So to honor PRIDE for 2022, I am collecting feedback from fellow LGBTQ+ community members so I can share Q&A style interviews on my blog. Share the link with anyone and everyone. The Life & Death of Being a Human (on Wattpad) An original fiction told through poetry follows an unnamed narrator as they walk through their entire existence through 30 poems - from birth to death. Grow up, learn lessons, and feel the experience of life with our narrator. This reading experience is raw but subtle, and one that you'll never forget. "The Life & Death of Being a Human" was written as a series of poems utilizing Escapril 2022 prompts to celebrate National Poetry Writing Month doing what I love most - telling stories.

I’m starting to do read aloud style podcasts for my blog post. It’s a slow-going project, but I decided to personally narrate this one this time because the voice of the narrator needs a raw, real voice.

We’ve all experienced apathy before, whether it’s like the relationship in this story and how it affected the narrator, or if it was because of an event or trauma that happened. I think everyone can relate in some way or another, and I hope that makes it easier to understand and enjoy as a listener and reader.

I recently started designed custom greeting cards specifically on mental and emotional health topics. I have 4 out of 10 designs already available for purchase, with other topics such as body image, rejection, internal pressure, and more coming by the end of 2020.

Holidays are a rare treat for the always bustling, and always beloved, Princess Bubblegum. When you tell her that she looks great in her ugly sweater and thick jeans, she reminds you -  “Please call me Bonnibel. We’re on vacation…”

She stares at you for a moment, waiting to see if it takes this time. Sometimes it is really impossible to believe that Princess Bubblegum, no - Bonnibel - planned this weekend getaway trip for just the two of you. She almost never takes a break from her work, and when she does she usually goes alone. Even though you’ve been dating for the greater part of the last year, she values her independence greatly.

Which - dating Bonnibel has been unique in a list of ways longer than her list of “to do” items. Nobody is allowed to know about your relationship, except Marceline, because people get jealous and act weird when she starts dating someone. When you are in the kingdom, you have to call her Princess Bubblegum because the Banana Guards always forget her first name, so they get frustrated and confused. You can’t pay her compliments about her scientific work because that’s too complex for the candy citizens, and because she likes the privacy that comes with most people not understanding. And then that specific topic - privacy - ugh…

Bonnibel expects her privacy honored and respected at all costs.

That’s why this holiday trip is so special and magical! You are finally far enough away in a quiet enough place to enjoy a weekend alone with her. For the next three days she’s not a princess - she’s just your girlfriend. Your beautiful, smart, and patient girlfriend. In fact, her patience is what drew you to her in the first place. 

When you showed up in Ooo, it was the shock of a lifetime. Her initial interest in you was one of scientific curiosity, but the longer she studied you and the more comfortable she felt in your company, the easier it was for those feelings of attraction to grow. By the time she first called you her girlfriend, her interest in you was less about understanding the ‘how’ and the ‘why’ and more about the ‘who’ and ‘what’ of you as a person.

“I’m sorry,” you mutter under your breath, fiddling with the Polaroid camera. When you showed up in Ooo, you showed up with only a backpack. In it was a water bottle with your initials, a Polaroid camera and tons of film, and a beanie. A handknit beanie that Bonnibel is now wearing while pulling her gloves over her hands. A Polaroid camera that you use to take a picture of her standing there looking at you with kind eyes.

She’s not smiling in the picture, but she’s smiling now. She reaches her hand out to you to touch your cheek. “What was it that you said you were going to do with our pictures? A book?”

You nod your head. “A scrapbook. It’s a blank book that you fill with pictures so that you can look back on your favorite memories. So you don’t have to make a picture with your mind. Way better than a plain photo album because you can make it decorative.”

Bonnibel nods her head, rubbing her thumb against your cheek. It is softer than you recall. Maybe she’s softer when she’s not working. You wouldn’t know since this is your first vacation together. “I love that. And you’re going to keep taking pictures the whole time, right?”

Placing your hand over hers, you really take in the softness of her touch. Everything about her is so welcoming and sincere. Nobody cares like she does, and you know that nobody can love like she does either. It’s not always easy being in such a restrictive relationship but these moments makes it absolutely worth it. “Yes,” you promise her. “I’ll take pictures all weekend.”

“Good, ‘cause we’re about to go skiing!” she whoops joyfully. She bursts out of the room and stars heading down the lobby. You fear missing out on another special moment, a glimpse at Bonnibel with all of her guards let down, so you chase after her with your Polaroid camera pulled up and ready to go.

You meant what you said - you’ll take pictures all weekend. You don’t want to forget one single minute of this holiday trip.

Fic authors deserve more credit.

Story time: I started a book about 23 hours ago and just finished it. Also in that time I slept for 10 hours, spent time with family, was at work, etc. Anyway, I enjoyed the book (Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda). But it felt like it flew by, so after I finished I looked up the word count because what are pages? Pages are meaningless. I only function in word counts anymore.

The estimate I found was 58,580. My immediate reaction was “oh, that’s why. That’s nothing!” But what a shitty response. Because no. That’s not nothing. That’s a whole. Damn. Book. An entire novel! And Fic authors regularly bust out 30k, 50k, 100k, 150k words. AND THEY DO IT FOR FREE. WHILE WORKING AND LIVING THEIR LIVES.

So anyway, thank your favorite fic author today because they deserve it. Because they’re amazing. They’re the MVPs.

Which Tag is the Right One?

This is a post masquerading as a “master post” of the most popular and most common tags that you can use to maximize the exposure that your fanfiction will have to your potential audience. While most of us don’t write fanfiction for recognition, there’s a certain level of validation that comes from getting feedback and view counts. So I’ve broken the most popular tags into four major categories: Genre Tags, General Tags, Alternate Universe Tags, and Romance Tags. You can see those lists below. I also want to share a **PRO-TIP** with you. Most platforms where you would post and share your social media limit the number of searchable tags. It is usually the first 3-6 tags you list, and then everything else is kind of “extra.” In some ways, those PHRASES can be searched, but you want at least your first 3-6 phrases to be easily searchable for maximum exposure. This is a business tactic, too, of many businesspeople and social media influencers. It is called search engine optimization, or SEO. This will be good practice for you in general as you promote anything you do or care about in your life.

So, I recommended starting in the first category and move down the list. 

>If you are not writing an Alternate Universe or Romance fanfiction, my recommended count is 1 from the Genre Category and 2-4 from the General Tags. 

>For an Alternate Universe fanfiction story, adjust your numbers to be 1 from Genre, 2-3 from General Tags, and 1 from the Alternate Universe list. 

>If you’re writing a Romance piece, I recommend using 1 Genre, 1-2 General tags, and 2-3 Romance tags.

>If you are writing an Alternative Universe Romance, then I recommend 1 Genre tag, 1 General Tag, 1 Alternate Universe Tag, and 2 Romance tags.
