✨Opinion time!✨

Y'all, the Tumblr profile badges are so cute! However, is it really worth 6 dollars USD? The moon one changes depending on the phase, and that's cool, but it's like paying 6 dollars for a tiny decoration. I wish it was much cheaper. Like, a dollar or something.

Other websites have badges you earn for zero real world currency that you get via challenges. Some Tumblr badges (for a limited time) are like that and that's cool. It's not often though, and that sucks.

I know, I shouldn't compare websites, but throughout history, weren't badges usually earned? As in doing a challenge to get it?

What if instead of paying for the zodiac badge, you unlock it by adding your zodiac in settings? Or by putting in your birthday? Wait, they already do that. Why can't it just be default then?

Perhaps for the writer badge, you submit a piece of writing that's about a paragraph or two long? You tag "Tumblr Writing Badge" in your tags, system checks it, and ta-da!

Or for music, simply upload a playlist, and tag?

I know there's a few flaws there. I know it sounds like what other websites do, but I'm sure people would like it more if people had more accessibility to the feature, instead of it being "buy the badge" only. Not everybody has money.

I love the Aquarius and the moon badge, but no way am I paying those prices for something so small that doesn't even do much. I want to earn it.

Heck, even the earn badges require you to spend money to do it!

If you love the badges, and you're able to buy them, go for it. I'm just saying my opinion.

Also, yo, fashion, music, art and photography are more expensive than writing? What gives? 😆 (Joking)

I know some people jump up and say "But it's supporting the website!"

It's Tumblr.

They're popular, but if you're gonna buy something, buy something that's functional. Something that serves more purpose than just decoration. Like the shop they had once upon a time that had gear. Accessories. Something like that.

Of course, again, it's up to you. This is all just my opinion. 🙂

Do y'all see those beads?! It's not easy to make beaded things for dolls so small!

Same can be said for the clothes! It's not easy to sew clothes so small. Especially the sleeves.

Their makeup looks fantastic too! I love it!

So I FINALLY finished my first custom doll. This doll gave me a LOT of trouble and I almost gave up. But I persisted and now she exists!!!!

There’s a lot I’d change or do differently in the future, but for now, I’m just happy to have completed a project 🥰

Some mods I made: her jacket was originally a shirt but I added a little pin and sewed sequins on the back. I also made her the little bead bracelet as well as the belt and necklace. I also added purple glitter to her shoes and two gems to her headphones.

Also in this closeup you can see how crazy messy her face is. Originally it was much cleaner but I had so many issues with her eyes that it got super messed up so I repainted part of it and added more glitter. In a way I think it was a good thing, because I was inspired by some dolls that had super grungy glitter makeup and I think I wasn’t brave enough to make her that messy. By accidentally roughing up her original faceup I was forced to add the grunge element I wanted. So it all worked out in the end! And I’m glad I learned how to add the eyes neatly in the end because now I know how to keep that from happening to the other shadow high custom I’m working on!!

I just got done watching the first 3 episodes and I love it! The crystals, the rainbows, it's so cool! I can't wait to see more when they come out!

I also absolutely love Poppy's new look! Bella's too!

It took me by surprise that they have songs in each episode sung by the characters. It's also really cool that each episode has a lesson to learn.

Honestly, I wish they had this stuff from the beginning. I know it wasn't developed up to that point, but can you imagine how interesting it'd be if this was forshadowed?

I do hope Shadow High makes some kind of comeback. I'm sure it's possible to do a dark crystal area of the world for them, right? One that's wrapped in moonlight with maybe even bioluminescence? Now that'd be stunning! 🤩

Yeah!

Sometimes witchcraft basics can be small. It's like a tiny sample of something. It can make a good starting point, but it can leave you feeling like something is missing. Like, whatever it is needs more context.

Diving deep into history with the occult and any other areas of interest can give a lot more information than one book can. You'd be surprised with the things you learn when you take a step back in time.

For a while, I've wanted to learn more about the Sabbats. When it comes to witchcraft basics books, they barely dip their toes in the water as to what they are. Luckily, with research, there's books out there that can help.

On a similar topic, I've also been deeply interested in past lives lately. It's like a puzzle in my mind. It's been fun trying to connect pieces together! My journey has taken me to finding old newspaper scans from over 100 years ago! Even documentaries on life back then really helped put some pieces together. It's fascinating!

The best way to learn about the past is researching and reading. You'd be surprised with what you can discover.

a piece of advice i received a long time ago that i took for granted:

history books > witchcraft books.

recently i've gotten into witchcraft + occultism history, and it is truly what has given me the best information about my craft yet. it is so fulfilling and informative to pick up a book on the history of occultism. not only do you learn about your craft, but you learn its roots, too. which i believe to be one of the most important parts. always ask WHY when you're about to do something. always know your history.

witchcraft books are perfectly fine and in no way, shape or form am i against them; i just find that history books on occultism, symbolism, mythology, and all that are just SOOO much more informative than anything a "witchcraft basics" book could ever give you.

find an author you like, maybe a specific time period or location in the world, or even a historical figure you like. and get READING.

knowledge is power. even in your craft.
