My #topnine this year 😊 Though the posts I've made on this account may not reflect this very much, (i.e, lots of sketch posts and work in prog posts this year 😅), I feel like 2019 has been a really good year of growth for me and my art. A lot of that is in thanks to the really awesome people I get work with. They inspire me all the time, they are super encouraging, and have taught me so much, even just by example. And the other part has come from me being more understanding of myself, and more patient with my work. I feel like I used to discourage myself very quickly and A LOT more often. I'd let my impatience get the better of me and trick myself into thinking that my work wasn't improving as fast as it could be. But I feel like I've gotten much better at just being patient about it by being able to continue to look at my work with a very critical eye and see what I need to improve upon, while understanding that seeing something I want to get better at is an awesome opportunity to grow! I've been watching an anime called Sound! Euphonium, and WHOO boy it's making me relive my band kid days hardcore. Super good anime, gorgeous animation and awesome music. Today marks a full year since my first day on the Minecraft Earth team, and I just wanted to take a second and talk about how amazing it's been. TLDR, I'm in total with love with my job and my coworkers and the work I get to do and the project I get to work on, and I feel extremely lucky to be here. I may only be on contract, but I wouldn't trade this year or this job for the world (and if I get the choice to fight to keep it, you better freaking believe I'ma fight hard!!!). . In school, and while I was applying for jobs, I had heard so many horror stories of artists first industry jobs and how awful some of them could be and how in some places they were overworked, or the overall environment was bad and people were awful and so on. So with every job I applied for, I kept that in the back of my mind. That I might have a rough start with what ever I landed. . But then I got a call from a recruiter about a job with Minecraft, I excitedly applied and luckily landed an art test. I stayed home instead of going on a camping trip I had planned I to buckle down and focus and try to put my best foot forward. I submitted the test, and the same day, I got a call for an interview. I did the interview a few days later with my boss and coworkers who would later become some of my favorite people. They thankfully offered me the job, and the rest is history. I came in on my first day and everyone was super nice, we went out for lunch, and after a couple days of setting up I got rolling on work. And I can say with ease that I feel like I've been living in a dream ever since. It has been complete the opposite of the horror stories of other jobs I've heard about. I love the work I get to do, my coworkers are super kind, really funny and always helpful. The project we're working on is really, really cool and even cooler, it will be and has been played by a crazy amount of people! I've already seen fan art of some the mobs I've made and helped create. I've learned a ton and have grown so much as an artist, all thanks to awesome environment and people I'm surrounded by at work. Been feeling some yucky feelings lately, mainly just in the past couple of months... Stemming from a few different sources. Whenever I get mad, or frustrated or sad, I tend to clam up and close my self off from the people close to me and just everything in general. Mainly because I feel like I get buried underneath feelings that I can't put words to or am afraid to try and put words to incase it makes no sense to others. Every once in a while I fall into mental pits like this. But there has luckily always been a rope there for me to climb out, and even if there isn't a rope, I claw my way out anyway and eventually. Last night Jacques and I stayed in, ate pizza, watched very relatable show, and went to bed.. and honestly it really helped me feel better. He's usually the rope that helps me out of the pits, and I couldn't be more greatful for it.
