Hey what do you think of Master Khoga? I love the yiga in general but Khoga's been kinda divisive. Personally, I love him!
Hey, thanks for the ask!
He actually was my light in the tunnel while playing TotK, his boss battles were delightful and his whole persona was a breath of fresh air --I was grinning every time he was on screen, and I'm super happy they allowed themselves to get really goofy there. I really adored TotK's yigas, I think they make for great antagonists even from a gameplay perspective, as they directly interact with the Ultrahand mechanics and give a much needed spark to the Depths.
There's always the notion that, you know, it would have been cool to enrich the whole "the yigas have an actual reason to be pissed off, and they have gotten yet another step closer to Team Rocket level of shenanigans since BotW, where they already had that very well paced build-up of goofs, instead of exploring actual grievances with Hyrule, and given the game it could have been interesting", but I dooon't think the yigas, as they have been set up by the games, serve to explore this side super well given they are being undermined by the tone at every step. So I think the yigas are fine as is, but I just wish we would have had something else to fill up that role. In the absence of that, yeah, Kohga and the Yigas (great band name) might be a little much and/or underwhelming under a certain light, but I had fun, and I feel like everybody who worked on them had fun too, and that's good for me honestly haha

baby aubri! lore under the cut
to sum up her backstory: her mother riya became a social outcast from gerudo town for allegedly getting together with a yiga blademaster, soon to be aubri's father (but with no proof to convict her for conspiring with the enemy.) the only traces of her sheikah heritage are the light pink highlights in her hair. they both agree aubri's father should stay away from her growing up for everyone's safety - she and her mother live as nomads, but mostly hang around the akkala region. aubri receives a summons back to gerudo town age 6, but her mother ignores it as she doesn't want her to be sheltered - but ends up being too harsh / emotionally distant with her at times in her attempt to raise her to be strong.
6 more years pass, and at age 12 during a visit to gerudo desert they're ambushed by the yiga, her father isn't there but riya surmises he betrayed their location. they barely survive the encounter, but young aubri is slashed across the abdomen by a demon carver, leaving her with this scar:
Tumblr media
riya out of desperation drops her off in gerudo town for medical help - but quickly flees before anyone tries to question or arrest her again. she decides it's too unsafe to stay around aubri, and it's for the best that she spends the remainder of her childhood in the protected walls of gerudo town. she then sets off on a mission to avenge her daughter...
meanwhile aubri trains to become strong enough to destroy the yiga clan herself someday, clearing them out of the gerudo province to make the region safe for her people, and reunite with her mother.
she still has a rebellious streak from her mother's teachings, spends most of her days escaping from town and riding sand seals (without a license!!)
her gregarious personality was damaged by the yiga attack; her new cynical attitude drives a wedge between girls her age. but she later finds unlikely solidarity with a girl a few years older, the queen of crabbinesss herself: calyban. they become proud haters TOGETHER. the story begins when she comes of age to leave.
she may have met twigs during a visit to kakariko village many moons ago, although she was too young to remember. but twigs does.

ok hi welcome to a very long and image heavy post about the toxic yaoi story of astor the shitty wizard and skooga the wretched footsoldier...
come and ponder this wretched orb...
Tumblr media
(this ended up so damn chaotic and messy but very on brand for tumblr infodumping i guess... this started off as just pasting a thread but it became a lot longer and informative because i realized i haven't really shared backstory here... im always yappin on twt they can never truly silence me.)
ok, also, this isnt a "ship" for the sake of romance, really, its very toxic intentionally... I feel I have implied throughout my drawings that he and skooga have something depraved going on too…. It’s skooga that initiated the pursuit, ironically too.. he wants to piss off his mom…
Wretched mommy does NOT like Astor at all due to her own history with the shitty wizard cult… she does not want her wretched son getting involved with that stuff either and it scares her that he’s pulled the wool over master kohga’s eyes… deep in her orb she has a bad feeling…
skooga hates hates his mommy as he gets older… he doesn’t remember her involvement with that cult (intentionally) but he does remember her in a way he internalized as abusive… her grief…
lamented on here:
Tumblr media
He resents having to be raised by his brother too, he truly hates everyone and everything so ofc a freak who wants to bring forth the end of days is appealing to him, and his mommy don’t like it so he likes it even more…
Tumblr media
i always imagined that it was due to the yiga's lack of allies otherwise that they even accepted the cult to integrate with them... (i DO have my own wack theory that the cult ARE sheikah but thats for another post. im trying really hard to make this just on toxic yaoi.)
my fanfiction is something of an au i suppose because i combine the events of aoc and make them become botw, the calamity does still happen, its just prolonged a bit... what will be will be!
Tumblr media
skooga found the goddess harp in the woods as a child while following around his sister and link... and he's once again reminded of it while following along with astor. like. its fucking real:
Tumblr media
skooga also has his own sort of.. political agenda? too big for his tiny shorts... he wants to run around unmasked, they all should. they shouldn't have to hide who they are, the lives they end should very well see their faces as the last thing they see. he doesnt want to be covert and anonymous... so he brings up the harp and working undercover in the castle... (shay tags along as well on the research team, she loves digging up the guardians and playing in dirt... in totk shes a depths researcher)
so he gets his wish~
Tumblr media
he becomes the court poet, all while his songs are passed back to the yiga clan and astor as intel... i think astor knows something about that harp tho... it IS a relic of the goddess, much like the master sword... it has been passed down through her hands herself... it's been known to control time, open portals to hell -
Tumblr media
why IS there no shadow temple in the hyrule of botwera? could it be because of the kings prior refusing to accept the bloody history of greed and hatred that comes with the land...? perhaps it lies in wait and just needs that sacred melody again... or maybe their sage is taking A NAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so the harp is a valuable asset... i like to imagine that the cult practiced bizzare tantric-adjacent rituals, and it gets weird... most likely how they all ended up being killed by the very thing they were worshipping... all but astor, he is bound to the calamity and probably has it's insentient voice in his head at all times too, astor was chosen as it's conduit to feed the beast... (as is his own demise...) it doesn't bother him tho, he enjoys the servitude.
Tumblr media
he also enjoys toying with skooga in the same way a lunatic would torture an animal too... because skooga is kind of naive and trusting when he isn't running his mouth... and i feel like it's also a weird.. chain of command thing... he gets off on watching him do what he says, all of them, while knowing he is going to kill them all... skooga is good for milking little bits of malice.
Tumblr media
side note: blahblah sexuality blahblah skooga never found himself attracted to women. i'd say he's quite content and comfortable being a man also, but often thinks of himself and behaves as very effeminate... hes a gay boy. A BISHONEN. ok, alright. he still worked for his mother as well... to be honest, as he became an older teen-young adult he just enjoyed gossiping with the women, especially when they had raunchy stories to tell about the royal guards who he saw regularly now as the court poet... even link's father perhaps... i wonder why the court poet doesn't think link comes from "nobility"... hm... perhaps his father liked banging whores. maybe he really liked to drink...
Tumblr media
(more things for another post. the kids' mother grew up during the time when the sheikah were totally banished from the kingdom... as it wasn't until zelda was born, canonically, that king rhoam set out to repair that allyship... long story short for this post - the father was murdered by a royal guard because it was technically ok by the law)
Tumblr media
Now and for context.. this takes place right after skooga’s failure flop attack… he never wanted to hurt zelda either… he was hoping to scare her and link and drive them away out of the desert… he needs to make it look like he ain’t gone soft for her too… (hes a big star, hes the court poet AND the asshole in the yiga memory!)
Tumblr media
It works out not great, it turns out link is actually terrifying with that cursed blade… Astor also urged this attack because it would serve as a distraction while he prepares to reap the orbs of the others… he would also be delighted seeing the yiga kill their own for treason...
Tumblr media
Then ofc zelda knows what’s going on too… she’s always sort of sensed something in her ~court poet… he’s always been on edge and hateful towards link… she can’t blame the wretched guy tho. At this point she doesn’t even value her own life. She can’t do what she’s “meant to”… this is why he sympathizes and relates to her... out of everything he's got going on, he actually enjoys the court poet gig... he wants to learn more about ancient history too... the ancient history of his people... the reason why they divided... it really hits him that his father was murdered for simply being. he never really thought about those things until venturing out among others. his sister talked about it but he called her a annoying. He doesn't want any more wars, he doesn't want to be divided, he think's zelda's father is trustworthy... he truly believes in his people's ingenuity, and has faith in their allyship... he isn't using them...
Tumblr media
it then very suddenly hits him that that is what exactly astor is doing.... he has an existential crisis with impa:
Tumblr media
it is all much too late, tho...
Tumblr media
skooga worked as an excellent distraction and many were killed...
Tumblr media
i never really thought about it until now, but he probably carries a certain grief with him as well... he was as close as one could be with astor and he went along with it. his own grief blinded him too... he was just like his mommy 💔 so that's that on that, got a little off topic in some spots but i tried... if i think of anything else that i should write a deep dive on i will... or if any of u here want to ask about anything specific always feel free. tldr; its really just. naive young man gets bamboozled by an old creep. is that a trope? idk. its toxic yaoi.

Every now and again I remember the Vento Aureo Botw/Totk au I was working on and go !!! It’s still definitely a work in progress, but I’ll write my ideas under the cut! Any comments or suggestions or anything are so so welcome!
Giorno- A Hylian stable hand who previously worked with his parents. He recently stole his favourite horse to escape and travel to see more of Hyrule and all its creatures.
Fugo- I’d love to still make his background besmirched nobility, but am not entirely sure how to do so in the setting of Botw. He’s now a Hylian explorer who travels place to place, not sticking around anywhere very long until he met Bruno in lurelin village.
Bruno- A Hylian fisherman from lurelin village who took over his father’s trade. He loves and takes pride in the home he’s built, but still loves to travel and bring souvenirs back home. (I may be biased but I am such a huge lurelin village fan).
Leone- Her backstory is also still a work in progress, but I love the idea of her being a Zora from a domain outside of Hyrule, perhaps a saltwater one? She met Bruno when he was out on the ocean fishing. Both were immediately intrigued by the other, and began to seek each other out until Bruno finally asked her to move in with him. (may be taking some liberties but this idea is so so cute to me).
Narancia- He may have the least fleshed out backstory out of the gang so far, but I feel he’d be a Rito who has taken it on himself to see the world, ignoring the talk of Hyrule’s dangers.
Mista- A Hylian also from lurelin village who now travels the nearby jungle investigating the zonai ruins. At some point he managed to find the rubber armor on an expedition which greatly helps him continue navigating the surrounding environment. Despite his studies, he mostly tends to hang around the lakeside stable, trading stories with other travelers and helping maintain the place.
Trish- A Gerudo vai with an unknown father, raised in Gerudo town by her mother until she reached the age to leave on what would be her courtship journey. However, her main ambition is to really explore around and experience the best of what Hyrule has to offer, eventually finding a place as an extremely popular traveling musician.
Doppio/Diavolo- I think these two work perfectly with Diavolo being a high ranking yiga clan member, with Doppio being the alter who goes on missions in disguise for the clan. While they definitely have a less intimidating/ more silly vibe, I think Diavolo could still be a strong threat, and Doppio with a banana phone has got to be a highlight.

Meet my Zelda BOTW/TORK oc! Sorry that the pic is kind blurry I'll try to draw him more down the line. I made him for an rp server and I decided to share him on here.
BASIC INFORMATION
Name: Kalvet
Nicknames: Kal or Vet
Age: 26
Gender/Sex: Male
Sexuality: Pan
Species: Hylian/Shekiah
Occupation: Traveling Merchant/ Thief
APPEARANCE :
Body type: Skinny, but muscular
Height: 5’7
Weight: 159 lbs.
Skin: White
Hair color/style: Blackish blue. His hair is long and messy.
Eye color: Red
Scars: His right eye is scarred.
Accessories: N/A
PERSONALITY:
Basic Personality: Kalvet appears to be a kind and smooth talking gentleman. Which is true, somewhat. He appears that way to get clients to purchase his wares. As well as to throw people off his scent of being a thief. On the job as a thief he’s silent and ruthless. Almost as if Kalvet’s a monster rather than a human. Yet despite this he isn’t heartless and will give support in some way or fashion. How much support he’ll give depends on how close he is with the person who needs it . If they’re a stranger or an acquaintance he'll give them the bare minimum. If they're friends then he’ll do whatever he can to help them. However, having someone that close to him is rarity since Kalvet has the belief that most people will just like him to get what they want. So he tends to be cordial with people at best. If he does find someone who he wants to get closer to then he will be more friendly with them, but he will still keep his wits about him. With those who he considers as friends he will playfully tease them and will open up to them a bit more. Once he recognizes them as a friend he will be loyal to them. More than willing to go through hell and back for them. This is especially the case if someone gives him a scale from one of the great dragons. Since he always looked up to them because of the stories that his family told him. Speaking of, Kalvet is a great story teller, and will tell stories that his parents told him or stories about his travels.
Likes: Dragons, dragon scales, exploring, finding new places, hot springs, voltfruit, sweet foods, telling stories, campfires, the desert, sand seals, riding sand seals, zora’s domain, swords, Faron, myths and tales
Dislikes: The Yiga Clan, the Yiga Clan hideout, spicy foods, people asking about his eye, bows, the cold, Hebra, lairs, getting into Gerudo Town, getting up early, and being a burden to people
Strengths: Kalvet is a very skilled swordsman and even knows how to use two of them at the same time. In fact his main weapon is two hook swords. Kalvet is also very perspective and remembers little details about anyone he meets.
Weaknesses: Isn’t trusting of people and will bottle up his emotions.
RELATIONSHIPS:
 Parents:
Mother and Father= Deceased
Gerudo Woman (haven't thought of her name yet)= Adoptive Mother
 Siblings: N/A
Friends/Acquaintances: Link, Impa, Purah, Paya, Robbie, Jerrin, Granté, Beedle, Kass, Riju, Pritana, and Nali
BACKSTORY:
Kalvet lived an average life in a small village. The village was small enough where everyone knew and got along with each other. He had parents who loved him as well as friends that cared for him. Despite being an only child, Kalvet had many children around his age that he could play with. He played with them so much that he considered them all as siblings. Every night before he went to bed his parents would tell him the stories of the great dragons. Kalvet was so fascinated by the dragons that he always dreamed of seeing one, or at least getting something from them like a scale. Kalvet swore that when got older he would take his parents to see the dragons. However when the boy was 12 his life changed for the worst.
During the return of Calamity Kalvet's village was attacked. Not only by the Calamity itself, but by some Yiga Clan members. The once peaceful and beautiful village was now nothing more than ash and ruin. The fire roared throughout the village as he tried to save his parents, but unfortunately he couldn’t save them. Kalvet tried to find some of his other villagers. While doing so he found out that one of the older children joined the Yiga Clan. Feeling enraged and betrayed he went to attack him, but Kalvet couldn’t even come close to him as he was slashed in the eye, making him blind. Despite that he still tried to fight, it wasn’t until he was knocked out that he stopped.
When he woke up he saw that the Yiga Clan had been long gone, but his eye was patched up by some of the knights that had come over to check things out. Kalvet had explained everything that had happened, The knights swore that they would find and kill the Yiga who burned and killed everyone in his village. Well, almost everyone, that person who joined the Yiga might as well have been dead to Kalvet. As he residented him and resented everyone. Stealing from any and everyone for survival. It wasn’t until his teenage years where he started to trust people again. That was through his adoptive mother, a gerudo. It took him a while to trust her, but once he did the woman had taught her how to use swords. Particularly the hook swords. Still angry at the Yiga he vowed to steal any and everything from them just like they did to him. He would even make money off of them by selling their equipment to anyone who would buy it.

────⊱⁜⊰──── Shadow Over Hyrule ────⊱⁜⊰────
The people of Hyrule have abandoned their peace and unity in exchange for luxury. In their divided state, monstrous forces grow more powerful in an attempt to resurrect their king, Demise. Three warriors who possess the blessing of the Goddesses form an alliance to prevent a brutal war.
────⊱⁜⊰────
Pretty basic idea, but I think it’s fun 👍 Here is a more detailed description: (keep in mind this is probably going to change in the future) it’s cheesy so bear with me
Like I said, Hyrule is no longer a joint force. The Rito, Zora, Gerudo, Sheikah, Gorons, and Hylians no longer see each other on equal terms. While the Gorons manage to sustain neutrality, everyone excluding the People of Central Hyrule have fallen victim to immense poverty. Central Hyrule is walled off from the starvation and scarcity surrounding it: the people within its borders live very indulgent lifestyles and are unaware of the dire state of their neighbors. The Royal Hylian family has become corrupt and hellbent on perpetuating tradition, so much so that when their firstborn child had the mark of the Goddess on the back of their hand, they went to extreme lengths to uphold the family image.
Beyond the walls lies desolation. Zora’s Domain is flooded and riddled with disease, Gerudo Valley is a derelict shell of its former glory, and there is nothing left of Rito Village but ash. Despite this, the people of these nations found a way to pull through. They formed ramshackle sanctuaries and communities to accommodate the remaining survivors. Because of poverty and hunger unfortunately, violence among these communities is inevitable. Many youths are attempting to cultivate environments to put a stop to this disorder, mainly the Resistance and the Yiga Clan.
Demise’s army develops behind the scenes… or under the scenes I guess. Yeah, there are massive catacombs underneath Hyrule and they house the Twili People. The Twili are not monsters, nor are they even a part of Demise’s forces. In fact, they are forced to serve Demise against their will. (I’m gonna develop this more later, it’s a big fat WIP rn. The characters that will be the main antagonist forces will be Demise, Ghirahim, Zant, Vaati, and Yuga, all of which are exclusively tied to a region underneath Hyrule. Ghirahim is in the Lanayru region, Zant in the Eldin Region, Vaati in the Faron Region, Yuga in the Hebra region, and Demise in Central Hyrule. I’m tired lol)
ALRIGHT FOLKS TIME TO TALK ABOUT THE CHARACTERS WOOOO!! I’ll just explain some of their backstories bc I want to save their actual arcs and stuff for the comic. Keep in mind I am NOT a writer lmao
Shown are the three “warriors” who wield the blessings of the Goddesses Din, Nayru, and Farore (Power, Wisdom, and Courage respectively). We’ll talk about the very top one first because he’s my favorite <3
Bestir Ganondorf Rova ────⊱⁜⊰────
Bestir’s name was changed from Ganondorf to protect him. The Royal Hylian Family would kill him if they found out he was the first Gerudo Male to be born in more than a century. He was raised by twins Fyre and Aice Rova with his sister Nabooru (he calls her Nabbi). Nabooru was always far more outgoing and athletic than her brother, but Bestir had always had a way with words. He was cunning and knew how to make people do what he wanted. This duality would usually result in them playing tricks on the Hylian guards patrolling the area. They even became friends with some of the guards on duty. Eventually though, tragedy befell the Gerudo and him and his sister were left as orphans at the age of ten. He fled to the nearest settlement, hand-in-hand with Nabooru, and stumbled upon a tavern in the southern Hebra region named Telma’s Bar. The siblings were taken in by the tavern’s owner, Telma, who had also taken in various other strays. Among these strays were Remedy, Key, Shad, and Ashei, all of whom were left homeless after the destruction of Rito Village. After about a year, Bestir is visited by the Goddess of Power Din in a dream. If I go any further I will end up spoiling stuff so mehhh I’ll just move on to Sheik
TL;DR — The only sane one of the three and an orphan who maxed out his charisma stat.
Sheik Nexus Hyrule (prev. Zelda Nexus Hyrule) ────⊱⁜⊰────
Sheik was the firstborn child of the Queen of Hyrule and was born with the mark of the Goddess on the back of their left hand. This sent the Royal Family into a frenzy as the mark had not been seen among the people for centuries. However, contrary to what legends would usually suggest about the Goddesses Vessel, Sheik was born with jet black hair rather than a golden blonde. When the heir turned six, their parents made the decision to change that. They bleached the child’s hair on a monthly basis from then on out, presenting the change to the public as a miracle from the Goddess Hylia. Eventually their monthly bleaching ended up in disaster, burning the child’s face and leaving them with a permanent scar. Sheik had always been discontented with their home life, but this tipped them over the edge. They began to lash out and became angry. They packed a small bag with little to none of the basic items they needed to survive and left the castle. Their first night under the stars, away from their lavish life at the castle, they receive a dream from the Goddess of Wisdom Nayru.
TL;DR — A really really angsty teen with horrible familial trauma and anger problems.
Link ────⊱⁜⊰────
That’s it. That’s his name. He has no memory of who he was in a past life, all he knows is that he wasn’t always like… that. He is aware of what is wrong with him and why he looks the way he does, but his mental is a bit of an enigma, especially to him. He knows that he had been cursed; that there is something unwanted inside of him. A parasite. I really can’t say much more about his backstory because I don’t wanna spoil the comic, so I’ll just say that he hates his superiors, in particular Ghirahim and Yuga, and he is really romantically frustrated. He is a Shadow, which means he is basically a normal person who has become corrupted, or “Twilit”. Basically they have big evil tapeworms that make you really strong and scary (think how Darbus became Fyrus in TP). The Shadows are kind of a method Ghirahim uses to keep the Twili serfs in line. If the parasite is removed, the Host dies. Oh yeah, he also will not hesitate to fuck you up so bad you get turned into a headline. He gets visited by Farore, Goddess of Courage, bla bla, no one cares.
TL;DR — Ruthless murderer with a parasite, amnesia, and no bitches.
It’s kinda sad because Bestir is eleven and is literally babysitting two grown ass adults because they are both so unhinged and hate each other’s guts so much that nothing gets done.. just thought I’d put that out there. Luckily Telma helps him because she is a girlboss.
────⊱⁜⊰────
If you are reading this tysm, like I said this is prone to changes so don’t get too attached to any certain part of my really rough outline of my story. Ily all and thank you for the support 💖 Reblogs are greatly appreciated!

More Pony Zelda AU
Tumblr media
So I’ve actually been loving this au so ima bug y’all with more!! These messy as hell drawings display how Zelly turned into a pony so here’s the backstory!! Remember that Zelda doesn’t get her wings until much later when she unlocks her powers!
While visiting the two available springs in hopes to gain her powers, Zelda decided to visit Lurelin Village to check up on it and to get away from the castle for longer. She is accompanied by at least two guards at all times as this was before Link was assigned to her. On her way back to Kakariko Village for a pit stop, Zelda and her guards were ambushed by the Yiga Clan, and she was separated from her attendants. Zelda tried to run as far away from the Yiga as she could, and accidentally ended up setting foot on Mount Lanayru in attempt to loose them in the ice and snow. Zelda was eventually cornered by the clan, and just as they aimed to strike her, a low, power growl shook the mountain. Naydra, the Guardian of the Spring of Wisdom flew down from above them, roaring loudly. Everyone was frozen with fear as the dragon came to a stop, floating above them. Naydra made one final roar, directed at the Yiga clan, her magic freezing the foot soldiers in ice, and shattered only a second layer from the mighty roar. Naydra then came down straight towards Zelda, and she could only watch in fear as she was engulfed by the dragons mouth. The next thing Zelda could remember, was the slight breeze flowing around her, and a wonder ours amount of pain flowing through her body. She was found by Sheikah soldiers who heard the commotion, only to find dead Yiga and royal guards, and a light blue unicorn sitting on top of the Princesses clothes. To the shock of the kingdom, they’re beloved princess had somehow been turned into a unicorn, and there was no way to turn her back. The priests called it a curse, a punishment or setting foot on the sacred mountain before her 17th birthday. Her father forbade her from leaving the castle until further notice, and Zelda isolated herself from everyone. It wasn’t until 8 months later, when her father decided it was time for her leave the castle yet again, out of need for his daughter to still seek the sacred springs, and out of the hurt of how his daughter has been handling her new form. In order to keep her safe from attack, he decided to assign a new guard to her, the young solider, and hero of the land, Link.
This au was heavily inspired by a fic I’ve read, I believe it’s called Dragon Knight, that’s probably wrong but I will update it if I find it again lol; where Link is turned into dragon, and Zelda is stuck with a little Sky Noodle as her companion. It’s awesome and completed and I highly recommend it! But instead this is if Zelda was turned into a pastel horse and Link is the only one he doesn’t think it’s a curse. Please enjoy my fast and bad art and my rambling on what I think the backstory is lol

What's Wild's backstory for the IAU again? I can't remember T^T
He was adopted when he was little— Impa found him injured after an attack by the Yiga clan (group that hates anyone with powers) and asked Time if he could take care of him while he recovered and she did some digging and figured out who he was. Time and Malon end up adopting him of course :)
I’ve written it out actually— it was one of the first fics I wrote for the Incredibles au! if you wanna read it the ao3 fic is here (there’s a tumblr version too but idk where it is XD)

yknow how i mentioned I'm thinking of writing a spite fic that's just TOTK but the narrative is allowed to acknowledge that imperialism is really fucking evil? Yeah so I might be outlining that fic and let me tell you i have Plans. I've now got a whole backstory about the Gerudo sage, namely what kind of person she must have been to be in the position to meet Rauru and Sonia (aka accompanying Ganondorf to Hyrule Castle, meaning someone he put a lot of trust in), while also being the kind of person that Rauru and Sonia would consider a viable option for a Sage (aka someone clearly opposed to Ganondorf). That's an interesting contradiction, and made me wonder why this woman would be part of Ganondorf's inner circle, but also look like his political opponent on a surface reading, and I wound up following that to the logical conclusion and now her story is making me really, really sad.
Also I found the helmets worn by the four non-royal sages to be really ominous and creepy, along with their complete lack of names, personalities, and that one scene with the four of them spontaneously swearing eternal loyalty to Rauru with zero prompting yet still speaking in perfect unison. That has Implications. I have done things with those implications.
Oh and I thought it was kinda bullshit that Sheikah are completely brushed off in this game, so I dug into wtf is going on there. I mean, it's weird that to fight a war against the Gerudo, Rauru decided that it would be a good idea to try recruit a Gerudo woman to fight against her own rightful king, instead of like... recruiting a Sheikah, y'know the people that can be trusted to be diehard supporters of the Hylian throne. That's a really weird absence, and I've decided that the fourth sage was originally a Sheikah, and they wound up turning on Rauru (over legitimate greivances!), and the resulting backlash caused the split that formed the Yiga Clan, AND caused them to be allied with Ganondorf.

Random tangent, but am I the only one pissed off at the AOC DLC? Specifically in regards to Sooga's backstory. I might actually have to go through this shit in sections, like an essay, just to break down how horribly written, not thought out, and borderline insulting it is.
1: Queer coding.
When watching the cutscenes from the base game, it's very clear that Sooga and Kohga are a lot more than just 'friends.' they act very intimate with eachother, with Sooga being the only one we see directly touch Kohga (when not in battle.) Their dialogue is also full of not only character, but equality. Kohga sasses him and snaps at him, but it's never in a demeaning, "IM THE LEADER!!!" Kind of way. If anything, their interactions feel like they're on the same playing field. They feel like they're equals, instead of just a leader and his bodyguard. Sooga makes decisions and helps Kohga with plans directly. Plus, they argue like a married couple.
The DLC's reveal of Sooga's backstory directly contrasts how they act by trying to play it off as if they had a Father&Son dynamic, when they were very obviously written to be queer codded in the base game.
2: how it affects Sooga's character.
Sooga is loyal to the Yiga. Let me repeat that.
Sooga is loyal to the Yiga.
That mentality he has is incredibly important when looking at the cutscene revealing his backstory. His actions, his motives, and his worldview all seem to lean into the fact of him being an ex Sheikah, even acknowledging that "Gannon is a force not to be trifled with" (paraphrased quote.) He sees Gannon as a terrifying figure, yet still follows the clan.
What we see in the footage directly conflicts that. If he were taken in as a child, why would he have such a complex view of Gannon? Not only that, but just looking at the geography of the map, he looks to be either in Tanagar, or gerudo, neither of which being places that a child could easily access, one being swamped with monsters, the other being barren. No Hylians live in either places, and the Sheikah even further. The closest would be the Gerudo, and I highly doubt that he's the first male gerudan in hundreds of years. It just doesn't make sense.
It also conflicts with Sooga being loyal to the Yiga, like I mentioned before. All the Yiga in the cutscene we're tormenting him, and even after Kohga showed him kindness, the Yiga still had their weapons drawn, posing themselves as a threat. Sooga would have been loyal to Kohga in that instant, as he knew that the others weren't safe. He is loyal to the Yiga, and by extension, Kohga. Not the other way around. He is a bodyguard, so of course he usually stays near Kohga, however we see him actively go out and lead the Yiga shoulders by himself.
3: overview.
In conclusion, his backstory fucking sucks. It turns the relationship between Kohga and Sooga into queerbait, and completely ruins Sooga's character. Its stupid. This might be jumbled and not very well thought out, but I'm currently fighting my off nighttime depression, sleep, and the stress hallucinations, so you can catch these fuckin hands.
It would make more sense if Kohga was a refugee Sheikah that swore allegiance to the Yiga. Just sayin. Oh, plus it would be more interesting.

I am once again thinking about the Yiga Clan.
Sooga’s backstory cutscene in Age  of Calamity has given me so many brainworms. Like I’m sure the majority of the Yiga are descendants of Sheikah who betrayed the royal  family to serve Ganon or whatever but from Sooga’s backstory we know that it isn’t JUST Sheikah in the Yiga Clan.
The Yiga, at the very least under master Kohga, took in children or perhaps anyone who was wandering the desert in need of help. Some of the Yiga were probably saved by Kohga, just like Sooga was. I love me some found family.
And it makes the fact that the Yiga will hunt you until the bitter end after Kohga dies all the more painful

So I'm gonna vagueblog loz opinions again
I saw a post last night that was about a lot of stuff but the thing that made me stop reading was the complaint that the Sheikah are "just a subset of Hylians with a different esthetic now"
And I just
There is a subset of loz fans that has been insisting for years that the Hylians and Sheikah are full on separate species
I have run into fanfic where they explicitly can't interbreed
I can almost guarantee someone at Nintendo finally caught on to that and decided to clear it up in canon the least obtrusive way possible
But also no the Sheikah are still their own people and their persecution under a Hylian king as the reason the Yiga clan split from the Sheikah does fucking come up talk to NPCs more
Over half the plot and backstory from botw gets summarized in side quests
