Another post about TransTape
I decided to stop reblogging the same thread because it was getting really long and just make a new post. Here’s the original. (I should mention that I identify as a trans man now!)
I’ve been using TransTape for about 2.5 months now. Every time I apply it, I do it slightly better. I’ve understretched it (final result: hm, looks like tape on a breast), overstretched it (final result: it’s slowly tearing my skin open over a period of days, awesome (don’t worry, it wasn’t that bad, I’m mostly just being dramatic. Also while it was on there it looked awesome, super flat. Beauty is pain)), and every type of doing it wrong in between. I was reading this blog by a trans man and he mentioned that he used TransTape for years and continuously found better and better methods, and I think that’s going to end up true for me too. However, I’ve gotten good enough at the moment that this has become my primary binding method. This is how my application looks nowadays:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As compared to me in a sports bra and a binder, respectively:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pretty good, right? And all the same benefits I’ve talked about before: extremely comfortable, no rib squeezing, can leave it on for multiple days, can sleep in it, having bare shoulders/back. It doesn’t really itch noticeably anymore. And the application in that pic isn’t overstretched, it’s perfectly comfortable. It’s my favorite application so far.
Some more notes I’ve ended up with:
- When you’re applying the tape, don’t think of it as “I’m using the tape to pull my chest into place”, think of it as “I’m using my hand to pull my chest into place and then using the tape to secure it”. Still stretch the tape while you’re using it to secure your chest, but take your tensionless anchor parts on both ends very seriously. Made a huge difference for me, way less overstretching and way better results.
- Recently I’ve stopped doing the alternate methods discussed in my previous post and gone back to the original way they show in the videos. I think pulling your chest to the side is more impactful than pulling it up in the overall look of it, and whatever you do first will have a greater impact. The biggest reason I didn’t want to go horizontal first was that my vertical piece would pull on my skin and make a wrinkle of it that folded over my horizontal piece and that was super uncomfortable, but turns out that’s just a symptom of overstretching/not taking the anchor part seriously enough and making sure it’s attached with no tension to both your skin and a small part of the previous tape.
- I tried the medium size instead of the large. I think if I was going for optimal results it (or even small size) would be best, because I can use three total pieces of tape and get another bite at the apple of pulling my chest to where I want it. However, I’m more going for comfort/not a giant hassle putting it on, so I prefer my two pieces of large tape at the moment.
Random thoughts:
- I love that I can take my shirt off if it’s hot or during sexy time and feel like a shirtless guy, not a person with a mildly uncomfortable article of clothing still on. This is enhanced by the fact that the nude color is a pretty good match for my skin.
- I have an appointment about HRT in Aug, so I’m really hoping it’ll cause my chest to deflate a bit and then my binding will be even more rad!
Feel free to message me with any questions about my experience :)

Binding
Binders
I found that Spectrum Outfitters worked best for me (prices range from $50-$39). I also have binders that are older and stretched out or that don’t work as well (like gc2b) that I use when I don’t need as flat of a chest because they are easier on my rib cage lol. If you do that, do NOT count that as a break!
Practice safe binding!
Don't bind for more than 8 hours
Don't sleep in a binder
Don't exercise in a binder
Get the right size
Try to only wear a binder for 5 or 6 days a week (this one is hard, I know)
If it hurts, take it off!
If you notice bruising, something is wrong! Your binder might be too small or you may be wearing it for too long.
TransTape
Wearing binders all the time is not too good for you so I recommend using a variety of different binding techniques. One is TransTape!
The reason Ace bandages are unsafe is because as you breathe it gets tighter and tighter and can really hurt you. But TransTape doesn't do that, it's like the tape athletes use when they sprain their ankle or something. It's safe as long as it is used properly. Plus, you can wear it for up to 5 days, exercise and sleep while wearing it, and it's water proof!
TransTape isn't the only brand of course, but they do have a lot of great resources.
Learn more at their website here. I recommend starting with this page and the FAQ.
KT tape is another option if you cant afford/arent allowed to order TransTape. You can find it at most drugstores and box stores for relatively cheap. The adhesive isnt as strong as TransTape, keep that in mind when applying.
Men's Compression Shirts *I have not used these myself (yet) but I hear they work pretty well*
Made for cis men with gynecomastia but hey we can use em. Obviously will work much better for smaller chests, but could still do something for bigger chests, maybe for under a hoodie?
They won't flatten you as well as binders but the goal is more to masculinize the shape of your chest than to completely flatten it. They are also safer than binders.
Other stuff
The color black will make you look flatter
Layers! Lots of layers! (don't overheat)
Sports bras
Compression bras
Button ups <3333

pro tip for my trans tape wearers: if you're like me and you take it off way too fast sometimes because you didnt shower before applying so it was itchy and you finally got tired of it but was very impatient in the removal and now your skin is all fucked up, SLATHER VASELINE ON THAT SHIT!!!
basically i removed it wayyy too fast so my skin is red and irritated and dry. usually when this happens, it takes about a week to heal. right now it's day 2 and the dead skin is already peeling off and the itchiness is GONEZO
so invest in baby oil and vaseline thank u for coming to my ted talk

transmascs please help
I'm a genderfluid person with breasts and I would usually rather not have them. I have both a binder(secondhand, size L, old GC2B ~2019?) and trans tape, and have used them both with moderate success, but neither of them exactly make a masculine chest shape. I've accepted that I will never look totally flat, but I'd like for my chest to not look feminine.
Most of the advice I've seen online for "large chested" people is for up to a DD/E cup, or occasionally a DDD/F. I'm an H, I have a 10 inch difference between the widest point of my chest and my ribcage directly under it. Any advice? I'm especially looking for recommendations of binder brands or configurations of trans tape that work particularly well for large chests, or just any way to minimize the look of my chest with minimal damage to my health.

im doing my own research and stuff of course but @ people who bind with transtape/other kinds of safe binding tape: opinions, thoughts, resources on how to learn how to do it? i'm considering investing in transtape because my binder and compression top are 1) murder in the florida heat and 2) can't be worn when i bike, which i have to do frequently because i don't have a car. there are other reasons, but those are the big ones. have you found it to be worth it? is transtape good or do you prefer other brands?

Binding for newbies
(This is not a comprehensive list and your welcome to add if i missed anything)
SO! You want to bind your chest, well your in luck i have some info and tips so you have somewhere to start off!
The 2 ways im familiar with binding is by using transtape and a chest binder.
Ill be talking about:
- What they are
- The pros and cons
- Application/usage (and removal)
- And the potential dangers
transtape:
is a tape made from cotton and spandex that you apply to you chest, you cut two strips that you apply on your boobs and then pull your boobs out to each side. Youll find it in rolls like this
Tumblr media
Chest binders:
are a vest that compresses your chest. Theyre a very popular method of binding. They’ll typically look like this (you can also get a swim binder)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pros!
Transtape:
- is great for shaping the chest into a masculine shape! It’s incredibly customisable because you cut the peices yourself and decide how flat you want it.
- It can be worn for up to 5 days! You can work out, shower, swim and do practically anything with it on and itll stick! Itll get a little icky after those days but you can enjoy your flattened chest for a whole week!
It usually comes in a range of skin-colours to match or you can get fun patterns and colours!
Binder:
- its much quicker to put on and its an easy everyday solution
- many say their chest feels flatter with a binder
-feels very secure because of the pressure
- its just one purchase that last years!
Cons
Transtape
- When you take it off your skin is sensitive and in my experience my nipples are very sensitive
-if applied wrong it can seriously irritate the skin, so the proper application method is a little slow
-its all about practice so you might not get the flatness you want on your very first try
- you have to continuously buy some instead of it just being one purchase (make sure to cross reference so you dont have to way wayyyy to much)
Binder:
- you cant do any sports because you arent able to breathe like you should. I mean it, do not do sports with a binder. (You can get a specific swim binder though)
- it can get dangerous if you where it for more than 8 hours a day
- its a bit tricky to put on and take off
- get sweaty so you have to wash them
Application/usage (and removal):
So the most important part about binding is doing it correctly, but its often hard to find info on what not to do and what to do, so I’ve compiled everything you need to know.
Transtape:
Application is tricky and i find writtten instruction is basically useless so i found some great video tutorials on how to apply it!
Small chest:
youtube
Medium chest:
youtube
Big chest:
youtube
And a very important part is taking transtape off again, now i have personally commited the cardinal sin of just ripping it off, dont do that you will fuck up your skin. Instead you have to lather the peice of tape in oil (any oil is good, i use coconut) and lather the whole thing so its very saturated, then wait a 1-3 minutes for the adhesive to let go and then peal it off. If you feel its sticking to your skin still, put some more on and pull softly.
And heres a video for good measure:
youtube
In general the TransTape youtube channel is great for info about transtape, so definetly check them out if you buy some. Their website also offers transtape, nipple covers and oil.
Binder:
Binders are a lot quicker to put on as its just a vest, but its tight and its a bit tricky so if you can get someone to help you on your first try id recommend that.
Now there are a few important things to know about wearing binders, so you can wear them properly and not fuck up your ribs
1. Make sure to get the right size, this is very important for your chest health (your website should have a measurement chart)
2. Never wear it longer than 8 hours
3. Take a minimum of 2 break days a week (as in dont wear it) I usually do that in the weekend.
4. Never double bind, as in wear two at once, and never wear a tight sportsbra over or under it to make it flatter, again you will fuck up your ribs and you cant fix that.
5. If it hurts take it off, I know dysphoria is an incredibly tough battle but your health is more important. I believe in you <3
6. Never and i mean never do sports with a binder on
7. Wash it! it gets sweaty and stinky over time so definetly wash it. I wash by hand with some warm water and delicate laundry detergent but your specific binder should have instructions on how to wash it on the tag.
Dangers:
Both of these methods sadly have some downsides, but they are avoidable if you use them correctly
Transtape:
can irritate your skin if you put it on wrong, it gets itchy and if you scratch, you can cause sores, which then means you cant wear your tape till its healed. Ive tried this and it is a HELL so put it on properly!
Binders:
Are dangerous because they compress your entire chest and that means your ribs and all the important organs inside em, so when buying i binder make sure to buy yours size and if youre in between, buy the bigger one, under no sircumstance should you but a binder that is to small, it can seriously harm you.
When your ribs are bent, you cant unbend them and they will hurt when you sleep and breathe so please wear it correctly
All in all thats it! I sadly dont know every website for binders and transtape out there but these are the ones ive used (theyre DK specific)
Transting (for binders)
Peech (For transtape)
if you know of any other websites you trust your welcome to add them!
I hope this was a help on your journey with gender expression and euphoria, i love you, I believe in you and happy fucking with gender out there <333

Okay so with 3 applications of Transtape and 4 applications of generic Walmart Kinesiology tape...
I can now 100% honestly and earnestly tell you to not waste your money on Transtape for open binding.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only thing Transtape has going for it right now is:
the fact they have wider sizes with a cap on the price increase to help plus-size users be able to afford it (which is important!)
the fact that they come in nude colors.
But a single small roll of Transtape cost $12.99 on top of shipping which is around $6 and up depending on your location, which comes out to $20 for a single roll, and the small rolls are 3" wide and 16.5 feet long.
Meanwhile at Walmart you can get a 2" wide by 16.2 feet long rolls of their Equate tape for $5 (and name brand through $12 without worrying about paying an extra $6+ dollars for shipping)
Other than the cost being 4x cheaper than Transtape, what are the other benefits of using Kinesiology Tape?
Again. The cost. It is 4x cheaper to get generic Ktape at Walmart than it is to order Transtape.
Wide variety of colors, including nude color options depending on what brand you use if you're not just getting generic black from Walmart, especially if other stores in your local area carry different brands.
Most ktape comes in precut strips-- this is not a downside. For the generic black ktape at Walmart, I can cut each strip in half, round off the corners, and use 2-3 total strips for a 5 day+ application, no guessing and fretting about using too much at once required.
On the flip side, you can use as much ktape as you want, because it's so cheap you don't have to be paranoid about the cost.
Ktape is infinitly easier to apply and take off again, no oil required, no 20 minutes in the bathroom required.
After 5 days the ktape naturally starts curling up at the edges, and you just peel it off starting with the side you put on and pulling in the direction it was applied. No pain, no oil, and you can have it off in 2 minutes or less, then you just jump in the shower to wash off any remaining adhesive.
Nipple covers for $9 are complete waste of money and useless when they're so simple to make. Simply cut your generic ktape strips into 5 (?) Squares along the lines already included on the tape, fold up a price of toilet paper into a small square, "rip" the ktape down the center and stretch it a bit, put the folded tp in the center and use that as a nipple cover.
Oh, did I mention no oil needed? Yeah don't fucking spend tens of dollars on Transtape's special "removal oil".
TL;DR: transtape is way overpriced, use ktape instead for pain-free, cheap, and accessible open binding.

TransTape when ur Autistic
just making this on a whim cuz i was thinking about how hard it can be to find information online about what certain things actually FEEL like when applied, and i'd just tried transtape last night for the first time
this isn't a guide on how to apply transtape or how effective it is or even how to use it safely (there's a very good post here, though). i'm just gonna talk about it sensory-wise in case any other ftm autistics have been considering tt but arent sure
not sure how helpful this is gonna be, but i'll go as in-depth as possible. i can also make one for chest binders if anyone wants it, but yeah
so first on the body is the nipple guards- little circular discs that protect the nipples from sticky hell/damage. they're a bit weird to put on, but once they were on, i couldn't feel them at all. in fact- this is a bit weird- but i almost preferred them to having actual nipples lmfao. the material is smooth and soft, unlike bumpy nipple shapes
after that is the tape itself; the top part is soft and stretchy. i found it pleasant to touch and handle, and mine also came in a very satisfying bright green color.
the sticky side is VERY sticky, but you can't really fidget with it if you accidentally stick it on the wrong way. once you peel it off once, the stickiness is... not gone, but less effective. i'd say you have about 2 chances to stick it properly before u need a new strip of tape
and it's literally tape. the sticky sensation never really goes away. i didn't feel it so long as i stood in a neutral position and didn't lift my arms, but i could feel the pull beneath my armpits when moving about. it wasn't too bad and i could see myself getting used to it...
but personally and more than anything, i didnt want to wear the tape for a few days, get used to the stickiness, then lose my mind when i took the tape off and didn't have it anymore. i didn't want to be eternally used to the sensation and feel Weird when it wasn't there anymore
i'd feel a lil yank on my skin if i jumped, i'd feel the strain if i lifted my arms, etc. it does a very good job of compacting and containing breast tissue- especially since's it's literally just tape- and it doesn't compress your body or make it hard to breathe or anything.
honestly, just about all tension and sensory happenings was beneath my armpits. if u stuck a lil piece of tape on your side and moved around, you'd probably get about the same experience in terms of pure sensory (NOT on ur breast tissue and dont leave it on too long aaaa)
taking it off was weird as hell, tho i didn't hate it. it was just Weird. like the world's stickiest band-aid, except it's not really painful cuz there's not really hair there for it to cling to... but also BIG disclaimer cuz i didn't use the removal oil like i was supposed to.
the nipple is a sensitive area so that was the freakiest part, but yeah.
in all i'd rate transtape a 7.5/10. it's VERY good at what it does given what it is, and i could very honestly see myself getting used to the sticker sensation if i was determined to use it. overall it's safer than chest binders and u don't get that heavy compression all around ur torso, tho underboob sweat is still a massive problem lmao (and maybe even Worse with transtape).
but yeah
if anybody has questions, don't hesitate to pop off an ask. i'll make a new post if even one person wants one, because everybody deserves to have the body they want
have fun and stay safe <3

man I wish so badly that TransTape worked for me. It just... did not work (I tried an entire 1.5 rolls, I definitely did not give up after one try). It'd be so much more comfortable than a traditional binder and much more gender affirming because then it's just tape instead of a full binder. Alas, it does not work for me. Maybe when I go on T by chest will hopefully deflate and allow me to more easily use tape

Omg please please please if you're going to try TransTape's nipple covers DO A PATCH TEST FIRST. I thought it would be fine because I've been using their tape regularly and figured it would be similarly formulated adhesive but I guess I was wrong?
I have a latex allergy, and I checked their website beforehand to confirm the nipple covers didn't have latex in them and it said they didn't.
I decided to try the nipple covers because I got a few sets for free with my tape order recently. I usually use gauze since that works the best for me, but I was going to pride and wanted a nipple cover that wouldn't be so obvious.
I am currently dealing with a skin reaction ON MY NIPPLES. They are a bit swollen and tender and where the nipple covers were is a blotchy pinkish red. This reaction is very much reminiscent of the reaction I get when latex is applied to my skin. It is PAINFUL. After removing the tape (which I had been wearing for about three and a half days) I jumped in the shower and immediately double cleansed the area to make sure there was no residue from the nipple covers left.
Generally reactions like these take a couple hours to a couple days to clear up. I don't want anyone else to be completely blindsided like I was.

How I Use TransTape
So as some of you know, I've recently tried three types of tape for binding-- KT tape, off-brand trans tape from Amazon, and name brand TransTape. KT tape was less than ideal, the off-brand tape was better but very similar and not the best, and currently the name brand TransTape is working well. I am not well-experienced at all with this, but I wanted to list some things that have worked for me and things that I wish I had done. Almost all of these, however, are things in the instructions or in online how-tos.
I also want to preface that I have small-to-medium breasts. I would say I am a B or maybe C cup. Your cup size will affect how much tape you use and how it will look for you.
First, I wish I had done a test strip like advised on the sites and boxes. What I mean by this is sticking a small piece to your skin to see how you react to it. I think this would've prepared me for the itchiness.
What helped with keeping the tape on the skin and from pulling off (even a bit with the off-brand tape) was rounding out the 4 edges. You don't have to cut off a lot, just round them out so it sticks to the skin better.
For me, I used about 3 blocks on the tape. The tapes I used had grids on the back of it with a few little lines between bolded lines. I used the bolded lines (and thinner lines if needed) as a guide for how long to cut the tape. This may be different for you.
Going off of that, since my breasts aren't very large, I use about 3 strips of the on-brand tape. I used a lot more for the KT and off-brand tape. However, I also like to flatten my chest a lot, not masculinize it. Your ideal flatness will affect how much tape you use, along with your cup size.
For KT and off-brand tape, you can just carefully pull it off or shower to get the tape off. For the on-brand TransTape, I highly recommend using the oil (or something similar to it) because it hurts so much to pull this tape off your skin.
If you have someone you trust to see you in a vulnerable moment (you know, seeing you possibly struggle with the tape and also without bindage), I recommend having them there with you. My girlfriend helped me a lot, especially when I was melting down at how the process was going. Your person could give you emotional support, push you through the process, or help you/do it for you.
There are more tips you can find online, and there are videos on YouTube that may help you figure out the process. Unfortunately, for larger cup sizes, there are some lacking resources, and also unfortunately, I can not fully help you out there. I can just say, if this is something you want and can get, give it a try and take it slow. It might not work, but it could.
And lastly, remember, your gender is not tied to your presentation. If you don't wanna bind for any reason, you never have to. And if you want to bind, even if you don't have dysphoria about your top, go for it! I full heartedly believe that gender and transness should be about happiness and fulfillment, and it is all very personal.
