We Don't Talk About Alma❓❗
I hope no one's done this. Like I'm going insane with this idea. I'm serious.
Basically, after Mirabel's ceremony, after everyone had left and the family had gone to bed, she doesn't immediately go to Bruno for a vision. She kind sits in the candle room and looks at the candle. And what does she figure? It's her fault Mirabel didn't get a gift.
Now you might think she thought it was because she out pressure on the family, but that's not it. She doesn't even think about it. The candle flickered in her hands. So her logic is she must not be fit to be the candle her, she did something wrong. So when she's sure everyone's asleep, she leaves the candle in the nursery, telling a sleepy Mirabel to watch over it, and leaves. How she ends up in the walls I'm not sure. Casita probably showed her and she saw it as a chance to be with her family but not hurting the magic, so she stays in there.
Tumblr media
Mirabel is out in charge of the candle. It was left in the nursery. Mirabel didn't really hear Alma that night, as Alma was telling her a lot of stuff, but she did hear the last part. And then that was the last anyone say of her. Literally, Mirabel was the last to see her, and then was gone. The next, Mirabel's door reappeared; she was holding the candle. This was because Alma, technically speaking, stepped down from being the candle holder, so it went to the next one in line; which was Mirabel. Of course the family was ecstatic, and another party was being planned. They hadn't even actually realized Alma was gone. Mirabel didn't reveal what she heard last night yet and everyone in the family kind of just assumed Alma knew and was around. Even though...no one...saw her???
Anyway, it isn't until townspeople start coming to Casita that someone asks "Where's Alma?". That prompted the family to search for her, on the DL of course. Mostly the adults, the kids were having too much fun playing in Mirabel's new room. When they couldn't find her, they didn't quite announce it. Once the party was over and the kids were asleep, they went looking for her all throughout Casita more throughly. Bruno was the one who finally noticed that Alma's door had gone dark. And when they went in, it was like no one had been in it for years. It was dark, dusty and there was scorch marks in certain places. The candle room looked abandoned, and the actual candle had been placed in Mirabel's room.
Kids found out later on and Mirabel's told everyone what Alma said to her the night of her birthday. Dolores couldn't even find Dolores; she said she could hear something but she wasn't entirely sure if it was her or not. Morale was made candleholder, but didn't step up to the role as leader until she was about 10. Courtesy of her parents.
Though, Antonio, afyer learning about gifts and what not, had a, very rational actually, fear that Mirabel would just disappear like Alma did. Other family sort of have a fear of that as well. Mirabel assures the family, and more importantly Antonio, that she wouldn't of course.
Tumblr media
Also Alma's line the The Family Madrigal is changed.
"My Abuela Alma-"
"We Don't Talk About Alma!"
"...One day they she saw the candle flicker, and then she suddenly disappeared."
Tumblr media
The thing is, it was implemented not because they didn't like her, or because she was weird. It was because it made the triplets sad to talk about her. Pressured or not, that was still their mother, and they loved her, so when she just uped and disappeared, it was kind of jarring to them. So, Agustín and Félix told the kids not to talk about Abuela near them, and then the town kind of picked up on it. Kind of an unspoken rule. Antonio has no idea who she is, and Luisa, Camilo and Mirabel barely remember her. They were too young.
No one knows why she left. Dolores can’t properly hear her, and Bruno’s visions never make sense.

THE THIEF AND THE PROPHET  CHAPTER 2: 【 THE DEVIL'S HANGED MAN 】
「 The celebrations have begun! It's a joyous time of laughter, reminiscing, and preparation in the days leading up to the wedding of Dolores and Mariano. Well...for everyone else, at least.
Bruno finds himself a little overwhelmed by all the festivities, feeling a lot of pressure to not make accidentally 'ruining weddings' a tradition of his.
It doesn't help that the strange talisman he won in a dice game is attracting a lot of unwanted attention when it's revealed that the jewel merchant is said to be a 'gold thief' who lures people in with stories and 'fools gold' in exchange for real gold.
Meanwhile, the mysterious jewel merchant, Chel, returns home, where she mopes in a bath after finding another gray hair. Thankfully, her sister, Inés, is there to boost her spirits, as are the magical charms of her youngest nephew, Vito.  」 ✨| CHAPTER 3:  A flashback to almost 12 years ago right before Mirabel's ceremony and Bruno's disappearance. Chel returns to The Encanto with her family and has a conversation with a mysterious stranger.
Thank you so much for waiting patiently for this chapter! There's a lot of information leading into the next. Everything has meaning and nothing is a mistake. Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback! HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13th!

first breakfast all together after the rebuild of Casita:
Camilo: We don't talk about Bruno no no no..
everyone stays silent, not understanding why he would bring up that song with Bruno at the table with them
Mirabel: We don't talk about Brunoooo
the two look at Pepa, waiting for her to start her verse.
everyone is still shocked, but when Bruno giggles, Pepa's cloud disappears and she starts singing, followed by all the others at the table.
Antonio and Luisa, looking confused: what is happening... why is everyone singing this?
Julieta, who heard every single part of the song from the kitchen: Imma meet my father real quick.

Inspired by something I saw once but can't find again
Bruno: You know, if you keep your fish in such a small bowl, it's probably going to die. Bruno: If you keep eating all that candy, you'll get fat. Bruno: Hey, you have a bald spot. Alma: You know, mijo, maybe you should try to be a bit more tactful when telling people about your visions.... Bruno: Oh, a vision? I haven't had one in ages.

Theory Time!
Isabela is closer to the warm-colored family!
Don’t believe me? Well, to start, she is the only cool-colored family member(aside from Mirabel, of course) to sing in We Don’t Talk About Bruno, a song sung otherwise entirely by the warm-colored family.
Tumblr media
She also is shown to be very close to Pepa, much moreso than to her own mother(I’ll get back to that later.), multiple times in the movie:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, it makes sense for her to be close to Pepa: water and rain nourishes plants and makes them grow! But it’s worth noticing that aside from background dialogue, Pepa doesn’t talk to Dolores even once, while Mirabel is at least shown talking to both Julieta and Pepa. Isabela also doesn’t talk to Julieta at all throughout the movie as far as I’m concerned.
And of course, during the lunch scene in which Alma discusses Isabela’s engagement to Mariano, who does she sit with?
Tumblr media
The warm-colored siblings, right between Dolores and Camilo(with Antonio being on the other side of Dolores, though it’s not shown in the gif, so technically she is sitting on the side of the Afrolatine kids, whereas Mirabel would be sitting next to Luisa if Alma hadn’t forced her to move)! Even interacting with them the way siblings would, with both of them playing pranks on her and her responding to the latter in kind.
But the question is...why? Why does Isabela appear to be so much closer to Pepa’s side of the family than to her own? I have a few hypothetical reasons for this.
The first is that, due to her pressure to be a perfect, graceful flower(in Mariano’s words), and the older sister of the only Madrigal who didn’t get a gift, her parents didn’t take as much time and energy in looking after her and seeing if she was all right than they did Mirabel. They were more concerned about making Mirabel feel better about not having a gift than they were Isa being perfect because from their point of view, perfect doesn’t need fixing. Isa didn’t have any problems from their point of view and they figured she had everything under control. So she gravitated towards the warm side of the family since they actually paid attention to her outside of being perfect.
The second(and this partly ties into the first) is that the warm-colored family is the side that actually sees who she is beyond her perfect persona. We know already that Isabela and Dolores are primas-hermanas, and were joined at the hip since they were kids. Who’s to say that Dolores wasn’t the only one that Isa could confide in about the pressure to be perfect, and that she was the only one Isa could be herself around for a while? As for Pepa, they most likely spend a lot of time together, seeing as how they dance together, she hands Pepa the flowers, and they even do the same dance at different points in the movie! Most likely it was Pepa who taught Isabela how to dance as a form of tia-sobrina bonding. As for Camilo, he pesters her like a little brother would an older sister, something he never does to Dolores and probably couldn’t because of her sensitive ears. It’s likely that he does this because he sees past Isabela’s perfect facade, and also because he can’t play those pranks on Dolores so he does it to Isabela instead.
(They also both race for the candle together and look at each other worriedly when they fail, neither of them paying Mirabel any mind, it’s as if they were looking out for each other the way a brother and sister would:)
Tumblr media
Remember when I said that she is sitting with the warm-colored siblings at the lunch table? At the dinner table, when she is about to be proposed to and thus must keep up her perfection facade, she’s not sitting next to them at all. She is sitting with Mirabel and Agustin, who are on the cool-colored side of the family:
Gifts may also be a part of this. Notably, unlike her mother and sister, Isabela has a gift that would fit in better amongst the warm-colored family, one that relates to nature in some way: her gift involves growing plants and flowers, Pepa’s gift is controlling the weather with her emotions, and Antonio talks to animals, which is a part of nature. The three are like a natural cycle. Pepa’s rain could make Isabela’s flowers grow and Isa could use those plants to feed Antonio’s herbivore friends. It’s possible that she gets along with Antonio too the way she does Pepa and Dolores, and sees him somewhat like a little brother rather than a cousin.
All of this is just my opinion, of course, but it’s not too off the mark. I don’t think it’s too far of a stretch to imagine that Isabela feels closer to the warm-colored family than to her own side, as tragic as that might be. Lots of scenes show her interacting with Pepa or relating to Pepa the way a mother and daughter do, and she is shown interacting with Dolores and Camilo the way siblings would. So perhaps she does feel a stronger connection to the warm-colored family after all.
But that’s just a theory...AN ISABELA THEORY!!!
Let me know what you think in the comments below!

AUGHF 🥺 THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS IN THE TAGS MEME. I GOT A BIT EMO OVER THEM you're so sweet, I'm glad you're enjoying my clowning in the tags!!
Also Chibita can bite the Pope for all I care, he has a permit. (The permit is a napkin where I scribbled "Chibita can do whatever he wants — Mar Maraierba")
YEAH OF COURSE!!!! siempre estoy ahí para apoyar a mis compas hispanos 😎💪specially since, as i said, you're super funny and kind!!!
also the reason why i lost it at the chibita-yuuichi accidental comparison because chibita is just. unhinged. he bites people. he commits tax evasion but it's okay, we forgive him, he has a permit!!!
yuuichi on the other hand is a child who killed an entire town minus a few other kids, and planned on killing them too but decided to basically have them fight for their life at a death (? game because why not you know? (his reasoning verbatim) and when the protag was like "oh wow you went through a super fucked up thing but you know what. i can help you. all you need to do is literally just do better and keep living." and he went "haha don't feel like it. i'm killing you instead <3"
he's also the funniest, he would rather explode than take anything seriously and talk about his feelings, he would rather explode SO HARD he split into two different people. he's canonically gay and his first actual appereance has to be seen to be believed. that sassy latin song plays whenever he shows up no matter how serious the situation is. his catchphrase is "vamos cantar!" because he saw it on tv. he got asked why he was doing all those murder and bad stuffs and he replied by quoting an ad. he's literally a fucked up baby. but he's my fucked up baby

Do you think that I'm "We don't talk about alma" instead of bad luck like bruno they call her wicked witch? Or witch in general? "A FIVE FOOT WITC-"
Nah cause who tf do Camilo think he fooling 😭 he went up to Dolores one day and was like how tall was Abuela and Dolores lowkey snorted and was like "oh she was like 5 foot 3, she wasn't as tall as you might think."
But yeah, witch probably 😭 idk why, but it was probably some salty people in town, not really the family. Alma wasn't that bad, but she's not exactly there to stop anyone for talking so. It kinda, unfortunately, sticks.

『Visions of the past....』
Some more colored panels from the flashback in Chapter 3 of Thief and the Prophet. The atmosphere is such a refreshing change. It isn't just Bruno's memories that are painful.

@detective-with-one-arm sent in a starter:
In the local wooded area, a dark-furred werewolf was following a scent. It was another werewolf scent, but she was intrigued nonetheless. Rachel couldn't help the longing to be a part of a pack. Lone wolves did not do well. Female wolves especially were not often lone wolves. It wasn't unheard of, just not common. Maybe it was much to hope for, but she wanted to belong again. And it was worth a try. Maybe the werewolf she was tracking would be friendly, like her. She hoped so. By the moon, she desperately hoped so.
A large white wolf was curled up in the hollow of a big oak tree. His siblings and mother were also sleeping inside the empty cave-like alcove the roots of the tree created, providing shelter for them until the full moon would be over. His mother and siblings were fast asleep, but Alma was wide awake, staring up through the roots and branches at the stars and moon.
He was distracted by their light, but a scent getting closer drew his attention away from the night sky.
Ears perking up, the white wolf quietly stood. He glanced back at his family, still sleeping, then silently left the great oak's shelter, venturing out into the night in search of the curious smell. It was definitely an animal of some kind. Possibly a human, but... it smelled like wolf too. Maybe it was another werewolf encroaching on their territory.
His mother wouldn't be happy about that. She was very protective of her pups, even though they were all adults now. The pack was small, but very tight knit. Alma, however, was curious. He'd never actually met another werewolf outside of the family. They always kept hidden away. If this scent really was that of another werewolf, he wanted to know more about them... even if it was dangerous.

I am back! New chapter is now up! Sneak peek and link below.
Little sunlight passed through the trees. The bird's sweet chirping slowly died down, being replaced with caws from crows and falcons. Violet grew more worried with each step. She stayed close to Amelia, who was also growing slightly uneasy about their path choice.
The fog lightened up a bit, revealing new traces in the dirt. Shoe prints. They cautiously followed the marks in the dirt. It did not long until something peculiar occurred. The shoe prints turned into what appeared to be animal tracks. Large animal tracks.
“What made these?” Cole questioned. Xander bent down, examining the track. They were large, marks in the dirt. They were bigger than his hand, two small and two larger ones.

“You found him.” Tía Pepa’s voice is expressionless. “You found Bruno. You actually did it.”
Mamá pushes past Camilo and puts her hand on Tía Pepa’s shoulder. “Pepa, let’s not get too … Surely Bruno is … Mirabel, are you saying you met his … his ghost?”
“No, he’s alive!” Mirabel says, horrified. “He’s solid! He eats food!” She doesn’t want to say what food, exactly. “That means he’s alive, right?”
Mamá frowns. “Did you touch him?”
“Yes.”
“Was he … cold?”
“Yes.”
Her mother’s face crumples. Tía Pepa goes white.
“Not like a corpse!” Mirabel adds hastily. “Just like someone with poor circulation. He’s definitely alive.”
In which the prophesied crisis breaks.
