironically 👀 👀 ) winds up being near Luke’s “antique store”. Luke does not like him. At all. He’ll protectively stand in front of Mc staring him down as Childe looks absolutely ready to murder him with a smile on his face. 

Ningguang and Diluc (with some side advice from Zhongli and maybe some..slightly less than legal financial backing from Childe but ssshhh don’t tell Mc) team up and with their unique business-savvy skill sets, become a business power house in Stellis within just a few months. And they always use any money they make to spoil Mc, any chance they get. This is how Marius finds Mc squished between two very rich business owners who were taking turns feeding her chocolate covered strawberries. 

And there are probably many more possibilities as to what the cult genshin characters could be doing in Stellis! Feel free to add on ideas as to what jobs they could have or lives they could live whilst trying their best to get close to MC!
