outside of the fact that MY CHILDREN ARE TOGETHER AGAIN, i really like the changes hickman's made to the mythos. more than the characterisation of pete and mj, it's jjj i love in this.
jonah and ben working together's a nice touch, and ties nicely into the idea that og jonah gave pete a job partly because of the impact of ben's death on pete.
the "PARKER! PARKEEEEEER! oh hi pete" panels were a nice bit of humour, not too OTT. the fact that - outside of his vendetta against spider-man - og jonah is good at his job and has historically been on the side of minorities and civil rights comes through in jjj's reaction to events, as well as the conversation he has with ben.
and speaking of ben, i feel like 616 ben is mythologised a touch at times, so it's interesting to see hickman's take on a living ben parker who's had a whole lifetime with both may and pete, and how that would have informed his personality and his relationship with pete (and by extension, pete himself). it'd be interesting to know what the impetus for peter growing out of being an obnoxious, arrogant little shit as a teen into a well-rounded human being was, given the lack of ben dying and the lack of spider bite as a teen.

I just read X-Men Red #16 and no spoilers for now because it's too early (I'll post it later on under #wednesday spoilers and #xspoilers) Ororo continues to be a badass and she has to make a crucial decision, Beto is depressed, Richie just keeps on suffering and I have a light suspicion of what Al Ewing is going to do with him after this concerning what happened to the other Horsemen and I'm internally screaming about it.
But if you read Ewing's Newsletter it kind of foreshadowed what happened to Rich in this so if you read it after reading this it's a spoiler (and there's the fact that he called him an X-Men too).

Ugh. I shouldn't have read this month's Batgirls issue, even out of curiosity. Now I can't stop thinking about how frustratingly bad its portrayal of Arthur as an abuser and the concept of domestic abuse in general was.
Because that's what they tried to make it about, drawing attention to things he supposedly did to Steph as a kid, but through it all they portrayed him as a cackling super villain obsessively torturing his only child just BECAUSE.
They even threw in this really frustrating exchange where he was like, "We're not so different, Stephie. You go out in a costume too after all!" And her response was, and I quote, "You think I like hurting you? I hate it! I hate that you MAKE ME DO THIS." while punching his lights out.
Like, congratulations guys. You missed the point so cartoonishly that your heroine had more accurate irl abuser dialog than your eeeeeeevil abusive dad figure. Well done. Round of applause.
