decided to go sunbringer designs for once. I have so many words oh my god

so. uh,

I am so normal about sunbringer joel smallishbeans so normal I swear. he's planning to throw the o from his name at scott btw.

... he and scar are related but I'm not explaining further until the actual fic about it comes out because there's so much plot significance in the smallishbeans.

... grian. has a book. that he borrowed from the Library. it's very relevant I swear the concept of the library is a plot point.

Also grians eyes are technically green! With a bit of purple and just. a layer of Dark over them to make them less neon green. its not in his genetics to have neon eyes. unlike scar and I swear their eye colors are relevant but like in a weird queerplatonic scarian dl based bit in the grian chapter of the fic

Mumbo is a long cat and being held by me specifically those hands are how I draw my mc skin. I wanted to draw him as this meme since 2021 but he's very hard for me to draw so I took the one time I'll ever draw him and did this.

Jimmy is. a creature. that has bird features but also cod features bc again half of the plot of sunbringer is based on empires 1. Also the bird he's holding is singing. And joel is stealing the song bc he has music type magic.

Scott! Is the one guy I can talk about! Because he already appeared in the fic. He's part ender dragon and like. a child of stars? I have a lot of times I drew him before I think but idk how much of it I uploaded before so yeah. Please ask me about sunbringer scott smajor he's one of the only ones I can talk about and he has so much lore going for him he's so dear to me

impulse is. technically part ender dragon too? the specifics will be explained in his chapter of yhiwu (alongside. a lot of magic lore. like a lot. I have half that speech written already it's basically looking the empires fic in the eyes and going "fight me uwu")

And because impulse is aligned to shadows skizz gets to be some form of light dragon descendant? Like light isn't directly an element in the magic of this universe but it does have an equivalent in the element of Life, which connects to truth and love, whereas shadows and theatrics (and storytelling in general) is always aligned to whatever element is considered dark; in this magic system, being Void.

Tango is looking up at mumbo. thats all. I don't have a lot of notes because my tango is just a little guy.

... ngl the only note I have on the bdubs design is that it's accidentally inspired by my human design for the main character in the show I'm writing. Bracelets and sparkly eyes and a t-shirt and. Crimes.

also not much on the cleo design she was just fun to draw but the implications of her existence are spoilers and also not really visually indicative bc idk what a "zombie hybrid" would look like so she just looks. funky. her background is all stitched together btw I finally had a use for the dashed lines brush :D

martyn and ren are. BIG spoilers. But only to like chapter 5 of the current fic. I will say I highly enjoy their existence tho. Also my ren designs always have hawaiian patterned shirts its a personality trait he seems to possess. Also his glasses are like. a hologram? bc his ears are Dog so he cant have normal glasses w like. the things that go behind ur ears.

lizzie is. also very important. she gets the two animals thing like jimmy bc axolotl and cat were her empires animals. also her buns are heart shaped I saw some fanart of that and its really cute so I also have that. and she's also looking at the long mumbo! very confused.

bigb. scares me. like yeah secret life really be mans villain arc. I tried to reflect that by actually straight up mirroring his eyes and having him be. the only guy looking straight at u. he can see u. u can run but u cant hide. also he gets cookies. also also drawing facial hair is hard he's the only time I ever managed to make facial hair look. normal. ever. wont happen again.

gem is being adorable and also definitely a deer hybrid dont mind the magic or stuff its fine (her chapter is. third in the roster. I literally just need to finish the impulse chapter to convince myself that its ok to upload her immediately after ch2).

and pearl! who we know bc she gets first chapter of the fic and thats already out. her eyes are a bit like moons btw. also she's doing magic back at gem which is cute I think. idk.

also half of them have fancy hair shines. like joel having beans that get progressively smaller. or pearl having moons. :D

Tags: gn!reader, reader is in a queerplatonic relationship with Junichi, Zantetsu, Tokimitsu and Raichi but those four are just close friends, a bit of crack and a bit of fluff, A LOT of self indulgence, a bit of swearing, not proofread

You sure do have a weird selection of queerplatonic boyfriends and hanging out with all of them at once is always a huge mess. Most of the time, you hang out with each of them separately anyways, but every now and then you ask them to spend time as the entire group. It's not like they don't get along, but they're just an odd combination. Although, Raichi tends to start little arguments all the time.

Because summer is approaching and the weather is nice, you've invited all four of them to a rainbow picnic in the backyard. And so far, everything is going surprisingly well.

Your assigned colour was red, so you made a strawberry cake all by yourself. Raichi's colour was yellow, and what did he bring? Lemons. Yes. It made you burst out in laughter immediately, but Raichi didn't seem embarrassed at all. He still had his usual grin on his face and waited for the next person to get out what they brought.

Zantetsu got out a box of blueberries from his bag, which Raichi immediately has to comment on. "Aren't they rather purple?"

"...They have blue in der name." Zantetsu shrugs and puts the blueberries down on the picnic blanket.

"They're not really blue, though?" Raichi's voice sounds slightly irritated.

Zantetsu glares back at Raichi and the lemons he brought. "And who's supposed to eat your limes?"

"They're lemons, idiot." Raichi responds only a few seconds later

You already expected some sort of conflict to happen, so you just let those two argue for a bit until they calm down. Well, that always takes a few minutes because Raichi never backs down and Zantetsu doesn't like being wrong. In the meantime, Tokimitsu and Junichi get their food out as well - Toki brought green grapes and Junichi brought chocolate chip cookies - but the other two don't notice any of that due to their arguing.

After minutes of fighting, neither Raichi nor Zantetsu has calmed down and it's starting to annoy Junichi at this point. You notice he's getting irritated from the annoyed little grunts he's letting out every time he looks at Raichi and Zantetsu, so even though you think their argument is funny, you don't want Junichi to be in a bad mood because of them.

"Guys can you maybe calm down and stop arguing?"

"Zantetsu still doesn't admit his blueberries aren't blue!"

"At least I brought something you can eat!" Zantetsu argues back and crosses his arms.

Raichi's angry expression changes to a smirk as he grabs one of the lemons and just bites into it without hesitation.

You roll your eyes at the sight of that, although you can't help but laugh about it. "Raichi I love you, but you're really fucking stupid."

"I have a point to prove here!" Raichi takes another bite, but spits it out on the grass pretty quickly."

"Great point you proved there." You reach over to nudge his arm. "Now admit you brought something no one is gonna eat."

"...Fine." Raichi mutters under his breath, slightly annoyed before looking over at the food Tokimitsu and Junichi brought.

You can see how Tokimitsu gets nervous over Raichi possibly judging what he brought, so you take his hand to reassure him he didn't mess up anything. Actually, Raichi is about to judge Junichi's chocolate chip cookies because he got brown and the chocolate is dark enough to almost be black, but he then decides against it.

There's a death stare on Junichi's face when he notices Raichi looking at the cookies, though. Maybe another argument is about to happen - or maybe not.

While everyone is eating (everything except for Raichi's lemons), it's actually surprisingly calm. No one is talking much, not as if Junichi talks a lot in general and Tokimitsu prefers to stay silent most of the time as well, but neither has Raichi left a stupid comment about something nor has Zantetsu said anything to come off as cool.

Because of the silence, Tokimitsu gets a bit nervous. He always feels the urge as if he has to be the one to talk if everyone else is silent, but he has no idea what to say. He's learned to just grab your hand if he's only slightly uncomfortable, so as soon as you feel his hand on yours again, all your attention is on him. The look in his eyes lets you know the silence is uncomfortable for him, so you think about how to start another conversation. One that hopefully doesn't cause any conflict.

Norah (She/her trans woman, 21) - Formerly a ball of anxiety and fawn responses, now more calm and stoic. Still can get pretty emotional around people she trusts.

Lilly (She/her trans woman, 22) - Usually a fairly compassionate and empathetic person. Feels responsible for the people around her, which means she can get overbearing at times.

(Norah and Lilly are both aroace, and in a queerplatonic relationship with each other)

Tyler (He/him cis man, 25) (Yes, really) - Fairly upbeat to most people, but also very insecure. Mostly just wants people to like him.

Paige (They/him transmasc libramale, 24) - Generally dispassionate, Mostly just lets life happen to them. Also a bit of chemistry nerd.

so what im working with here is fluff, modern au, arranged marriage, AND you pulled the WIP card so ill plotdump a fic premise like this is a WIP im working on and not something i just made up >:)

so, first off, this is arranged marriage AND modern au. nothing is going to change EXCEPT that the cookies have technology now. ill possibly use some other tropes while im at it heehoo

dark choco is still a prince, and dark cacao is still king of his kingdom. caramel arrow is from a family that is not nobility, nor part of the court; however, she is the First Watcher, the youngest commander of the watchers to ever hold the position.

normally, the prince would marry the child of a noble family, keeping ties within the court intact. however, because of her performance as First Watcher, caramel arrow's family is sought out by the king, and the prince's hand is extended to her in marriage

this ends up angering the court actually; many of them have eligible sons, daughters, and children the prince could marry, but for reasons i havent fully thought of yet bc im making this up as i go, dark cacao wants caramel arrow to marry dark choco. and of course, her family agrees.

so now we get into choco and cara meeting. they've never actually met each other before! dark choco is the prince, and caramel arrow may be the commander of the watch, but they've never really had any reason to get to know each other. of course, they've heard of each other! they've just never spoken a word to each other.

HOWEVER.

they do know each other online.

they met years ago online, and have been friends online for a long time! neither of them know the other's real name or face; they're both hidden behind pseudonyms and profile pic icons, but they're still very good friends and get along great despite not knowing the other person's name or face. they have a lot of inside jokes and other online friends they share, but they've been friends the longest out of everyone else they're friends with.

over the course of the fic, caramel arrow and dark choco meet in real life and its awkward, and then they turn around and complain to each other online about how awkward it is to not really know your arranged spouse at all. eventually they find out that they're each other's online friend and that they've been talking to each other this ENTIRE time, and it ends up really fluffy and cute ùwú

this could be read romantically, queerplatonically, just platonically and they're married, however you ship them bc im not planning on writing this haha. EITHER WAY, they're cute together

heyyy it’s that time of year - happy a little over a year anniversary to working hard at follow through, my cookie run longfic about spontaneous child adoption, found family, and working towards healing. it’s a part of a larger alternate universe that is very very important to me, and even though this is the only posted work, i am still deeply proud of it a year later. if you haven’t checked it out: you should! it’s got:

Thank you for the ask Anon! That is a really good question. I don't actually know my favorite ones but here is a little list of ones I like in no particular order. <3

(also I don't know if this is supposed to be romantic character dynamics and what not so this will either be platonic or general unless otherwise stated.)

I think in terms of Tropes I like

The reincarnation trope (especially if the pair, whether it's romantic or platonic, had some kind of tragic past life and they get a chance with happiness again.)

Time Loops >:3

"I'm not a parent..." *Is followed by at least a dozen kids who all call them Mom/Dad/parental unit*

Roll swap is fun

Everybody Lives AU (just let them all be happy! ;-;)

Everybody Dies AU (They can be happy in the afterlife, yeah? Pairs great with Reincarnation fics lol)

Strongly Written Female Characters (not just physical strength too. Also allow them moments of "weakness" where they can cry if they need to)

"I'm Fine!" - "Bull!" (Give me characters that break down the unhealthy walls of another character. Let them process the event that happened! And let them come out alright, hurt and changed, but alright.)

In terms of Character Dynamics I like

The loud "dumb" one and the quiet chaotic one (Kinda like Preset Mic and Eraserhead. Those two are both super smart even if it doesn't seem like it and I'm loving it)

Enemies to Lovers (except it needs to make sense! If the characters hate each other specifically at the beginning it's a no go for me. This trope can be a very abusive one if not done right sadly.)

Lovers to Enemies (slow burn is really good for this one but sudden reveals about some dark thing that one of the characters is doing [not cheating, my AroAce self does not comprehend cheating on your partner] like "oh hey I murdered someone" and the other partner recoils and questions whether they knew their partner at all. Basically slow burn or speed run, no in-between lol)

I squished my face against the cool windowpane, watching the cotton candy clouds float by. My little heart did a happy dance knowing that soon I would be in the park with Mommy, Daddy, and Uncle Piccolo.

I turned to my yellow stuffed bunny. One of his button eyes was loose, but Mommy said she’ll fix it soon. “Did you know Uncle Piccolo is back from his trip, Mr. Fluffles?”

"Pan, honey, are you ready?" Mommy called from downstairs. She always smelled like flowers and sunshine, and her hugs were warm like French toast sticks. Daddy was strong like a superhero and smart like the books with big words. And Uncle Piccolo? He was green and tall and didn't smile much, but his eyes were kind like a giant teddy bear's.

I hopped away from the window, my feet pitter-pattering on the floor as I scurried to get my little yellow backpack.

"Park, park, park!" I chanted to myself, imagining all the fun games Uncle Piccolo would play with me. Sometimes he pretended to be a grumpy dragon, and I was the knight with a stick-sword. Mommy and Daddy would watch us, clapping and laughing.

Running into the living room, I spotted skin the color of my favorite crayon. “Uncle Piccolo!” I shrieked scurrying to wrap my small arms around his leg.

He gave a rumbling laugh that reminded me of happy thunder. “It’s good to be back,” he said, running pointed nails through my hair.

“I wish you’d stop going away.” My lower lip trembled. Daddy always gave in when it did that.

Of course, Uncle Piccolo was harder than that. He knelt down so that he was at my level. “I have to go out there to stay strong and vigilant. The same way your Mom and Dad have to go work.”

I dropped my head. “I know.”

Daddy quickly scooped me up into his arms and placed a kiss into my hair. "Is my little knight ready to conquer the swings?"

I giggled and nodded, the excitement bubbling inside me like fizzy juice.

"Uncle Piccolo, are you gonna be the dragon today?" I asked, looking at him with wide, hopeful eyes.

"Perhaps," he said, and I knew that meant yes. He always said 'perhaps' when he wanted to surprise me.

Daddy grabbed the giant picnic basket heavy with enough sandwiches and cookies to feed a small army, or so Mommy said, and Mommy grabbed her little purse with important things like dinosaur band-aids and bug spray. We headed out the door, my hands in Mommy and Daddy's. Uncle Piccolo walked beside us. He didn't hold hands because his were big and different, but he was still part of our special circle.

The park was waiting for us with slides swings and laughter and sunshine. Today was going to be the best day ever because I was with my favorite people in the whole wide world. No one could have a better family than mine—not even the dragons.

Mommy helped me take my shoes off. The grass tickled my toes as I ran, giggling, toward the big green slide. Uncle Piccolo's superhero cape fluttered behind him like a giant leaf in the wind when he chased me. "You can't catch me," I squealed, darting away just as his long fingers nearly grazed my shoulder.

He could easily catch me if he tried (Uncle Piccolo is super fast!) but he always pretended to be slow.

"Do you remember the lesson of the dragon, Pan?" Uncle Piccolo called out, his voice cool and smooth like the pebbles by the stream.

"Be quick! Be smart!" I shouted back, remembering the last time we played and he told me stories of dragons that were clever and fast. Today, I was the dragon, swift and bright, and Uncle Piccolo was trying to catch me with his wise old tricks.

"That’s my girl!" He laughed, a sound not many heard, but it made me feel bubbly inside.

I scrambled up the steps of the slide, my little feet pattering. When I reached the top, I looked down. It was high up here, like being on Daddy's shoulders when we watched the stars. But I wasn't scared. I couldn’t fully control my flying power yet, but Uncle Piccolo was waiting at the bottom, his arms open just in case.

"Trust your family," he called up to me, his face all serious but kind. "We are always here to catch you."

Squeezing my eyes shut tight, I jumped off the side of the ledge. And then there was nothing holding me down. I was light as a dandelion puff on the breeze. My arms outstretched like wings as I lifted higher. “I’m doing it!” I squealed in delight as I rose up to the top of the tallest tree.

Mommy and Daddy were both smiling at me. Even Uncle Piccolo had that proud look to him. But he also looked super serious like he was concentrating really hard.

Suddenly, a gust of wind swirled around me. It was chilly and tickled my nose. Trying to hold it back, I wiggled my nose, but that only made it worse. “Achoo!”

My arms wobbled like jelly and my body did a sort of wobbly dance as I began to drop, drop, drop.

I tried to fly again, but it was too scary to focus. The air whistled against my ears and the ground was down, down, down.

But instead of hard earth, strong arms caught me. Uncle Piccolo cradled me safely, his green face relieved but still proud.

This was normal, but Mommy and Daddy rushed over just in case. Mommy bit her lip as she moved my hair aside to look at my face. “Such a brave girl,” she cooed.

“See, you can trust us,” Uncle Piccolo rumbled and even though it sounded like thunder it made me feel safe rather than scared.

I nodded as he set me back down on the soft grass.

“Looks like you almost had it today,” Daddy said with a huge grin.

I puffed out my cheeks. “Next time, I’ll stay up longer!”

"Of course, you will," he agreed, ruffling my hair which felt funny and nice.

"And I'll be right here, just in case," Uncle Piccolo promised.

We played more games—hide-and-seek, tag, and one where I tried to copy his funny stretches and poses. It was like a dance, but he said they were warrior moves to keep strong and ready for anything. Mommy and Daddy played some too!

"Always be prepared, Pan," Uncle Piccolo advised as I tried to make my body bend like his. "Mind and body, both must be sharp."

"Like when Mommy teaches me letters and numbers?" I asked, finally getting my leg to stick out straight, just like his.

"Exactly," Uncle Piccolo nodded, a small smile hiding somewhere in his face. "Your mommy and daddy make your mind sharp, while your daddy and I help your body. Together, we make you strong."

"Strong like you?" I asked, pushing out my chest and trying to look tall.

"Stronger," he answered.

"Promise?"

"Promise," he echoed. And I believed him because Uncle Piccolo never ever broke promises. Just like Mommy and Daddy, he was teaching me important things without even using a book or a chalkboard. Just by playing, laughing, and being with me in the bright park.

“Push me!” I called out, dashing to the swings. As soon as I sat down, he was there pushing gently against my back. He was always like that, never making me go high unless I asked. I always asked. But this time I decided I wanted to look around instead of watching everything whoosh as I zoomed back and forth.

A little boy tossed a ball back and forth with his mom. Next to them, two dads cheered on their daughter as she climbed the jungle gym higher and higher. And on the bench nearby, a mommy and daddy handed out sandwiches to a bunch of kids. Everyone seemed to have fun, different kinds of families.

"Uncle Piccolo, we have Mommy, Daddy, and you. That's three! But..." I scanned the park again, scrunching up my face in thought. "I don't see any other kid with three."

"Is that so?" His deep voice rumbled softly as he looked around with me.

"Am I... special?"

"Very special," he agreed.

Daddy said we were special because we were something called Saiyans. Uncle Piccolo was special too which is why he got to have bright green skin, sharp claws, and no appetite. I was glad that I got to eat like Mommy; cookies were my favorite. But it looked like our family was different in another way.

“Because I have you Uncle Piccolo.”

He stopped pushing the swing. “Many children have uncles, Pan.”

I shook my head. “Nuh uh, not like you.” I kicked my legs one by one.

He gripped the chains of the swing and I could see the muscles in his arm flex. “Why is that?” His voice sounded kinda funny.

“Because you live with us, teach me lots of things, and you and Daddy are close just like him and Mommy.”

“Did someone say something mean to you?”

I scrunched my face up. “No. Why would they?”

Uncle Piccolo relaxed and let go of the swing. “They should not. Our family is not their concern.”

It felt like I was missing something, like the piece of my Barbie puzzle that went missing last week.

“You feel like another Daddy,” I said, kicking my feet properly so that I began to move the swing.

“Is that right?” His powerful hands met my back with a gentle push.

“If you feel like a daddy and aren’t like normal uncles, then why am I not calling you Daddy too?”

I waited for him to make a joke that him and Daddy couldn’t both be called Daddy because it would be confusing. Instead, he crouched down beside me to make eye level. I could tell this was a serious conversation, so I stopped swinging again.

“Well, Pan,” he began, choosing his words carefully. “Being a parent is more than just spending time at your house. It’s your mom and dad who take care of you every day. I go away to think and train.”

“That doesn’t matter,” I insisted.

His lips twitched up the tiniest bit. “I will always be here for you, in my own way, Pan. But it is different. Your Mommy and Daddy have a special relationship.”

“So do you and Daddy.”

There was a pause. “Yes, we do. But that is different.”

I tilted my head, feeling as confused as I was when I realized my favorite dress no longer fit me. Mommy said I grew bigger. Maybe this was something I would understand when I was bigger still. For now, all I needed to know was that we were family, and that was the best thing to be, no matter how it looked.

"Okay, Uncle Piccolo," I said, satisfied for now. "Come on, let's have a snack!"

I settled in next to Mommy who put an arm around my shoulder. It made me warm and gooey like a hot peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Daddy said something that made both of them laugh. Daddy’s arm was around Mommy the way hers was around me, and she leaned into him like flowers bend toward the sun.

We drank juice and ate different kinds of sandwiches and cookies until I felt ready to burst.

“There’s a crumb on your cheek,” Daddy said. He reached over, but instead of wiping it away he jabbed at my tummy. It tickled. His fingers wiggled like spider legs over me, making me giggle uncontrollably. I squirmed and kicked out my legs, but I didn’t want him to stop.

Daddy was laughing and so was Mommy. Then I saw Uncle Piccolo, who was standing with his back against the nearby tree, also had a small smile tugging at his lips. He wasn’t one for big, loud laughs, but I could tell that he was happy too.

After a while, Daddy got up to talk with Uncle Piccolo while I stayed and snuggled with Mommy. We watched the fluffy clouds go by trying to see any shapes. I saw a bunny, a whale, and a spaceship!

I looked over and saw that Daddy was holding Uncle Piccolo’s hand the way he often did with Mommy. They were both laughing. It was easy to make Daddy laugh, but it was super duper special to see Uncle Piccolo giving a full laugh.

“Look at them, Mommy. They’re so happy.”

Mommy chuckled and rested her head on top of mine making me feel cozy. “They are, aren’t they?”

“Mommy, I thought Mommies and Daddies held hands, but Uncle Piccolo says he isn’t another daddy.”

Mommy sighed. It seemed like none of them knew how to answer me. “What your Daddy and Uncle Piccolo have is special, but it isn’t the same as what your Daddy and me have.”

“But they laugh together and hold hands and everything!” I exclaimed excitedly.

“Yes, they do. It’s complicated. You will understand more when you are older.” I couldn’t see, but I could hear the smile in her voice.

“I will because I’m going to be just like you!”

Her arms squeezed me tight. “Like me?”

“Uh huh!” I nod so hard my pigtails bounce. “You’re super brave and kind. Like that time you stood in front of that big doggy to protect the little baby duckies.” I puff my cheeks trying to look as brave as Mommy did.

She laughed and it sounded like my music box. "Standing up for those who need help is very important. But you have to be careful too.”

"I will!" I promised, stomping one foot to show I mean it. “Because I’m also gonna be strong like Daddy and wise like Uncle Piccolo!”

Daddy came over and bent down to ruffle my hair. “Is that so?”

“Yep!” I bounced my head up and down. “Because my family is amazing!”

Daddy squeezed my leg with a huge smile on his face. “We are pretty amazing.”

I lowered my voice trying to be serious. “Daddy…I already asked Mommy and Uncle Piccolo, but why is Uncle Piccolo my uncle and not another dad?”

Daddy put his hands on my shoulders. He looked really serious. It made me nervous since he was usually all smiles. “In a way Piccolo kind of is like another dad, but…it depends on how you want to define what a dad is.”

“I love him the way I love Mommy. Don’t you love him that way too?”

“Not exactly. We have different kinds of love for different people.”

“Like how I love ice cream and Mr. Snuggles, but I eat ice cream instead of hugging it?” I asked, trying to understand.

“Exactly. I’m your Daddy because I helped make you, but Piccolo takes care of you just like a Daddy does. So, you can think of him that way if you want, but do you want to know a secret?” There was a hint of a smile now.

I nodded my head enthusiastically.

“Uncle Piccolo is a special name. That’s why he’s your uncle.”

I beamed. “It’s special?”

“Yeah,” Daddy said, voice sounding all soft. “That’s what I used to call him.”

There were still twisty tangles in my thoughts like how the strings got when I tried knitting with Grandma. I didn’t understand what Daddy meant by defining what a dad was, but what I did understand was that Uncle Piccolo was special and that his name was even more special.

“Then Uncle Piccolo is definitely Uncle Piccolo! And he’s the best uncle ever!” I declared.

Daddy’s smile turned all big and I could see Uncle Piccolo smiling too. When I turned my head, I saw that even Mommy was smiling. I had to be the luckiest little girl in the world to have a family different in all the good ways. I wanted to stay in that moment forever, with the sun shining down and laughter surrounding us.
