Saw this reblog and had to take the chance to talk about this cuz am a yapper and I can litrly talk about childe and chilumi for hours on end

[Also just in case, a lot of Fontaine AQ spoilers ahead!!! And also Inazuma AQ spoilers]

This (childe entrusting his vision with the Traveler) is exactly what had me screaming like a deflated balloon cuz AAAAA

I loved this about Fontaine sm cuz it had those moments with implications on the Traveler and Childe's relationship, how much closer they'd gotten since the Liyue arc

Friends mayhaps?

Their interactions with him when they run into each other in the city just shows that.

I know that it was Paimon saying things like

"we know him a little too well," or "he's a friend of ours,"

(don't quote me litrly I just remember it being something along these lines)

But I've long since made peace with the idea that most of the time, Paimon speaks for both of herself and the Traveler. This is my way of coping with the fact that Traveler doesn't get much lines and doesn't get to speak a lot lol. Hoyoverse please let Traveler talk more I love them so much let them be their own person plsplspls

But also!! Traveler litrly gets the option to say

"well, Childe is our friend."

(I didn't even 2nd guess the choice lol I saw this one and immediately went for it)

And also

"We sure seem to have run into a lot of friends today"

(You can quote me on those lol i was losing my shit and have them engraved in memory and heart)

So, they do view him as a friend.

Traveler is still obviously reluctant to trusting him, understandably so, but it's more obvious that they've come to care for him. This is kinda in the same light of how Traveler (& Paimon) interact with Lyney and Lynette after learning of their association with the fatui. Like they still wanted to help them, they still cared for them, and in the Fortress it's obvious they were worried when Lyney got worried about his siblings and all. But it's also obvious the Traveler doesn't trust him/them (again, understandably so)

But despite it all, they do view Childe as a friend and care for his well-being. They still want to help him and even go out of their way to do so they litrly went to jail to look into his disappearance and find him

I mean, just look at the smile on their face watching him walk away are you kidding me

Childe

Okay and now on Childe's end. He litrly sees the Traveler and kicks off by telling them about going Ice fishing w his siblings and am so soft aaaa like it's just so casual and sweet and I just wanna see him w Teucer and Tonia🥹🖤 and him telling the Traveler about that of all things as soon as he sees them is just so sweet I love him sm

He was just happy to run into them and wanted to talk about sweet nothings aaaaa

I think Childe also views the Traveler as a friend, and is probably less wary of them (if only because he has less reason to than the Traveler has reason to distrust him, given that he's the one on the arguably bad side, while the Traveler simply keeps running into the fatui and being on the opposite end and is more or less an inconvenience for the plans, maybe a threat, but it doesn't collide with Childe's own morals and standing, so he has no reason to neither trust or distrust the Traveler, no reason to feel betrayed by them and hence, no reason to be as wary as they are of him).

And so, he's more casual with the Traveler, and given how he told them a bit about his Abyss dive, he also obviously feels close to them in some degree.

He also calls them a friend

"Haha! Long story short, I've been in Fontaine for some time now, and honestly, things have been pretty boring.

But it seems that fate brought our paths together today. Not only will I have some good friends here now, but ones who always seem to find trouble."

Unless the Traveler and Childe throw that word meaninglessly around, then it's pretty solidified that they each consider the other as a friend of some sorts regardless of everything else.

The Abyss

ALSO the fact that he mentions a few things, no matter how little sense it made to any of us, about his (mis)adventure into the abyss? What Skirk told him there

("Because I had awakened "it," and traces of "it" remained on me. She said that all my combat training wiuld be useful in the future.")

Knowing how he speaks of that time to no one, him mentioning it willingly and of his own accord made me scream and die cuz omg

"But he would never speak to anyone about that critical, fateful encounter of his..."

"No one knew what happened within that darkness during those three months, nor would Ajax ever speak of this to anyone."

AND YET, he did. He tells the Traveler, even if just a bit, about his time there.

I need to rewatch that bit of the quest where he talks about the Abyss and Skirk to think a bit more about what Skirk told him and the implications of it lol

Also headsup I'm still not finished with Fontain AQ lol am still in the bit in the Fortress running around treasure-hunting for Childe's whereabouts lmao so idk if this gets touched upon in the laterer bits of the quest or if it's something that'll come back later in the game.

For now my two cents on it is that it reminds me of some lines about Childe and the Abyss

Skirk mentioning he had awakened "it", that traces of "it" remained in him

Also this

"Or perhaps one should say that this dark realm had sensed the burning ambition in this boy's heart."

The endless connections and similarities he seems to have with Abyss heralds (outfits and fighting styles), his weapons (similar to those we find lying around in Ekanomiya)

It's got something of a "you shouldn't be scared of what's in the Abyss, you should fear what crawls out of it" vibe. In this case, what crawled out being something lingering within Childe after his presence awakened it.

Entrusting the vision

AND THEN there's the whole entrusting the Traveler with his vision thing PHEW

Most vision holders value their vision a lot, it being, per definition, a recognition of their determination and dreams from one of the gods.

And while we don't know the story of Childe's vision yet (whether it has negative connotations Kaeya am looking at you my heart hurts. Like there's that theory that Childe got his while in the abyss, or just anything of the like leaving an overal unpleasant feeling to having gained a vision, making it kind of a bittersweet thing)

But either way i know this guy def values it, at least to some degree, since it grants him strength and/or is a literal recognition of his ambitions

So I'd think he at least cares about it, even if in a kinda different way than most other vision holders

I keep saying most vision holders since, again, some of them got it during a darker moment or event so it's more of a bittersweet thing for them, they can't help associating those darker emotions or experiences with their vision. But for a good number of the ones we know the stories of, it only marked a moment of great determination and ambition and thus only holds positive connotations for them)

Vision-holding and Visions

Now the whole bit about Traveler getting to see/dream of some bits of Childe's experiences in the fortress is so intresting to me.

My Traveler and Childe's friendship supporting side was in awe cuz this also just adds to the whole them being much closer now thing

My dumbass trying to understand game lore and theories was busting her braincells trying to think of the implications of this.

I mean it's a bit obvious that the vision is strongly connected to their holder given that it's per definition bestowed to them. That they are the only ones who can use it etc

But it's intresting to see it connected to their holder beyond them using it. Like the fact that it still connects to their consciousness even when they don't have it on them.

This had me thinking a bit more about visions in general. Just how exactly do they work and to which extent their connection with their holders goes.

Like Kazuha and Tomo. I'll never get over the fact that he, even if for just a moment, wielded both anemo and electro vision, being the only one to have done so to date (at least as far as I know lol am bad at keeping up w intricate lore)

Idk if there are any theories or speculations on that, but I like to think that it's because in that moment that he jumped to block the shogun's sword attack, his will matched the one that earned Tomo his own vision, both in determination and in strength, quite litrly being in his shoes for that moment, and thus, Kazuha was able to use it.

"There will always be those who dare to brave the lightning's glow."

I get goosebumps every time I remember that AAAAA okay this will turn to me rambling about Kazuha I'll stop here

All of this to say that it's very fascinating to think about visions and their connection to their holders, and especially their connection to their holders' vision and determination. To think that Kazuha was able to use Tomo's vision because their wills lined up, and to think the Traveler was able to see into fragments of Childe's days even when he was away from his vision (its physical form, anyway). I just want to learn more about that.

Also, this might be a far stretch, but given how I think Kazuha was able to tap into Tomo's vision due to such strong determination, will, emotion, you name it, both to the holder of the vision as well as to said holder's own vision (aka their determination/ideals/goals etc), then I can only assume the Traveler cares for Childe to some strong degree to be able to tap into his vision and see into the memories like that.

(Or at least, we haven't seen or heard of something similar happening, being that vision holders don't easily take their vision off and toss it to their frenemy so casually asking them to keep it with them for a while, so who's to say really. I like my vision (hah! Pun) of why it happened tho so am sticking with it until the game says otherwise lol)

That isn't to say the two instances are similar lol I couldn't find them any more different. That of Kazuha holds so much weight to it I just wanna explode every time I think about it

I just think the instance of the Traveler with Childe's vision, when thought of in a close light to that of Kazuha's 2-vision-wielding, gives a bit of an insight about the vision and its holder, just how deep the connection between them runs, and also shows how those who care for said holder might be granted glimpses of that holder's mind and/or strength (these being Traveler dreaming of Childe and Kazuha wielding electro respectively)

I hope am making sense??? Idk am kinda sick so this is just me brainvomitting some incoherent thoughts and hoping something clicks, prompted by a rb of chilumi kissing akfjwjfjwkfk

Basically despite everything, whether in platonic light or romantic one, am convinced the Traveler and Childe grew so close and came to care for each other in those small ways, while also being aware of their differences and opposition. And the act of Childe entrusting his vision with the Traveler just shows that, show how much he trusts them, and how much the Traveler in turn have given him enough reason to (or at the very least, haven't given him a reason not to)
