contracts, pt 2: bonding
so, i already laid out the gist of how contracts in general work. they can be pretty basic and informal and don't require any special processes unless you decide you want them to.
for temporary contracts, anyway. if you're going to do something permanent, there are rules. of course, you don't necessarily have to follow them, you can make a very casual permanent contract if you want to, but it won't be considered a bonding under the law that way.
additionally, while you can create a temporary contract before you turn 18, minors are not allowed to permanently bond with anyone regardless of whether they have parental consent. it’s just not allowed.
an actual permanent/bonding contract is a bit more like an actual contract that gets filed with the court. it's best practice to get a lawyer to help you. this time around, things like limits and preferences are required, though there's no rule about how detailed you have to get. pretty much everyone will go into excruciating detail, though, both because that's called being a good partner, and just in case things go sideways and you need to go to court.
bonding contracts are also harder to get out of. since bonding replaced marriage, it’s pretty much the same as a divorce. it can be straightforward, if all partners agree to break the bond, but it can also be long, complicated, and messy.
but other than that, what’s the difference when you’re bonded vs just in a long-term contract?
bonded partners have all the same rights/benefits of marriage, including the right to visit a partner in the hospital and make medical decisions, joint adoption, employment/gov/tax benefits, etc
a bonding is 100% exclusive to the signing parties by default, which is the opposite of temporary contracts, but exceptions can easily be written in
bonded partners cannot be kept separate for longer than a month unless there is an exception to the exclusivity clause and written consent is obtained for all parties
^^ this includes things like hero missions, business trips, wars, and prison
as outlined in CTL, there is a clause in the self-defense law where a partner can claim self-defense for attacking a threat to their bonded, even if they were not threatened
in general, a bonding is seen as more legitimate/respectable, especially an exclusive one. essentially the same attitude for people who live together forever but never marry/have an open marriage vs people in a “traditional” marriage
note, however, that there is discrimination against exclusive sub/sub or dom/dom couples, and in some prefectures/other countries exclusive dom/dom bonds can legally be rejected or are straight-up illegal
^^ i’m sure i’ve discussed that in passing but this is because of ideas about “dominant instincts” and how two dominants can’t safely be in a relationship with just each other
so. bonding is good. other than a contract, how do you make it official?
when marriage was phased out, so were weddings for the most part, but it’s not uncommon to write vows and include them in your personal copy of your contract (so you can be as sappy and hyperbolic as you want without it being legally binding). some very traditional types will have a small ceremony, but most people just host a bonding party to celebrate. honeymoons are still a thing, though, for people who want to take them.

Firsts
We are hosting our first guest from the Russian/Ukrainian conflict. At least the first one to make it as far as our house, by way of Armenia, Frankfurt, and Vancouver. Flights of 5, 10, and 6 hrs respectively over a period of 2 days. The place she was waiting in Armenia, where she travelled to get her Covid vaccine in order to travel further, was struck by explosions along the Azerbaijan border the day after she left. Just in time. Our guest is Svetlama, Russian-born but married to a Ukrainian citizen who is currently on the first leg of his long own journey of travel visas and the lottery of permissions.
We are all getting to know one another, and there are many firsts. No language barrier, which was our first surprise, the odd colloquialism notwithstanding. She is the first in our household to test positive for Covid 19, likely picked up through one of her 3 flights, in stressful exhaustion, and in spite of full vaccination. Happily her symptoms are no worse than a mild summer cold, and the rest of the household continues to test negative. She will also heal first thanks to lots of ginger and zinc and juice and extra sleep according to a strange clock. It is her first time to Canada, where she had her first corn fresh on the cob instead of out of a can, and in the course of legal errands, her first taste of the infamous Canadian default of politeness. She is used to a much more direct and often demanding way of communication, and her first impression is that we are as a country, genuinely nice. And, that we have very few fences.
I have been thinking a lot about firsts. All of the firsts someone emigrating to a place they have only heard of must navigate after the physical transportation;  language, customs, rules and expectations that are required just to find a bed for the first night, and that first meal that likely lacks  and of the the comfort food of home. When Svetlana first talked about missing dumplings, we figured out that frozen perogies were our closest approximation. Courtesy of her culinary talents we had our first Russian salad of potatoes and beets and peas in mayonnaise and a concoction of garlic paste on a slice of garden-warm tomato that was easily the best of the new firsts for me.  The very first meal that we cooked together on her first full day was all around a centrepiece of mashed potatoes, the universal comfort food. Our first meeting was through the stutter of a video chat, but it was enough for all of us to feel reassured enough that when the time came, actual airport greetings were almost anticlimactic.  Svetlana’s first coffee on the early morning ride home from the Ottawa airport was of course Tim Horton’s, achieved in her very first drive-through experience.  When My Beloved’s employer R.K. Porter heard about our guest, their first thought was to  help with flight expenses, for which we all are grateful.
One can drive in Canada on a Russian licence for up to 60 days. Who knew?  Road signs and rules are pretty much identical. But one must get Canadian adaptations for things like lap tops and phone chargers to accommodate the differences in household voltage.Oh, and the chance of getting shot or  going  suddenly  missing after voicing a political opinion is pretty low here too.
This whole experience has come about because of war-driven firsts in the families from which my Beloved and her siblings spring; on the paternal side was a Marianovits grandfather who came from Russian-Ukrainian-Hungarian soil to make a better life here in Canada. On the maternal side were 3 Fletcher children, siblings sent from England to North America for their safety, two of whom ended up permanently in Canada. My Beloved remains indebted to all of those firsts and wants to keep alive the legacies of welcome and possibility in humble gratitude for the kindnesses extended to her own ancestors. Already, in our own little village there is a wellspring of support and resources on offer for Svetlana. Everybody wants to help because on some level, we all can appreciate the feeling of leaving home, of being the first, of having faith that we should never have to do so alone.

We’re approaching the final national final weekend, with only two more countries left to pick their Eurovision entries – Portugal and Sweden. I’ll take another look at the Portugal finalists later, but here’s my ranking of the acts in contention to be the host entry:

Honestly, I’m not particularly impressed. I never quite gel with Melfest, the particular type of pop it favours isn’t really my thing, and it takes something really special to cut through and connect with me. With all the other national finals happening, I didn’t watch any of the heats live, but I did catch up with all the competing songs, and actually there was quite a bit that I enjoyed. I’m really sad Clara Klingenström didn’t qualify, Aldrig mer isn’t quite as good as Behöver inte dig idag to my ears, but I still really enjoyed it. I also (perhaps unsurprisingly given my tastes) really enjoyed Circus X – I think it’s a better rock song than Heroes are Calling, and has a far clearer identity too. The creepy circus thing may have been done before, and I wish they’d done something a little more inventive than a straight up IT reference with the red balloon in the opening, but they put their own spin on the concept and I had a great time with it. And the ending was absolutely fantastic - those final few bars where it completely rocks out is one of my favourite moments of the entire national final season this year!
Looking at the actual finalists, Smash Into Pieces are sort of my winners by default. I was very positive about them last year, and Heroes Are Calling is more of the same. It doesn’t hit as hard as Six Feet Under did, but I’m always going to enjoy a heavy guitar riff and a strong beat as long as there’s nothing notably bad in the song, so I have a good time listening to it.
There was also one other entry that I found myself really liking, and that’s Unforgettable. Part of it was down to the staging – Sweden do always deliver there, every single one of these finalists have great stagings and strong semi performances – but I especially liked this one with the walls close them in then expand out as the song progresses, and the general 90s matrix style of it all is great visually, and fits in with the electronic influences in the song, even if it’s not got much to do with anything lyrically. But a big part of it is the song itself, I found it the most memorable of all the finalists. The little rising sequence of notes that makes up the main hook builds tension really well and creates a cooler sound that their brighter voices bounce off really nicely. I especially like the final chorus, the production there sounds almost Daft Punk influenced, and I really enjoy how it keeps the tension ramping up to the very last note.
Because of this, Marcus & Martinus are definitely my pick to win tomorrow night. I’d also be very excited if Smash Into Pieces did by some chance end up representing Sweden, but I don't think it's likely. We know Sweden will put on a great show in Malmö, and no matter what they pick they’ll bring an exciting stage show and strong performance – nothing here feels enough for a second victory in a row to me, but they should have no trouble climbing the scoreboard. Sweden will almost certainly take their performance straight from Melfest to Eurovision with no chances as usual, especially since they’re hosting. The only downside to the production value of their national final being so high is that there’s nowhere for it to go.

Questioning Tumblr Ethics just before I sleep. Basically: there's an option to opt-out of being included in AI Scraping (which I have learned is actually illegal in European Countries but I guess the EU hasn't slapped Tumblr on the wrist for this), but TOS still states that Tumblr has the right to do absolutely whatever the fuck they want with anything you post.
Compare this to the scare a few years back with DeviantArt's TOS:
Paraphrasing, DeviantArts TOS stated in what may have been a poorly worded section that "we can't be held responsible if your content is stolen by third parties outside of DeviantArt's reach", and this was misinterpreted to being something like "we have all the rights to use your content without permission" of course, paraphrasing, but when reading the TOS yourself it was clear (despite being poorly worded) that they were indeed denouncing(?) Responsibility certain uses of hosted art, the unclear part was who was using the art in the art theft basically. I dunno this was a good few years back, I haven't seen the post since maybe like 2018.
But the scary thing is that Tumblr is NOT being vague or poorly worded in their TOS and how they can just do whatever the fuck they want with your content. If you make a viral hit post like the fuckin shoelaces from the Prez meme, they can make money off it without your permission and without monetary compensation for creating the meme for them basically. And I recall them not only selling the shoelaces meme idea as actual shoelaces, but several people were stating that they not only did not ask permission but didn't even monetarily compensate the original creators behind that post.
And that's okay in accordance to the Tumblr TOS.
From my understanding of the following screenshot of the section I'm referring to in the TOS:

That's allowed because it helps promote the services and, through them acquiring money and payments, helps improve the service (or so we'd wish they would lol).
That is to say that even if we opt out of AI scraping (which is extremely evil of Staff to make it Opt-Out and not Opt-In. They know they're catching the hundreds of fanart blogs that haven't logged in in years. They know they're catching literally thousands of deactivated blogs that technically no longer exist as profiles but their POSTS all still exist and by default they have access to scraping their posts because those posts *still* exist and the original Poster doesn't exist in order to Opt that content OUT of being scraped (could be misunderstanding this technicality of deactivated blogs but this does make more sense to me than staff being nice and like "oh we won't include deactivated blogs uwuuu" leave)), with Tumblr having some shitty AI service deal, they could really just argue that they can STILL! Scrape our content if the AI is used on Tumblr itself or somehow Benefits Tumblr in any manner. Because that's considered appropriate use of our content in the TOS regardless of AI involvement.
I may be overreacting, but either way I think this AI partnership bullshit is just that. It's actual fucking Bullshit. Those blogs I no longer remember the password for are all fair game for AI scraping and even if I remember the password I know I'm still at risk for my content being used however the fuck Tumblr wants to.
AND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN like, a third party stealing content and Tumblr doing all this is that, third parties can be DMCAd. Tumblr has your permission to use anything you post for monetary gain simply by you signing up and using their services. And sure, they state this in the TOS. we agree to it. Technically they saved their ass here because we AGREE to this by using their platform. But just because they put this in TOS and therefore "we are not the bad guys, we told you clearly", does not mean this is all scummy and shady and simply a jerkass move.

Manufactured Establishment Heel Turn and Outrage
The last blog I touched upon the Trump town hall a little bit but now that a few days have passed, and I have seen the discourse and the half ass analysis from supposed smart people in the “progressive” space has been one of the most infuriating things on the planet. If you hate monitor I say and write, that is like music to your ears to know a mentally ill man is being infuriated, because when “important” people pay attention to your shit even if the general public doesn’t know I exist, they get upset with me pointing out the probabilities of the direction of some of these personalities and I will admit it is disheartening a bit to see people who were respected and seemed principled now find a way to crossover to the side that is winning the narratives, they can promote shit online about how the democrats are scared and they are trying to suppress shit so no other candidate can get a chance, but if they didn’t want us to know about this, this would not be out there, in my personal opinion, if I look at this world like a sports entertainment company and see how it is implemented into the political discourse, more people get recruited into this system and become a lot more mentally unwell, they are addicted to the need to entertain, they are addicted to trying to stay relevant in any way possible that they will become soulless caricatures trying to insist their brand of comedic banter between mediocre hosts is what is gonna do it in the long run. The way I view this sports entertainment system is that there are people who own their respective countries, and then book the politicians who are more sports entertainers now more so than politicians, and if the bookers and owners are essentially right wing, and the system by default is a right wing trajectory system with different world champions, baby faces and heels, establishment baby faces and heels, they will book a supposed babyface to say some good shit and maybe try to do some good shit, but the company will still have you pump out heel tendencies that we are supposed to blindly forget but then the “cynical” right wing types will call out an establishment guy or gal and think the other bought off politician and public figure is the one pointing at the truth about the system, so automatically he or she is seen as the heel who the establishment supposedly hates, but you constantly hear about them, they are constantly being used to make a lot of fucking money even though they reflect what the system really wants, but we think because we are online and pointing out the obvious errors and the dumbed down shit, we think we are actually thinking for ourselves. The longer a lot of you want to pretend the online shit is just as mainstream as the MSM itself, the better we will be but people don’t want that, they want more people to suffer and continue to get worse, whether it is powerless cogs in the system to have piled on abuse mentally or physically or whether it is to cross over to the elitist side where your mental illness will be protected because you are around other mentally ill powerful people who are so rich and powerful, but their healing will never happen and they will get worse and make other people’s lives worse because they refuse to admit what they are. I never seen so many people who have made it and become a lot more rich still have such anger issues, they can organize a fucking cult to make things worse. Like I have said, eventually everyone eventually throws on an NWO shirt, only to be a background player to Hulk Hogan, sure you will stand there in glee as he pretends to play his title belt like a fucking guitar. So we have to now pretend the internet is an underground as it was in the 90’s, even though I have always felt the internet was created for the purpose of building a new mainstream, and maybe there were genuine opinions and ideas being expressed but in 2023 those days are long and gone and now everyone is a character and everyone has aspirations to just be characters. You will have a click and a cult that will tell you everything you are doing is hilarious and super interesting and then they will try to dominate the algorithm to pump your name up because it will get some kind of social currency. People think because the establishment does obvious shit, that is more on the democratic side when most of these dumbed down democrats are either falling on its face on purpose because they know it is inevitable for the world to turn into something we would’ve never thought possible, and it will be faction warfare, or they actually want the right wing heel to stand tall, and make it seem like it is only fair to hear Trump. It is a hack position to point out that he would’ve done the town hall somewhere else. You know what is the most disgusting shit on the planet and I know the people I am talking about are reading this because they are mentally ill mafia like people who don’t care about the people agreeing with them because that is how it is supposed to be, someone like me who is kind of pointing out how these supposed progressives have wasted everyone’s time and basically created “progressives” to then prostitute yourself to fucking invite Donald Trump on your fucking show. You know what are a soulless piece of shit, and because you can’t deal with the fact that you will no longer be a genuine human, and that any praise and stock on the rise for you will only be manufactured because you are going along with the right leaning side because you want to be protected and be a showbiz personality since the artform has been going to the right wing and it has always had right leaning fundamentalist shit in it, but now seeping into the world of politics where everything is a fucking reality show angle and everything is meant to be exploited. We have fucking mentally ill social climbers already coming up with discourse and culture wars incase Jamie Foxx dies, then it turns out he is fine and these were rumors, then they will take us on a rollercoaster and then it turns out it was a lie that he was okay, the system do this on purpose while people will pretend that random people are making up rumors, the system are the ones always in charge with what narratives are put out there, again just a personal opinion, but seeing how discourse plays out so other studio audience members can try to be part of the cast has been one of the most prostitute things on this planet. How will anyone get better if becoming “successful” in the world means you have to become this caricature that no one will really respect, you will be surrounded by other soulless ghouls who are gonna do the system’s biddings but be careful what you wish for because they will turn you into a storyline and recruit other social climbers to discredit you, if some of these online personalities can barely handle being thought leaders with limited pushback, you are gonna break down when you make it big. 
So let me say this, this whole CNN establishment heel turn is like if John Cena turned heel officially, like people always knew there were heel tendencies that existed but now we needed an official storyline way to get there, And because the MSM have given you the impression that they hated Trump and are disgusted by him the last several years, and a bunch of political shit head analysts dumbed down Trump and generalized regular people for so long and pushed them more to the right, but they get credit for shitty Trump impressions and pointing out his obvious errors he makes so we can all laugh at him being an idiot but still thinking that some of his rhetoric has been dangerous in the most cartoonish way. But it always felt like the way these people were “anti Trump” was such a hacky and dumbed down way and purposefully ignoring the corruption on the democratic side which made a bunch of propped up accounts talk about how it is easy to go after Trump but you need to go after democrats, but it is actually easy to go after democrats because a lot of the ones who get traction are basically closet republican shit but because people fall for the sports entertainment of them opposing Trump, so people think pointing out these obvious errors that are there by design, means they are actually calling shit out, because it is basically like “OH MY GOD THE DEMOCRATS ARE FUCKING UP SO I AM GONNA PRETEND I AGREE WITH SOME MAGA SHIT HEADS WHO ARE TALKIING ABOUT POLICY AND EASE MY AUDIENCE TO ACCEPT A FAR RIGHT PERSON BY EASING THEM INTO THINKING THEY ARE NOT SO BAD” and this is not a defense of the democrats, but this 90’s reboot of our society has people actually thinking that this “indepedent” and “internet” opinion is where the genuine opinions are, when it has become part of the internet. So I didn’t buy that this sudden outrage from people about Trump being given a platform officially to make it seem like “it’s fair” when it hasn’t been fucking fair from the default. It has always been right leaning and now this was CNN officially embracing the current fascist ideals of where the world is going and even though people are now being concerned too late after he got all the stream, and has been allowed to function,  those people are doing it for self preservation because whatever happens in the future and Trump will be the face of it, it will show in the history books that people did warn about this but they did it in such a way where they ignored people’s valid points about previous ideology they were espousing and the other war criminals they gave a pass to. So this was a sports entertainment heel turn for CNN and even the fact that people like TYT will act like “Oh my god he is the leading candidate, we have to listen to him” but a lot of you mother fuckers are guilty for promoting him while pretending you opposed them, you will claim not to be the establishment, but your fucking opinions are really establishment, if I knew a lot of you would end up becoming another shitty cog, I would’ve pointed out how uncharismatic a lot of you were in but because there was some genuine truth telling, I figured that is all that matters but now you are uncharismatic and taken the easy route to protect your image and relevancy and you think because you make the most half ass analysis about shit that it means you are supposed to be a thought leader and then because you can’t admit you have been frauds the entire time, you do the typical trope of a heel promo and do the “YOU PEOPLE MADE ME DO THIS, YOU MADE LEAVE THE LEFT” not because the far right wing billionaires are wagging big time money so you become another shitty personality that are a dime and dozen. Their excuse was “Well if they censor Trump, they will censor progressives” quite the Jimmy Dore level take, when they have been censoring and fucking over actual left leaning people and suppressing their voice, which you never hear as much about, you know who I hear about being suppressed all the time? The propped up figures who get nonstop air time and talked about all the time, these people who pretend they are promoting villains to want them to get theirs and pay for their crimes, you know from the get they won’t get theirs, you can keep teasing it. But you know it is basically to promote who are gonna be the talking heads in the future. Pretending Trump wasn’t already promoted for the purpose of making a lot of fucking money and social currency, you already have shown me that you are not someone who should ever be trusted. This is why sports entertainment is the most dangerous thing on the planet, you will support people who pretend they oppose the desired villain so you are still rooting for someone who probably has sex with that same villain behind the fucking scenes. But a lot of you crossing over can’t even admit you are joining the fascist side, you are so fucking cowardly about it, you have to convince yourself you are only doing the logical thing and that’s why someone like Ana Kasparian can do stories where she talked about how people were incited to do violent shit from listening to other content creators, and normally just making it an issue about “well are celebs who are regular people and play by regular rules, do they have the a responsibility of what they are putting out there, I think not, no one can force you to do anything” but if you assume that a lot of the system is a mafia system, and these propped up public figures have their own cults that are given incentive to do shit, and I have experienced it with the Stern Show people, who have instilled paranoia and talked about my demise and my death, and even monitor my thoughts and move my cursor to show they have some presence, but when someone like Ana/Cenk cover these stories, they now are of the belief of the charisma vacuum Libs of TikTok is not responsible for what people do, and it is fittinig because Ana is still butt hurt over being yelled at for her bad faith argument in a time where bills are being passed to fuck up that community, now she can basically give up her morals and principles and basically act like these people don’t have responsibility and they are just regular people and the reason I feel that Cenk/Ana and other shit heads they have created in the media space, is because a lot of the shit they report is basically kayfabed news essentially and they would be held responsible for shit they have organized and the ruse they have created, they want to do all the mentally ill things but don’t have the balls to face up to it. When you constantly talk about how your show is the only one that is keeping it real, then expect people to call you out on your subtle cowardly pivot to the right wing so you guys can be shitty celebrities who will never truly be funny but you want a cult to actually think you are even if none of it will be genuine. Your kids and family will grow up to hate you. They will claim shit like “Wouldn’t it be funny if Trump incriminates himself even more, and we can dunk on it” people have been dunking on it for the last several years, it hasn’t worked and you are now acting like “oh my god they are really scared of him” if they were really scared of him, we would’ve never heard of him to begin with. No one at CNN is outraged about this, this was just a way for them to justify why they had to embrace him. A lot of you know what you have purposefully helped amplify and use your “anti war” persona, as a way that people will think you are more credible, and would think any criticism of you would mean that it means they are pro establishment. 
This political world comes off like they booked Donald Trump to be MAGA Steve Austin, and if that is true, then I could believe the system booked Tucker Carlson as MAGA CM Punk. See this is why the snooty higher society political types will look down on wrestling because if everyone watched wrestling and could see the elements. It feels like they have trained you to think that, because a lot of wrestling fans bought into CM Punk who might have some genuine good nature to him, but since a lot of people who hype him up are more right leaning and the entertainment seeps into political shit now, it feels like the perfect place to practice this kind of shit in this artform and even with online shit, that you can manipulate people into buying into someone’s anti establishment persona despite putting over other problematic billionaires, or normalizing more edge lord like shit in the 2010’s to cater to only conspiracy people, and this is how you get guys like Tucker Carlson to come out and people will agree with his truths on some level, despite being someone who is allowed to prosper in other areas because we think that it means he is against the played out legacy establishment institutions. Not realizing they are training you into accepting someone else who wants to have power and be the only one who benefits from it. These people want to become a religion. They want to be worshipped, Trump was like an Austin because he just give everyone stunners all the time even if it was not good storytelling at times, but we all think because it was an unpredictable time with so much intensity and vitriol being put out there under the guise of anti establishment, when eventually Trump will reveal he will shake hands with whoever the Vince McMahon in this situation is. We pretend because the system says they are against them and trying to destroy them and this person comes out looking stronger at this rate, you gotta wonder if this is all being done by design and we are just filling space until we get to the climax. But basically people will excuse the behavior now and now it feels like these insiders know the dems won’t do shit, so now out of desperation people in the “left” space will give the bare minimum respect for someone calling out corporate media when most shit is probably corporate media, nothing wrong with calling out the corporate media, but I have never seen this much of a push to call them out in 2023 because by now we all know they are corrupt, and even when it is called out, it is limited and over the last decade, they have let the far right look like they are the ones in the right, and this is why they look anti establishment to their base, they made up “wokeness” and had people with bad faith acting making so sensational and over the top that people think they are being told to do shit and not to do shit and when you do that, people push back, all you gotta say is you can’t even make fun of Muslims and people will believe it, like they are not bombing the fuck out of those countries. They can push back against anything and they still feel like heroes to their side and because cynical people have not trusted the system etc, they gravitate toward Trump and let their guard down. So it is amazing to me that people that think “Okay we need to have Trump on because the leftists will have a chance and it will fuck them over” yet when it comes to Trump’s victim who is being smeared by the funded accounts online, and Trump himself, so even if you don’t think his victim is as pure because she is aligned with democrats then people don’t care as much but why wouldn’t that argument of if Trump does this to her he could do it to people who are even more powerless. The way a lot of you worship your mentally ill weirdos who are rich and wealthy and then pretend you hate them is some next level sickness, and when they trot out rape and abuse cases for public consumption and it turns into another reality show, they are gonna gimmick up the story a bit where it doesn’t come off as genuine, but since we need to make public figures and their predicaments relatable to how regular people go through shit, because to me, in these situations there are people who are initiated by taking abuse, there are those that are in initiated in giving it, the people who I feel end up giving it, are ones who dealt with it in the first place but instead of getting better and making sure that doesn’t happen, we keep the cycle of abuse going. Tara Reade is another one who will be discredited even if what she went through was real, but I do feel like the only reason some embrace her in the space because in order for her trauma to be acknowledged, she would have to align with the new right leaning type. But people who think Biden wouldn’t have done that in the past are kidding themselves, I am not saying I know for sure but if I feel every high level person in the system had to go through fraternity initiations of doing dirt so they can succeed, then yeah I can believe most people have and I know that is a conclusion I am jumping to, but at the same time, I have seen the pattern of the last 15 years of more and more abuse being revealed and it turns into a intended shit show and we are all front row, I have no idea why I just quoted a Lil Wayne lyric from Uproar, but regardless it fucking rings true. But when I focus on TYT as my main example for shit, it is not to just specify them but the circles around their show and who has ended up leaving and becoming worse and now it feels like this has always been the con, even if they love to think they are just like regular people when they have been apart of the establishment, you can tell with their cookie cutter personalities where they are auditioning for these MSM gigs and then the MSM will suddenly not be so compromised because we have commentary and impressions from Cenk. Watching wrestling and seeing how they have trained you to see the world a certain way, it has become one of the most useful entertainment tools as well as comedy because everything has to be levitated by what is considered comedy. I am watching John Mulaney’s special that everyone praised because of what he went through, and I applaud him but in deeper ways because now that he has all the genuine comedy out of the way, he will be reduced to an Artie Lange or Jeff Hardy, where there is gonna be constant investment in his fuck ups until his standup becomes a really sad show, because it will be less about his comedy material, but more about that persona, Artie’s stand up was never really the best, it is impossible, because he is on a radio show 4-5 days a week exhausting all of his humor and people won’t hear every joke he makes with that much shit, how can someone in that enviroment really be good with their stand up. So Artie was a good concept for the powers to be to work that shit on. Now I see it with other comedians now. Most personalities are defined by their social media role, like Janelle Monae, who is one of the most talented and sexiest women on the planet, normally she has been kind of reserved but now she has become a social media character where she has to cater to the horny on main, I don’t mind seeing her fucking titties on my timeline, I am not gonna complain, but since everyone’s storyline arc has twists and turns, will it be revealed she was pressured to do it and then we will be made to feel bad for enjoying seeing her titties. Sometimes I think in order to make it stand out, there has to be a lot of manufactured controversy because both sides of the argument in some ways come off as fundamentalists, one side dictating how sexy and liberated one could feel, and the other side who pretends they are for liberation, are just regressive assholes who will only cosign talent if they are promoting sex. So if she wants to do it, I support it, but if she doesn’t and can’t say and we find out about it years later, then yeah I am right to be skeptical because of the constant gaslighting the discourse writers are with manipulating mentally ill people online. I am all over the fucking map because my mind is going in different directions, this is why I don’t consider myself a “writer” by traditional standards, I am too lazy to learn the rules but I want to run amok with run on sentences.
I just hate this idea that they are presenting Trump like they are afraid to beat him when they are not even being booked to be allowed to beat him, it looks like they are trying because you think “leaks” online mean that they really didn’t want you to see the information, when it is designed as an excuse for why a narrative changes. This is why the internet has been useful in helping manufacturing consent because everyone on it wants to pretend these conversations were just some random interactions and exchanging of ideas, and sure everyone starts that way but the more they are entrenched into this fucking world, they are being recruited through the internet and now it is at an all time level now. And it has given an excuse for people who pretended they pushed back against him, are acting like they want us to hear from him again because we need to stop him, but they know the bookers who write this shit can’t write good guy characters properly, they end up always disappointing people. So this manufactured outrage is not really outrage, it was for self preservation to show there was a warning there, and people who constantly make excuses because they oppose the “democrats” they will keep letting the far right slide and they will be the same people who will be on the equivalency of what people pushed back against with shitting on people who normalized the war on terror. That is the reality and I don’t think some of you can handle it, and because you can’t tell your audience you have sold out, you are snapping at the people and being uplifted by very far right wing accounts. Keep saying the “MSM HATES US” even though you have the same views as Anderson Cooper on this Trump shit. And I bet you any money when TYT does get Trump to show up on their panel, people really buy into the “Oh my god why would MSM like figure like Trump go on some random independent show” it is because it is not as independent as you think it is and I personally believe there has been under the table funding going on, but beware when people get outraged by TYT having Trump on their show, they are gonna act like “No we will push back” but they will get steamrolled, they might get him on a couple of things etc, but ultimately he will seem like a decent guy to their audience. They already got one of the more decent people on that show Wasny to kind of be used as a tool over this Jordan Neely story about how no elites ride the trains and people there are scared, and I am not doubting people are scared of the fear mongering is going on, but I feel this craziness is funded by billionaires, they have mentally ill people at this disposal that can be given incentive to act out so it makes people get scared so then they don’t mind the normalized execution of mentally ill and homeless people, but you are presenting this in a reality show way where they are gonna profit off this trial, and instead of saying “They are funding this kind of behavior” they are left to both sides the situation. TYT knew it would be bad optics for them to go negative on this storyline, hence why they have kept Ana Kasparian away from it, but Cenk is already trying to both sides this thing and people opposing him will be limited which makes their side look like they are just screaming about racism and executions for no reason when this could’ve been a situation where it was innocent and there was no harmful intent, but if you are a conspiratorial person like me, you think that these kinds of sacrifices are put out there to manufacture consent, and now you have TYT using someone who is from New York, and someone who happens to be black to basically kind of shutdown the people who are claiming this was an execution, and to me it is another example of them pretending that this stuff is not orchestrated with sports entertainment, which has real life consequences, so they can pretend they are judging this shit fairly and it is really disgusting, we already seen people do this with the Kyle Rittenhouse shit and now this will be another part where more “progressives” start shifting to the right wing and it is fucking scary but we are lessened by this threat because everyone partaking in it has to become a fucking sports entertainment comedy figure and it doesn’t matter if the lies you are telling are gonna get people fucking killed, as long as people enjoyed your fucking comedic banter. Cenk is even going as far as now to say he thinks it should be mandatory to serve the military for a year after high school, he is normalizing himself going back to his republican roots. People like that would see my blog and statements like a punch in the face, but these people are literally normalizing their heel personas and if you call them out on it they will think they are the victims in this because on the surface they would have you believe that people are just getting mad at a “simple opinion” when it is more about they don’t want people to get mad they are gonna align with fascists. I really don’t care if they kill me at this point. Why would I want to be here. Maybe it is a death wish, the Stern trolls will put out messages how what is happening to my distant uncle in Pakistan, Imran Khan, will be what ends up happening to me, even if it is not true, but instilling paranoia in a mentally ill man so he snaps is very sick, why would I want to be living on this planet with these kinds of people. When the system limits who you can talk to, people like me then have to find other forms of consumption onine to see if there is anyone who is gonna keep it real about shit but most people have to limit their shit even if they are doing good things, it shows me that you will eventually have to do evil and that is why you present the call outs so limited, because then it would mean the whole system will have to be overhauled. I don’t think people outside of dobes understand how rapidly progress has been made for these things. When I got Skoll in 2012 there was zero doberman breeders who left their puppies completely natural within the US. That means that ALL dobes including BYB dobes were at least docked with the very, very rare occasional oops litter by someone who could hardly afford to feed them let alone dock tails (and even then they’re more likely to illegally home dock than to leave them natural). It was uncommon, rare even, to get someone to agree to leave the ears, but no one was willing to leave the tail.
As much as I’d like to say it was people and breed clubs banding together to encourage breeders to allow their buyers actual choice, what did the trick was actually the FCI and DV forcing the issue by saying that no dobes could compete in FCI-hosted events even in non-FCI countries if they were cropped and docked, and none could be registered if they were cropped and docked or parented by a cropped and docked dog. This is actually pretty bad news for the breed because that means the FCI and DV have just cut a HUGE amount of dogs out of their breeding pool since non-FCI countries still require crop/dock in their standards, but it did mean that the majority of working breeders at least within the US are now leaving entire litters natural by default and if you specifically as a buyer want cropped/docked you’ll have to talk to them about it before the age cut-offs.
7 years ago I couldn’t find a single person currently producing litters that was willing to sell me a natural dog. Now I can easily find exactly that with very little effort.
The breed average COI is 40%. Some dogs significantly higher. Creed’s litter was seen as an improvement at about 35% 7 years ago due to being lower than average. Nowadays, breeders who are hunting for that genetic diversity are producing litters of 20-23%. It’s not chihuahua numbers (Tater’s COI is 0.2%, Fae’s is 6%) but that is half within a decade. When I’m ready to buy a doberman again, maybe (hopefully) in another 5-7 years, I hope the numbers will be in the teens. Maybe I can get that mythical all natural <15% COI working doberman.
This type of thing is huge in the breed. Only a few years ago were we warned that the breed would die out in under a decade if people didn’t do something. And while I am constantly frustrated about the amount of hemming and hawwing and refusal to do anything about that warning within the community, I’m also proud of the work the few people who took it seriously are doing.

It’s time for Wild Speculation Time with your host, ME Kyra! Ok, so we’ve all seen a variant of this at some point, right?

& even though I chose this one purely because it’s the only thing that came up when I searched, it does ask the question: “Does that mean lesbians in atla are called kyosbians?” & that is what I want want to answer today.
What is the A:tLA equivalent of “sapphic” & “lesbian.”
Let’s start with what we know. Kya said that the Air Nomads were more of a ‘love who you love’ sort of society (my words). She said the Water Tribes had more of a ‘none of our business, but don’t you dare tell anyone” sort of thing going on. The Earth Kingdom is flat-out homophobic at least in terms of law. & the Fire Nation is a little more complicated, because according to Kya, it was pretty accepting before Sozin. So what can we glean from this? Well, for the most part, it seems like something akin to “homosexual” (& slurs) would most likely be used in the Tribes & Earth Kingdom, because it’s a ‘don’t talk about it’ scenario. The Air Nomads probably didn’t bother with labels, so if they had a term, it’d most likely be borrowed from another culture. Which leaves the Fire Nation. Now, it’s quite possible that they would have more specific terms for LGBT folks, but it would most likely be in decline from the war. So, our options are: 1. The Fire Nation has terminology that’s become predominantly in-knowledge 2. United Republic citizens would be the first to coin these more specific words 3. Kyoshi’s bisexuality was well enough known that they did actually name some form of homosexuality after her Now personally, I think that last one is the most fun, but let’s exhaust our options for the second one. (& ignore the 1st because it's not as fun for me.) Who would it be named after? 1. Kyoshi 2. Korra 3. Someone other than an openly LGBT Avatar 4. An openly LGBT Avatar preceding Kyoshi I think the most likely scenario would be Kyoshi, seeing as she’s a historical symbol, but recent enough to still be relevant. It’d be weird to call someone ‘korran’ or whatever if Korra’s still hanging around. But why are we naming it after a person in the first place? Short answer: that’s what English did.

But this begs the question: If A:tLA had a Sappho & she’s Kyoshi, what would Lesbos be? Kyoshi’s home obviously, which is named Kyoshi Island. Right? Well, not always. Its name before she separated it from the mainland was Yokoya Port. Since we make a distinction between sapphic & lesbian, I’d say Yokoya wins out. & as I said before, it’s less weird if it’s historical. Someone from Lesbos is still a Lesbian, but someone from Kyoshi Island is not Yokoyan. So lesbian=yokoyan; does that mean sapphic=”kyosbian?” Well sapphic comes from the Greek “Sapphikos” so we’d probably do the same thing & put ‘Kyoshi’ into the genitive case. Her name on the mural shown in “Avatar Day” is written as “虛子.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda: I’ve been writing in lockdown

In his head, Lin-Manuel Miranda has an alternative timeline of what he would be doing right now. The 40-year-old would have recently finished filming his directorial debut, for one, the Netflix adaption of the Broadway musical Tick, Tick... Boom!, which survived just ten days of shooting before everything shut down. Right now, he says, he should be in the edit.
Instead, he’s on a Zoom call, talking to GQ from his home about a filmed version of Hamilton, which wasn’t due out for another year, and he’s apologising for the fact that it doesn’t say “Lin-Manuel Miranda” on his screen, but “Lin-Sebastian’s dad”, as it “defaults to the time I did a parent-teacher conference”.

So, Hamilton is coming to Disney+, which is incredibly exciting – and a year earlier than planned. Talk me through how that decision was made.
We realised pretty early, even when the show was off Broadway, this is going to be a tough ticket. And we sort of realised there’s value in capturing what it feels like in the theatre with this company. And the three days we shot this film was the week before the principals started to leave. We all left the following Friday. So it’s the best rehearsed cast maybe in the history of movies – we were performing and what we’d spent a year doing. When lockdown happened we had around 75 per cent of it – enough of an original, a rough cut, to be able to sell it to Disney and partner with Disney. We didn’t have a final edit. We didn't have a sound mix, which in a musical is pretty important. But once it became clear there was not going to be any theatre for the foreseeable future, we all kind of pivoted and said, “Oh, this is actually an opportunity to remind people of the power of theatre when there is none.” And so we got to editing and then it just became like racing. We turned in the final cut, like, two weeks ago.
How do you feel generally about the future for Broadway? Are you optimistic that it’s going to bounce back?
I’m optimistic. I’m not optimistic about any kind of timeline. Like I don’t know what theatre looks like on the other side of this, particularly in the absence of a vaccine. One of the books I've been reading during this lockdown is Will In The World, the biography of Shakespeare by Stephen Greenblatt. And I read it because I wanted to know what did Shakespeare do when the plague shut down the houses? Because there was that sort of meme going around, you know, “He wrote King Lear, what the fuck are you doing?” It’s not entirely accurate. He did write some sonnets. Those are pretty good. But it's, you know, that uncertainty. When we make our calling where people gather, it’s a real one. And what I'm encouraged by is honestly the fact that given that there are no shows right now, it’s actually a time to tackle some of the more systemic issues with our theatre we need to talk about. How to get an audience for Hamilton that is as diverse as the cast on stage. We're in talks, just for ourselves in this moment – at a time where we're talking about systemic racism in the United States – on how to make backstage look more like on-stage; how to address some of the inequities when it comes to black folks and people of colour in the theatre industry. It’s still so predominantly white backstage and at the top, so I think we're seeing people getting their houses in order because there's time to do it and no one has the excuse that we're very busy programming our season. So I can only speak for the Hamilton company, but we are hoping that when we come back, we come back into a world where we're addressing some of these issues and we're having the tough conversations.

Yourself and Hamilton are natural kind of bedfellows with the Black Lives Matter movement. But you did take a bit of criticism for not maybe speaking out early enough? Was that just an oversight?
Yeah, absolutely. And I called it a moral failure. And I stand by that, you know. I had been tweeting about Black Lives Matter since 2015. I remember us rehearsing “My Shot” for the first time when we heard the there was an acquittal for the police officers who murdered Eric Garner and how heavy that felt in the room and how we cried in the room. But for some reason, the moral blind spot is not bringing Hamilton and its social channels as a brand in alliance with that earlier. And so, you know, I think we're making up for lost time in that regard. And you're right, there are natural bedfellows. We are a company made up of black and brown actors who reckon with the origins of our country every night on stage.

Something that always stays in my head is when you hosted SNL just before the 2016 presidential election and you sang at a picture of Trump in the corridor “Never gonna be president”, which was so funny at the time but is hard to watch now. How do you look back on that?
The night before we'd heard the Access Hollywood tapes. I don't think we've ever heard such vulgarity from a presidential candidate full stop. The fact that that was not career ending, I don't know what that says. But whatever it says ain't good. But, you know, it is unprecedented that a moment like that happened. And still millions of people said, “This is our guy.”
How are you feeling about the upcoming election?
I am feeling… I don't know. I'm feeling uncertain, as everyone else is. I think people are certainly energised. I think there is a lot of… I think a lot of what you're seeing in the streets and in the world is the country really loudly saying, “This guy does not speak for us” and “The integrity of our voting system is more important than ever.” And that's a big concern of mine. But I have no doubts that the majority of this country does not believe that this president speaks for them. It's just a matter of that being reflected in the voting booth or in the mail and voting situation that we will probably find ourselves in. We've seen there's no bottom. There's no bottom to the guy's actions. I feel positive that more people are speaking out. I feel positive seeing that the overwhelming majority of these protests have been powerful and peaceful and, like, with masks and people handing out sanitisers… I've seen the peaceful protests myself in my own neighbourhood. And none of that changes unless we actually dismantle the systems that set them up. You know, it has to be followed – the lip service has to be followed up by meaningful change. I'm encouraged when I see that Minneapolis is looking to reallocate those police funds to the community. I'm encouraged when I see action. It’s very easy to tweet, but much harder to dismantle these inequities.

I guess everyone would want to know if you’re working on another stage show. Any ideas in the locker for that?
Yeah, but I can't tell you. I mean, it's weird, because I kind of messed it up because Hamilton had such a public birth, right? Like, I didn't know the Obamas would call and say, “Do you have anything about America and can you perform it at this podium?” But I did. And so that that was the most public writing I've ever done, because I kind of showed everyone the ultrasound in 2009 and then I didn't finish it until 2015. So I can't write that way again, because the scrutiny on me is so much greater now. And, you know, the best idea to kill an impulse is to talk about it. But, yes, I'm writing some new things that I think would work nicely in the theatre and I have some time to do it.
OK, so without asking you to give the game away, can I ask how far you are through the writing process for it?
I'm writing the first three or four songs, which I'll rewrite once I find out what it's really about. You know, because you start thinking you know what it's about and then if you get lucky in a place, it starts to tell you what it's about. And you go, “Oh, shit, I thought I was writing it for this reason, but I'm really writing it for this reason.” So I'm writing the initial impulse songs right now and it'll tell me how much I did.

The Great Internet Debate
Since the tail end of 2020, many Australians were informed by Google of a political stoush between big news corporations and the tech company behind our favourite search engine. The open letter to end users read like a doomsday spiel – spelling out the encroaching disaster if a mandatory news code came into effect. The proposed legislation – the News Media Bargaining Code – was explained as a means of paying for news content when all that Google did was provide the necessary links for people to ‘choose’ what content they actively consumed. Google also advised that the News Media Bargaining Code would make it unfair for small businesses as larger media companies would be informed of algorithm changes ahead of time and be given data on users to maximise coverage.
A grim picture was painted. Why should big news media companies receive data and information about everyday users of a search engine? Why should their links be propped up higher than other smaller outlets?
At the start of 2021, after a Senate hearing, Google also warned that the proposed legislation might lead to the removal of Google Search in its entirety in Australia. Why? Because why should it pay to just provide a multitude of links based off whatever a person is searching for?
I know that as a writer, most of my searches aren’t news related. In fact, they’re mostly about things people wore in the 18th to 19th century. I ask the internet when doorknobs were invented or the nature of horse care. There was even one enquiry that might have put me on alert lists across the world: how long does it take for a body disposed in water to rise to the surface?
But that was important for a very singular scene in my story, all right! Murder happens in my stories! I just want to make sure that I’ve got all the facts right as well as the science!
What Google, and by extension Facebook, failed to address was the uneven distribution of ad revenue when it comes to large news media. With the advent of the internet, it’s become much harder for traditional newspapers and television stations to accrue the wealth they had.
The news media Bargaining Code however would force huge tech giants to negotiate with each individual news corporation and find a way to ensure a ‘fair’ means of distributing ad revenue by entering into commercial agreements or be subjected to arbitration. In this way, jobs could be kept and journalism could be regarded, once again, as the respected profession that it should be. So, to be honest, it does sound like a noble thing to do in order to support struggling companies.
As for my personal opinion? Well, I’ll be honest with you. I’m not entirely swayed by any one side. There are pros and cons to each.
My own experience with the search engine is indicative of this. The only time I’ve used Google to search for the news is when I’ve been too lazy to memorise the actual link for ABC News. Otherwise, it’s very easy to simply type into your browser: news.com.au or smh.com.au
Often, I feel that the one great problem with these news websites is their inability to modernise and to accommodate a generation that prefers immediacy. A lot of news websites, based off the newspapers that are still being published, have arbitrary gatekeeping with regards to the number of ‘free’ articles that can be viewed each month and an exorbitant subscription fee.
Let’s, for the sake of argument, use the Sydney Morning Herald as an example. Most of their articles on their main website have intriguing headlines and a small excerpt for what the article is about. One can easily get the gist of the content readily available simply by skimming over the content. There’s no mystery or anything too attention grabbing.
If one were curious and wished to learn more, they’d simply click open the article.
But this is where the Sydney Morning Herald falters a little.
Ad revenue, as most people know, is driven by clicks. The more clicks an end-user makes, the more money a company can make. Perhaps, it’s true, that news corporations could make a few more dollars by partnering with search engines to ensure that ads on their website are linked to whatever other websites that the end-user was previously poring over. After all, I’m not as interested in say a NAB home loan than a new game that’s come out.
Yet the crux of the matter comes from the very fact that the Sydney Morning Herald only allows five ‘free’ articles per month. In order to get around that, one needs to ‘subscribe.’ And the subscriptions aren’t very cheap. Particularly for the younger generation. $3.50 a week sounds nice, but if you add it all up, it can be quite significant. Annually, the Starter Digital is $160 per year.
Not a choice most people are willing to dip their toes in when they also have to pay for Netflix, Stan, Disney+ and a whole host of other things that catch their eye.
So, how does something like the Sydney Morning Herald make money when paper is all but dead? One thing they could implement is additional ads on their website and perhaps at the top and bottom of their articles. They could also stop hiding their articles behind paywalls. No student has the money to pay for it, particularly when they’re only using the website for a school project.
Lower your subscriptions and give more back to the consumer. Make it more appealing.
News.com.au might not have the cleanest reputation, but their headlines catch the eye. It might be click-baity as all hell, but in this day and age, it’s what helps it to survive.
It’s not a perfect solution, true, but it might give them a little bit more of a boost.
And instead of only relying on the written word, it might be prudent now to create more videos to elucidate the topics they want to explore. Particularly when it comes to news that most consumers want on a more instantaneous basis. These days, video streaming is the way to go. Three-minute or five-minute videos are pretty easily digestible. And a lot of it can be monetised. It might not be a huge amount of money, but every little thing counts.
Investigative journalism, on the other hand, would need to be well researched and thought out. You can have a written article and transcript or you could have a well-plotted fifteen-minute video. The dialogue needs to be snappy yet informative. News needs to learn how to target their audiences instead of catering only to the older generation.
As for recaps of movies or television shows? You can’t go wrong with James Weir and his commentary. I might not watch Married at First Sight or the Bachelor, but I’d almost definitely read his recap of the episodes because of his biting comments and snide observations.
APPEAL TO THE LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR!
Make your websites lively. Make them relevant. Grab the attention of millennials and Generation Z instead of pandering to baby boomers.
Beyond that, find ways to adapt in the current marketplace. So many YouTube creators have to constantly find ways to get around changes to the YouTube algorithm. They complain, sure, but in order to be fair, no one content creator should be told what the changes will be beforehand.
Above all else, negotiate in good faith. And stand your ground. Google and Facebook should not just threaten to remove their services from the good people of Australia just for few million dollars in ad revenue. But, there’s also no need to demand algorithms or have your links unfairly pushed to the top of Google Search and quashing smaller independent voices.
Even if Facebook were to take away the ability to share links, though, I’m sure people will still be able to make do. I know that I, for one, could very easily summarise an article that I’ve read. And if someone wanted links...well...I’m sure I could devise a method to provide an alternate solution to do so. 
In any case, depending on how Google reacts, this humble blogger might have to think about investing in a VPN. Which, unfortunately, might see local Australian businesses suffer because the massive search engine I’m using would be defaulted to another country somewhere in the vast piece of rock we call home. Of course, in saying that, we do still have Bing. So, you know what? Everyone, it’s time to put Bing on the map and make it a serious contender against Google.
So, despite my limited understanding of the entire kerfuffle that’s been kicked up between Google and traditional news media, that is my two cents on the situation. Greed is not good. And don’t use a good honest people as hostages to the regulation of the wild west internet.
Edit: By the time this post goes up, Google has come to several agreements with major news corporations in Australia whilst Facebook has removed all news content for Australians. Which means no sharing of links to news websites for all of us down under.
Unfortunately, news wasn’t properly defined and so many other pages had their posts wiped, such as emergency services and a member of parliament. Here’s hoping that Facebook will also put a stop on conspiracy pages and anti-vaxxer propaganda.
Further edit: After a week of removing news content, Facebook has reversed its decision.

Nearly as soon as the double doors were opened for her at Lotus Entertainment, Sonia Nevermind felt stifled. It wasn't even the multitude of smiling faces, from the CEO and Borghese Family Capo Isabella and the various tutors and instructors not otherwise engaged with trainee and debuted idols alike, or the thick stench of Isabella's Versace perfume. It was a tension in the air, one that broke through the happy expressions and lavished praise upon Hope's Peak's Ultimate Mafia Boss, the current underboss of Europe's most lucrative and successful crime family, and settled upon her shoulders. Sonia had gone from school, to her penthouse condo, and finally to the high-rise in downtown Towa City that served as Lotus' headquarters. From floors devoted to publicity, to dance and recording studios, to the dorms, the structure operated as a one-stop shop for the Japanese idol machine known as Lotus: the only one owned and operated by a woman, and a gaijin woman at that. It was the music industry's most well-known and best-kept secret: it was run by the mafia, and bringing that to the attention of the police or using it as slander was cause for death. After the first dozen mysterious murders, the industry had learned its lesson, as did most of the restaurants, nightclubs, concert halls, shops, anything the Family and their idols needed to keep the recording company and its stars afloat.
But it wasn't enough, at least not for the trainees and idols with less-than-ideal debuts. The students there, all close to Sonia in age, were either signed by their own accord or, far more likely, performing to pay off favors and debts their families had made with the Borgheses. In a desperate attempt to keep their performers pristine, it wasn't uncommon for Borghese soldiers to pay a visit to families their idols never saw, pressuring them to make sure their children provided a good return on their investment and that they wouldn't default on their deals. The pressure was too great, especially for the newest idols to debut. As Sonia smiled, tight-lipped and shifting her weight in her cocktail dress and stiletto heels, one young woman burst out of the crowd of idols who had paused their practices to gawk at the Ultimate Mafia Boss, many not believing she really was eighteen until they laid eyes on her. For most of them, it would be the closest they'd get to the blood family of the Borgheses and its feared Donna, Valentina Borghese.
"M-Miss Sonia!" She sputtered, stopping less than a meter from the blonde. With thin limbs and lank, droopy hair, the combination of strict diet and exercise in order for her to retain her "idol look" had done its damage. Or perhaps it was the sheer stress of it all, settling in dark circles under her eyes, her shaking hands, and a nervous sweat that broke out over her face and arms. "I'm...I'm Yuki, my debut was six months ago? I'm very sorry that my concerts and meet and greets aren't going as well as you'd like, but I'm trying very hard! It's just...it's just that my family has nothing more to send to the company. But I thought that maybe if you listened to my debut songs, maybe play them at a party? That you could help get the word out. I'd be forever grateful!"
Before Sonia could get a word in, the other girl dropped to her knees and fully bowed, prostrating herself before her. She tried her best to stay stern but concern creeped into her blue eyes, accented with black liner and shades of gold shadow to compliment her one-shouldered violet dress, which hugged her form and stopped just above the knee. But the dress was the least of Sonia's problems: right now she had a shaking fifteen year old at her feet, terrified for her family's lives and dripping sweat all over her Jimmy Choos. And she had an air of authority she needed to keep, especially as Isabella was intent on taking her and several of Lotus' far more successful idols out for a meal that night, hoping Sonia would pass on a good word to her mother and perhaps cover up Isabella's indiscretions involving Host Clubs and Pachinko parlors owned by their affiliates, the Kuzuryuu yakuza family. She had to think fast, to assure Yuki that there was no need to fret and if she could, to get some rest.
"Please, there's no need for this," Sonia sighed with a gentle smile, stooping to her knees and taking the girl by her bare arms, pulling her to her feet. "I'll listen to your songs. Do you have a USB drive I can have?"
It was enough to make Yuki squeal with delight, reaching into the pocket of her sweaty tracksuit to produce the stick drive Sonia requested. After thanking the blonde profusely, she quickly bowed to Isabella before darting back into the crowd, tears joining the sweat on her cheeks. Sonia smiled awkwardly, holding the stick between her thumb and forefinger. In the process of comforting the younger girl, her hands and the drive were now covered in sweat.
"Oh goodness, what a mess," Isabella sighed, flicking her dark brown hair over her shoulder. "Yuki's such a basket case, no wonder the fans can't warm to her. Please Sonia, take this and allow me to escort you to a restroom. At this hour, you should not be disturbed while you wash your hands."
"Yes, I'd appreciate that Isabella, thank you," Sonia nodded, watching the woman reach into her handbag for a hankerchief, revealing the inside of her left arm in the process. Like every high-ranking position in the Family, she was branded with a unique flower. In her case, her lotus tattoo in shades of pink and purple stood out against the delicate skin of her forearm, one she hardly paid attention to as she passed the white cloth to Sonia. Unlike plenty of Borghese Family members, Sonia included, she kept her family affiliation in an easily visible place, if just to strike fear in the hearts of idols and idol hopefuls. Wiping at her hands, she followed the woman into the elevator, taking it to the seventh floor, a quieter floor of the building primarily serving as idol apartments. "I imagine this floor should all be at various practices, so you'll be fine. I'll wait for you with the rest of the team on three so we can begin your brief tour and studio updates."
Sonia affirmed her approval before disappearing into the bathroom. The bathing areas were all co-ed, something that only worked and kept the idols distraction-free due to the rule in each and every one of their contracts: dating and sex were strictly forbidden while under contract with Lotus. Only once the door had closed did Sonia sigh deeply, her plastered-on smile turning into a concerned frown. She'd have to bring up Yuki's file once she was home and away from Isabella's prying glances. Surely there was something she could do for her, but to see a girl so close to her in age and so desperate and fearful for her life and those she cared about...it distressed the Borghese heir more than she could ever let on. Slipping the thumb drive into her leather handbag, Sonia moved in the direction of the sinks. But as she turned on the faucet, her eyes widened: the cold tap she now set her hands under was not the only source of running water in the bathroom. The nearest shower, with its glass-paned walls and doors that left little hidden beyond the steam created within, was also running. And it had an occupant.

It was enough to make her head turn, to make her forget about the icy water that streamed over her palms. Through the pockets of steam both in the shower and the rest of the bathroom, Sonia could clearly make out exactly whom she was sharing the facility with: Nagito Komaeda. Nagito, Lotus' most popular idol whose songs, dances, and perhaps most importantly, his good looks seemed to captivate fans across the country of all ages. Sonia had barely talked to him before and yet even she couldn't escape his visage: from giant billboards across Towa City, promoting his next concert or some product endorsement, or the fact that the Ultimate Idol was part of her class at Hope's Peak, Nagito (that was how his fans called him, anyway. Last names were irrelevant. When interviewed by the market research division, it was clear his fans went on a first name basis with him if only to fancy themselves close to him. Preferably as his lover) was, quite literally, everywhere. And now he was here before her, clear glass and steam the only barrier between her gaze and his pale skin, lean physique, fluffy hair, and green eyes that fans and employees at Lotus alike melt with a single look. As the clouds of steam both formed and dissipated, Sonia was treated to a view of his shoulders, the muscles in his upper arms and chest, and clean lines that tapered down his torso to-
Oh hell. She looked. Not that the steam had given her much to see, but Sonia had actually looked there. She needed to finish washing her hands, she needed to leave before-
Sonia swallowed. Before she could finish her train of thought, his green eyes and locked with her blue. With a sharp intake of breath, it was now painfully clear that Nagito Komaeda had caught her looking. At least she could play off the pink color of her cheeks as due to the heat in the bathroom. Didn't he have his own apartments, whether located at Lotus or elsewhere? As the highest-earning idol, it was custom to give private living arrangements as a gift. Why was he using the dormitory bathroom? And why was he running late? He was supposed to be part of the dinner party leaving in thirty minutes. But those were questions she couldn't bring herself to ask in the moment, as she tore her gaze away from his pectorals to his face, though it was a far more difficult task to look him in the eye. Just...just fuck. This is not good.
"I...um....I needed to wash my hands. I needed soap," She quickly clarified for him, her eyes still locked on his as she blindly reached for the hand soap on the edge of the sink.

Oslo 2010 – Semi-Final 1
Host: Norway Slogan: “Share the Moment” Participants: 39 Voting method: 12-point system (50/50 system - combined) Format: 2 Semi-Finals / Grand Final = the top 10 of semi 1 & 2 + the Big 4 + host General Overview: The 2010s decade of Eurovision opens in Oslo; which means a return of Nordic humour! The three presenters are Erik Solbakken, Haddy N'jie and Nadia Hasnaoui, who interject some comedic comments throughout the night. They're also professional in their approach. This trio seems likeable so far. In contrast to previous years, there are no opening acts in the semi finals in 2010. The show begins with a brief video montage and the hosts welcoming the audience, but otherwise we jump right into it! One of the intermission segments involves numerous crowds screaming at cameras, which got annoying and went on too long. The main interval act (“Human Sounds”) is odd and quirky, however. It's basically a series of clips showcasing people creating sounds with their bodies. It concludes with an opera singer shattering an audience member's wine glass lol. The 2010 contest sees Andorra, Czechia, Hungary and Montenegro depart, while Austria and San Marino extend their absences. The only returning country is Georgia following last year's suspension. As a consequence, the number of participating countries is reduced to 39; the lowest since 2006. This was partly due to the global financial crisis of the time. Andorra has yet to return (as of 2020), while the rest will reappear sometime this decade. Starting in 2010, the 50/50 system is implemented for the semi-finals, and not just the Grand Final. Subsequently, this year the juries prevented Finland, Lithuania and (ironically) Sweden from qualifying. Bosnia, Israel and Ireland took their places. The are a few notable disparities between the televote and the jury vote in SF1. For example, the jury-heavy songs include Portugal and Bosnia, while the televote-heavy songs include Greece, Iceland and Russia. Belgium also won the overall jury vote by a wide margin. On the flip side, both metrics ranked Latvia in last place. Another important rule change occurred in 2010. For the first time ever, the viewers could vote during the performances, with the phone lines opening at the start of the show. This will be the case in 2011 as well, until the EBU reverts to the standard 15-minute window in 2012. I assume this change was intended to alleviate the disadvantage of the early running order slots. Quality-wise, this is a remarkably weak semi-final. It's filled with bland and bizarre entries. Indeed, my 9th and 10th qualifiers were chosen by default. Interestingly, nothing from SF1 lands in the eventual top 5, and only two of them are in the top 10. Still, this semi has some classics and fan-favourites. ✓ Moldova: SunStroke Project and Olia Tira - Run Away So the first Eurovision performance of the 2010s is... an Internet meme! (it features “Epic Sax Guy”). Considering that meme culture will largely define this decade, it's a perfect introduction. “Run Away” is campiness done right, without being cringe or pretentious. Mostly because the artists deliver the appropriate energy on stage. Moreover, the performance is immediately eye-catching, thanks to the clothing choices, the excessive eye make-up, the spinning dude with a neon violin, and of course the hip-thrusting saxophonist. The visuals also establish a party night aesthetic. As for the song, “Run Away” utilizes a wonky chorus structure that involves abrupt pauses and blast-offs, supported by a jittery violin and a pulsating motorized synth. It's turbulent but catchy. It's also an escape/release of the anxious claustrophobia expressed in the lyrics. The song breathes melodrama and panic. Elsewhere, the sax riff adds another quirky component to the mix, and the dance/club production is very 2010. In conclusion, “Run Away” is what a novelty entry should be. Strangely, it only finished at 22nd, although SunStroke Project will get a top 3 placing later... ✓ Russia: Peter Nalitch and Friends - Lost and Forgotten “Lost and Forgotten” is a satirical parody of depressing and mopey break-up ballads. Accordingly, the arrangement exaggerates its dreary nature, as the narrator feels ignored by his love interest. The mood is completed by falling snow on stage, and by the band wearing winter clothes. But the pivotal joke happens after the “I'm looking at your photo” line. The lead singer literally pulls out a hand-drawn sketch of his ex. He stares at the photo heartbroken, while a band mate tells him to burn it. It's soooo stupid that it's ironically amusing. Otherwise the melody drags too much, the vocal style is unattractive, and the “wooooo”'s are silly, but the chorus is passable. The folk genre makes it sound better.  × Estonia: Malcolm Lincoln - Siren Is this three joke entries in a row? The Baltic countries love to send these eccentric/trolling entries, but most of the time I do not understand the appeal, and “Siren” is no exception. The staging is beyond bizarre. The pianist is so extra, the spinning camera makes me nauseous, and the dorky dance moves aren't endearing. One of the backing singers collapses at the end too. It just seems “try-hard” to me. Furthermore, the song is extremely dull. The piano-lead verses are too minimalist. The pacing does pick up in the chorus, but that chorus goes absolutely nowhere. It perks up, then resorts to a monotonous rut. Which does capture the theme of feeling stuck in life. But it's aurally unsatisfying. × Slovakia: Kristina - Horehronie How is this a DNQ? “Horehronie” is easily Slovakia's best Eurovision entry, although that's not saying much. The wood-clanging percussion beat is both inventive and addictive. The stomping rhythm really drives the song and keeps the energy afloat. And it illustrates the sounds of the Slovakian forests (which cover 40% of the country, apparently). The title “Horehronie” refers to a popular tourist region there. Kristina views this place as her sanctuary, where she finds peace by connecting with nature. The lyrics, the wooden beat, and the plant-based outfits combine to create that nature imagery. I like the green aesthetic. The pan flutes and the chanting lady are nice additions too. That said, the song becomes monotonous before it's over. × Finland: Kuunkuiskaajat - Työlki ellää Another Ethnic-influenced entry that should have qualified. Finland even reached 6th place in the televote, but the juries tanked it. “Työlki ellää” is just so innocent and jubilant. The song is a folk music jamboree with a bouncy melody, and it encompasses the accordion, the fiddle, and well-timed hand claps. There's also a whirlwind of tempo shifts. The decelerations and accelerations are gimmicky, though, and they're my least favourite aspect. Still, “Työlki ellää” is a fun song. The ensemble delivers radiant energy on stage and spry dance moves. The luminous white outfits complement the vibe. And it feels nostalgic in a way. Lyrically, the song analyzes the songwriting process, the origins of inspiration, and how playing music is a livelihood.  × Latvia: Aisha - What For? Latvia's list of existential frustrations finishes in dead last. Likewise, Finland 2005 and Cyprus 2006 also DNQ'ed when they attempted this theme. My theory is that Eurovision is a form of escapism and viewers aren't interested in facing such heavy subject matter. Indeed, “What For?” conveys a weighty, gut-wrenching tone, where Aisha is despondent by the lack of answers to life's deep questions. For example: what is the purpose of death and suffering. But some of the words are too shallow (ie. “Why are the skies so blue and mountains high?”) or too silly (“But [God's] phone today is out of range”). Oh, and Aisha's vocals are unpleasantly tone deaf in the verses. Yikes. On the positive side, the chorus is salvageable thanks to the sloshing production and the escalations of the “what for”s. ✓ Serbia: Milan Stanković - Ovo je Balkan Bop! “Ovo je Balkan” is so catchy and upbeat. The song involves an addictive beat, a perky bounce, and a flurry of horns that sound characteristically Balkan. It also utilizes repetition and stutters cleverly. Namely the “heeeee-e-e-e-ey” bit, the numerous “Ljubica”s, and the “Balkan Balkan Balkan / hop hop hop” section. The latter is also distorted like a radio broadcast. Milan meanwhile supplies flirtatious charm and a bright smile. He has natural charisma. As for the staging, it fulfills the requirements to be visually complete. For example: the circular walled platforms, the “robotic” female dancers, and Milan's uninhibitedly giddy dance moves. Not sure what I think about the outfits though. All in all, “Ovo je Balkan” is an obvious qualifier. Although the song has a high burn rate. ✓ Bosnia & Herzegovina: Vukašin Brajić - Thunder and Lightning (It's getting exciting). So “Thunder and Lighting” projects a relentlessly, overpowering, “epic”-sounding atmosphere thanks to a dramatic guitar line. It replicates the intensity of a thunderstorm as Vukašin encourages reconciliation with his estranged lover. But there's something underwhelming and basic about this song. I expected more. The structure sticks to a generic template, the instrumentation isn't that dynamic, and the lyrics are cliche. The stage utilizes the smoke machine and flashing lights, though. The dark aesthetic of the 2010 contest suits this one. But overall “Thunder and Lightning” isn't qualification-worthy to me. Ultimately it did qualify, but it was Bosnia's worst result since the relegation era. × Poland: Marcin Mroziński - Legenda What... the... actual... f**k... This is disturbing. Poland obviously went for the shock factor with this staging. The atmosphere is bone-chilling too. The backing singers are creepy, between the shrieking, the apple-biting, the haunting harmonies, and the intense facial expressions. And the performance concludes with Marcin “strangling” one of the girls as her shirt gets torn off. To give some context, the song is subverting the common fairy tale tropes, where the princess doesn't want to be “rescued” by the knight. This changes our perspective of the knight's intentions – he is no longer a hero but a predator. While I appreciate the creativity, the visual representation is unsettling. The screaming is annoying. And the song is excessively intense. Still, the chorus employs a “marching through the forest” rhythm that's enjoyable (ie. the “forever ever and ever” bit). ✓ Belgium: Tom Dice - Me and My Guitar “Me and My Guitar” was the huge jury favourite of 2010. It was enough for Belgium to win in SF1, and to be 2 points shy of winning the jury vote at the Grand Final. But the televoters ranked it 14th. The song foreshadows a 2010s trend: the acoustic male ballad. It's the template that Ed Sheeran, Passenger, James Bay, etc. will soon exploit. While this genre is generally not my thing, Tom delivers a heartfelt, honest, and personal performance here. In the song, he describes the lengthy struggle to break into the music industry and feeling pressured to abandon his dream. Appropriately, the only things on stage are Tom and his guitar. The backing track adds some unobtrusive support though. The minimalist approach allows Tom to express fragile vulnerability. He sounds passionate and driven about his goal. And he's a capable live performer. But, the melody is too dull and plain. Although the “maybe I should get a nine to five” hook is alright. Ultimately “Me and My Guitar” broke Belgium's 5-year DNQ streak, and it became their first top 10 since “Sanomi” in 2003. Considering their last three entries were terrible, this is refreshing by comparison. × Malta: Thea Garrett - My Dream Was Chiara not available? This sounds exactly like one of her ballads, minus the compelling vocal climaxes. Oh wait, “My Dream” was written by the same team that wrote Chiara's 1998 entry, no wonder. This is such a bland, indistinct and uninteresting ballad. The only thing of note is when the angel wings appear behind Thea. And even that doesn't excite me. Otherwise, the song tries to be inspirational but it just isn't. The message is written with generic lyrics and the arrangement is ordinary AF. There's just... nothing to care about here. ✓ Albania: Juliana Pasha - It's All About You Well, this sounds noticeably similar to Christina Aguilera's “Keeps Gettin' Better”, but it's a bop nonetheless. The fizzy electro beat channels the “loud” dance-pop hits of the time. There's a fierceness to the buzzing synths, while the jogging rhythm drives the song. Furthermore, the chorus is an adrenaline rush that expresses Juliana's smitten devotion. She even wants to get engaged? (ie. “make a deal and seal it”). The chorus is easily catchy too, thanks to the well-timed echoes from the backing singers. Elsewhere, the flashing purple lights match the energy. The “we've been down...” hook is decent. And the “cool-down” in the bridge sets up the finale. There's also an electric violin solo; which is kind of random. Still, I feel like other entries have more to offer. ✓ Greece: Giorgos Alkaios and Friends - OPA! I understand how some would find this irritating, but I think it's brilliant. “OPA!” is an insanely catchy song that specializes in the call-and-response format. The “hey!” and “opa!” cheers are the obvious hooks. Specifically in how the two sections contrast – the “hey!” lines stop early to allow an instrumental response (which signifies the rising flames mentioned in the lyrics), while the “opa!” lines are more complete. The chorus then concludes on a bounce rhythm. The song's structure is dynamic in other ways too. The vocals intensify midway through the verses as an escalation tactic. There's growls, the four isolated clangs, and the bridge introduces a traditional stringed instrument, followed by a record scratch. Moreover, the instrumentation blends a marching drum rhythm with Greek elements and 2010-era synths that emanate like smoke. There's a lot going on, but it's cohesive. Giorgos also delivers some commanding/intimidating stage presence. Incidentally “OPA!” is the televote winner of SF1, and it extended Greece's top 10 streak. ✓ Portugal: Filipa Azevedo - Há dias assim This is Portugal's last qualification until Salvador. On first impression, “Há dias assim” seemed like a slow and boring ballad that benefited from weak competition, but it placed 4th in the semi-final. That said, the song definitely improves in the second half, when the instrumentation expands beyond the initial piano-ballad structure. The dramatic transitions and the vocal climaxes are the highlights. More specifically, it's the shifts that lead into the later choruses. Filipia also delivers a warm and personable performance. The lyrics, meanwhile, touch on the themes of loneliness and separation. It's not my favourite entry, but it's amongst the 10 best songs of SF1. × F.Y.R. Macedonia: Gjoko Taneski - Jas ja imam silata Yeah, this is the most forgettable entry of SF1. The heavy guitar line and the chorus melody are both agreeable and inoffensive, but “Jas ja imam silata” doesn't leave much of an impression. It's an obvious DNQ. The song channels 1980s rock music though, which is difficult to dislike. There's even an electric guitar solo! In the song, Gjoko basically declares “I'm better off without you”. He serves some attitude as he invalidates the significance of the relationship. He's already moved on. But otherwise, the guest rapper doesn't add much. And the seductive female dancers on stage don't match the theme. I guess that's one way to attract votes. ✓ Belarus: 3+2 feat. Robert Wells - Butterflies “Butterflies” is a strong contender for my least favourite ESC entry of all time. I despise everything about it. Firstly, it's one of the dullest songs in existence. The vocals are so toneless and lethargic – it's excruciating to listen to. Moreover, the melody moves at such a sluggish pace that it's sleep inducing. The song sounds 50-years out of date; completed by a formal stage aesthetic that includes tuxedos, theatre curtains and a grand piano. The main metaphor (“we're like butterflies flying to the sun”) is lame. The song is about opening up and letting love in, but the emotion doesn't take hold. And then the cherry on top: the butterfly wing reveal! Which is one of the cringiest things I've witnessed in this contest. The drums FINALLY enter during this section, but it's too little too late to salvage the song. ✓ Iceland: Hera Björk - Je ne sais quoi The other Icelandic Björk. So “Je ne sais quoi” is this year's fan-favourite flop (there's usually one every year). Despite reaching third in SF1, Iceland floundered at 19th place at the Grand Final. Maybe the staging was too bland, since Hera and the backing singers are mostly stationary throughout the performance. The camera work and the background lights compensate somewhat, though. That said, Germany also had basic staging, so I don't know. As for the song, “Je ne sais quoi” is an encompassing, 2010-style, dance-pop banger. It sounds like a European chart hit from the time, and not too dissimilar from Iceland's 2008 entry, which Hera was actually a backing singer for. The first verse builds up anticipation nicely; whereas the second verse indulges in the motorized synths. The chorus, meanwhile, is an explosion of “brash” euphoric synths that overtakes the arena. It's a killer chorus. Namely in how Hera belts the song title and the ensuing “oh!”s. She's a talented vocalist and a confident performer. But.... I find that Hera's delivery is more a showcase of skill than a showcase of emotion. It makes this entry seem a little “generic”, even if the production and the melodic structure are slick. My Ranking: 01. Greece: Giorgos Alkaios and Friends - OPA! ✓ 02. Moldova: SunStroke Project and Olia Tira - Run Away ✓ 03. Iceland: Hera Björk - Je ne sais quoi ✓ 04. Slovakia: Kristina - Horehronie 05. Serbia: Milan Stanković - Ovo je Balkan ✓ 06. Finland: Kuunkuiskaajat - Työlki ellää 07. Albania: Juliana Pasha - It's All About You ✓ 08. Belgium: Tom Dice - Me and My Guitar ✓ 09. Russia: Peter Nalitch and Friends - Lost and Forgotten ✓ 10. Portugal: Filipa Azevedo - Há dias assim ✓ 11. F.Y.R. CALOOCAN CITY, Dec. 13 (PIA) -- Following strict health protocols set by the World Health Organization, representatives of various sectors had peaceably assembled on International Human Rights Day to officially launch the historic Yes for Peace-Bayanihan ng Bayan para sa Kapayapaan, Kaunlaran at Kasaganaan at the Andres Bonifacio Centennial Carillon Tower located in the Diliman campus of the University of the Philippines system.
The kickoff, a stark contrast amid the reportedly dwindling noisy and insolent protests and marches of anti-government forces to commemorate the global human rights event on Dec. 10, calmly called for the promotion of peacebuilding efforts, such as answering the Yes for Peace questionnaire to boost peace education, asserting the right to peace, and calling for an end to all armed conflicts in the country.
In his speech, Commissioner Yusoph Mando of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) said, “Unfortunately, peacebuilding is still not the default response to conflict.”
“We need everybody’s help to tell others about how we can tackle conflict and end violence,” Mando added. 
For his part, Cosanie Derogongan, Director of the Bureau of Peace and Conflict Resolution (BPCR) of the NMCF said, “We believe that we can achieve a just, comprehensive, unifying and sustainable peace without destruction to property and deaths, including unarmed civilians.”
“The armed conflicts can only be stopped if the will of the people can verifiably be documented through the people’s referendum component of Yes for Peace to debunk the self-declaration of armed rebels that they are fighting for the rights and interests of the people,” Derogongan added.
In his message, Undersecretary Severo S. Catura, Executive Director of the Presidential Human Rights Committee (PHRC) underscored, “Peace is a human right, even as a society that is at peace is its ultimate aim.”
“There can never be real, tangible and felt development without making our people feel secure and it is our duty to uplift the people’s welfare,” Catura quoted a statement made by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte during the first State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Catura, who started his career at the Office of the Peace Commissioner (OPC) which eventually became the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) recalled, “This campaign is already more than thirty years old.  We remain steadfast and firm in supporting its call because the advocacy of our office is for each individual to have the right to peace.”
Red tagging
After careful deliberation and negotiations with UP Diliman Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo and Vice-Chancellor for Community Affairs Aleli B. Bawagan, the kick-off activity inside the UP Diliman campus was approved dispelling some allegations that UP is anti-government and will not permit non-leftists to openly express their advocacies inside the campus.
The full support of the university was felt by event organizers.  Personnel from its Community Maintenance Office prepared the venue while the management of the UP Theater readily provided electrical power for the sounds and lights used in the event.  Normal fees for rental and electrical consumption were likewise waived.
Alpha Dasmarinas, Chief Financial Officer of Yes for Peace, Incorporated was elated, “Thank you UP for the full support that you have given to for this simple kick-off event.”
“May you continue to support our campaign and take is as your own in the days to come pursuant to your Board of Regents Resolution offering UP as venue and as mediating institution during its 1056th meeting,” Dasmarinas said in gratitude.
Asked by the PIA-NCR, Ernesto Angeles Alcanzare, lead organizer of Yes for Peace–Bayanihan ng Bayan and Chief Executive Officer of Yes for Peace Incorporated said, "Curiously, some well-meaning, but obviously misinformed supporters of the Duterte administration have reportedly red-tagged Yes for Peace over various social media platforms simply because it decided to use the color red as the background of its propaganda tarpaulins and because they allowed the UP Community to display the messages 'Defend Academic Freedom' and 'No to Red-Tagging'."
He explained, “The use of gold on red in our campaign tarpaulins is based on the Chinese belief that these colors bring fortune and good luck especially during events such as these.  After all, the use of these colors is not exclusive to the communists.”
“As for the tarpaulins of the UP Community, these are commonly held beliefs among constituents, including its alumni to which I belong.  Red-tagging the whole university because of a very noisy albeit small minority is unfair,” he lamented.
“Moreover, who can in his right mind refuse a very gracious host to post a commonly held message in your event even if it seems to have taken the scene away from the central messages of one’s event?” he added.
Alcanzare said it is in this light that he appreciated the wisdom of President Duterte who saw all through the non-partisan and inclusive nature of Yes for Peace when he wrote in his message, “I recognize this noble undertaking of Yes for Peace–Bayanihan ng Bayan because it promotes a newfound culture of harmony and cooperation among our communities…  I am amazed how anybody can be so bigoted and narrow-minded to accuse and judge Yes for Peace as part of the over-all plan to destabilize and bring down the government.”
“Please let me take this opportunity to inform all those who have jumped the gun to unfairly accuse us of being leftists that we categorically but respectfully denied the display of a red tarp bearing the message ‘ABOLISH NTF-ELCAC’,” Alcanzare said of a group handing them a prepared banner prior to the event launch.
“I am sure that had we allowed them to do their bidding, they would have joined us and trebled the number of participants,” he said, “Actually, they conducted a rally right across the street and waited for us to march to the Oblation Plaza, a thought that did not even cross our minds.”
For her part, Evelyn Canete Evangelio, National Executive Director of Alpha Phi Omega International Philippines Inc then suggested, “We might as well change the colors used in campaign tarpaulins to Blue and Gold to satisfy the call for blood by bashers who have displayed the propensity to accuse anybody of being a communist by sheer color of preference.”
“After all, APO is into this campaign pursuant to our founder’s vision for us to convince leaders of the world to resolve conflicts in a more humane and legal manner than by war,” Evangelio added.
For his part, Mama S. Lalanto, al Haj, Chairman of Yes for Peace, Incorporated and a past president of APO Phils declared, “The Yes for Peace is an inclusive campaign. We do not discriminate anybody by virtue of race, religion and political beliefs. This is reflected in our logo which bears the primary and secondary colors of the elementary color wheel.”
“Any color of preference by any donor is acceptable for as long as it is used in good faith and communicated to us prior to the production and distribution of the campaign materials,” Lalanto emphasized.
To recall, the The Yes for Peace–Bayanihan ng Bayan para sa Kapayapaan, Kaunlaran at Kasaganaan, a multi-sectoral peace and development campaign was incorporated into the Sectoral Unification, Capability Building and Mobilization (SUCBEM) cluster of the National Action Plan of the National Task Force to End the Local Communist Armed Conflicts (NTF ELCAC) submitted by National Security Adviser Secretary Hermogenes C. Esperon, Jr. and approved by President Duterte in 2019.
However, upon the advice of Esperon, the campaign design was refined, per the approved plan by the Yes for Peace, Incorporated, which was registered with the Securities and Exchange to give a juridical identity to empower the proponents to enter into agreements with government institutions and non-government organizations for the transparent implementation of the campaign.
The consultation and refinement process were made parallel to the preparations of the whole-of-government to get all agencies on board in the good governance pillar of NTF-ELCAC. The process took over one year.
Prior to the issuance of EO No. 70 by Duterte, Yes for Peace was calling “Resume Peace Talks Here” in contrast to the insistence of left-leaning forces that were shouting “Resume Peace Talks” even as the President was trying to convince communist leader Jose Ma. Sison to come home to the Philippines so that peace talks to resume.
Unfortunately, Sison who initiated the armed revolution and protracted war to bring down the government vehemently refused citing concerns for his life and security.  On record, Sison has been blaming Duterte for killing the peace talks.
“Had the peace talks resumed with UP as venue and mediating institution, could the final peace agreement have been crafted and signed within three months which was the time frame declared by Joma Sison?” Alcanzare asked.
With the inevitable and final collapse of the peace talks because of Sison’s refusal to give in to the President’s firm and unmovable position that it be held here, Yes for Peace searched for cost-effective and resource-efficient means to document the Filipino people’s consensus on the three calls of the campaign. The resolution is a bit of an oof (just to me as an author), but I still do like this piece, although admittedly it’s not my best. It’s still rather okay at some points though lol
Also, to anyone who is requesting from the prompt list, please specify who says the lines. I will automatically default to the actual character speaking them, but it makes my life 1000x easier when writing these scenarios to not try and figure out clever ways in which a character can say all the requested lines. I will do it if not specified and if wanted, but if it is flexible, please tell me.

“When I’m with you, I’m home”
Those of whom are averse to the fact that individuals may be willingly apparent to change, due to their inherent abilities or lack thereof afforded by society, betray the notion that they will forever be stuck in their own senseless limbo as they simply await for things to happen to them. Why? Because of their inherent abilities or lack thereof afforded to them by society.
This was something of which your significant other, Gaara, had realized long before he had decided to rise up above what it was that he had been afforded by society, and take the highest heirarchical military position available in his counrty: Kazekage.
You see, while we all know you’re aware, dear reader, we must address those who aren’t; Gaara, our now Kazekage, has a complicated past.
Usually I would skip over the specifics, but everybody came from somebody, and every somebody came from somewhere. These people and places may not be relevant to all when telling their stories, but it is relevant for this one. Allow me to explain.
They say that everyone is someone’s everything, and that home is where the heart is - this did not reign true for Gaara. The reason being? He was born as what we all refer to as a Jinchuuriki. To all those who don’t know, a Jinchuuriki is a special term for a special type of host. Jinchuuriki had the job, whether they had interviewed for it or not, to host and keep wild beasts within them. These beasts were known for their tails. These beasts were known for their power. And these beasts were known for their danger. And within Gaara, did one of them lay.
It was a tanuki, and it held grave power within its one tail. People shuddered at the name: Shukaku.
The tanuki had once went wild in the midst of Gaara’s country, Suna, and in its rage, killed hundreds of innocents. Men, women, children, babes, elderly, and mostly, shinobi (the leading militia force).
And so when the beast had been tamed that same night it went rampant, and placed inside the body of an unborn babe, fate had seemingly sealed itself, and placed a lid on the container; the babe, Gaara, was to lead a life of hardship and sorrow. One led by the pains of others as they looked upon his being, and saw another that caused the deaths of those they had loved. Gaara was to lead a life in which he was ostrascized; one of which he was completely, and utterly alone. And he did.
I won’t go into detail, but for a long time, Gaara felt that he was not everyone, and no one viewed him as their anything. And if he had no one to give his heart to, then he had nowhere to go for home. Simply a house.
This is where you came in, dear reader. You had watched from afar at first, as Gaara struggled to cope with his sense of self, never really thinking too much. You had seen, as he rose from a troubled boy to a quietly determined teenager. Until eventually, you stood before him in his office, and viewed him as a man.
It had started slow at first, with you obligingly taking orders from your leader, being a shinobi and privy to his orders. Until little happenings began to take place, from bumping into him around his office’s building, to seeing him around the village and having small talk. Eventually, it went from “Y/n” and “Gaara,” to “Y/n and Gaara.”
You, having seen his struggle to become who he is today, and fight the voices who believed him to be a monster, knew that he had changed from before, when he was unstable and raw. You had watched him, and you knew quite honestly that no man who regarded his cacti collection with such delicacy could ever be the monster others once claimed he was. No man who brought you cacti flowers and trinkets from his travels, and protected you after he had gotten so used to only protecting himself could ever be that monster. Most would agree with you.
Most.
There were still some, even after Gaara had taken up the Kazekage position, who held onto the belief that Gaara was not human, and was to be hated vehemently. They believed him to be the monster within, rather than the human host.
Gaara payed no mind, however.
“y/n, I don’t mind it, I swear.” A small smile placed itself upon his lips, the fullest it would get for your boyfriend.
Sitting on his office desk, you lightly trailed the grains of the old, hardended wood under your fingers, absently swinging your legs as you gazed up at the ceiling, a frown on your face.
You gave a light sigh. “I know, but I do. They don’t even know anything about you.” Turning your head, you gazed down at your boyfriend sitting at his desk, an amused smile playing at his lips as he finalized the contents of his recent documents. “I just wish they saw you the way I do.” 
Gaara set down the documents and turned toward you, his smile growing as he looked into your eyes. “What? You want the whole village to view me romantically?”
Your legs stopped swinging as you felt heat raise to your cheeks, turning your body to face Gaara more so than it had previously been. “Well no, but it’d be better than having some of them hate you. They don’t know how to seperate you from the tanuki – they blind if they can’t see that you’ve changed.” You gave a little huff as your gaze travelled from coral green eyes to large window panes overlooking the village.
Now Gaara was really never quite the happy one, no matter how the recent years of his life had turned out. However, when he was with you, things turned a little lighter, and even I, the detailer of this tale, may have been fooled into forgetting his past. But perhaps there was no fooling to be done; people can forget even the prescence of gravity when they are in love.
Smile never fading, Gaara regarded you with yet another gaze. “I do not care, y/n. I overcame most of those people, and I have achieved enough acceptance in my life to be happy.” He stood up from his chair and circled to desk until he stood in front of you. “I can’t expect everyone to accept me for what and who I am.” By now he had grabbed your waist, and your gaze had long since returned to the coral green eyes in front of you. Heat raised to your cheeks once more. “And above those achievements, I achieved you.” 
Whew, I wasn’t even there and yet I can still practically feel the heat on your face, dear reader.
Gaara continued to speak, his fingers tracing lights circles into your skin. “I view you as the one thing I never had: everything.”
Momentarily closed eyes, and a short but sweet pressing of both of your lips passed, and Gaara looked toward you once again, the heat of his forehead burning against your own as he pressed his to yours.
“I am still Kazekage, am I not? They cannot do anything but simply wait until the hat has been passed onto another.”
Pulling away from you, Gaara’s eyes gave you a look with a teasing light prancing about within them as his hands grasped your waist firmer than before. “All that matters is that I am with you here and now, and that you see me as who I am. It is how you see me that I care about.”
By now, a smile had grown on your face, and the blush encompassing it had faded to a pleasant pink as you stared up at him. Hands now on his biceps, you tugged your boyfriend toward you for another kiss.
“You know my heart will always be with you, right?” You asked. “No matter what others may say.”
Gaara gave a light chuckle, and gave his affirmations of “of course he knew that,” but it didn’t stop you from smiling any wider.
You gave a light chuckle. “There is something that others say that I agree with, though.” Gaara made a small sound of curiosity as he looked down at you, fingers once again tracing vacantly into your skin. “’Home is where the heart is.’ You know, if that’s true,” your face turned pink once more before you continued, Gaara’s own beginning to take on a similar hue. “Then when I’m with you, I’m home.”
And for someone who had, for a long time, never had a home, the moment meant all the more when he replied with “Likewise.”

Ken teeters a line that he doesn't talk about.
His parents are pretty narcistic. That type of person is often a first class manipulator.
Ken struggles with a lot of self-hatred and bordering on suicidal ideation, or at least thinking that people are better off without him (digimon included in "people," as we do give personhood to dolphins and apes in real life, and digimon have completely human intelligence. I'm going to make this an issue in my project dealt with in the confines of government agencies like DATS, which arose from the ashes of Hypnos. Of course, war-loving countries like America aren't as benevolent, and the LDP has goals to be less benevolent, too)
Anyway, so y'all probably know that abusive manipulation can look like saying things like "you'd be better off without me around" to rope the abused in further, guilt them out of inflicting any consequences, and make everything about the abuser again.
If there's one thing Ken has on his side, it's self-awareness about his words, actions, and *to an extent* he can sometimes catch a thought and realise it's just depression/trauma/other mental illness talking. It may take a few times having the same conversation to do so, but he's got some therapy behind him by this blog's default age of 21.
But as for the rest, as for Ken's self-hatred, he walks this balance of "trying to save people from him" (pushing them away because he thinks he knows what's good for them better than they do, which isn't right. It doesn't admit the agency of the other person) while not actually voicing these thoughts because most people who do are just out to hurt whoever they say it to. Even though it's genuinely how he feels.
Which...is quite a bind. Because he doesn't say these things he's feeling and let those who love him talk him down from his locked tower of bad feeling. He keeps it bottled up as much as the dam can hold. This is really not good. At all.
So those close to him know something is really wrong--he's clearly so depressed he's not functional a lot of the time. But he kinda comes off as if he's too proud to let people see. And he definitely doesn't have pride. In the end, though, the effect is the same.
This kind of thing, I could call it "hypercorrection," which is a grammatical term. It's when you try to obey some grammar rule so much, you overuse the given structure and get it wrong the other way.
He's hypercorrecting his words and behaviour to the point he's chasing off even the ability to get the support he needs. Because so many people say the things he feels with malintent that he doesn't feel he can let people that far in.
There was a time when he did. While I'm building my own canon for this blog based on threads I have, and Osamu's alive, as well as Ken being trans and having been a child idol with probably very conservative anthropomorphic gender roles for parents, his fame ended in being outed nationwide, not even necessarily intentionally, though there was some definitely intentionally transphobic coverage, but also just by different media outlets having different pieces of the story. Unfortunately, the consequences are all absolutely terrible no matter a particular journalist or talk show host's intent, and it's Ken who has to deal with them.
And I'm positive he's been a laughingstock on many a post-watershed variety show. As much as I love Tamori Club's Soramimi Hour, yeah, they're not exactly the most compassionate or understanding and progressive comedy out there (I would probably have to hand that to a few different American sitcoms like The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Fresh Off the Boat, or Mixed-ish)
He won't have to deal with the level of violence he would in, say, the US, but he would very much be a conservative subject of ridicule.
And I totally see his mother crying because "my daughter is gone uwu" Not yelling, but manipulative crying. That might spur Papa into jumping down Ken's throat, as he does that in canon.
(When Mama found out Ken had hit puberty, as far as this blog is concerned, Mama gave him a "you're becoming the woman you were meant to be (deadname) You're growing up, so maybe we can stop playing pretend." And don't think she hasn't been sat in front of any media covering Kamikawa Aya, who's been a real life trans advocate since '95, and became a Representative of some part of Toukyou or somewhere near there in '03. She has)
But other than that, I'm following canon mostly, and yes, Ken first experienced suicidal ideation at age 11.
But he's so overexposed to things like Mama cries over something Ken does/is, and Papa is spurred to yell at him, and is so hyperaware of how his words could adversely affect people he cares about, that the older he gets, the more he bottles up and pushes people away. Even Wormmon.
(Otherwise, he'd probably be married to Daisuke. I have no trouble believing a Jodo Shinshu Buddhist preacher would sign off on a certificate, and since Ken hasn't had a hysterectomy, he can't change his name and gender on his family register, so he can legally marry Daisuke if Daisuke's cis. Canon ship literally had reverse buildup)
*None of what Ken's doing here is healthy, and I want to stress that.* Ken really needs to find a way to bring up some of these feelings and listen in earnest to the people trying to reach him, as he is sorta doing in my current thread with moving in with Osamu.
And there are healthy ways to discuss this, but it requires skill with words and a lot of delicacy, and I don't really feel that Ken's at a stage where he can do that. I think these feelings are very overwhelming at the default setting, and have been so stuffed down that they're pretty compressed. Like a metal spray can.
Ken definitely has good intentions in that he doesn't want to end up manipulating people, but "best laid plans of mice and men" and all that.
He definitely talks to the therapist, which is good and how he's gained enough insight to be able to sort out his thoughts to the extent he's able, but the therapist can't tell him how Osamu or Daisuke or Wormmon (well, not that the therapist knows Wormmon is anything beyond "someone I'm close to," but) feel. They can conjecture to a extent, but they've never spoken to any of these people. They only have Ken's side of things.
So he really does need to talk about his feelings, but he doesn't possess the skills to do it in a healthy way yet, so...he tries to avoid them.
At least he does talk to the therapist, which is a great first step.
No great conclusion. I just saw a """romantic"""" ship post with Ken being overtly manipulative, and I thought I'd share what I have for him.
