my favourite sexuality for comic book characters to be is "we made this other character canonically queer because of their relationship with them but for some reason they are still canonically straight"

like wade wilson? mostly canonically queer because of the period where he was married to cable. he was in a queer relationship, so we have to just make him canonically queer. (Yes I know it's not the only reason, I have read all his extremely camp early 00s comics, but lets be real they'd have kept insisting that was all just a joke if it wasn't for Cable and Deadpool).

cable? definitely straight. 100% straight. obviously cable is straight. his relationship with wade is only gay during the & Deadpool, in the Cable part of the book it's very straight. He stands next to a woman sometimes, that's how you can tell it's not gay.

Kitty has, finally, been allowed to come out, but for like a decade, Illyana was canon queer because she dated Kitty, but Kitty was definitely straight and would never date a woman, and no one at marvel thought there was anything weird about that.

Marvel has way more of these, mostly by virtue of having more queer characters and also chris clairmont (you can never understate the impact of chris clairmont in these matters) but Tim Drake and Kon Kent spring to mind from DC.

I think you could even make a solid argument that 616 Tony and Steve are that, given Tony is out now and Steve, somehow, still isn't.

anyway you don't really get these in any other medium, because they require multiple writers who all wildly disagree with one another to all write the same characters to happen, but i love them, and as much as I want Cable and Kon to come out, I kind of hope this never stops happening in comics, it's just never not funny.

oh of course anon <3<3<3 i've been in such a MountainDew mood recently anyway bhjbdsh you caught me at just the right time

Mountain always woke up with the sun, eyes opening just as the golden light began to paint the horizon over the lake, and going to sleep as it dipped below the treeline. In the summer this meant long days full of hard work, broken up by a midday nap on the wicker bench in his greenhouse. But now the days were starting to get shorter, the sun gracing the sky with its light for less and less time every day, and Mountain found himself sleeping in later and later each morning. He didn't really mind too much. The days were also starting to get colder, too, and so more time spent cuddled up under his layers and layers of blankets was very welcomed.

This morning his bed was extra warm due to a certain fire ghoul having taken up residence in it overnight. Mountain had the vaguest recollections of Dew scrambling his way under the blankets in the middle of the night, wriggling between Mountain's arms and tucking himself underneath his chin. Looking down now, he could see Dew still curled up on his chest, his lips parted ever so slightly in sleep, hands clutching his little blue mouse toy. Mountain squeezed him tighter to his chest, the weight on top of him incredibly comforting, and breathed in the scent of cinnamon. He reached a hand up and tucked a stray strand of hair that had fallen over the fire ghoul's peaceful face behind his ear, admiring just how beautiful Dew really was. He knows if he told him that normally, Dew's cheeks would turn redder than the crocosmia growing outside his greenhouse, an almost confused look crossing his pretty features that never fails to make Mountain's heart twinge with hurt. He truly hopes that whoever convinced him he wasn't worthy of compliments, of love, is burning in the deepest pits of hell. When he's regressed, though, Dew loves compliments, actively fishing for them at every opportunity. And all of the ghouls are more than happy to oblige him.

He squeezed him again and pressed a kiss in between his horns. A purr began to pick up in the smaller ghoul's chest, soft at first, barely indistinct from the sounds of his breathing, but it grew louder and louder as Dew began to open his eyes. Mountain kicked up his own purring in response as Dew looked up at him with a soft smile.

"Good morning, pretty kitty." Mountain rumbled, his voice still tough around the edges from sleep.

Dew chirped happily at the praise, rubbing his head against Mountain's chin. "Meowww- Meoooowwww-" The little ghoul's face scrunched up in frustration as he tried to say something.

"Oh, kitten-whiskers, Mousey is with Cirrus at the moment..." Mountain thought he was trying to ask where Rain was, the fire ghoul affectionately referring to him as Mousey (or Meowsey) in his kitty state. He recalled how the air ghoulette had dragged Rain off after dinner and knew that neither of them would want disturbing this morning.

However, Dew just shook his head resolutely and tried again, slower this time. "Meowww- Meeeooownty. Meownty." He trilled happily when he finally managed to get the word out and bumped his head against the earth ghoul's chin again.

Mountain couldn't speak for a moment. He was stunned to silence. Dew could only say very few words when regressed but mostly didn't bother to, using his plethora of ghoulish and cat sounds to convey what he wanted. The only real word he said consistently was "Meowsey" to refer to his little mouse toy or his mate. And now he had said Mountain's name as well... A kitty-fied version of it, sure, but honestly that made it all the more heartfelt. His tail began to wag under the covers, eyes tearing up with joy.

He didn't trust his voice not to break if he spoke. And so he just lay there, watching Dew shuffle down to rub his face against the fur on his chest, giggling and trilling at the feel of it against his cheek. Eventually, Dew yawned again and wrapped his arms around Mountain's waist, settling down against his chest and closing his eyes.

"Mrr mrow mrrr Meownty..." came a muffled mumble from behind the blue mouse in his mouth.

Mountain ran his hands through his long golden hair, scratching at the base of his horns every now and then to make Dew purr even louder. In his head he planned a full day of kitty cuddles, how he would take Dew down to the greenhouse and let the little ghoul cling onto his back like a backpack while he pottered about. But that would be much later in the day. He may wake up with the sun but that doesn't mean he gets out of bed immediately, too. He pressed another kiss into Dew's forehead.

"I love you too, petal."
