Tommy saying he has to leave after kissing Buck is something I have to talk about…

Because instead of just saying “yeah gotta go!” and leaving Buck to flounder and worry and feel used, Tommy does the opposite

Tommy wants to stick around, wants to be there, and wants to be with Buck. And he says so by the way he adjusts Buck’s shirt, by maintaining eye contact, explaining it, and Buck isn’t left to spiral right after the kiss.

And after Buck’s little “okay” that still holds a sense of awe and maybe not being super present (which can’t blame him, I mean have you seen Lou), Tommy still assures Buck of his place by asking for a date.

It’s all these things that add up to Tommy making sure Buck is a priority and Tommy will keep that as a promise.

Buck deals with abandonment and not feeling right in the world, and Tommy is there to say “hey, in this world, in my world, you can feel safe and free to be you.”

(if you don't use references, take it as a compliment to your godly anatomy and posing skills)

I don't really use references for poses that much. I'm not sure how to explain this without sounding weird but when I'm about to draw something, I visualize it in my mind, and when it's character art I sort of see them as 3D models that can be posed and rotated. And I just sort of try to replicate that on paper, sometimes it's easy and sometimes it doesn't work out at all (a good reminder that when you browse someone's art, you usually only see the pieces that the artist is at least passably proud of, not the piles of failed projects that went nowhere).

#when I use references it's usually for very specific poses and gestures that I'm not familiar with #if I were to draw someone shooting a crossbow or tap dancing or weaving on a loom #I'd have to look up references because you can only do those actions in a particular way or it doesn't look right #and I have no clear visual memory of what that action looks like #but if it's a common general casual everyday pose like a guy sitting or lying down in a way or another #you can draw that in so many different ways you can just position them however you want and it will look believable #and a lot of my poses are general everyday poses #I dunno that's how it works for me #definitely use references if you're unsure or drawing something you've never drawn before #but once you get sorta comfortable I personally feel like it's a lot more fun and interesting to draw from memory and imagination #this got rambly and I'm sorry I couldn't direct you to a pose reference databank of some kind I know they exist but I've never used them #answered #anonymous

Rory's first session with steadiness training and she's crushing it!

#dogblr #rory borealis #my face #bird dog training #so bird dogs need a really strong WOAH (stop moving and stay) for safety #and also to help encourage pointing in younger dogs (you woah them when they have the scent of the bird before the bird flushes)#ive never taught woah before so i read a bunch of books and watched a bunch of videos #one of the first steps is steadiness (basically impulse control)#so were using my elevated step and some kibbles and a flat collar with a tab leash #basically once your dog understands the board you can start #hold the tab loosely (no tension in the leash but enough that you can stop them from going after the snack)#throw the snack and dont let the dog go for it (hold leash and feed snacks on the board)#make sure theres no tension in the leash before you release #the dog should be standing there of their own will not the leash stopping them #its really hard so make sure the dog is exercised and calm before you start esp the first time #and only do short short sessions #and reward HEAVILY #there are faster more old fashioned ways to teach it #but shes a baby and i dont mind going slow so this is what im doing #also - look at my face i was so unsure if she would stay 😂

so. the line of tape. it's existence makes me lose my marbles to no end, but probably not in the way you'd expect. it's the fact that even with this clear divide they STILL spill over into the others space. i've see a lot of people talk about it as if it's this clear divide in the lab that hermann and newt steer clear from but that just isnt the case!

if it was, you'd expect the lab to look something like this layout

but look at the actual movie

it looks like more akin to something like this

newt's samples, tables, and stands for his dissection tools spill over the line right into hermann's space. there's definitely room on his side of the lab for everything, he's just. spread out across the entire lab instead. AND it seems like this is what the lab usually looks like, hermann only makes to point out the entrails on his side and not the rest of newts things, it's a shared space— not a divided one. what i'm saying is that even though hermann makes a big deal out of his side of the lab versus newts side vis-à-vis the intestines, he definitely doesn't care that much about separating himself from newt OR his space from newts space in general. the way i see it, they argue and bicker a lot but ultimately they find comfort in the others presence, hermann just doesn't want to deal with potentially-hazardous kaiju intestines right by his things ^^;

I haven’t played all of AA4 yet but I was thinking a lot about how uneasy the first case made me feel (in a good way) and I finally figured out why. (AA 4-1 spoilers btw) Part of it of course is the overall scheme: what happened 7 years ago and what are the answers to all these unresolved questions. But I genuinely don’t think I’ve seen a more accurate depiction of how I experienced GAD and social anxiety than I have with Apollo Justice.

Thankfully, I have learned to stand up for myself and I’ve controlled the majority of my anxiety but I can very clearly see that Apollo has not done that, at least yet. I am hoping hoping hoping we get to see him grow in this game because I know that AA5 and 6 won’t do that justice (lol). All throughout the first case, Apollo rarely spoke for himself. He was very much a follower and wanted approval, ergo he was very easy to manipulate. Kristoph and Phoenix both recognized this about him and were able to both use Apollo as their own puppets. He followed Kristoph’s orders whenever he gave them (‘expose phoenix’s lies’ ‘don’t embarrass me’) but he also was very willing to follow Phoenix’s orders too (‘point on the map for us’ ‘name the fourth person/killer’ ‘accuse Kristoph’). He followed who he thought was seeking the truth but he had to be told that doing these actions was for the truth.

I never was manipulated in court like Apollo experienced, but I was VERY quick to abandon plans for something else or act in ways if someone told me to. I remember sometimes even saying yes to things that made me super uncomfortable because I didn’t think for myself and didn’t want to disappoint or make anyone mad. And you can tell that Apollo really looked up to both Kristoph and Phoenix in that trial. He wasn’t sure who to believe so he followed both simultaneously until at the end when he realized both were assholes. I LOVE the unease I felt during the first case. It felt so real to me how Apollo was able to be so easily manipulated and how that was able to be used as a very interesting way to set up a new game and protagonist.

It’s amplified especially if you played all the past Phoenix Wright games. Hell, I finished PLvsPW an hour before picking up AA4 and that really influenced how much I wanted to also follow and believe Phoenix. So I absolutely love how this trial was used not only to play with the heart and mind of Apollo, but the players as well. There’s less reason to follow Kristoph since the players don’t have the same bond Kristoph and Apollo have since this was our first time meeting him, but because he’s our boss and he’s standing at the defense with us like Mia has, that adds to his credibility. Which is even better that Phoenix took Kristoph’s spot behind the defense bench when Kristoph was summoned to the stand. “Don’t believe that other guy, look at where he is now. Believe me instead, the person who just left that same spot.” You want to believe him, it’s Phoenix Wright! Teaching us the ways just like Mia. But what he’s actually done is replace Kristoph as the supposed voice of reason in Apollo’s ear. Yes that’s the spot for mentors, but does every mentor have your best intentions in mind? Are you able to distinguish genuine advice versus motivated advice?

I am truly fascinated and captivated by the writing. You can tell how much Shu Takumi has grown as a writer compared to the original AA1. I am so excited to play the rest of this game.

#I haven’t written smth like this in a while fhdjlaf and it’s all been TLOZ related in the past #like damn what a killer opening #i am soooo sad that we dont actually have a true Apollo justice trilogy i would do anything for more of this #and more of this i mean a story centered on Apollo with this level of writing lmao #i wrote this whole thing instead of working on my sop my god #also worth mentioning is I love how anxiety is displayed differently between Phoenix Apollo and ryunosuke #esp between ryuu and Apollo where one is very unsure of his abilities to defend but listens to his heart vs the other who #is more confident in his ability but struggles to form his own opinion #UHG i love these games so much I am so glad I finally got aroudn to playing them #ace attorney #Apollo justice
