so when straight people ask me why I say I’m “queer” or “gay” instead of sharing my actual identity as a panromantic demisexual non-binary sapphic queer I just tell them “ok look, when you’re talking to someone who isn’t local and they ask you where you’re from and you either say the name of the largest city nearby or ‘town name, suburb of large nearby city’ so they can get some geographical context of where you’re located right, bc they’re probably not going to know the name of the little town you actually live in.”

but if you’re talking to a local you can say the name of your actual town bc they have a greater chance of knowing where/what that is.

ok well when I’m talking to a straight person I start with queer bc chances are they aren’t as familiar with the context of all the little towns in that big queer city and need gps (gay positioning system) to find me.

if I’m talking to another queer person and I say I live in a suburb of gay city in a town called panromantic on the demisexual side of the tracks which is in the county of queer and I live off the intersection of non-binary and sapphic, they’d probably be able to find me with little to no problems, make sense?

You’re not alone here! This took me wayyyy longer to get through than normal. I will say in hindsight— I’m not as annoyed w the book as I was reading it. I think the long plot development was at least well written. BUT THEY ARGUED THE ENTIRE TIME AND THATS NOT A SPOILER BC IT LITERALLY CARRIED OVER FROM THE LAST BOOK.

If u need some perspective here was my spoiler free review from when I finished it Nov 15th 2023:

SO FUCKING GOOD. ok will be spoiler free review. More just how I felt about her writing (pacing, character development, setting, imagery)

This book was long. The beginning started off strong but it faltered half way through. Like I can’t say I was ever bored? But it took me a brick to get through. Honestly I think she greatly improved with this book. I’m assuming she had Written both books by the time the first one got published. Usually when you’re doing long series that’s how it goes.

After the success of the first book I think she seriously went back and edited this book. Thank gods. The first book was great don’t get me wrong but it was definitely the first release. I think her and her team really upped it with this book. And I’m so happy for that because it means she was listening to feedback.

I was already writing the review in my brain when I had 5 hours left. I was going to complain about how it’s taking forever. But the ending was so worth it that I can’t even complain anymore. Like genuinely cannot complain. Only critique was that the ending was almost too fast? The pace significantly up and I’m sure I’m not alone when I say I probs read too fast through the ending. I feel like I missed details etc. it felt kinda chaotic. BUT it did not lose the high risk stakes. So while it was kinda jarring it kept me engaged.

I’m really really hoping that the next book is dual POV. I love Xadens chapters and I think the next book in the series will seriously require his pov.

As for characters. RY did a great job. She continually builds characters. Allows for drama but not like stupid pettiness. Everyone’s pretty reasonable. I did feel like V&X fought for too long. But I think that was d/t political plot developing slower.

Setting: honestly I thought she did a pretty good job describing everything. I think the new “town” that’s from the first book I just forget the name LOL. Will be described in even more depth next book. This book it’s pretty much just Xadens house. Bc I was a little confused about the size. I kinda imagined just one gigantic castle and fields

Currently reading and honestly not sure if it’s because they changed my work & sleep & read schedule (for this weeks Black Friday sale)… or if I’m just not as into this second book and I was the first one … but I’ve been reading it since release day (basically a week) and I haven’t even hit half way 😕 I finished the first book in like 2 days 🤷‍♀️

A little over 2 weeks ago I became a crisis counselor for one of the hot lines. I haven’t even told everyone in my life because of the reaction I got from some of my most non judgmental trusted people. Which was a cheerful yet nervous approach. About how wonderful it is but concerns about it weighing on my own mental health. It was frustrating for all the first comments to “but mental health!” Warning me advising me like I am the type of person to not think things over 100x. I know it’s human nature. But I’m like have I ever made a commitment this large to anything I hadn’t seriously ridiculously over the top thought about? I’m telling you to inform you. Not for approval. For advice.

ANYWAYS SINCE I AM NOW A LEVEL 3 COUNSELOR (20+ convos ~12 hours)

Here is most impactful thing I’ve noticed. Besides all the beautiful wonderful things I’ve learned

I now unironically use therapy jargon in my everyday speech. To the point I have to STOP myself.

Friend steps away from the phone when you’re texting? “Hey it seems as though you’ve stepped away from your phone, is now still a good time to chat”

Friend rants “it seems as though you’re feeling really frustrated. I can imagine how taxing that must be on you”

Friend asks for advise “what would your friend to do if this was their situation”

*friend blankly smacks me through the phone YOU ARE MY FRIEND*

Hello World

What a vibrant way to say hello. I simply am here to scream into the void and maybe if I’m lucky get a reverberation. After a long day of over thinking, over planning, and over existing, I decided to take my humble dyslexic ass to tumblr. Bc you know who would make a great blog? Now I’m asking I’m new here and I need to follow people.

Fun fact about me is that everyone asks me if I was a tumblr girly in 2011 and unfortunately I was not. But not due to lack of trying!!! I literally was just an idiot who listened to we the kings and parachute who was meant for tumblr but had the internet literacy of a wet rag.

But atlas I am here now. To reclaim my middle school destiny. While ignoring that fact like I have tried to get into tumblr at least 3x over the years and ended up on Reddit instead bc I thought that was easier to use
