I've been really busy, so I haven't been able to write anything I've wanted to in the past little bit. Regardless, I'd really like to expand on the concept of Trans Morris and my HCs revolving around him. They've been sitting in my brain for a while, and I'd love to share them with the audience.

Word Count: 1.5k! CW/TW: uhhhh not sure what to put here but Has themes of self doubt, dysphoria, and less upbeat societal stuff around the beginning OH ALSO UNSAFE BINDING IS BRIEFLY MENTIONED.

- I see Morris as a Trans guy who experiences dysphoria. (He/Him) - I imagine he first realized he didn't align with his agab as a young child. He realized he had more of a connection toward masculinity and toward other boys, but it never really clicked until he was older. All he knew was that he didn't like wearing anything overly feminine, and that he preferred to wear his hair up to make it look short. I imagine as a kid he’d pitch an utter fit being forced to wear any kind of dress, but it was just brushed off as him being a defiant kid. - Its not that his parents wouldn’t have been supportive, they just didn’t understand what his issue was, and were left even more confused when kid him tried to explain it. - He went through his teen years knowing something was off but never quite understanding what it was. There weren’t answers for him in any of the books he looked through, nor were there answers around him. It was isolating. It felt right being mistaken for a guy when his hair was up, and it felt mortifying when people corrected themselves. But it shouldn’t have. Why did it feel like that? - He was raised entirely oblivious to LGBTQ+ identities. After all, he was raised sometime in the late 80s/early 90s. Identifying as anything within the community was still seen as a taboo, so to say. He had heard about it in passing, and even heard about it in a somewhat positive light from a few people, but was too nervous to look into it himself. For every positive thing he heard, there were dozens of negative things. I heavily HC this man as having been bullied. It was terrifying to him. He was terrified of the possibility of being something that wouldn’t be accepted. Of something which was such a large part of other peoples’ existence being something that caused his more turmoil. A part of him felt like he was just looking for attention, and the other part felt like it’d be a dead end and that he’d end up worse off than he already was. He’d likely look into it too much and mislabel himself. Self doubt! Confusion! Imposter Syndrome! - Sometime in his teens he started feeling horrible dysphoria and ended up giving himself one of those choppy botched haircuts on numerous occasions. - Dysphoria hoodies were practically an everyday outfit. If anyone asked, he’d just tell them that hoodies and sweatpants were comfier to be in. - He fell victim to the bandage binding trap. He wanted to try to use anything to hide his chest, and so, he tried to bandage bind. Obviously after a bit of trial and error he realized this was an outright horrible idea and stopped bothering, resorting right back to the hoodie grind. - He started fully transitioning sometime when he was in his 20s. - He had absolutely no idea what the fuck being trans was, nor what how he felt was considered. He was nervous over bringing up how he felt, as it seemed entirely alien. He felt like it wasn't worth bringing up to anyone, and that it was in his head, really. If his parents didn’t know what he was talking about, if none of his peers understood, then clearly the issue was him. Right? He didn't know what transness was until he caught a conversation from a coworker within his department about it and realized their experiences and emotions aligned with his.

- Bro was standing there in his Joja apron thingy like :O.

- He didn’t confront them about it or anything, but knowing someone else felt similar to how he did was enlightening. It felt like there might’ve been people out there who understood his experiences, and that he wasn’t alone. There were people like him, and they were thriving.

- Eventually he’s able to find more information and resources pertaining to his feelings and he looks into LGBTQ+ identities as a whole. This is when he’s finally able to seek gender affirming care for himself, and also be able to better understand himself as a whole.

- The day this man started binding a weight was seemingly lifted off of his shoulder. It was more difficult for him to find a binder at first due to his size, but when he did… He stared at himself in the mirror for a solid 10 minutes in disbelief. It was his first ever experience with gender euphoria, and he could have cried on the spot.

- Coming out to his parents was another weight off of his shoulders. Well- after the long-winded explanation he had to give. His parents weren’t unsupportive, but they were entirely clueless like he was. It took a lot of examples and carefully expanding on concepts for them to finally start wrapping their head around his identity. They’re still a bit confused, but they’ve got the spirit!

- He actually let his mom help him with figuring out his preferred name! His dad rushed in to give his own input and ultimately they decided on his current name as one he liked :3

- Pre-T his voice was lower on the register, but after taking testosterone his voice noticeably changed. He didn’t have to force a lower voice when speaking anymore. Of course, he did end up making it a habit to force a higher voice around people he didn’t quite trust anymore. At least until it was difficult to.

- Adjusting to testosterone injections was… not fun! I don’t headcanon he necessarily has a fear of needles, but he does hesitate every fucking time he gives himself a shot if there isn’t a distraction around for him to focus on. - bro has definitely done his T shot in a dingy ass joja restroom before

- I personally headcanon that even as a lower ranking Joja Employee he didn’t have much of anyone to speak to, so there wasn’t really anyone for him to come out to aside from his parents.

- He worked overtime constantly so that he could eventually afford top surgery.

- Post OP was even better than he could’ve imagined. After getting over the soreness of the procedure and resting for as many days as he could before the Joja demons wrangled him back into work, he stared at himself in the mirror and just grinned. Seeing himself the way he had always wanted to look was everything he could’ve dreamed of and more. He felt sheer gender euphoria and if it wasn’t for the fact that he was still sore as hell from surgery he would’ve probably pranced around.

- He was able to walk around his house with a shirt off more often, if not, almost all the time during the hotter seasons.

- Over the years I imagine he grew into his identity more and came to be really proud of who he is, and what he’s been through. Though, he still prefers only bringing his identity up to people he can trust. He’s still skittish over the thought of being chastised by others and still worries about the possibility of being outed to someone he can’t trust. Hate him for being a corporate drone, don’t hate him for who he is!

- He still experiences dysphoria, but it isn’t even remotely as bad as it was in his younger years. He can still be found in blanket-nests on the off day though, and he’s definitely snuck into a hoodie after work on numerous occasions. Why doesn't he wear a hoodie during work hours, you may ask? He's a FORMAL man who craves FORMALITY and STYLE. Removing his suit on work hours would be like removing a part of his soul, it'd be embarrassing stepping out and being seen as so informal for once.

- He looks at his surgery scars fondly, thinking of how far he’s come and how much farther he’ll inevitably come. - Coming out to any friend he makes is ultimately nerve-wracking for him, but he always says it with such a prideful, soft smile. - Despite being more discreet about his identity, he would 1000% be happy helping younger trans folk figure out their identities and help them grow into themselves. - He's not the best boss in the world, but by god is he great when it comes to inclusivity and making sure everyone is heard and accommodated and heard on that department. He's the guy who would absolutely risk his job yelling at some executive over their backwards ass views. Yes, he's a corporate suck-up, but he's not a big enough one to let that slide. - Bro absolutely reps that tacky Joja Brand Pride Merchandise every pride month. (and all year, for that matter. pride is an all year affair and hes letting it be known no matter how awful the mug is) - Eventually, with a lot of hesitation on his end, he openly comes out as trans and is greeted with just about nothing but support from the acquaintances he has. It took him by surprise for sure, but he could've swore he viewed the valley in a much softer light that day, and even moreso post community center. - After this, he's able to go to the beach topless, which was one of his longtime future goals. Not only does it feel reaffirming, but its the marking of him fully coming into everything regardless of his age. Plus, no longer would the days of a tank top and socks and sandals remain!

Thank you for the ask, I am a cisgendered woman so I know that might not be an easy question to ask someone like me but I will do my best to describe how I would feel like the Papas would react...

(In general for transmale/transfemale)

Nihil

He's absolutely fucking clueless. So much that he doesn't even know what being trans means. Sister has to explain it to him multiple times before he fully grasps the concept. At that point, he honestly doesn't care and has a laissez-faire approach much like he has with the rest of his parenting.

"...Soo uh...what's that mean?"

Primo

Primo is very kind and compassionate. He offers his child everything he knows when it comes to spiritual transition and is happy to help in any way he can with any physical transition that may need to occur through spells and magic.

"When and if you're ready my child, I will commune with the spirits to help us on your journey."

Secondo

Secondo is very surprised by this. He loves his child and will continue to love them very much but he's not good with change and has a harder time with coming to terms with things. He does accept them for who they are and does eventually work it out. Until then however, he struggles with pronoun and name changes. Often accidentally, and without malicious intent, misgendering and dead naming his child until his Prime Mover finally gets his ass in shape.

"When will sh---he learn to listen to his elders?"

Terzo

He's completely fine afterwards and honestly he tells them he knew all along. He is very much like Primo about the whole thing. Encouraging and willing to help his child in any way he can.

"I already knew and will love you no matter what. This doesn't change anything between us."

Copia

This is hard on Copia, but not in the way you might think. He would break down and cry. He worries about the implications of his child being trans. About the way the world will treat them and about his need to protect them at all costs. He knows what it feels like to have been an outcast and treated poorly throughout his life. The thought of his children being on the receiving end of any type of hatred would drive him absolutely mad. He would of course love them unconditionally and be supportive of them as always. He would however always have a lingering worry about their well-being. Adding many more stressed filled, sleepless nights to his repertoire.

gonna drop my thoughts here bc im thinkin abt it a lot but my transmasc ass cannot help but project SO HARD onto faramir

hes second borne of denethor, obvi, and denethor views his place as a woman absolutely useless in succession. he favors boromir bc he believes boromir will actually amount to something, whereas faramir will not. faramir grows up watching his elder brother train and be taken around by their father, meanwhile he must sit and be a pretty face in the background.

eventually, he asks boromir to train him. Boromir, being the beloved elder brother he is, does so. faramir is absolutely ecstatic. he wants everything boromir has and more, but it is not out of pure jealousy. he cannot place the feeling he has in his gut every time hes seen not as a young boy, but as a young woman. he’s miserable, and he wishes above all else to be seen exactly as his brother is.

he voices these thoughts to boromir, who responds with something along the lines of “then if you wish to be, you are as much a brother to me as any other man in this city, if not more-so.” they discuss many things, such as names and if to tell their father. boromir says to do so, and faramir agrees on the basis of more than just boromir acknowledging his true self. when they do, denethor is.. not pleasant! he only agrees to these “ridiculous terms” because boromir refuses to listen otherwise.

faramir proceeds to spend the rest of his childhood as a boy would, with the shadow of his father constantly looming over than him. he looks down upon everything he does, using every small mistake as an opportunity to point out his sex. no matter what he does, denethor will find anything and everything to berate and belittle him for. he must do everything boromir does and 10x more in order for denethor to even acknowledge his existence in a way that isnt entirely negative.

once boromir is dead, it doesnt get any better. denethor has no reason to respect faramir now, and just resorts back as if boromir had never told him. most people dont even know who the hell denethor is talking about because everyone just knows faramir as faramir, but he doesnt care. faramirs given up on ever trying to gain that level of respect from his father.

he meets eowyn, who is ALSO TRANS!!!!! they understand each other on a level no one else anywhere in their lives could. he finds so much comfort in her he gets weak fucking knee’d. they talk for hours and hours and by the end of it faramir is so enamored with her he cannot imagine a life without her. t4t farawyn is literally everything to me rn

ALL of my current Shakespeare trans HCs in one post??? I am going to try...

Hamlet:

Hamlet- he/they, transmasc (afab) (I’ve talked about this theory a few times, and I like it a lot for a variety of reasons! See my other posts.)

Ophelia- she/they, ftnb (projection. PROJECTION!!!)

Horatio- either mtnb he/they OR everybody’s token cis friend (Non-binary Horatio makes for 1. a beautiful t4t couple/throuple if Ophelia is here too and 2. a fun story about Horatio’s gender crisis upon meeting Hamlet. Token cis friend Horatio is just funny. Hamlet and Ophelia discuss their shared genderqueer experience and Horatio gives them a thumbs-up like “I don’t understand this but I love you.”)

Laertes- she/him, genderfluid. (I saw Laertes played by a woman the first time I saw this play and now that experience has combined with all the masc Laerteses I have seen to create genderfluid Laertes.)

Rosencrantz- he/they, mtnb (Their name shortens to “Rose”. There is no way he’s cis.)

Macbeth:

Malcolm- they/he or they/them. I cannot decide which direction they’re trans in. (I am generally very attached to Malcolm. Maybe I’ll write a post about this later because there is way too much to say here.)

Lady Macbeth- she/they (Lady Macbeth would insult you for “having pronouns in your bio” but would also hit you for using their pronouns incorrectly.)

I HC like all the minor characters in Macbeth to be trans in one direction or another (not for any good reason, I just think they should be) so trans Macbeth characters speedrun: Caithness- she/they, transfemme; Angus- she/her, transfemme, Ross- he/him, transmasc.

Twelfth Night:

Sebastian- he/him, ftm (Explains identical twins of different genders and I like the complexity it adds to his relationships- see my other post.)

Viola/Cesario/Vi/Visario- they/them, ftnb (Again, this explains the twin thing and I really like the idea of Vi using their identity as Cesario to explore their gender.)

Antonio- he/him, either ftm or token cis man (Similar to Horatio, you either get a great t4t pairing or a slightly confused cis man pulling a guy out of the ocean and inadvertently getting a lesson about trans people.)

Maria- she/her, mtf (Literally no reason, I just think she is transfemme.)

Much Ado:

I haven’t read this one in a hot minute, but Beatrice is a she/they icon.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Puck- they/them (Fairy gender doesn’t work like human gender, but they’re queer even for a fairy.)

Moth- she/they (Fairy gender things. Honestly, this goes for all Titania’s attendants.)

Titania- she/they

Oberon- he/they

Peter Quince- he/they (literally no reason, it just works)

Helena- she/her, transfemme perhaps (maybe he/they Lysander also?)

Romeo & Juliet:

I saw an all-trans/nb production of this play and now pretty much everybody is trans.

Romeo- he/they, ftm (t4t R&J!!!!)

Juliet- she/they, mtf (t4t R&J!!!!)

Mercutio- they/he, probably performs drag shows in his free time (the queerest person in this play, I love them.)

Juliet’s Nurse- she/her, mtf (Transfemme elders deserve love)

Oh same I headcanon character as trans in the other direction as everyone else it's so annoying sometimes because you go on ao3cand gou're like oh yes 20 fics! Neat! And then oh no that's not what i was looking for.

Exactly!! Not long ago I was turning the internet around trying to find just ONE trans girl headcanon or fic about a character and there is a ton of fics about this character as a cis man, a cis woman, a good amount as a trans man, and even a couple as agender but zero as a trans woman. It just doesn't exist. And it's like am I literally the only person on earth who can see the thematic potential? The way it would tie things together and give a common denominator to things that were definitely random and unintentional in canon but create a whole picture when looked at from this angle? The delicious directions the story couldn't otherwise develop towards and that would make the story peak in a way it hasn't before? The ways the themes and storylines that are already in there would culminate under this idea? Maybe I'm just coming from a totally different perspective than most because I'm always thinking about every story and character this way. I don't really do "nice headcanons". I'm always on a quest for the ultimate one, the one that simply can't be another way when it finally dawns on me where things are coming from and where they are going.

Heh, sorry I got a bit intense with that.

I actually didn't know about the menstration = blessing horses lore! That makes a lot of sense why Wukong would get mad at Heaven for giving him such a role. I can imagine him learning of this superstition from another stablehand, and just quiting on the spot. Especially when he learns that "female" roles and jobs aren't valued as much as "male" roles in the Jade Court (based on imperial china).

Then after letting him back in; they gave him the same job as a"Peach Maiden" - just with the title scratched out like he wouldn't have noticed. -_-

Primates like monkeys go through menstration like humans; meaning that Wukong likely has a great deal of knowledge of how to treat the symptoms just by growing up around so many adoptive mothers and sisters. I feel in his time at the palace, he made many female friends just by being attentive to them when they were due.

And since many wild monkey species (especially macaques like Wukong is supposed to be) are matriarchal; it confuses Wukong even more that women in the Celestial Realm aren't given the same level of respect as men. He probably has insulted the Emperor by asking to speak with the Queen Mother before him; "Let me speak with your Woman King. What do you mean "women don't rule"? She's clearly the one in charge. What sort of troop is this?"

So when the pilgrims openly accept Wukong as male, he's so happy he could explode. It also gives him more confidence to explore how he expresses his gender indentity through transformation.

While macaques dont have as obvious dimorphic traits as humans, I feel like Wukong's chest is more obvious than Macaque's is. He's not ashamed of his chest at all, even if it has grown along with his "dad bod" + pregnancy. Monkey Yao simply do not have the same hang-ups about breasts or menstration than most humans/celestials. Macaque is more shy about his chest cus he raised closer to humans and celestials norms also it's for Wukong's eyes only.

An interesting piece of lore! One of The Monkey King's permanent injuries was a stab in his breastbone/collarbone during his capture by Erlang Shen:

From this lore, I hc that Wukong is actually missing a breast, or one has been heavily scarred over. I feel like he jokes that Erlang "owes him a new boob" in good humor. Or jokes that he "bets his last titty" on something.
