sasusaku is such a messy ship. sasuke is traumatized to their core and lashes out at anyone treating him like he's worthy of love. sakura suffers from loving because she can't fill the hole an entire clan left behind. sasuke hurts and hurts and sakura hurts from his hurt and it's a cycle where sasuke becomes the thing he swore not to be and sakura clings to the mere scraps of his affection from memories long faded of a boy who ceased to exist because what else is there? what happens when she stops thinking about the boy who let her hold him, let her try to love him?

yet sasuke returns and he's repentant and sakura nearly died. sasuke yearns and sakura longs for the days that will never come and...

what I'm saying is it's less about second chances and more about learning that love doesn't need to hurt. it doesn't need to be difficult. it's painful and selfish and there'll be days when your lover will bury his hand in your chest in your nightmares or rise up from the table and tell you you're too damaged to love but it's about whether the peace you feel existing side by side with them is worth giving it a try.

and for sasuke and sakura, both bleeding from wounds, it is.

I know everyone wants stories with happy endings, and they all hate when the main characters die, and insist well what's the point of the story then, it didn't matter at all! they died!

but.

I don't know. do the stories of those who die at the end not matter at all?

because if that's the case, I have news about the stories told by everyone who has ever lived in this world.

we all die at the end. we are all doomed by the narrative.

but our stories still matter.

I will always be so sad and angry that Eragon never recognized how horribly the elves treated him and that no one else helped protect him from it either. Oromis is so insidiously and inexcusably cruel to him and Eragon truly deserved the chance to escape that and see the damage he caused, and also to then beat Oromis into a bloody pulp. And Glaedr too, honestly. He's mostly gone unscathed in my past rants, largely because at least his personality isn't so insufferable, but he ain't shit either. He's fully complicit in all of Oromis's vile abuse, and adds to it himself in certain places. They more than earn Eragon's ire, but they all constantly belittle him and insist that they inherently know better than him about everything, and poor Eragon believes them, so he doesn't fight back. No!!! Every misgiving you have about them is true, and not only should you stand your ground, but you should also start maiming them!!!!!

Oromis's mannerisms are respectful, kind, and gentle, but they in no way indicate his actual feelings. It just serves as a guise, while their actions demonstrate that both he and Glaedr don't have a single shred of respect for Eragon. They don't trust him, they don't put faith in him, they don't care about his wellbeing, and they have so much contempt for him. And they do all that while they take everything from Eragon, demanding he sacrifice himself constantly, and not always just in the interest of beating the Empire! In some cases it's solely an expression of their resentment of him or a way to cut away at the parts of him they don't like.

And Eragon gives them everything, so earnestly and generously. Then they give him jack shit. They only give him whatever suits their intention to use him as a weapon, and even in that, they pick and choose things to withhold according to their disdain for him. Contempt is all he gets in return for his trust and loyalty.

And it makes me sad how Saphira isn't there for him in this. In her defense, she's very young and they harm her also by prioritizing her utility to them over anything else, which she sadly does not recognize either. But beyond that, the elves and Oromis and Glaedr specifically treat her far, far better than they treat Eragon. She's in no way responsible for their actions, but there are places where she enables the abuse. Most often through overlooking it, but sometimes when Eragon rightfully balks at their mistreatment, then turns to Saphira for her input, she tells him, "I trust them and I think you should be deferring to them."

Eragon is so earnest and compassionate and he deserves care, both in the form of other people caring about his wellbeing, and also through the chance for him to learn how he can and should care for himself. Yet at the end of the series, he's so conditioned to accept manipulation and abuse and I just want my poor boy to have a chance to rest and HEAL 😭

One of the things I find really frustrating with the Devin Grayson Nightwing run is the lack of consistency between the titans, the rest of the batfam and the Nightwing title.

I know Donna is dead (I think) either at the same time or right before his building blows up but I know because I looked it up, not because I read Nightwing.. Why is Nightwing not allowed to grieve for her in his own comic ? Why is this, as in the death of his best friend, not even mentioned ?

Worse than that.... Why is nobody but Alfred there after his building blows up ? Where is Batman ? And the Titans still alive ? He has a large group of friends. Are you telling me Roy or Wally or Vic or Garth or just anybody else from said group would not look for him after his entire building blows up, which made the news, especially considering Donna just died as well ? I get that they have theirs own comics, but guest starring has been a thing ?

Also Babs is literally Oracle and Dick collapsed, crying in her apartment a few days ago when Haly's cicus was destroyed ? Why is Amy the only one worrying about where he is sleeping ? Babs is Oracle, her literal role is to be eyes for superheroes, right ? And Nightwing is again, I feel like emphasizing, on the news, on a rampage (sort of, he is not killing anyone).

I also understand that Dick is probably isolating himself but Nightwing is having a full-on mental breakdown on the news ? Where is everyone ?

Also, sidenote... Fucking Wally, as in, one of Dick's other best friends, went to check on Babs after their break up, but not Dick ? Why couldn't he do both ?

if i had a nickel for every time a children’s animated cartoon featured a redeemed male character who made a huge sacrifice for a girl he previously had a complicated relationship with, ending up with them on different sides, but then turned against everything he knew and saved her at risk to his own life, only for them to never speak again about said sacrifice and NOT get into a relationship despite copious amounts of romantic coding… i would have two nickels. which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

also this isnt really proper shade at larian or anything and the writing of this game is SAURE good so dont take it this way but.

i sure do wish. Minthara was not villain batted as hard as she was. Her being locked to "evil" runs and being mutually exclusive with several party members. Her being nothing more than a miniboss for your average player- who does not even know shes a potential party member! Her being so chronically unloved by the community because... shes the "evil" companion. Hell, even the amount of people saying frankly really edgy shit about killing her or hurting her completely unprompted lmao. Like I genuinely think shes been pretty unfairly demonized both by the community and by the meta of just like... the game itself because she's really actually..... kind of, dare I say, sweet? if you get to know her. ugh.

just going off how Mirei described her past to Haruka and what one can assume about Majima’s mental state at the time… vivid image of two abused people disastrously desperate for any kind of human affection, one of them being an acutely insecure teenaged idol and the other one an adult man who spent most of his 20’s in the torment nexus. Woof. the fact the game doesn’t talk about it after the car scene is imo a huge waste of juicy character stuff

I think for the time being my asks are closed because insert ramble about mental stability I tried to write last night and I almost threw my laptop at the wall. Like I don’t want to close the box cause I enjoy questions that I can answer. I just feel really bad for the asks sitting there covered in cobwebs. And I think the more I get the more I crumple like an aluminum can. Like maybe if I just don’t think about it for a while I’ll be able to do it again.
