Finished my first color theory project today! Started it about 3 weeks ago and holy crap, a LOT of hours went into this. 😅 but, I feel pretty good about it so it was worth the effort. Critiques tomorrow! Also working on a project in printmaking and working on some prints in photography. Those will be posted whenever. 18 hours this year is exhausting me. But I'm done with my color project, which is the only thing due tomorrow, so now I can rest. (Which is good because my body has ached all day for some reason and I'm exhausted) Tomorrow, one of my classes was cancelled so I'll have time for a bit of homework and some time to do whatever the heck I want. Which might be working on some personal artwork, reading, gaming... Or just being lazy. 😴

Today, while eating at Garfield's, I naturally snatched up some paper from another empty table and began drawing. After a while, a family comes and sits at the table across from us. There are a few younger girls there that were totally fan-girling over Jurassic World, and looking up dinosaur pics on one of their phones. There was really no point in me keeping the drawing, it would just go in a drawer, and I was afraid they would trash it if I left it, so I went over to the table and gave the girls my drawing. Told them I heard them talking about dinosaurs and even though it's a dragon, I thought they would like it. It lit up their faces and the whole family thought it was awesome. It's really inspiring to really see how art can bring so much happiness to some people. :) just a simple drawing at that. Also, I would like to point out that I thought it was awesome that they were geeking out over dinosaurs - usually girls their age are more concerned about Instagram likes and boys at school. Yay for Jurassic World and cool kids! :)

Yay! I finally finished it.

My first real attempt at doing a realistic animal digitally. Fur is so tedious... oh my gosh.

This was completely spontaneous. I was just sitting there, before I got my next commission, had some time to draw whatever I wanted, so I decided to try this again because it's actually been a couple years at least since I attempted anything like this. (Even those I never finished) I did humans since then, but animals are a lot different because, well, fur. xD I just saw this reference picture and got inspired. (oi39.tinypic.com/2lx4kw.jpg) I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. :3 But always room for improvement.

I chose Bramblestar, of course, because he is my favorite Warriors character. I've always admired the way he resisted his fathers wishes for him to brutally take over the forest, and decided to go with what he thought was right - which was stand up for his beliefs and be loyal to Firestar and his clan. And of course, he's a leader now!

So proud of my wittle brambley wambley. I added in the ear scar and the muzzle scar because I wanted him to appear more rough - he is a warrior, after all. And a courageous one at that. I wanted him to resemble his father, but give him a more softer, gentle look. Even though he is ambitious and strong, he is not nearly as brutal as his father.

I also wanted to represent Bramblestar in this style ever since I saw the Bramblestar's Storm cover. (s1381.photobucket.com/user/zSc…) I was indifferent about the way that Wayne McLoughlin depicted him as so soft and kitten looking. That's nothing like how I imagined Bramblestar to be. (Despite the cover, it's probably one of my favorite Warrior books. You know, besides that whole Jessy part... xD)

How to Write A Story (Without feeling like your work is awful and wanting to put your fist through a wall)

Your First Draft The “Word Puke” Stage

Don’t write anything more than plot. If you have an idea of a character, the most important thing is to just get it down. Don’t worry about errors. Don’t worry if it doesn’t make sense. The worse your first draft is, the better. A lot of people think that good writing comes from a good first draft that just gets improved. No. Good writing comes from a good idea that is written badly, and then fixed. The more lowly you think of your first draft, the more likely you’ll want to improve it.

I wouldn’t even call this a draft. I’d call it a word puke stage. Just get your thoughts on paper. Once they’re concrete, you can work with it.

Your Second Draft

Don’t worry about writing philosophical undertones to your plot. That comes next. For now, just make sure your story is coherent and has all the basic elements a story has (like fully developed characters, a beginning, middle and end) and all that that you didn’t do in your “work puke” stage. In this stage of your writing, just make sure there aren’t any errors or holes in your plot and don’t forget about adding in other elements that develop the character’s personality, actions and feelings as well as the plot!

Your Third Draft

Now you can write in deeper meanings and other philosophical undertones to your story. Fix up all the mistakes in your second draft, chop out plot holes, revise, and redo and your original idea! You should have a complete and clear plot. Your character at this point should be an “iceberg” character, meaning what’s shown in the story is only about 10-20% of what you actually know about them! The deeper you know your character, the more fun it is to write about them. And remember, the story is told through the character’s eyes, so make sure you really know them.

Your Final Draft(s)

Here’s where the serious editing takes place. This is where you add the finishing touches to your story. By this point, you should be confident in your writing and what your editing comes down to is just how you word your sentences to fit your character’s charisma and develop your plot. Every single word you use should contribute to character development or furthering the plot. Add in the finishing touches and boom! You’re done.
