hey, so. funny thing.
@whinysteve and i have been going insane for like two days because we couldn't find this one fic we really liked, and we both remembered reading it not so long ago but somehow neither of us could recall how it ended? and we kept saying that it's so GOOD and how the heck did it just disappear? well, after hours of losing my mind going through my ao3 history, the steve/tony tag with various keywords, the findingstony blog... it. it hit me that i can't find it because it doesn't exist. because it was the soulmates au idea you posted like two weeks ago where their words only show up after they've met their soulmate.
i thought you might find this amusing. 😩 (i do, but i also need to lie down for a bit because i will never know how steve fixed that mess)
hahahaha omg liv if this is your way of peer pressuring me into writing the whole fic i might actually do it??? because your ask has got me thinking about what would happen next.
that said, steve still hasn't figured out how to fix this mess. i'm very sorry about this.
(stonyclunks soulmates au part one here)
---
having been rescued by SHIELD, news of steve's recovery was immediately delivered to howard stark who, while not as involved with SHIELD as he used to be, still receives weekly reports as one of its co-founders.
he'd gone home that night and brought it up in the middle of cutting his steak. coincidentally, tony had been visiting that day and stayed for dinner, so he found out about captain america's miraculous resurrection before the general public did, and honestly, he had enough of hearing about how great this guy was growing up. he really didn't need to keep hearing about it as an adult after he'd finally worked through his issues with his dad and his obsession with a (not quite) dead war hero.
so after howard's announcement, tony politely requested howard refrain from talking about this guy with him.
"i know he's your friend, and you'll probably be spending a bit of time with him now that he's been found, and i'm really happy for you, but i think it would be better for our relationship if we could talk about literally anything but him," he'd said.
and, well. howard was trying. he knew he wasn't the best dad and he also wanted to do right by maria, who spent so many years torn between her son and her husband while trying to mend their relationship. they were finally in a relatively good place with each other which made maria happy. and to be frank, howard had actually come to really enjoy tony's company whenever he was home. he was quite happy too. so he agreed. they don't talk about steve and howard doesn't ask tony to meet steve.
that very night, tony made sure 'captain america' and 'steve rogers' were muted in all his news feeds and social channels.
he literally doesn't know a single thing about the man besides what he learned in his childhood, which he's blocked out. it's a peaceful two years of blissful ignorance.
fast forward to now, tony's packing up his suitcase and getting ready to check out of his hotel when he sees a text from his mom in their family group chat.
seems he's not quite the perfect role model you always made him out to be, howard 🤡, her message reads.
what follows is a link to an instagram post, and from the message preview he can see that it's steve rogers' profile, and under normal circumstances he wouldn't even bother clicking the link.
but 1) maria usually never brings up the man in tony's presence either, and 2) her comment made him laugh. so color tony intrigued.
he taps the link and sees the post. it's a picture of a coffee cup from the place he was at a week ago. the one where he got body slammed by his mysterious dick of a soulmate and unfairly yelled at for it.
he reads the caption and his legs give out under him.
i don't even know if you'll see this, but all i can do is hope. i'm sorry for the words that have made their mark on you. i know i don't deserve it, but i'm hoping you could give me a second chance. i won't yell at you this time, i promise. yours, a fucking asshole
one week ago, captain america was barely even a blip on tony's radar and that's how he preferred it. now, steve rogers is tony's mysterious dick of a soulmate.
what the fuck even is his life.

“One of our suppliers has moved a little closer to home so we’ll be able to do work more directly with them, James I want you to be in charge of that piece,” George spoke directly to Bucky, who nodded in agreement. The weekly meeting of Barnes Inc. felt a little different this week after seeing you for the first time in so long. Seeing you at The Underworld, running into you on a date with Liam Stinson while at dinner with his parents, they all put Bucky in a downright weird mood. He’d been paying less attention at this meeting than he should’ve been but he couldn’t help it. Having you back in New York, and playing into the plans your parents had laid out for you, had Bucky’s mind reeling and his stomach rolling.
There had been many times over the last ten years that Bucky had regretted going about the issue with your parents the way he did. He couldn’t even count the number of times he’d kicked himself for not finding some way to talk to you before just disappearing. He could’ve told his dad, but then he worried that his dad would do something to provoke the Pierce’s and his family would get hurt, and then you’d get hurt. He could’ve tried to sneak a message to you to see how involved you were in your parents plans, to see if you had been planted near him to spill secrets and plans back to Pierce. But he didn’t. Instead, nineteen year old Bucky held onto the hurt he was feeling and let it fester deep inside, only opening up slightly to tell Steve the truth. Twenty-nine year old Bucky knew that he’d made a quick decision in a tough spot, and that it was a decision that would affect his life forever.
“Georgie Porgie Pudding and Pie, still kissing the girls and making them cry?” A voice rang from the doorway of the conference room after a brief knock. A voice that Bucky hadn’t heard in years.
“Anthony, it’s nice to have you back, my friend, but you know there’s only ever been one girl for me,” George spoke as he stood to shake hands with Tony Stark, a smirk growing on the latter’s face as he took in the room.
The Starks had been allied with the Barnes family for decades. After Howard had retired, he’d made Tony his successor and the connection with the Barnes family had been even tighter after they worked out a way for Tony to be their weapons supplier. Bucky had only found out at dinner with his parents that Tony had been working on moving back to the city, and that he was bringing you with him. Apparently George had been keeping up with your movements in the last ten years, and only part of the reason he’d asked Tony to move business back to New York was to have his supplier closer, the other was to bring you home. But George would never tell that to Bucky.
“Heard you’ve got a big shot corporate lawyer working for you now,” George joked, drawing Bucky’s attention back to the conversation at hand.
“Oh the best, you know it’s so nice to be back, but I’m not quite so sure she’s that happy to be back,” Tony was looking directly at Bucky as he spoke, making it obvious that he was aware of the reason why you left New York for California originally. Bucky held back the cringe that was threatening to make itself known on his face as Tony continued.
“But anyway, glad to be back. And in true Stark Industries fashion, there’ll be a welcome back gala this weekend, George old buddy old pal, you and the wonderful Winnie are both invited. I figured we should probably re-clarify to some members of the public…that we are in fact friends and occasional…coworkers.” Tony was speaking in code, something he did when he wasn’t sure how involved every person in the room was with the family.
“That’s a great idea, Anthony, but sadly Winnie and I will have to pass, it’s our anniversary this weekend. Thirty-five years,” George spoke fondly, “but, since James will be working closely with you as a liaison between Barnes Inc. and Stark Industries, maybe he could go in our place?”
Now THAT pulled Bucky’s attention back to the table immediately. George knew that you would be at the Stark Industries gala, there was no way you’d be able to skip out with a boss like Tony.
“What are you doing, dad?”
“Me? Nothing. I’m just making sure that the city is aware that Barnes and Stark are two closely related names, and what better way to do that than to send you in my place? You’ll be the face associated with that name soon enough,” George spoke as innocently as he could, making Bucky raise his brows in question at his father’s game. Steve was barely containing a grin at the situation that Bucky had managed to find himself in.
“Georgie, if I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’re trying to play matchmaker with your son and my lawyer? And let me tell you, that would be a very bad decision indeed,” Tony growled, seriousness lacing his tone as he took in Bucky and his family. Tony’s reaction actually made Bucky cringe this time, and Tony appeared satisfied by that betrayal of emotion, “oh yeah, Buckaroo. She told me everything. It would take a million years of groveling to pull yourself out of the hole you dug. Leave my kid alone.”
The whole room was frozen. Tony Stark wasn’t known to make random gestures of emotion, he usually preferred to stick with sarcasm, but the way he just spoke to the two heads of the Barnes family was proof to Bucky that he’d do anything for you.
Good. Someone’s gotta look out for her, he couldn’t help but think to himself.
“Understood, Anthony. Now, if we’re done here-,” George started before Bucky interrupted.
“Just make sure she leaves Liam Stinson alone. You know he’s no good, Stark,” Bucky spoke with a twinge of a threat in his tone, but Tony just laughed.
“You really think I can tell her what to do? You must not have ever known her at all, kid.”
The chair scraped across the floor as Bucky stood up quickly, his hands balling into fists next to him, Tony just quirked an eyebrow at him in a silent taut, but Steve just held his hand out to touch Bucky and calm him down, meanwhile George watched  all of this calmly from his chair at the head of the table. After a minute of awkward silence he cleared his throat, nodding his head for Bucky to take a seat.
“As I was saying, thank you Anthony. James will be there on Saturday and he will be on his best behavior, so long as you can promise you will be too?” George’s question was meant to show that while he respected the family’s connection with the Stark’s he wouldn’t accept future disrespect of the heir of Barnes Inc. next time. Bucky and Tony continued to glare at each other before both offering a nod and a half-hearted apology as the meeting drew to a close and members of the family began to file out. Before Tony could walk out of the room Bucky was approaching him, George just shook his head at the confrontation he knew he couldn’t prevent as he walked to his office.
“Woah there little Barnes, didn’t mean to piss in your cornflakes earlier. Good thing dear old dad was in there to keep the peace.”
“Tony, you have no clue why I did what I did all those years ago,” Bucky spoke, feeling the anger bubbling up inside him once more, when Tony was holding up a hand to stop him.
“I’m gonna stop you right there, Buckaroo. Because as far as I know, she doesn’t even know why you did what you did all those years ago. My question is, do you know what it did to her? It’s not my place to tell you so you won’t get a word out of me, but just know if you’re ever lucky enough and she decides to tell you in her own words, on her own time? Know that you’ve just encountered the strongest damn woman I’ve ever met in my life. See ya Saturday, Barnes. And I mean it, don’t fuck with her.” Tony spun on his heel, leaving Bucky and Steve to process his statement and his exit.
A low whistle sounded from behind Bucky as Steve walked up and clapped his best friend on the shoulder, “I’ve told you once, and I’ll tell you again. You fucked up.”
Bucky’s hands were tightening into fists again, this was a conversation they’d had multiple times. The one thing about Steve? When Bucky told him what he’d done? Steve flat out told him that he was the biggest idiot and had made the worst mistake of his whole life but that as his second, he’d listen to him.
“It was for the best and you know it. Why she decided to work for an asshole like Stark I will never understand.”
“Not so sure I ‘know it’ Buck, but I’ll let you keep living in that delusion. Now come on, we gotta make sue you’re all fresh and ready to go for this weekend,” Steve steered Bucky out of the room and as far away from Tony Stark with master precision, a skill he’d learned very well over the years.
The gala was the same as every other fancy party Bucky had ever been to. A bunch of rich people plying themselves with champagne and minuscule plates of food while stroking each other’s egos. Ever since he was a kid Bucky hated going to these events but he went because it was his job. He was the second-in-command of the family, and the heir of Barnes Inc., he had to make a good impression, which meant occasionally rubbing elbows with Manhattan’s elite. When you walked in the room it took all Bucky’s concentration to pay attention to NOT spitting out the champagne in his mouth. He watched you from afar, Steve would say he was being creepy if he was here, but he didn’t attempt to talk to you. No, Bucky was perfectly content with sitting in a corner, talking to whoever he needed to, and never speaking a word to you. Or so he thought.
Until he saw you being slowly engulfed in a small circle of rich assholes, your shoulders hunching up, and your knuckles tensing as they gripped the champagne glass in your hand. Bucky knew that stance, even if he pretended he couldn’t read your body language still, he’d only be lying. So he excused himself from his current conversation partner and strode across the room. As he walked up beside you he slid his hand across your waist, the warmth of your skin practically lighting him on fire, as he apologized to your company and drew you away to ‘dance.’
In Bucky’s mind, he thought of this maneuver as being doubly beneficial. He could get you out of an obviously uncomfortable situation, and then he could warn you off Liam Stinson. Easy peasy. Until it wasn’t.
Easy peasy until Bucky fucked up. Again. And said something stupid and tactless that made you pull away. With a final warning about Liam, Bucky knew his night was over. Walking back to his table, Bucky managed to keep an eye on you on and off throughout the evening. He noticed when you stumbled over your steps a little more and when you approached Tony and Pepper before heading out of the ballroom. Sam was accompanying Bucky tonight as his ‘chauffeur’ so he made sure to have Wilson stationed just outside the hotel where he could keep an eye on you, out of sight of course. It wasn’t until he received the all clear from Sam that you’d made it off site safely that Bucky began to relax. He replayed your conversation on the dance floor over and over in his head. Mentally hitting himself for saying what he did about “truly knowing you” the innuendo making him cringe as he took another sip of his drink.
When the night finally ended, Bucky straightened his coat and headed towards the door he knew Sam was waiting at. Halfway across the ballroom, he was stopped by Tony.
“What was that about, Barnes? I told you to leave her alone tonight and judging by the little stint on the dance floor you chose to blatantly ignore me,” Tony growled.
“Stark I was getting her out of the middle of the sharks, she was visibly uncomfortable.”
“Yeah and instead of the sharks the fucking Megalodon decided to take a bite. I swear to whatever god is listening, Barnes-“
“I warned her about Stinson, Stark. He’s not a good person. He’s obviously deeply connected to Pierce. You know this, I know this. He’s not good for her.”
“Oh but you are?”
“That’s not what I said and you know it,” Bucky spat, growing slightly more annoyed at the turn of the evening and just ready to go home, “I just needed her to hear that. It’s up to her if she listens.” And with that Bucky stormed out the door and into the night. Upon seeing Sam Bucky sent him to get the car as he leaned against the exterior of the Plaza and lit up a cigarette, the smoke filling his lungs and adding to the little buzz he already had in his head.
“Man did you see the tits on her? Can’t believe Stinson’s gonna be tapping that soon,” Bucky heard a voice exiting the hotel from behind him. A man walked out, talking on the phone as he waited for his ride, ending up right beside Bucky.
Bucky had tensed at the mention of Liam’s name, hoping that whoever the guy was talking about was just some other woman. His mistake.
“You think Liam’ll give me a go? I’d like to fuck that L/N bitch at least once, could you imagine those legs wrapped around my waist, oh fuck or even better those lips wrapped around my co-.”
The man didn’t have any time to react before Bucky was punching him in the face. Hard enough to draw blood. And he didn’t stop. Punch after punch made Bucky feel like he was releasing ten years worth of pent up aggression and anger. Bucky grabbed the man by the collar and looked right into the eyes of Caden Smith, the same guy who’d been dancing with you at The Underworld earlier in the week.
“Don’t you ever talk about Y/N L/N like that again or I promise you I won’t let you live,” Bucky sneered as he offered a final punch to Caden’s face, rendering him unconscious. A low whistle sounded from the curb as Sam pulled up and rolled the window down.
“What’d he do boss? Say you don’t look good in your tux? That’s a rookie move,” Sam teased until he realized that Bucky was way past a teasing mood, “Let’s move him to the alley, we can’t leave him passed out and bleeding in front of the Plaza. All the rich people’ll be clutching their pearls.”
Bucky helped Sam move Caden to the alley in silence, the car ride back to Bucky’s place was much the same. Even so, Bucky couldn’t help but wonder if he’d fucked up more tonight than he had ten years ago.
One Month Later
A whole month passed since the gala. Bucky had managed to send Steve to Stark Industries whenever there was legitimate business to be done in order to avoid you, but that wasn’t always possible. However, Bucky’d managed to do a good job at avoiding you. But just because Bucky Barnes wasn’t actively interacting with you doesn’t mean that he didn’t have people paying attention to your every move. About a week after the Stark gala Bucky learned that his father had been keeping tabs on you ever since he’d left you. George still hadn’t learned the reasons why Bucky did what he did, but he made sure to tell his son that he had his ways of making sure you were safe. Those ways mostly involved Tony and Pepper. Bucky learned that shortly after you’d made it to California, you’d started working in some capacity with Stark Industries. A part of Bucky felt relieved that for the last ten years you’d been under some sort of surveillance, but another part of him felt bad for making the decisions that led to you being in a near constant state of supervision. Bucky grew a little more content with the fact that Tony was so close to you, seeing that he and Pepper truly cared for you as if you were their own child made Bucky happy that you hadn’t been completely alone for all these years.
The problem now came with the fact that you had been spotted with Liam Stinson a number of times within the last month. Multiple dinners, outings, coffee meet-ups, Bucky was getting information at least twice a week about you and Liam fucking Stinson. Each time he received news that the two of you’d been spotted in public was like a knife to the chest for Bucky, but he didn’t have anyone to blame but himself. And he knew that. Some part of Bucky Barnes, deep down, knew that warning you off Liam Stinson would have the opposite effect and would likely draw you further into his arms. In fact, according to the intel he’d received from various sources, you were attending a party tonight on Liam’s arm hosted by none other than Alexander Pierce himself. The thought of you taking up the role your parents had bestowed upon you all those years ago made Bucky feel like he was two seconds from being physically sick.
It was late when Bucky sat at the table next to his father, Steve, and other members of the Barnes family as they spoke about the threat they’d received most recently Pierce. Apparently Caden had showed up at Pierce’s house with a black eye and a loose tooth complaining about Bucky beating the shit out of him the night after the gala. Why Pierce had waited so long to threaten them was already confusing him.
“James, what did I say about messing with the Pierce family?” George grumbled as he rubbed his head as if to stave off a headache.
“Not to. However, Smith was talking grossly about Y/N. I couldn’t let it slide,” Bucky snapped in reply.
George sighed, understanding his son’s anger, “son, I understand that but we can’t go starting a war with Pierce right now. Because that’s what he’s threatening if you touch any of his guys again.”
“What was his guy doing at Stark’s party anyway?” Steve asked genuinely confused as to why Caden was there in the first place.
“Rich family, Manhattan, blahblahblah, either way, we showed him that Stark is allied with us. If he wants to fuck himself over by helping Pierce start a war then let him. I’ll kill them all without fucking blinking,” Bucky growled, his mind replaying the words that Caden had said before Bucky attacked him.
George opened his mouth to respond but was cut off by a furious knocking at the office door. Before anyone could even reach for a gun the door was being flung open, a harried looking Tony Stark appearing before them. He let his appearance act as a warning before reaching out and pulling you into the middle of the doorway, your cheeks soaked with tears and your body seizing as you tried to take a breath. Bucky could barely catch his own breath at the sight of you sobbing and tucked under Tony’s arm.
All the oxygen left the room when Tony took a deep breath before growling, “Oh boys…we’ve got a fuckin’ problem.”

Iron man 2
Iron man 2 is a lot "cooler" film than the first. This film expands on the themes of the first by having tony learn to lean on other people and to face his problems head on. Tony stark is slowly dying and avoids his problems and falls into his old self destructive habits. During the course of the plot he encounters the son of one his fathers greatest rivals, hands off his responsibility, and discovers his fathers secrets.
One thing i should have mentioned in the first iron man review is the sound design of the suits and the overall movie. The sounds of the suits help to really sell these fantastical suits as something that could exist. All of the suits look great just like the past movie, and the vfx department does great just like the last movie. A specific thing i really enjoyed over the last movie where the fight scenes. In the last movie they weren't bad but until the end tony never really fought on fair ground. In this movie nearly every fight scene feels tense and like tony is battling another power house, and they still make every fight scene serve a story purpose.
Onto the story, It is pretty good however like the last movie the villains are underdeveloped. They do have clear motivation but tony and the movie never really takes on the fact his father deported an immigrant man just for wanting money. The movie does try to touch on this by having nick fury say "well Anton vanko helped by howard kicked him out when he tried getting rich on it" but howard did get rich. He didn't get rich off of antons work, but he got rich off of selling weapons to the american government. Which is (arguably) worse than getting rich off of energy technology. The movie sort of abandons this after that part of the plot halfway through. Justin hammer is a good villain, he's pathetic and only as developed as the story requires. The last "villain" is the senator who tries to get tony under some kind of supervision. However this is better talked about during civil war so i will save it for than.
Those are my only "real" issues with the movie, but i do have three minor things. The cameos. Bill o'reilly, Louis ck, and elon musk all make cameos in either this film or the first. I am disgusted that three men with abhorrent beliefs and who have all (allegedly) committed sexual harassment were paid to be in these movies.
Moving onto the things i do like, Tony's arc and his relationships. Throughout this movie tony tries to hand of what he does in his life. He gives his company to pepper, he gives a suit to rhodey, and he slips off to party. Both pepper and rhodey see that something is clearly wrong and tony isn't letting anyone in. It isn't until shield basically holds his nose in his own mess that he accepts any help. This arc will be fully done in iron man 3 but in this movie it is very well set up here. Tony's relationship with pepper is built on in this movie as he hands her the company and tries to help him. Rhodey and tony's friendship is weirdly better in this movie. it didn't feel lacking in the first but i just think don cheadle and rdj have better chemistry.
Overall iron man 2 is just set up for future movies with teases to the avengers, captain america, and just straight up having black widow. i enjoyed it more than the original purely because it has daft punk.

actually the most compelling part of tony and steve's relationship is that tony wants to be friends with steve for multiple reasons but one among them is howard was friends with steve and the daddy issues problems makes something in him go if i make friends with him that would gain his approval if he were here to give it.....and every time he's making headway in this endeavor and he and steve are on good terms u can see he's giddy about it. he's getting a good grade in howard stark etc. and then he immediately ruins it by the virtue of he and steve being ideologically incompatible and you see his face literally crumple. meanwhile steve is having these conversations without connecting these pieces at all and unknowingly trampling all over tony's ideas of both him and his father. delicious. u ever project ur daddy issues onto captain america when ur talking to steve rogers

What woke you up is Vers whispering and tossing next to you. She's been having nightmares the past couple of weeks that she can't seem to get away from.
"Vers?" you ask and shake her away, She gasps awake and looks at you with wide eyes. "Another nightmare?"
"Yeah," she whispers and sits up in bed.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Instead of responding, she clenches her fists in anger and frustration. They start to glow orange but before she can do much damage to her room, you put your hand over hers. You intertwine your fingers with hers and bring her hand to your lips where you place a kiss on the back of it. "I am always going to be here like you were for me. You made my life here easier, and I want to do the same for you."
"I know."
"Want to fight? It'll get our minds off of a lot of things right now."
"Let's do it," she grins.
You two get dressed and head to the training room to get in a good workout before Yon-Rogg comes and ruins it all. The beginning of the training session is as routine as it gets, but by the time you and Vers got used to working together, things got a lot more interesting. She runs at you full speed, and what you meant to do is dodge her and push her back. What you actually did was swing at her, punching her to the ground.
"I did not mean to do that. I am so sorry!" you gasp.
"It's alright. I slipped."
"I punched you in the face."
"I was already slipping when you happened to punch me in the face. The two events are not related," she chuckles.
"You know, you should try using your powers. I could use mine and we can fight better that way. You're never going to learn how to use them if you don't actually use them," you suggest.
Before she has a chance to even think about it, Yon-Rogg walks into the room. He's wanted you dead the minute you showed up on their ship six years ago, but the Supreme Intelligence says otherwise.
"Y/N, take a seat," he orders and walks onto the mat. You roll your eyes but do as you're told and sit on the bench so that they have the floor. "I heard you're having dreams again." They both get into positions and start sparring. He's clearly stronger than her and has no issue proving that to her because she always falls onto her ass. She has the power to overpower him but she never uses it. "Anything new?"
"No," she grumbles.
"You've got to let go of your past."
"I don't remember my past," she grunts.
He twists her arm behind her back and holds her there so that his mouth is next to her ear.
"It's causing you to doubt, and doubt makes you vulnerable."
"Bullshit," you announce, earning a glare from him.
He grabs her wrist when she goes to punch him, and he forces her to her knees in front of him. She raises her other fist and it starts to glow bright orange, but Yon-Rogg quickly shuts her down.
"Control it." She lets out a shaky breath and the orange glow disappears. "Lose control again and you'll have to convene with the Supreme Intelligence. There is nothing more dangerous to a warrior than emotion."
"Now that is some bullshit. You're just upset you don't have awesome powers like me and her. Vers don't listen to him."
"Speak one more time, and I'll have you put on probation with me instead of her," he threatens. Vers smirks in amusement, and Yon-Rogg pushes her back to get her attention back on him. "Humor is a distraction. Anger only serves the enemy."
He's quick to deliver a punch to her face, and she falls with a frustrated groan. Without thinking, she raises her fist and blasts Yon-Rogg across the room and onto his stomach.
"Yes!" you cheer. "That is how it's done! You can't keep something like that hidden! Blast him again!"
"See? She likes it," Vers smirks as Yon-Rogg gives you another threatening glare.
After a useless training session, you, Yon-Rogg, and Vers make your way to the Supreme Intelligence's office. It's located on the other side of town, so you have to take the train to get there. Since Vers used her powers without permission, Yon-Rogg wanted her to go speak with the Supreme Intelligence to get an update on her progress. If you go with them, maybe you'll get the opportunity to speak to the Supreme Intelligence. Ever since arriving on Hala, you've never talked to it--you were never given the chance to.
It's safe to say you're a little curious.
"Has anybody seen what the Supreme Intelligence really looks like?" Vers asks Yon-Rogg.
"No one can look upon the Supreme Intelligence in its true form. You know that. Our subconscious chooses the way they appear to us. It's sacred and personal. No Kree divulges it, ever."
"Who do you see? Your brother?"
"No."
"Father?"
"No," he sighs, quite annoyed.
"Your old commander?"
"Vers."
"It's me you see, isn't it?" she asks with a smug smile.
"I see what you're trying to do," he chuckles.
"Is it working?"
"Yes, but you won't succeed in changing my mind on the subject."
"What is the point of giving me these," she gestures to her hands to reference her powers, "if you don't want me to use them?"
"For once, I agree with her. She needs to use them if she is going to want to control it," you butt in.
Yon-Rogg rolls his eyes at your comment but keeps his attention on Vers. His attitude towards you is unsettling, but you refuse to give him the power he so secretly craves. It's no secret they want what's in your blood, and you can see through the bullshit welcome they gave to you six years ago. It took you a while to see it only because you were blinded by their niceness. He's been trying to access your powers for years now but you won't give it to him. The only reason you're still on Hala is because of Vers. Something isn't right with the way they're treating Vers so you can't leave now.
"You're going to use them. The Supreme Intelligence made me the responsibility of showing you how to use them."
"I know how."
"Well if that were true, you'd knock me down without them."
"She doesn't have anything to prove to you," you glare.
"Actually, she does and so do you. One word to the Supreme Intelligence, and I can have you back in the dungeon where you belong."
"Go right ahead," you challenge.
"What should I do then?" Vers asks, changing the topic.
"Control your impulses. Stop using this," he points to her chest right above her heart, "and start using this," he points to her forehead to indicate to her brain. "I need you to be the best version of yourself."
"You're fucking blind if you can't already see that she is," you mutter.
The train stops by the Supreme Intelligence's office, and you follow Yon-Rogg inside. The office is strangely neat like it's only here for show. It makes sense if no one has seen the Supreme Intelligence in its true form, so there is no need for someone to use this office. The walls of the office appear golden with pillars wider towards the top and narrowing towards the bottom. The floor has a hexagon lit up with a white light protruding from it. Vers steps onto the platform and tentacle-like wire immediately appears from below her feet. They connect to her legs, arms, and head.
When she closes her eyes, you know she's speaking with the Supreme Intelligence.
What would they look like if you were to speak with them? It takes on the form of the person you most admire, so who could it be? Steve? Bucky? Yondu? Peter? Your parents? Yon-Rogg coughs from the window, and you look over at him in disdain. Who is he really? What are his goals and ambitions? What does he want from you and Vers? Is he even to be trusted?
Vers gets done, steps off the platform, and walks over to you with a smile.
"They want to talk to you?"
"Me? I'm allowed to do so?"
"Their request, not mine."
You go through the same process Vers went through when you step onto the platform. Your eyes close briefly for a second, but when you open them, the room has completely changed. The wires on your body are gone and the golden walls have been replaced with endless glossy white floors. Lights descend from above and the Supreme Intelligence makes itself known.
"Y/N."
The Supreme Intelligence looks like a man you think you might know. The memory of him is locked away deep in your brain, but no matter how hard you try to think about where you know him from, nothing comes up. He has jet-black hair and ice-blue eyes. He's of slim build with green and gold armor on.
"Where do I know you from?" you ask.
"I'm not who you think I am," the Supreme Intelligence drawls in a British accent.
"Right, you wanted to see me?"
"I have to say, I'm disappointed with your behavior. I thought you would have learned by now to have some manners on Hala."
"I thought you would realize that unlike everyone here, I don't work for you. You called me here for a reason, and it wasn't to nag on me like Yon-Rogg loves to do."
"You're right, I called you here on behalf of Torfa where one of our own is being held captive. Yon-Rogg is going to be leading the battle to retrieve Soh-Larr. He was sent as a spy for the Skrulls but never made it back. Vers is going, and I know you two work together so well."
"Why are you telling me this? Out of all the missions you keep me from, you want me to go on this one. Why?"
"You want to prove your worthiness to us? Now is your chance. Come back with Soh-Larr, and I will personally see it so that the Kree never have to fear Xenians again. I know that's what you want. You want to be a part of this family."
"I didn't feel like a family the first time I was with the Kree. Do you not remember Ronan?"
"Ronan has been taken care of. Do this mission, come back alive, and your honor and bravery will be recognized. Or you can go back to the way things were. Your choice," the Supreme Intelligence smiles, already knowing your answer.
"I'll do it," you say without hesitation, "but I'm not doing it for you. I'm doing it for Vers."
"Then so be it."
The wires on your face and body shrink back into the ground as you're transported back into the golden room.
"Are you in trouble?" Vers asks.
"It wants me to go on this mission with you. He says that I can prove my worthiness if I get what they need."
"So, it's a he?" Vers smirks.
"Not the point."
"This is good, is it not?"
"There's something off about this whole planet," you mutter.
"I don't think you need to prove anything to anyone. I like you just the way you are," she whispers and pulls you into her.
You lean up and kiss her quickly since Yon-Rogg is still in the room.
"He's wrong, you know," you whisper so only she can hear.
"Who is?"
"Yon-Rogg. Take it from someone who knows a few things about suppressing emotions. It's not a good idea. It drives your mind to work against them, not with them. Battles are meant to be fought with emotion and reason, not robots. Don't listen to anything he says."
"I'll work on it," she smiles and pecks your lips. "Come on, we have a mission to get to."
This mission involves eight Kree members because the Supreme Intelligence isn't sure what you're going to walk into. Yon-Rogg isn't too happy to have you here, in fact, no one else is. Vers is the only one who wants you here but you're not going to let theme sour your mood.
The hanger with the ship you're boarding is large with its walls golden, and the entire team is wearing green and black uniforms.
"Why is she here?" one of the Kree members whispers to another.
"Why are you here? You're not the one with the powers," you glare at him.
"Don't listen to them," Vers whispers to you.
Parts of the details of the mission are laid out on the big round table but from what you gather, it's not looking too good. Skrulls, which are shape-shifting creatures that the Kree hate, are known to roam the planet Soh-Larr needs rescuing from. The planet is in shambles and the Kree think the Skrulls are responsible for it.
"This can't be good," Att-Lass sighs.
He's one of the snipers on the team with impeccable skills. He might not have powers, but he works magic when he handles a gun. Korath is the serious one of the group. He has a tiny white goatee, and he rarely smiled. Bron-Char has a white beard which looks funny compared to the dark contrast of his blue skin. Minn-Erva is the punk-rock of the group. She has a half-buzz cut and loads of dark makeup on her face. She's even a better sniper than Att-Lass.
"It must be another Skrull attack," Korath concludes. "Whatever it is, it must be big."
"Has a Skrull ever simmed you?" Minn-Erva asks.
"Once. It was deeply disturbing."
"Why?"
"Because I stared into the face of my mortal enemy, and the face staring back was my own," Korath answers, giving you a look of discontent.
Every single Kree is looking at you as if you're some kind of pest that needs to be taken care of.
"What are you looking at? I'm not a Skrull. Sure, I can shapeshift but my powers differ from theirs. Plus, I'm also an Avatar. There's more to me than shifting into someone, and I would never do that to any of you no matter how much you wish me dead," you snap.
"Well maybe if you were more attractive then it would be less disturbing," Vers tries to break the tension by making a joke to Korath.
"You think you're funny, but I'm not laughing."
"You never laugh."
"I laugh on the inside. I'm not doing it now."
"It's funny cause objectively speaking, you're quite handsome," Bron-Char says with a smile.
"Well, thank you."
"Listen up team! Knock it off," Yon-Rogg points to Vers as he enters the spaceship. A holograph of the mission and the people involved show up in the middle of everyone as he speaks. "Prepare for the search and rescue of our spy, Soh-Larr. The Skrulls have invaded yet another border planet, this time Torfa. Soh-Larr sent a warning signal which we've intercepted now that his cover is blown. The Skrull General Talos has sent kill units to find him. Should they reach him before we do, the Intelligence he has acquired over three years is as good as theirs. The Accusers will bomb a Skrull stronghold here in the south. We slip in, we locate Soh-Larr, and we get out. We are not to interfere with the Torfa population or them with us. Nothing compromises the security of our mission. Proceed with caution. Follow protocol before extracting him." The hologram disappears. "This is a dangerous mission. We must all be ready to join the collective if that is our fate today. For the good of all Kree!"
"For the good of all Kree!" everyone repeats except for you.

Fic: Theater Etiquette (1/1)
Title: Theater Etiquette
By: TriplePirouette/3Pirouette
Disclaimer: They're not mine.
Distribution: AO3 Anyone else please ask first :)
Story Summary: Steve and Peggy are in the audience for the first preview of Rogers the Musical.
A/N: Use your imagination as to how or why they’re there. I picture them young, but you can see them as older.
Thanks to @captainjimothycarter for finding me the full length Disneyland link so I could see this without having to make my way to California. It will help if you’ve seen it, for sure. YouTube has a few versions now.
For Steggy Week 2k23 Day 5: Missing Scenes and Favorite moments
Does this count? Maybe. Rogers the Musical was my FAVORITE part of Hawkeye, so I’m saying it counts.
For the record, I really enjoyed Rogers the Musical for the campy romp it is and I;m very sad I’ll likely not get to see it in person. I fully believe Steve and Peggy would hate it with every fiber of their being.
~*~
Steve squirmed in his seat as the lights went down and the announcer started talking.
“I’ve never known you to be so restless,” Peggy muttered, slipping her clutch to her side. “It’s just one performance, then we never have to think of it again.”
“Until they ask me about it in an interview, or it turns into a success and I hear the songs everywhere…” He groaned, dropping his head. “What if they make it into a movie?”
“People deserve to know your story.” Peggy let her hand slip over his, entwining their fingers as the lights started to swirl around the audience.
“That’s why I wrote a book,” he muttered, “and let the Smithsonian keep half my stuff.”
Peggy rolled her eyes, nudging him with her shoulder. “And what were you going to do with your 70 year old general issue boxer shorts anyway, hum?”
“…the one, the only, Starkettes!”
Steve huffed under his breath. “You’re kidding me. I don’t even get my own singers?”
Peggy squeezed his hand. “You know very well neither Tony nor Howard would have let the chance to name a group of female singers by them.”
“But Tony didn’t write this.”
Peggy shrugged as the stage brightened and the curtains opened, revealing a stylized USO club. “Just… try to enjoy this, can you?”
“I can’t,” he muttered. “Not when no one gets it. If they did they wouldn’t be stylizing war like this, like some fun, happy time.”
Peggy turned her head. “You know very well this is a musical, and it’s not like life on the home front was Les Miserables, anyway.” She looked him up and down, “Now, just try to be a polite audience, can you?”
He deflated, but nodded.
They sat quietly as the opening song continued, and Steve only groaned quietly when the setting changed to the Stark Club.
“This is not factually correct,” Peggy mumbled, eyebrows pinching together as she saw the woman playing her not only be in the scene, but punch a guy in the face.
Steve squirmed in his seat next to her. “I know.”
“I hadn’t even met you yet.”
“I know, Peg.”
She leaned into his space, whispering into his ear, “How much longer is this?”
Steve just dropped his head, shaking it. “Until intermission, or the end?”
~*~
Steve huffed. “Oh, Erskine never sounded like that…”
“According to his biography, that actor was last seen in a regional production of Cabaret.” Peggy lifted her eyebrows. “His accent still needs a bit of work…” she listened to the actress playing her introduce herself, “as does hers.”
They both cringed as the lights changed and high notes were sung at the introduction of Steve and Peggy on stage.
“It wasn’t like that,” Steve muttered quickly.
“Not at all,” Peggy supplied.
“You were much more intimidating.”
“And you were much more flustered and adorable.”
He pecked her on the cheek quickly, then turned back to the stage. “So, they name the Greek chorus after him, but don’t put Stark in this at all? He was a huge part of all this…”
“They’ve also skipped the part where Erskine was murdered in favor of more… spangles, my love.” She squeezed his hand gently. “I told you, not exactly Les Miserables.”
“No, more like propaganda.”
Peggy watched as the USO show morphed into a medley onstage. Streamers fell around them as her character came back on stage to Steve’s excited rant about his performances.
Peggy leaned into him, laughing into his shoulder.
“What now?” He asked, nearly exasperated.
“You were never that confident on stage, my darling.” She looked up at him. “Or as excited about it.”
“No, not in my Dancing Monkey Days.” He shook his head. “I recall that day being much more…”
“Wet,” Peggy supplied, leaning into him. “We were both soaked and muddied up to our shins.”
“Agent Carter, when I return, do you want to go on a date with me?”
Steve sputtered in indignation as Peggy tried to hide her laughter. “Dear lord, they’re butchering this.”
“How did they- why would they-“
“Just… try to ignore it, ok?”
Steve did, he watched patiently for a few moments as his life was distilled down into comic book tableaus and silliness. Until he stiffened.
“Does anyone copy? I’ve successfully taken control of an enemy HYDRA aircraft.”
“No,” he whispered under his breath.
“Who told them?” Peggy whispered, looking at her avatar on the stage, gripping Steve’s hand tight. “We kept this to ourselves,”
“It’s an Army sanctioned show,” Steve muttered. “This is in the official records. I thought they were classified.”
“Steve? Steve?”
Peggy turned, burying her head in his shoulder. “Of all the things for them to get right…”
Thankfully, Peggy didn’t have time to fall into old memories, because Steve leaned forward as the lights lifted on the stage again.
“Oh, good lord.”
“What?” Peggy turned her head, looking back at the stage, where a caricature of Nick Fury was bouncing and singing.
“He’s not going to be happy about that.”
“Not at all.”
Peggy watched with fascination as the man bounced across the stage in a manner that was so contrary to the man she knew as Fury she couldn’t help but be intrigued.
“This has to be on purpose,” Steve whispered, entranced. He watched as Fury started introducing Avengers, “I mean, Scott wasn’t even there for that, and we didn’t know about Bucky yet, or Wakanda…” His voice drifted away.
“How can they get so much wrong,” Peggy mused, shaking her head, “but get Saturday at 8 right?”
It was entrancing, though, and they fell silent as the stage turned into a New York street filled with rubble. Peggy couldn’t help but notice Steve’s foot tapping along to the Act 1 finale.
As the lights came up, Clint turned around in front of them. “You guys are literally the worst, you know that, right?”
Steve and Peggy just eyed him.
“I had to turn my hearing aid off.” He moved his hand to his ear and flicked t back on. “Chattering away like no one was around you.” He shook his head, standing. “Just because this horrible mess is about you guys doesn’t mean you get to talk through it. Remind me never to go to the movies with you.”

Scintillation, Chapter 3
First of the month, time to update some fics since NaNo has ended…
Title: Scintillation, Chapter 3
Fandom: MCU
Pairings: Tony Stark/James “Bucky” Barnes, Erik Killmonger/T’Challa, one-sided Steve Rogers/James “Bucky” Barnes
Fic summary:
Everything changed for Tony Stark in a cave in Afghanistan.  For years he’s been dealing with the fallout of the shrapnel imbedded in his chest—both physical and mental—in his own ways. He’s got an arc reactor in his chest and demons that stalk him in his mind as he becomes Iron Man and eventually an accepted part of the Avengers during the attack on New York City.
All he has to do is keep giving people what they want.  That’s the lesson learned.
Die, resurrect, live as much as you can. Wash, rinse, repeat.  He thought he’d known why he was the way he was… but he and everyone else missed one tiny little detail caused by his repetitive brushes with death.
Or, a guide coming online as he almost dies yet again at the hand of a friend shatters the controls put upon the Winter Soldier and sends Sentinel James Buchanan Barnes fully online and into a feral rage in the middle of Siberia.
Steve’s lucky T’Challa’s there to rescue him from his best friend gone feral.
Tags/warnings: MCU canon levels of violence. Howard Stark’s A++parenting, panic attacks, PTSD, unhealthy coping mechanisms, Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt, will eventually have bonding sex (and other explicit sex acts for enjoyment—no rape), issues of consent with Sentinel bonding with a guide to save their life, Sentinel/Guides are known, spirit animals, Discussions of racism (T’Challa, Erik and Tony have some talking to do), interrelationship and partner violence mentioned, Discussion of child neglect (Tony and Erik) and poverty (Erik, Steve, Bucky), Not Kind to Steve Rogers (eventually he gets better), other tags to be added later—will warn at top of chapter if not listed here although I feel like Erik is his own kind of warning.
Tumblr media
T'Challa wakes before Erik. He exhausted his sentinel last night, pushing them both to the point where there hadn't been any residual resistance in their bond, which hums strongly between them.
That lingering resistance had been maddening. A constant tug and irritation that he didn't have his sentinel fully because they'd been interrupted before they could complete the bond like they had last night.
He shouldn't have listened to his mother or Zuri for so long—he'd hurt his sentinel with his reticence. The one thing an orphan from California hadn't needed from his true-match guide was hesitation because he wasn't one of them.

Captain America and the double-edge blade of “Context” from the outside perspective.
So... here’s the thing. The MCU, being a movie, allows us to have and add the context of Steve’s thoughts and beliefs to his actions. The framing of the movies and plot tell us to believe that Steve is “the good, moral man.”
But this is just telling us what Steve believes and what the writers believe. Anyone that’s consumed media can tell you that it’s really really easy for writers/directors to accidentally portray their characters in a way that sends a message that they hadn’t intended on.
And the message that they accidentally conveyed? Steve may unknowingly be a Hydra sympathizer or a fascist sympathizer.
(Not a Nazi sympathizer, which is...close, but specifically a Hydra one.)
That’s sounds horrible, right? Super way off base?
And it IS. That’s kinda my point. They didn’t mean to make it seem like that, but in universe, it would be stupidly easy for any journalist to make that case, regardless of whether or not it’s true.
PEGGY CARTER
Steve’s first love was Peggy Carter. Steve and Peggy are actually strikingly similar to each other, disenfranchised (due to health issues/stature and gender, respectively) trying to prove themselves and needing power to do so. They are both very quick to disregard the law, up to and including committing treason, when convenient to pursue their goals.
It’s important to note that it’s to pursue their goals, rather than just saying to do what’s “right.” Steve committed treason in his multiple attempts to join the army when actually being allowed to do so would have only gotten him and anyone trying to defend him killed. He didn’t need to join the war to help with the war effort. It’s just wanted he wanted for himself (Bucky - “Sure, because you’ve got nothing to prove...”). Peggy, despite no evidence and Howard Stark being her “friend”, decided that Howard intended to use Steve’s blood for nefarious purposes, so she stole the vial, which IIRC was part of government research since SI is a military contractor, and destroyed without so much as talking to him about it first. Supposedly because she didn’t want Howard to profit off of it, never mind any ways that those samples could have help the medical field or the army.
They would both go on to lead their own Stark funded organizations - SHIELD and the Avengers.
Which leads to the next big issue. A desire to have or retain power.
SHIELD should be self-explanatory. Needing their fingers in every pie, secretive, breaking laws left and right to get things done, monitoring and capturing enhanced if they don’t work for SHIELD, etc. SHIELD’s policy’s reflect Peggy Carter’s desire for control of as much as she could get her hands on. There is no reason for SHIELD’s existence outside of not trusting anyone else to get the job done “right” and her distaste for the lack of trust/respect that she got from others in the spy/government community.
Steve ran into the same problem with the Avengers, the unwillingness to let go of his own complete control over the team once the accords came calling. There is something to be said that, of all the people in that initial meeting, the ones considered most intelligent (a super spy, a literal rocket scientist, a genius engineer/most prolific CEO in the world outside of Pepper Potts, an android with the entire wealth of knowledge on the internet at his fingertips) all agreed on signing the accords.
He turns them down but when given the option again, in order to avoid the first sign of real consequences for his actions coming down on his head, he nearly takes it. He only turns it down based on a weak excuse (Wanda’s “internment” in the sprawling compound. He fought in WWII. He should know what real internment is. Tony’s baffled response about her basically being “grounded” makes more sense than internment considering the size and amenities of the compound, Vision’s presence and the fact that the team frequently refers to her as a kid), escapes the moment he has a chance and continues on.
Which brings us to the next point, and also something Steve and Peggy have in common.
WANDA and ZOLA
This is actually where the real issues start.
Both Peggy and Steve recruited a known Hydra agent into their ranks with minimal to no real oversight.
SHIELD has a habit of recruiting people based on their “usefulness” rather than their belief in the cause or their goodness of character (I could go on a long rant about SHIELD’s really shitty record when it comes to asset management, but that’s something for another day).
They both trusted their own judgement on these people. Their trusted their own judgement on their new charge’s character, on their ability to handle or control them, etc. And neither are the types to actually fully acknowledge being wrong, as stubborn as they are.
So, despite committing outright atrocities (Zola was experimenting on soldiers in Austria - Bucky happened to be one of the few/the only one to survive that. Wanda unleashed the Hulk on Johannesburg just a day or so before), both were welcomed into the ranks with the slate wiped clean. Zola allowed enough freedom to work directly with Howard Stark and to make something that allowed him to upload his mind onto a computer. Wanda was running missions with Steve, against Hydra, despite being “untrained.”
And, of course, the moment those two were not looking, the world was visibly paying for it - Zola’s Hydra infiltrating SHIELD and the Winter Soldier’s missions, Wanda’s entire thing in WandaVision.
Apparently, fucking half of SHIELD turned out to be Hydra. That’s... that’s honestly an appalling level of incompetence for the so called spies of spies to have missed that, okay.
There is also Steve’s immediate sympathy towards the Maximoff twins in AOU. Something that Maria Hill herself notes as kind of off base, even if she doesn’t make a big deal about it.
Steve, of all people, shouldn’t be sympathizing with twins’ joining Hydra to supposedly protect their country. Not less than one year after the clusterfuck in DC. He should be baffled. He should be shaking his head at people that would compromise themselves in that way.
He should NOT be looking at a pair of willing Hydra agents and seeing himself in them.
(There was no coercion there, they were not tricked. Wanda can read minds and... you know, they were sent after the Avengers.)
(I remember that conversation, that moment, being when the Shine of Captain America, who I had loved in TFA and TWS, started to wear off, and it just got worst as the movie went on.)
And then, Steve, the enemy of Hydra, takes the word of these actual Hydra agents who tried to kill their team yesterday over that of his own team and attacks them when they are in the process of creating Vision.
With no proof outside of Wanda’s word. The word of someone that has no problem admitting that she hates Tony Stark (and would thus have a motivation to lie to turn his team against him). The word of someone that unleased the Hulk on hundreds of innocent people - made worse by the fact that she likely didn’t know about the Hulkbuster armor.
But it’s okay, because Steve trusts her and she totally helped them out in a crunch! (To save her own life and the country she supposedly loves. But not to save South Africa or Seoul, because fuck ‘em, right?)
Steve also, in hiding the truth of the Stark’s deaths to protect Bucky, protected the Hydra agents that ordered the hit in the first place.
And lastly, he returns to live out his life in the past (disregarding all the warnings of not doing shit like that). Steve returns to the past and, despite being the touted enemy of Hydra, presumably ignores the decades of atrocities (against the world, against two supposedly close friends, against SHIELD) that they would go on to commit. He lived and slept peacefully despite knowing full well that Bucky was being tortured. He turned a blind eye to the death of a man he once called a friend, the corruption of his company and near murder of his son. He allowed his girlfriend/wife’s life work to be corrupted by Hydra and didn’t say a word.
STEVE’S FRIENDS (AND THE PEOPLE HE WORKED WITH)
This is the last point. It’s not as damning, but it’s... an itch.
There’s Bucky Barnes - unwilling Hydra agent. He has minimal to no real culpability for his crimes considering all of the brainwashing. It’s more that having your girlfriend and your best friend both have ties to Hydra is pretty awkward.
The STRIKE team. Steve spent somewhere between 1-2 years on a team comprised solely of Hydra agents with the occasional Natasha as his team. While not buddy-buddy (which he wasn’t with anyone at this time), he was friendly with them. They were his colleagues for almost around/longer than the Howling Commandoes were. There is a strong chance that they had some influence on him. You don’t spend that much time with people and pick up nothing from them.
Natasha. For better or for worse, Natasha is a former Russian Red Room (partnered with Hydra) agent that defected to become a SHIELD (partnered/influenced by Hydra) agent that is well known for being duplicitous as a habit and job. One who then compromised the entire US government and its relationships with other countries by dumping all of SHIELD’s secrets (and the secrets they had on other countries, no doubt) online. And of all the people that Steve could have trusted/gone to, he chose her. Whether this was good or bad is irrelevant. My point is that it looks bad.
Sam. (I love Sam and Anthony Mackie, he was the best part of that movie outside of the fight scenes, honestly.) Steve had known Sam for all of three days before going to him for help with defeating Hydra. He just so happened to have the file on the Falcon wings in his home for reasons. And casually agrees with committing treason alongside these two (in stealing the wings and everything else that happened in that movie). Sam could have been a Hydra plant (just as Sharon was a SHIELD plant) sent to watch him. He didn’t know who to trust but called on Sam of all people, assuming he had no ulterior motives.
-----
As an aside and final note, Steve’s ability to shift and eventually wield Mjölnir is touted as an undeniably “proof” of Steve’s goodness, which... it’s blatantly not in a way that’s baffling.
Setting aside Thor’s genocidal past (since the spell was placed after that), both Odin and Hela are capable of wielding the Hammer. Hela is...well, still entirely genocidal. Odin’s arc in his movies are mostly about his lies to his sons coming to light, his own genocidal past, and him considering humans to be like lowly animals and Jotun to be monsters.
Being “worthy” is a nebulous concept. Is it being a good person? Is it being worthy of holding the throne of Asgard (a notably warrior/blood-thirsty race of aliens)? Is it being similar to Odin (a list of traits that Odin specifically wanted in his son, for good or ill)? We don’t know!
Remember, despite Vision being the first of the team outside of Thor to fully lift  Mjölnir, his opinions on what the “right” thing to do have little to no weight in the next movie.
------
“Good becomes better and bad becomes worse,” is the saying for the Super Soldier serum. Abraham Erskine offered the serum to Steve because he wanted a “good man” who could become a better man. After all, look at what happened with The Red Skull.
But... that’s a sample size of one.
So, how does Erskine know that that’s the case?
Or that it’s mutually exclusive.
What if good becomes better and bad becomes worse? What if both the good traits and the bad ones are amplified? What if Steve’s good traits were amplified enough for him to not go all in on the evil side but his bad traits (stubbornness, need to prove himself/be important/have control, his lying to suit his needs, etc) are also increased, leading to string of bad decisions that are worsened by the fact that almost no one actually takes him to task until really late in the game as a result of decades of propaganda?
What if Steve is only considered a Good Man because the writers/story say he is?

Veteran single dad Steve runs a tattoo shop. Pepper arranges for Tony to get that tattoo he always wanted, and he winds up with the mother of all crushes instead. Jumping out of airplanes is one thing, but love requires real courage. Steve struggles with letting someone into his life. Tony tries to keep his heart intact while Steve works on his issues.
this must be one of my fav stony fics if not my fav of all times! in this fic, i see the "lost" theme applied to steve and his mental health; to the way he's beginning to lose touch with reality and how that threatens to make him lose two of the most important people in his life (aka petey and tony) is just so well written i'm- seriously, it's a masterpiece.
homefront by copperbadge
Steve Rogers is a capable leader, a kind and cheerful man, a good friend, a strong role model, and a loyal soldier. He's also teetering on the edge of suicide.
copperbadge is my comfort fic writer of all times, so of course i was going to rec this masterpiece! they way he describes steve's mental health and how close he's to losing all will to live is heartbreaking and amazing at the same time.
catching lightning in a bottle by @sabrecmc
College student Tony meets janitor Steve at MIT and they fall blissfully in love, until Howard happens and things fall apart. One divorce paperwork snafu courtesy of the ever-helpful Jarvis, and ten years later, Tony has to get re-divorced from Steve.
This does not go as he imagines.
Or, the Sweet Home Alabama AU that no one--well, okay, a few of you--asked for.
i love everything sabre writes, but this must have been my most reread fic in the whole stony fandom without a doubt. the way it deals with steve's health —both physical and mental— is really, really great.
trapped in the shadows by @geeky-writes
All Steve Rogers wanted after a lifetime of war was to immerse himself in quiet, and solitude. Opening a bookstore seemed like the perfect answer. He could escape to any world that he desired, all while keeping his past firmly behind him, where it belonged.
Until the day Peter Stark walked in.
this fic has one of the most heartbreaking scenes i've ever read in the stony fandom, and the fact that steve's so utterlo lost in that scene tells you everything you need to know about why i've included it here <3 seriously, everything geeky writes is gold, but this specific portrayal of steve and his pstd is *chef's kiss*
there's a place by arabellaam
If someone had told Steve just a few days before that he would end up adopting his neighbour's child, he would have dismissed that as a bad joke. Sure, he had been spending more and more time taking care of Peter since his aunt had fallen ill, but that didn't mean he was going to do something that drastic.
But then again, if someone had told him he would be forced to look for a new job and end up meeting Tony Stark in a broken elevator precisely because of that... Well, he would have laughed.
Yet, that's exactly what happened.
i thought i'd include this fic here too, since i tried to make justice to tony's mental health state post-IM1 and i like how it turned out. whenever i talk about mental health in my fics i try to shine a light on how we tend to think we're alone, when in truth our greatest streghth is the people we surround ourselves with <3

Quote
Fury leaned back in his seat. His good eye roamed across Tony’s face. “Then you know what we do.” “I know what you say you do—hell, I believe you actually believe in what you do.” “Your father believed in the same.” “My father, Devil rest his ornery soul, was a paranoid alcoholic so traumatized from early childhood poverty and anti-Russian sentiment that he grew up to be a controlling, obsessive, emotionally absent man so hopped up on his brand of toxic masculinity that he worshipped an icon of American nationalism and neglected his only child in the process. This, of course, left said child with a barrage of psychological issues. That report you have on me was surprisingly detailed. This is why I quit therapy the first time, by the way. Some people are only in it for the money.” “Goes to show how little you can trust anyone.” “Which brings us closer to why you’re actually here. How much can Tony Stark be trusted? Obadiah Stane turned out to be a bad bet—how much influence did he have on Tony Stark? Am I warm?” “Eh, pretty warm.” “I mean, I already know because I have your texts to Maria Hill pulled up. You should sleep more, Director.” Fury’s poker face was a thing to be admired. “I get it,” Tony continued. “I was the exact same. But marriage changes a man. Leave the phone at its charging station and set a firm bedtime and, oh, I can’t believe I’ve lived any other way. I’m sleeping like a baby. When I’m not doing other things. That was innuendo, by the way.” “I’m aware, Stark.” “Let me ease your fears, Director. We are both very busy men. My father provided SHIELD with his time, technology, and resources freely. I respect that. That shit’s yours. But while you’re using said tech keep in mind it was my father’s and I’m well aware of how it works. On top of that? I’m much smarter than he ever was. Your teams of scientists and techs are boring me to tears. And your head scientist Hernandez does good work but his math got a little sloppy in regards to Howard’s iteration of repulsor tech. Tell him to tighten up.” “I’m so sorry to hear that. I’ll let them know to do better. I can’t abide slackers.” “Same. You know, I actually sort of blame myself for this snafu. I’ve been slacking off myself these past few years. Partying, drinking, drugs…man, I was something else. But this past year has showed me just how lazy I’ve gotten. Physically; mentally.” “Is that a threat? In addition to the others you’ve given during our conversation.” “Oh, no, no. That’s a promise. You’ll find me very focused in the future, Director. Deadly focused.” They stared at each other over the metaphorical chess board between them. Fury moved. “…Self-improvement is important.” “So important. By the way?” Tony slid a thumb drive across the desk. Fury eyed it. “Seriously? I’m already reading your emails just take it.” “What’s on it?” “You got a very bad infestation, Director. Take a look and you’ll see I am the least of your worries.” Fury nodded. He turned the drive over in his fingers and the usb seemed to vanish into thin air. “Holy shit you have got to show me that trick. My little girl would love that.” “This has been enlightening, Stark.” “Happy to be of service.” “But I wonder if your father would approve. You must know we’re not the enemy.” “You’re not my friends, either. Besides, my father had a lot of faults. I’m a little jealous, though.” “Oh?” “Even though Howard worked his way up to become a millionaire, I find this story to be even better: it’s one of an Alabama sharecropper scraping together every last cent to his name to send his eldest to the esteemed Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. Healthy family dynamics-so inspiring. That son was very lucky.” Finally, a twitch. Tony leaned his chin on his clasped hands. “Keep my father’s name out of your mouth, and I’ll keep yours out of mine.”
Have Time — Will Travel by flower-of-el (NibelungVelocity)
This is literally the first time I see any backstory for Nick Fury.

Mun and Rules Post!
Hello, my name is Castor and I am transmasc/enby. My pronouns are he/they.
I had a very elaborate fancy blog which you can still access but I run things mostly from mobile now, which is why I felt the need to write this updated information.
This is a semi-selective, independent Doctor Robert Bruce Banner/Hulk blog. I have multiple verses and timelines, some based off MCU, some based off Earth 616, and alternate Earths from the Marvel comics. Also, I have a lot of AUs, and am always open for more. This is the oldest Bruce Banner RP blog on tumblr, that is still consistent.
Mun has over 25 years of RP experience. Mun is neurodivergent. Basic rules apply as does any blog. No god modding, etc. I do not own any rights to these characters and have no connection to Marvel personally.
I hate that I have to add this, but as stated I am neurodivergent. Due to a recent incident of someone on tumblr, I’m adding this to my information. I never bug anyone for threads, I hate when it’s done to me. But I like to say hi and check in on people. Now, if I say anything or do anything that might have offended you, rather than blocking me outright I’d appreciate you being an adult and telling me the issue. If you just block, I’ll never know what exactly happened that maybe I can take into advisement for future behavior and conversations. Recently, I’ve become more afraid to talk to muns, afraid my divergence is bothering people, afraid I’m a terrible person. I went down a bad spiral because of what happened. So please be mindful I am neurodivergent. Let me know if I’m annoying or coming off a certain way, and maybe I can fix it. ^^
This blog will contain many NSFW prompts. I do not put anything under read more. I try to tag nsfw if I remember. There will be no trigger warnings. This blog will contain things like self harm, alcoholism, severe depression, and suicide. As far as smut I will not write any that is not of age. Bruce is pansexual and demisexual.
Shipping: I like to ship chemistry but everyone has their favorites. Mine are in no particular order: Tony Stark/Bruce Banner. James Bucky Barnes/Bruce Banner. Howard Stark/Bruce Banner. Steve Rogers/Bruce Banner. Thor/Bruce Banner. Doctor Strange/Bruce Banner. Emil Blonsky/Bruce Banner. Loki/Bruce Banner. Yondu/Bruce. Betty Ross and Caiera should be a given. These are just off the top of my head, as I welcome Chemistry ships. I will not ship Bruce/Natasha. In my opinion it wasn’t believable and was Joss Whedon’s fan fiction come to life. My Bruce blames Nat for Ragnarok, and he knows she’s been a liar and a manipulative person since day one. You throw your Nat at me in a sexual way, you will be blocked.
I also welcome non ships, like platonic friendships, and even children, adopted children, family although it depends on who.
I do like writing open starters, I’m always reblogging memes, and feel free to attack both my inbox with messages and maybe a few words to just RP and plot. If you end up reblogging a starter and I miss it feel free to let me know! And with that, flood my inbox with goodies!
I also have a Phil Coulson blog @iwatchedyouwhileyouslept , and I have an Israel “Izzy” Hands blog from Our Flag Means Death @izzyeffinhands as well as my new blog, which is a multi-muse blog for Black Sails @fornassau .
*NEW* @talostheuntamed for Talos from Marvel.

Was Maria much younger than Howard? I read issue 3 of I AM IRON MAN and the panel Tony and Maria on the beach … she looked young but in gillen run .. she was Howard age no? I know it’s insignificant but I’m curious
Hi, anon! I think different writers/artists depicted the Starks differently so it varied from time to time. The first time Tony's parents were shown in a comic (during Bill Mantlo's run), it doesn't look like Howard was much older.
Tumblr media
In Len Kaminski's run (issues #285-#286), where we got to find out more about them as people & parents, Howard looks older than Maria. Maybe she dyed her hair, though, and maybe he looked older due to his alcoholism. I don't think it was ever addressed.
(warning for typical Howard Stark unpleasantness)
Tumblr media
In another issue of Kaminski's run, they were both depicted with grey hair.
Tumblr media
I think that later writers changed a bunch of things about the Starks (I think Gillen & Slott depicted Maria as a bad mother? It's been a while since I read those runs).
In International Iron Man, where the page they referenced in I am Iron Man is from, Howard is definitely shown to have been much older than Maria so I think overall that it's a very strong possibility.

random probleems y/n stark had to work on
R probably has a habit of acting like a rich brat because growing up people only ever treat her as tony daughter so she kinda just become like "fuck it you want a bitch ill be a bitch"
Whenever this happens she tends to use the phrase "im a stark what you expect" after all both Howard and tony had playboy/asshat reputation so alot of expected the same from r
R struggles with finding their own path alot because they are a stark she often questions whether she just a shadow of her dad
R rarely got emotionly close to someone for this reason there are a couple exceptions but over all very closed before coming a avenger so she had get used to being vunerable
R has abandonment issues if the lack of her bio mom didn't cause it seeing tony almost die and just do dangerous things will have done the trick
r helped nat get over bruce but while doing so they both fell for each other but made it very clear that as much as she wants nat she needs to get over bruce first r probably only had casual/semi serious relationship up to this point and they know that just isn't gonna work with nat cause their already very close
R and nat fights were alot about nat toxic behaviour nat was taught her entire life she was black widow a object only good for missions so she probably has habits of acting like a flirt and sometimes shoves feelings aside even r at times so it definitely was a work in progress but they got there eventually
r has a hard time not putting a "show" for people its become second nature to them because of all the media attention she grew up with
(Yeah pure angst full here because its 4 a.m and all i think about is how i was crying at my graduation ceremony because my mom complained i didn't get it right the first time and didn't show up and how my friends are better at loving me then my own family as you can tell i have selfworth issues)
WHAT THE FUCK BRUH THIS IS BETRYAL YOURE SUPPOSED TO SUPPLY THE SEROTONIN NOT ANGST 😭
hmmm i refuse to accept the nat/reader/bruce part cuz i headcanon nat as a lesbian so i say br*tasha never happened and no one can stop me 🥰
hmm but i do like the idea of nat and reader helping each other with some putting down their walls/defense mechanisms
oh wow, i'm sorry bestie :(

Blood Brothers AU - original post
Tumblr media
((If I'm being super honest here, Anon, I have thought about that a plethora of times, and I think it could work because they both are very intelligent and techy and can be sassy and sarcastic yet kind and very considerate and kind and funny and all that jazz.  And the argument could even be made that there is enough of a physical resemblance between them in the MCU for this AU to be very plausible.))
((hold onto your horses, Anon, because once I get going, it's hard to stop - keep in mind I'm also messing with timelines too because I can))
((Read the whole AU thoughts under the cut))
I've always pictured Tony's mom and Scott's dad getting together and ta-da! Tony came first then Scott.  Maria always wanted her boys to be close, and Charlie (my name for Scott's dad who is a Stark in this AU and Howard's son to help keep with ages, timelines, and Cap's WWII era stuff) decided it would be funny to have the boys share a middle name because of that.  Maria thought he was joking, but when she checked Scott's birth certificate, she couldn't help but roll her eyes and bow her head.  Anthony Edward Stark and Scott Edward Harris Stark.  Born barely under four years apart, they became pretty close.  Even when Tony showed his superior intellect and went to college really early in life, they were still close.  Tony *would not* go to college unless Scott could go too or at least be close by, so Charlie moved his crew closer to the school so the boys could be together.  Scott still had some self-confidence issues from his big brother being *that* much smarter than he is, but he tries not to let it get the best of him.  Rhodey became a big brother to them both, and good God are they a handful together.  But Rhodey wouldn't have it any other way.  They're happier that way.
Stark Industries is still a thing, and Dec 6 is still a thing too, and it devastated both boys because in this AU, their parents were actually good parents and the family was happy.  Instead of banding together to get through it, they kind of split ways for a time.  Tony became more like the Tony we're introduced to in the first Iron-Man, and Scott moves to California to start school at CalTech and also starts delving into some burglary, partly because he was helping someone out without being a *Stark* about it and partly because he wanted to see if he could get away with it.
Jump ahead where Tony is head of Stark Industries and is soooo in love with Pepper and Scott's married to Maggie and they had Cassie.  Scott's not a fan of how his big brother turned out and what his dad's company has become, and Tony misses his kid brother very much but is too prideful to say anything right now, so they're still kind of on the outs.  Tony gets kidnapped, and Scott just *freaks*.  Pepper informs him of it, and he just has flashbacks to losing his parents and thinking he may never see his big brother again.  (both boys have major panic and anxiety issues from it before either of them ever get PTSD).
Tony's gone for like 7 months, and Scott turns down any offers to take over Stark Industries.  He's not interested in that line of work, and he gets really bad vibes from Obadiah anyway.  Meanwhile after 4 months of Tony being gone, at VistaCorp, Scott gets bad treatment because he's hella smart - smarter than all his coworkers - and because he's a Stark.  Tony's rep has followed Scott there, and it sucks.  Then Scott finds out about what VistaCorp is doing and he handles it exactly as we know he did and still ends up in San Quentin for it.
Tony comes back, starts the Iron-Man gig, and turns Stark Industries around.  He hears about his kid brother's escapade, as well as the divorce, and tries to reach out and show he's changed and that he's different now.  But due to unfortunate circumstances at the prison, Tony's messages don't get through, and Scott hears about Iron-Man through the news.  Not exactly how you want to hear your brother is alive and back, but whatever.  Scott hopes to hear from Tony, but because of those unfortunate circumstances, he never hears from Tony and believes he's been shunned because of being in prison.
Then the Avengers happen while Scott's in prison and then all the Ant-Man stuff happens like how we know it does, and after Tony hears that a piece of equipment was stolen from the compound by a guy who shrinks, he watches the video footage of the fight, and low and behold who introduces himself to Sam?  His kid brother Scott.  So Tony says *alright enough's enough* and he flies to San Francisco and confronts Scott then and there.  The two make amends at last and all is well.
When Civil War happens, Scott actually knows about the Accords and not just about the other Winter Soldiers (which is all he knows about in the movie.  Cap recruited him just for that part, and he had no idea about the Accords or why he was even fighting the other Avengers in the first place).  This time Scott knows about the Accords, and he's torn because he sees both sides of the issue.  He doesn't want to be in the middle of it, and his identity is still not public for Cassie's sake even though Tony's is.  Cap still recruits him to go to Siberia and he goes because it's the right thing to do, but when Tony and the others show up to stop them, Scott doesn't want to fight against his brother, but he doesn't want psycho assassins that Cap talked about free to roam either.  He tries to talk to Tony, but Tony's hands are tied because of the Accords.  Tony blames Cap for putting Scott against him, and then the airport fight blows up.
Siberia plays out like normal with Tony learning the truth and going up against Cap and Bucky.  Tony tells Cap he needs to set the record straight and he and Bucky need to be the ones to tell Scott.  Despite everything else that's happened, Cap agrees, and when he breaks the rest of his crew out of the Raft, he tells Scott the truth.  And Scott's just blown away by it.  It really really stings because he looked up to Cap, and even fought against Tony for him, and then this bomb is dropped.  Cap apologizes for him and for Bucky, but Scott definitely needs time to deal with this.  Not only does he feel like Tony won't forgive him for being on opposite sides of the fight, he feels now it was all for nothing.
Scott's house arrest deal works the same way in this AU, and Tony spends a lot of time in San Francisco with Scott and Cassie.  Scott apologizes for everything, and so does Tony and they make amends.
Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp happen the same way.  Endgame works the same way too except the Avengers actually get to see the Stark boys in their element, and they find it fascinating, comical, and rather charming.  They tease, they bicker, they "play" in the lab.  They stick up for each other, they tell embarrassing stories on each other, they'll talk and talk for hours about whatever.  They're clearly comfortable with each other, and even the time spent apart had never really hurt their strong bond.  Scott spoils Morgan, and Morgan adores her Uncle Scott.  Everyone can clearly see the Stark boys were better together than apart.
Tony survives Endgame of course, and the brothers are closer than ever.  And, ya know, they all lived happily ever after.
