Utena's hair in her "backstory" looks like Anthy's as the rose bride and the crown is the same as the rose bride's. Also the ring is an "engagement ring" (engagement, bride, you get what I'm trying to say)
The narrative (Akio aka the embodiment of the patriarchy) introduces this idea that Utena was a princess/rose bride and thus she will continue to be one: she is a girl, her only options are to be a princess or a witch, and a rose bride in either way
But just as the backstory is false, the ideas it introduces are false. There is no prince riding on a white horse and never was, the ring wasn't an engagement ring, Utena wasn't a princess/rose bride. Even though society tried to make her one (the backstory, Akio's grooming), she is not.
At Ohtori, all girls are like the rose bride, but there is an outside world. Girls are like the rose bride not because they are predestined to be from birth, but because Akio/Ohtori/the narrative forces them into these roles.
More on the hair style: Anthy's hair is pinned up, made to look sort of like a bob/short hair, to resemble her hair as a young child (shorter) while in the present her hair is long. The illusion of eternity that Ohtori perpetuates (her hair is made to look like it's the same as when she was younger but in reality it's grown)

I’m not saying I’ve never done it before, but the “pssshhhhttt that’s not very realistic” arguments in entertainment are so annoying.
No crap. I don’t want to watch a movie about you waking up and scratching your butt and going to sit in your cubicle and coming home and watching The Office reruns while you eat Mexican takeout.
I want stories that are funny, insane, grand. Compelling. It doesn’t have to be “realistic” it just has to make you believe by its own magic. That’s what I want. There’s a reason the oldest stories that have survived time are epics

Watching tiktok users not understanding the TLOU2 storyline at ALL, butchering all significant points and only having braincells to put characters in either a good or bad category, Joel stans calling Abby the villain, Abby stans calling Joel selfish, blaming Tommy for Ellie's decisions, thinking that Ellie chose revenge over Dina or that she'd be happy if she stayed etc:

Now that I’m thinking about it, with how Ran seems to dislike wearing clothes or something he’d really enjoy cosplaying as Grey Fullbuster from Fairy Tail (god I feel old) because that man can’t keep his clothes on for the life of him either
Lmao sounds like it fits Ran and his clothes issue!

Ok, Ok, so you know how Lizzie and Joel got married and then Joey and Shelby saw the goodies and were like “You wanna get married?” “Just for the gifts?” “Yeah!”
….well what if they ACTUALLY got married
It’d be a platonic marriage (obviously) for convenience, forming an alliance and resources (both from each other and from the wedding gifts). At first when referring to each other as spouses to the other empires they’d be weirded out but after a while they wouldn’t even bat an eye at the romantic connotations from the status and refer to each other as spouses with ease. They don’t call each other husband or wife when talking to each other however they will play the spouse card on the other when they want something.
For Example:
“Hey Joey what are you doing rummaging through my chests?”
“Ah, Shrub! My what a coincidence, I was just…”
“You were trying to steal from me weren’t you”
“I wouldn’t call it that. I was just….. borrowing some things AND as your husband I feel like this already belongs to me. You know ‘What’s yours is mine’ so really I’m not doing anything wrong”
“I don’t remember that being in my vows”
“Ahem! ‘I shall support you and your empire in order for us to become stronger’. This is just……supporting my empire’s builds!”
“You know what, sure! I’ll let you ‘borrow’ as much stuff from my chests as you like”
“Gre-”
“Only if I get to do the same after all I am your wife so it’s only fair”
“…well I suppose that could be arranged”
“That includes your totem farm”
“What, do you want me to make a special wife chest in my farm”
“Yes”
Their marriage is actually REALLY good and healthy to the surprise of EVERY SINGLE EMPIRE as they were all sure they were going to be awful (the perks of marrying your best friend I suppose). Then Xornoth gave Joey the crown.
You see the best thing about a platonic marriage between Shelby and Joey is that it makes Jornoth infinitely funnnier because the entire arc Joey was after Shelby and she’s like:
“Is this REALLY how you want to treat your wife”
*gasp* “Shelby are you, jealous? Oh Shelby, don’t you remember our marriage is strictly political and I can love whoever I want”
“What! No, I just think that my husband should have better taste in men!”
And then you also remember that Xornoth was mostly targeting Shelby so Joey is like “Xornoth! Are you flirting???? With my wife???? Instead of ME???????” Though after the whole Xornoth situation I feel like they’d still have a pretty good marriage just with more teasing, bickering and banter.
Joey and Shelby's friendship in season 1 is underrated and just thinking about all the hilarities this marriage can create is making me giddy. Or maybe I’ve just been reading too much of Rain’s marriage of the state au and Mochi’s secret husbands au that I also wanted to make a marriage au.
(If this gets enough traction I might open up my ask box for this au and maybe talk about some fairytale trio shenanigans for this)

"Would you still love me if I was a wyrm?"
In a loose (and bloody) retelling of the King Lindworm folktale set against the backdrop of 1980s Milwaukee, two people try to navigate their unorthodox romance while an arcane, snake-like infection afflicts, and starts to change, one of them.
I've started posting chapters of TAMW's draft on ao3 and Tapas! Will update every Saturday!
Here's a version of the 'cover' without the text:
