Ramon had a cute idea for the Huevitos (members of Fit's community) to fill the #ramonbday tag with art and kind messages so he can show them to Fit for his birthday (February 1st), so here's my contribution! Cultural Practices: Lion-Turtle Chant

The Lion Turtle’s Chant is inspired by a real Chinese Pure Land Buddhist chant known as Nianfo (念佛) in Mandarin. The original chant goes:

Nāmó Āmítuófó (南無阿彌陀佛) / Bow before the Buddha of Immeasurable Light

The Lion Turtle’s Chant modifies this slightly to:

Nāmó Āmítuófó Shī​dì (南無阿彌陀佛师弟) / Bow before the Buddha of Immeasurable Light’s Disciple

Which is an absolutely fascinating addition to me. Amitabha, the Buddha of Immeasurable Light, is an enlightened being who possesses pure perception and freedom from worldly attachments. By having the chant state that respect must be paid to the disciple, it acknowledges Aang’s imperfections despite his good heart and grand status as Avatar. It’s shown explicitly in the show, after all, that Aang is very much incapable of letting go of all his attachments.

Though I also wonder if, by definition, all Avatars are really just permanent disciples of enlightenment. After all, Yangchen even says:

Many great and wise Air Nomads have detached themselves and achieved spiritual enlightenment, but the Avatar can never do it. Because your sole duty is to the world. Here is my wisdom for you: Selfless duty calls you to sacrifice your own spiritual needs and do whatever it takes to protect the world.

i just read this lovely article from our soon to be darlings and i’m going absolutely FERAL. so, here are my predictions for sutton lovett and aaron sweeney and how they’ll interact.

i honestly think they’re going to turn up the romance and sexiness even more than josh and annaleigh did because it was so well recieved. it makes the show both endlessly more funny and more tragic. josh and annaleigh certainly more than dipped their toes into the relationship between nellie and sweeney, but i think aaron and sutton are really gonna lean into it completely.

i see sutton’s lovett being very comforting and calming to sweeney, and i see aaron’s sweeney letting himself be comforted by her. i feel like sutton is gonna be REALLY silly and eccentric but at the same time so painfully and unconditionally loving/affectionate.

and i feel like aaron will really lean into the bond they share as two lonely people. he will trust her completely with his broken heart and his crimes and his body and the most vulnerable parts of him.

i feel like there’s gonna be so much physical affection and touch. i just know their little scene after by the sea is gonna go so hard. i have a feeling aaron might even really kiss her. i just know there’s gonna be so much love between them and i am SO excited. i cant wait to see the beautiful things they do with these roles❣️

Exile by Taylor Swift is such a Maiko-coded song. Like, it doesn't get more perfect. Literally every single line of that song fits with Maiko perfectly ugh!!!

The way I'm feeling right now has no solution, no relief. It's like how you want to crush cute things cause there really isn't any response that would deal with the stimulus called cuteness? I'm going crazy because I can't express how much I love this song and I love maiko and sometimes words aren't necessary. Sometimes it's just the vibes and exile is so maiko in vibes—I feel like I've understood a lot of things I feel like throwing up.

PJO SPOILERS!!!!!!

I'm only making one post tonight because I gotta be up in a few hours but WOW!!!!! What a finale episode!!!!! It was everything I loved from the book and more. Also that scene with Percy and Poseidon!? I actually got teared up. You could just SEE the pain and grief in Poseidon's eyes over the fact that he couldn't be with Percy and Sally and it was so heartbreaking!!!

Also ADORE that Poseidon saved Percy from Zeus. Not only from the bolt, but by surrendering. We all know how prideful the gods are, especially Big 3 gods, so the fact that Poseidon put Percy FIRST over his pride makes my heart melt. I always believed that as far as the Greek gods go in PJO, Poseidon was one of the better and more genuinely caring parents, and the show is just proving me right 1000%. Its also a good moment because it demonstrates to Percy that the gods aren't all black and white; they're not all terrible parents by choice. In my opinion, this moment gives Percy's motivation on fighting FOR the gods more weight and grounding. Because he sees that his dad DOES care about him. We all say Percy could've EASILY turned out like Luke, but because Percy sees that his dad does care about him, and that some gods do care about their kids, it allows him to see that not all the gods are completely terrible for the sake of being terrible. I still love his motivation in the books where he fights for the sake of his friends, but I like that the show is letting Percy see too that the gods, like humans, are multiple layered and that they have their reasons. This is not me trying to justify all the gods' actions btw, but I do think that there are SOME gods at least that aren't completely terrible for no reason like Zeus and Ares in PJO, and Poseidon protecting Percy is a great show of that and adds to Percy's decision to defend the gods instead of fighting against them, even though he and Luke are a lot alike with similar feelings of abandonment and resentment.

Also, I wonder how the TV only viewers are doing right now after Luke's betrayal. From what I heard, TV viewers loved Luke, so I can only imagine how WRECKED they must be feeling. I feel devastated, and I saw it coming as a book reader. That's how great Luke's actor was, and how great the show portrayed Luke as a older brother figure to Percy.

Overall, AMAZING final. I'll try to express more thoughts tomorrow.

after sitting on the finale for a bit i can say that season was some musical theater genius and the next seasons could literally shit the bed and we will still always have this beautiful little eight episode chestnut. Would watch the broadway show
