The KSA and the UAE are as much to blame as US and UK
To forget to boycott and talk about Saudi Arabia and Emirates part of this genocide on Gaza and attack on Yemen
As an Arab, I know that Arabs and Muslims bare unforgettable shame right now as we're unable to help Palestinians, Sudanese, and Yemenis.
And by 'We' I mean the people. The leaders are something else that I hope will burn in hell.
Arabic countries are among some of the worst dictatorships. We can scream and shout all we want, but no one will listen, and yet, I do feel unbearable guilt every day. But the guilt should not be distributed equally
Egypt has the border with Palestine and barely opens it. But Egypt is already on the verge of economic collapse and is billions of dollars in debt. The government can not move without the approval of the US. Not to say that they're right for not opening the borders, not at all. Yemen is even poorer than Egypt, and they had more courage than the entire world to stop Israeli ships! But I am saying that while Egypt is to blame, it's already in deep shit and more economic punishment will affect its people decades before it affects its dictators.
But Saudi Arabia and Emirates are two of the richest countries in the world! With enough oil that they have the US throat in their hands, and they're giving it a soothing massage.
And what did they do? Nothing. No, worse than nothing. The rockets that attacked Yemen flew over Emirates by their permission.
And with evidence from history we know they can single handedly stop this genocide.
In 1973, in the war between Egypt and Israel, USA tried to back Israel - like today - and King Faisal, the king of Saudi Arabia, basically told the USA,"Take one step towards Egypt and you will not see a drop of oil"
And he kept his promise.
Arab members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec), led by King Faisal, announced an embargo on oil sales to America, Britain, Canada, Japan and the Netherlands in retaliation for their support of Israel. These cuts nearly quadrupled the price of oil from $2.90 a barrel before the embargo to $11.65 a barrel in January 1974.
And the US backed off. In a full-blown war. Not just one-sided genocide.
The UAE products are boycotted in Egypt under the knowledge that "Emirates are as much Zionists as The US"
And again and again, Arabs are not their leaders! Saudi and Emirati citizens are not their leaders, just like not all Americans are Biden or Trump.
But two insanely rich countries that can stop this genocide and don't? Their products should be boycotted, and their names should be dragged through the mud, just like the US and UK

Another Happy Landing
Space!
It's huge!
Like, beyond words and stuff.
So anyway, people want to get to places that are far away, BUT they also don't want to wait for months and centuries to get to those places that are really REALLY REALLY REEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLY far away.
But then there's this jerk called Physics, you know, total rules lawyer, nobody likes them, but their dad is God, and just generally a total Karen when you try something they didn't think of before. Real party-pooper. Meanwhile, you're just a guy named Greg. With a bad knee and student debt. And your wife left for Chad. She found a nice beauty resort and booked a three week experience. She'll bring back souvenirs. If she remembers. Which she won't, just like the last three times. But it's okay, you've got a bucket of ice cream and the entire TNG series loaded up. Not the movies though, you're trying to erase them from your mind.
Back to Greg. Wait, no - Physics.
Today, Captain Knoslark and his advanced research ship - The Radiant Dusk at Everest (and crew) are going to give that snotty brat the middle finger.
For today, marks the beginning of a new era of space travel. One that barely involves using space at all. Time either. We're just gonna bypass those two pesky nuisances and finally freely go from one point in the Universe to another!
Combining our research into Warp technology, which essentially just uses a Fuck Huge amount of power to rip a hole in Time-Space, with the surprising developments into short range teleportation by an independent facility, as well as [insert favorite brand of gobbledygook], we will finally overcome the issue of getting spaghetified and/or transported into the center of a star!
Champagne for everyone!
All that's left is to fire up the miniature star reactors, crank the output to 400%, and bask in the applause!
"This is your Captain speaking. Hello everyone! I'm excited! Fire it up! LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
With the message clear, the crew continued to do what they were doing. You know, following procedure and guidelines, of which there were, admittedly, less than normal given this is the first full test of this nature. it'll be fine. They said igniting a miniature star inside a reactor would blow up the whole planet, but it only took out a 200km chunk of it once, not that big a deal.
The energetic smile and tense grip of the railings Knoslark held on to for the subsequent forty minutes without letting up for a single second. It kinda got a little creepy, but the crew will never drop their poker face in front of him. They won't give him that victory.
Anyway. Again. The final step of the sequence has finally arrived and all that's left to do is for Knoslark to push the big red button on his data pad. Which he did immediately and with the most dramatically long winded motion his body could produce - swinging his whole arm from the back, over his head, and stopping just before slamming the button with his fist to gently extend his pinky finger to lightly tap on the button.
A brilliant black light in a perfect sphere engulfed the whole ship and then they were gone.
Immediately afterwards, just slightly above the surface of an unknown planet in orbit of an uncharted system in a galaxy that has a grand total of two entries across all databases. It's name - TPSC-SY398-2250074, and age relative to what the Milky Way can see - 1.8 billion years. None of that matters.
What does matter is that this planet has a new crater with a stupidly huge piece of junk lying in the middle of it. Mostly intact. Actually, who am I kidding, it's our well known Human engineering we're talking about here, the only problem is that it crashed sideways and a few fires sprung up, no worse than an overly exciting game night turned drinking party.
"Well, that was unexpected. Everyone good? Can we upright The Dusk?" Knoslark inquired right after climbing his way out of a pile of chairs, loose equipment, and three crewmen. Sergeant Ying Zhao emerged from from behind him, dusted off, relocated his shoulder, and grunted. "Seems so. Engineering - what's your status?"
"Minor leakage of non-essentials, two reactors stopped purring, could use a nap, don't let the captain say it and we'll be good." replied Chief Engineer Ira Tameki over the comms. "Negative, Ira, he's got the look already." "Groan for the two of us then." "Roger that." "Not you too..." "Sorry."
As the reports of minor damage, light injuries, and general mess came in, Captain Knoslark was pleased with the results.
"Excellent work everyone. Everyone's alive and The Dusk still works. You know as they say - another happy landing!" Knoslark said, with a big dumb grin.

House Speaker Mike Johnson is not worried about Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene as he attempts to galvanize enough of his conservative colleagues to avoid a government shutdown.
Johnson, who took over the gavel in late October following the ousting of Kevin McCarthy, is finding himself in a similar position to his predecessor. Although Johnson has met with President Joe Biden and Democratic Senate leaders to avoid a partial government shutdown by the January 19 deadline, hardline House conservatives who are worried about the $34.06 trillion national debt could derail any legislation—notably related to funding for the U.S.-Mexico border and Ukraine.
Greene, a Georgia Republican, has urged her conference to focus on domestic issues and spending related to stopping the flow from migrants from Mexico. Last Friday, she said continued Ukraine funding would be part of "a failing, losing strategy" and even floated the idea of vacating Johnson if he advocated for it.
Kaitlan Collins, host of CNN's The Source, asked Johnson on Wednesday about threats by Greene and other GOP hardliners and whether he's worried about his future as speaker.
"No, I have a job to do," Johnson said. "We all have to do our jobs. Marjorie Taylor Greene is very upset about the lack of oversight over the funding and over the lack of an articulation of a plan, as am I. All of us..."
Collins cut him off, saying that Greene is a 'no' vote on any legislation that includes Ukraine funding.
"I understand," Johnson said. "I've talked with her about it personally at great length and she's made her position very clear. We have to do our job. We have to continue to ensure that we're covering all these bases and we'll see how this all shakes out.
"I'm not worried about that. I got a job to do here. And we have to make sure we get the answers that we demanded."
Newsweek reached out to Johnson, Greene and the White House via email for comment.
Sign up for Newsweek’s daily headlines
More than three dozen House GOP members who are part of the Freedom Caucus expressed similar antipathy toward Johnson's discussions with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and the White House, which led to a proposed spending deal that includes $704 billion for non-defense and $886 billion in defense spending to be allocated by the Appropriations Committee for specific government departments and agencies.
Another $69 billion side deal in adjustments in non-defense spending was also reached in principle.
"He should have never been hired," Ohio Representative Warren Davidson told reporters on January 10, just after he stormed out of a GOP-only members meeting.
Texas Representative Chip Roy, whom Johnson said he also has spoken with regarding the negotiations, said last week that he and others were "angry" with Johnson's approach and priorities.
Johnson's job security could come further into question pending the outcome of the negotiations, combined with multiple House GOP members leaving Congress and making a currently slim conservative majority even thinner.

A feud over spending cuts between hardline and centrist Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives raises the risk that the federal government will suffer its fourth shutdown in a decade this fall.
Members of the hardline House Freedom Caucus are pushing to cut spending to a fiscal 2022 level of $1.47 trillion, $120 billion less than President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy agreed to in their May debt ceiling compromise.
With Republicans also seeking higher spending on defense, veterans benefits and border security, analysts say the hardline target would mean cuts of up to 25% in areas such as agriculture, infrastructure, science, commerce, water and energy, and healthcare.
Centrists, who call themselves "governing" Republicans, say their hardline colleagues are ignoring the fact that their priorities are rejected by Democrats who control the Senate and White House, and that spending will wind up near the level agreed by McCarthy and Biden anyway.
The result is a major headache for centrist Republicans from swing districts that Biden won in 2020 and others with constituents in the firing line of hardline spending targets.
"The reductions are so deep," said Representative Don Bacon, a centrist Republican from Nebraska. "They want to make everything a root canal."
Hardliners view the 2024 fiscal year that begins on Oct. 1 as a test of Republican resolve to reduce the federal debt and move on to reform social programs including Medicare and Social Security.
"I don't fault any individual member for raising concerns and wanting to make sure that the bill is right for them and for their district," said Representative Ben Cline, who belongs to the Freedom Caucus, the conservative Republican Study Committee and the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus.
"What there has to be is an understanding that for there to be 218 Republican votes, the spending needs to be in line with pre-COVID levels rather than the debt-limit agreement."
One significant source of frustration is hardline demands for cuts to bills that have already been vetted by the 61-member House Appropriations Committee.
"We're not, willy-nilly, just trying to give money away. We're trying to focus and prioritize," said Representative David Joyce, a member of the appropriations committee who heads the 42-member centrist Republican Governance Group.
With Democrats opposed to hardline proposals, McCarthy can afford to lose no more than four Republican votes if he hopes to pass all 12 appropriations bills before funding expires on Sept. 30.
"I do not know how they get themselves out of this jam," said William Hoagland, a former Senate Republican budget director now at the Bipartisan Policy Center think tank.
TRICKY PATH
When the House returns from summer recess on Sept. 12, lawmakers will have 12 days to complete their bills and hammer out compromise legislation with the Senate or risk a partial government shutdown.
McCarthy acknowledged last week they may have to resort to a stopgap funding bill, known as a "continuing resolution," or CR, to keep federal agencies open.
That option could be complicated by hardline demands that it include some of former President Donald Trump's border policies, which Democrats reject.
Some House Republicans say the challenges are similar to disagreements McCarthy has overcome on other major legislation, including an April Republican debt ceiling bill that cemented his negotiating position in talks with Biden.
"The more appropriations bills we can get across the finish line, the more we'll have the leverage we need to negotiate a good deal with the Senate," said Representative Dusty Johnson, who chairs the Main Street Caucus, whose members describe themselves as "pragmatic conservatives".
Failure would mean another costly government shutdown starting in October, which would be the fourth in a decade.
SHUTDOWN RISK
House Freedom Caucus members say a shutdown could be necessary to achieve their objectives.
"It's not something that the members of the Freedom Caucus generally wish for," said Representative Scott Perry, who chairs the group of roughly three dozen conservatives.
"But we also understand that very little happens in Washington that's difficult, without someone or something forcing it to happen," he told Reuters.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, the top Democrat in Congress, said last week that Republicans will be to blame for any new shutdown "if the House decides to go in a partisan direction."
Disputes over funding and policy have shut down the federal government three times in the past decade: once in 2013 over healthcare spending and twice in 2018 over immigration. A 35-day shutdown that began in December 2018 and ran into January 2019 cost the economy 0.02% of GDP, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.
This time, the slim 222-212 House Republican majority could pay a political price. A shutdown would disrupt the lives of Americans barely a year before the 2024 election, when Republicans must defend 18 House seats in districts that Biden won in 2020.
McCarthy could face the prospect of having to resort to a CR that requires bipartisan support to pass, neutralizing the hardliners, analysts said.
That could endanger McCarthy's speakership under a deal he struck allowing a single lawmaker to move for his dismissal.
Would the House Freedom Caucus end McCarthy's reign over a CR?
"I wouldn't go that far," Perry said. "That's a final option. We want to work with the leadership. We want to work with Kevin, and we think that we can."

14, 21 for maemag, 22 for gap pussy
hi hi!!! (From this list)
14. What are your favorite smut tropes?
I feel like you know them already :D But hmmmm more seriously... I think in general, I have "will think about something I initially found off-putting too hard and decide actually it is hot/fun/wtv" disease, so this would be a long and very inclusive list. I love a good power dynamic in smutfic (good in the sense of a fine vintage, not moral good), whether it's like a fun thing a sweet couple is playacting, an underlying reality for a ship, or outright dubcon/noncon. Obviously "power dynamic" can fit a billion tropes, but I love very many of those tropes for that underlying reason lmao. Also, I love when there's a lot of emotion, be it DRAMA, or angst, or hurt/comfort, or anything else. Obviously those strike different notes and it depends on the story, but like while I think it can be less "sexy" than pure porn I LOVE SO MUCH reading a good like "magical healing dick" conclusion to an arc of longing and woes. It's an orgasm of the SOUL. Or "magical healing baby spawned from magical healing dick," I am Not Immune to this (it's about the Cherishing). Also, I love those ppl on AO3 who are out there writing the most fucked up (affectionate) monsterfucking oneshots ft. worldbuilding with their original characters and original universes--doing Eru's work. ALSO I remember once upon a time being judgy about omegaverse and laugh because wow that really didn't last long on my part as soon as I opened those fics and realized there was longing inside.
21. Share a smutty headcanon about [character(s)]. (Maedhros/Maglor)
Wow who are these characters I've never heard of them before...
I feel like I need a whole essay to try to get out all my thoughts about them and it wouldn't entirely make any sense, but I think the one-headcanon version is like. Maglor longs to be claimed by Maedhros and please Maedhros and be absolved and loved and worthy & this translates well in his brain to being penetrated. Maedhros longs to feel like he can effectively take care of Maglor/make Maglor happy (something I think he has real despair and doubt about, but the resigned despair and bitterness that he can't correlates to how much he WISHES to) and also that his control issues/endless responsibility-taking are Working Actually And Perfectly Good & this translates well in his brain to penetrating Maglor (which is on unspoken offer from Maglor whenever Maglor is in the same continent and Maedhros is still breathing). Much love. I think that dynamic remains in play between them regardless of the sex act but this sure is my preference for them.
22. Share a DVD commentary on [one of your smut fic/smutty scene from a longer work]. (Mapmaking, known in my google docs folder as "gap pussy")
YEAHH okay. So this one has been lurking almost a full year (I think) as a handful of incoherent notes in my notes app, which sort of sketched out a lot of the dirty talk and action. This was very convenient for finally sitting down and writing it!! Which I had a lot of fun doing; every fic of mine for smut week has been pure self-indulgence. This fic owes a spiritual debt to Death and Taxes, an amazing russingon fic by TheLionInMyBed that was formative in my Maedhros thinking like... very early in my entry to Silm fandom stuff. I just loved Maedhros combining his politics and strategy (never turned off!) with sex and romance in such a blatant, funny, affectionate-but-instrumental way. Also, I've been making "Maglor's Gap " jokes since like. Forever, so it was bound to happen sometime.
The actual "strategy" on Maedhros' part here (aka the policies he wants Maglor to enact) is purely styrofoam porn setup and maybe doesn't really make sense, but I figured that's not what we're here for so I didn't pay it too much mind. What I did want to come through in that aspect of the story was Maedhros' affection for Maglor (kinda understated I think in this fic, but he doesn't want Maglor to die in like, say, dragonfire, and he will do all he can to prevent that. He wants Maglor to be as secure as he can, even though maintaining the siege/leaguer & his own trust & strategy mean Maglor is at great personal risk in this critical position) and Maedhros' tendency to taking leaderly responsibility (he's aware of the risk and that he's asked this of Maglor, & Himring will help out the Gap).
Also, in my head this is a spiritual sequel to my magnum opus Thine Ever, Makalaurë, despite the fact that in between these 2 Gap-era moments, Maglor by miracle of Yavanna's touch gained a pussy. This is a period I associate with a lot of hope for them and a sort of renewing of ties, testing and forging of Maglor's devotion and Maedhros' reliance on it, and Himring!Maedhros=sexiest Maedhros. I'm finding it really fun lately to write humor and dirty talk, both of which are kinda new terrain for me, so that's been delightful on my end. New terrain... ha

BILLION BENEFITS!

✦ 019 — HEART BEEN BROKE SO MANY TIMES😔💔
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you stood at the door of your office, taking a deep breath before stepping in, "hey-"
jongho stood frozen as san charged at you, "OH MY GOD- WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'HEY', WHERE WERE YOU!?"
"WHAT'S GOING ON, M/N!?!?" yunho joined san as the two sandwiched you in questions and hugs.
you break away from them, rubbing your temple in frustration. the three watch as you took the folder on your desk and scanned the documents before speaking again,
"listen, it's complicated but i'll explain later when i—" suddenly the office doors burst open, revealing none other than ms shin kyung.
"hey honey!" she pushed pass the two boys and latched herself onto you, pulling you down for a kiss. you pulled away in shock, but saying nothing.
the three boys stiffen as san watched your jaw clench, knuckles turning white from how hard you were squeezing your fists.
yunho stared at you in disbelief, "m/n, what's going on...?" he was about to walked towards you when san held him back, eyes screaming in anger.
kyung scoffed, "didn't you hear? me and m/n are dating!" she squealed, rubbing herself all over you. you furrowed your eyebrows as you avoided the sharp glares of your friends.
"um... i need you guys to step outside for a while, this is private." you said in a hushed tone as you heard san's loud gasp, yunho holding his hand over his mouth next to him. you internally thanked jongho for pulling the two boys out of the room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the three stood in silence outside the office before san broke the ice, "okay, i can't do this. i need to know what they're talking about!" san marched at the door, putting his ear on it.
"yah! there's a reason m/n told us to wait outside, you can't just-" before jongho could finish, yunho ran towards san and listened in with him.
jongho sighed as the two gestured for him to follow, which he did.
"i did what you asked, is it paid off now?"
"wait what debt??" yunho whispered in confusion as they listened, piled on top of each other vertically.
she laughed annoyingly, "why of course! you can even check yourself!" she said cockily as she slid a burner phone across the coffee table, showing chat messages between the collectors.
"alright, we're done here. you can leave."
she scoffed, "what? no we are not, unless you want your sweet little wooyoung's life to fall apart."
"i wouldn't do that if i were you."
she stiffens at your sudden burst of confidence, "and why is that?"
"because i have enough evidence to put you behind bars?"
"hah, like i'd believe you. you're not capable of doing so much in a span of not even two weeks."
"am i?" you took the folder and spilled the documents out, revealing pictures, articles and letters regarding crimes she's committed.
she relaxed for a moment before leaning back into the couch, "you're dumb for showing me this cause i can just take everything and burn it–"
"sweetheart do you really think i don't have extra?" you waved the small usb at your hand before sliding it back into your breast pocket.
you smile in victory as you stood up, smoothing out your coat. "i'll see you in court, ms shin." you almost burst out laughing at how her face dropped. she scrambled at your feet as she begged, almost crying.
"no, please! we- we can work something out—"
"you threaten innocent lives, force me into a non consensual relationship and still want to ask for a deal?" your expression shows clear disgust as she cowers on the ground.
you opened the door as the three boys fell on top of each other, "after you, ms shin." she gripped the carpet in anger before running out of the office in tears.
"OH MY GOD? WHAT WAS THAT M/N!?!?" yunho griped your collar as he jumped in excitement.
"THAT WAS SO COOL, WE NEED TO CELEBRATE!!!" san said, holding yunho's hands in his as the two jumped up and down.
"how about we let m/n explain before we do literally anything?" jongho sweat-dropped as you sat at the couch of the coffee table.
"you guys might wanna sit down for this."

hi boss,
soooo the twitter thing has gone on for a bit, a lot of firing, quitting, more firing, I've seen posts to the effect that Musk has broken EU labor laws/rules idk if thats true or not, I've seen reports that Tesla has lost about 50% of its value since Musk first floated his plan to take over twitter
and I just wanted your take on the whole thing, will twitter go down? will Musk lose everything?
The short answers to your questions are "probably, before too long" and "not really anytime soon barring other situations".
Twitter is definitely going to "collide with Brussels" as I've seen some commentators put it. For all of the European employees he's laid off, I can comfortably say he and his people never thought about any EU employment law and requirements, and so any employees laid off there would be able to pursue legal and other challenges through the EU systems, and until a proper laying off/termination is done, would still be considered employees and entitled to compensation. And he's still facing lawsuits in CA over the improper firing situation there.
Additionally, any payroll issues will add to further complaints and issues for Twitter (of which there is likely to be several all around) because of US and EU pay requirements.
Additionally, the EU has some pretty serious data privacy and information tech regulations, with more on the way, and if they end up running afoul of those regulations, they could be blocked from being used in the EU, and can face serious fines and penalties in addition. And the EU is going to be more than willing to use Twitter as a test case for the new rules coming out.
Additionally, with more disinformation and more bot and crypto and porn usage, they face penalties under any US and EU regulations or statutes *there*, to say nothing of Apple removing/banning Twitter from the app store, in addition to further advertiser exodus.
And then there's the FTC fines for violating the consent order plus any new violations or failures by Twitter.
For the fines and penalties and legal costs alone, we're talking millions of dollars - and likely from both Musk and other executives in addition to the company. And that's not including the other costs (such as additional payouts or compensation ordered by the courts should they rule in favor of twitter employees, which I would imagine they would considering how relatively clear-cut the violations are). If twitter and Musk try to get out of contracts or paying for services, they can be brought to court there too (and there's already indications that that's happening).
Estimates have indicated that Twitter has lost about 60% of its workforce since Musk took over, which is staggering to think about.
in regards to the value of Tesla, its shares have lost about 58% of their value in the past year, and Musk himself has lost about $170 billion, with an almost $9 billion loss yesterday. He had about $340 billion net worth in 2021. Depending on investments and other resources, and other revenue streams and the support of his other investors and the banks, he'll be able to hold out for a while specifically with twitter. If he continues to lose and if Twitter continues to lose money, that may change. And his other companies, of which Tesla and SpaceX are the most profitable and successful, are not super financially secure and reliant on him and Twitter, now (especially when something like 13%/just over $6 billion of the money to buy Twitter came from a margin loan based on Tesla securities, and when another 28%/$13 billion came from debt financing which means twitter has to pay like $1 billion in loans every year, which is a $500 million/year increase from previously. That debt financing is 7 times what were once the projected earnings for Twitter for 2022, by the way).
Twitter will remain, in some form, as long as the servers and code and other systems are still there - whether it loses functionality and has more issues is something else entirely. Elon Musk will continue to be ridiculously wealthy, unless he ends up being like that FTX guy or other cryptonaires and it turns out his wealth was far shakier than it otherwise looked.

hello everyone !! this is probably an overdue announcement already lmao but i think it's for my peace of mind as well because i feel guilty for being shit at interacting for the past months. (this is not me leaving tumblr btw, just lessening interactions and trying to recover from a burnout) navigation.
i don't usually like talking about things that are going on in my life because this is a safe space for me to get away from the shit happening in reality but as much as i want to escape it, it will always catch up.
the last time i posted a fic and properly interacted here was december 2021. since then, life has been a constant turmoil for the past 5 months. you may or may not know, but it's the national and local elections here in the philippines (in just a few days actually). because of that, the lives and future of millions of filipinos are so unsure. and before i am anything else, i am a filipino first.
can you imagine the son of a dictator that selfishly ruled the philippines for over 20 years, plunged my country into billions in debt (that we're still paying to this day), committed heinous crimes against humanity, and many more atrocities actually having the chance to rule over the land once more? it's absolutely sickening—how history has been easily forgotten, how historical revisionism is their main goal.
it's not an exaggeration but the 2022 elections are a do or die, now or never, good vs evil moment. the whole world is watching every move we make, trying to see if we filipinos are truly a forgiving, gullible, stupid culture or if we filipinos are hungry for change, good governance, and can fight against a political dynasty that will ruin our very democracy. they are the marcos family.
we have a good fighting chance, actually. it's why the stakes are so high. there's a woman that emerged from the ashes of disinformation, heckles, negative campaigning, and every other shit they threw against her. she is leni robredo, the lone female presidential candidate. the only one who is qualified to lead the country and lift us from the despair we've been living in for over six years. the best man for the job is a woman, and with her, we can clearly see the hope that we have been desperately longing for.
indeed, the future is female.
standing by her side is kiko pangilinan, the only man qualified to be her vice president. he is running against the daughter of our current president, the president that sowed hate and discord within the hearts of filipinos, grew troll farms, and committed crimes against humanity with his extrajudicial killings for six years. they are the duterte family.
but i digress, because of everything that is going on, i can't be the person that i like on this website. i'll still be here, lurking and probably reblogging art and fics when i feel like it but i've turned off my asks because i feel overwhelmed. i don't know when i'll really go back to writing and interacting, but this is me for now.
i hope that this time next week, life will be different. but the good kind of different, the good different that every filipino deserves.
tumindig para sa bayan, para sa kulay rosas na bukas, para sa radikal na pagmamahal. tara na, at ipapanalo natin ito, dahil sa gobyernong tapat, angat buhay lahat.
if you want to know more, i'll be leaving some links below.
the marcos revival || international criminal court goes after duterte's drug war || who is leni robredo || the last man standing is a woman || bakit si leni? (why leni) || who is kiko pangilinan || bakit si kiko? (why kiko) ||

It looks like on June 1st the US is going to default on the debt which is going to crash the global economy.
Not enough people are talking about how scary this is and that's probably because economics is confusing but I'm going to explain it really quick.
So the US debt is actually essential to the global economy (I know weird right debt is supposed to be bad). The debt is basically because we take a lot of loans and go into 800 billion dollars of trade deficits every year (when we import way more than we export, ideally import and export would be equal value but when the import is more than the export we have to pay the difference) this is fine because the US has paid off all of its loans and deficits in time the debt is just all the loans that we haven't finished paying off. A lot of countries and companies give loans to the US or a lot of people buy bonds because the interest is profitable and those countries and companies depend on the fact that the US generally pays its loans, that's why we have a AAA rating which is kind of like having the highest credit score. To prevent us from having to default on all these loans since the amount of loans and value of the loans are only rising, we just keep raising the debt ceiling and it's been working out.
Now that's all fine so why don't we just raise the debt ceiling again? well, that's because stupid fucking Mcarthy (he's that guy who was elected as speaker back when the congress had to shut down for like half a week for that election) well the reason he won is because he promised to pay off the debt, WE CAN'T JUST FUCKING PAY OFF THE DEBT. look the US has a lot of money but not that much money. But now he's in a bit of a tricky spot because he won very narrowly because a few people liked that he would pay off the debt, so if he raises the debt ceiling, he loses their support and they might just vote him out. So instead of just raising the debt ceiling, congress has been talking about plans to default which means we say we haven't paid the debt in time and we're going to pay it all at once right now which means that we have to cut a ton of welfare programs for example: Veteran's Aide, school, nutrition assistance (funding for food for pregnant people and young children), air safety towers, rail safety inspections, workforce development services, gov funding college scholarships, student debt relief, mental health support for students, support for students with disabilities, food stamps, access to healthcare, and a bunch more stuff.
Now why you non-Americans should care. the US, for better or for worse, is the center of the global economy. the US dollar makes up over half the money used in foreign trade, a lot of countries and companies do loan money to the US because it is seen as very safe to be part of the debt, and there are tons of people who invest in the US and US companies. If the US defaults it would first of all hurt all those countries that are part of the debt because those countries would not be paid back immediately and would not be able to profit from US loans anymore since the US would not be seen as trustworthy enough for that, it would crash the US economy which means the value of the US dollar would go haywire hurting anyone who uses US dollars in foreign trade, and it would hurt anyone invested in anything American.
So yeah this is really fucking scary and it looks like they're going to go through with the default so it does look like we're going to be in a recession in about 6 days especially since the global economy is already really fucked up right now and all that.

Re: population versus consumption. The problem I have is that the "low consumption" to which they are comparing are places where there is low quality of life. Population IS an issue because quality of life requires certain levels of consumption. Saying "it's just about decreasing consumption, we don't need to stop population growth" strikes me as being intellectually dishonest. What population can we have while maintaining good quality of life is the real question.

One of these things in not like the other 🤔
American settler culture, lifestyles, values, politicians, corporations, and consumers, are punching the world in the face. We are the largest settler country in the world. Our culture is more disconnected from ecological reality than any other culture on Earth. And that disconnection is reflected in our astronomical energy use.
Density is not a bad thing. I know Blade Runner uses Chinatown imagery for a dystopia setting. But that's just a product of traditional American settler values. High density = communal living = bad. Low density = individual living = good. Of course it's an American sentiment to cringe at density. Of course it's an American sentiment to see urbanism as an apocalyptic movement. Let's see how apocalyptic density in America really is.
Tumblr media
Hey, that's not so bad. That's not so apocalyptic. The high density states use less energy per capita than the low density states. American settler values frequently promote the exact opposite of an ecologically efficient system. It's okay to shake up American values. That's a sign we're doing something right.
America and the rest of the global north owe a climate debt to the global south. Several trillions of dollars. When we pay this climate debt, countries in the global south will stabilize and the birth rate will lower. When countries have low wealth gaps and large middle classes the birth rate goes down.
But even if the birth rate doesn't lower, population growth will fall. Our ecosystem is doing everything possible to kill us. I doubt we'll reach 9 billion in this century.
And lastly, sorry, but I have to show the cows again. Just to keep things in perspective.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And we're leading here too. No surprise there. That's just how American settler culture works. We do not fit in the ecosystem because our connection to the land we live on is weak.
Tumblr media
Setting a human population limit is inherently inhumane. Those types of arguments have only ever resulted in female infanticide. We can't afford to go down that route. And the numbers don't back it up. One third of the world's food is never eaten. There are 16 million empty homes in the US.
Tumblr media
Population is not the problem. Inequality is the problem.
8 billion people should not be living the "American dream" because no one should be living the "American dream." It's obscene. But if the global north pays our debts and restructures society, 8 billion people can live comfortably.
You're right about human welfare being part of the equation. The goal is to maintain human welfare while living within ecological boundaries. The countries violating global ecological boundaries have low birth rates. Population discourse lets the global north avoid responsibility for their climate devastation. 33 million people in Pakistan have lost their homes to melting glaciers. These glaciers were melted by the global north. Let's pay that debt completely before we even talk about population growth.

To be honest, I'm afraid they won't include Daeron in 2s. I mean, despite the fact that Martin confirmed it, I think the writers will still decide on their own. Because no one from the actors talks about him, no one mentions him. It would be so weird to have another blond guy show up in 2s without any explanation xd. The show set such a tone for Alicent's dysfunctional family by sacrificing book!Helaena that Daeron would look quite strange next to them. Because everyone says "Daeron will be the most normal among them." And it's kinda weird (lol)
Clear the Chickens off the runway, I'll be the bad guy.
The reason that no one mentions him from the cast is because, none of the actors most likely read the source material. They all watched "Game of Thrones" - except for D'arcy who didn't seem to do shit of anything but show up. And, to be fair, when they were cast, the edition of "Fire & Blood" that was on the shelves at the time is drastically different than the one that is out now.
I'll be blunt. The culture of Season 1 production was straight fucked and it, most likely, will fuck the show in the long run. The attitude of the production and the casting process was a giant "Fuck you" to not just the source material, but the fans as well.
Spotchnik has famously - Legendarily - hated the viewing audience and George RR Martin. Why HBO asked him to head this venture is the type of Hollywood foolishness I've come to expect. Spotchnik and some activist producers took over the show and decided that they wanted to tell their own story, not GRRM's ... and it was gonna be about the patriarchy and women's struggles rather than what "The Dance of the Dragons" was really about ... which was the corruption of Power in the hands of any gender.
Olivia Cooke and Emma D'arcy are hold outs and relics of this agenda minded Spotchnik and Hess led narrative. They were chosen, because, the political message that hijacked the project was one that appealed to them and they fit with. So, no, they didn't read any of the books - Cooke binge watched "Game of Thrones" and D'arcy proudly proclaimed not to give a shit about anything. Most likely because they were told they didn't need to, because, fuck the source material ... we're telling our feminist political story.
And the contempt for the fans and GRRM's source material was extremely evident in their press tour interviews.
Now, with Spotchnik giving his walking papers along with his dumb ideas, and GRRM back in the writers room having to emergency rewrite Season 2 and vowing publicly to keep a closer eye on the production from now on. As well as a 50 BILLION dollar in debt Warner Brothers breathing down their neck, I can almost guarantee you that Season 2 is most likely gonna be a completely different animal from Season 1.
Alan Taylor - who is taking over Production - is a extremely experienced "Keep the trains running on time" kinda show runner from the old day of early "Game of Thrones" who is about efficiency and foundation building. I don't see him having any agenda but to make sure everything runs smoothly and as it should.
As a writer myself I feel that Daeron is a perfect fit, because, he's so different from his siblings. I feel that him coming back from the Stepstone Wars via Oldtown is perfect to show a contrast to what perhaps the Greens were like before he left and what they became after he was gone. Daeron is also a perfect foil against Larys Strong who is trying to turn Alicent to the Dark Side and having that contrast with Daeron whose simple every day morality and honor could pull Alicent out of this manic tailspin and bring her prospective.
Condal said that he expects a lot of people to root for Team Green in Season 2 from the stuff that GRRM, Alan Taylor, and he had been working on. And once upon a time, Daeron was a creation that GRRM actually was interested in. Despite editing his character down recently, GRRM still maintains his extreme importance ... and highlighted him in the Blu-Ray features of the Later Seasons of "Game of Thrones".
I think we'll get Daeron in Season 2 ...
But I'm not sure about Alys Rivers, Nettles, or any of the other Dragonseed Riders - I feel they'll be in Season 3.

I hate it. I hate how all the media coverage focused on orange skies in new york city instead of the millions of burned acres in canada where the fires were burning. I hate the article talking about kites pulling boats like it's some revolutionary thing. I hate how many ridiculous plans people in power will come up with before they consider changing their own behavior (skimp out on iced coffees and avocado toast because we're too lazy to stop real estate moguls from driving up housing prices. work multiple jobs so your medical or student loan debt won't be as crippling because we'll kill billions of people before we make basic necessities affordable. recycle and use a glass or metal straw because we'd rather BLOCK THE LITERAL FUCKING SUN instead of hurting the feelings of billionaires and gas companies. and so on and so on and so on). I hate how much time, effort, and money state governments are putting into hurting harmless people instead of even thinking about helping the "worthless" people who are just an inevitable result of their horrible system. I hate that even when they don't try to target certain groups, the system does it for them. I hate how many parents will support lying, hate-fueled assholes who don't give a shit about them before they'll love their own children. I hate the lack of reasonable priorities. I hate how quickly they point fingers when the consequences of their own actions catch up with them. I hate that I have to go out of my way to find good news. I hate that so many problems are global but also too many of them are solely national.
I will do whatever my two hands can do to make the world a better place. I will help people and protect people and make changes to the best of my ability. I will sow seeds in flaming dirt. But I will do all of this out of spite and hatred for the people who crashed the car then put the steering wheel in our hands.

What do you think of the talk about forgiving student debt? (I think, personally, that it's a good thing to do on principle but bad politics and I'm really frustrated by how much people seem to equate good on principle with good politics.)
I think any point blank cancellation of debt is bad politics AND bad policy. Republicans think any kind of cancellation is a handout to people that didn't earn it and the loudest advocates of student debt cancellation won't even be grateful because the Biden administration will definitely means test it if they end up doing it. Enacting point blank forgiveness without addressing the root causes of the problem like reducing interest rates and making public college more affordable is well, pointless for future generations. And, those reforms have to be done through Congress!!
Look at it like this:
Also, from an electoral standpoint, while Biden's approval ratings with Democrats aren't great and canceling debt may marginally improve them, the real reason his approvals are tanking is because Independents think he's too progressive when he got elected as a moderate. They're really mad about inflation and for a long time, Democratic partisans didn't even admit inflation was a real issue, which is just malpractice! And, given that the majority of Independents in swing states/districts didn't go to college, a giveaway to the college-educated, who already generally make more money than non-college voters, is going to go over extremely poorly and we NEED them to not be mad at us!! Trump won Independents in 2016 and barely lost them in 2020, which is why Biden won and Hillary Clinton lost!
And, framing student debt cancellation as a racial justice issue just makes an unpopular policy even more unpopular by racializing it tbh. Americans don't like racially targeted policies and that's why affirmative action is SO unpopular even in deep blue states (see: California ballot props). We're already losing white, no-college voters by 50, do you want to lose them by 70? Due to the makeup of our electoral system, losing them by 50 means that even when Biden wins the popular vote by 7 million votes, we win the electoral college by <43k votes across WI/AZ/GA, and that's fundamentally unsustainable.
And, this is aside from the fact Biden's already canceled billions in student loans from predatory lenders and for disabled loan holders, for people who didn't complete college or were victims of fraudulent colleges, etc. This isn't for them, this is for people that went to college and aren't earning as much as their peers and everybody knows it. Like, if these are your advocates for canceling student loan debt, it's no wonder the issue isn't very popular!!

CAIRO, Dec 10 (Reuters) - Egyptians headed to the polls on Sunday for a presidential election in which Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is poised to win a third term in power as the country grapples with an economic crisis and a war on its border with Gaza.
Victory would hand Sisi a six-year term in which immediate priorities would be taming near-record inflation, managing a chronic foreign currency shortage and preventing spillover from the conflict between Israel and Gaza's Hamas rulers.
Voting, which runs from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. (0700-1900 GMT), is spread over three days, with results due to be announced on Dec. 18.
As voting began on Sunday morning, small crowds gathered at polling stations in Cairo, where pictures of Sisi have proliferated in the weeks leading up to the election. Riot police were deployed at entrances to Tahrir Square in the centre of the capital.
Critics see the election as a sham after a decade-long crackdown on dissent. The government's media body has called it a step towards political pluralism.
Three candidates qualified to stand against Sisi in the election, none of them high-profile figures. The most prominent potential challenger halted his run in October, saying officials and thugs had targeted his supporters - accusations dismissed by the national election authority.
Authorities and commentators on tightly controlled local media have been urging Egyptians to turn out to vote, though some people said they were unaware when the election was taking place in the days before the poll. Others said voting would make little difference.
"I was aware there are elections happening, but I had no idea when. I only knew that because of the massive Sisi campaigns around the streets," said Aya Mohamed, a 35-year-old marketing executive.
"I feel indifferent about the elections because there will be no real change," she said.
As army chief, Sisi led the 2013 ousting of Egypt's first democratically elected president, Mohamed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood, before being elected to the presidency the following year with 97% of the vote.
Since then he has overseen a crackdown that has swept up liberal and leftist activists as well as Islamists. Rights groups say tens of thousands have been jailed.
Sisi and his backers say the crackdown was needed to stabilise Egypt and counter Islamist extremism. He has presented himself as a bulwark of stability as conflict has erupted on Egypt's borders in Libya, and earlier this year in Sudan and Gaza.
Sisi was re-elected in 2018, again with 97% of the vote.
SOARING PRICES
Economic pressures, however, have become the dominant issue for Egypt's fast-growing population of 104 million, with some people complaining that the government has prioritised costly mega-projects while the state takes on more debt and citizens struggle to contend with soaring prices.
"Enough of projects and infrastructure, we want the prices to go down, we want for the impoverished to eat and people to have a living," said Imad Atef, a vegetable seller in Cairo.
The election campaign has been low-key, with Sisi following a typical programme of opening an arms trade fair, inspecting roads and sitting in on examinations for candidates to join military and police academies in the week leading up to the vote.
Some analysts say the election, originally expected in early 2024, was brought forward so economic changes - including a devaluation of an already weakened currency - could be implemented after the vote.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Thursday said it was in talks with Egypt to agree additional financing under an existing, $3 billion loan programme that had stalled because of delays to sales of state assets and a promised shift towards a more flexible exchange rate.
"All indicators suggest that we're going to move quite quickly after the election in terms of proceeding with the IMF reform," said Hany Genena, chief economist at Cairo Financial Holding, an investment bank.

What do I think is the number one thing nobody is talking about that is a major issue and is costing fuck tons of people money? Pay to play games including but not limited to online #gambling. There is absolutely no jurisdiction, laws, or organizations regularly checking to make sure these companies are not cheating. And they are. Like I play a couple mattel card games. They're free, but you can only play so many rounds in a day without paying. And I know for a fact that they purposely will give the AI the advantage so you burn through your credits, and then got to pay with real money (I never have. Fuck them.) Also in these games you can buy perks which give you a huge advantage and almost guarantees you the win. And that's just on #videogames! We're not even talking about online gambling which, by the way, 90% of my life I was told would never be able to be allowed online. Then literally overnight it happened. AND NO ONE QUESTIONED IT. Also happened during the worst #recession in usa history which is still going on (they've proven that people were paid more and things were still more affordable during the Great #Depression than they are right now. They call it the #silentdepression. Because nobody's fucking talking about it, but it's right in fucking front of our faces.) No regulation or people looking into their coding for all these games and websites. I guarantee you this is a multi billion dollar industry that is robbing us blind. And there's nobody to keep them in check. This is one of the few times government could be helpful, but is intentionally not doing so. I mean there's nobody lobbying for this because if anything the #lobbying is to make sure there's no regulation. It's the biggest cash grab of my lifetime that nobody's talking about. And I'm not even going to start with when we made #casinos go digital and we never checked into their coding either. You know we fucking didn't do that. Gambling is one of the most unregulated things in the United States it seems. And I think it's because of how much the government gets in Kick back. It's the easiest way to make #money for them.. No wonder the government doesn't want to do anything. They gain from doing nothing.
Side note I think the ratio should be at max 10:1. It's not like these casinos are actually contributing to society. They still get a profit, but the gamblers actually have a fucking chance. Imo, 5:1. Also I think there should be a #Lotto thing called guaranteed millionaire. They sell 1 million tickets every single day, at 10 bucks a pop, and there is five winners of a million dollars, cash in hand, you owe nothing in taxes.
But you know why they don't do that? Because that would actually redistribute the wealth. And they don't want that to ever happen. Because once we get a fair chance at life, we will never go back to servitude. And they want #debt slaves for life. There's more people in #slavery worldwide right now than there was during USA's past. Largest #prison population, AKA largest slave population.
Is the government in #oligarchy know you exist let alone work for you at all? How are your taxes helping you? Do they at all? Locally we have one of the more important Bridges being closed for 2 years. It takes you two God damn years to fix a fucking bridge? China can build a skyscraper in a month!
The #USA government doesn't know how to do anything right but war and oppression. But I will say they're very good at it. Probably the best. But that's not something you want to be the best at. Being the best at controlling your people and dictating their lives sounds like a nightmare scenario. There's no dystopian future. It's dystopian present with a even worse future in store for us.
My argument goes back to the #economy collapsing. It would make sense that's why they made online gambling. Milk us dry out of all the currency that's going to die, reinvest it elsewhere (land), then when the dollar is dead you have all the resources in either new currencies or actual physical resources. It's evil, but it's also genius. And been done many times before.
