ಥoಥ: How are they like when they cry? Do they just stream tears nonstop? Does their nose get clogged to the point that it’s hard to breathe? Is it easy for them to speak when they are sobbing? Do they hiccup when they cry?
oh i am so glad you asked this 8')
under the cut because of course... lucian can never stop talking about this guy. the return of my 5000 word metas. buckle up; we're getting a little edgy with this one.
so with volo, i've talked about how he's someone who feels his emotions to an extreme amount due to an imbalance, over-bloated aspect of the human spirit, right? it's only natural someone thinks he's a crier; and he was! namely when he was younger.
as a kid, it was progressive as he grew; but he tended to lean on the side of a silent crier who let it all stream down his cheeks, for the most part. it was hard to stop, overflowing much like everything else he'd felt; his eyes would go wide, his jaw would quiver, he'd look positively stunned at first. his breathing would pick up, as if he was panicking and telling himself not to cry, but like all things, it'd end up fruitless; in the end, he'd always crumble and break. he might hiccup at worst while desperately trying to swipe his face clean with his palms to make it stop, his inhales would be shakier, and when it was really bad, he might sob and warble his words, completely fumble his sentences, lose them in their entirety because everything just wouldn't stop. imagine the messiest crier of a kid you know. that was a younger volo.
when he got a little bit older -- about past the age of ten, when things started nosediving very quickly, and a turning point where his sorrow would turn into anger and ambition as he'd aged into a tween and then a teenager -- he'd try very hard to be a pillar of strength... for himself, more than anything. as a testament of some kind against weakness, because maybe being weak was the reason why he'd felt so cursed. weakness makes one more susceptible to bad things happening, right? with pokemon, it's the weak and pitiful ones who suffer the worst, because they're the most vulnerable; and one chosen by god is not weak and vulnerable. they must persevere. this is where this ideology begins. the idea of pity starts making his stomach churn. so, he'd muster up a half-hearted glare at whatever it is that put him in this position, pop a scowl, tremor slightly; he'd try everything to keep it in, but his eyes would always leak like a waterfall, and he'd damn himself for it. it wasn't foolproof, but it was a step forward in trying to gain some control. any control, over how horrible his life was proving to be.
as all natural states of progression so, by the time he's an adult... it's safe to say it's very hard to make him cry. poetically, one might wager that he'd cried his last tears years ago, and they'd all gone and dried up. something something the flames of his anger the earthiness of his ambition drying up the well of his sorrows, so on, so forth, you know how it is. and to his credit, that's sort of true. when volo cries as an adult, it really isn't crying... for the most part.
these days, his biggest tell is how glassy his eyes get; he blinks in a particularly hard way one does when they're holding back tears. everything about him gets tense; his jaw, his shoulders, he may clench his fists or grit his teeth. sometimes, he shakes. other times, you can see him swallow visibly. his breathing might become heavier, as if it's closer to aggravation than it is crying. but he's good at curbing it now, good at directing it into something else, and he's good at containing his voice beyond maybe, if something's struck him, a quiver that he wrestles with. he hates it. he refuses to be seen as weak and vulnerable and someone to pity, so he bites it back, swallows it down, because he cannot let anyone see him break.
for the most part, anyway.
if something really hits him really hard -- then sure enough, against his own self and desires, he will cry. this is usually when suffering another blow to his life that he deems by arceus's presumed neglect; it touches upon the wounds in his heart, so his expression draws to a blank. his eyes are wide again, if only for a moment -- and tears begin to well. it's often like this that he begins to shake, a little violently; in his knees, in his shoulders, in his hands. despite himself, he will cry; a few tears, spare ones that likely stain his clothes or the ground and drip without hitting his jaw with how he bows his head typically, but they fall. his eyes burn, and everything within him feels molten and hot and acidic; if it's a fresh scorn, it's not unlike him to fall to his knees and dig his nails into the ground, or double-over and put a palm over his heart -- over where his pendent lies -- and grip with a profound tightness. he'll hold on until his knuckles go white, or dig his nails into something until they ache; he grits his teeth during these, desperate to keep it in, and only allowing himself a few sobs and however long he needs to let it out. for the most part, it's quiet; he trembles more than anything, more angry than anything else, and it's not so uncommon to find him glaring with tears in his eyes; at the sky, at whatever's damned him, with a hardened resolve, and his voice becomes a guttural growl whenever he does speak. it isn't very much, but he'll manage some words -- brief, in-between pauses, while he tries so hard to keep himself together.
and in more extreme cases, the very, very bad cases where he has an utter breakdown, where he's been completely and utterly struck -- where old wounds have been forcibly re-opened, he absolutely loses it. it's a lot like the example i'd mentioned above, but cranking the dial to about a forty five. he'll be stunned, gutted: standing there for a moment while his mouth goes agape, and maybe it'll twitch a few times in a thin line if it hasn't. the final cracks in an emotional dam are splitting, and because of how corrosive his emotions have developed, he eventually snaps; it's likely he'll spit out a laugh, extremely watery and in disbelief, a little nervous, before it tumbles into more desperate laughter while he smiles that same furious, toothy, out-of-place smile you see in the temple of sinnoh. his nervous laughs eventually break down into sobs, and it begins to look a lot like a mix between how he cried when he was at his youngest, and the above; it starts flowing, and it doesn't stop, just like before.
it's just gotten worse.
he'll laugh a little more, because he can't believe this, because it feels disgusting and cathartic all at once. his emotional wires are getting completely crossed, and he can't tell what is what anymore -- he'll howl, he'll bury his face into his hands and scream into his palms, he'll bark at whatever's damned him until his throat gets raw. his expression is always teetering somewhere between a grin and looking utterly devastated and enraged; he'll peek through the gaps of his fingers or drag them down his face, or tear them through his hair and grip hard enough that his scalp hurts. it's safe to say he throws something of a tantrum... or at least yeah, a huge tantrum, long overdue from all that repressing he’s been doing, with how he curses and hugs onto himself so tightly that his fingers dig into his arms, or sometimes, he'll beat his fist against something while he shatters. he talks through it all, or tries to, even if his voices shakes, even if he's choking on his tears, even if it sounds like broken glass -- because he has the raw intensity enough to power through it.
but he sobs, at least, free and without restraint, until he can taste the salt of his own tears. will he cry like this around someone, ever? probably not, unless something horrific happens enough to push that button happens in the company of someone, but it takes a lot to break him to this point. but it exists, privately to himself, beneath the ever-watching eye of god. he’ll go on like this until he falls into nothing but a moment of simply dumping everything that’s been lodged within him emotionally, until he’s tired himself out and uses the last of his fumes to transfix it into anger, because anger is more beneficial to him and better than feeling emptier than before. that, or he tires himself out to the point of regaining his composure because he feels sick of feeling this way, and he’s either bitter or decidedly cruel. regardless, his ambition always drags him out of it, exhaustion aside, how bone-tired he is aside.
because not all pillars are meant to stay solid forever, right? eventually, the weight of the cracks will prove too much, and it'll all come tumbling down. but he will always try to rebuild when they fall.

(via Silver Shoes | Detroit Institute of Arts Museum)
Yayoi Kusama Silver Shoes, between 1976 and 1977 shoes, cotton, and paint
Kusama is one of Japan's best known living artists. Early in her career, Kusama moved to New York, over the objections of her family. There she quickly established herself in the mid-century avant-garde art scene, working in a broad range of mediums including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, installation, and performance art. This installation belongs to a series of works begun in 1962 in which she takes everyday objects, such as shoes, furniture, suitcases, and kitchen equipment, and transforms them into something strange by covering them with phallic forms that are hand sewn, stuffed with cotton, and patined. While Kusama has said that she uses this practice to come to terms with her sexual fears, the sculpture is also a humorous commentary on the art world. Her work is characterized by repetition, pattern, and obsession, and this form has been used as a recurrent voacbulary throughout her fifty-year career. From Bulletin of the Detroit Institute of Arts 89 (2015)

What impressed me the most are the Swifties whos langaue is not English. They are still able to post on there blogs, share there stories with us. International fans have such amazing voacbulary. It blows my mind. They dont get enough credit because English is not an langaue to learn. They want to interact with Taylor in her native langaue if they ever get to meet her in person.

where can I find good french exercises?
Hi! I’m not sure I’m the best person to ask because I learnt French in school and never really did exercises online 😅 But here are a few:
Alloprof has a bunch of different exercices! It’s a québécois website used by schools here, so there’s also a bunch of different levels corresponding to the school years in Quebec (primaire 1-6 are grades 1-6 and secondaire 1-5 are grades 7-11), so you can choose the level you think is more appropriate for you.
Another website is the CCDMD that offers a bunch of exercices (in the Exercices interactifs section), as well as exercises in PDFs that you can print out (with a correction sheet). It also offers grammar lessons (in PDF too) for allophones/french learners. It’s all in French, which might be a bit hard to understand if you’re only starting out, but if you’re more advanced, it looks like a very good ressource!
The two websites are from Quebec, but the French used on the websites is standard, so you shouldn’t have any problems with regionalisms :)
Of course, français facile is a good website too! It has a 48 pages of exercises that cover a wide variety of subjects, including grammar, verbs, and vocabulary.
Finally, another website worth checking out is ortholud, that offers grammar, voacbulary, verb, anmd dictation exercises with English instructions. You should definitely check this one out if you’re a beginner and you’re not comfortable using a fully French website yet. It also has crosswords puzzles! :)
Hope this helps!

Service week 4
13.11.2020
this week for my service part of CAS I give online tutoring english lessons. My goal in this is to rise awarness to important global subjects among the people that i teach. This week we did a lesson on sustainable fashion and what effects the fashion industry has on our world. I asked Nina to read two articles and study voacbulary in order to prepare for our lesson
Article https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2020/apr/07/fast-fashion-speeding-toward-environmental-disaster-report-warns Artisan is a skilled craft worker who makes or creates material objects partly or entirely by hand. When possible, look for clothes made by craftspeople and artisans. This supports their traditional and artisanal expertise, skills and processes to preserve their cultural heritage. Be aware of cultural appropriation (or misappropriation) – this is the adoption of elements of one culture by members of another culture. Biodegradable means that a product can break down naturally without any negative effects on the environment, such as releasing harmful chemicals. In the fashion industry, biodegradable often refers to non-synthetic fabrics and those without dyes and finishing chemicals. This is the case of all the products of Eli´s Boots. All are 100% biodegradable vegetable-tanned camel leather. And remember you can enjoy Free International Shipping in all our fashion products. Carbon-Neutral Carbon is shorthand for all the various greenhouse gases — carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. These gases absorb and emit radiant energy that increases the temperature of the earth’s surface and therefore contributes to climate change. A company striving for carbon neutrality means they are aiming to eliminate all carbon emissions from its supply chain. Child labor is often defined as work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential, and their dignity, and that is harmful to physical and mental development. Circular fashion /economy refers to the entire lifecycle of a product and centers on a circle of “create, use, recycle”, rather than the linear “create, use, dispose”. It looks at products beyond their original function and timespan and focuses on how their materials can be consistently utilized and repurposed. Compliance means that companies are adhering to the law. This might not always be good enough, as labor laws in foreign countries are weak. Cost-per-wear considers the value of a piece in relation to how many times it’s worn. For example, you buy a pair of $200 sneakers and wear them twice, that’s $100 per wear. You wear them 100 times, its $2 per wear, and so on. Think of items less as objects but more in terms of use. It’s much better to spend more on a pair of jeans you can practically live in for the next few decades than a cheap $30 pair that fall apart in under a year. Closed-loop cycle is a common term and its very similar to circular fashion. In fashion, it means that new clothes are made from preexisting clothes and textiles. Once an item has reached the end of its lifecycle, it can be broken down, turned back into yarn/fabric and then recycled into another garment. Cruelty-free means that companies did not test ingredients or products on animals during the production phase. Items that meet this standard normally carry a heart symbol. Cruelty-free in fashion means that no animals were killed or harmed. This applies in the process of manufacture of both the material and the product. Deadstock fabrics are textiles that are no longer useful for big factories or companies. There various reasons for deadstock fabrics. Sometimes the textiles no longer fit for the company´s designs. Sometimes there is an overstock of that particular design, the rolls might have slight damages, didn’t meet the initial color matching, or the simply the color is no longer in season. Eco-friendly fashion, like sustainability, is an all-encompassing term that takes many factors into account. “Eco” is short for ecology, the study of the interaction between organisms and the environment. Therefore, eco-friendly is about min

Week 06 Reflection (Week ending 05/09/2020)
A week summarised by a lack of internet connectivity....
MURI Workshop: Unfortuately, I was unable to partake in the workshop on mental health during the week due to internet connectivity issues. Looking at notes that was posted to iLearn + services available, it seems that there is definitely a lot of support available in difficult times. One key thing that stuck out (mainly from the weekly tasks) is the importance of de-stressing, particularly in these trying times where the norm has been greatly challenged by covid-19.
Research: Research work involved a group meeting (which again, I couldn’t attend due to a lack of internet connectivity). HOWEVER, they did record the meeting for me, so when I did get internet (late in the week), I was able to watch the recording and be up-to-date with the expectations of my research group. This week, I was tasked to summarise a paper’s findings on how “seeing spelling supports voacbulary learning”. The summary will be checked by my supervisor, and later on, turned into an infographic for that area of reading. Although i haven’t quite done the work yet (mainly due to only recently gaining internet + the craze that comes along with moving), I’m sure it will be done by my next meeting.
University: I had to miss one or two classes due to not being able to sustain a zoom call and most class attendance being through zoom. Additionally, there have been a lot of assignments (most due in Week 07) which I haven’t had the proper time or environment to work on. This week was stressful, but next week will be a lot more stressful. I have a quiz, 3 hand-ins, and a mid-sem. Hopefully I can push through it all so I can have a bit of a break during the mid-sem, but most importantly, catch up on all the lecture content I have fallen behind on.
