I decided to watch helluva boss and imma do 2 separate posts for seasons 1 and two (why did I write it like that…?)

Season one

God I love this show. The writing is way more my speed than Hazbin hotel on Amazon, I enjoyed the writing in the pilot, but once Amazon took over the humor just didn’t really land for me, and tbh the plot took over and I started focusing more on that, and in general I’m more partial to the rapid fire YouTube dry comedy and this sentence is a friggin mess- I found HB SO FREAKIN FUNNY

Dude when he goes “FUCK, a new hole” I lost it

“Just try and sue us”

“We’re rich and we’re hot”

“I can just buy all the things!”

“You should commit die”

“Hehe, Trumpet!”

These are just my kinda lines, I don’t know how to explain it, I was wheezing all throughout the season

The music OH LORD when I say I’ve listened to stolas’s lullabye, lulu land, cotton candy, and house of ozmodius like 100000 times I’m… exaggerating but like you get the point the music here is friggin fantastic I also really like how a lot of the music is diegetic, I think that’s a fun touch. I don’t remember whether this is the case in Hazbin, but in this one it was like… I don’t know, it made sense that they were singing when they were singing… am I articulating myself well? I don’t care, iykyk if not, no prob

The animation is great, Viv loves them spinny shots and I am here for it. The amount of genuinely amazing action scenes is super impressive, and even the chill scenes have a ton of personality

The voice acting might be what steals the show for me, idrk anyone’s names cept Alex Brightman but BLITZS VA NEEDS AN AWARD, also slight tangent but I don’t know what it is with stolas’s va but he sounds a lot like a bird in the same sense that Gary Oldman sounded a lot like a bird in Kung Fu Panda 2, what is it that casting directors recognize in actors that screams bird?! Because both of these men are just SO BIRD DOES ANYONE GET WHAT I MEAN moving on, Ozzie’s voice was also effing PERFECT it slid silkily over me like… silk butter or smtg it was the perfect lust voice, I loved it. Everyone else was also great, but they were extra great.

It was also just so fun? Like in hazbin there’s very little just… shenanigans to enjoy, nothing wrong with that because it’s not that type of show, whereas this season is jam packed with them. Like I’ve heard that everyone hated episode 4, but like I don’t know I loved it😆 I just found it to be good old fashioned chicanery, and I liked the chaos and stupidity of it, made for some entertaining TV. This story engine is just mad entertaining for me.

I also enjoyed the writing of most of the characters (Millie, Moxxie, Loona, and Octavia still leave a bit to be desired imo, but whatever, they can’t all be winners and there’s nothing wrong with them) Blitz kinda reminds me of a Barney Stinson type character, which I really enjoy, and I also really like how his boss persona kinda infects everything he does while simultaneously being what’s screwing him over, his nature is kinda like a snake swallowing its own tail, which is tragic and beautiful, and Stolas compliments him well by being, not an enabler, but… I don’t know a clever way to say this… Stolas is a wreck in the best way and he just works. He’s short sighted, like extremely so, like how he thinks sleeping with Blitz will fill his emotional void so he does it but it just drives them further apart so it’s like he’s in a hole and in order to get out he’s gonna dig to pile up dirt so he can climb out but he’s an idiot and that’s a stupid idea and I loved his whole arc. Very enjoyable stuff drama.

Kinda random but whoever Viv’s foli artist is also deserves an award, the sound effects in this show are pristine and it’s incredible (yes I’ve seen the scene where the gun sounds go off a few seconds too late, and yeah, mistakes happen, but every bone crunch sounds and other stuff like that being so enunciated in an indie show is extremely impressive)

Anyhoo, very fun, very emotional, nice to look at, very funny, yada yada- altogether great season 1.

A/N: I just finished watching Hunger Games and boyyy, Peeta deserved better. Like, fight me idc, he's the sweetest ever, must protect. Feedback and comments are appreciated ♡

"What do you remember, Peeta ?"

"Blood. Screams. Lots of screams."

"What period of your life are you talking about?"

"My teenage years? The games, I think. There was a lot of death. S-so much death…"

"It's okay Peeta, you're safe now."

"Am I..?"

"Of course you are. Look around you. Tell me three things that you can see."

"You. A vase and...a cat."

"Three things that you can hear."

"Your voice, the birds and a kettle."

"You're doing good Peeta. Now three things that you can smell ?"

"Your fragrance, bread and lavender."

"Excellent. See ? There's nothing here which can harm you. Well except for Mittens but I swear that he's a good companion. Hold on I'll be back in a few seconds."

Peeta watched you get up from your seat and walk to the kitchen, a smile on your face. He loved to see you smile. You were so pretty when you smiled.

"Peeta ! Would you like some tea ?"

The boy smiled to himself and answered "Yes !" before taking a look at his surroundings, noticing once again the cozy decorations which made your house look cozy. He has been there so many time that he could tell what and where were the objects in the room with his eyes closed.

"Here. I brought us some of the bread that you gave me. What do you think about Camomille tea ?"

"Sounds perfect, thank you."

A comfortable silence took over the room, the sound of water filling glasses and birds singing outside adding to the serenity Peeta felt. He wasn't used to feeling like this. So…peaceful. He only felt that way when he was in this room. No. When he was with you. But every time he questioned his feelings for you, a name kept coming to his mind.

"Katniss."

"Yeah ? What can you tell me about her ?" you got comfortable in your seat, crossing you legs and taking a sip of your tea.

"She was a mutt- No. She was my first love. She's the… the Mockingjay. Katniss Everdeen, tribute of District Twelve." Peeta murmured, his gaze growing distant as the words left his mouth. And yet, he continued to speak, trying to make an effort but… "She is the reason for the war. The reason why- why all those people- Argh!" the young man shouted and stood up, grabbing his hair and walking at an increasing pace around the room. "My name is Peeta Mellark and I'm from District 12. My name is…"

"Peeta Mellark and you're a baker in Senew."

"Katniss-"

"Left to live her life in the forest."

"You're lying!" he approached you with long strides, pointing an accusing finger at your face.

You put your cup down and sat up straight, shrinking into your seat so that Peeta wouldn't perceive you as a threat. "No Peeta. I am not. All of this. What they said, what they did to you, it's all gone." you added in a soft voice, in an effort to get him through this post-traumatic episode as calmly as possible.

"Is- is it..?" he asked with a quivering voice, falling on his knee just in front of you.

You reached out to him, hesitated, and then brought your hand back to you. He was your patient, he needed a professional, not physical affection. "It's all gone. You've lived here since the end of the rebellion, you said you always wanted to be a baker who could help anyone in need. Everyone loves your food, people come from everywhere to get a piece of cake."

"Yeah, I always wanted to be a baker…" he whispered. He inhaled deeply, trying to regulate his breathing, but judging by the trembling of his hands you knew he was about to give in. "Why… Why can't I just overcome it ? All of this, the nightmares, the screams, the memories. Her…" he sobbed, resting his head on your legs as he hid his face. He didn't want you to see him in such a pitiful state.

"Certain things can't be overcome, you just have to learn how to live with it. You do things that you like, meet people that you love, eat what you enjoy the most. You live your daily life and hope that the pain will go away, you change your mind and try to not think about the things that you lost. You learn everything again. Yo take baby step."

"Did you- did you do all of this..?"

"Yes, yes I did…" your voice broke a little but you tried to keep a strong exterior for Peeta, you had to be the one to console him, not the other way around. "We all suffered from what happened two years ago. We all have lost loved ones. Sometimes their presence lingers in the air. You think you hear them, you hear them laugh. But it's just a memory, something your mind made up to make you feel better…"

"I listen to the laughs of someone that I like. I watch him smile. He's just right there in front of me, it's enough. I remember that I'm not alone, I'm not the only one who suffered, we all are here for each other, to help, protect and provide."

"Sometimes I- I hear a laugh. A woman's laugh. I see the glimpse of her smile and I feel the stroke of her hands on my hair. And- It feels so real."

"Does it ?"

"Yeah."

"Isn't it just a memory ?"

"No. It's real. You're real."

"Peeta..."

"I'm so sorry, you deserve so much better than a guy with a bunch of traumas who can't forget about his first love."

"You-" you burst into tears. How could you be the therapist here when this man, this precious, kind and lovable man was degrading himself for others mistakes. When the man that you secretly loved was telling you that his heart could never truly belongs to you ? "You are so much more, Peeta, so much more."

what are 3 of your favorite quotes/lines from each of the eds?

This has been sitting in my inbox for a hot while. At first because I was busy and going to answer it later, and then because I forgot about it (so sorry).

Anyway, this is hard! There are so many good lines in the show, and that is just from the main three cast. I'm going to highlight some lines that I have been replaying in my head most frequently.

Ed: - "Awww. Kitty cat go meow?" - I think about this SO much. It is so funny. Not only is it a good example of the wordplay in Ed's dialogue, but I love how self-aware it is too. Love seeing him rightfully cocky. He's not wrong that Edd spends most of his time, as my dad would say, "bitchin' and moanin'". - " Hey! Slow down, partner!" - Idk I think it is a very cute reaction to Edd attempting physical violence. It is a very older sibling response lmao - "Shhhh! My yeast is rising." - Lots to like here. Classic line, comes out of nowhere, makes absolutely no sense with or without context. Can't get better than this.

Edd: - "Eddy PLEASSSE. I'm counting the sugar!" - It is so silly. The delivery and Edd's expression kills me. I'm a big fan of the kind of raspy whisper Sam Vincent applied to season 1 Edd. It is very cute imho - "IS THAT THE SUPPORT BEAM TO THE HOUSE?!?!?" - Classic. I also like it when Edd is hysterically screaming. - "...but...how could it be? My computations were precise, rigorous, and painstaking, um. This goes beyond science, Eddy. An unfathomable force sends us a clear message!" - I also like Edd's tendency to go on long-winded speeches. It doesn't have its full effect without visuals, since the character acting adds so much. Edd is such a horrendous liar (same).

Eddy: - "Did you see the sparkle in Johnny's eye? Stop me boys, I'm getting frilly!" - Yeah yeah this is low-hanging fruit, whatever. Does not take away from my reaction upon seeing that episode for the first time. I practically died. - "OH, IS THAT SO? AND WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THAT? MISTER I KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT KEVIN KNOWING NOTHING ABOUT MY MAGAZINES?" - It is hard to take dialogue from Eddy and NOT think "wow much to unpack". What is his deal here? I mean, I have my own ideas, but I'm not going to make this list longer than it already is. - "Running out of ideas, Double Dee. Think of something that would make me look good." - He sounds so downtrodden : ( reading the dialogue alone doesn't give that impression, but, in the actual scene, Tony makes the delivery sound super genuine, which is a rare expression for Eddy. I appreciate that decision a lot.

CM HOTCH/REID HEADCANONS

My headcanon about Hotch leaving in Season 12, Reid's reaction, and trying to have it make some kind of sense.

Disclaimers:

This is the first rewatch of the later seasons I've done since it aired on TV, and I've only just finished Season 12 episode 4 (I do, however, know the early seasons ridiculously well).

From LDSK onwards, I only ever really watched it for Hotch, Reid, and the Hotch/Reid dynamic. I didn't really watch it after Hotch left, but caught bits and pieces because my roomates did.

Yes I know why Thomas Gibson left the show and why they had to suddenly wrap up his character. No, I don't condone violence in the workplace. I also never dove deeply into the behind-the-scenes lore of this show, cast and crew interviews, etc etc. This will purely be relating to the show as it was depicted on screen, and my love for the characters as their own entities.

I am not going back to fully source which eps all my observations come from, cos I'm supposed to be working on an assignment rn and CM transcripts are a ducking nightmare. I just wanted to put this idea out there cos I think we all need a bit of self-soothing after the crap they fed us to write Hotch out of the show.

Also fun story I just came back to finish writing this after being interrupted by what I though was someone trying to break into my house at 4am (heard a noise, gate wide open, can't see anyone but damn, scary. My town's big on crime, too). SO my thoughts may now be even more disorganised thanks to the adrenaline crash headache I'm currently experiencing.

So anyway like I said, just finished watching S12E04 Keeper, during which Reid gets a call we don't hear, is visibly upset by it, and takes a bit of prodding to discuss it with JJ and Rossi. He then reveals that he was just told his mother left her care facility on her own and was found wandering confused around a casino. He takes minimal convincing to head back to Quantico and lines himself up another couple of days off to visit his mum (yes I'm Australian, this is how we spell it lol).

MY HEADCANON: This is when Hotch called Reid to tell him that he was going into witness protection and wouldn't be coming back. (Exactly how much was discussed on the phone vs possibly being discussed/explained later in person is of course open to interpretation, but enough for Reid to know Hotch wanted to say goodbye and to not tell the rest of the team).

I know that his mum's issues are an ongoing valid storyline. But this is why it was also a plausible excuse for Reid to come up with on the spot as to why he was upset.

Another thing that makes it entirely plausible that the phone call was about Hotch is the long, significant staring Reid did at Prentiss as she walked away after they discuss what supposedly happened with his mum. To me that could scream that Reid was actually dealing with something team-related, and was already grieving how it would affect the other members of his team that he's keeping it from. He could have gazed down or elsewhere to communicate his worry for his mum to the audience, but he specifically turned and watched Prentiss leave, looking all angsty.

What's a heck of a lot less plausible:

His mum, who has been in care since Reid became a legal adult, suddenly escaping her care facility, despite having been in care for well over a decade and who now needs even more supervision due to Alzheimer's on top of her Schizophrenia. Yeah, escapes happen, but to make it all the way into a casino and being found in a confused state? When this didn't happen before Reid flew up and got her diagnosed her with Alzheimers? Even though she'd been getting some increased freedoms for doing well on her new meds prior to her sudden worsening with the Alzheimer's onset?

Hotch leaving without saying something directly to Reid first. Yeah, I'm a shipper, and I know Hotch has his son to think about, but I call BULLSHIT. Hotch knows all about Reid's abandonment issues and there is no way he'd want to end up on the same mental list Reid keeps alongside Reid's father and Gideon. When Gideon went AWOL, Hotch returned from suspension, despite the fight he knew it would cause with his wife, because "the team" needed him. Then Haley stressed "no, they need Gideon". Fully believe this was all just about Reid (I also kinda low-key believe Haley had an inkling about Hotch's thing for Reid but anyway). Hotch, Reid and Morgan functioned as a team while Gideon was on leave after the bomber case, Morgan didn't even really want Gideon to come back and would not have been that thrown by his absence. Reid however we all know was very emotionally-involved. And it's Reid that Hotch pulls aside to get his head back in the game (and who then gives them a breakthrough in the case shortly after, at Hotch's encouragement). When Gideon had officially left and Hotch addressed the team about it, he mostly directed what he was saying towards Reid, when he said that he couldn't explain why he'd left the way he did, etc. And when Hotch was trying to decide whether he'd take over as section chief after Strauss left, again he was addressing the team but pretty much turned and spoke directly to Reid when he said something along the lines of "if I decide to leave the BAU, you'll be the first to know". He also saw how much it killed Reid to be lied to about Prentiss (and you can see he felt like shit about it during Reid's assessment). This man. Would NOT. Have left Reid without saying goodbye. That's the hill I'm dying on. On top of that, Hotch is always the most emotionally-compromised whenever Reid is in danger, and he knows it (he let Gideon know he was currently a terrible example of "handling things emotionally" while Reid was being held by Hankel, resulting in Gideon's weak reassurance of "We'll get him"; when Reid got on that train with Elle he tried to stop it then immediately went to chat with the sniper; when Reid was in the cult compound he had to hand off negotiations to Rossi; when Reid was protecting Owen Savage; heck he practically yeeted Morgan out of the way when Reid was trying to talk down Maeve's stalker and they heard a gunshot. Etc etc.). And whenever Hotch gets emotionally affected by other things (eg that defence attorney for amnesia/coma guy, or regarding his brother), Reid is the one who can break through that and keep him steady. Reid is VERY IMPORTANT to Hotch and I don't see him hurting Reid in what to him is the worst way someone could do it.

Reid being so chill about Hotch suddenly leaving without saying goodbye. Goes without saying, yeah? But I'll say it. I get that they've been trying to paint him as more emotionally-mature and that he was able to handle Morgan leaving, but it is SO not the same relationship or circumstance and Reid would not have taken Hotch's departure in stride like that. I get that they also wanted the show and its characters to move on as quickly and as apparently unaffected as possible, but it still clearly flies in the face of proper characterisation. Reid is brilliant and back when he was being held by Hankel, I'm sure he could have found any number of ways to communicate with a specific team member at that moment, but he chose Hotch. He knew Hotch would be the only one capable of putting his ego aside at being "picked to die" and to listen properly to the rest of Reid's message. Once he confirmed that his message was correct and that he was in a cemetery, Reid was so sure that Hotch understood his message and would be coming to save him that he let his guard down for the first time. I think he only picked up that gun and shot Hankel with it in the end to just superstitiously make sure that the bullet never did reach Hotch (and to "free" Tobias, or whatever. Either way Hankel wasn't going for the gun or to use Reid as a shield when he turned to face off with the FBI and any of them could have taken him down easily). They've only been getting closer and closer over the years, on-screen and off (Fist-bump anyone? Always standing close together? Plus Reid's been teaching Jack magic tricks and was the one to get him smiling and laughing after Hotch got arrested by SWAT, which you know would make Hotch even more gooey for him). They're 100% an army of 2/hyper-competent power couple (take for instance the way Hotch and Reid were mirrored against Garcia and Kevin when she referred to her own pairing as the President and Vice-President after the bank blew up?) who can probably achieve 90% of the team's success level on their own. That super-serial-killer chick may have talked about Reid losing a "protector" in Morgan, but Hotch has always been the one Reid has come to or looked to. He was pretty distraught about the idea of Hotch leaving to be Section Chief, not that long ago, too. Also, constant super-crush behaviour which I could list but this post is already very long. Reid would not just immediately go "Prentiss is our leader now, this'll be great!". FFS.

Anyway we all know the way they wrote Hotch off was bullshit, hence the suuuper-long monologue to explain everything that's apparently happened off-screen, and yeah he'd totally enter WITSEC without even telling the team (until he decided to resign) when Peter Lewis had already hacked it once and killed the person on it before the team figured out who he was after and got there 🙄. All of it is super implausible. But to me, nothing more so than Reid's poor imitation of shock/surprise and almost total lack of emotional reaction. Him knowing beforehand, because Hotch already said goodbye to him, is the only thing that will ever make me be at peace with this crap from an in-universe POV.

This could all be shot to pieces in the next ep lol, but for now I'm just glad my brain has a way to make sense of it.

Ok maybe this is just a me thing bc I do this a lot but I think you guys would do a lot of stick and pokes together

Like yeah you’d have to talk him out of putting his name on your ass or something but it’s still such a cute little ritual to have matching little hearts on the sides of your fingers

He’d love to look at your little tattoos when you’re laying together, he’d just grab your hand and put your inked finger right beside his, gently tracing his pointer finger over yours and smiling softly

Even though you’re obviously his best friend, he definitely has other friends too, probably some other weirdos at school who hang with him at lunch sometimes

You just KNOW he’d love to show you off to them all the time. And all his friends would give him so much crap for being so in love with someone

But he doesn’t let it get to him too much. There’s pretty much nothing you could do to get him to stop loving you (except maybe cheat, he’s super jealous lol)

I read this thing somewhere that was like ‘treat men like dogs’ and I think it definitely applies here omg

Take him out on walks together, get him a little treat from the store, pet his head when he rests it on your lap when you sit on the couch

His mother and father both aren’t/weren’t the best parents to him, we know this, I’ll let you be the judge of if he has a daddy/mommy kink bc I don’t want to write smut rn

But if you take on sort of a loving parental role in your relationship, he’d fall in love so fast

He loves to say he protects you but let’s be real, he is just a scared little boy, and 9 times out of 10, it’s you protecting him

But play the victim sometimes, let him feel like a big strong man saving his damsel in distress

Did I mention that he gets like super jealous

Seriously have I mentioned that yet

Not even kidding, you saw that episode with the new guy who moved into the house

Tate has 2 types of jealousy: sad jealousy and pissed jealousy

His sad jealousy is probably when he’s already going through something and he sees you talking to another guy and suspects you like him more than you like himself

He won’t go and rage out, he’d just probably hide somewhere and cry alone

If you catch him doing this, wipe his tears away, kiss him softly and give him a tight hug, maybe remind him of how much you love him and how he’s the only one for you

But his angry jealousy

Oh boy

He mostly does this when it seems more obvious that you’re playing into his jealousy, like if you ever try to mess with him or purposefully make him jealous

He will harshly grab your wrist and pull you away from whoever you’re talking to. He’d drag you to the car and force you in, and start driving you to his house.

If he doesn’t do that, he’ll wait until the both of you get home to unleash his anger at you. Whether it be a screaming match or something else, he’s a little psycho sometimes

It’s only because he loves you and he doesn’t want you to leave. Sometimes he tries to hide all that from you but you can always see through it

POMNI:

I guess the first one?

BUBBLE:

Ooh! That's good!

(The bubble enlarges to the size of the characters, and swallows the three whole; this was the mode of transport for some reason. A short time later they were in the Snowy Wasteland)

POMNI:

(She had gotten up and fixed her hat before looking at Jax and Ragatha, that made her jump back and fall instantly)

(They had looked like robots with needles at the end of a long cord. It terrified her)

RAGATHA:

Pomni, dear what's wrong and why do you look like a robot?(She glanced at Jax too) What's going on here?

POMNI:

You're a more scary Robot…

JAX:

Robot Shmobot, it's probably some weird gimmick of this world, right Bubble?

BUBBLE:

Right you are Jax! Some world's you enter will change your appearance so you fit in more! This is one of them! Neat huh?

JAX:

Hell yeah it is, look at this tail thing!(He has been swinging his tail around)

RAGATHA:

(She helped Pomni up) Well, suppose we should figure out what we need to do here.

What you need to do is turn to me slowly.

(Jax's tail stopped and he froze with the others)

(The three turned around, to see a robot with a beanie, purple hair and a black jacket)

???:

Lay down your giant key. And you two needles where I can see them.

(The three did as they were told, but Ragatha spoke up)

RAGATHA:

We don't mean any harm to you whatsoever. We're trying to help save this world from the darkness!

???:

By the darkness do you mean those weird glitchy abominations?

JAX:

Exactly.

???:

(The robot sighed) So what you gonna try and stop them?

JAX:

That's the plan.

???:

Well I'm helping. My name is Uzi. Those things have captured my friend, N. And on top of that they're working with this corrupt human named Tessa.

RAGATHA:

Well, Uzi, we're happy to help! We can defeat Tessa, and get N back!

(Bubble popped out of nowhere)

BUBBLE:

OOOH CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW SIDE QUEST GUYS!!

(A display saying Save N and Defeat Tessa appeared.)

BUBBLE:

You guys can do this while you're clearing out The Abstracted! I'm willing to bet this Tessa person IS the final boss of this world if not a mini boss!

UZI:

Side Quest? Saving my best friend is top priority to me. If you guys aren't gonna help…then I'll save him myself.(Uzi ran off into the wasteland)

(The Gang was trying to figure out what to do next, and of course it wasn't long before Uzi found herself in trouble, as she screamed)

(The Trio rushed in the direction Uzi went to find her face to face with an abstracted Disassembly Drone, who she was struggling to beat)

JAX:

Hey Uzi! Want our help now?(Jax said in a mocking tone)

RAGATHA AND POMNI:

Jax!! Not helpful!

UZI:

Yeah sure help I guess!

(BATTLE START)

(After back and forth fighting The Drone is defeated. 200XP for everyone!)

UZI:

Thanks for the help. You three are good.(She sighs) Guess I do need help saving N. Let's go find him.

(The crew ventured off)

UZI:

I thought Tessa was dead, but I think she took N back to this weird ancient temple. Place is corrupted on its own by a rouge Drone, and this glitchy mess-

POMNI:

Abstractions..

UZI:

Right. The Abstractions came along and messed everything up bad to where lots of folks I know and Disassembly Drones are getting the short end of it.

RAGATHA:

Well maybe we can save some of the ones that are your friends..

UZI:

(She shook her head) Already tried. Once Abstracted, they're a lost cause. Learned that the hard way.

RAGATHA:

Well gosh um… I'm sorry to hear that.

(As the venture continues, The Gang defeats abstracted and talks about their lives sorta and N.)

(They eventually come up on Tessa talking with…. THE DARK ONE?!

(The Gang rushes over and sees Tessa even has an unconscious N in her custody, Uzi quietly tells the others to hide behind a nearby rock to eavesdrop.)

TESSA:

So if I release it, then I can have all the power in the Multiverse huh?

DARK ONE:

That's right. Make sure it kills King Caine's Lackeys. They cannot complete their mission.

TESSA:

Works out but I've got one concern..

DARK ONE:

What's that?

TESSA:

It's more than likely that annoying purple haired worker drone will try to come and save her buddy here(She motions towards N).

DARK ONE:

Take some of my help then(Dark One touched Tessa's arm and it abstracted, making it bigger and probably dealier) DO NOT LET ME DOWN. (He disappeared)

(It was at this point, Jax and Uzi rushed to attack at Tessa despite Pomni and Ragatha trying to stop them)

(BATTLE START)

The battle between the heroes and Tessa was intense. Uzi kept calling Tessa a traitor and some other words. In the end the only one standing was Uzi and Tessa, the other three fell to some strong enemies that Tessa had summoned. Uzi got them too.

UZI:

Do you REALLY think that hooded dude is going to give you what you want?!

TESSA:

(She smirked) Yes actually I do, you little eavesdropper. You weren't here for the full conversation. He hates you Drones just as much as humans do. Truthfully, he was probably human too. So it makes sense.

UZI:

Why?! We sought YOU out to help and now you betray us not once… BUT TWICE?!

TESSA:

Well it's not betrayal if I wasn't allied with you to begin with. Soon enough though your little buddy N here will finally be apart of The Experiments AND Abstracted…(She chuckled) When the dark one introduced me to Abstraction, I became fascinated with the behavioral aspects. Thus, why I was able to control the ones that seemingly killed your allies here and be able to withstand this powerful abstracted arm.

UZI:

Whatever. I'll kill you again.

(She shot her gun multiple times at Tessa, which for as relentless it was, down she fell)

BATTLE END

(UZI gained 600EXP Points!)

(UZI is now level 4!)

(The other three were revived.)

RAGATHA:

You did it, Uzi! I think we oughta upgrade our abilities after we save N

(Of course, Uzi was already on thr case as N rebooted, Jax had been hovering over while Pomni and Ragatha stayed back.)

(He finally booted up) Uzi?

UZI:

N! Thank God! I thought they'd killed you!

Hah. Nope I'm as chipper as ever. Still kicking even though I..um..(He trailed off) Hey! Who are the new guys?

UZI:

Oh, well this one right next to us is Jax. Then over there is Pomni and Ragatha!

Sweet,(N shook Jax's hand and they both hit it off right away, cracking jokes and laughing)

(N JOINED THE PARTY!)

(Then our crew set off closer to the temple, fending off all sorts of Abstracted along the way.)

(He had pulled Uzi aside)

Uzi, something isn't right here.

UZI:

What do you mean?

Think about it.. we just started having issues with that Cloaked guy, those abstracted JUST showed up and suddenly there are three heroes to get rid of them?? This isn't reality, this is just some-

(They failed to realize Pomni was listening in)

POMNI:

You think this is fake?

Think about it. Isn't it a bit strange we had no hints about the abstracted until now?

POMNI:

I mean, we know it's the Dark One that caused all this. King Caine said-

No. Listen. We don't know a King Caine. There's no one in this universe by the name of Caine. I mean think back yourself, along this journey you've all about Hollow Chesstion…and how King Caine just appeared…..

POMNI:

Well the real king got influenced by The Dark One a-

It DOESN'T MAKE SENSE! Doesn't anyone else see HOW CRAZY THIS I-

BUBBLE:

LOOK! It's The Temple!

Oh cool, that's where we gotta go next!

POMNI:

Weren't you just…complaining about how crazy everything is??

It's been four years since The Owl House first aired, and I still can't get over how much I adore Luz as a character and protagonist.

When I first started watching, I was a kid who was going through the hell of distance learning and dealing with some of the worst stress of my life. To help keep my mind off of the hellscape that was 2020, I decided to make it my mission to watch every gay cartoon known to man. And, lo and behold, one of my friends recommended me The Owl House, which had recently finished up its first season. I'd heard about it---and most of what I heard was about Amity, go figure---and I decided to finally check it out.

I sat down and started the first episode. And I was hooked immediately, not by the worldbuilding or the setup, but by Luz herself.

I don't think I've ever instantly connected to a protagonist the way I did when I saw that Luz was in trouble for an out-there book report, and how this wasn't the first time that something like that had happened. Luz was a geeky, fantasy-loving queer girl who was clearly neurodivergent-coded, and at the time, she was around my age. I paused and texted the friend that I was already obsessed with Luz not two minutes in, and then I kept watching.

The world pulled me in, as did Luz's journey. Throughout the hellscape that was hybrid learning, the trials and terrors of junior year, and the stress of college applications, I kept on going back to TOH, and I saw her go from a naive, happy-go-lucky ray of sunshine to a confident teen who felt like she could take on anything to a burnt-out young woman struggling with depression and the weight of the world on her shoulders. Her story and arc still resonated with me, especially once it was made abundantly clear that her story was about the struggles of growing up neurodivergent in a neurotypical world.

Watching and Dreaming, in an incredibly poetic fashion, came out on my eighteenth birthday. I invited all of my friends who'd seen it, including the one who got me into it, and we had a big old marathon where we ate pizza, laughed, cried, and screamed at everything the finale had to offer. But nothing hit me harder then the epilogue.

Even though it took me until season 1's full release for me to watch it, I was Luz's age when A Lying Witch and a Warden released. And in the epilogue, Luz is eighteen and going off to college, ready for her next adventure... which was everything I needed to see.

So... yeah. Luz is always gonna be one of my favorite protagonists, and it meant a lot to grow up with her.

Overall

Really struggling through the first half of the episode there, what with everyone refusing to make a big deal of Alex joining Scorpia, but the second half really saved it and I absolutely adored the story of the bridge and the flashbacks and the fact that Yassen got told the same story as Alex. Loved Alex deciding to help and his conversations with Blunt.

Thoughts/Predictions

Okay just to get a little bit of ranting out of the way, but I cannot deal with everyone immediately being nice to Alex. Like yeah very sad that he’s sad and angsty but can we please at least lock him up for a bit? Why are you letting him go home when you try to make it look like he succeeded, what kind of foolish plan is that?? You’re lucky Yassen actually did take the surveillance off Jack because frankly if I were Yassen I would not have. Half the characters in this episode were absolutely ridiculous and it made me want to scream. I only trust Blunt and Yassen at this point and maybe Alex, who at least thought he was going to prison.

On the plus side, I was so delighted by the confirmation that Yassen didn’t know about any of the secrets, that he didn’t know about Julia’s plan for Alex (and simply never asked) and that he never knew the truth about John either. And gosh that bit he said about how John never played or deceived him, because yeah, I don’t imagine he did. Yassen was never high up enough to play or get info from, but John looked out for him and saved his life. He cared about baby assassin Yassen. Love Yassen being sincere to Alex about John being his friend and wanting him to join Scorpia because he believes Alex can make a good killer and not knowing they want to kill him, it makes for a better story imo.

I really enjoyed Blunt this episode (as in most eps honestly), I liked how he was already planning ahead with the body bag even if Mrs Jones was the one to suggest Alex going in. His scenes with Alex were some of my favourites in the book and the scene on the bridge was just as good as I imagined based on the behind the scenes footage we got ages ago. Love how Blunt managed to make the flashbacks appear before their eyes simply by talking about it, very impressive.

John’s actor is still such a mixed bag for me, but I like how posh he sounds and any scene where his hair looks more light brown/blonde he immediately becomes more like how I imagined John. I hope we might at least get one scene with Alex’s mother, but I’m not holding too much hope. Has she even been named yet? Aside from the grave, I mean. Loved the bit about John having to choose between being a good agent and a good father and picking Alex though.

Also gosh what was Julia thinking, telling Yassen the story about John? I imagine maybe she wanted him to stop getting hung up on wanting to rescue Alex (which I LOVE, he’s very impersonal about it but he clearly cares about Alex and worries about him), but it seemed to have backfired on her, what with him now thinking she’s taking it all too person. Where will this lead? I hope perhaps we will see Yassen choosing Alex over Scorpia, especially once he sees Alex again and he knows Alex will die if he’s around.

Dewey spent a lot of time at your place, especially when you were home alone as neither of you had the luxury of moving out of your childhood homes yet, but it wasn't exactly a bad thing as you had both grown up together, even if you were a year younger; he went through everything with you, from school through to college and university, all the way through getting your first jobs together. He worked with the local police, while you took a job at the local hospice. You were proud of him, though, you had to admit; he had worked so hard on everything and even though people didn't always take him seriously, you always did; you always supported Dewey and made sure that he knew that you would never leave his side. It wasn't just that, though, there was so much more to it.

The long nights Dewey spent in your bed with you, comforting you after bad episodes, ones that made you shake and cry and beg for it to all stop; the nights when he would just lay there beside you while you talked for what seemed like years, only to be violently reminded of the quickness of hours when the sun came up and the birds started to sing. The nights when he would creep over just to cuddle you simply because he had missed your presence; phsyical affection almost constant. Hand holding and he would swing his hand a little when he walked beside you. Resting his head on your shoulder in the back of the car when on road trips with friends. Singing and dancing together in the kitchen. Little pats on the shoulder or the back when he walked past you. Small reminders that he did, in fact, love you.

His sister, Tatum, was out at a party with her boyfriend Stu and his best friend Billy and his girlfriend Sidney, when you went over to see Dewey; the door was unlocked, so you let yourself in, only to find him yawning and stretching, seemingly aching as he grabbed a beer from the fridge and leaned against the nearest counter. Music played faintly from the living room speaker, and when you looked at him, you frowned a little.

"Bad shift?"

"Nah," he shook his head. "Just tiring."

"You wanna talk about it?" You leaned against the counter opposite so effortlessly and so casually that Dewey almost wondered if he was just fooling himself.

But he shook his head, and dared to smile a little, sheepish. "I'm good... thanks."

In truth, some of the banter that the lads at work had poured upon him was weighing heavily on his shoulders; the way they teased him about not admitting his feelings for you, the way that they suggested that there was more going on between you just because he kept that photo on his desk. The one a member of your family had taken when he had come over for a family party, and you were hanging off of him, grinning as you wore his cap, his arm around you to keep you both steady and close. That was the night he had realised. The night he had realised that his feelings for you ran much different than just friends; the night he had realised that he wanted you to be his boyfriend but wasn't quite sure how to say it.

"Y'know," you hummed. "Maybe we ought to do what we used to do... chuck on a really bad film, get in bed and snuggle up, do the cold bed dance."

Dewey couldn't stop the grin that came to his features. The cold bed dance, of all things. "Really?"

"Yeah," you nodded. "I mean, why not? Your sister's not here, your parents are out... we've got the house to ourselves."

He drew a little closer, standing within arm's reach but not quite close enough that he could feel your breath on his skin, the tips of his ears and nose turning a light pink as he looked down at your lips for a moment. "I... maybe I should... maybe I should just go to bed."

"Before you do, there's, uh, there's something I should say," you started, "but I'm not really sure how to phrase it... so, would it be alright if I showed you?"

Dewey nodded, and when you put your hands in his back pockets, he froze, only to relax a little when you pulled him in real close and planted your lips on his, smiling when he kissed back so softly; his hands gripped the counter either side of you, doing his best to keep himself steady, but when you pulled away, he couldn't help but to giggle. Blushing furiously as he cleared his throat.

He couldn't even bring himself to speak, staring at you with that lovestruck puppy dog gaze, his brown eyes so full of it that it made you feel almost sick from the sweetness as you grinned and awkwardly looked away for a second.

"So, uh-"

"Ice cream?" He asked. "I, I mean, tomorrow - ice cream? For a date?"

You looked at him, smiling as you nodded. "Sure... if I can stay the night."

an unsolicited review of ghost files

It took me a while to catch up with everything Ghoul Boys and it's partly because of my busy work schedule and partly because I got nightmares from watching Unsolved Supernatural too much. So it actually took me a lot of courage to watch Ghost Files and I DON'T REGRET ANY OF IT.

I read in an article that this is somewhat the "Taylor's Version" of Unsolved Supernatural, and I agree. It's really an UPGRADE of what was already there like

the episodes are longer

they have more equipment (SLS cam, honeytone, ovlius) in addition to the spirit box, audio recorder, and maglite

their solo investigations are longer and there's this new thing where Shane hides the walkie talkie for Ryan to find

Yeah those are the only ones that I can remember at the moment.

The locations are (in my opinion) a lot scarier than those they've been to. And in the case of Waverly Hills Sanatorium and the Whaley House, they were able to gather more evidences. Now, speaking of evidences, Ghost Files scared me waaay more than Unsolved Supernatural ever did. There are actually times when I look away from the screen because I was really terrified. 1. In Waverly Hills, Shane mentioned he heard footsteps and when they reviewed it, there's actually something behind him. And istg, this, for me, is the scariest thing I've ever seen on any of their shows.

2. St. Ignatius has to be the one that's evidence-rich, and it would've been scarier if only the ovilus didn't call them nerds. On the other hand, the scream in the nun's quarters terrified me. And don't get me started with the puppet. I hated that. I also got creeped out by the fact that it really changed position after Shane left it. 3. I had a hard time deciding on whether or not I'll watch the Hull House episode because devil babies is where I draw the line. However, like Ryan does in every solo investigations, I had to be bigger than my fear. So I decided to watch it anyway. And why didn't Shane immediately realized it when the ovilus goes "DEVIL".

4. I had made a separate blog about Whaley House, and I think it's really wise how they returned to it given how they lack equipment the first time they were there. And voila, it is really, really haunted. I am really terrified of how the answers to the estes method was picked up by the audio recorder. And man, when they started to talk to Violet, I am amazed on how, as soon as they opened the spirit box, she went "VIOLET". And again, Violet deserves better.

5. On Hobo Hill, I had mixed feelings. I will make a separate blog for that. For the ghost they caught in the SLS, I have to admit I was amazed by that. Also, when the figure somehow stretched its arms, that was when Ryan said he felt something touch his head, and I do think that was one of the most solid evidence they had ever captured.

I didn't write anything about Alcatraz because I really didn't find it scary at all. I just enjoyed the episode because of how marvelous the place is. I am an architecture graduate and my thesis was that of a prison, so that episode was truly an eye candy for me. I will be writing a Part 2 to this one where I'll be reviewing the funniest moments or moments I enjoyed the most (although it's pretty obvious it's when the ovilus roasted them and called them nerds).

Ok so bobs burgers did it right

Cartoons. Sitcoms. Whatever you think I'm referring to, they did it right. (See read more for rant) (also I'm never gonna shut up so it's really long and I'm gonna add to it)

Bob's Burgers is an adult swim cartoon sitcom about a family in NJ who owns a burger restaurant. And that's it. That is the whole show. Regardless of what episode you're on, those are constants.

But of adult animation, Bob's Burgers stands out. Unlike most other shows of the genre, Bob's Burgers is about family and compassion. Every single other show in this genre achieves its comedic effect through cruel words or teasing actions. This, when used right, can be okay or even funny. However, the Simpsons, in its popularity, led this to be the industry standard. With the morals at the forefront of the theme, Bob's Burgers is doing something adult animation hasn't done in a long while.

In addition to this, the way Bob's handles topics like queerness, the class system/being poor in the modern era, divorce, sex, or family structures is honestly really interesting.

A family of 5 renting space for their burger place and house wouldn't have a ton of money, especially in today's world. The Belchers are poor, but the writers don't shy away from it. They show this struggle multiple times when Bob or Linda get second jobs (this happens in a couple episodes) to pay for something not typically included in monthly expenses, especially at Christmas.

As for queerness, Bob's Burgers takes a different approach than most. There are uniquely queer characters who are funny, but unlike some other shows, they haven't been the butt of the joke except for once in the first season(kinda). This instance used outdated language (transvestite) because it was 2011 and the writers didn't know any better. Despite that weird interaction, the rest of the episode is really good too and tbh it's one of my faves.

In addition to this(yes, there's more queerness), a lot of people (as far as I can tell and including me) operate under the assumption that bob himself is bisexual. A number of interactions hint at this trait, and while some of the more minute ones could be brushed off as silly goofum puns, the main two are, in my eyes and the eyes of many others, too big to brush off as puns. One such interaction (not in order bc I forgor) is at one Thanksgiving, when bob keeps waking up to a turkey in the toilet and keeps having to buy new ones. At the meat counter, there's a guy there who, at the 3rd (?) visit, says he thinks bob is flirting with him. Bob denies, because he is legitimately just losing turkeys, but the guy still writes his friends number on the receipt bc he "is into sloppy bears" such as bob. At the 4th visit, the guy behind the counter is fully convinced that bob likes him and is pretending to be bad at cooking, and offers to take his break right then and there to have sex with bob. Bob purchases his turkeys, seemingly considering the offer, if he were not married, but eventually shouting "you're out of my league anyway" as he left. The other episode most people use as evidence for Bob's bisexuality is about the time bob and his family get tricked into staying on a cruise boat, with bob being assigned as private chef for the captain who (spoiler alert) is kidnapping crew members. The other chef on the boat has been there forever and has sacrificed quality for speed and quantity. At some point, he locks bob in a freezer (I forgot why tbh) and offers bob freedom if he kisses him. Bob, as before, denies, but, after the chef starts to walk away and leave him in the freezer, he screams, "I'll kiss you!" in an act of desperation, and moments later, "we can do more than kiss!"

OK yeah, this all probably sounds dumb right now but i came here for a hot take not a good or well formed take. The creators/writers of bobs burgers did not shy away from the gay, making headcanons like trans/queer gene look really quite realistic for the future. As a show that has kid characters and mainly caters to middle aged audiences, it kinda is a necessary visibility ao that these middle aged people can take example from this well formed family and expose their kids to the world similarly. At Tina's 13th birthday party, half the guests were sex workers (not made clear in the show, but these perople were either trans or crossdressers or both).

I think, based on experience, that something like this could be a good introduction for these audiences or for them to bring to their own kids. Generally, people of that generation were brought up by more closed minded/less accepting (generally) parents, so visible and plainclothes representation can inform a lot for them. As a queer youth who watches Bob with my dad, I would say that it strikes a good balance for peak enjoyability for all audiences, regardless of age.

Ok so switching gears! The concert of family in animated shows is distorted (as mentioned earlier). However, Bob's Burgers did it right. That's like, the point of this post. Linda and Bob are a middle aged couple who have been married for a couple a decades, probably. However, love is not lost between the two! They're still two passionate, loving, and sexually active spouses! Very often, the belcher adults go out on date nights or spend time with each other at home while the kids are out. They care about each other and enjoy each other's company! This is in stark contrast to other relationships in TV today, as the belcher couple offers a hope for marriage and represents it as an interesting path in life rather than a necessity and burden!

As for the kids, the belchers are realistic yet again! Tina is a 13 year old girl who acts like it! She likes to look at teen boy's butts and she love horses and writing "erotic friend fiction" (short stories of her friends and her where she makes out with her crush)(usually with zombies, too). Tina is a young teen who, though not physically or academically talented, enjoys life through her writing and imagination! She can be jealous of her friends or siblings sometimes, but that's how you are when you're 13! She takes the appropriate older sister role and doesn't really act or look or understand any older than she actually is! Gene is an 11 year old who loves music and his Casio keyboard! He adores his mother and getting into hijinks with his younger sis or friends! While not a big fan of school or physical activity, Gene tries to make every boring task or activity fun and interesting! Gene is enthusiastic and supportive of his family, but develops a sense of responsibility and morality as he starts to mature into tweenhood and tell right from wrong. Lousie is a 9 year old girl, most characterized by her pink bunny ears and killer personality! She's a bit more aged than some of her 9 year old peers, but mainly as a reflexive way to fit in with her siblings'older friends(I assume), and at her core, Louise still has the soul of a child. She's curious and adventurous and wants to take on more responsibility like her siblings, though she tries to hide it. Louise's main conflicts are with the school guidance counselor, Mr frond, but mainly for her victimless pranks and unwillingness to participate in the school system that bores her. In the belcher kids, I look back and see myself as a kid! I was unathletic and bored and musically interested! I liked to write and be responsible like my older sister and make life more interesting! The Belcher family's interactions within their family, to friends, to extended family, and to strangers are reminiscent of real families and real people their age!

2. How did you find out about or discover it?

i'd seen the movie before and when the trailer came out i thought it looked really good so it was on my radar before it came out. but the reason i actually started watching was that i was disappointed in house of the dragon bc daemon and rhaenyra weren't a toxic enough couple when they actually got together and i wanted to watch some toxic romance. lol

ok long version of the story! (sorry if you don't care about hotd lol)

i was really excited about hotd after the trailers started coming out and like the freak i am, i was especially excited to see the insane uncle/niece incest grooming go from gross to fun when they eventually marry and fight a war and everything goes wrong and they're both crazy and toxic and evil. that's my idea of a good time. this shot from the trailer in particular had me excited for this dynamic:

and the beginning was so promising, their scenes when she's still a teenager played by the younger actress milly alcock are very intriguing! creepy but intriguing.

but then episode 7 happens. i knew ahead of time that the plot of the episode was that daemon's wife has just died and at her funeral he fucks his niece, as you do, and then suddenly rhaenyra's husband also dies and they get married for succession war reasons without permission from her father the king who would fucking hate this. insane sequence of events! and i'd heard that the marriage ceremony was going to be valyrian rites with blood and stuff. for the uninitiated, valyrian refers to the (mostly) lost civilization of blond people who ride dragons and do incest and they're rumored to have done blood magic and stuff. so i had high hopes for this whole valyrian marriage rites scene. a blood sacrifice? some animal or...? an altar with LOTS of blood! their dragons take to the air! they should fuck on the bloody altar while their dragons fuck in the air! either way the visuals will be insane and amazing!

yeah, so the episode airs. and i'm BORED. they made this shit boring somehow. the dialogue is bad and so is the directing. they have a bland conversation about their respective marriages and then have some tepid sex. it just doesn't look like they're that into it even. was that intentional? i cant tell. other more interesting stuff happens and then close to the end of the ep shes like uncle i need you so i can win the eventual war that everyone knows is going to be break out so we should get married. hes like hmm ok. but shes already married so they fake her husband's death so he can sail into the sunset with his boyfriend. toxicity and evilness toned down as much as possible. then they marry and the valyrian ritual is just like. fine. no dragons. they cut their palms so there is blood. if i saw it without prior expectations i'd probably think it was kinda cool but i had built it up in my head to be way cooler so.

in the next episode they kinda just act like a normal couple. despite the whole incest age gap uncle niece grooming shit. i wanted them to be screaming. i am sad about it.

im on tumblr and i see a post with a jacob anderson quote saying iwtv is basically a show about a married couple slamming doors on each other. i'd seen some gifs and ofc i'd seen the trailer months ago but this makes me go !!!!! THIS could be the toxic marriage i was looking for! i go watch it immediately. two episodes have aired so far but it only took me one to fall in love! new obsession unlocked! louis de pointe du lac is my truest love!

at that point im barely able to give half a shit about hotd anymore, i dont even watch the last two eps until days or weeks later. (in the last episode daemon and rhaenyra do get more interesting as they have some tension over him acting like he's in charge even though she's the queen and he's just her consort. he also strangles her a bit when he gets upset, which is very unsurprising from a misogynistic violent man who murdered his first wife (of 3) but some people were shocked. insert iwtv comparison here.) (i've also rewatched hotd with new eyes recently and enjoyed those episodes a lot more when i didnt have my own expectations clouding everything. i WOULD recommend the show for anyone who thinks family drama leading to a literal war feat. dragons sounds like a fun time. it is good and hopefully will be continue to be! also that quote from the showrunner saying daemon wanted to marry his brother and his niece was the closest he could get to was fucking life changing. ryan condal said gay targcest rights. also rhaenicent<3)

anyway iwtv becomes my #1 obsession from episode one and has stayed that way ever since!

I find it interesting you note Amphibia to push the envelope more than the TOH since I've seen others consider the latter to push more into serious topics and tones than the former. I've seen some people point to Luz's depressed state in the 1st S3 special as to how 3A Anne should have been written, but I feel like people ignore whether what works for one character would really fit for a very different character, even withstanding the series differences.

i mean, luz is someone who loved her life in the demon realm and hated her home, whereas anne loves her home and certainly did not go to amphibia by choice, so there was a part of her that was clearly just happy to be back with her family, even if she knew that she had to return. but it's not like anne wasn't shown to be stressed and upset, we see that she spends as much time as physically possible trying to build a portal back to amphibia. i enjoyed luz's depression though, i don't mean to undermine that.

and yeah, i can obviously see why people say the owl house explores more serious topics, i just happen to disagree? i don't really know how to explain it, but i feel like the owl house sort of... lacks nuance? it's a show that's really good for kids and i'm glad it exists and have nothing against it, but it's not a show that particularly concerns itself with moral ambiguity (i can only assume the horror show that dana terrace initially wanted to create would have been more complex in that regard). like, amity is a mean girl, but she's pretty harmless and almost immediately shown to be sympathetic. hunter gets compared to zuko a lot, but we never actually see him do anything particularly bad, and he's sympathetic and redeemable and morally pure for most of his screentime. eda is an outlaw but we never actually see her commit serious crimes, she's literally the most ethical and morally upstanding character in the show. even lilith really only made one mistake her whole life and spent the rest of it trying to make up for it. i think there's potential for the collector to be interesting as a completely amoral entity, as opposed to belos who is pure evil in every possible way, but i'll guess we’ll see.

but what i love about amphibia is that anne, sasha, and marcy are all deeply, realistically flawed. after watching the first episode i literally turned around to my brother and said to him, "oh i love anne already. i love that she's mean." what makes anne such a better character than luz (in my humble opinion) is that anne consistently makes bad choices due to her many, many flaws. while luz goes around making friends through helping people out of the goodness of her heart, anne has to be forced kicking and screaming into doing any kind of work for the betterment of anyone else. anne is a friendly and caring person with a big heart, but she's also selfish, lazy, entitled, petty, impulsive, careless, irresponsible and ungrateful. so when we see her grow over the course of the show into someone who doesn't hesitate to help others, it feels significant because we've seen every step of her journey of personal growth. sasha and marcy, while given less screentime, are also characters whose flaws are established and challenged over the course of the show. but i think the fact that anne isn't a perfect person by any means is what makes the show work so well. luz being depressed for half an episode is quite literally the most interesting thing she's ever done, meanwhile anne was out here fucking up left and right, nearly getting her adopted family killed every other episode because she wanted to adopt a cat or eat a pizza.

i'm not saying the owl house is bad because its characters aren't morally grey, but personally, i have absolutely no investment in it or its characters, whereas i still find myself thinking at least once a day "oh god it's crazy how good sashanne is" even though the show ended like a year ago. amphibia also has multiple instances of cannibalism, suicide, and an entire episode parodying midsommar even though there's absolutely no way any of the children watching that episode got the reference (i had to explain it to my brother). i wouldn't call either show dark or nuanced, but amphibia definitely feels darker and more nuanced than the owl house. to me, at least.

I like that we're getting to hear her letters to Mal in voice over because it returns some of the interiority we've lost through the translation from 1st person narrative to screen

bUT immediately my brain supplied the hilarious AU that Mal runs one of those Dear Abby advice columns

Can we just appreciate in general the nuanced and compassionate, yet realistic way addiction is portrayed with Jesper's character???

(Not to mention the fact we see TWO portrayals of addiction in this series--psychological addiction with Jesper and physical addiction with Nina)

Like, it's not a comic relief bit--it legitimately has life-altering consequences for both Jesper, all his loved ones, and those he works with.

We see Jesper both deny to himself and others he has a Problem, yet also struggle against it

["Why didn't you just stop?" Jesper wanted to laugh. He had pleaded with himself, screamed at himself to stop.]

He fucks up and hurts people he (and we the readers) love because of it. Yet the narrative remains continuous in its portrayal of Jesper as someone with steadfastly good intentions and a good heart who is struggling with unhealed issues

["There's a wound in you, and the tables, the dice, the cards--they feel like medicine. They soothe you, for a time. But they're poison, Jesper."]

Alina Starkov is truly a woman of the people

Zoya's got so much internalized racism and fear around being mixed race herself because of her upbringing, seeing how not only just her father was treated but Suli in general

She's lashing out because she's afraid and conflicted

And she's also feeling jealous and uncertain about her place being favored by the Darkling (which he has fostered because he's a manipulator of the worst kind)

Kaz carrying Milo the goat and looking absolutely Done will never not be funny to me

More show-added worldbuilding appreciation from me

The posters styled after Bolshevik revolution/soviet propaganda posters is such a wonderful touch by the props/set folks

And again, the invented script for written Ravkan (and all the languages, but we’ve mostly just seen Ravkan and Kerch written so far) makes my linguist nerd heart sing

Kaz: initiate mastermind scanners for useful information and/or potential blackmail

Kaz: BEEP BEEP impending betrayal detected

Kaz: initiate 5-D chess-level planning consisting of labyrinthine layers upon layers of traps, feints, and manipulation

I love that they gave her a physical object for Inej related to her family.

In the books (again, because of interiority) we get literal flashbacks of them, as well as many phrases from her parents she repeats or hears internally ("The heart is an arrow...", "Climb, Inej")

But that’s not easily translated to a visual medium. So instead we get this great little physical/visual token of that.

It does such heavy lifting not only in that it shows us how deeply Inej's faith directs her morals (like how torn she was when Arken connected over their faith), but also shows how much she still holds the memory/hope of her family close to her; that she's never accepted that her life in Ketterdam was just it now.

Good, good storytelling work

That little glance down and then away-!!!

And then immediately he's harsh and cruel about it to try and push her away from him--to push hIMSELF away from her!!!

I'm so glad they basically got to keep Nina's and Matthias' story the same (aside from minor details obv) down to exact lines

Danielle Galligan and Calahan Skogman breathe such life into the cores of these characters and all their nuances

[Matthias had always fought his own decency. To become a drüskelle, he’d had to kill the good things inside him.]

All through this episode, even in this first scene, you can see Nina's words start to scratch away at him

He's gonna have her in his head for the rest of the night

LOVE THE WHOLE CONCEPT!

Love this addition to the world, love how it's not finished/is kinda ramshackle with sliding between the two tracks, love the weird systems set up he's developed to cross multiple times with the sound of hitting the metal, love it all

I'm so happy Nadia is a black woman!!!

We get so many queer characters of color! I can't wait until we get Tamar (and Tolya ofc) introduced in the show so we can have the badass wlw couple we deserve

BOTKIN!! So glad he makes an appearance!!

I could so easily him being cut from another version of an adaption so this makes me so happy

Part of what endeared Botkin to me in the book was how, even though he is a harsh teacher, he always treated Alina like every other student and demanded her best work

Like I know this is supposed to establish character dynamics and how Zoya has this social position she's defending and how Alina is gaining credibility

Another character I can’t wait to see interact with Nikolai on screen because their relationship is hilarious to me

I've mentioned it before, but the show more heavily leaning into the idea that Grisha power can sort of be drawn out or kicked on by sudden pain and/or fear is such an interesting one

Because it implies about the nature of Grisha power that it developed similar to other unconscious survival mechanisms--like adrenaline numbs out bad injuries or allows muscles to surpass normal limits, its something that helps keep Grisha stay alive in a life or death situation

[...Jesper could feel himself coming alive, the worry that had been dogging his steps ... falling away. He felt free, dangerous, like lightning rolling over the prairie.]

[He'd knew his guns better than he knew the rules of Makker's Wheel. Jesper focused on the bullet, sensed the smallest parts of it. Maybe he was the same. A bullet in a chamber, spending his whole life waiting for the moment he would have direction.]

So I just want to examine the Crows' "we were pretty sure we were going to die but we actually pulled through and are somehow still alive???" reactions for a minute:

1) Inej, ofc, her first reaction is prayer which makes me emotional

And then, she looks over at Kaz because she wants to see if this finally shook something loose from that cold exterior (because tbh, at this point, it's probably the first time she's ever witnessed Kaz escape death first-hand)

2) How fucking beautiful Jesper looks?? 😍😍

[Jesper's hair was mussed, his pupils dilated. He seemed almost drunk, or like he’d just rolled out of someone’s bed. He always had that look after a fight.]

3) And Kaz, of course as always, is looking at Inej (and then looking away from it all)

It's gonna get you in big trouble one day, Kaz

AND how Inej and Kaz hold eye contact for a moment before they both look away???

And I feel Malina in this chili's tonight

Oh! Something I forgot to add I noticed during the train fight scene, Arken has these depictions of saints hung up on the walls!!!!

Again, major major ups to the prop/set people for adding all these small details!! It makes the world feel so full and lived in!
