NECK, MIDDLE BACK OR SHOULDER PAIN? HEADACHES? ⠀ TRAPEZIUS MUSCLE (TRAP) ⠀ [ANATOMY, FUNCTION & PATHOPHYSIOLOGY] ⠀ The TRAP is one of the largest superficial muscles that extend longitudinally from the occipital bone to the lower thoracic vertebrae and laterally to the spine of the scapula (Pic 1/2). Its functions are to move the scapulae and support the arm. ⠀ The TRAP has three functional regions: the superior region (descending/upper part), which elevates the scapula, the intermediate region (transverse/middle part), which retracts the scapulae and the inferior region (ascending/lower part), which depresses the scapulae. ⠀ This muscle tends to develop too much tension for postural reasons, such as forward head posture (where it has to work overtime to stabilize the head and neck due to poor alignment). Other reasons include poor breathing patterns (shallow neck breathing all day) and its role to stabilize the scapula when the arm is abducted and/or flexed. ⠀ TRAP muscle trigger points can lead to referred pain in the shoulder region and head as you can see on the red marked zones in picture 4. They also can initiate trigger points in the jaw joint muscles. Additionally, the muscle can cause bio mechanical problems in the cervical and thoracic spine. ⠀ The TRAP is innervated by the accessory nerve (Cranial nerve XI) which is content of the jugular foramen (Pic 5/6), where the accessory nerve can get compressed or entrapped. If so, it can lead to hypertension in the trapezius. That's why it is very important to treat (release) this foramen to give the nerve enough space to work properly (Pic 7). ⠀ In this post you can see a trap muscle cadaver anatomy lesson demonstrated by @DrJoeMuscolino. ⠀ If you want to know more about this kind of very effective techniques and how I provide specialist support to professional athletes on @WTA, @ATPTour and at @DavisCup team competition check and subscribe my YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/stefanduell ⠀ #Physiotherapy #Sportsphysiotherapy #Osteopathy #Medicine #Yoga #Pilates #Rehab #Trapezius #Gym #Muscle #Pain #Therapy #Chiropractic #Massage #NeckPain #MiddleBackPain #BackPain #ShoulderPain #Headaches https://www.instagram.com/p/CgEL3KdASyG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Strengthen Your Shoulders Fast with the Upright Row Move
<h2>The Upright Row: A Great Exercise for Strong Shoulders</h2> <p>When working out your shoulders, one exercise that really delivers results is called the "upright row." Even though it's not the most well-known move, this exercise is super effective for building shoulder strength!</p> <h3>How to Do the Upright Row</h3> <p>For this exercise, you'll need some dumbbells or kettlebells to hold in each hand. Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart and keep your back straight. Bend slightly at the knees too. This helps keep your form in line.</p> <p>Grab the weights with an overhand grip, palms facing your body. Let your arms hang down by your sides to start. From here, slowly pull the weights up by your sides until your arms are straight above your head. Pause for a second at the top.</p> <p>The key is to focus on moving your arms straight up and down, using your shoulder muscles to lift the weights. Be sure to keep your elbows pointing outward so you don't strain your shoulders. Go up slowly, then lower the weights even slower on the way back down to work those muscles extra hard.</p> <h3>What Muscles Does It Work?</h3> <p>The upright row targets your deltoids, which are the rounded muscles on the tops of your shoulders. It also hits your trapezius muscles along your shoulder blades and some smaller shoulder muscles too. In other words, it works just about all the major muscle groups in your shoulders!</p> <h3>Common Mistakes to Avoid</h3> <p>One mistake folks often make is lifting the weights too high overhead, with their elbows rising above shoulder level. This can put strain on the shoulder joint over time. Go high enough that your arms are straight above you, but avoid arching your back or going any higher.</p> <p>Another no-no is using weights that are too heavy. Try choosing a weight you can control through the full range of motion without struggling. Form is more important than how much you can lift. Listen to your body and go lighter if needed.</p> <p>With good form and concentration on your shoulder muscles, the upright row is a terrific exercise to develop strong, defined shoulders. Just be sure not to overdo it or compromise your form - steady and controlled wins the race when building stronger muscles. Now get lifting!</p>

If you are looking for ways to build up your traps and search for the best trap exercises, then you are in the right place. Here, you can explore the best trap exercises to build trapezius muscle. If you ignore your traps and fail to strengthen them along with the other muscles in your back, it can lead to poor posture, decreased performance, and even injury down the line.Doing trap exercises can lead to several benefits, including improved posture and enhanced performance. This, in turn, can enable you to lift heavier weights. This blog contains detailed descriptions of all major exercises that focus on the trap muscles, including the upper, middle, and lower trapezius muscles. In this ultimate guide, we’ll take you through everything you need to know:- What is a trapezius muscle - Important function of trap muscle - Benefits of trap exercises - Best trap exercises and How to do them correctly
Anatomy of the Trap Muscles
The trapezius muscle aka trap muscle is one of the widest back muscles. The trapezius is called such because of its shape. It looks like a trapezoid (a shape with four sides, two that are parallel). It is one of the major muscles responsible for moving the scapula (shoulder blade) and supporting the neck and head. The trapezius muscle has three distinct regions:- Upper Trapezius, - Middle Trapezius, - Lower Trapezius,

Upper Trap
The upper fibers of the trapezius muscle originate from the back of the skull and attach to the lateral third of the clavicle (collarbone). The upper traps are responsible for elevating the shoulders and rotating them inward. They are worked primarily with shrugging movements.
Middle Trap
The middle fibers of the trapezius muscle originate from the spinous processes of the vertebrae in the upper back and attach to the acromion process of the scapula. The middle traps are responsible for retracting the scapula (shoulder blades). They are worked with rowing movements.
Lower Trap
The lower fibers of the trapezius muscle originate from the spinous processes of the vertebrae in the middle and lower back and attach to the medial border of the scapula. The lower traps are responsible for depressing the scapula and rotating them upward. They are worked with exercises that involve raising the arms overhead.Read More: https://www.fitliferegime.com/20-best-trap-workout-and-exercises-for-mass-and-strength/ Read the full article

Tension Tuesday- number one spot for headaches (as I was taught in trigger point therapy) People will draw this pattern, too. “It starts here and goes up and around to the temple,” they say. However, from experience and practice and exploring beliefs/dogma, I don’t find that to be the truth. There is some truth to it, and when we lie the muscles, nerves, and pain patterns atop each other, something is revealed. What do you see? What nerves and musculature? What joint? #headachessuck #headache #headacherelief #headaches #pain #tmj #trapezius #uppertrapezius #stressheadache #adaptablepolarity #muscles #painpatterns #triggerpoint #triggerpointtherapy #triggerpoints #triggerpointrelease https://www.instagram.com/p/CopvAP5PwYP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

This was taken in the summer of 2021. One of my big go-to exercises for a strong #upperback, for myself as well as my clients, is the #bandpullapart. Perform this with either a #pronatedgrip or with a #supinatedgrip (my preferred grip!), which will remove the #anteriordeltoids from the equation, allowing the focus to be directly on the #posteriordeltoids. This amazing exercise also plays a part in #trapezius development, giving you a look of power, and #muscularbalance, as the increase in #strength allows you to retract your #scapula with ease. Aim for up to 20 reps when warming up for any exercise or you can also hit this on your off days.
